Te Pāti Māori has warning the Government of the 'wrath of the million Māori' after a $30 million cut to a programme for teachers to learn te reo Māori.

It follows a South Auckland principal teacher’s union slamming the Government’s decision to cut funding to a programme for teachers to learn te reo Māori.

ZB senior political correspondent Barry Soper says Te Pāti Māori co-leader Rawiri Waititi has branded this the latest move in a series of 'attacks' on te iwi Māori.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Very sober political corrosors together jump the gun.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
What's the Mary Party had to say? Well, you know,
this is a party that would said it would like
harmonious race relations in this country. And they put out
what really is an inflammatory statement under the name of
Rivalry White Tee, the co leader of the party. It
talks about a new wave of colonization and the attacks

(00:28):
on Maori and they list a number of things like
throwing out the smoke free targets, which they say sentenced
more Maldi to premature death. Was one answer to that.
Give up smoking like many of us have done, aside
stepping the treaty with the fast track legislation that are
rung A tamariki changes. There, they say they're stealing our makapuna,

(00:53):
extracting oil and gas. They say, restoring three strikes. Well,
don't be bad boys building mega prison again, don't be
bad boys resurrecting boot camps again. Stop you know, play
play the rules in the country. So they've basically set
the scene for what went on in Parliament this afternoon,

(01:17):
and that was outside inside Parliament in the debating chamber. Now,
I've talked a lot about standards in the debating chamber
and we saw one of their Maldi MPs now before
the Privileges Committee, Takatu Ferris, who basically told lies in
the debating chamber. Now we've got another one not telling lies,

(01:38):
but Maria Meno Carpakini. She's the t Taitokorao MP and
she beat Calvin Davis. This party has really made a
big comeback in the last election when you consider the
South Island electorate, then I too who people and now
this one in Tee Tatokaw well, Kappa Kinghi. Someone should

(02:01):
have told her how to ask an acceptable question in parliament.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
Does he agree that the actions of this government, of
his government constitute ethnicide, the deliberate and systematic whole health
just pay what thuthority, systematic destruction of the culture of
an ethnic group.

Speaker 3 (02:19):
It's outside the bounds of what would be reasonable inside
the house. There are other ways of asking a question.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
Does he agree that the actions of this government constitute deculturation,
the deliberate and systemic, systematic destruction of culture, Madi culture.

Speaker 3 (02:37):
That's not an order either. I'm inviting the member to
ask a question in a different way, and I'm sure
you do that.

Speaker 1 (02:44):
Does he agree that the actions of this government constitute
harm and poverty and such things that impact on Madi.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
So the question was to a government minister. But you know,
they said, well, they are doing their best to appease
Moldy in many ways, not just what has been listed
in the Statements of grievance by waited Tim Okay. I
hate this UAE deal.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
Big deal.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
Well, you know, I initially thought it was the Golf
States deal. Now, I remember, you know, traveling through with
John Key and going to places like Saudi Arabia and
the United Arab Emirates, and I remember at the end
of that them saying, well, a trade deal is virtually written.
All has to happen now is for the ink to

(03:38):
dry on the paper and for the translation from Arabic
to English. And we all thought this is fantastic, because
if it was with the Golf States, it's enormous. This
is with the United Emirates as a population of around
nine million people. It's good. Nobody can deny that. And
they've done it in super quick time. But the groundwork

(04:00):
was laid probably ten years ago when they were negotiating
with the Gold State. And that's the big that's the
big apple that we're after. This one is really quite
small beer. Nevertheless, it's good because at least we've got
a foothold in the Golf region and I think that's
probably very important. Even Labor in Parliament this afternoon agreed

(04:22):
that it was done in super quick time and it
was a good effort.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
Yeah, and it will by the sounds of things, it's
actually warming the GCC up.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
Well that's the whole point, isn't it. Once they look
at that, But look believe it. Saudi Arabia is a
really difficult customer. And you'll remember the live sheep deal
and the farm in Saudi Arabia and all that sort
of stuff that saw everything for you, all about that
Saudi sheep farm deal. Okay, Bari, thanks very much.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
