JK Rowling has waded into the argument surrounding Scotland’s new hate speech laws.
The Hate Crime and Public Order (Scotland) Act is intended to consolidate existing hate crime laws along with creating a new offence of “threatening or abusive behaviour which is intended to stir up hatred” on the grounds of age, disability, religion, sexual orientation, transgender identity and variations in sex characteristics.
UK Correspondent Enda Brady told Mike Hosking that Rowling has been extremely trans-critical or gender-critical in recent years and has effectively dared Police to enforce this law in regard to her.
With the legislation coming into effect today, Rowling made several tweets naming transgender women and ending the thread by calling them all men.
Brady said it’s going to be fascinating to see if the police will actually step in and question Rowling.
