Post Primary Teachers' Association (PPTA) members voted to accept the Governments recent pay offer, officially bringing an end to the striking... for now.

The settlement includes a 4.6 percent pay increase over two years, and increased allowances for teachers who have management roles or other special responsibilities.

PPTA president Chris Abercrombie told Heather du Plessis-Allan, "we're pleased that we're going to be able to start the new year in a settled environment."

president Chris Abercrombie.

Speaker 2 (00:08):

Speaker 1 (00:11):
I'm well, thank you? You happy with the deal.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
We're pleased that we're going to be able to start
the new year in a settled environment. So that's that's
a that's a good thing.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
Am I right in thinking you've managed to secure the
ability to continue to take teachers only days during term time.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Uh, well, there's still there's always existed because it's the
minister that the side's teacher any days. But yeah, so
there's no changes for the callback provisions that was in
this later settlement.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
Have you lost some ability to claim expenses.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
Though, are yes? So during if a teacher if a
callback days during a normal term time day, then yeah,
you won't be able to claim expenses.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
So but you are able to do it if it's
during holidays presumably, yes, claim those expenses.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
Yeah. So yeah, when when when the schools, when the
school is closed for instruction, yes, so.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
Chris, In case it should incentivize secondary teachers to actually
take those teacher only days, the professional development during during
holiday time.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
Well, it's up to schools to decide that. It's not
the teachers. Don't decide to do teacher any days in
term time. It's a minister decision or a school decision
when to do those. It's not individual teachers deciding that
good stuff.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
How long before we start getting another round of this stuff?

Speaker 2 (01:23):
So the our Colectuve agreement expires at the end of
twenty twenty seven, so we'll be starting our process of
claims negotiations about mid twenty twenty seven.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
Brilliant. Hey, thank you very much, Chris appreciated. Chris abercrombi
