Speaker 1 (00:00):
Here the get real no all black when this year
other than Japan has been convincing FFS, stick to what
you know. As you know nothing about rugby. Robertson thought
he could walk on water. He can't. Thumbs down, thumbs down.
Jason Pine's sports talk host does actually know about rugby,
and he's with May piney well.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
At the risk of receiving a similar text, I actually
think I actually agree with you. I think there's a
lot to like about the progress of Scott Robertson's All
Blacks throughout.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
This year because I mean, let's be honest, at the
start it was pretty bad, right. We looked at and
we were like, oh, jeez, give the guy. Cut the
guy some slack. But it's a lot of slack. We're
gutting him.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
Yeah, yeah, it was what was a four and three?
Were they? They were after the first seven tests of the
year they had won forur and lost three. You know,
we're fifty to fifty there or thereabouts, and as you say,
but for a point yesterday morning would be would be
looking at seven and zero to back end the year.
We're not. Of course, France did enough to win the
game yesterday. A couple of interesting things for me. I'm
not sure why they took cam Roygard off when they did. Yeah, right,
(00:56):
It just seemed odd to me that he, I mean,
he was playing well like he's and unleash they're managing
his minutes, which they haven't said they are on his
return from injury. I just would have just left the
guy on.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
Because it brook puff did he did not.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
Look puffed, And hindsight's always twenty twenty. Yeah, that as
we know. But I think I think Cortez Latima had
had a challenging thirty minutes at Cameroy Guard. If you
looked at the two of them, he acquitted himself a
lot better than Courtiz Latima. I would have left him
on at least until the sixty fifth minute. And I
often wonder if a half back's playing well, well, do
he just leave the guy on? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:28):
I take your point, right, stop stop kind of sticking
to the script and be a little bit more nimble.
But also there was a suggestion I heard today that
call to go for two penalties rather than a try
came from Razor up in the box.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
Is that a fact or not that Well, I've heard
that suggested too, And actually Elliott Smith mentioned it in
commentary because the All Backs coaches were right behind where
they were calling the game from. Yeah, and so I
think he got that got that sense from being in
and around the coaching box. It is possible that the
message got down because is a you know, they can
they're in comms with the guys on the sideline. They
(02:03):
can get a message out. Although in the postmatch Razer
said we back Scott Barrett to make the right calls
out there. So yeah, there's there's a bit of confusion
about who actually has the final say. I think it's
the on field captain, right. I feel like they are
the ones who have the final say. But yeah, I
don't think there's absolute clarity on who made the call yesterday.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
Okay, what's going on here? So Doug Bracewell has tested
positive for cocaine and been suspended for a month. Is
he playing domestic cricket?
Speaker 2 (02:31):
Is he well? This was this was at the back
end of last summer. Yeah, he tested positive for cocaine
after a game against Wellington back in January. Deemed to
have used it outside of competition. In fact, apparently was
after a game that that CD won and he played
pretty well, and so not related to sports performance. Test
(02:52):
a positive for cocaine one month ban a question, Yeah,
it's not related to performance.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
Why are we testing for it?
Speaker 2 (02:58):
Well, it's well, because it's against the sports integrity rules.
Is the answer to that. No, I agree with you.
I totally agree. If it's not performance enhancing, then then
you're right, why are we testing for it? It is
to do with integrity and that sort of thing. The
problem I have, Heather is that you know, you get
this line trotted out, Well, they're role models for our kids.
(03:20):
You know what, I'd prefer to be a role model
for my children. Then leave it in the hands of
Doug Bracewall. Pony.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
I was thinking exactly that. I was like, no, parents
are role models for kids. I mean, if you want to,
if you, I entirely agree with you. And I think
that we have to allow these people to just be humans,
you know, Like I'm not saying go out and snort
some cocaine, but I am saying they are going to
make mistakes from time to time, and I think I
think we're elevating them far beyond their actual status.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
I totally agree, totally agree.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
Piney, thank you. I'm going to put that guy on
to you who sent me that nasty text. Thank giving
you a personal number so I can hit you up
as well. Piney, thank you. That's Jason Pine's sports stalk
co host, seven o'clock tonight.
