(00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Uh, you know what,
I want to know, where the hell did you get
somebody saying the font not the font? How? I never
thought about that until now, going where'd you get somebody
actually saying that? I mean, yeah, you hired child actors
(00:44):
like technology and stuff? Or you yelling in and start
playing around with some sound editing, or or are our
sound editor and creative director? Veto brought his daughter in
and and and that's her voice pass Well, that could
be the way it goes. I don't know. It might
have been Zoe. Maybe they contract and contracted her to
(01:05):
do some work. Oh, I think they tell him the scenes.
I think no, I don't think they would. They're not
gonna because I think she Yeah, I think she wanted
to do it independently that way you didn't try to
steal the cut. Okay, I saw. Maybe that's what it is,
and she's gonna wind up saving all this money and
then keeping it at the end of at the okay,
and then I'm then then I'm out of Maybe that's
how she was able to afford that butter beer. Okay,
(01:27):
all right, I think about it was, you know, money earned. Okay,
you might be right about that. Still enjoying the butter
beer that she brought me a half hour ago. This
is I can't believe it last and a half hour.
I tried to well, it's not really beer. It's butter
butter beer. It's it's it's well because there's no there's
no alcohol like b E A R. But No, that
(01:49):
would be bear butter bears. There would be there would
be a dome over the butter beer if it was,
like tell you what, I would like to now make
that a thing at restaurants where when they bring you
your and you also get a butter bear butter it's
butter bear. Uh So, yes, I'm enjoying this butter and
the foam staid. Really, I could just drink a whole
(02:11):
glass of the phone. I really could. I could drink
an entire glass of the phone. And that's it level
stuff right there. The excitement. I mean, you're like a
little kid with your butter bear I am. I mean,
are you surprised they brought you something? Uh? Yeah, because
I didn't know. I really didn't know until I saw
Zoe and Jade coming. I'm like, oh my, oh my god,
(02:32):
my daughter's here, Oh my god. That because they got
into the building. Well no, Frostberg led him in. I
didn't you want me to tell you or did you
want to be surpris it was a kid? It was awesome.
It was a surprise they came. It was fantastic. I said,
how did I said to Zoe when I'm walking to that,
I said, how did you get in? She goes, Justin,
let us in? I go, remember what you looked like?
And she goes, yeah. I guess. I'm like, okay, maybe
(02:53):
what did you just see two kids knocking on the door?
Justin and just said, uh yeah, come on and sure, yeah,
pretty much? Hey pretty much security here. Boy, we are
we are we are really next level. I mean you
are and you are not getting this is Fort Knox.
You are not getting in here happening, not happening unless
you're gonna bring in butter beer or a sandwich and
(03:14):
you got a shot Twitter and out about a fresca
Mike and swollen down the Jason Smith Show with my
best friend Mike Harmon. Uh So today something happened that
I can't believe actually happened. As part of our continuing
coverage of the first week of training, campus teams are reporting.
By the end of this week, thirty one of thirty
(03:37):
two teams, we'll have reported. We got the Hall of
Fame game next Thursday. We've made it to another football season.
Bill Belichick talked about the off season and improvement of
Mac Jones. Mac Jones, who of course was the greatest
quarterback in the history of the NFL last year drafted
and and took over and had a rookie season that
may have been one of the top five greatest seasons
(03:59):
in history. The guy is Tom Brady. All these things. Uh,
you usually could count on Bill Belichick to tamp things
down and say, listen, listen, listen. He was good. But
but when he was asked today about Mac Jones and
the difference in him from year one to year two,
listen to Bill Belichick. Yeah, I think Max's done a
great job. He's worked extremely hard, He's got a tremendous
(04:20):
work ethic in all areas, you know, I think there's
a dramatic improvement. I think everyone recognizes how well he
prepares and not much further along he was than he
was a year ago. First of all, he never said
as many good things about Tom Brady and the twenty
years Brady actually played for him. But here's mac Jones
after an okay year one and suddenly listen to how
(04:44):
clear and concise and excited Belichick is to talk about.
He's never excited to talk to the press about anything,
but oh Mac Jones, listen to how excited I am?
What Doohn Brown? One more time? Let's play one more time? Yeah,
I think Max done a great job. He's worked extremely hard.
Listen to enunciates in all areas, you know. I think
there's a dramatic improvement energy. This is how well he
(05:07):
prepares and how much further along he was than he was,
using all these great words that he never used for
Tom Brady. Oh, Matt Jones is the greatest. Well, but
he's reinvigorated for a new run. He had a great
off season. Maybe watch some lacrosse games and walked, walked
the beaches, got out on his boat a little bit,
maybe fashioned himself a couple of new cutoff hoodies. I
(05:30):
don't know whatever it might be. Part of it might
be Tom Brady didn't need someone to pat him on
the back. And it's not an indictment of mac Jones.
It might just be reading the room of where a
lot of players either taking to the airwaves themselves or
getting their friends to pump them up every chance they
(05:52):
get high Tyreek Hill into a tongue of by law,
uh and so on, that maybe he feels like he
has to in this next iteration of his coaching life
be a little more uh well, that he's given the
flowers as opposed to look, there plenty of time to
grouse and and yell at him and film study, but
(06:12):
to start the season to say, hey, this guy is
doing everything we're asking of him, and we're feeling good
about where we're going. Kinder gentler, Bill Belichick, if only
for a day, It's okay, buddy, you know, look, look
a couple of things. Let's let's just let's let's let's
let's put our cards on the table for this story
like no, no, No, First things first, I think, first,
(06:33):
I'm gonna give you something you're gonna agree with me on,
and then I'm gonna give you something' gonna disagree agree.
I would like to just here once, when a coach
is asked about a quarterbacks progression from year one to
year two, hear a coach to say, oh, no, he's
about the same. Oh you'd actually he's regressed a little bit.
Can he's not. He's not. He's not nearly as good
(06:55):
as he was last year. He's kind of the same guy.
Because every quarterback from year into year two, he is
light years ahead of where he was last year. He's
way ahead compared to this time a year ago. What
he's able to do is much more than he could
at this time a year ago. You would think every
quarterback going from year one to year two is ready
(07:15):
to lead the team to the playoffs, because just by
going year one to year two, I'm gonna be great.
Just once, i'd like to hear head coach say, yeah, no,
last year it's probably better. This year not quite as good. Well,
I think we we didn't get those words explicitly, but
we kind of got that in what we were talking
about with the forty Niners last hour. They're just they're
just not talking about tray Link doesn't say anything about it. Well,
(07:38):
but they're saying a lot without saying it right. Hey,
Jimmy is gonna be going or whatever I mean meaning
we couldn't keep him around because if he's in the room,
we don't think that'll be good for tray Lance. That
was the unspoken part of a lot of the Uh, yeah,
Jimmy's not gonna practice, He's not gonna be around. Uh,
we're gonna find you know, there will be some other things.
(07:59):
So either he gets aided or he gets released, depending
on how the marketplace and health for other quarterbacks exists.
But you know, look every for baseball spring training and
for training camp in the NFL, and and even the
outright lies by some NBA players coming into camp. I
am in the best shape of my life. Oh yeah,
(08:21):
everybody's always spent my offseason getting my body, mind and
soul right for the next grind. I reviewed a lot
of film, recognize my mistakes and where we could have
been better as an offense or defense insert either here.
Uh And for the coaches, yes, it's the let's talk up,
(08:41):
our guys, let's push the expectations. What you canna say?
This guy's this guy is not really very good short
to intermediate. We're okay, but we we can't run a
pass play over fifteen yards. He just doesn't have to
get there. He can't throw a twenty yard out. That's
just not happening. I mean, you know, I don't don't
(09:01):
look for any of that extension in the playbook from
me or am I as yet to be unnamed coordinators
who may or may not be me. So yeah, it's
a lot of platitudes, a lot of excitement. And you know,
for mac Jones, he's getting the kid gloves to start camp,
which I know as a Jets fan and is a
(09:24):
guy that has watched Belichick from below for many many years. Uh,
you were hoping things were gonna even out, and now
he's in such a great place he can let his
true feelings out about his quarterback well now and now
here and well but here's the other part. Here's where
we're going to disagree about it, you jerk. You know, listen,
it's been one bleeping day. It's been it's been it's
(09:48):
been one bleeping day, and I'm already done with the
hey mac Jones is Tom Brady storyline that you know
this is going to ignite. We had to hear the
entire storyline last pre se and I was embarrassed for
every single NFL analyst and needed the beginning of this
season going. He's better than Brady is a rookie Brady.
First year Brady played, he won the bleep in Super Bowl,
(10:10):
was the second year in the league. He had like
no time. Oh mac Jones is so far and he
may be the best rookie corps. Everybody couldn't tend spend
enough time talking about how great they thought mac Jones.
And you know what Mac Jones is. Okay? Was he great? No,
But for a rookie quarterback, he wasn't bad, right, That's
what he was. The reason he wasn't bad is because
(10:31):
the other rookies were terrible. Trevor Lawrence was awful, Zack
Wilson was awful. A lot of the guys were really bad.
Mac Jones was okay. They won a game where they
loved mac Jones to throw the football three bleep in times.
But now here's Belichick again, and maybe he's doing this
just to get at me. Right, Hey, if I start
saying all these great platitudes about Mac Jones tomorrow, we're
(10:51):
gonna ignite that Mac Jones is Tom Brady storyline, and
that's gonna really piss off Jason Smith. So yeah, let's
do that. Damn. I mean maybe that was because now
we're gonna be overrun by it. And I'm already fatigued
that it's day one and I'm already done with the
all the Matt Jones is Tom Brady storylines. We're going
to get Mac Jones year one versus Tom Brady year one?
(11:14):
Where is he? What was he able to do well?
And and former teammates. Oh, when I see Mac Jones,
I see someone who's gonna be even better than Britt
may win eight or nine Super Bowls. And I'm embarrassed
for everybody, but mainly I'm just upset that now this
storyline is gonna take off again. It's gonna be Mac Jones,
Tom Brady Mac all throughout the preseason Welcome back Football.
(11:36):
And the only way that survives is if the Patriots
get off to a good start. So by the end
of September it may be a moot point and we
might be back to terse, low, guttural, emotionless Bill Belichick,
which is exactly what you would like as a Jets fan.
And certainly having to listen to sound bites and play
them on Fox Sports Radio every evening during this football season,
(11:59):
as will have you covered wall to wall as we
do each and every year. It's unfortunate, right, they wear
the same helmet, same team, same coach. Comparisons are gonna
be there, buddy, And they don't necessarily, they don't have
to be. They don't have to be well they do
in terms of all, right, is he gonna grow? And
you know, projections and we can do some cool charts
(12:20):
and whatever else on the whole. And I know this
is this is not new, It's something I've been espousing
for years. Can we find another standard? You know? This
is obviously their their patriots. Yes, the Brady Jones happened.
Things happen, But like in every other sport, could we
just push aside the guys that are the obvious greatest
of all time and just not use them in any
(12:41):
of the while this player hopes to have the career
of this game. Of course he does. It is the
greatest of all time. And trying to say that's the
standard he has to play. I'm done. But anything that
has anything to do with Brady and Belichick, you're gonna
lose your mind. And that's where at right now. No, No,
it's mac Jones and Tom Brady because I don't look,
(13:04):
I don't care. Look, Brady can win whatever he wants
to now, I don't care. He's been in Tampa for
a couple of years. I don't really kim Grab anymore. No,
I don't know anymore. I don't care if I've seen
the Patriots win, but Ned's and he's not, and he
just is not. He doesn't even know who's gonna call
him the plays. Mac Jones is so far So how
was mac Jones so far ahead of last year when
(13:26):
they don't even have an offensive coordinator? So apparently having
a beautiful collaborative effort having an OC brought him down
last year. That's why we're not having an OC. Having
an offensive coordinator was bad. But he's the guy that
got a head coaching job. No, no, no, it doesn't matter.
We're going without an ahead. No, the voice coming over
to transfer the play is gonna be like Charlie of
(13:48):
Charlie's Angels. Now we all knew it was the voice
of John ForSight, but you never saw him. Same thing here,
just a disembodied voice that's giving you the place. Be
sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show
with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven pm
Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio Whip.
(14:12):
Coming up, we'll tell you exactly how the Big Quarterback
Derby of the Summer is going to go. But gee, gee, okay,
I said big quarterback Derby. That's a quarterback Derby. Drew
Lock versus Gino. Smith is a quarterback Derby I like wearing,
just not the quarterback. But speaking of quarterback Derby's you
know what I looked at watching I'm not gonna ruin
(14:33):
anything with better call Saul last night, but do you
know what I did when I stopped and I said,
I wonder if they're really talking about a real season
in college football, Like that's how it went from Nebraska
and for Oklahoma State. And as soon as I mentioned
Brandon Weed and I said, oh you know, this is
this is how it went. Yeah, yeah, yeah, he broke
his thought. That's right, he broke his thumb. I forgot
about that, and I'm like, Okay, we're all right. And
(14:56):
I told Petras, how do you know that the word
I said, we're in because this is what they're talking about.
Taylor Martinez, who was a quarterback in Nebraska. He was
a really good quarterback but never really became the superstar
they thought he was gonna be. But uh, and I
didn't know if they were just talking in general terms,
but when they mentioned how they got a game against
Brandon Wheaton and Oklahoma State, It's like, oh, yeah, yeah,
because he busted his thumb, but he had to be
(15:17):
through like six touchdowns with a with a bad thumb,
and yeah, they're in the middle of I was so
excited about schedule and the week at it was. It
was next level, it was it was a fun episode
that was exciting. Uh. Now Burnett, man, I know when
I saw I said, I think that's Carol Burnett. My
wife goes Carson in the same Jeff Carson got those
(15:40):
three second round draft picks and he chumped right. Uh.
Jayson Tatum Wade in Tonight a little bit less than
an hour ago on the possibility of the Celtics getting
Kevin Durant. Quote, I played with Durant during the Olympics.
(16:00):
This is prior to the premiere of the Showtime documentary
Point Guards, which was aired earlier tonight. Obviously, he's a
great player, but that's not my decision. I love our team.
I love the guys that we got. We got two
new pieces, Malcolm Brogden, Danila Gallinari. I love our team.
I don't put that GM had on to make decisions.
(16:21):
So let's pars through what this means. With Jason Tatum
saying what it is, I love the guys that we've got.
The translation here is we're not getting Kevin Durant. We're
not giving up all those pieces. Were not trading Marcus
Smart and Jalen Brown and two rotational pieces and three
(16:43):
first round picks to go get Kevin Durant. We're not
doing it. So I can give the respect I need
to give Kevin Durant by saying he's a great player,
but I could also say we love the guys I
got because these are the guys that are gonna wind
up playing for me. There's no way the Celtics who
make these two moves in the off season of Brogden
and Gallinari, right, these are two pretty good moves. This
(17:04):
is a team that was this close to winning the
NBA title, and they added a couple of nice pieces.
Gallinari Is is more of an easy rotational guy that's
gonna hit some shots. But Brogden is a pretty good
player that's gonna be a really big player, big addition
to this team. So you have a team that's that
close that got better. Okay, they're not gonna break everything
up that they did just to go get Kevin Durant. Right,
(17:25):
the Celtics called, listen, we can trade one guy, Jalen Brown,
and then we'll give you a bunch of assets. Right,
we'll give you a bunch of first round picks there,
but we'll give you j We can replace Jalen brock Is. Obviously,
this is where Kevin Durant is gonna play. And we're
okay with that. But we can do that. But the
minute it got we want more. And that's when the Celtics,
i'm sure just said that's it. We're not doing this trade.
(17:46):
We're not going to trade four players after we we
made the team this offseason to do us very specific thing.
We're not just gonna blow that up to go get
Kevin Durant, and we feel we've improved to get to
the finals again and win the title. We brought in
two pretty good players, whether we're very excited about if
we could get k D and PLoP him in and
(18:07):
and trade away. Look, we we don't want to trade
Jalen Brown, but he's very good, but we don't need him.
If we have k D and we trade some first
round picks, yeah we'll do it. But now that it
came to be this big of a of a prize
so far, and this is what the Nets kind of want,
and this is why this is such a big deal
because now we're at least getting the kind of package
that the Nets want in return for Kevin Durant. Yeah,
(18:27):
the Celtics, I'm sure, said yeah, we're not doing this,
And the Nets aren't gonna come back and say, okay, okay, okay, wait,
we don't go anywhere. We'll take Jalen Brown a bunch
of first round picks. Now they're gonna they're gonna continue
to play this out to see if they can get
more from other teams. So I would think this trade
right now has got to be dead. And I don't
think the Celtics and the Nets are going to continue
on to be two trade partners, potentially for Durant. Yeah,
(18:48):
I've said it all along. I don't think Kevin Durant's
going anywhere. But with this particular deal, we watched as
the Celtics had rumors of in fighting and problems and
rotational issues under the for your head coach, and once
we got into January, remember they were my dark horse
team to rise up and at that time they were
(19:08):
sitting in the seven seed, uh and low and behold well,
they made me look like I might have known something
along the way. So thank you Celtics players and coaches
for having my back. But all these true, it would
be trade proposals. All that's been sourced out Jason, it's
Jalen Brown, it's Marcus Smart, it's Derek White, it's always guys.
(19:29):
Remember the Celtics had six players received Defensive Player of
the Year votes. Right, That's a big part of who
they are, Kevin and Kevin Durant. Would he be able
to come in and give you and match that energy?
Is he gonna be able to play enough games? All
of that and the minutes played and look at his history,
great player, but if you've got to give up multiple
(19:53):
UH parts to your rotation already as well as future picks,
and like I don't, I don't care draft picks because
if you're doing your job, those are late first round
guys that are at best seeing two minutes off the
bench each game eye and that's historical data, right, you
have to give them a contract, But most of the
(20:14):
time they're playing UH in your developmental process or they're
sitting at the end of the bench watching. So yeah,
I'm completely out on this. Jason Tatum gives you a
much stronger response than Jalen Brown did with his shaking
my head of yesterday to say I like the status quo.
Let's move forward. Be sure to catch live editions of
(20:35):
The Jason Smith Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten
pm Eastern seven pm Pacific. Today, again, as part of
the big week of everybody showing up a training camp
the eyes of the NFL World, we're on Carolina, where
Baker Mayfield and Sam Donald spoke for the first time
since they became teammates. Both of them will be engaged
(20:56):
in a quarterback derby this summer, and Sam darn Old
said today, hey man, everything is cool with me and
Baker and Baker cool. You know, I'm sure competing and
you know when things start rolling in training camp, you
know it's just gonna be fun. You know, it's gonna
We're gonna be able to compete and have fun with it.
But at the end of the day, you know, this
is a business, and um, we both take our craft
(21:17):
and what we do very seriously, so it's gonna be
very serious when that time comes to compete. But off
the field and all that stuff, and Baker are really cool.
We're really cool. May you remember when we were both
first round picks and you went first and I went
third and we were franchise guys and now we're just
hanging on. That was cool, man. Yeah, there's two keywords
to all of this. One is if you were having
(21:39):
a drinking game, to the word or some derivative of compete,
you are under the table. Second, the craft and not
about witches and and covens or anything. No, the craft
of playing quarterback, of learning football, of leading in a
(22:00):
locker room. They're very both dedicated to the craft. How
does that make you feel about your guy, Sam Donald? No,
it's the crab. Listen. I want to have a conversation.
It's like when musicians get together and go, yeah, let's
have a deep conversea what is your favorite word. Let's
have a deep conversation. What is your favorite curse word?
Hey listen, we listen. When you played that bridge? You
(22:21):
know what did you know? I took the guitar. What
I was able to do was tune it, and I
was able to get it to a point where I
could make that reverb sound that really just is a
unique sound. Hey, we're talking shop here. We're perfecting our craft. Uh. Look,
it's almost like a James Lipton kind of laid it
up for you there at let's talk about your craft.
(22:41):
Take to the field and you squeeze the big skin
for the first time on that day. What are the
emotions and the flow of thoughts through your brain. Look,
I'll tell you exactly how this is going to go, right,
exactly how this is going to go. It's gonna be
impossible for Baker Mayfield to win the quarterback job in
(23:05):
the preseason because you just don't do that anymore. The
preseason is not made for if it's a legit quarterback
competition for the number one guy to lose it because
Sam Donald Baker Mayfield are not going to play a
lot in the preseason. Starters are not gonna play. It
would if Sam Donald loses the job in the preseason,
he may as well retire because that's how bad it
(23:28):
would be for him to not be able to win
this job. Because he is coming in with a huge
advantage over Baker Mayfield, with the playbook that he knows
in the offense for another year, and his familiarity with
his teammates. He is way ahead of Baker Mayfield, who
is gonna be walking this week going Hi on Baker,
Hi on, Baker, Nice to meet you. He's coming from
a position of weakness. He needs time with the playbook,
(23:51):
to learn the players and to try to win the job.
So there's no way this season begins without Sam Donald
being at quarter back. He will open as a starting
quarterback because the preseason is not what it used to
be in the NFL where you would have guys winnings. No,
as long as it's a legit competition, Donald can't lose it.
Now that being said, the Panthers didn't go get Baker
(24:15):
Mayfield to sit behind Sam Donald. They didn't And as
long as Sam Donald shows that he's Sam Donald, Baker
Mayfield's gonna play. Donald needs to play lights out every
single week because he's gotta He's gotta keep back and
keep at bay the voices from Mayfield because the team
wants to see him take the job. The organization does,
(24:36):
the fans do, the media does. And we know Sam
Donald's not very good, so he's gonna falter at some
point early and Baker Mayfield will take over sometime by
week four to week six. Right, because you have the
extra game now is seventeen. You don't have to pull
the plug after two bad weeks, but it'll come sooner.
Whenever they feel Mayfield is up to date with the
(24:57):
playbook and has the chemistry with the players, they will
put Mayfield in. Or it could be as simple as
Donald's bad for two weeks. They Benjam at halftime of
the game, and Mayfield comes in and and puts a
lot of points on the board, and guess what, Mayfields
the quarterback. So that's how this is gonna go. It's
gonna be Donald wins it. They start the season with him.
By week four, week five, it's Baker Mayfield and he
(25:18):
has the job. The rest of the way. Yeah, I
would think that the return of McCaffrey, the upgrade on
the offensive line, and another year in system, all the
advantages you say for Donald that are there, plus those
factors being are a let's let's give him a legitimate
shot with a better unit in front of him, right
(25:38):
and around him, to give him every chance to succeed.
You come on out of the gate. You've got Cleveland.
Is your first game at home. Three of the first
four weeks, they're actually at home. UH, second week on
the road against Daniel Jones and the Giants, third week
home against Winston UH and the Saints, and then week
four a home date against Kyler Murray and those Arizona Cardinals.
(26:03):
So opportunity for Donald to show out early. Right, obviously,
re reupt d J. Moore. You've got some other weapons
perhaps that you can you can make some plays with.
But Baker Mayfield's there is the break glass in case
of emergency for Matt ruling his job right to say,
all right, we can now get this jump start. Maybe
(26:25):
he's got a couple of extra weeks that he learns
the playbook, he's got more rapport with the the others
and the desperation to salvage another season is there to
where he becomes, you know, the guy wearing the cape
coming in to be the superhero, uh and save the day.
So I think, uh, that that plays out perfectly that timeline. Yeah. Look,
(26:49):
if I thought for a second Donald could change things,
I would say, all right, But he can't. I mean,
at this point, we've how many times we've seen him,
we've seen him play. Even even the most staunches of
Sam Donald believers that to understand that, oh, maybe he
just wasn't really good when they drafted him, because he's
had a long time to show that. I get it.
Oh I got away from Adam Gates. Nope, still wasn't
(27:11):
very good. I see him. He's still making the same mistakes,
doesn't know what he sees, and he looks Downfield. He
misses open receivers all the time. He's ghosts. Not that
Mayfield is better, but Mayfield at least is put together
better games on a on a more consistent basis than
Sam Donald has. Not that Mayfield has been great, but
I've seen more. I've seen more flashes from Mayfield over
(27:32):
his career than I've seen from Sam Donald. Not to
be fair, and we we've got to be honest with
why be fair? This is sports talk radio. Well, because
I'm different, it's not getting me big bucks, but I'll
stick with the logic that's kept me in the seat
at least for another week. Uh. Is the the idea
that you know he's Baker Mayfield did always have the
(27:55):
much better compliment of players both supporting him offensively, uh
and guys supporting him with a pretty strong defense. So
he's he should look better based on that, even if
it was in Cleveland. Be sure to catch live editions
of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at
(28:15):

Up on Game? What is Up on Game? You asked,
along with my fellow pro bowler t J. Hudgman's otta
and Super Bowl champion. That's right, Plexico Birds. You can
(28:37):
only name a show with that type of talent on it.
Up on Game We're going to be sharing our real
life experiences loaded with teachable moments. Listen to Up on
Game with Me LaVar Arrington, t J hudgmans Otta and
Plexico Birds on the I Heart Radio app, Apple podcast
or wherever you get your podcast from. Mega millions, no winners.
(29:05):
Tonight it will be over a billion dollars. On Friday,
over one billion dollars. On Friday it was eight ten
million tonight eight hunder ten no winners. It'll be a
billion because well what, I don't know what I leave
(29:28):
or what I try. I would try to say, yeah,
but I might want I might want to buy a
sports team. I would no, no, no, I tried. I
tell Steve going, Hey, dude, can I buy in? You know?
I know you spent you know here, here's here's a billion,
here's yeah. But if I know, if that happened Friday,
I'd be on the next plane to New Jersey where
(29:49):
the National Sports Collector's Convention is going on. Harmon is
gonna go buy baseball cards with a billion dollars. I'd
be investing billion dollars. Let me see your teth I'd
actually be sending in a note to say, how do
I take full possession of the Andre the Giant Jockstrip.
Forget about this fractional ownership stuff. I'm gonna buy a
(30:10):
T two o six and burn it on YouTube, and
everybody's gonna watch what did he do with it? Toothpicks? Really,
that card was worth a million dollars yep, but you
know what, he didn't care. He's got a billion. So
get ready the next estimated jack pot between one point
(30:31):
oh two and one point oh five billion dollars on Friday.
About that? Get ready? How crazy would that be? Though?
My dad? You might just do it? You imagine it
for like thirty two seconds. Oh, I know. Pam likes it,
you know. And the thing is, my wife likes to
do this because what she does is she likes to
imagine getting all this money and people she would help.
(30:52):
And this is why I love her. Like she actually
spends a lot. And I go, Okay, maybe spending too
much time thinking about this, but I like that you're
doing it. Like so I could do this, we could
give this to this person, give this money to this person.
I'm like, that's great, that's awesome. I go, you realize
you don't have the money? Your I I understand you'd
be realized you don't have that money, you don't have
the money to do it, But you didn't dream about
a million other things you're gonna have or touch or
(31:14):
have anything to do with. Right, So why not think, hey,
you know what, I could do a lot of good
here and then maybe you refocus in budgetary stuff and
future planning. Of all right, I can't do it on
the billion dollar level, but how do I do some
little things here and there? Because I mean, look, if
you suddenly had that kind of cash infusion, you can
(31:36):
do a lot of things that government programs have failed
to do. Oh sure, well, I like your idea of
just going to buy a bunch of baseball cards, Well
I think I would. I would do that and earning
the T two o six Twitter lighting it on fire,
or just say you're gonna buy Twitter and then not
do it. You can do that as well. Well, that's
going to cost him a billion dollars if he loses.
I don't know. I think they're worried about the guy
(31:57):
that biding race. My time with that, I think my
social media visibility would will shrink market. Harmon would try
to buy the Polkan Aerco statue. I would have a
replica made. He's in front of his house. Does he
have lions heads? Nope, he's got and he's got a
(32:19):
babe on either side of his walk away. Hi, Mr Larusa,
can you move this and get this move to the
front of my house? Great, I'll call back let me know.
So we could have lunch with Tony Larusa. Maybe that
would be something we do. I mean we definitely have
j oh yeah, yeah, yeah, be easy. I mean we
go to his we go to Jose's house. He would
make burgers for us and everything. Yeah. I think I
(32:42):
think we I think Jose, we would have enough money.
We could do whatever we want to with Jose. Hey, Jose,
we're gonna play a baseball game out here. Really, Yes,
call all your other as friends you can call up
that will come over and play. And we're just gonna
be like your own field of dreams, except we're playing
in a with a pool in the back instead of
a cornfield. Tell you what, I won't ask them any questions,
but they've all got to be all guys who are
(33:04):
on the juice. Uh now, Hey, speaking of the lottery,
we have a week till the MLB trade deadline. We
talked to John Palmer Rossi tonight, MLB network insider, who
has said all along he expects Juan Soto to be traded.
I expect Juan Soto to go at the deadline. He
(33:26):
said this all the way through. Now, you had two
teams played tonight, and even though they're playing really well,
sometimes perception is reality. And you watch the Mets beat
the Yankees tonight, and the Yankees have not been playing well,
and oh my god, the lead is down to eleven
and a half games. I love that Yankees. Twitter just
losing it tonight. They want they want cashmine to go
(33:49):
out and get Ohtani and Soto and now get all
these guys for the game tomorrow. We gotta beat the Mets.
We can't get swept up. I love the Yankees and
losing their minds. And Dodger fans are starting to feel
it a little bit as well. They have a big
lead in the West, but they're not hitting the ball.
The bullpen imploded. They could get swept by the Nationals.
(34:10):
This is the time of year where if you are
a contending team, you do not want to be playing
like this. You do not want to go into the
trade deadline and have to think to yourself, are we
really good and we're just at a bad spot in
the season, or are we not as good as we
think we are? Because that that messes with your direction
(34:30):
going forward. Do we really need to make a change
or can we Can we wait and just do a
couple of minor things. So I ask you this, Mike Harmen,
who's making the bigger trade at the deadline? The Yankees
or the Dodgers, because neither team is gonna stand pad.
I think the one thing they have seen is that
as good as we are, the Yankees are saying we're
(34:51):
not as good as the Astros. The Dodgers may be
saying we might not be as good as the Mets
or the Brewers of the Braise. And we're seeing a
little bit here. Well, now the Dodgers, they're not hitting
the bottom half of the lineups not hitting, and and
you're wondering has the bullpen going to be able to
hold up throughout the rest of the season. Who makes
the bigger trade? Mike? Is it the Yankees or is
(35:11):
it the Dodgers? Who? But you have the questions, you know,
of all these players that are gonna come back out,
you know, off the injury list, which is why San
Diego is also intriguing. Do they decide, well, we're in
for three hundred, what's what's a few more between friends?
Uh in a couple of years for one. So I
would say the Dodgers just organizationally, aggressiveness and their stance there, uh,
(35:36):
roster management. But also when you look at the farm system,
I don't trust Brian Cashman to get the big trade done. No,
I and I go with the Dodgers too. And and
that's the whole reason. Brian Cashman has driven to the
middle and he's decided I'm not going to do bold
things anymore, not gonna do it during the season. This
is not your older brothers Yankees, where whenever we need
something of the deadline, we're gonna go get it. No,
(35:57):
he's afraid because he's afraid to trade prospects awake, is
afraid what could happen if they wind up playing well.
He was always great doing it when the guys would
go to other teams and suck right, we figured out.
But once he got a little afraid. Now I don't
do it as much. The Dodgers do it all the time. Yeah,
we got prospects to why their prospects we trade them away.
We'll bring guys and we'll bring in a replacement for
(36:17):
Corey Seeger. We'll bring in Max Suers or hopefully we
keep them. So yeah, I would say the bigger trade
is gonna wind up being the Dodgers, not the Yankees,
and your team will get involved. Maybe it's contraras, maybe
it's some other pieces. Maybe it's Otani. We're linked Otani
by car. But it's exciting. What just because someone who
claims to be a source said that exactly the Burner account,
(36:41):
that's that we put in a call. We're linked to him.
Were left a voicemail at the GM and the front
office of the Angels. We'll be more linked to Josh Bell,
will be linked Toti. But that's okay, happens that way.
You keep trying, though,
