The Melbourne Storm beat the Warriors 38-24 at Mt Smart Stadium on Saturday, the sixteenth time they’ve won this match-up.

After scoring three tries at the beginning, the Warriors spent the rest of the game with their wingers Marcelo Montoya and Dallin Watene-Zelezniak in the sin bin.

SportsTalk Host Jason Pine told Heather du Plessis-Allan “I’m sure the players would have said not to worry about the history... but 15 games seems like a very long time.”

Piney said “The Storm are a good team, don’t get me wrong, they’re top of the NRL.”

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Jason Pie and sports stalk coasters with me right now, pineyy,
Hello Heather. That was hard viewing the Warriors versus the Storm.
I meant, I was like, I was sending texts at
the start, how good it just stopped it just my phone.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Terrible Saturday for me because I had to watch the
Hurricanes lose then get home and didn't get a shred
of joy from the Warriors either apart from that first
ten to fifteen minutes. Yeah, Warriors just find it very
hard to beat the Storm. We spoke about it on Friday,
didn't we. You know, it had been fifteen games without
any joy. Now sixteen. It just seems to be an
unfeasibly long time. And I'm sure the players themselves would say, look,

(00:33):
we don't worry about the history and what's gone before.
We just play in front of us. But that seems
like a very very long time between any any sort
of success against against one team. The Storm are a
good team, don't get me wrong, the top of the
NRL for a reason. But I was just probably, like
you thought that this was going to be the day
that they did snap that streak, but unfortunately it goes on.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
I mean, is it because the storm are so good
at the top of the table, or is there a
hoodoo going on here?

Speaker 2 (01:01):
I think the first part of that is, yes, the
storm are good because the top of the table, or
are good because that's where they'll find themselves.

Speaker 3 (01:07):
Is there a hohodo? I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
I reckon it must play on your mind a little bit,
especially when it gets tight and you think to yourself, man,
we just haven't beaten these guys for so long, and
here we go again. They'll say it doesn't play on
their minds, but I reckon, I might just sit there
in the back of them.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
Do you think that Sewan Johnson was convincing, Well.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
That's not convincing now, it's not a convincing answer.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
He hasn't played for four weeks and so you know
he wasn't.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
Making excuses for him painting.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
Yeah, I think he'll get better. He'll be better for
the he'll be better for the run. I hope you'll
be a lot better against the Titans.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
Okay, So the answer to my question was.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
No, Yeah, well he was he didn't. He wasn't the
Sean Johnson that he was, you know at the back
end of last year when he was tearing it up.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
Does Webbs put some mighty Martin back in that position.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
No, I think he'll stick with him. I think he's
shown he's shown loyalty to a lot of players in
that team, including Sean Johnson. I think he'll leave it
and the seven Jumper and Martin will stay in the
sixth year.

Speaker 3 (02:02):
Okay, now, I'll tell you what.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
I'm a little nervous for the Blues after that performance
from the Chiefs.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
I think the Blues were gone as favorites. But the
Chiefs were good the other day, really good away from home,
which is what what they have to do if they're
going to win Super Rugby. The only question mark over
them is injuries. They they're losing two of their or
definitely one and probably two of their hookers, a couple
of other players with question marks hanging over them. The
Blues fully fit at home, firing, looking really really good.

(02:28):
I just hope it's a great game. I've got no
skin in the game anymore. I just hope for a
terrific game of rugby. But the Blues I think are
rightful favorites at this point.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
Piney always appreciate talking to you. Thank you so much
