(00:22):
I saw Adrian Broner get his ass knocked out, not
knock knocked out, knocked down though, and he lost the tooth.
So some random fights over the weekend. It's just fun
to enjoy the weekend, enjoy a drink. But now back
to the grind on this Monday? What up? D an
eg yo, what's up? How you guys doing on this Monday?
I'm good man. I thought you had something to say.
Oh no, Rich was the one raising his hand. I
(00:43):
think he was pointing at you, though I was pointing
at I was stam sure, can you identify that logo, Kavino,
Let's see if you can from here. Oh it's un
don't talk that, come on very southern. Oh it's BUCkies.
The biggest kis the biggest BUCkies. Gary Bucy's. Now it's
not Bucies. Hey, well, I think the buck teeth. U
(01:07):
what is that? Uh, it's like a gopher, a gopher, marmot,
an otter or some step that uh woodland creature. I
think that gives it away. BUCkies. It's a Texas It's
starting in Texas, right, Yeah, the biggest one. Do I
get a pre swigy or something? Yeah, give me a
pat on the back, Barry Horrowitz style. Now, my wife
is from New Brownfles, Texas, which is in between San
Antonio and Austin, and the world's largest BUCkies is there.
(01:30):
It is absurd, Like there's rose and rose and rose
and gas pumps. It's like a store. There's like a
little eatries inside. It's it's the most ridiculous thing ever.
If you know BUCkies, you know, I've never been to
a BUCkies. I got this shirt. Actually, a Ben Maller
listener sent us all Bucky shirts. I hope you kept
the receipt. I was Sam, thank you, thank you kidding? Oh,
(01:50):
I love it. I'm kidding. Sam's on the ones and
twos and working overnight. Happy to be back, happy to
be here on the show. You know, it's a good
at BUCkies. They got beaver nuggets. Have you ever had
I feel like I feel like you've had it's a
piece of beaver. What are we talking about? I was
letting you beaver said, I met beaver, but I didn't
(02:11):
know if we could say that on Fox Animal nice
beaver beaver nuggets. It's like a little corn puff things.
People love their Bucki's beaver nuggets. So if you're on
the road, what's up now? Over the weekend, there's a
lot to get to again, we'll talk to NBA. There's
a Bryce Harper story I find fascinating, Dan Hurley saying no,
(02:32):
thank you Lakers. We'll get to that and this reason.
But I was Sam, I think you're gonna love our
first conversation, all right, because I know nothing you care
about more than Kaitlyn Clark. I over the weekend, like
everyone else, at first, was like, no way, You're not
(02:52):
gonna fool me leaving Kaitlyn Clark off a team USA.
You thought you got me. I was like, f six,
no way. I couldn't believe it either. I was like,
come on, I'm not fall for the of these shenanigans.
And I'm like, oh wait a minute, that seems like
a legitimate source. I'll let me click on this what
(03:13):
I immediately thought. I couldn't wait to get back on
the air and save my thoughts for Fox Sports Radio. Well,
can we just explain too to anybody new listening when
Rich and I agree, it's fact, so you can call
them debate it. In fact, we welcome it because I
know not everybody agrees. But man, no, I'm convinced that
in a world where everyone disagrees politics, sports, relationships, music,
(03:36):
some people like country, some people like hip hop, some
people like Biden, some people like Trump, some people are country,
some are city boys. Everyone's got different opinions. I will
find it difficult to find a human being that doesn't
think this is a top three moronic decision in sports history,
(04:00):
not this year, not just women's basketball. I'm talking in
the history of athletics, in the history of sport, going
back to Roman colisseums. This is the most asini crap
I've ever seen in my life. The woman who is
the face of a sport that you're trying to grow,
(04:20):
that is making people change their venue from a small,
little rinky thing jim to an arena. The woman who
is single handedly crusading the WNBA into the next level.
You'll leave her off a team USA whose head is
so far up their ass that they thought this was
a good idea. You can't argue, well, the veterans, who
cares about Diana Tarassi? Let's be do you care? I'm
(04:44):
out with the old Riva. There she beat it. What
is she forty one? I'm not saying she's done, but
she's had her time. She's played in what four Olympics.
Give it to the new person who's gonna be productive
to the league. It's a business at the end of
the day. And you know at the beginning end of
the day.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
Cove, you saw the reasoning too. I know we were
in the group weekend worried because she wouldn't get a
lot of minutes.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
That's hogwash, That's that's dumb ass aery in itself, because
now you're insinuating ch has so many fans put her
on the damn team. This is not about well, you
know the history of some of these women who gives
an ass. That's not fair and I get it, life's
not fair. But you're gonna keep her off because of that,
because of the distraction she might cause. How about the
(05:30):
amount of eyes and attention she brings that women's basketball
needs and the excitement for the fans to tune in
for when she gets in. Dude, the networks can't be
happy about that. It's about the bottom dollar, it's about
the eyes on the prize. It's about them winning, and
they're gonna win with her without a regardless, that's the thing.
So throw her in there, man, And people say, I
(05:52):
get this argument, but for who right? Everyone that's on
that roster is qualified and they're worthy, all right, but
make room for the one feelings Right now, the feelings
of a w NBA veteran that we really don't know
her feelings takes precedence over elevating a sport to the
next level. This is insane, ridiculous. I saw the word product.
(06:13):
I thought, I thought the word that I that I
liked best was unthinkable, unthinkable, but counterproductive. Like I said,
from the growth standpoint of the sport, UH, from a
marketability of the matchups for ratings, for business for money,
the whole thing is backwards. It makes you saying, Hm,
there's got to be more to it, and the story
can't be done. It just can't be finished because it's
(06:35):
so counter productive and absurd. I was thinking about it.
What would be the most counterproductive. And you could tell
me two things here, the most unthinkable ridiculous decisions in
sports history. Because I think this Caitlin Clark not being
on Team USA. I'm being serious when I say this.
I think it's a top three unexplainable ridiculous choice. Now,
(06:57):
the other thought is if you were trying to start
a business or elevate a business in twenty twenty four,
it would be like opening a restaurant and saying, you know,
we're not gonna do We're not gonna have an app,
we're not gonna let people order online, we're not gonna
partner up with delivery services. In fact, we're not even
gonna be on social media. We're not gonna advertise either. Yeah,
we're just gonna hope it works, you know, because too
(07:20):
many customers might be distracting to the overall you know everyone.
You know, what if there's too many people that want
our burgers? Wait, but aren't you in it to make
some money and like, you know, to win? Uh yeah,
but you know that's just a little too much. Please,
someone provide me with a counter argument, because, like I said,
I have an argument for us. There's a lot of
people saying, well, she's not ready, and I get that,
(07:41):
but she's doing pretty damn well on the WNBA stat wise, right.
I mean, her team stinks, we know that, but she's well,
the beast has awoken, as she said, and she's playing well.
But if you're gonna say that, was Christian Latner ready
for the Dream Team, give me a break. Look at
the Superstars. He was surrounded by him on the Dream Team.
(08:01):
He was playing with Jordan and Patrick Ewing and Scottie
Pippen and Karl Malone. Give me a break. She can't
compete and show face for the younger fans with the
veterans in the WNBA. If Latner can play with those legends,
I'm pretty sure she could play with the w NBA legends.
And it's just good for business and basketball. It's good
(08:21):
for everything. But so the fact that she's off makes
zero sense. Rich and I really don't have a lot
of tolerance for anyone saying you will, she'll get her
she'll get her turn. No, her turn is right now.
Bad business. And that's why I trek all the irons
high in a world where Danny may love the Raiders
and someone else being like I hate the raaders. I
like the Chiefs, you like Biden, this guy likes Trump.
This we listen as a society. We disagree on a lot.
(08:44):
I find it hard for someone to really make with
a straight face or a gay face, any face, a
bisexual face, and look at me with a straight face
and tell me, oh, they made the right choice. No
one on planet Earth is thinking Caitlyn Clark left, and
that's a shock that they are. Read the feedback. He
got a feedback from just our Patreon. I bet you
(09:06):
if you go to our Twitter right now, there's people
disagreeing with you, idiotic contrarians that don't know about life
or business. They're gonna say, you don't know about basketball
and you're not making basketball the priority. But you're seeing
short sighted, you bozos, because you've got to think bigger
picture and the eyes she's bringing to the sport. That's
really the whole motivation here, that's what the game needed
(09:27):
all this time. Now you have the world stage with
arguably the world's most popular athlete at the moment, and
you don't include her. It's ball dropped, pun intended. And
you can go over every stat rich look. Opening Night,
which featured Indiana Fever and the Connecticut Sun. We talked
about it. Average two point one two million on ESPN two, ESPN,
(09:50):
Disney Plus, peaking at two point three to four million,
making it the most watched w NBA game on Disney
platforms ever, Disney ever, JERSEYSID. Since the start of season,
WNBA store has already set records for the most single
season sales in store history. Overall transactions are up seven
hundred and fifty six percent. It's the same time period
(10:13):
last year. You know why two words, Caitlin Clark, you
even or off Team USA, I would have watched now.
I won't give me a break. It's absurd. Dan Bayer
gave us a fun little cheat sheet. Thanks DV. Thank
you DV. You're the best WNBA social media of three
hundred and eighty percent with engagement NBA. I'm sorry. WNBA
(10:33):
League pass an increase of three hundred and thirty five percent.
So again, anyone that argues this, you're just being that
dummy contrarian that wants to fight for no reason. It's
it's a unanimous decision by anyone. I said, top three
dumbest decisions in sports history. I in my mind, I
came up with a quick three. It's so ridiculous Rich
(10:54):
it makes me mad, all right, it really does. And
for the record, look at these bozos, these drabon when
he exacting like they care about women's basketball. No, but
I see injustice. When I see it justice, I just
see bad business. Like I said, it's like I think
there's more stir in the kool aid here because it
makes no sense. The bottom line is getting as many
viewers as possible, you know, bring the excitement worldwide. She's
(11:18):
the most popular player maybe, like you said, the most
popular athlete around. It makes zero logical sense to leave
her off. So there's more to the story. And like
I said, I don't think it's over. I think there's
gonna be enough backlash to maybe second guess their decision.
Since the NFL season rapped, since the Super Bowl rapped
(11:39):
Chiefs Niners. I think it's a very fair argument to
say the most talked about player in all of sports,
men or women has been Caitlin Clark. If you say
from February until now, take away the NFL season ends,
her name has probably been in more conversations than any
other athlete, which makes this insane. So my top three
most ridiculous decisions in sports history that I that I
(12:02):
put together the Great, crazy great listte Pete Carroll not
running Marshall Lynch at the goald line. Yeah, ridiculous, Kitling
Clark not being on tam USA and the Blazers choosing
Sam Bouie over Michael Troyce. What about the Red Sox
selling Babe Ruthe to the Yankees. That's a legendary. That's
(12:24):
a good one. We're not doing a show for anyone
over eighty five. I'm sorry, one hundred and eighty five
years old. That's your sports love though. No, but everybody
knows that's one of the weakest moves ever made in sports.
And you know the curse of the Great Bambino and
Yankees got got so much out of that move. Again,
a few more stats I want to throw out there.
(12:45):
Approximately four hundred thousand fans attended w NBA games since
the tip of the season through the end of May,
the most through the first month of the season in
twenty six years. No surprise, you tell me. More than
half of the w NBA games were sell which is
one hundred and fifty six percent increase from last year.
And additionally, WNBA teams and arenas are filled to a
(13:07):
ninety four percent capacity, again, up seventeen percent from last year.
Everything is up based on us is boomy, based on
what you're saying, it is because of one woman and
one woman only. And I'm telling you you can't tell me, Oh,
she doesn't belong on a roster with Diana Tarassi, get
out of here. Christian Lanner didn't belong on a roster
with Michael Jordan and he was there, boom. And it's
not about she's a rookie. Rookies have made the Olympic
(13:29):
team before. It's all backwards thinking there's some some hater
ade going on, there's something more. Everything along the lines
of logic don't line up and make sense at all. Fans,
exactly why you put her? Don't you feel like Danny
g It almost like feels like self sabotage. Yes, Like
(13:50):
you know when you're in a great relationship and you're like,
oh my god, she's great, she's hot, she's smart, she's everything,
and you like try to find a problem with her, like,
how could I sabotage this? Is? Are is women's basketball?
And this committee trying to sabotage basketball?
Speaker 2 (14:04):
Look, no, further than just a few games ago, when
the Washington Mystics had to move their game against the
Fever from their normal forty two hundred seed Arena to
the twenty thousand plus Capital One Arena and those extra
sixteen thousand tickets sold out in thirty minutes.
Speaker 1 (14:19):
WHOA isn't that insane? Though? That in itself, to me, Yeah,
is such an eye opener to see the magnitude in
which she brings, you know, like wow, like how many
people she's bringing out. It's not easy to bring asses out,
you know how fun it is to be lazy, but no,
people are getting off their ass to see this woman,
and you can see we're prisoners of the moment. That's fine.
(14:42):
I'll think how you strike while they I'll take it,
and you put her on the team, will take it.
I'll take it a step further. I think Angel Reyes, Cavin, Brink,
a lot of these other young women should also be
on the team. We are ushering in a new generation
of female star athletes that, for some reason, love it
or not, they're connecting with not only women but men
(15:02):
who watch sports. I guess. So why are we leaning
into the old heads when there's these new generations. Old
heads have been on the Olympic team, have one Olympic goals?
Did you tune into them? So you're gonna keep rolling
the same people out there. The USA is gonna win
no matter what, even with those young people you said before,
you know they're gonna win.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
It's so weak, there's no way, it's it's counterproductive on
every level not to have the young faces of the
w NBA in college basketball.
Speaker 1 (15:37):
Yeah, and for Rich and I to care this much
when we really don't even well, we just started watching
because of one person. And the reality is I don't
really care that much. But when I'm when I'm forced
to have an opinion. Right now, I'm really getting heated
about it because I'm realizing, like, just from a business standpoint,
I'm not a I'm not you know, mister wonderful on
Shark Tank. But you know, Marcus Lamona, I feel like
(15:58):
I got a pretty good sense of sports in business
and what a good move is.
Speaker 4 (16:01):
And I just I don't think this is explainable her
being her not being on the roster. It's also an
international whiff, all right. We basketball is an international sport,
Like when Yao Ming came to play in the NBA,
viewership in China went up. People like Luca and uh,
you know, Luka Jancic, people in Slovenia probably watching there,
(16:22):
and and uh and and you know, and people in
Serbia watching and it's like it's that could have helped
grow the international product.
Speaker 1 (16:29):
Same way the Dream Team, your your home.
Speaker 4 (16:31):
Country team is playing Kaitlin Clark and Team USA. Maybe
people start watching from those countries and.
Speaker 1 (16:36):
You who you trying to win over. Let's think of
the like. Let's think of the like marketing one oh
one okay, for any little kid. When you see commercials
for Coca Cola or commercials for Budweiser, you know what
Coca Cola and Budweiser is. They don't need to market
to you. They're marketing to the kids, the next generation.
You don't want to market to the young women of
(16:58):
America and internation, Ashley, young basketball fans who were excited
about something new. You want to keep rolling the same
old dusty asses out there. That is counterproductive. Is bad marketing,
is bad for the sport. It makes no sense the end.
It just makes no sense from a business, from a
fan perspective, from any perspective. So that's our side, guys.
(17:19):
We gave you the stats, we gave you our opinion,
just as fans, and I'd love to chop it up
and take your phone calls. You know, we try to
be as interactive as possible. I've read all the feedback.
If she's not ready or you know this, this this
lineup stacked already, who would you take off? I don't
know anyone old that's been there already, any of them,
because they're gonna win no matter. You asked me who
to take off? My answer is any of them. Yeah,
(17:41):
I'd see Tarasi honestly, just because she's been there so
many times, not even the who else on the squad?
You have to show me the roster. But I can
not show she's not good. I can promise you. While
some of them, their accolades and resumes and everything are
probably sweet and dude, aren't you marketing for the next generation,
the or the consume, the consumers of the product moving forward.
You gotta keep that in mind too. I don't want
(18:03):
to be that anymore.
Speaker 4 (18:03):
It's not like this is next next year she gets
a shot at it again. It's four years from now.
It's four years from now. It's not like one year
goes by that Okay, she's back. Look at that she's
on the roster. That's not even promised.
Speaker 2 (18:13):
There's a lot of injuries involved in sports, so a
lot of people in two thousand and eight probably said
Derek Rose will get his chance, and then he has
a major injury.
Speaker 1 (18:22):
So you don't you don't know of the great points.
It's really and she's taking the high road and she
says she's excited for you know, her her peers to
represent and shall be a chance for her body to recover.
She will. She's saying all the right things and I
get it. That's the positive way to look at it.
And then there's a side story where she told her coach.
She texted her coach apparently they woke up a monster
(18:43):
because they left her off the roster. And we actually
have the sound bite if you want to take a listen.
Speaker 2 (18:48):
I think was, hey, coach, they woke a monster, which I.
Speaker 1 (18:50):
Thought was awesome, And that opens up a whole They're
almost side discussion. It's like when I make a joke
on like if I say, hey, did you see Dan
Byer's shoes today? Rich and then rich And goes and
tells Dan Byer, He's like, yo, I told you that.
Speaker 4 (19:03):
Dan shoes today on the money, and I got new
shoes today, so that happened.
Speaker 1 (19:08):
I actually complimented Dan always, I said, man, those are fresh. Honestly, dB,
I haven't even noticed. But I'm saying, sometimes you say
things inconfidence. Who's to say that. Caitlin Clark wanted that
quote to be a major headline moving forward because that
just adds more pressure to what she does next day.
Woke MANSI. She said that to her coach. Did she
(19:28):
want the world to know that? It's like Rich, If
I wanted Dan Byer to know I was making fun
of his shoes, I would have told him.
Speaker 5 (19:34):
But if you want Dan Byer to know his shoes sucked,
tell Rich because it'll get to him.
Speaker 1 (19:40):
Rich Davis six ships, as they said, blubber lips Davis.
I'll give you my favorite example is nothing to do
with Dan Buyer shoes, because I totally made that up. Coincidence.
Our pal Steve Cohen, not the owner of the Mets,
Steve Cohen, who works for He worked for Serious XM NFL,
one of the band one of the big heavy hitters,
one of the producers. He worked with Mad dog, Mike
and Madog. Yeah, but Steve Cohen probably a top like
(20:02):
dog in the world of sports pop dog, great guy,
good friend of ours. Steve Cohen. Cavino one time said, dude,
you know how Steve Collen looks like he looks like
of Ameilio Estevez and Ray Ramono had a baby. They
had a love child. He really does, but he does
spot so imagine Ray Ramono Amelia west of his hair right,
(20:23):
and it's something about it. So I'm telling Riches in confidence.
We have a nice laugh about it, and he's a
big dog in the industry, like a big dog in
the company. Rich goes up and he's like, you know, Cavino, fed,
you look like the Ray Ramono and Amelia. And then
he comes up to me and goes, hey, I heard
you said, I look like it's like yo. That was
(20:45):
for Rich. That wasn't for him. In the year he
thought it was fun. I think Caitlyn Clark's comment was
for the coach, but that blubber lips had to tell
everybody that there's a monster awoken. You know what. That's
our side. It's a little aggravating because you see the fun,
you see the drama. You see all these stories developing
in the w n b A, and you want to
see that translate on a main worldwide stage. And they're
(21:08):
blowing the opportunity, so that leaves them no room to
ever complain again about attendance and Jersey sales and why
are people watching? I don't know, why aren't you doing
better job marketing? You know what? I really your check?
I genuine I hate to root against things because that's
just it is. How is it rooting? I'm saying it's
rooting for it? That's why you that's why you're angry. No,
(21:29):
I'm saying it's not nice to root against things. That's
mean spirited. However, I would love to see the ratings
be in the turally. As my grandmother would say, have
you ever tuned in before to watch so when like
when like that's counter productive though, right? I mean, well
that's what you want to You're saying you want to
grow the sport, but then you will, I will watch you.
(21:49):
I want without Caitlin Clark. I want the ratings to
be abysmal to prove the point of like, look what
you idiots did.
Speaker 4 (21:56):
Comes back to our discussion on spite spiite.
Speaker 1 (21:59):
We have more Covino and Rich and I take a
deep breath. The rest of our shot hands be happy
and fun. I just aggravated both of us. We're allowed
to be uh aggravated by it. Yeah, we're gonna talk
about Dan Harley. We're gonna talk about Bryce Harper. We're
gonna talk about dam By Shoes, dam buy her shoes.
It's all coming up.
Speaker 6 (22:17):

Speaker 1 (22:29):
Hey, we're Cavino and Rich Fox Sports Radio every day
five to seven pm Eastern. But here's the thing. We
never have enough time to get to everything we want
to get to. And that's why we have a brand
new podcast called over Promised. You see, we're having so
much fun in our two hour show. We never get
to everything, honestly, because this guy is over promising things
(22:49):
we never have time for. Yeah, you blubber.
Speaker 6 (22:51):
Liam in me.
Speaker 1 (22:52):
Well you know what it's called over promise. You should
be good at it because you've been over promising women
for years. Well, it's a Cavino and Rich after show,
and we want you to be part of it. We're
gonna be talking sports, of course, but we're also gonna
talk life and relationships. And if Rich and I are
arguing about something or we didn't have enough time, it
will continue on our after show called over Promised. Well,
if you don't get enough Covino and Rich, make sure
(23:13):
you check out over Promised and also Uncensored by the way,
so maybe we'll go at it even a little harder.
It's gonna be the best after show podcast of all time.
There you go, over Promising. Remember you could see it
on YouTube, but definitely join us. Listen to over Promised
with Covino and Rich on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts,
or wherever you get your podcasts. Covino and Rich, this
(23:42):
is my skiing song. Somebody think ski playlist for real
Livematirack dot com studios. Hey, speaking to music. I'll be
on Music Mayhem tonight on Access TV midnight Eastern. See
if you've got Access TV axst checked me out, your
boy Cavino tonight talking the dark side of rock. Oh man,
(24:05):
I was gonna watch Clipped, but now I'm gonna watch that. Yeah, man,
when you do a clipped. Thanks for to support turn
on a little Cavino and by the way, we're gonna
harp on Bryce Harper, yeah, and Dan Hurley and play
some iron My trivia. But I think what made me
so emotional about the Kaitlyn Clark thing is because I
thought it was so obvious that she's so perfect for that, right, like,
(24:31):
they're gonna win. They haven't lost what seven years or
something like that, you know, only seven Olympics, twenty seven Olympics.
They haven't lost like the nineties. Now there was a
seven in there, right, It's it's just ridiculous. It's so like, Oh,
Kaitlyn Clark thinking the jerseys, they're gonna sell worldwide excitement
for this young player. The world's gonna be captivated the
way we've been to think about another Olympic, another Olympic
(24:54):
event where eyes will be on it. It just seems
so obvious that when I read it, there was just
a sense of disdain and disgust that came over me,
and hopefully that translated a little bit. Not that mad
about it. I'm gonna sleep well tonight. Put it that way,
but it is it is odd and counterproductive when Rich
(25:16):
and I agree is fact. That's Truich, Davis Cavino, and
Rich and we got to talk to your boy, Bryce Harper.
Now the Mets in the Phillies played in London. We
talked the other day about how Pete a lonzo seeing
what's concerned about getting some good fish and chips. No,
he was fun with the media. I feel like the
Mets and Phillies both seem to have had a pretty
(25:38):
sweet experience playing in London.
Speaker 2 (25:40):
The cameras showed the food that Spotty talked about on
Friday too.
Speaker 1 (25:44):
Yes, two foot long hot dog and nachos. It's a
great experience. And at and At you know what I
thought was awesome too. I don't know if you have it.
I was saying, maybe I'll grab a dar in the
next break. The ending call of one of the games
when they had the British announcers next level, it was fantastic.
(26:05):
The Mets won a game. What did he do? They
still stink, but they won on a full swing bot
like a swinging bunt stepped on home third to first
double play. And the announcer has brought a different level
of excitement. Now he'll look for that sound.
Speaker 5 (26:21):
They're used to calling actual games with excitement like soccer,
so I'm sure they were prepared for this.
Speaker 1 (26:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (26:27):
How about Bryce Harper Spotty. Did you see on Saturday
where he was rounding the bases after his long bomb
home run and he's like, I love soccer and then
he slides and he does this soccer celebration.
Speaker 1 (26:38):
Dude, that was so awesome. Awesome. There really was man
playing to the crowd. By the way, it goes back
to the previous conversation, giving the fans what they want, right,
I mean it goes back to that. That was so
cool to see. It was great to see the sport
and see it grow overseas become international in that way.
(27:00):
I enjoyed it. I didn't hear this call you speak of, though,
rich No, I was. Sam told me he had it,
but he didn't. I was thinking about some Nils, Caitlin
Clark no something related, not that we'll get in a second.
But take a listen to something Bryce Harper said, because
this is where I wanted to go anyway. The call
itself will play because it is it does give you
(27:22):
almost like a soccer feel to a baseball call. I
love that and you'll love it. But Bryce Harper said
he observed something about the people overseas. The coolest thing.
Speaker 7 (27:33):
I've seen in London yet is I've driven by and
I've seen people outside the pub drinking and having conversations
with no phones or anything like that. And I think
that's one of the cooler things I've seen just in
the world today because people don't have that, You don't
disconnect like that, and so I think that's I said
it on the movie Network on being able to kind
(27:55):
of drive by and see friends together and family together
and everybody's hanging outside pubs and you know, drinking or
doing or they are doing with no phones and disconnected.
I think I think everybody can learn from that because
that's that's that's one of the cool things I've seen
in a while. I don't know if I'll go in
and watch tonight, but that's one of the cool things
(28:15):
I've seen.
Speaker 1 (28:16):
I think the coolest thing they do is say aluminium
instead of aluminum aluminium. You know that's cool. But I
was gonna say great banter during the game. I was
I was gonna say that. I know that around the
world there's different stereotypes that different people have. Americans do this,
(28:36):
Americans do that. I mean, I should we all be aware.
Are Americans known to be way more buried in their phone?
Or isn't everyone around the world buried in their phone?
Because maybe that isn't. Here's here's what I think. I think.
I agree with everything Bryce Harper said everything, Oh, family
and friends and disconnecting, that's all great. I think that's wonderful.
(28:58):
It's a great message, and it's a great observation. But yeah,
isn't it safe to say that what he witnessed. I'm
not saying he's lying either. I'm saying I think he
may have witnessed a very rare circumstance to my knowledge.
I know we Americans are fat and lazy and are
in our phones all day. But I'm with you, Rich,
(29:18):
I'm with the understanding that everybody around the world is
equally as obsessed. Didn't Elon Musk just give the Internet
and pourn in fact to a foreign tribe and then
they became obsessed with it in the in the Amazon rainforest.
It captivated them like that and changed their lifestyle. You're
gonna tell me that people in England. My exes from England,
(29:40):
she has her nose buried in her phone all the time.
They're better than us. I don't think so. I think
he just witnessed one particular moment. So I think it
is a reminder that we should all, you know, maybe
spend a little less time on our phone. But you
listen to the call real quick. The ending of the
(30:01):
Mets Phillies game, take a listen, like.
Speaker 5 (30:03):
Trusting all those dots explodes, how they gonna get the
runner at.
Speaker 1 (30:06):
Home, They're gonna get the double play to win the game.
One an end. He shuts it, but the runner outs
at home tights and the doll fired into the club
and the first basement pizzamongsou under near the old Nights.
Speaker 6 (30:21):
Somehow we've stunned the Phillies ally.
Speaker 1 (30:24):
By the way, Alonso had a lot of great things
to say about his experience too. Out there. They had
a great time everybody, and they wish they could have
stayed longer, is what he said. Isn't there something he
said about there's great announcements here in the States. But
how cool was that Dandy? Didn't that like give a
different level of excitement? That was awesome. A great series
in London over the weekend. Very cool to see. Yeah,
(30:44):
baseball is an international sport, but you know, English people
especially lean into cricket and soccer and things like that.
But they were all fired up and Bryce Harper was
was loving it. Your boy. Pete Alonzo was saying the
only down side was that they couldn't stay longer and
really take it in because they had such a great experience.
But Bryce Harper said that the one thing he noticed
(31:07):
was a lot of these people were in the moment
and at the pub and buddy chummy with their friends
and family. If you've ever been to London or Ireland
or any you know that part of the world, it's
hard to it's hard to think that the younger generation
isn't buried in their phones, but there is hard there's
more of a buddy chummy camaraderie, cool pub scene that
(31:28):
maybe we lack a little bit here.
Speaker 6 (31:31):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (31:32):
I think Bryce Harper, here's my theory. Bryce Harper witnessed
an awesome moment, but it doesn't depict the entire United Kingdom.
I think he saw a moment of people having a
great time and they were disconnected enjoying the moment, and
it made him think, like, yeah, that's what living really is.
I don't think it's any different. I mean we could
(31:55):
be wrong on that. We could be the worst. A
lot of people think we are. Maybe we are. Hey, listen,
maybe our screen time averages are way higher than other nations.
I find that hard to believe, especially with young people. Yeah. No,
what I think is interesting though, And I'm not downplaying
traveling abroad, so Brightce S. Harper said, put the phone down,
disconnect and enjoy people for who they are. I don't
(32:15):
want to downplay traveling abroad because listen, it's a great opportunity,
and you know, it's it's a privilege to travel the
world and see different places. And if you've been lucky
enough to go to you know, different countries, God bless you.
But we do make it seem like they went to
the moon. The flight to London is like the flight
to LA but it is a different world. And I know,
but what I'm saying is like artisans, you know, two
(32:37):
teams that are in Philly and New York went to London.
It's the same flight as going to like San Diego
or Seattle or New York or to LA Like, it's
not that much further. So I wouldn't be surprised if
they do more of this in the future, because the
reality is is it. It looked great, it was exciting,
you know what I'm saying, Like, it's it's not that crazy.
You gotta grow the sport. I love it. I thought
(32:58):
it was great, really cool. And no one's on their phone.
Everyone's just you know, everyone's just.
Speaker 2 (33:04):
And I looked up the screen time average, uh studies
in both countries.
Speaker 1 (33:09):
And they're similar. Yeah, I would imagine, because I don't
think it's like any teenagers in London and you know,
Germany and Italy they're on TikTok just as much as
your stupid kids exactly. I mean the answer is more pubs,
more beer, That's the answer. You need more of that here.
Social activity. I bet you this, I was Sam. We're
(33:31):
social opportunity. I bet you beer consumption in other parts
of the world, because I feel like here in the
States we're like as much as we're gross here and
eat bed, we've transferred to seltzers, and I think the
rest of the world might stay like yeah, beers at
the pub.
Speaker 4 (33:45):
So I was in London about a year ago and
had plenty of plenty of pints.
Speaker 1 (33:51):
It was a good time, nice sweet SuDS. Mister Z
the Deer sweet SuDS. So let's talk about a guy
that made a decision that some will question and some
will understand. And it really depends on where you are
in life and what your priorities are. And that guy
is Dan Mother Evan Hurley. This guy has talked about
(34:17):
wanting to become a coach in the NBA at some point,
and when you get offered, by the way, that's a
big part of the story. That fact that he wanted
he an NBA coach, the fact that he was offered
six years, seventy million dollars. Genie Buss, Rob Polenka, everyone
(34:40):
rolling out the red carpet probably got the thumbs up
from Lebron if he sticks around. And this is a
big deal. Listen. I know there's a couple jobs in
the world where they say you age the most, and
I think that was the joke. Was President of the
United States and manager of the Yankees, Like you just
aged terribly And where can with me? Because I mean,
(35:00):
look at Rich what nothing? There are certain jobs that
make you just age. Your Geis's program directors are producers
spot Spot's actually thirty joking, But Rich is right. Look
at Obama at the start of his presidency, any president
from the start to the finish, right. Yeah. Uh, look
at any Yankees manager. They go from like sweethead of
(35:21):
hair to fin it out completely gray. And the Lakers
with the amount of attention and the high profile players
and Lebron that's a high profile gig man. That's that's
the joke. You're living in La you become all Hollywood.
You're in the scene, you're the Lakers coach. But according
(35:42):
to what insiders are saying, and in fact, he said
it himself. So the insider is is Dan himself. And
it's interesting because a lot of times you wonder, how
are these big decisions made, because these are life changers.
Danny J. You don't think it was a life changer
when Cavino and I say, y'all, dude, we're both gonna
leave our families on the East Coast and we're both
(36:05):
gonna move out to California. Spot you as well. We
all took a road trip together, we put all our
belongings in a moving van, and even though we're happy
and it's working out, we're on Fox Sports Radio till
this day. I still debate was that the best move
because you're moving away from your family and then they're
part there's a part of me that's like, I love
southern California. I see my parents a couple times a year,
(36:28):
I see my siblings a couple times a year, Like
is it worth it? But you have to ask yourself, well,
how often would you see them if you were living
a state away.
Speaker 2 (36:36):
I hear you and if you guys had stayed on
ESPN doing your TV show, there was a possibility that
they would have wanted to move you out to Connecticut.
Speaker 1 (36:44):
Dude. We found out a lot of the people we
worked with at the La ESPN and Los Angeles, a
lot of those people over the last year, they've done
the whole Yeah, we're relocating you to Connecticut back to Bristol.
Speaker 6 (36:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (36:56):
And then I'm thinking, like, what if we had still
been there and COVID didn't happen and we ever got
this sweet opportunity at Fox Sports Radio, would you have
been like, Hey, I'm moving to Bristol. You know, rich
opportunities come so few and far between. It's like I've
always said, when that big wave comes, grab your surfboard.
You've always said that, grab your surfboard. When you say
(37:18):
you do like your calling voice, which is yeah, grab
that wave, but sometimes you don't want that wave. And
that's what it seems to be here because Dan Hurley
turned down again a Lakers offer to coach six year,
seventy million dollars. Like, that's not jump change, that's a
big yeah, No, I'm good.
Speaker 2 (37:37):
Almost feels like a family member is weighing down the surfboard.
Speaker 1 (37:40):
Yes, but next year, seventy million to coach a team
that's good, to coach the Lakers. He's not coaching some
whack ass team. They're really good. So that's what makes
us even more interesting. And then we find out there
are family reasons asked yourself all the questions involved. Let
me first talk about Andrea Hurley, the wife of Yukon
(38:04):
Husky's national title winning back to back head coach. A
New Jersey native, Gota Ghul.
Speaker 2 (38:12):
Thought of you in the video over the weekend went
viral of her at the Billy Joel concert I wrote
this down.
Speaker 1 (38:17):
You know what she's like. They don't serve Taylor ham
in La. I can't do it. It's a Jersey. There's
no good bay Go. The pizza is not good. Well,
Andrea Hurley, I'm glad you said that Danny, because I
actually wrote that down right here. Billy Joel, she was
at the garden. There's nothing more in New York or
(38:38):
New Jersey than when Billy Joel does his monthly residence
every so often. You're like, I don't know, and Pauline
Walnuts would put his hands up a eight D listen,
he hey, that was pretty Jersey. There's nothing more East
Coast than on occasion saying let's go see Billy at
the garden. They probably stopped in midtown. Got some pizza. Now, Andrea,
(38:58):
if you see my dad comb his hair in the morning,
you'd say, that's pretty Jersey.
Speaker 8 (39:01):
Yeah, no disrespect, ay, yeah, just go my hey, dad
put some product in it. Nah, the way it drives,
the way it stays. Oh yes, it's called the passage Jack. Yeah,
it's it's it's pretty Jersey. So he's in his tidy whities.
It's very Jersey.
Speaker 1 (39:17):
Let me just make it quick, clear, real quick. But
we'll speculate. So Andrea Hurley, the wife of Dan, is
a Jersey girl. To quote Dan Hurley himself, we went
to Rhode Island, which I had to drag her two.
Then we went to Connecticut. By the way, drag her.
What is that three hour drive? But that those are
the sacrifices you made. Dude, you dated a Jersey girl.
(39:38):
Hold on, now, you dated a Jersey girl that if
we if you were still with her, no way you
would have moved to La. She was like her family
lived down the block. Family lives in Rhode Island. My
family lives in Jersey. Guess what, she drives three hours
every other weekend to see your family. It's a drive.
I'm just shoying. Okay, if you're not picturing the map,
it's not that big of a deal. So to drag
(39:59):
her away, well, I don't know a hell of a living.
That's that's that's just a nice compromise. Dan Hurley dragged
her to rud Island, He didn't drag her a hell
of a living. And then to Connecticut. I got her
closer to connecticutt you mean, like exactly, that's all in
this tri state area, some people want to live in
the same neighborhood. Yeah, exactly. You know what I have
(40:22):
to say. And this is nothing against uh Andrew Hurley here,
but wow, we're talking to state away all right, let
me finish, and then you could dive in there, Jock
Coustel Dan Hurley said, then I got her closer when
we went to Connecticut. I can't. I can't afford a
(40:43):
divorce right now. I just started making money. He's saying,
going to La takes his Jersey wife three thousand miles away.
And I'll tell you this. I mentally battle sometimes like
did I make the right move. I live away from
every child to a friend. I have every high school friend, family, siblings, mom, dad.
(41:05):
I'm in Los Angeles. They are in New York, Connecticut, Maryland.
Every one of my family is on the East Coast.
Your college radio station, which recently honored you, they never
honor me. Syracuse hates me. You're your coffee guy in
New York City. What was his name, Hassan.
Speaker 7 (41:21):
Usual.
Speaker 1 (41:23):
I left Hassan and everyone behind Cavino. My wife is
from Texas. Her family's all there. We live in LA.
Love our life here. But there are times if you
don't think, we think like man, life would be different
if we had family nearby. So yeah, but you wonder
if he knocked, and it's knocking really strong for him,
But what's more important if he was all right? If
the options were coach of Lakers, wait if it was
(41:46):
still once in a lifetime opportunity. If it was, you
can't downplay coach of the Lakers, like it's some little
league teams or something. But if it's coach of Lakers
or live in a van down by the river, that's
one thing. But it's coach the Lakers or continue to
coach the college that you just want back to back
titles for and you're also getting paid millions and millions
of dollars from experience. Man, my ex sort of put
(42:09):
an ultimatum on me. We had a TV offer in
New York City. These are like not easy jobs to
come by, and she's like, look, if you go to
New York again, this is gonna put a lot of
pressure on our family. I'm like, how would you like
me to earn a living? This is what I do.
It's like Rocky Bobo. So Rocky Bobo says it's okay.
But if I say, you're gonna question it, like YOUO.
(42:30):
I never asked you stop being a Woman's you ask
me to stop being a man. Absolutely no, you're asking
me to not do what you can't do. No, but
it's not a fair request. You're asking this guy a
great provider to not take a once in a lifetime
dream gig. I feel if he's that willing to turn
it down, his heart wasn't really in it, or doesn't
(42:52):
want to work with Lebron, or doesn't like the city
of la to begin with. Because I understand you put
your family first. I'm not downplaying that because I I'm
with you. Rich. I sometimes wondered did we make the
right move, But when opportunities there, you got to answer it.
And he's been there, done that, like doctor Drake, the
back championships in college.
Speaker 2 (43:10):
Now Covino, unless it was just lip service, he did
comment over the weekend that the Lakers really impressed him
with the vision, the facilities, the overall pitch I thought
he was going through. He said he was super impressed,
and that's why a lot of people thought the decision
today was going to go the other direction.
Speaker 1 (43:26):
I think he's honestly making the wrong decision. Was when
I look back, I know I did what was right
for me, and that's my point, you know, and you
could say selfish or whatever, but I did do it
for my family. I did it for the legacy, the
career move, the money that we needed, all of those
things I live once that was my dream. I went
for it. So you could be which dream. You could
(43:47):
be a pain in the ass about it, or you
could join me for the freaking ride. Jump on the surfboard,
let's ride the wave together. And that's where I find
the problem here, Like this guy gets an opportunity not
to coach some whack ass team, to coach the LA Lakers.
Oh no, Dan, let me ask Dan Bayer and Danny
g and Sam. But when I say Danny and Dan Byer,
(44:10):
did you guys have why your family? Bring your family?
I mean what if? What if all of a sudden
it was like, Hey, Dan Byer, there's a job at
the NFL network, or a job at ESPN or NBC
Sports or hey, Fox Sports said we want to give
you a radio and a TV show. But hey Dan,
we want you to move to the East Coast. I mean,
are you just so quick to be like, just what
(44:31):
we're doing, honey?
Speaker 9 (44:32):
No, there'd have to be a lot of discussions you
know that would take place family wise. I just don't
have the resume that Dan Hurley does to fall back
on what he and I'm not talking money, I'm talking
about college basketball. The three Pete what he's done at
Yukon to go back and be like, all right, that's
(44:53):
gonna be that's gonna be my move because nobody really
has that, you know, to fall back on.
Speaker 1 (45:00):
So it allows him I think you the luxury.
Speaker 9 (45:03):
Yeah yeah, if you had ninety nine percent of college
coaches and you know in college basketball that maybe little
high number, but they're all probably taking the job.
Speaker 1 (45:10):
But he has to be pretty pumped about that. I
guess fall back plan. I mean, to return to a
team that he's won back to back championships. Yeah, but again,
if his dream was to coach in the NBA and
you get that prestige of being the head coach of
the Lakers, I feel like, yeah, he's putting his family
first and there's no shame in that. But I also
(45:31):
feel like maybe there's more to it where I mean,
we might not know the rest of the story Rich
where it is a thankless job and he doesn't want
to get that criticism of coaching Lebron and dealing with
that sort of situation that he put it. I'm looking
on the TVs now and everyone's talking about the wrong thing.
Everyone's talking about, Oh, the right choice? Was it more
(45:51):
about the Lakers or Yukon. They're talking about that on
PTI right now. No, it's about let's be honest, it's
about his wife and family and those type of decisions. Dan.
He said how stressful dealing with the Lakers would be.
Danny G. Do you think the expectations might not be
worth making that move when he could be the hero
at Yukon? Still? Do you think Brenda, your wife is
on standby if something big were to happen.
Speaker 2 (46:11):
We actually talked about this yesterday when the Hurly report
came out about him being impressed and all that. I
asked her and she said, I would follow you anywhere
because I love you and I want things to work.
Speaker 1 (46:25):
This is what you do now.
Speaker 2 (46:27):
Then we talked about other family members though, who are
more stuck to the city they live in because of
kids or family, and there are people like that. In fact,
we joke about Gary Ganeu the Golden Bachelor, Remember yeah,
he had that nationally televised wedding. They're divorced already. Why
did it not work out?
Speaker 1 (46:44):
Because they don't.
Speaker 2 (46:45):
Neither one wanted to move exactly because they both had
kids and grandkids where they lived, so they could not
figure out who was going to move to each other's state?
Speaker 1 (46:54):
Take politics aside, right, her political views from each state.
You're not asking someone to move to a third world country.
You're asking them to move to Los Angeles, right, So,
I mean, give me a break. I had this fight
my whole life with my ex. I'm like, I'm not
asking you to move to as my dad would say,
outer Mongolia. You're going to New York City.
Speaker 2 (47:19):
It's not like the bus family don't have private jets
that they would lend to him once in a while
to go fly to the East Coast to visit her family.
Speaker 1 (47:25):
But it's where some people are so stuck where they live.
Think about people in.
Speaker 2 (47:30):
Your family who just it's so hard to get them
to even come travel to visit you, let alone think
about them moving.
Speaker 1 (47:37):
How about this, dude, would you get in the way
of your woman's dream? Ever? So, if Andrew Hurley and
I don't know her personally, she could be the greatest woman.
She's from Jersey, Im from Jersey. So I love her
just based on that. But don't you think she should
also be encouraging him to be like, look, dude, this
is your dream. I'm not going to get in away
that I have a question, so he has to take
accountability that he just doesn't want to go put it
(47:59):
on her isn't fair because any good person I would
never want to stifle and get in the way of
my significant others dream of whatever it is that they want.
So I think I don't think she would do that.
I think there's some lack of accountability as to why.
I'm sure that is part of the reason, but I
(48:19):
feel like there's more. But let me ask you this.
Though we talked about us being three thousand miles away
from where you grew up and where I grew up,
and you know your family's out here, now mine is
out here. You know your family, but your parents, your siblings.
It doesn't dawn on you that, like you know, the
idea of like what if Andrea Hurley? And again, I
(48:39):
don't want to make this about her, or like I
don't want to make her. I don't think it is
all I know. But I'm saying I don't want to
make her the punching bang of this conversation because she
represents a lot of what people would do, would prioritize,
but not a family what if Andrea Hurley? But it's
something you know you might have to do. What if
Andrea Hurley says, yeah, we live in Connecticut. Honey, you're
making tens of millions of dollars as a coach at
(48:59):
Yukon or a legend there. You just want back to
back every other weekend. We could see Your folks are
my folks in Jersey. They're getting older, Our kids want
to be near their grandparents. There's a million things versus
the glitzing glamor of LA. Then don't then just say
it's about you know, not wanting to move to LA.
That's sort of one of the factors. I'm just saying, like,
(49:20):
you know, yeah, But then don't blame it on the
on the wife.
Speaker 2 (49:23):
You have to wonder too, what his long term goals
and what his vision is, because it could be that
he's thinking, let me finish what I started here at Yukon,
let me repeat and then hopefully the nets or the
NIXT job will open up. Colin Cowherd, who you've been
impersonating in this segment, he alluded to that over the weekend,
wait for the next job. Now, I don't think Fibbs
is going anywhere anytime soon, right, No, he said, that's
(49:46):
what he would he would that's the advice he would
give to Hurley. Now there's already rumors though that the
Knicks are going to extend Thibodeau, So who knows.
Speaker 1 (49:55):
Let's say Tips gets a couple of year extension, Hurley
plays out his Yukon con Let's say the Knicks just
failed to get out of the first round of the playoffs.
Moving forward and they're like, all right, a couple of
years from now, they make a change. If he keeps
it up at Yukon, this might not be his only chance. Cavino,
I it's a tough one. It really is, because there
is that balance of what's most important career, family, and
(50:17):
I think the biggest factor is if he was Lakers
or continue at your Division three no name school. That's
one thing, but it's Lakers or continue to be the
most cool coach in college basketball.
Speaker 5 (50:28):
Marriages are a partnership. Yeah, there's two inputs, and I
know one person obviously, you know, leads the charge here
and there. But you still have to have the input
of a marriage. Butker says one is in the kitchen.
Speaker 1 (50:40):
I know. Yeah, Butker said, here's the bunker chrime that
he goes tell Andrea to make him a sandwich and
zip it. But I said, that's it. That's inappropriate. The
hero who saves lives. That's inappropriate though, kidding, kidding, but hey,
your thoughts like, it's not It's not like he lost
his job and is now looking anywhere he can go.
When he's going to land in la. He still has
a job. He doesn't happen, does a great job, defending
(51:04):
a great job. Yeah, and they're gonna bump up his
pay right. Our buddy Wes hit us up and he said,
Dan Hurley wants no part of that headache known as
lebron And if there's something to be said about that
or just coaching with those expectations, then that should really
(51:27):
just be the story and say, hey, I'm happy where
I'm at. I appreciate the offer. You know, all the
speculation about how he'd get a divorce, even if he's joking,
you know, that's not the real reason he's he's happy
in Connecticut. Look, I don't like the Celtics.
Speaker 2 (51:43):
I'm a Lakers fan, so obviously growing up in the
eighties and nineties and rooting against uh Larry Bird and
McHale and Ange and all those guys. Still, I know
the Boston Celtics job is a great job because of
their organization, and so even though I don't like the
Celtic I would never say, what a crappy job, don't
go to Boston. But this seems like a lot of
(52:05):
low hanging fruit where people are taking pot shots at
the Lakers and Lebron because it's easy.
Speaker 1 (52:10):
But it is a stressful situation. I can't deny that,
no doubt. But Lebron's only going to be there for
a few more seasons. But I'm sure the thing is,
you know, based on that line of thinking, like is
the risk worth the reward? But historically the pay is there,
and historically, like coaching the Lakers is like, that's the
that's like again, that's like getting the job to be
the manager of the Yankees.
Speaker 2 (52:31):
It's a well, it's set a lifetime opportunity. What's your
confidence level as a coach? Hurley demands respect, whether it's
Lebron or another superstar. I think Hurley's the kind of
coach that would get that respect.
Speaker 1 (52:43):
Maybe it's just not the right time, and you know what,
maybe maybe he does. Wait, like you said, and Colin said,
maybe the Nets or Knicks or the Sixers or something
opens up in that area, maybe even the Celtics, and
maybe five years, ten years, respeculate maybe he knows something
we don't know. Maybe he has gotten word to hey,
stick it out and you're you're the guy of the future,
and to be honest, like you don't know, you know.
(53:05):
It sounds like the terrible sat thought, but we always
talk about every time you see your parents. As you
get older, the countdowns on how many more times are
you going to see them? How many more? You know,
seeing your family is super valuable, and you can't downplay
if his wife Andrew is like, hey, listen, our family's
in Jersey in Connecticut. Given the ausis on Sorry theory
on how many times you see your family? Sorry, says
(53:28):
how am I supposed to do a radio show when
it's so cold? Say that? And he also says that
let's say you see your parents or your family twice
a year, right, let's say they live another five years,
You're gonna see your family ten more times. It's a
terrible thought. And if you play that Ausi's on Sorry math,
(53:50):
then it does make you want to spend more time
with your family. Yeah, so you also got to take
your opportunity. Yourch makes it a different decision.
Speaker 5 (53:57):
There will come a day where you will wish you
could trade all the money in the world for one
more day with like a parent.
Speaker 1 (54:03):
Yes that day, I mean think about it. You're going
You're going home for Father's Day weekend because you had
an opportunity with serious XM, but also to see your dad.
Yeah right, yeah, so keep that in mind. All right,
let's go to dB for an update. Dan buyer.
Speaker 9 (54:19):
Guys, the big news is the news you're talking about
Dan Hurley turning down the Lakers job, likely to stay
at Yukon getting a six year, fifty million dollar extension
to stay with the Huskies and try to win a
third straight national championship. ESPN reported that the Lakers offered
Hurly six years, seventy million dollars and they hoped to
have a head coach prior to the NBA Draft coming
up in a few weeks.
Speaker 1 (54:40):
Darvin Ham's joining.
Speaker 9 (54:41):
The Bucks as a top assistant to Doc Rivers, while
christophs Porzingis was getting his leg looked at. Today gonna
do some imaging on the leg that forced him to
leave last night's game too late. In the contest a
game to victory. By the way, that is the Celtics
up two.
Speaker 1 (54:54):
Oh.
Speaker 9 (54:54):
Porzingi said afterwards that he is not missing game three.
Speaker 1 (54:58):
I think because look at the clock, and I hope
he's not mad. But we're gonna push back iron Mike
Trivia just don't have enough. But yo, what's up? It's up.
Just security was about to walk him in. Don't act
like you're like you're like kicking me out, because the
truth is fact worth three donation. I have my author
they're flaring up, So don't act like you're running the
show and you're gonna call the shots. The truth is
(55:21):
that you don't have the time right now because I'm
not feeling that good. Mikey, you rescheduled the fight on us,
so we're going to reschedule the game on you. No,
I'm just not feeling well. Okay, we get it, so okay,
So I'll be back tomorrow if I feel like it.
The bathroom, the Sultan, I called the shots ulcers, but
I'm having Claire up. I'm having flare up. Warm milk, Mike,
take some more milk. You're kicking okay, let let me
(55:44):
let me, let me hit you in mind we're not
doing Mike Tyson iron punch spot on the shoulder. I
don't think Mike like the bad one, like you dismissing him.
He's saying it was his ulcers. Okay, I'm sorry. Now
instead of iron Mike trivia, let me hit you up
with one Rando trivia question before we get out of here.
(56:04):
On this day seventeen years ago, it was arguably one
of the more memorable series finales of a show we
all watched just to show you how time is a flying.
What happened on this day seventeen years ago, back in
(56:27):
seven today, last episode of Friends. No, well, I'll give
you hit, right, I'll give you a hit. You were
aggravated soprano. Don't stop. Believe man, you thought you're a
TV cutout because I remember it's remember all of a sudden,
it was like, don't stop, what the hell? Scream up?
Everyone's like a someone hit the remote. We were so
(56:51):
in shocked that we couldn't comprehend what happened. And it's
so obvious. Hey guys, spoiler alert. Seventeen years later, Tony
got whacked family. It was by the guy in the
members only jacket. I know that and that's why I
went I like out. I like the theory that we
as the listener. Yeah, I think we got whacked because
(57:14):
they're showing that guy. I think there was an episode
leading up it was members only jacket or something like that.
Guy walks in with the members only jacket, wax Tony.
We don't see it end of the series, end of
the show, but we were too dumb to understand that.
I think I think we the viewer. Let me, let
(57:34):
me why would we have gotten whacked? He got whacked
because it makes sense of that we were caught across from.
Speaker 7 (57:40):
You knew.
Speaker 1 (57:43):
You knew well in that case, whacked doctor Melfie too.
I don't know. No, he got whacked the front of
his family at the diner by the guy in the jacket,
and we're sitting there speculating it when the truth is
right there in front of our face. It's exactly what happened.
But we were all aggravated seven teen years ago today, which,
by the way, you might have to say to yourself,
(58:03):
you know it's been long enough because Spot rewatched and
said it still holds up. It's I never watched any
of those episodes over again, so it might be time
to talk. I have a theory on there's so much
content these days, but that watching something more than once
a movie, a show or anything just seems like all
that content doesn't include Paulie Walnuts. They don't make shows
(58:25):
like that.
Speaker 6 (58:25):
I know.
Speaker 1 (58:26):
I watched The Office like five each episode five times. Yeah,
but I was saying, that's a little different. I'll tell
you why, because how I make my mother, Yeah, how
I met your mother Seinfeld? The Office? Everybody loves Raymond.
Like we're talking about these like syndicated shows that you
could have on in the background and not really pay
attention to right Like, I know it's coming, it's just
like tune in. I feel like if I were going
to watch Sopranos again, I'd want to like actually watch it.
(58:48):
But I don't. You feel like there's so many shows
you missed along the way. Before you watch Sopranos for
the second time, maybe watch Sons of Anarchy for the
first time. Maybe watch another show that you've never watched.
The why like shows that we've missed along the way
instead of watching something over, you know what, we used
to watch the same stuff over and over. You know why?
I thought about it? Now you know why why did
(59:11):
we used to watch the same stuff over and over
because there weren't a ton of options Now, yeah, but
the options stink unless you want me to backtrack, like
you said for Sons of Anarchy or The Wire, those
are older shows, a right, like they're rewatching a season
of The Bachelor. Yeah, but what I'm saying is we
don't quote movies anymore. We don't rewatch things because there's
so much new stuff all the time when we were
(59:33):
kids as a risk when most of us stinks. So
when we were kids. The reason why we all know
the same episodes of Growing Pains is because it aired
over and over, because it was repeats, repeats, repeats. I've
never asked my point. It's been seventeen years and I
couldn't tell you. Like Spott'll bring up an episode, I'm like,
I don't really remember that because I only saw it once.
It was a one and done thing and we loved it.
I think enough time has gone by where you can
(59:54):
check it out, you know, before you go to bed.
Oh every week, But you know what I find myself
doing most of the time, wasting my time trying to
find something I like, and then I don't like it,
and I'm bored, and especially the new stuff. I don't
like it. At least I know I like this.
Speaker 5 (01:00:08):
You're also watching it through today's lens, but through today's
method of watching, like you can binge it. Back when
it was first on, like there used to be years
in between seasons and things were spread out, you forgot things.
It's like now you can just watch them start to finish.
Speaker 1 (01:00:19):
I don't know, it's it's it's rough for me to
think about rewatching something when there's so much great stuff.
All three of us, all five of them, they probably
have not watched yet. You still watch a lot of garbage,
which is hilarious. Yeah, come up, Perfect Match too, Perfect
Match Too is fine television that tires get out anything
you see how any hot piece of booty you're on
that show. I'd rather watch Sopranos. Change the game on
(01:00:42):
this day, you watch a show from the nineteen hundreds,
I'll watch a new show. All right. We'll see you
guys tomorrow. Until then, see you in the promise. Ata
go hey, hey, Goba, gol goa goal
