Jason Pine: Sportstalk host on the Warriors' loss to the Storm in Melbourne

Warriors co-captain Mitch Barnett feels senior squad members let the team down in their heavy NRL defeat to Melbourne. 

Their winless run against the Storm stretched to 17 games after the 42-14 drubbing at AAMI Park.

Sportstalk host Jason Pine explains further.

I did? Yeah, I was. I was glued to it. Well,
I mean, incredible drama and in many ways, I think
it's a very popular win for Rory McElroy. He seems
to have wanted this for a long time. The emotion
when he finally sunk that part on the playoff hole
was pretty palpable, wasn't it. And look, these guys earned
millions and millions of dollars, but clearly it still means

something emotionally to him. The one he hadn't won the
green jacket they all want to wear. Only six guys
have ever won all four of the of the majors,
which is a very low number really and he joins them,
so yeah, I was happy for him. I think it
was a popular went all round.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
Really, it was something we're all looking forward to. Now.
What is going on with Warriors? So is it the
fact that every time we go up is it the
Melbourne Storm? We just can't we can't seem to beat them.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
I don't know that I will ever see the Warriors
beat the Melbourne Storm in my lifetime. Now. It just
seems as though there is a curse at play here
and we will never again beat them. Seventeen straight losses
to the Melbourne Storm. And look I tuned in, you know,
yesterday afternoon. I got home at finish my radio show,
got home at four o'clock. All right, this is I'm
looking forward to this. I feel optimistic, I feel positive.

And by halftime they were thirty six nil behind. It
was just another incredible aim I mean, really, they just
Melbourne are good. Don't get me wrong here. The Melbourne
are a good team. They are by far the best
team in the NRL this season, you know, on the
evidence of the first six weeks. But I mean second
half was better but from the Warriors. But they were

just so far off the pace in the first half.
So yeah, big game this coming. We came back home,
go media against the Broncos Saturday night. They're going pretty
well as well, so let's see if they can bounce
back from another loss to Melbourne.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
Listen, Piney, I've obviously been away for a little while,
so I've been watching the Liam Lawson things, you know
from a far Give me your take on it. Have
we given up? Is it just is as hopeless?

Speaker 2 (02:22):
No? No, no, I hope. I think we need to
accept that he is going to finish in the teens
most of the time. I don't think we should expect
him to get into the points now that he's dropped
down to the Racing Balls team. When he was in
Red Bull, the cars faster. If he could have come
to grips with it, which he couldn't, he would have
been up on the points. Racing balls don't pick up
a lot of points, They don't get a lot of
play things. So look, I think he has to try
and beat Hadga his teammate, more often than not, and

just continue to develop as a driver. But to expect
him to pick up points regularly I think is probably
drawing a very long bow given the car he's in.
