Speaker 1 (00:00):
Jason Pyne is the host of Sports Talk this evening.
He's with us now killed a party killer, Jack. So
the black Caps versus England, they should have still been playing,
of course, Well I suppose they shouldn't necessarily have still
been playing. But the five day Test was four days
in the end. What needs to change for Test number two?

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Well, I think one thing that does is our catching.
I think we can all agree on that, Jack, that
that holding catchers would certainly be a very good place
to start. Look at was inexplicable? Wasn'ton how many did
we put down across the Test? And up to double figures?

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Yeah, seven or eight at least? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (00:32):
And too many? Yeah, too many?

Speaker 1 (00:34):
And just control the controllables?

Speaker 2 (00:36):
Eight, yes, my thing. And not to fall back on cliches,
but catches, you know, they don't win matches, but they
certainly help your win matches. And we shouldn't have got
ourselves into the position that we did because we should
have held our catches and England shouldn't have got as
many runs as they did. Having said that, you can
only do you know now what's in front of you.
So as we look ahead to the second Test, if
we're forward looking, about this and to what can change.

(00:59):
I don't think they'll have as bad a Test in
the field as they just did. You know, it doesn't
seem to me as though. Well I could be wrong
here and people might have a different view, but I
don't think you can get to a bad run of
form in the field. You can with the bat, but
they can as a bowl up, but can you as
a field.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
Well, you know what, I just turn my mind back
to that Sri Lanka Test series and they did the
same thing on a couple of days. They're not It
wasn't quite as bad as with England, but they dropped
that they were uncharacteristically bad in the field, and that
was always the thing that we had right. India can
choose from a billion players. New Zealand could only choose
from five million. But you knew that we were going
to be really good, keen, well practiced fielders.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
Yep. So let's hope we see that again at the
basin starting from Friday, and that it goes goes through
the fourth or fifth day. Other changes. Look, I think
they'll probably play Mitchell Santner at the basin. He's been
brought into the squad. I'm not sure you have them there,
everyone play them. So that means that one of Nathan Smith,
Matt Henry, Tim Soury, All willow' rourke drops out. Look,
it's not gonna be Henry. He's our best bowl o

(02:00):
rocks have fastest. I'd keep him. So I reckon it
comes down to a choice between your most experienced seema
and your least experienced seema. And I wonder whether they
might go Nathan Smith. You know, I reckon they might
pick me.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
If they did, though they're bringing back for Hamilton.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
The correct test which one song and all that, and
that's the right thing to do.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
I think so too. So I was there of course
see Aukland FC. I was there in the rains rain
FC pick up win five from five. I mean it is,
it is remarkable. I mean that. I know there's a
long way to come in the A League season, but
we are top of the league. We are top of
the league.

Speaker 2 (02:35):
I can't wait to see you there on Saturday for
the derby. Yeah, absolutely monumental. Look, you can't the table
doesn't lie. Jack played five one five, haven't let a
goal on? Yes, no one expected this, but the crowds, Yeah,
there have been but the crowds. I mean thirteen thousand
in the rain. A lot of the other teams over
in Australia don't get out on a good day. So
the crowd support. You have to hand it to to Aalkland,

(02:58):
the FC, the football club and you and it's many
thousands of supporters who have turned up to watch them. Yeah,
you know they're doing brilliantly.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
I got to say, you know, I'm not doing it
out of charity, like it is just such a great
experience and a great family experience being there, like to
go Media Stadium. You know they have all the stuff
turned on for the kids. You know, they've got the
big giant blow up bouncy castle slide thing going down
the bank. I think it was for a little mini
chocolate chip cookie and a cart and of milk for

(03:27):
the kids. It was a dollar, which is fantastic. Can't
argue with that value. So I mean it's such a
good experience. The atmosphere is fantastic. And after five this
evening we're going to be catching up with Nick Becker,
the CEO of aucand DEFC, because it turns out that
when you are five from five and your debut season
in the a league, you sell a whole lot of jumpers,
so we're going to talk to them about the flowing

(03:47):
effects with that and catch you again this evening. Thank you, pinting.
Jason Pine with us from seven o'clock tonight on News Talks.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
He'd be for more from Heather Duplessy Allen Drive. Listen
live to News Talks he'd be from four pm weekd
or follow the podcast on iHeartRadio.
