(00:21):
got prizes to give away this hour, so stick around
eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox. We got some
Iron Mike trivia. He had a big announcement over the weekend,
so we'll discuss that a little bit, plus Dan Hurley's
offer from the Lakers. It's a conversation about family. Thank
you for being part of ours, the Fox Sports Radio Nation.

(00:42):
Again at Covino and Rich. You make a live bet
right now that the MAVs win the finals plus five
point fifty. What do you think it's over Celtic's minus
eight hundred to win the NBA Finals.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
I mean it's not over till the Maps lose at home.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
Yeah, and that might happen true Wednesday, Game one. Right,
let's start rocking out, get into this week. Thank you
again for hanging out with us at Covino and Rich.
Hope you had a Celtics sort of weekend. Now, Gioff
hit us up says, I'm a big Caitlyn Clark fan,
would really like to see her play in the Olympics.
But she's probably not a top twelve US player right now,
so it's understandable why she's left off the team. It's

(01:18):
about popularity, dude. It's about who people like. It's about
the growth of the sport. Dude. Was Hulk Hogan one
of the best wrestlers, Dude, absolutely not. He was terrible,
but people liked him for whatever reason. So you know
what they said, Hey, let's throw it all on this guy.
He's the guy, and he's going to bring our sport
of entertainment. It's going to bring it out there to

(01:39):
the masses. Because is he the best? No, but everybody
likes him. That's what they're like failing on here. Yeah,
when no one's saying that she's the best or the
top twelve, but she should be there for the simple
reason of growing the sport, which is what they've complained
about for the past thirty years plus.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
Hulk Cogan had the best ice cream bar, Yes.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
He did say cartoon dude, pick anything. It's about what's popular.
It's like, why would you turn away from that? It's
not good business. It's like saying it's like the world
of boxing saying, yeah, we don't really like what Jake
Paul's doing right now. It's like, why he's bringing more
eyes on boxing which was dying lean into it. It

(02:20):
makes no sense. So Jeff, I think it's I appreciate
the feedback, and I don't want to deter anybody from
chiming in. We try to include everybody, even if we
disagree with your wrong opinion. But it's a very shortsighted
way to think, like, oh, well, she's not the best,
so I get it. How about no, how about you
make room for her because she's the most popular and

(02:40):
it's a business, and it's not like she's a slouch.
She's playing pretty great. You know, the whole Kulgan example
is actually great because thank you, I recently watched her.
I'm seeing a clip on social media of when he
thought Andre the Giant brother in WrestleMania three Andrea the Giant.

(03:01):
This is like a sort of not know known fact
he could hardly move at that stage of his career.
That was the worst match of all time. But you know,
what we remember that ninety something thousand people in the
Pontiac Silverdome Brother Brother watched Hulk Hogan slam Andre the Giant.

(03:22):
It was arguably like one of the worst matches ever,
but it was popular and goes down in history. Dude,
everybody in the wrestling game, Brother knows that Hulk Hogan
can't wrestle the way a Shawn Michaels could or even
a Rick Flair could. Like, these guys were great, right,
but for whatever reason, he was popular and people identified
with him and they liked him. And you know, why

(03:43):
would you hold that against Caitlin Clark. There's no really,
no real way to figure out their blueprint as to
why people gravitate towards somebody. I like them to understand popularities.
It is foolish. It will be like us being upset
that there may be pop popular radio show or podcast
that we think is awful, but if it has millions

(04:05):
of views and listens, and what are you gonna do?
It is what it is like?

Speaker 3 (04:08):
What it is?

Speaker 1 (04:09):
You like you're fighting in an unfightable cause. Well, anyway,
let's move on. We're broadcasting live from the tire I
Rack dot Com Studio TI rack dot com will help
you get there, brother, an unmatched selection, fast free shipping.
Free road has a protection over ten thousand recommended installers.
Tire rack dot com the way tire buying should be.
So strap up this France Harper. You see that by

(04:31):
the way, that uh hul Cogan was very upset when
he did twenty three in May and he realized that
he wasn't really everyone's brother. I heard that.

Speaker 4 (04:37):
Yes, I felt bad for him, brother, right or like
that time he went on Mary Povic, if you are
not you are.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
Not brother, Do not play that one more time. So
I'll buy that for a dollar.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
We saw you are not the brother. We saw a
great series in London over the weekend. Very cool to see.
Baseball is an international sport, but you know English people
especially lean into cricket and soccer and things like that.
But they were all fired up and Bryce Harper was

(05:13):
loving it. Your boy Pete A. Lonzo was saying the
only downside was that they couldn't stay longer and really
take it in because they had such a great experience.
But Bryce Harper said that the one thing he noticed
was a lot of these people were in the moment
and at the pub and buddy chummy with their friends
and family. If you've ever been to London or Ireland
or any you know that part of the world, it's

(05:36):
hard to it's hard to think that the younger generation
isn't buried in their phones, but there is hard there's
more of a buddy chummy, camaraderie, cool pub scene that
maybe we lack a little bit here. I don't know.
I think Bryce Harper, here's my theory. Bryce Harper witnessed
an awesome moment, but it doesn't depict the entire United Kingdom.

(05:58):
I think he saw a moment people having a great
time and they were disconnected enjoying the moment, and it
made him think, like, yeah, that's what living really is.
I don't think it's any different. I mean, we could
be wrong on that. We could be the worst A
lot of people think we are. Maybe we are. Hey listen,
maybe our screen time averages are way higher than other nations.

(06:19):
I find that hard to believe, especially with young people.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
No, what I think is interesting though, and I'm not
downplaying traveling abroad. So Bryce Harper said, put the phone down,
disconnect and enjoy people for who they are. I don't
want to downplay traveling abroad because listen, it's a great
opportunity and you know, it's a privilege to travel the
world and see different places. And if you've been lucky
enough to go to you know, different countries, God bless you.

(06:44):
But we do make it seem like they went to
the moon. The flight to London is like the flight
to LA but it is a different world. And I know,
but what I'm saying is like artisans, you know, two
teams that are in Philly and New York went to London.
It's the same flight as going to like San Diego
or Seattle or New York or to LA. Like, it's
not that much further. So I wouldn't be surprised if

(07:05):
they do more of this in the future, because the
reality is is it It looked great, It was exciting,
you know what I'm saying, Like, it's it's not that crazy.
Gott to grow the sport. I love it. I thought
it was great, really cool. And no one's on their phone.
Everyone's just, you know, everyone's just.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
And I looked up the screen time average studies in
both countries and they're similar.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
Yeah, they had I would imagine because I don't think
it's like a from they say, teenagers in London and
you know Germany and Italy, they're on TikTok just as
much as your stupid kids exactly. I mean the answer
is more pubs, more beer, That's the answer. You need
more of that here. The social activity. I bet you this,

(07:46):
I was Sam. We're social opportunity. I bet you beer
consumption in other parts of the world, because I feel
like here in the States we're like, as much as
we're gross here and eat bed, we've transferred to Seltzer's.
And I think the rest of the world might say
be like, yeah, beer's at the Pupe. So it be
fun to take.

Speaker 4 (08:04):
I was in London about a year ago and had
plenty of plenty of pints.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
It was a good time.

Speaker 1 (08:09):
Nice sweet SuDS, mister Zadeer, Sweet SuDS. So let's talk
about a guy that made a decision that some will
question and some will understand. And it really depends on
where you are in life and what your priorities are.
And that guy is Dan mother Evan Hurley. This guy

(08:32):
has talked about wanting to become a coach in the
NBA at some point, and when you get offered by
the way, that's a big part of the story. That
fact that he wanted he an NBA coach, the fact
that he was offered six years, seventy million dollars. Genie Buss,

(08:55):
Rob Polenka, everyone rolling out the red carpet probably got
the thumbs up from Lebron if he sticks around. And
this is a big deal. Listen. I know there's a
couple jobs in the world where they say you age
the most, and I think that was the joke. Was
President of the United States and manager of the Yankees,
Like you just aged terribly and working with me, because

(09:16):
I mean, look at rich what nothing. There are certain
jobs that make you just age.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
Your geis's program directors.

Speaker 1 (09:25):
Really our producers, spot Spot's actually thirty. Rich is right.
Look at Obama at the start of his presidency. Any
president from the start to the finish, right, yeh. Look
at any Yankees manager. They go from like sweethead of
hair to fin it out completely gray. And the Lakers
with the amount of attention and the high profile players,

(09:46):
and Lebron that's a high profile gig man. That's that's
still joke. You're living in La you become all Hollywood.
You're in the scene you're the Lakers coach. But according
to what inside as they're saying, and in fact, he
said it himself. So the insider is is Dan himself.
And it's interesting because a lot of times you wonder,

(10:08):
how are these big decisions made, because these are life changers.
Danny G You don't think it was a life changer
when Cavino and I said, ya, dude, we're both gonna
leave our families on the East Coast and we're both
gonna move out to California. Spot you as well. We
all took a road trip together, we put all our
belongings in a moving van, and even though we're happy

(10:31):
and it's working out, we're on Fox Sports Radio till
this day. I still debate was that the best move
because you're moving away from your family and then they're
there's a part of me that's like, I love southern California.
I see my parents a couple times a year. I
see my siblings a couple times a year, Like is
it worth it? But we have to ask yourself, well,
how often would you see them if you were living

(10:51):
a state away. I hear you, and.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
If you guys had stayed on ESPN doing your TV show,
there was a possibility that they would have wanted to
move out to Connecticut. Dude.

Speaker 1 (11:01):
We found out a lot of the people we worked
with at the La ESPN and Los Angeles, a lot
of those people over the last year, they've done the
whole Yeah, we're relocating you to Connecticut, back to Bristol.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (11:12):
And then I'm thinking, like, what if we had still
been there and COVID didn't happen and we never got
this sweet opportunity at Fox Sports Radio, would you have
been like, Hey, I'm moving to Bristol. You know, rich
opportunities come so few and far between. It's like I've
always said, when that big wave comes, grab your surfboard.

Speaker 2 (11:30):
You've always said that, said, grabbed your surfboard. When you
say it, you do like your calling voice, which is yeah.

Speaker 1 (11:37):
Grab wave. But sometimes you don't want that wave. And
that's what it seems to be here. Because Dan Hurley
turned down again a Laker's offer to coach six years,
seventy million dollars, Like, that's not jump change, that's a
big yeah, No, I'm good.

Speaker 2 (11:53):
Almost feels like a family member is weighing down the surfboard.

Speaker 1 (11:57):
Yes, sixt year, seventy million two coach a team that's
good to coach the Lakers. He's not coaching some whack
ass team. They're really good. So that's what makes us
even more interesting. And then we find out there are
family reasons. Ask yourself all the questions involved. Let me
first talk about Andrea Hurley, the wife of Yukon Husky's

(12:21):
national title winning back to back head coach, a New
Jersey native, Gota Ghoul.

Speaker 2 (12:28):
Thought of you, and the video over the weekend went
viral of her at the Billy Joel concert.

Speaker 1 (12:32):
I wrote this down.

Speaker 2 (12:34):
You know what she's like.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
They don't serve Taylor ham in La. I can't do it.
It's a Jersey. There's no good bag gold, the pizzas
not good. Well, Andrea Hurley, I'm glad you said that, Danny,
because I actually wrote that down right here. Billy Joel.
She was at the garden. There's nothing more in New
York or New Jersey than when Billy Joel does his

(12:56):
monthly residence every so often. You like, I don't know,
Pauline nuts to put his hands up at gate d listen,
he hey, I was pretty Jersey. There's nothing more East
Coast than on occasion saying, let's go see Billy at
the garden. They probably stopped in midtown, got some pizza. Now, Andrea,
if you see my dad comb his hair in the morning,

(13:16):
you'd say, that's pretty Jersey. Yeah, no disrespect. Hey yeah,
just go my hey, dad put some product in it. Nah,
the way it drives, the way it days. Oh yeah,
it's called the passage Jack. Yeah, it's it's it's pretty Jersey.
He's in his tidy whities. It's very Jersey. Let me
just make it quick, clear, real quick. But we'll speculate.
So Andrea Hurley, the wife of Dan, is a Jersey girl.

(13:41):
To quote Dan Hurley himself, we went to Rhode Island,
which I had to drag her two Then we went
to Connecticut. Oh way, dragger, What is that three hour drive?
But that those are the sacrifices you made. Dude, you
dated a Jersey girl. Hold on, now, you dated a
Jersey girl that if we if you were still with her,
no way you would have moved to La. She was
like her family lived down the block. Family lives in

(14:03):
Rhode Island. My family lives in Jersey. Guess what. She
drives three hours every other weekend to see her family.
It's a drive. I'm just shoying. Okay, if you're not
picturing the map, it's not that big of a deal.
So to drag her away, well, I don't know a
hell of a living. That's that's that's just a nice compromise.
Dan Hurley dragged her to rd Island. He didn't drag her.

(14:23):
He goes a hell of a living he goes. And
then to Connecticut. I got her closer to Annett. You mean,
like exactly, that's all in this Tri state area, some
people want to live in the same neighborhood. Yeah, exactly.
You know what I have to say. And this is
nothing against uh Andrew Hurley here, but wow, we're talking

(14:45):
to state away all right, let me finish and then
you could dive in there, Jock Coustel. Dan Hurley said,
then I got her closer when we went to Connecticut.
I can't I can't afford a divorce right now. I
just started making money. He's saying, going to La takes
his Jersey wife three thousand miles away. And I'll tell

(15:08):
you this, I mentally battle sometimes like did I make
the right move? I live away from every childhood friend,
I have every high school, friend, family, siblings, mom, dad.
I'm in Los Angeles. They are in New York, Connecticut, Maryland.
Every one of my family is on the East Coast.

Speaker 2 (15:26):
Your college radio station which recently honored you.

Speaker 1 (15:29):
They never honor me. Syracuse hates me. You're your coffee
guy in New York City. What was his name? Hassan Hassan.
I left Hassan and everyone behind Cavino. My wife is
from Texas. Her family's all there. We live in La
love our life here, but there are times if you

(15:49):
don't think, we think like man, life would be different
if we had family nearby. So yeah, but you wonder
if he knocked, and it's knocking really strong for him,
But what's more important if he was all right? If
the option were coach of Lakers are wait, if it
was still once in a lifetime opportunity. If it was,
you can't downplay coach of the Lakers like it's some
little league team or something. But if it's coach of

(16:10):
Lakers or living a van down by the river, that's
one thing. But it's coach the Lakers or continue to
coach the college that you just want back to back
titles for, and you're also getting paid millions and millions
of dollars from Experience Man. My ex sort of put
an ultimatum. Ony, we had a TV offer in New
York City. These are like not easy jobs to come by,

(16:33):
and she's like, look, if you go to New York again,
this is gonna put a lot of pressure on our family, Like,
how would you like me to earn a living? This
is what I do. It's like Rocky Bombo. So Rocky
Bobo says, it's okay. But if I say, you're gonna
question it like you I never asked you stop being
a woman's You'll only ask me to stop being a man.
Absolutely No, you're asking me to not do what you

(16:54):
can't do. No, but it's not a fair request. You're
asking this guy, a a great provider, to not take
a once in a lifetime dream gig. I feel if
he's that willing to turn it down, his heart wasn't
really in it, or doesn't want to work with Lebron
or doesn't like the city of LA to begin with.
Because I understand you put your family first, I'm not

(17:15):
downplaying that because I'm with you.

Speaker 2 (17:16):
Rich.

Speaker 1 (17:16):
I sometimes wondered did we make the right move, But
when opportunities there, you got to answer it, and he's
betting there done that like doctor the back championships in college.

Speaker 2 (17:27):
Now Covino, unless it was just lip service. He did
comment over the weekend that the Lakers really impressed him
with the vision, the facilities, the overall pitch I thought
he was going. He said he was super impressed. And
that's why a lot of people thought the decision today
was going to go the other direction.

Speaker 1 (17:42):
I think he's honestly making the wrong decisions. Was when
I look back, I know I did what was right
for me. And that's my point, you know, and you
could say selfish or whatever, but I did do it
for my family. I did it for the legacy, the
career move, the money that we needed, all of those things.
I live once. That's my dream. I went for it.
So you could be which dream. You could be a

(18:04):
pain in the ass about it, or you could join
me for the freaking ride jump on the surfboard. But
let's ride the wave together. And that's where I find
the problem here, Like this guy gets an opportunity not
to coach some whack ass team, to coach the LA Lakers.
Old Dan, let me ask Dan Byer and Danny g
and Sam. But when I said Danny and Dan Byer,

(18:27):
did you guys have why leave your family? Bring your family?
I mean, what if what if all of a sudden
it was like, Hey, Dan Byer, there's a job at
the NFL network, or a job at ESPN or NBC
Sports or hey, Fox Sports said we want to give
you a radio and a TV show. But they Dan,
we want you to move to the East Coast. I mean,
are you just so quick to be like, this is

(18:47):
what we're doing. Honey.

Speaker 5 (18:48):
No, there'd have to be a lot of discussions, you know,
that would take place. Family wise. I just don't have
the resume that Dan Hurley does to fall back on
what he and I'm not talking money, I'm talking about
college basketball, the three peat, what he's done at Yukon,
to go back and be like, all right, that's gonna

(19:10):
be That's gonna be my move because nobody really has that,
you know, to fall back on.

Speaker 1 (19:16):
So it allows him. I think you the luxury, yeah, yeah, yeah,
if you.

Speaker 5 (19:20):
Had ninety nine percent of college coaches, and you know
in college basketball that may be little high number, but
they're all probably taking the job.

Speaker 1 (19:26):
But he has to be pretty pumped about that. I
guess fall back plan. I mean, to return to a
team that he's won back to back championships. Yeah, but again,
if his dream was to coach in the NBA and
you get that prestige of being the head coach of
the Lakers, I feel like, Yeah, he's putting his family
first and there's no shame in that. But I also

(19:47):
feel like maybe there's more to it where I mean,
we might not know the rest of the story rich,
where it is a thankless job and he doesn't want
to get that criticism of coaching Lebron and dealing with
that sort of situation. Now I'm looking on the TVs
now and everyone's talking about the wrong thing. Everyone's talking about, Oh,
the right choice. Was it more about the Lakers or Yukon?

(20:08):
They're talking about that on PTI right now. No, it's
about let's be an, It's about his wife and family
and those type of decisions. Danny. She said, how stressful
dealing with the Lakers would be. Danny G Do you
think because the expectations might not be worth making that
move when he could be the hero at Yukon? Still,
do you think Brenda, your wife is on standby if
something big were to happen.

Speaker 2 (20:28):
We actually talked about this yesterday when the Hurly report
came out about him being impressed and all that. I
asked her and she said, I would follow you anywhere
because I love you and I want things to work.
This is what you do now. Then we talked about
other family members, though, who are more stuck to the
city they live in because of kids or family, and

(20:49):
there are people like that. In fact, we joke about
Gary Ganu the Golden Bachelor, remember yeah, he had that
nationally televised wedding. Yeah, they're divorced already. Why did it
not work out?

Speaker 1 (21:00):
Because they didn't.

Speaker 2 (21:01):
Neither one wanted to move exactly because they both had
kids and grandkids where they lived, so they could not
figure out who was going to move to each other's state.

Speaker 1 (21:10):
Take politics aside, right, your political views from each state.
You're not asking someone to move to a third world country.
You're asking them to move to Los Angeles, right, So,
I mean, give me a break. I had this fight
my whole life with my ex. I'm like, I'm not
asking you to move to as my dad would say,
outer Mongolia, We're going to New York City. And it's not.

Speaker 2 (21:35):
Like the Bus family don't have private jets that they
would lend to him once in a while to go
fly to the East Coast to visitor family where some
people are so stuck where they live. Think about people
in your family who just it's so hard to get
them to even come travel to visit you, let alone
think about them moving.

Speaker 1 (21:53):
How about this, dude, would you get in the way
of your woman's dream?

Speaker 2 (21:56):
Ever?

Speaker 1 (21:57):
So, if Andrew Hurley and I don't know her personally,
she could be the greatest woman. She's from Jersey. I'm
from Jersey, so I love her just based on that.
But don't you think she should also be encouraging him
to be like, look, dude, this is your dream. I'm
not going to get in away that. I have a question.
So he has to take accountability that he just doesn't
want to go put it on her isn't fair because

(22:17):
any good person I would never want to stifle and
get in the way of my significant others dream of
whatever it is that they want. So I think I
don't think she would do that. I think there's some
lack of accountability as to why. I'm sure that is
part of the reason, but I don't feel like there's more.
But let me ask you this. Though we talked about

(22:40):
us being three thousand miles away from where you grew
up and where I grew up. And you know your
family's out here, now mine is out here. You know
your family, but your parents, your siblings. It doesn't dawn
on you that, like you know, the idea of like
what if? Andrea early and again, I don't want to
make this about her, or like I don't want to
make her I don't think it is all I know.
But I'm saying I don't want to the punching bag

(23:01):
of this conversation because she represents a lot of what
people would would prioritize, but not an family decision. What
if Andrea Hurley, But it's something you know you might
have to do. What if? Andrea Hurley says, Yeah, we
live in Connecticut. Honey, you're making tens of millions of
dollars as a coach at Yukon. You're a legendary. You
just want back to back every other weekend. We could
see Your folks are my folks in Jersey. They're getting older.

(23:23):
Our kids want to be near their grandparents. There's a
million things versus the glitzing glamour of LA. Then don't
then just say it's about you know, not wanting to
move to LA. That's sort of one of the factors.
I'm just saying, like, you know, yeah, but then don't
blame it on the on the wife.

Speaker 2 (23:40):
You have to wonder too, what his long term goals
and what his vision is, because it could be that
he's thinking, let me finish what I started here at Yukon,
let me repeat and then hopefully the nets or the
next job will open up. Colin Cowherd, who you've been
impersonating in this segment, he alluded to that over the weekend,
wait for the next job. Now, I don't think Five's
is going in soon, right, No, he said that's what

(24:03):
he would he would that's the advice he would give
to Hurley. Now there's already rumors though that the Knicks
are going to extend Thibodeau, so who knows.

Speaker 1 (24:11):
Let's say Tims gets a couple of year extension, Hurley
plays out his Yukon contract, and let's say the Knicks
just failed to get out of the first round of
the playoffs. Moving forward, and they're like, all right, a
couple of years from now, they make a change. If
he keeps it up at Yukon, this might not be
his only chance. Cavino, I it's a tough one. It
really is, because there is that balance of what's most
important career, family, and I think the biggest factor is

(24:34):
if he was Lakers or continue at your Division three
no name school. That's one thing, but it's Lakers or
continue to be the most cool coach in college basketball.
Marriages are a partnership.

Speaker 4 (24:46):
Yeah, there's two inputs, and I know one person obviously,
you know, leads the charge here and there. But you
still have to have the input of a marriage.

Speaker 2 (24:54):
Butcker says one is in the kitchen. I know.

Speaker 1 (24:56):
Yeah. Butker said, yeah, here's the bucker chime that he
goes tell Andrea to make him a sandwich and zipp it.
But said, that's that's inappropriate. The hero who saves lives.
That's inappropriate, though, I kidding, kidding, but hey, your.

Speaker 4 (25:08):
Thoughts like, it's not It's not like he lost his
job and is now looking anywhere he can go.

Speaker 1 (25:13):
When he's going to land in l A. He still
has a job. He doesn't happen. He has a great job,
defending job and they're going to bump up his pay, right,
then you know there comes that should be the story, like, hey,
I agree, then he should say, look, man, I appreciate
the offer, but I'm so happy here and I want

(25:34):
to go for the three thin.

Speaker 4 (25:36):
Speculation behind the scenes is going to sound ridiculous, but
there does come a point where you really don't need
more money.

Speaker 5 (25:44):
He's right though, Honestly, Yeah, I was going to ask
you guys, what the taxes were in Connecticut?

Speaker 2 (25:49):
Do you know?

Speaker 1 (25:49):
I have no idea that la New York. So that's
not an issue.

Speaker 4 (25:54):
And there's something too about someone's career, and I know
we have to go. But about slow burn. I feel
like we were talking about this recently. Yeah, the slow burn,
rather than like being in the spotlight burning bright, You're
gonna burn out fast, whether that means a lot of
attention is on you and you are gonna get found
out or like something will have whatever, you will burn

(26:15):
out fast. Having that slow burn, having that foundation, having
that career that stains, is much more valuable than going
for the glitz.

Speaker 1 (26:23):
We'll guess what, right. Opportunities like this don't come that often,
so keep that ying too. Your thoughts eight seven seven

Hey, we're Cavino and Rich Fox Sports Radio every day
five to seven pm Eastern. But here's the thing. We
never have enough time to get to everything we want
to get to, and that's why we have a brand
new podcast called over Promised. You see, we're having so
much fun in our two hour show. We never get
to everything, honestly, because this guy is over promising things

(28:00):
we never have time for. Yeah, you blubber list lame
in me. Well you know what it's called over promise.
You should be good at it because you've been over
promising women for years. Well, it's a Covino and Rich
after show, and we want you to be a part
of it. We're gonna be talking sports, of course, but
we're also going to talk life and relationships. And if
Rich and I are arguing about something or we didn't
have enough time, it will continue on our after show
called over Promised. Well, if you don't get enough Covino

(28:22):
and Rich, make sure you check out over promised and
also uncensored, by the way, so maybe we'll go at
it even a little harder. It's gonna be the best

join us. Listen over Promised with Cavino and Rich on

(28:48):
All right, we're giving away prizes. Who's fifty six today?

Speaker 2 (28:53):
Doctor Dre protoje from Back in the Day Doc, and
of course he wrote most of the chronic and some
classics for Dre.

Speaker 1 (29:01):
I just quoted Dre. Been there, done that, like Dan Hurley.
But he's gonna continue doing it because he has a
great and amazing fall black plan go for three, and
you know I'm getting feedback about his decision at Covino
and Rich. By the way, Covino and Rich live from
tire rack dot Com Studios, getting ready to play some
Iron Mike trivia. If you want to play eight seven

(29:22):
seven ninety nine on Fox, I say we wrapped the
show at that today a little Tyson trivia and the
show you want to do that, we could.

Speaker 2 (29:28):
Do that because I know you're not done with your
Hurley thoughts.

Speaker 1 (29:30):
Yeah, I have a couple of thoughts. We'll go to
Dan Bayern. We'll wrap the show with some Tyson trivia giveaway,
a swiggy eight seven seven, nine to nine on five.
Yet I was sleep in the blue kitchen anyway, Yeah, Mike,
I saw Mike. I don't know if he's ready for
the fight or this game, so keeps going to the
bathroom too. I wasn't throwing shade at Andrew Hurley. I'm

(29:51):
just speaking from my own experience of being put in
those situations, right. But our buddy Wes hit us up
and he said, Dan Hurley want it's no part of
that headache known as lebron And if there's something to
be said about that or just coaching with those expectations,
then that should really just be the story and say, hey,
I'm happy where I'm at. I appreciate the offer. You know,

(30:15):
all the speculation about, oh, he'd get a divorce, even
if he's joking, you know, that's not the real reasons
he's happy in Connecticut.

Speaker 2 (30:25):
Look, I don't like the Celtics. I'm a Lakers fan,
so obviously growing up in the eighties and nineties and
rooting against Larry Bird and McHale and Ange and all
those guys. Still, I know the Boston Celtics job is
a great job because of their organization, and so even
though I don't like the Celtics, I would never say,
what a crappy job, don't go to Boston. But this

(30:47):
seems like a lot of low hanging fruit where people
are taking potshots at the Lakers and Lebron because it's.

Speaker 1 (30:53):
Easy, but it is a stressful situation. I can't deny that.

Speaker 2 (30:56):
No, no doubt, But Lebron's only going to be there
for a few more seasons.

Speaker 1 (31:01):
But I'm sure the thing is, you know, based on
that line of thinking, like is the risk worth the reward?
But historically the pay is there, and historically, like coaching
the Lakers is like, that's the that's like again, that's
like getting the job to be the manager of the Yankees.
It's a well, it's set a lifetime opportunity.

Speaker 2 (31:16):
What's your confidence level as a coach? Hurley demands respect,
whether it's Lebron or another superstar. I think Hurley's the
kind of coach that would get that respect.

Speaker 1 (31:26):
Maybe it's just not the right time and you know what,
maybe maybe he does. Wait like you said, and Colin said,
maybe the Nets or Knicks or the Sixers or something
opens up in that area, maybe even the Celtics and
maybe five years, ten years, and speculate maybe he knows
something we don't know. Maybe he has gotten word that
hey stick it out and you're you're the guy of
the future, and to be honest, like, we don't know.

(31:48):
You know, it sounds like the terrible sat thought, but
we always talk about every time you see your parents.
As you get older, the countdown's on how many more
times are you going to see them? How many more?
You know? Seeing your family is super valuable, And you
can't downplay if his wife Andrew is like, hey, listen,
our family's in Jersey in Connecticut. Given the Ausi's on
sorry theory on how many times you see your family,

(32:10):
I'm sorry, says how am I supposed to do a
radio show when it's so come And he also says
that let's say you see your parents or your family
twice a year. Right, Let's say they live another five years,
You're only gonna see your family ten more times. It's
a terrible thought. And if you play that aussi's on.

(32:31):
Sorry math, then it does make you want to spend
more time with your family, so you also got to
take your opportunity. Yourch makes it a different decision.

Speaker 4 (32:41):
There will come a day where you will wish you
could trade all the money in the world for one
more day with like a parent.

Speaker 1 (32:46):
Yes, it will come that day. I mean think about it.
You're going, You're going, You're going home for Father's Day
weekend because you got an opportunity with serious XM, but
also to see your dad. Yeah. Righteah, so keep that
in mind. All right, Let's go to dB for an update.

Speaker 5 (33:00):
Dan buyer, Guys, the big news is the news you're
talking about Dan Hurley turning down the Lakers job, likely
to stay at Yukon getting a six year, fifty million
dollar extension to stay with the Huskies and try to
win a third straight national championship. ESPN reported that the
Lakers offered Hurly six years, seventy million dollars and they
hoped to have a head coach prior to the NBA

(33:21):
Draft coming up in a few weeks. Darvin Ham's joining
the Bucks as a top assistant to Doc Rivers, while
Chris tops prezingis was getting his leg looked at today.
Gonna do some imaging on the leg that forced him
to leave last night's game too late in the contest,
a game two victory, by the way, that has the
Celtics up two to Ozho. Porzingi said afterwards that he
is not missing Game three. News just in from the

(33:41):
NFL as the Chargers have signed their first round pick,
tackled Joe Alt to his rookie deal. Steelers gave head
coach Mike Tomlin a three year extension that goes through
the twenty twenty seven season, and to a tongue of
Iloa's brother, Tullia is going to sign with the Hamilton
Tigercats of the CFL. He had gotten some invites from
the Seahawks and Cardinals for mini camps, but he is

(34:04):
going to be moving on to the CFL. Bears officially
signed veterans titled in Mercedes Lewis to a deal. He's
entering his nineteenth season US Open Week in golf. Adam
Scott is in extending his consecutive major streak to ninety two.
In Game two of the Stanley Cup final time Edmonton
and Florida, eight o'clock Eastern time Panthers.

Speaker 1 (34:21):
Up to one guys back to you. That's awesome, thanks
Steve Bing to his brother's playing for the Thundercuts. Thunder
thunder Cats. I didn't know they had a team in Canada.
Let's say what's up to Bruno quick, and then we'll
play some Tyson trivia. What's up Bruno?

Speaker 3 (34:36):
Gentlemen, good afternoon, good evening on this end. But hey, listen,
another epic shows usual.

Speaker 1 (34:42):
Thank you man.

Speaker 3 (34:43):
I think it's always good, but some days are better
than others. Man, today's an excellent one. By the way,
Hurley holds all occurs a right now. He knows he's
got a great opportunity to go back, maybe get another championship,
but not but guess what happens in the interim. He's
got a lot of other NBA teams that he and
look at. He'll be ready to go. He didn't let
anybody down by leaving them, you know, like last minute

(35:05):
before they had another shot, because it would always have
been said he left us before we could have got
a three p. So he keeps that legacy intact. And
then he moves on if he wants to, and he
could probably take an East Coast gig if he doesn't
want to go.

Speaker 1 (35:16):
West, you know what, that's the other way to look
at it and summed up perfectly man, But like we
try to explore all angles here, right, Uh, that's it
that you nailed it. You nailed it, No need to
say more. You know, he's going for the three people.
Let's go. Hey, we're going, We're gonna run it back
and then the opportunities, other opportunities will still be there. Yeah,
So he's taking that chance. And there's a lot of uh,

(35:36):
there's a lot of upside to that too, so no doubt. Hey,
let's been breaking it down in all angles. If you're
good in your industry, whatever you do, opportunities will find you.

Speaker 2 (35:43):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (35:43):
All right, Well, hey we got Tyson Trivia coming up next.
So if you want in again eight seven seven, nine

The safety runs first, dot Com. Well, Dornick, I think
because we're looking at the clock and I hope he's
not mad, but we're gonna push back iron Mike Trivia
just don't have enough. Hey, but yo, what's up?

Speaker 2 (37:30):
It's up cham just the security was about to walk
them in.

Speaker 1 (37:33):
Don't act like you're like you're like kicking me out,
because the truth is fact four three donation. I have
my author they're flaring up. Oh, so don't act like
you're running the show and you're gonna call the shots.
The truth is that you don't have the time right
now because I'm not feeling that good.

Speaker 2 (37:47):
Mikey, you rescheduled the fight on us, so we're going
to reschedule the game on you.

Speaker 1 (37:50):
No, I'm just not feeling well. Okay, we get it,
so okay, So I'll be back tomorrow if I feel
like it. The Bethroom the sult time I called the shots.
It is ulceras. But I having Claire up. I'm having
Claire up. Warm milk. Mike, take some more milk. Okay,
let let me let me, let me hit you mind.
If we're not doing Mike Tyson Iron Mike.

Speaker 2 (38:11):
Punch spot on the shoulder.

Speaker 1 (38:13):
I don't think Mike like the bad one, like you
dismissing him. He's saying it was his ulcers. Okay, I'm
sorry Mike. Now instead of Iron Mike trivia, let me
hit you up with one Rando trivia question before we
get out of here. On this day seventeen years ago,

(38:34):
it was arguably one of the more memorable series finales
of a show we all watched. Just to show you
how time is a flying? What happened on this day
seventeen years ago back in seven today, last episode of Friends.

(38:55):
But I'll give you here, I'll give you hit. You
were aggravated, soprano. Don't stop. Believe you thought your TV
cutout because I remember it's remember all of a sudden,
it was like, don't stop, what the hell? Scream up?
Everyone's like someone hit the remote. We were so in
shocked that we couldn't comprehend what happened. And it's so obvious,

(39:18):
hey guys, spoiler alert. Seventeen years later, Tony got whacked.
It was by the guy in the members only jacket.
That I know that, and that's why I went I
like it. I like the theory that we as the listener. Yeah,
I think we got whack. No, because they're showing that guy.

(39:39):
I think it was an episode leading up it was
members only jacket or something like that. Guy walks in
with the members only jacket, wax Tony. We don't see it.
End of the series, end of the show. We were
too dumb to understand that. I think I think we
the viewer. Let me, let me why would we have

(39:59):
gotten whack?

Speaker 4 (40:00):
He got whacked because it makes sense of that we
were caught across from You knew too much.

Speaker 1 (40:05):
I knew you knew you were well in that case,
whacked doctor Melfie too. I don't know. No, he got
whacked in front of his family at the diner by
the guy in the jacket, and we're sitting there speculating
it when the truth is right there in front of
our face. It's exactly what happened. But we were all
aggravated seventeen years ago today, which, by the way, you

(40:25):
might have to say to yourself, you know it's been
long enough because Spot rewatched and said it still holds
up it's I never watched any of those episodes over again,
so it might be time to check you out. I
have a theory on there's so much content these days,
but that watching something more than once a movie, a
show or anything just seems like all that content doesn't

(40:46):
include Paulie Walnuts. They don't make shows like that.

Speaker 2 (40:48):
I know.

Speaker 1 (40:49):
I watched The Office like five each episode five times. Yeah,
but I was saying that's a little different. I'll tell
you why, because how I make my mother, Yeah, how
I met your mother? Seinfeld The Office? Everybody loves Raymond.
Like we're talking about these like syndicated shows that you
could have on in the background and not really pay
attention to, right, Like, I know it's coming. It's just
like I feel like if I were going to watch
Sopranos again, I'd want to like actually watch it. But

(41:11):
I don't. You feel like there's so many shows you
missed along the way. Before you watch Sopranos for the
second time, maybe watch Sons of Anarchy for the first time.
Maybe watch another show that you've never watched the wire,
like shows that we've missed along the way instead of
watching something over you know what we used to watch
the same stuff over and over. You know why I
thought about it? No, you know why why did we

(41:34):
used to watch the same stuff over and over? Because
there weren't a ton of options. Now, yeah, but the
options stink Unless you want me to backtrack, like you
said for Sons of Anarchy or The Wire, those are
older shows, right, like they're rewatching a season of The Bachelor.

Speaker 2 (41:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (41:48):
No, But what I'm saying is we don't quote movies anymore.
We don't rewatch things because there's so much new stuff
all the time. When we were kids is a risk,
but most of us stinks so when we were kids.
The reason why we all know the same episodes of
Growing Pains is because it aired over and over, because
it was repeats, repeats, repeats. And I've never asked my point.
It's been seventeen years and I couldn't tell you. Like

(42:09):
Spott'll bring up an episode, I'm like, I don't really
remember that because I only saw it once. It was
a one and done thing and we loved it. I
think enough time has gone by where you can check
it out, you know, before you to bed. Oh every week,
But you know what I find myself doing most of
the time, wasting my time trying to find something I like,
and then I don't like it and I'm bored, and
especially the new stuff, I don't like it. At least

(42:30):
I know I like this.

Speaker 4 (42:31):
You're also watching it through today's lens, but through today's
method of watching, like you can binge it back when
it was first on, Like there used to be years
in between seasons and things were spread out, you forgot things.
It's like now you can just watch them start to finish.

Speaker 1 (42:43):
I don't know. It's it's rough for me to think
about rewatching something when there's so much great stuff, all
three of us, all five of them, I probably have
not watched yet.

Speaker 4 (42:50):
You still watch a lot of garbage, which is hilarious. Yeah,
come up, Perfect Match two, Perfect Match too is fine television.

Speaker 1 (42:56):
That tires get out any you see how any hot
piece of booty you're on that show. I'd rather watch sopranos.
Change the game on this day, you watch a show
from the nineteen hundreds, I'll watch a new show.

Speaker 2 (43:09):
All right.

Speaker 1 (43:09):
We'll see you guys tomorrow. Until then, baby, see you
in the Promise Land. Look at some gobba go hey, hey, Goba,
gol Goba gol
