Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's tear of time, twelve minutes away from seven. Let's
go to Devin Gray are UK correspondent Gavin Good evening
to you hither.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Now.

Speaker 1 (00:08):
What has vonder Lyine been saying about the EU and
what they're going to do with the tariffs.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Well, she's been saying this is obviously a major blow
to the world economy. She's held a press conference saying
that the tax imports will see an uncertainty spiralist the
phrase she's used causing die consequences for millions of people
around the world. So pretty much trotting out the line
which we've heard from others. But the negotiations starting proper
next week, with the different EU member states beginning to

(00:36):
contribute to how they think that the block should react,
and Italy saying the decision has been wrong, wants to
work towards preventing a trade deal. The Spanish Pedro Sanchez
says Spain will continue to be committed to an open world.
Very devastating this for Ireland, big big export market to
the United States, representing a very large portion of its exports.

(00:59):
They say, deeply regrettable, benefiting no one. It's the French
President Emmanuel Mike Cron and his organizations and representatives who
are perhaps drumming beating the drum the loudest now for
imposing big tariffs back on America, and Poland's leader Donald
Tusk saying that the tariff could cost his country more

(01:21):
than ten billion zlotti, which roughly works out at four
and a half billion New Zealand dollars. So lots of
people getting pretty agitated about this. The stock market's still
in the state of flux and obviously about to open
UK and Europe time as we speak.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
And Gavin Hungary is withdrawing from the International Criminal Court
because they've got a visitor in town.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
Yes, that's right. So almost immediately as Benjamin Netta, yahoo
Israeli Prime minister, had an ICC and International Criminal Court
arrest warrant issued for him, Hungary welcomed him for a
state visit to their country. Now we now know that
Netanyahu is in Hungary for this state visit, and just

(02:07):
hours into that state visit, Victor Alban, the Prime Minister
of Hungary, announced that his country was going to withdraw
from the International Criminal Court. They're one of the founding
members and the withdrawal in itself doesn't issue any problems
for the ICC, but describing their reasoning, saying that the

(02:27):
ICC had become a political court and that the decision
to issue an arrest warrant against the Israeli leader clearly
pointed and showed evidence that this may actually mean one
or two of the other one hundred and twenty five
member states across the world think of the same and
may also withdraw as well. Of course, America, Russia, China,

(02:49):
North Korea are the nations that are not part of
the ICC. But this idea suddenly that some parts of
Europe may also withdraw is very interesting, including incidentally Germany.
It said that they would arrest the Israeli leader if
he set foot in their country, and then others saying
a bit later Germany included that they would not detain

(03:11):
him if he visited. So this does seem to be
an issue that's very, very divisive within Europe and the
rest of the world.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
Yeah, it certainly sounds like Gevin appreciate your time. Thank
you very much, Gavin Granny are UK correspondent.
