Christchurch is set to host one of Super Rugby's biggest events, locking in the first big sporting match for the city's new stadium.

The new Te Kaha stadium will host Super Rugby's 'Super Round' across Anzac weekend next season - one week after the venue has its grand opening.

Venues Ōtautahi chief executive Caroline Harvie-Teare says they've been waiting 15 years for this stadium and they're excited to crack on.

"We're confident, we're going to have plenty of time to have a really good hand-over to test the venue."

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Heah, I was listening to Hipkins and it just made

(00:01):
me think perhaps we should give Chloe a chance because
it can't be any worse. Why not, We're at that
level eighteen past five. Now, Christ Judge's new stadium is
going to host a whole weekend of Super Rugby games
shortly after it opens next year. Super Rugby Pacific has
just announced that Ta Kaha the Stadium is going to
host next year's Super Round, where all the matches are
played at one venue, and this is going to happen
in late April. Venues Autotahi is in charge of running

(00:25):
the stadium, and the CEO, Caroline Harvey Tear joins us. Now, Hey, Caroline, evening, Henna,
how are you? I'm well, thank you, but I'm stressed
out for you guys? Are you cutting it a bit
fine between getting the keys to the stadium and then
hosting the big event?

Speaker 2 (00:38):
It's ambitious, that's for sure, but no, we're confident we're
going to have plenty of time to give a really
good handover test the venue. And why not. We've been
waiting fifteen years for this stadium, so let's crack on.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
When are they giving you the keys?

Speaker 2 (00:54):
Practical completion is the twentieth of April, so five days before.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
The five days Caroline, are you sure about this? Nobody
in no builder ever has finished something on time with
five days to spare, so you can have a house warming.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
Oh look, we're trekking beautifully. We're not worried about there
in twentieth of April. That've been amazing. Look and for
us and our team, we're running five wicked busy venues now,
so we're ready to go.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
Okay, how much are you paying to get the super
round there?

Speaker 2 (01:23):
Oh that's not a question for me, that's a question
for the city. So no, I'm not able to talk
about that.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
So all right, where are you planting the grass and
growing it? Because we've been obsessed with it on the
show because it's a secret. Can you tell us?

Speaker 2 (01:36):
No, it's top secret. I've not been there either. I've
seen it. It's growing beautifully.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
I'm not photos.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
I've seen photos, yeap, and it's looking glorious.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
Okay, all right. Does there need to be a permanent
train station on the corner of Moorhouse in Colombo?

Speaker 2 (01:52):
Oh? Look, I really like the idea, you know, making
it easy and safe for people to get into the city.
It's a central city. Venue parking is pretty limited, so
changing the way that we get to venue is going
to be a bit of a challenge to actially.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
Don't you think that it's an absolute must have. You've
got to have the public transport right there.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
Yeah, I think it's a belting idea, absolutely brilliant.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
Hey, Caroline, best of luck with it. So I'm stoked
you guys are going to have a great, great week
in a rugger. There, there's Caroline Harvey Tear, whose Venus
Auto Tahi chief executive. For more from Heather Duplessy Allen Drive,
