Jason Pine: Weekend Sport host on Liam Lawson replacement, Super Rugby round 7 this weekend

Liam Lawson has officially been dropped by Red Bull. 

The Kiwi driver has been replaced by Yuki Tsunoda after qualifying out of the top 10 in the seasons races so far. 

Weekend Sport host Jason Pine joins the show, discussing why Liam Lawson wasn't given a fair shot, and Super Rugby round 7 this weekend.

Jason, you're in welcome back.

That's good, Oh, thank you. Right, you're asking about whether
it had enough races. I think the answers no. He
was put in that seat because he was a good
driver and had plenty of mental resilience. They've given him
two races on unfamiliar tracks, one in the pouring rain
in Melbourne, and you know, for me, it's just too
small a sample size to make an assessment on whether
he can drive properly or not. And we're about to

get to Japan, a track he knows really well, and
they've taken the keys off him. So really poor form
from red Ball. And you know you won't convince me
that your Kissanoda can drive a car that's set up
for Max, for staff and any better than Leam Lawson.
Can I stand to be corrected? He might prove me
wrong in Japan next week, but yeah, really poor poor
form from red Ball for me.

Is it a short term decision? Do you think? Like
are they thinking about the long term? Because he's the
whole issues were the Honda and the car and their
relationship with red Ball going forward?

Yeah, I mean who knows it. Look that's the case.
Why didn't they put Sanoda in there from the start.
They were so worried about that. Look, they can't just
chop and change and say, okay, well can you get
a couple? Then were going to bring Liam back in
and then we'll chop and change in and out. They
have to make a decision one way or the other.
And maybe that's what this is. And Liam will drive
in the racing balls car for the rest of the

season and hopefully do very well. But yeah, I just
think is very short sighted. It's another example of the
instant gratification kind of mindset that exists an elite levels fort.
Nobody's got any patients anymore. You know, I can't see
past the enner next week, so unfortunately Liam Lawson is
the victim of that at this time.

The casualty Round seven of SF Rugby this weekend. Any
upsets coming you reckon?

Speaker 2 (01:42):
Well, I don't think the Hurricanes will lose to the
war a Task tonight, even though the war Tas are
in better form. The warrit Tots haven't met the Hurricanes
for ten years. Don't see that changing in Wellington tonight.
I wouldn't imagine the Highlanders will beat the Brumbies later
on and I really can't see more in the Pacifica
getting up over the Crusaders, although I think most people
outside of christ You would like to see it. So,

you know, it all seems to go pretty much to
form across this weekend. But if the first six rounds
of Channa's anything, it's that upsets can happen. So let's
keep our fingers crossed from one to PACIFICA to beat
the Crusaders on on Saturday night.
