Gavin Grey: UK correspondent on the ongoing search for the six people who went missing after Sicily yacht sank

Divers have resumed their hunt for the six missing people who disappeared after a luxury yacht sank off Sicily's coast.

The British-flagged Bayesian, a 56-metre-long superyacht, was carrying 22 people and anchored off the port of Porticello when it was hit by a fierce, pre-dawn storm on Tuesday.

UK correspondent Gavin Grey says hopes are dwindling - and this is more likely to be a recovery mission than a rescue.

Hi there, Hell, Hey, I mean there is some talk
that maybe there are people on that boat in air pockets,
but it really feels like it feels like a long shot, doesn't.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
It a very long shot? Now? Yeah, day three of
the search. The divers set off about an hour and
a half ago now, but it is looking very very unlikely.
I think this is more a recovery than a rescue mission. Sadly,
at the moment we do now know that it is
believed anyway that the identity of the dead man who

was found was the Canadian Antigue and National chef called
Ricaldo Thomas, one of twenty two on board. Many rescued,
but those sixth film missing, including the man dubbed the
British Mike, British Mike Lynch. He is dubbed as the
Bill Gates of Britain, the tech tycoon worth billions of pounds,

his eighteen year old daughter, and plus the international chair
of Morgan Stanley, Jonathan Bloomer and his wife. So there
are some very prominent names on board. It's being reported,
Heather that actually they were all on board to celebrate
the win that Mike Lynch had had in a recent
court case, and obviously tragedy befell them when it appears

there was some sort of an amazing weather event on
the coast of Syphily.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
Kevin, have you got your hands on any of these
one pound coins with Charles's face on them?

Speaker 2 (01:32):
No, not yet, but I'm quite keen to do so,
so yeah. The one pound coins worth roughly to twenty
two New Zealand dollars and twenty featuring King Charles the
Thurdthering circulation. Three million of them have now been issued.
They of course mark the King's new reign, but also
on the flip side, the tails side, his love of
the natural world. It features a couple of bees on there,

and they are going to continue, of course with the
Queen Elizabeth the second coins, but they are some twenty
nine billion coins in circulation in the UK, so it
will be quite a fascinating thing to get your hands
on the first one with King Charles on. The new
designs were revealed back in October. The tail side of

each coin will feature the country's flora and fauna, animals
ranging from the red squirrel to the kaffakealli grouse also
depicted to show the importance and precariousness of the natural world,
something we know. King Charles is very new.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
The bees are really cool, Gvin. But how does he
feel about his profile?

Speaker 2 (02:37):
Well, yeah, I must say it does seem to age
him a little bit, said if he were saying it's
not terribly good. But let's not forget he has approved
this and perhaps we used to seeing the Queen in
her earlier images rather than some of the later ones
on the coins. But yeah, you're right, I wouldn't say
it's overwhelmingly positively Kevin.
