Speaker 1 (00:00):
So this weekend for the All Blacks. We have Ireland.
Last time we met was the World Cup, of course,
where we won, which was a very big deal given
they were favorites at the time. The All Black coach
Scott Robertson is with us. Good morning, we'll go to
from here and now we have not talked since the
Northern Tour began. Are you enjoying it? Is it going well?
Speaker 2 (00:18):
It's been a good start. Obviously going through Japan set
us up for then England game in a heavy everything
tessments pretty goes down to only a few moments. We
put enough pushure on them to know them to stop
their drop goal and had enough opportunities for ourselves. You
len quick and it's been a help of start.
Speaker 1 (00:37):
What's the vibe in terms of coverage of you in
that part of the world after England? Are you taking
as seriously do you think as an All Black squad
as you always have been?
Speaker 2 (00:48):
Oh? Mane, it's huge, it's Irish. You know, this is
a massive weekend for them. You know obviously what happened
in the quarterfinal and you know it took a series
one of us did for so there's a there's a
lot in it. You know, like you know five tonight
at Viva, you know, the crowd with six Guinnesses in them,
(01:08):
it's going to be a hell of an atmosphere. But
there certainly a lot of media and the high around.
Speaker 1 (01:13):
The niggle that we talk of is it real or not?
Speaker 2 (01:15):
Really, it's real. It's real and it's good. Like the
personalities and the stories and behind it just adds to
the flavor of the occasion. You know, the just MAT's
footy and up till probably what seven eight years ago,
you know New Zealand, the all back city the number
for a long period of time, but you know it's
five and five the last ten matches. They've split them.
(01:40):
We've split them in and now you know they're the
real deal Island top ranking and they have everything in place,
their processes around all from their age groups, schools right
through up to their professional levels. It's because you get
in the world.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
That sort of answers my question, what is that your
assessment of why they are where they are now.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
Yeah, it's a massive part of it. Good good coaching,
consistent coaching, pathways, aligned, good competitions and they playing you know,
their own usc but also the European Cups that they
played some big teams and they've had a consistency of players,
you know, a lot of experienced players to stick together
(02:23):
for a long period of time. And Johnny Siston's Albus
obvious one that paid a lot of test experience once
test footy on most days, and they've got a lot
of it in they're a tight group. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
What what's the difference between when you were there and
you were playing and what they do now by way
of a system. Has it changed dramatically?
Speaker 2 (02:46):
Yeah? It there's a lot really official, really aligned. Like
when I was over here paying for Pip even you know,
me autoring with the all backs. I remember we're down.
I think we're down twenty points in the first few
minutes and Jonas score a try. I turned it around
a week put twenty on them. But those days are gone,
you know, you know they're still in all of you
(03:09):
all backs in regards to the history, but on field
is a lot tighter. It is all top six, six
to eight teams and we're bugby. There's only one called
plays these small margins. Things have even up along it,
but a less exciting part. You know, how do you
how do you find waste to win these games is
the key.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
How are you feeling about the tour itself? Because as
far as Northern tours go, it's a good tour, isn't it.
Because England and Ireland, other teams, the ore the ones
you want to play and you throw in France, that's
not a bad mix.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
Yeah. The calendar when you throw it, the most just
mentioned is every blade fourteen And then you get this,
you know, the Northern Tour. You know we're forty days
away between three days into it and you and you
go back to back to back and they're away. You know,
we're I think we're sixty percent maybe even more percent percentages.
You know all bex per way tests. You know we've
(04:00):
had five at homen and nine away. Yeah, it's just
part of the game. You know, when you winning procedures
is great and you pay away their heads to it
and you know we're excited to work tomorrow night and
the occasion. You know, the leader has been great and
there's part of going north. You know, when you sit
at the bottom of the world and your neighbors then
tactically you do a lot. Bit that is true.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
Is the weather effactor at all? Is it cold and
miserable and dark at two o'clock in the afternoon.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
Yeah, we saw some two days in a row. This
is tropical. Now it's not. It's look there big a
bit agrees on the ball mat talking them last week,
seventeen degrees is unbelievable. We couldn't we you know, we're
training with a little bit of water on the ball
and all week and it turned out a beauty date.
Like he's going to be an actual bit of Greecius.
(04:46):
He might be a little bit more kicking, but both
teams will play, you know, they're like they're like short
passing games, so being entertaining. But the weather's played this
part so far.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
Each week we have when when you're not on, we
have a player and I asked the player about their
view of you and Patrick tow a blow was on
last week. Every one of them has said they like
your sense of humor. A they like you, but they
like your sense of humor. Is that is that part
of what you brought to the camp.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
It's nice to hear this. No one said there all
the players have the anyway, I'm just myself. I think
I think as long as they say that, and they
understand that the sense humans backed up by understanding the
game professional and helping them be better, you know, getting
the best out of themselves and coming environment where they
can perform. And I suppose that the humor on the
side is that's just me. I'm a people person. I
(05:31):
enjoy being around, having a company and the gift of
Rugbys you get together and everyone's got your talents and
you come together as a team. So it's nice to hear.
Speaker 1 (05:40):
What about the psychology of the tour. I don't want
to get ahead of it, but I mean this is
this is the pinnacle asn't Islands the pinnacle. France can
be brilliant, but then again they might not be. And
then you've got Italy. Do you worry that psychologically you
can get past this people are going to go a
bit soft.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
No. I think my focus has been today in the
week in front of us, because you can start looking
idea on the check in it. You know, you want
to start looking two early at Christmas. You want you
want to make sure that you you keep what's on
front of you right the week right, And they said,
because then you get to hit the night ride and
the performances and enjoy it like we we talked a
(06:15):
little bit around the Invincibles. Now they do were away
for nine months one hundred years ago, so you've got
to put a little bit in context. A lot has changed. Yeah,
they went up in the front of the plane there
in the back of the boat, you know. So you
know we're you know, we're grateful for the opportunities as
well when you know we've got telling them representing and
serving a great country. So we put a bit of
perspective in it.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
Fantastic, go well mate, Scott Robinson with us Mike, I
got Ireland winning first half to Leah and Will Jordan
try a score all Blacks coming through the win by
five more points. Go the All Blacks, Mike. That was
a fabulous and to be with Scott Roberson eloquent and
engaging with the incredible insights nearly really never really heard
him speak before.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
Glad you like.
