Speaker 1 (00:00):
Devin Gray are UK correspondents with us. Hey, Kevin Hiverer Heller, Devin,
does it sound like you guys actually might be sorting
out this problem with the Chinese electric vehicles and all
the tariffs and stuff.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
It's looking a lot more positive than it had been.
Of course, America has raised its tariff on Chinese electric
cars from twenty five percent to one hundred percent last month.
That you have threatened up to thirty eight percent for
air vehicles imported into the European Union. They claim the
Chinese government is effectively subsidized in their production. The Chinese
then threatened that something similar back. It's not popular among
(00:34):
some politicians in Germany, in particular with a big manufacturing base.
It's not popular indeed in the industry. But after a
phone call over the weekend, it looks like talks aren't
actually going to happen to try and resolve the matter,
though no firm progress on this yet.
Speaker 1 (00:49):
Now, what happened with the wolves in the park near Paris?
Speaker 2 (00:52):
Yeah, were a great question. So a woman has been
attacked by wolves. Now the thirty six year old victim
was staying at a lodge within something called Tiori Park.
Now that is an animal park near Paris, and it's
looked like that she stayed there in accommodation overnight and
then strayed into the main safari zone, which is only
(01:15):
reserved for cars to go through animal enclosures, and she
went early in the morning for a job while within
moments she was set upon by three arctic walls. Suffered
severe bites to her neck, back and leg and the
trip to hospital of course an intensive care. I wasn't
far behind. We haven't yet got a condition check on her.
(01:35):
We don't know why she went into a car only zone,
whether she didn't see the symbols or the science and
investigation is underway, but obviously a pretty unpleasant attack.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
Yeah, totally. Hey, so what about Elton John, I who's
he giving all this money to charity to?
Speaker 2 (01:50):
Yeah? Well, mostly, of course, I think it probably adds
up to his AIDS foundation. But Alton John is the
most generous celebrity in the UK. According to a new survey.
He donates, believe it or not, six thousand New Zealand
dollars to charities every hour of every day. He does,
of course, have a billion New Zealand dollar fortune, and
(02:10):
he dishes out roughly one hundred and sixty thousand New
Zealand dollars a day to charityle have causes close to
his heart. It works out of the staggering fifty eight
million New Zealand dollars a year. Incidentally, he's not alone.
He is pushed very very closely by JK. Rowling, the
author of Harry Potter, into second place, and then the
Formula one driver Lewis Hamilton is third. Lord Alan Sugar,
(02:33):
who of course is a big magnet over here in
industry fourth, and Lord Andrew Lloyd Wether, the composer of
so many musicals, is in fifth. However, as generous as
that all may seen, they are absolutely dwarfed by one
or two. In the world of banking, an investment banker
here called Sir Chris Hein has donated a massive amount
of money over the last few years, estimated to be
(02:56):
some one point two billion New Zealand dollars a year.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Oh, how good is that? You got to love that stuff? Gavin,
Thank you so much. Talk to you in a couple
of days. Kevin Gray, UK correspondent.
