It's definitely been a memorable weekend in the world of Kiwi sports.

Auckland FC started strong and beat the Brisbane Roar 2-0 in front of a sold-out crowd and Team New Zealand defended the America's Cup and became the first team to win the competition three times in a row.

The Black Caps also made history and beat India on Indian soil for the first time in 36 years in a significant victory, the Silver Ferns defeated Australia 64-50 in their first Constellation Cup test and the White Ferns emerged victorious over South Africa in the T20 Cricket World Cup.

Liam Lawson also showcased his skills by finishing ninth at the Texas Grand Prix in his return to Formula One.

Sportstalk host Jason Pine recapped this historic victory for Kiwi sports.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Jason Pine Sports store coast with us. Now, hey Piney,
Hey the Piney. How much all of the stuff that
happened in the weekend did you actually manage to watch?

Speaker 2 (00:07):
I watched a lot of it, Yes, I watched a lot. Yeah.
I haven't had a lot of sleep, I must say,
because because unfriendly time zones and Barcelona and up in
the UAE. But man, what a weekend. I can't think
of a better weekend and recent memory for our sports
teams and athletes.

Speaker 1 (00:23):
Okay, so explain to me how the White Ferns were
so rubbish and now they've done this, They've managed to
take the World Cup. How'd that happen?

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Well? I can't explain it apart from thinking that it
must be something to do with the momentum of getting
a win in the first game of the World Cup
against India and then just carrying that momentum and that
belief and that confidence on That really is the only
explanation I can come up with. It certainly has got
nothing to do with the lead inform, which, as you say,
was just atrocious. No one expected this, but well they

(00:52):
often say cricket's a funny game, and T twenty is
the funniest brand of the funniest game. And look they
you have to hand it to them. You know, this
team that that has been has been widely written off
in the last year or so, has basically.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
Done when it counts it.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
Yeah, peak when it counted. It's a triumph. It's a
triumph for peaking when it matters.

Speaker 1 (01:14):
That's too right. Hey, Liam Lawson? Has he proved himself
do you think?

Speaker 2 (01:17):
Yeah? I don't know whether he had to, but he
has ninth from twentieth. You know, he was back of
the grid because of a situation beyond his control. Where
yet to start at the back of the grid finishing
ninth which picks up some points. So I don't think
there was any doubt that Liam Lawson belongs in a
seat in Formula one. He's got six races five more
now this year to prove it. Unless something goes horribly
catastrophically wrong. He's got that seat again full time in

(01:40):
twenty twenty five. But so good to see him back racing.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
Did you think that the Auckland Football Club look like
trouble for you?

Speaker 2 (01:48):
Trouble for me personally?

Speaker 1 (01:49):
You're a Phoenix fan.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
Oh wonder what you were getting at ah, I'm very
impartial hither as you know. Look, I love being at
Mount Smart on Saturday. I thought it was a too
The g atmosphere, the crowd that turned up was amazing. Kudos,
huge kudos to the marketing team at Auckland FC for
building something and attracting people along to it. Was terrific.
There's much more of it.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
Brilliant stuff. And India right us beating India in India?
Can we repeace that?

Speaker 2 (02:14):
Do you reckon? Well? Hope? So? Two more test matches.
Last time they did that, Heather was nineteen eighty eight.
I don't think you were even around I had here
back then, man, incredible A long time since that happened. Yeah, well,
two more test matches we'll soon find out. Hopefully it's
not a flash in the pan. By the way, how
good is Rich and Ravendra? Answer? Incredible? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (02:32):
And how good are the silver ferns after all of
that as well?

Speaker 2 (02:34):
Oh yeah, we've got them as well. Yeah. True, there's
so much to look at.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
I mean, we absolutely will winners this past weekend, and
probably your dopamine levels are going to come right back
after this point. Thank you very much, mate, really appreciate
