D'Arcy Waldegrave: Sportstalk host on the horse that sold for $2.4 million at Karaka auction

It was an emotional scene at Karaka yesterday after the regally-bred full-sister to glamour mare Orchestral was sold for $2.4 million.

After Orchestral was sold on Saturday, there was plenty of interest in her Savabeel full-sister (Lot 345), who was being offered through Haunui Farm’s draft at Karaka.

Sportstalk host D'Arcy Waldegrave explains further.

Boy, have we been hit with some sky stories on

Really well that makes sense, I mean, given your occupation,
but that's my addiction.

That's what it is.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
And let's talk about sport then, because that'll keep you happy.
The All Black Sevens I've lost to Uruguay. This is
the first time. Should we be worried about that?

Speaker 2 (00:49):
This is We've got Sir Gordon Titchens's absolute He's a
godlike figure amongst sevens. Over that years he had that
team to comment on that tonight, we'll take some calls
on this. I'd say no, because it's Uruguay and they
probably shouldn't have won. They also beat fig only a
couple of hours beforehand, who are pretty sharp as well.
And I think the playing goods leveled somewhat. In fact,

the resources that are put into sevens, because it's much
more of a a global game and easy to buy
into without the required DNA of rugby union and so
on and so forth, that we are going to have
times where some of the lesser teams are going to
roll us and that's okay.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
Yeah, we don't need to happen, so we don't need
to freak out. We can just no.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
Really, SEVENS fan be a old on because my initial
reaction when it happened was like, wow, when are the
women playing? And the Wahni play a much better brand.
I really enjoy watching them play, and they got beaten
in the final. Something very strange about.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
You know with sevens do lots of people watch Sevens?

Speaker 2 (01:48):
Well, I don't know what the numbers are.

Speaker 1 (01:50):
It doesn't make Skylet money to you.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
Now, maybe they could ring up and let you know
make lots of money. It's an Olympic program now, so
it's got that focus years. But I think the actual
World seven series is staggering a bit as far as
the tendencies and sales as well, so they might have
to get wrapped up.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
Horses. This Ashburton Bred racehorse selling for two point four
million dollars.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
Well, it's a Philly. It's the most expensive lady that's
ever been sold at Kataka and this is based on
Orchestral his sister, who is I believe one seven out
of the fifteen Group one races she started, so she's
pretty flash wow. So they're going, oh, DNA, why, I
like what you're made out of. It's not just about
cheval so they it's a DNA based sport, isn't it really?

Really?

Speaker 2 (02:36):
And that's what they do. They find something that's good,
it's worthwhile, and then have some folds and sell them
for a lot more brilliant.
