BOB’S BEST BUYS

Wine: Balvonie Prosecco, Marlborough $34.59

Why I chose it:

  • It is the only Kiwi Prosecco I know of
  • Prosecco may be the world’s most popular sparkling wine
  • 100% Glera
  • A popular style, everyone loves Prosecco
  • A perfect summer wine
  • Have a Prosecco tasting and compare it with Australian and Italian Prosecco

What does it taste like?

An attractive, creamy sparkling wine with an appealing mellow freshness and restrained mousse. An initial marmite-like yeastiness faded quickly leaving a clean, mouth-cleansing sensation in its place. It could easily be mistaken for an Italian Prosecco.

Why it’s a bargain:

It’s not cheap but it is good and certainly worth the price.

Where can you buy it?

On the Balvonie website.

Food Match:

It's versatile, good with most seafood.

Will it Keep?

Drink up.

Our Master of Wine. Bob Campbell has chosen a Balvoni
Prosecco from Marlborough for thirty four fifty nine as his
best buy for us this week, and he's with us
this morning, Count.

Speaker 3 (00:21):
Of Bob Cura Jack, So why.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Did you chose the Why did you choose the Balvoni?

Speaker 3 (00:27):
Well, Prosecco is a really interesting grape variety. It's an
Italian sparkling wine produced in nine provinces in the northeast
of Italy. It's made from the prosecco grape, which was
renamed Glea g l Era in two thousand and nine

(00:48):
by the Italians really to stop the rest of the
world from using the sensationally successful brand Prosecco. Glera's also
grown in other countries, including New Zealand and Australia. New
Zealand producers of which I only know of one at
the moment, which is the Balvoni Prosecco, certainly the only

(01:11):
one in Marlborough. They agreed to stop using the term
prosecco in four years time and then it'll become glarer,
so I thought, why not have Is it an opportune
time to have a prosecco party and you can serve

(01:31):
Italian at any Italian prosecco with an Australian prosecco. I
recommend Brown Brothers, and of course the Balvoni Prosecco from
God's Own. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
Yeah, it's a really sort of summary wine, isn't it proscco?
What does it taste like?

Speaker 3 (01:48):
Well, really attractive, sort of creamy, sparkling wine with an
appealing mellow sort of freshness and restrained moose. That's the bubble.
It doesn't. It's not as bubbly as champagne, but I
think it's all the better for it. It's less it's
less serious. It has an initial sort of I got

(02:11):
us like a marmite type yeastiness, but that faded quickly
and a nice mouth cleansing sensation in its place. It
could easily be mistaken for an Italian prosecco. I'm I'm
convinced of that.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
And it's to have a thirty four dollars. It's not cheap,
but you reckon, it's really good and very much worth
the price, So we can you pick it.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
Up Bob, Well, you'll have to go direct to the
Balvoni for that. They are a wine maker, grapeguarer and Marlborough.
And just check out the Balvoni website which I just
haven't committed to memory.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
I think it's Balvony dot in z b a l
v o n Ie dot in z. But we'll make
sure we put that on the News Talks he'd b
website as well so people can find it. The Yeah,
what would you menchine with.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
Bob, Well, it's a versatile when I think it would
go with most seafood, but it doesn't need the complication
of food. I think you can just just really enjoy
it for its own pleasures.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
Yeah, and like you say, maybe as part of a
prosecco party perhaps, Hey, thank you so much, Bob. So
he's chosen a Balvoni Proscco from Marlborough as his best
buy for this week. Like I say, all of the
details on the News Talks he'db website for
