Speaker 1 (00:00):
So Scott Barrett, in a like in news we were
all expecting, has been named the captain of the All Blacks.
The new coach, Scott Robertson has revealed his team lineup
for the Test matches against Fiji in England, and associate
assistant All Blacks coach Jason Ryan is on the line
from the announcement in christ is with us the right now. Jason, Hello,
good evening. He hey, well thank you. How did the
Scott Barrett announcement go down?
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (00:21):
Well, you know, he's a real leader and players follow
him and he's a winner.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
When you say he's a winner, he's a winner because
he played for the Crusaders and won.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
Everything pretty much.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
Well, it's good to have a winner in there. Is
this the first time in history that we've had two
brothers in the captaincy trio?
Speaker 2 (00:40):
I'm not too sure, Actually no, I couldn't answer that.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
Did they did? I mean, were they stoked about it?
Speaker 2 (00:47):
Yeah? Definitely.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
I think they'll work pretty well together. They both see
the game differently, but you know, pretty experienced now as well,
so I think they'll compliment each other.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
And that role with.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
Artie Jason is Damien McKenzie your first choice, first five?
Speaker 2 (01:03):
Not sure yet?
Speaker 1 (01:04):
What's going to make your mind up?
Speaker 3 (01:06):
Well, we have a look at him train and the
boys come in this week and like all the boys
that have been announced, there's thirty two players there and
there's no starting team picked until the test week.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
So I only saw Damien mackenzie and Bowden Barrett in
for that position. Is there is Stephen Parafetta an option
to pull in as well?
Speaker 2 (01:25):
Yep, he can cover that Stevie.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
Yeah, and then what about the three locks? So the
boys in the newsroom in the sports department was saying
to me, they think that's weird that you've named three
locks and one of them has got an injury.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
Well, Sam Barry's coming in for cover, so he'll be
with us for a couple of weeks.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
Okay, why did you leave out Hoskins to Tutu, Well, we.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
Just thought Wallace the td is work create both sides
of the ball as phenomenal and he put his hand up.
Could not pick him the performance that he had in
the semi final. He put on a bit of a
master class and for a young man, we'll see a
huge future in him.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
Head.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
Good conversations with hos during the air and with the
Blues coaching staff and a couple of areas that we're
that we're looking at, And yeah, we just believe Wallace
has earned his opportunity.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
And also he can cover a couple of positions.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
Of the five guys, he's obviously one of the one
of the five uncapped players that you've pulled in of
the five of them, is he the most exciting?
Speaker 3 (02:19):
Well, I think that'd be a little b unfair to
say he's the most exciting. I think that, you know,
it's a good balance of you know, all the Lucy's
have got their own real point of difference, to be.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
Fair, who got to call these players?
Speaker 3 (02:30):
Did?
Speaker 1 (02:30):
Did Razer have to do all of them? Or did
you guys split it up?
Speaker 3 (02:34):
They heard it live like the rest of the country
like the old days. Yeah, other than Pasilio and TJ
and Jordie who were obviously here along with Scott, So
we just changed it up a little bit. And yeah,
I guess it is a little bit like the old days.
Bring a little bit of a tradition back, which was nice, right.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
So Pasilio is one of the ones also who you've
brought an uncapped Who got to call him and tell
him that he's made the squat.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
Yeah, Raiser rung him this morning and let him know
and said he needs to be on a fly for
for the announcement today. And he was at our non
finalist camp last week with a few of the other
boys that have also made it.
Speaker 2 (03:08):
So you know it's exciting for him and his family.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
Did you did you Copple look at him as he fizzing.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
Yeah, I know he's right on his toes. He's he's
got a mess of ceiling. Plus Leo, we've been looking
tracking of quite some time, strongest prop in the country
and he's got a big future at Test match rugby.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
I'm sure how's raised feeling Jason because there's heaps of
like there's pressure on him man, like we're expecting him
to win everything.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
Well, I think every head coaches and every all black
coaches expect to win everything. So I think it's you know,
that's part of the that's part of the legacy, it's
part of you know, who we are. It's what the
Black Jersey ask of you, and we wouldn't want.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
That any any any way else.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
To be fair Now, fair enough, okay, what happens for
you guys, now do you get to celebrate or is
it just like straight into the business.
Speaker 3 (03:52):
You know, we're we're on a eleven o'clock flight tomorrow
morning up to to Wellington to assemble as a management group,
the All Black player as they're all on promos, promos
and Auckland for the whole day and then we assemble on.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
Wednesday up in Wellington here and then we have.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
Pretty much a couple of days together there and then
then it's the weekend and we've got seven days we
play England, so it's going to come around pretty quick
now and really looking forward to it.
Speaker 1 (04:19):
Good stuff, mate, looking forward to it myself. Jason, thank
you so much. Go well. That's Jason Ryan, the assistant
