Day four of the one-off test between the Black Caps and Afghanistan has been abandoned before the scheduled start of play, as rain fell over Greater Noida, India.

For the fourth day in succession, rainfall has forced the match to be called off before a single ball was bowled.

The final clash is still scheduled for Friday - but hints of poor weather leave the event in doubt.

Sportstalk host D'Arcy Waldegrave explains further.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
I'm going to make a fortune this weekend? Why what on?
What on? What? Well? Actually UFC's was interesting to throw
a few bucks on, but I live when I was
going to make a fortune. There's a guy O'Malley who's
fantastic to watch the only band like tiny, like sixty
something cage what News Watch him? I don't think you'd

(00:23):
want to. But he's only paying a dollar seventy two
to win against this guy the velos Veli, who's paying
two fifteen, So that's probably too tight to go putting
a wholem of money on. But for me, it's the
excitement of watching it to see you're going to win
or lose, but the fight itself is going to be amazing.
This O'Malley is one of the best strikers you'll see.
Super skinny, really really long, really long arms, and he

(00:44):
targets people. He knows where they're button is, so he
touches them a bit, sees where it is, and he
can throw punches at the strangest angles out of anywhere.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
Is he from Ireland?

Speaker 1 (00:54):
Absolutely well, I think he's got Irish blood, but he's
an American. He's got a great back still. If you
want to look at some old UFC documentaries. The trouble
is Vashavili gets him on the deck, could be a
real problem. He might be able to get up. He's
got a good background take one. No, but whether he
can we don't know. So tight so maybe not a

(01:16):
lot of money to be made. But I kind of
like to bet from time to time to the tab.
I might add I am over eighteen, which you have
to be, and I will bet responsibly. It's just because
it adds a bit of that extra pep, you know,
it makes it a little bit more Still we So
that's me this weekend.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
Do you know what what is interesting to watch the cricket?

Speaker 1 (01:37):
Why? What's interesting about watching rain?

Speaker 2 (01:39):
What the hell's going on? This is?

Speaker 1 (01:41):
Dave?

Speaker 2 (01:41):
Are we going to give up on this? Well?

Speaker 1 (01:43):
I thought we should have given up after day two,
even earlier.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
Okay, why did they? Why did they schedule a game
like this at the end of the season of rain?

Speaker 1 (01:53):
Well, you see, the monsoon season apparently finishes mid August,
and of course you can always predict the vagaries a lot.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Well, it's not actually the rain season. It's like, well
passed it.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
I cut two weeks or three weeks an can't predict
anything on that or what it is is. Afghanistan had
the opportunity to go to the places that we want
to go here. It's been given the rubber stamp by
the BCCI. It's being a place you can play cricket
at and then it rained and then it wouldn't dry up,
so there were close to a big f gunny community.

(02:27):
So we need to go there, close to the nice hotel.
So thought you know we're going to go there. Absolutely
does that a black eye as well for the BCCI,
it's there. I think in total they've got thirty test
venues or have done over the years. I don't know
how many still going there. About fourteen fifteen, well yeah,
I think the twelfth current one, but there's been a
whole lot more. But to say that's okay, no warrant

(02:49):
of fitness, No, that's ridiculous.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
And the beginning, yeah, okay, Now do we know what
the smallspin is to read the trans thing that that
Jave Gerard and the other Olympians raised yesterday? Do we
know what the sports minister is going to do here?

Speaker 1 (03:04):
You never know what ministers are going to do. You've
been in this trade long enough haven't you.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
He just sounded a bit vague like he was like, yeah,
we're going to put fairness in along with inclusivity. Well
that's very subjective, isn't it.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
I think the key thing out of this is that
guidelines in place so the sporting bodies can actually make
a decision. Because the sporting bodies, and there's a number
of them, actually don't have any guidelines around engaging trans athletes.
That to means alarming. Look some of the lines that

(03:35):
they've crossed. People say they don't go far enough or
they go too far, but at least they've got them there,
so you've got an idea. It's like, here is our line,
here are the rules. This is what you can and
can't do. Agree or disagree. At least we know when
sports don't have that, it's manifested the unfair for everybody. Yes,
I don't. It's not a punch down on transgender people

(03:58):
saying we want these things, especially for physical sports, for
athletes that transitioned after pubert as males to females and
striking sports and the like. Yeah, rugby, I get that. Absolutely,
they need to have something that's fair and in place.
It's in balance. So I don't think it's an attack
on the trans community. I think just people need to
be told where the lines are.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Well everybody else, you know, even the trans athletes, they
can participate on it.

Speaker 1 (04:22):
And I think the interesting about this as well is
that the percentage of athletes who engage who are trans,
I would say, be very very very very small. So
I don't think it affects a huge amount of people.
And sometimes you feel they make too much the anti
trans the pro females about this when it's really quite small.

(04:42):
But guidelines, guidelines, and I think you need them in place.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
Thank you, Darcy, appreciate it. What is what's onou? My self?

Speaker 1 (04:47):
Identification doesn't work when it comes to something like bos
Are you talking about this tonight? No, I'm actually going
to talk about something completely different, which is I'm going
to talk about the need for personality and sports people.
After what we saw today with King Charles and a
number of blokes sports you don't is it important, yes,

(05:08):
to engage with the athletes as sports people or is
it fired up?

Speaker 2 (05:12):
We'll see this is going to get me fired up.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
We love the fact that the black fans do this,
and then.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
We look at the all Blacks and go. It's just
beige brigade.

Speaker 1 (05:20):
It is. But what's more important? Is it their results?
Or is it how they present as human beings? And
I'd suggest the all blacks have been so successful no
one cares that they're boring.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
No, we do.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
As soon as they start losing, people are going, hold on,
you got a personality, all right?

Speaker 2 (05:35):
Got to go, bring up Darcy. Can't wait for the show,
