The White House is staying firm the President had no involvement in wrongdoing, with the fresh release of emails written by deceased sex offender and child sex procurer Jeffrey Epstein.

House Oversight Committee Democrats have released a 2011 email saying Donald Trump spent hours at Epstein's house with a victim.

Another email calls Trump 'the dog that hasn't barked'  - and say he told Epstein's associate Ghislaine Maxwell to 'stop'.

Reuters political correspondent Bo Erickson says there's a lack of context within these emails.

"It's not clear what they are really talking about, so the White House is saying this is a political stunt. But the Democrats ae moving forward on another procedural process as well."

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Now, the longest shutdown in United States history is over.
Congress's voted to end it. Trump assigned the paperwork. But
Trump's got a new problem. Emails have been released proving
he is in the Epstein files. Bo Ericsson as rout
as US politics correspondent high Bo. Hello, Now what we've
seen in these emails doesn't look particularly incriminating for Trump, doesn't.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
So there were a lot of emails released today by Democrats,
and that is important to note because it is a
political act of releasing these emails. It is from the
opposing party of President Trump. He's with the Republicans. These
are from the Democrats. And so when we are looking
through some of these emails today, there are some, you know,
maybe more juicier tidbits. But it's important to note that

(00:44):
there is a lack of contact with a lot of
these emails. Or it's not immediately clear what Epstein or
Glene Maxwell, his girlfriend who is now serving a twenty
year prison sentence trying to facilitate these sex crimes. It's
not really clear what they are talking about. So the
White House is saying that this is a political stunt,

(01:04):
but the Democrats are moving forward on another procedural process
as well.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
So Bo, probably the most incriminating thing is the email
that said redacted persons spent hours at my house with
him being Donald Trump, and that would be Virginia Giuffry apparently.
But Virginia Giuffray has herself said Donald Trump did nothing wrong.
So even the most incriminating thing is not particularly incriminating, is.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
It, Yes, And that is what Republicans are really latching
on to today. This story definitely has gotten a lot
of tension in the United States. We have members of
Congress who are just wrapped with going after this subject.
But it is also not new that President Trump knew

(01:48):
Jeffrey Epstein. That has been out in the ether. What
is new is this kind of drip drip drip of
just some of these emails. You know, there also is
a question about some type of credit here. This is
Epstein and some of these emails, seeing some pretty gross things,
trying to almost rationalize some of his crimes. And you know,

(02:08):
there is another person involved in these emails and an American
author whose work has really been questioned by an independent
journalist for years.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
Oh, you'll be talking with Michael Wolf. Okay, Bo, listen,
thanks very much appreciated bo ericson Rutter's US Political Correspondent.

Every Wednesday on Medal of Honor, uncover what their experiences tell us about the nature of sacrifice, why people put their lives in danger for others, and what happens after you’ve become a hero.
