Wine: Allan Scott Cecilia Brut, Marlborough $24

Why I chose it:

- I like it very much, especially the price.
- It’s a perfect “stand-by” wine in case of unexpected visitors.
- It is a real crowd-pleaser.
- A wine for all seasons.
- I haven’t chosen a sparkling wine for while.

What does it taste like?

- A blend of pinot noir and chardonnay with a creamy, yeast-infused palate that is both fresh and mellow with restrained complexity. A perfect balance of subtle sweetness and mouth-watering acidity.

Why it’s a bargain:

- Bottle-fermented sparkling wine is expensive to make, you won’t find too many good examples under $25.

Where can you buy it?

- Whisky and More, Waikato $20.99  -Big Barrel stores $less than $23
- Glengarry, Auckland $22.99

Food match?

-Canapes, especially seafood, particularly oysters. It doesn’t need the complication of food.

Will it keep?

- Good for a few years although it isn’t vintage-dated. Drink it up.

Speaker 1 (00:07):
You're listening to the Saturday Morning with Jack Tame podcast
from News Talks. It's time to catch up with our
master of Wine, Bob Campbell for his best buy this week,
and he has chosen an Alan Scott Cecerely a Brute
from Marlborough for twenty four dollars. So why did you
pick this, Bob?

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Well, I haven't chosen a starkling wine in a while,
so I thought we were overdue for a good, sticky
busy as well, I should say I also like it
very much, especially at that price, so that's a motive.
It's a perfect stand by wine. Sparkling wine is a

(00:46):
perfect stand by wine in case of unexpected visitors. And
with the sort of weather we're having at the moment,
expect visitors. I mean people should want to get out
and get to get that gorgeous summer weather in the winter. Yeah.

(01:06):
It's also a real crowd pleaser. Who doesn't like sparking wine.
I mean it's so you're on a winner there. And
as I say, it's a wine for all seasons. It's
just just the perfect wine for the for the moment.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
And so what does it taste like?

Speaker 2 (01:25):
Well, it's a blend of pinot noir and chardney and
it's got a really creamy yeast and fused pellette that's
both fresh and mellow. It's sort of it's got a
bit of maturity, but it's but it's got freshness as well,
which I like. It's it's it's got a perfect balance

(01:46):
of sort of subtle sweetness you're hardly aware of it,
and mouth watering acidity that that's very refreshing. It really
really gives the wine a terrific lift.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
And you reckon it's pretty good value. Why is it
such a good bargain?

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Well, bottles flamented sparkling wine is extensive to make. You
don't find too many good examples under twenty five dollars,
and this this is a standout in that category. So
it's just a winner.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
Yeah, yeah, where can you pick it up?

Speaker 3 (02:19):
Well?

Speaker 2 (02:20):
I found the best price I found was from Whiskey
and More in the White Kaddow and it was twenty
dollars ninety nine. Big barrel stores I found a few
were carrying it at less than twenty three dollars. Glengary
in Auckland. Twenty two ninety nine is a good price.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
So yeah, and we would you what would you met
your web Well.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
Canna Pays is a knee jerk sort of choice for
sparkling wine, especially seafood, particularly oysters. I love oysters and
not everybody does.

Speaker 3 (02:55):
Of course, and it also like other good Metho champnoires,
it doesn't need the complication of food, so it's.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
Quite one and what it keep do?

Speaker 2 (03:07):
You think it's good for a few years, But the
problem is that isn't vintage dated at most aren't, and
so you never know all it is right, So my
advice is drawnk it up and enjoy it very good.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
Thanks Bob, appreciate your time. That's our master of Wine.
