D'Arcy Waldegrave: Sportstalk host on Paul Temple's departure from the Phoenix women's side

The departing head coach of the Wellington Phoenix women's footballers concedes he's unsure what's next.

Paul Temple has not been offered a contract renewal and will wind up with his side's final game of the season against Western United on Sunday.

Sportstalk host D'Arcy Waldegrave explains further.

Smart Stadium, isn't it.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
Yeah? But Mount Smart Stadium, with all due respect, is
in the middle of an industrial hellscape and it's falling apart. Yeah.
It needs a whole lot of investment and it's not again,
I think it means extend ily. It'll cut the lunch
too much of go Media Stadium because it's not a
big stadium they're putting up, is it?

Well, it's what was it? It was two thousand? Was
fifteen thousand capacity?

Speaker 2 (00:56):
What's Mount yeah?

Speaker 1 (00:58):
Twenty five?

Speaker 2 (00:59):
Oh yeah, so maybe they expand it. I'm not sure.
Where it sits. But I think for a trophy, as
he said he's a very good spokesperson.

Is how often is Mount Smart actually full full fulfild capacity?
Would you not be better off.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
Having Last year it worked for the Warriors, Yeah, it
was only what you know, half there was only home.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
Would you be better off having a fifteen thousand seater
stadium always full than Mount Smart which is some of
the time full. The question is just whether the punters
who like the rugby league would want to go to
Western Springs. I imagine it would be actually fine. It's
really easy to get to. It's on a motorway, yes.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
But also parking is at a premium. It's not the
easiest place to Actually you've to take public trainsport. Don't
fancy digging in another hole from the rail links.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
I mean the train that's going around around Auckland, the
one that we're building a tunnel and it'll pop up
some spring. Hey, why is the Wellington Phoenix women's coach
acted because.

To your contra into contract? Did he want anything that
he get into any finals?

I think the next question is how does John Carlos

It's not a sabbatical.

Well, what's a sabbatical? What is a sabbata? Ppabetic was
a rest from your workplace. It's a rest from what
you do. It's too to travel to broaden your whole rizon.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
Is he going to do? Yeah, but that's he's just
traveling in the UK.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
But that's he's going over there to play rugby. It's
not a sabbatic. He's doing the same filming a pedant. No, No,
he's doing this thing. What I should say? Guess what?
I only going to pay me a whole lod of
money to go and play and lens to so I'm
going leave. Well, you want to know what to do?
It would be nice.

Well, letting go.

He's not letting reco go make some dollars so he
can keep playing here for cheap.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
Well, I don't know if he will. He goes away
and he comes back and there's a whole on midfielder's
coming out. I does he even get his place. It's
a big punt. But I'm just saying it's not a
rest You're not changing anything. You're just moving your same
job to the other side of the world.

You're still gonna get smashed chasing the dollars by rugby players.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
So you're not resting anything. You're just getting beat and
you'll get beaten up further over there, won't he thank you?
