Vicki Pratt: Whangamōmona Hotel owner on the paranormal investigators investigating the establishment

A group of paranormal investigators are set to look for ghosts at the historic Whangamōmona Hotel.

Paranormal Researchers NZ will send team members to spend two nights at the hotel to uncover the building's secrets, as three ghosts are rumoured to be haunting it.

Whangamōmona Hotel owner Vicki Pratt is happy to let them investigate - and she's heard former residents share their paranormal experiences. 

"I've always suspected something, but I'm not 100 percent sure."

Speaker 1 (00:02):
Yeah, they think I've got a ghost at the Funer
Mormurna Hotel. Well, they actually think they may have three,
and so they've got the paranormal researchers and to stay
a couple of nights and confirm whether this is the
case or not. Vicky Pratt is the hotel owner. High VICKI, Hi,
how are you well?

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Thank you? Are you having a bit of fun here?
Or do you really think there are ghosts?

Speaker 3 (00:21):
Oh? You know twofold Toofold always suspected something, but not
one hundred percent sure.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
Yeah, what makes you think there might be ghosts?

Speaker 3 (00:32):
There's one? I think there's three ghosts. Well, we've been
told by different people that there are definitely ghosts in here.
We had a portraits painted when we first came into
the hotel about eleven years ago, and it was of
a gentleman. And when the portrait was finished, it was
sitting in the bning room and a woman said to

(00:52):
me after breakfast, he said, did you know that that
gentleman just got out of that portraits? He's one of
your ghosts, but he's friendly. His name's Joe. And then
other people at different times have just said things like, oh,
there was a lady wandering down the hall up stairs
last night, but she was friendly.

Speaker 1 (01:13):
Oh now the portrait is that the chap Who is
that the living le Van Darlski?

Speaker 2 (01:20):
Is that one?

Speaker 3 (01:20):
Joseph Love and dusky Polish descent?

Speaker 2 (01:23):
Why was he holding your hotel? Did he die there
or something?

Speaker 3 (01:27):
No, he was of illegitimate booth back in the day
and his mother sister brought him up because it wasn't
the thing to do then. Oh yeah, and he lived
out here from the time he was about eighteen and
never married, but was a really Everyone enjoyed him. It
was a really good bloke and he looked after the

(01:48):
roads because in those days they lived in little huts
and you needed to get through, and they were the
ones that kept the road open for the horses and
later on the cart.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
What kind of proof of these people are going to find, Like,
how are they going to prove to you that there
are ghosts?

Speaker 2 (02:03):
What have they got? What's the equipment?

Speaker 3 (02:05):
Good question? I don't know that yet. To me, that
is scientific side of things. And then I guess other
people just see things or maybe feel things. I'm not
one hundred percent sure. I'm open to whatever happens.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
If Vicky, they established that there are ghosts. Are you
going to sell up and move on or are you
just going to hang out there with the ghosts?

Speaker 3 (02:26):
Funny you should say that she's on the market, so
whoever wants it can have the ghosts too, because they're nice.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
Vicky, thank you. I appreciate it. She's on the market.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
So if you've got to spare whatever to buy, I
don't know to buy a hotel on Funger Mormurna with
three ghosts, So you go.
