Enda Brady: UK correspondent on UK MPs deleting their X accounts to protest Elon Musk

Over in the UK, several Labour MPs have deleted their X accounts amid concerns about the platform.

A group of newly-elected MPs have raised the alarm about the role X (formerly Twitter) played in spreading misinformation and harm during the far-right-led riots across the nation.

UK correspondent Enda Brady says this could start a discussion about the role social media platforms can play during times of unrest.

Yes, another incident and it's shocking all over the front pages. Again. Thankfully,
this little girl has been saved by the very quick
actions of a brave security guard who saw what was
unfolding in Leicester Square. Happened just after half eleven in
the morning here and an eleven year old girl. She
was with a thirty four year old woman who the

media think was her mum. They're in Leicester Square, so
it's been very very hot here. It's peak summer tourism
time and Leicester Square is very very busy. So this
guy has approached the eleven year old girl with a
knife and proceeded to attack her with the knife. Now,
this security guard sprinted from the shop where he was working,

hurled himself at the guy, kicked the blade away and
basically pinned them to the ground. Two other men then
joined in and they held this guy on the ground
until police officers came. Paramedics on the scene within minutes.
Little girl taken the hospital. They initially taught the other
woman had been stabbed a thirty four year old woman,
but it was blood from the child. Little girl is

still in hospital, her injuries not thought to be life threatening,
so she will live. But absolute horror on the streets
of this country yet again, motivation, no idea, We've no
idea yet. A man has now been charged with attempted
murder and possession of a bladed implement. He'll appear in
court in the next couple of hours. But you know,

there's not a week us past that we're not seeing
life crime in some town or city here. It's terrible,
it really is.

Yeah, it's pretty mean to life. Listen, I'm on the
Twitter thing and the X thing. How many of the
government ministers of imps of status taking their.

Council So it's a handful so far. But this began
last night and journalists who follow these people just started
realizing though he's gone, and one by one they've all
been falling away. And it's in protest that Elon Musk.
So you'll remember the riots we had here last week,
in the week before, everything that has happened in the
UK in the last fortnight. He's put the boot into

Kere Starmer. He really has, and a lot of people
are wondering, you know, what's his beef, what's his interest
in the UK? He's not reish, he has no interests here,
and yet Elon Musk, you know, pulling strings and really
kind of being hyper critical of Kere Starmer, who's only
four weeks into the job and I think most people
think is doing a very good job. We know, an
actual prosecutor in charge at a time when the criminals

have risen up in the last week or so, most
people would applaud that. So it's interesting what's happening. I
think we will see more government MPs leaving x or
Twitter in the next couple of days, and long term,
I think there's a conversation to be had between the
UK government and social media platforms about just how much racist,
bile and misinformation was spewed out of these places in

the last two weeks, which fan the flames of those right.

Yes, So we had a record breaking day here yesterday
for the year. Anyway, it got up to thirty four
point eight celsius in Cambridge. I was in London yesterday
and it was absolutely baking hot. The tube journey home,
I was counting down the stops till I reached my car.
Ten stops I had, and I was, oh my god.
There were so many people in the carriages. It was

packed and humid and horrible. It's not going to be
as hot today, but you know, we're reaching a stage
now where once or twice a year we are getting
these incredible temperatures. Not as bad as it was two
years ago. I hit forty celsius here two years ago,
thirty four point eight in Cambridge yesterday, Jay's end will.
