The Green Party gave Darleen Tana a cold reception as she returned to the House as an independent MP.

Tana has been asked to resign from Parliament following the release of a review into alleged migrant exploitation at her husband's business.

Newstalk ZB political editor Jason Walls says leader Chloe Swarbrick is looking into other options for Tana ahead of this weekend's AGM.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Jason Wall's Newstalkszreb's political editism for Barrysoberhey, Jason Afternoon, Heather Hey.
So did they even talk to Darlene the Greens? Did
they even talk? Did they even look at her? Absolutely not.
She cast a somewhat lonely figure sitting at the back
of the debating chamber this afternoon in a seat where
the press gallery calls Siberia. Given it's so far away

(00:20):
from everyone else. It's a seat that in the past
has been warmed by the likes of Jamie Lee, Ross,
Goodev Shatima, Elizabeth Ketty Kenny and Mika Fight Today, not
exactly an enviable list by any stretch of the imagination.
It's actually directly behind the Green Party. But there are
MP's wanted nothing to do with her today, although she
did get a few hongy from Tipati Mahdi MPs as
they came into the chamber as well. The Greens are

(00:42):
still angry with her co leader Chloe Swarbrick today again
telling her to resign. And there's a bit of a twist.
Now have a listen to what Swarbrick had to tell
us before going into the house today.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
Are we in a situation where we have to explore
other options. Then we will have those sensitive conversations at
our AGM the summing weekend.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
Your AGM this weekend is when the robber hits the
road in terms of that conversation.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
When it comes to sensitive discussions with our party about
what potential other avenues may be available to us, those
will happen with our party at the AGM. As I've
been saying for weeks on how the feel about this situation,
I can be pretty clear with you that there are
a number of members across the country who have reached
out to me incredibly frustrated about this situation and about

(01:24):
Darlian Tanna's unwillingness to take responsibility for what's happened to here.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
So it's the Green quite fittingly, actually, it's the Greens
AGM this weekend in christ Church, and it sounds as
though the delegates are going to cast some sort of
doubt vote on Darlien's future. Now this is a vote
I would imagine that would be about using the Walker
jumping legislation. That is the law that allows parties to
expel a member of Parliament who's left the party that
they entered parliament.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
In with.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
And the problem here for the Greens is that they
fought tooth and nail against this legislation when it was
before the House. So the question is use the law
and be hypocrites, or don't use it. And then Darlian
Tana stays here for a while. And we know that
Darlen Tana expects to stay here for a while as
an independent because have a listen to what she said
when she was caught by reporters in Parliament this afternoon.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
I'm here now and doing the mahi, and you don't
intend to go anywhere. You're here to stay. I'm here
now and doing the mahi for as long as this
place growing out.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
So the problem is as long as this place allows
might be three more whole days.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
It's a week's pay, you know, and on top of
the other three weeks, it's a month's pace. Nothing to
be sniffed out on. That income is pretty good.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
Why did Winston use the R word? Oh, it was
one heck of a rodeo in the rodeo, as he
would say in the House today in terms of insults
flying and slurs flying. So right with the White idea
of anti party, Marti got the ball rolling with this.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
How does the Minister for Mardi Crown Relations feel being
wheeled out by this government to answer a question that
was directed to the Prime Minister.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
So this one wasn't too bad, a little reductive, especially
considering Tamapultaka, who was the minister meant to be answering
the questions, was actually at a tangy to day. And
it was also a little ironic how often or how
little Pati Marti actually show up in the house. And
then it was Winston who took it to the next level.

Speaker 3 (03:08):
Does the Minister think that attending someone's close relations tonguey
is a case of being wheeled out of this parliament?
Has been put by that last idiotic questioner.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
Now this drew somewhat of an ironic response from Debbi
Nadi Wapaka.

Speaker 3 (03:22):
We asked that decorum be restored to this house.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
Ironic in the sense that it's the Tipati Marti who
most often robbed the house of said decorum. Winston wouldn't
allow them to have the last word and drop this
line now a warning he uses a word here that
many people might find offensive.

Speaker 3 (03:38):
Ask the minister does two of the top three in
this Parliament who have got Marie background, or the highest
percentage of marian and Pacifica in a cabinet represent progress
or the kind of retard comment you just heard.

Speaker 1 (03:51):
You cannot say that one, Winston. So we asked him
about it outside of the house, and his response was
somewhat predictable. Have a listened to this exchange I had
with him, most people would look at that word and say.

Speaker 3 (04:01):
We're not dealing with Most people are diding. Somebody were understanding.
Excuse me when I'll answer the question, you shut up
another answer when you're speaking. Okay, here we go. There's
many answers to the interpretations of that word, many of
means just slowing the vehicle down, stopping it down, or
shutting it down. Got many of all answers in.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
That Winston, come on, I don't think that's what you
meant when you said it in the house. Jason, thank
you very much. Really appreciated Jason Wall's new sod zb's
political editor and for Barry Soap.
