picked people and sends them some goodies. So we are
gonna play a game in a little bit. Be dialing
eight seven seven nine nine on Fox if you want
in on that game. We're gonna talk about JJ Reddick
(01:36):
and Lebron in a second. I have some thoughts on that,
but Danny g well, you might be a little glum
that the Celtics have eighteen ships now to the to
the Lakers seventeen. They yeah, but I mean, isn't it
really eighteen eighteen because you won the nd season tournament.
Speaker 3 (01:55):
I mean, not really good.
Speaker 4 (01:56):
I'm looking back, but looking back, Rich that we'd create
a little bit of talk and buzz at the time
because usually during that part of the sports calendar, we
weren't really paying attention to the NBA all that much.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
You know, I will back up that sentiment for sure,
but you know how they say a presidency, you can't
really judge it until years later.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
Times over. We talked about it at the time.
Speaker 4 (02:18):
Actually we said, let's wait till the season's over and
then we'll see if we care about it or not.
And the answers like, we probably don't.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
Not to be negative, Norberto or Debbie Downer.
Speaker 3 (02:28):
Wah wah.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
But you know the Celtics holding that trophy up, and
you know Tatum, yo, I'm the greatest with his kids.
Speaker 4 (02:35):
You know, Celtics, I'll trade you two nd season tournaments
for the one Larry O'Brien trophy.
Speaker 5 (02:40):
Did Lebron like seriously say, like at least we won
the NCS and tournament when they were knocked out?
Speaker 3 (02:44):
No, no, I swear I heard.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
That DV any significance of the n season looking back
at a.
Speaker 6 (02:50):
Full and not only that, I and I I don't
even remember talking about it, guys. And then my team,
the Bucks, made it to the final four and they
lost to the Pays. I don't know if it's if
it's because we were in southern California and that because
the Lakers were in it. It was a topic, but
I still think football is dominating our minds.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
Danny, you gotta keep that banner up in the at
crypto or what.
Speaker 4 (03:13):
Well, you know, you know that the NBA pressured the
Lakers a little bit to put that up because they
wanted it to be legitimized by the Lakers organization in Lebron.
So I think that at least the story goes that
Jenie Buss wasn't a fan at first of putting that up.
I did ask an NBA in sadder and I forgot
who it was because of the Pacers run. And then
(03:36):
we saw what they did in the postseason and making
it to the Eastern Conference Finals. I asked kind of
half heartedly, but I said, can you take anything from
that run of Indiana?
Speaker 6 (03:48):
Did it carry over for them into these playoffs? And
it was a resounding know that it had nothing to
do with it. Whatever I will.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
Say, it'll be I think the first time it'll mean
something is when a team both and you can then
argue that they just dominated the whole NBA season. If
the same team wins the in season and the NBA title,
you could say, yo, that year was just clearly all
I don't know, Nuggets.
Speaker 1 (04:13):
You could say that.
Speaker 4 (04:13):
Now, Rick Carlisle did say that at that point of
the season is when he spoke to his team about
playing at least good defense for them to finish the
season and get to the NBA playoffs. So it was
at least a point of demarcation where he could tell
his team, if we want to do better than this,
this is how we're going to do it.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
Your thoughts at Covin on Rich eight, seven, seven, nine
to nine on Fox, The The In Show, Best in Show, Now,
the n Season Tournament in the NBA title clearly two
different levels of importance, but.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
You know, one hundred different levels.
Speaker 1 (04:46):
Yeah, let me tell you about Danny.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
At least you got you know, that's something like the
most positive person on earth would be.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
Like, well, at least you got the d season, come on,
come on now.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
But hey, you know at the NBA in the rear view.
And then tonight you know what tonight is? No, not
my softball game at seven thirty NHL Stanley Cup Finals.
So maybe the Panthers walk away tonight, so we shall see.
Now there's a concept of not necessarily concept, but there's
(05:15):
those people in your life that you're always concerned that
they're going to ruin the surprise, Like, I don't know,
Maybe it's like like, Mom, you know it's a secret
writer to certain people.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
You know, you got loose lips. You guys accuse me.
Speaker 5 (05:27):
Of this, don't Yeah, if you want everyone to know something,
just tell Rich saves you the trouble.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
Now, J will today so matter of fact, he spoke
on ESPN as if JJ Reddick was the official new
head coach of Lakers.
Speaker 7 (05:44):
And I feel like you have the Los Angeles Lakers
that are trying to figure out with JJ Reddick, a
first time head coach, we with some all the bets
of luck with Lebron James in his twilight years. Granted
they're still there, they still have a chance a could ten,
but I mean, you're going to give the edge to
Boston in a really big way.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
And I missed the memo here it's official.
Speaker 2 (06:02):
I mean, I know Dan Bayer said it's in the works,
and it looks like it could be, but there's no
official word yet, right Dan byro on JJ.
Speaker 6 (06:08):
Reddick in the nothing official, there's another Lakers insider who
said that the deal is done. Anthony Irwin is the
one that reported that. But to the point of the
reports that was Actually, one of them that I'm referring
to is if j will is saying it, and it
was also mentioned pretty much by Mike Breen last night
during the broadcast. It sure seems like it's a done deal.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
Now.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
It brings up two layers to this conversation. You want
to share a story where you put your foot in
your mouth, you ruin the surprise, you announced someone's pregnancy
for them. You told some girl like, oh yeah, oh
your guy didn't give you the ring yet? Oh forgot
I said that, like, did you ever blow a surprise
where you felt like a big, huge ass.
Speaker 1 (06:52):
You can hit us up with that.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
Or the second layer of this is if jj Redick
is the guy, which all reports are making it seem
like it is. I know Doug Gottlieb and Steven A
there was some there was a little debate on whether
or not other head coaches are mad, and Race got
involved in this said, I don't want to get into that.
I want to get into the idea of working for
(07:15):
a peer and the sticky situation that could be as
we all get older in the workforce, right like when
you're entering not only the NBA, the NFL, Major League baseball,
hot dog gatting. You know the four majors in your
own life. When you enter the workforce, you're eighteen, twenty
(07:35):
twenty two, twenty five years old, Chances are your boss,
your manager, he or she is established, they were a veteran.
You're taking orders in commands from someone who's been there,
done that. Now when you're a first time head coach
and you've seen this in radio, Danny G. I'm sure
there's been times where you're like, you know that program
director is younger than me, or someone gets their opportunity
(08:00):
on your sales team and you're like, there were you know,
we're boys. He's my boss, now she's my boss.
Speaker 1 (08:07):
She was my intern.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
This happens in all industries. So do you think there's
a weird underlying vibe that will exist on the Lakers
permanently that JJ, Reddick and Lebron are not only boys,
but like they got the podcast doing and JJ they
played in the league together. Is there something there that
(08:30):
rubs you the wrong way? Or do you think it's
so case the case if.
Speaker 3 (08:35):
The team wins.
Speaker 4 (08:36):
I don't think it's going to be an issue if
the team stinks it up with him at that spot,
then there might be some underlying resentment.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
Like if you watched Winning Time.
Speaker 2 (08:46):
I know it was based on a true story, not
totally true, but remember when pat Riley took over the
Lakers on the show and in real life in the
early eighties, there was that moment where the team looked
at him too much as like one of them.
Speaker 1 (08:58):
Like yo, Riley, you know, because he was.
Speaker 2 (09:00):
The up and comer assistant who helped out and made
his way up up the ranks.
Speaker 3 (09:04):
He had to go crazy and punch the chalkboard.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
He had to punch a chalkboard, loses s, you know,
go little nuts, and.
Speaker 3 (09:10):
Then put like his hand.
Speaker 2 (09:12):
People then had to be like, oh, y'all, Riley's for real,
Like you know, I'm not your boy, I'm your coach
and Dan Byer your thoughts. Do you think there'll be
that learning curve with JJ Redicks listen on TV on podcasting.
He's a know it all, he's likable, some people don't
like him, he's knowledgeable, but again he is a peer
to some of the guys in the league.
Speaker 6 (09:32):
Yeah, I think that it would be in JJ Reddick's
best interest to do whatever Lebron says, because that is
the reason that he's being hired, correct, I mean like
that's so the so the point where JJ Reddick stands
up in a practice and I don't know, lays into
Lebron for something he's lost. Lebron and nobody else on
(09:53):
the team believes that JJ Redick probably would have gotten
the job if it wasn't for his relationship with Lebron.
So I actually think for JJ reh case, and it's
different than maybe an assistant who is building up and
worked in a system for so long. I think that
JJ Reddick really has no choice but to do kind
of what Lebron wants to do. And if there is resentment,
(10:13):
tough beans, because that team is probably going to go
as far as Lebron and Anthony Davis takes them.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
It's an interesting thought because we've all been there, right,
unless you're a twenty seven year old kid fresh in
the work world.
Speaker 1 (10:26):
We've watched our bosses.
Speaker 2 (10:27):
You whatever you do for a living, truck driver, doctor, lawyer, teacher.
You've watched your superiors go from people that were your parents' age,
they were your elders, they were people you looked up
to to now like I respect the hell out of
our boss. Our boss is ourge here at Fox Sports Radio.
That's an interesting dynamic that you finally hit right at
(10:50):
Serious XM. One of the women that run the channels.
I'm on Pop two K, the two thousand channel. Choose
my intern back in the day. So it's like you
start to see, like what we worked together, we're peers,
and now you're you're running things. And I just think
that based on what Dan Bayer said, what if they
are to practice and this is so sleazy, But what
(11:11):
if what if JJ was like, Yo, Lebron, I'm gonna
be tough on you. I gotta I gotta laid on
the table. I got I gotta show this team on
the alpha, so follow my lead. Is that sleazy or
is that like a good move by JJ Reddick say, Yo, Lebron,
I'm gonna yell at you.
Speaker 1 (11:29):
Don't don't take it to heart.
Speaker 2 (11:30):
But if I don't assert my dominance, I'm gonna lose
the young guys.
Speaker 3 (11:35):
Is he a better actor than Lebron?
Speaker 1 (11:38):
I mean you hope? So if this is gonna work.
Speaker 6 (11:40):
Here's the other thing with like and I was just
looking back and trying to think of a different situation,
or you're looking around the NBA if maybe you have
a coach, let's just use the pacers. We were just
talking about them. Let's say Rick Carlisle steps aside and
Tyry's Halliburton gets to pick his coach. Tyry's Halliburton is
not Lebron James. This is true, so it is a
(12:01):
different sort of rule. So like Austin Rivers and whoever
the supporting cast would be, I think would understand what
is going on and how it's going to play out.
But I also think that JJ Reddick is going to
have a different role of just being the traditional coach.
I just don't think not that Lebron knows all. I
just think that you'd have more problems if you try
(12:22):
to veer away and do your own thing, because the
reason that you got the job was your relationship with
Lebron James.
Speaker 2 (12:28):
Are we looking at this too much from a silly
fan perspective, because that's what we are, and you know
I'm broadcasters. But within the locker room, these young guys
admire Lebron James. So I think maybe they'll be less
of an issue than we might think, because if the
young guys respect Lebron the way they should, right and
(12:49):
JJ Reddick's doing a great job. I think it might
you will get that way, you can say, oh, this
could work just fine. It does make me think of
one thing this ever happened in the NBA. Correct sorry
for my ignorance on this, but in baseball, remember the
days of like player manager like Pete Rose and guys
were wearing both hats.
Speaker 3 (13:09):
Yeah, I mean Russell did.
Speaker 1 (13:13):
Yeah, Lebron's like that light right now.
Speaker 2 (13:15):
Don't you feel like there's, like you said, Lebron has
major influence at this stage of the game.
Speaker 3 (13:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (13:20):
Yeah, I mean that's the tricky part of it as well,
because I think Dan Danny would even admit that too
much Lebron influence has been a problem. But if you
don't have Lebron there, then it's going to be difficult anyway.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
Like to think that at one point in our lifetime,
we always say how it's crazy to think, you know,
Bo Jackson was doing what he did in multiple sports.
In our lifetime, we watched guys in baseball manage and
play at the same time. The fact that Pete Rose
was like, I'm gonna play, but I'm also the manager.
It's a wild thought to think that you could do
those Roles, and you could say there's certain veterans that
(13:55):
are the light version of that. Now Aaron Rodgers in
New York, Randall Cobb were getting him and doing this.
You know, you start calling the shots and you're Lebron
or Aaron Rodgers. Are you sort of player coach?
Speaker 1 (14:06):
Light? Like under the radar?
Speaker 3 (14:08):
It's the same thing.
Speaker 6 (14:09):
Can you do them? But can you do them well?
Like you can do them both? But is that are
you doing them well?
Speaker 1 (14:14):
If it works? Yeah, genius. If it doesn't, bad news.
Speaker 6 (14:17):
Just a quick one on that. I'm curious on Danny's
thoughts as well. I think that JJ Reddick will also
have to navigate and maybe this is the biggest piece
of all is you have Anthony Davis coming off of
a second team All NBA season Lebron was third team,
where this kind of now needs to be Anthony Davis's team,
but you still have to satisfy Lebron. Like that's the
(14:39):
balance that I see that JJ Reddick is going to
have to strike at some point, which I would hope
that Lebron understands, especially with his age and where he is.
But instead of more of getting guy eight, nine and
ten on the same page, in that locker room because
that's not going to matter if they win or not.
I think that's the dynamic that maybe JJ's going to
(15:00):
beefully for them have success with.
Speaker 4 (15:01):
Yeah, and what is the contract extension going to look
like for Lebron because that's going to play a lot
into moving forward. What is going to happen with Anthony
Davis maybe being the leader of the team in JJ
Reddick's role because once Lebron's gone, and then does his
role with the team change because Lebron's his big brothers
not there anymore?
Speaker 2 (15:22):
Doesn't the players and team are always going to say
we want to win. The goal is to win. You know,
fans and analysts will have different opinions. You as a
Laker super fan, d energy, you watch day in and
day you watch every game, die hard.
Speaker 1 (15:35):
Do you look at this as a.
Speaker 2 (15:37):
Longer term project for JJ Redick or do you think
with the core of Ad and Lebron both aging, that
you could still build around them and win a championship
or do you think that ship has sailed?
Speaker 4 (15:48):
That's the big question mark because JJ Redick doesn't have
a resume coaching in the NBA, so we just don't
know how that's going to play out.
Speaker 6 (15:56):
I think that ship is sailed, but you can't. You
can't leave the doc without Lebron and Anthony Davis, if
that makes any sense. The point being is, we just
saw in an NBA Finals where we felt Dallas had
the best offensive tandem that.
Speaker 3 (16:10):
We've seen in NBA history. Wasn't that the you know what,
was besting back court ever? Yeah?
Speaker 6 (16:16):
And then got cooked, you know, by a team that
you know, had seven or eight guys that just play
unbelievably well together. And I just I don't think it's
a two man show. But the Lakers aren't going anywhere
without Anthony Davis and Lebron playing at their best. Then
you obviously need the other guys to fill in. But
that's the I think that's the n and the yang
(16:36):
of it is, Yeah, you need the other guys because
they can't carry them themselves. But whether they taking up
so much air that nobody else can even breathe to
help their team.
Speaker 2 (16:45):
Well, you know what, there's a bet right now that
you can make in Vegas. There's another layer of this
is JJ Reddick on board with Bronnie James being on
board because right now Bronnie to the lake is plus
one point.
Speaker 1 (17:01):
Fifteen in Vegas.
Speaker 2 (17:02):
Everyone feels like it's automatic that somehow he just ends
up with Pops.
Speaker 1 (17:07):
And is that something JJ Reddick's cool with? Because I mean,
I know.
Speaker 2 (17:10):
The coach doesn't have final say, but does does the
organization say? You know, JJ just just does a rub
here too, that we're gonna take Brownie in the draft
because if he's trying to build the future, what if
he doesn't feel Brownie's part of that feature. So there's
so many layers here. I can't wait to see how
it unfolded. I'm sure you feel the same way. But
uh hey, JJ Reddick, Lakers looks inevitable your thoughts at
(17:34):
coven on rich and if you want to be dialing
now the numbers eight seven, seven, nine nine. On Fox,
We're gonna play a little game in honor of the
Celtics winning chip number eighteen last night. Boston market Worker
or obscure Boston Celtic as you said, spot really leaning
into these food games. We got that next right here.

You getting ready.
Speaker 2 (19:52):
For our new game that's sweeping the nation even though
we haven't played it yet. Boston Market or Boston Celtic
seven seventy nine to nine on Fox.
Speaker 1 (20:01):
If you want in a couple quick notes.
Speaker 2 (20:04):
I know we're gonna get to Dan Buyer's update in
a second, but I'm sure he will not include these
silly stories.
Speaker 1 (20:08):
But a couple of things I saw in the world
of sports.
Speaker 2 (20:11):
Did you see the low budget NHL desk compared to
the NBA. Did you see that meme going around yesterday
to show that they're saying ESPN and networks care way
more about basketball than hockey. They showed this elaborate setup
for the NBA Finals, and the NHL has the equivalent
of a folding table. It's like folding table TV set.
(20:32):
It's a big difference. But then again you could argue
hockey is it what the NBA is. Connor McGregor saying
he is not in rehab. There was rumors that he's
missing UFC for rehab. Nope, not the case, and h
just a reminder don't drink and drive Timberlake style. Good reminder.
He has no Donald Trump in his headshot. He's very stoic. Gee,
(20:54):
he should have done more of it trump face and
the other thought.
Speaker 3 (20:58):
His attle really last really quick though, Rich.
Speaker 4 (21:02):
Maybe the NHL will get an improved table next year
for the Stanley Cup Final.
Speaker 3 (21:06):
Their ratings are up.
Speaker 1 (21:08):
You know what, that's what happens. WNBA knows the same thing.
You want more money, you want more nice things.
Speaker 2 (21:15):
Ratings, baby ratings, and one other quick note before we
start our game. I know we got Scott in Wisconsin
lined up to play Scott. Howie Mandel, who you might
know from Bobby's World, you might know him from AGT,
you might know him from Deal or No deal, his
wife took a terrible fall, and she she's apparently gonna
be all right. But in Vegas apparently they were saying
(21:35):
she was really drunk and fell, but he's saying, no, no,
she was just really high on edibles. So be careful
either way, if you've had one too many cocktails or
one too many gummies, you can fall in your head,
So be careful.
Speaker 1 (21:48):
All right, let's play a game, shall we. Boston Market worker,
Boston Celtics player.
Speaker 2 (21:55):
Is impeccable day yeah, wow, Boston market top of it.
Speaker 4 (22:00):
It is an audio collage man, Boston Market worker or
Boston Celtics player. Now, these really are obscure role players
throughout the Boston Celtics franchise history.
Speaker 2 (22:11):
Danny g is just we keep coming up with these
games because Danny, he's like, some of them will finally
get picked up by a network.
Speaker 3 (22:17):
You know, how are you the the w n B.
Speaker 4 (22:21):
A game got picked up by this and then work
on Fridays. I know, I love Covino won and he's like,
that's it. It's gonna be every Friday I won. All right,
here we go. Uh so you guys know how the
game works. Spot is going to keep track of the
points in the eight rounds. As long as Scott in
Wisconsin doesn't come in last place, he walks away with
a stainless steel ce n R swiggy.
Speaker 3 (22:39):
All right, you ready? You ready, Scott? Yes?
Speaker 8 (22:43):
I am not right?
Speaker 1 (22:44):
What Scott? What do you doing Wisconsin besides something with cheese?
Speaker 3 (22:48):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (22:49):
Eat a lot of cheese pretty much where I'm a
CI manager for food.
Speaker 4 (22:58):
I'm in Jane.
Speaker 2 (23:01):
Hey, Scott, let me tell you a quick thirty second
story of an experience we had in Wisconsin which left
our buddy here Spot hating me still to My wife
is a big Packers fan. So we were in Wisconsin
and I insist. I'm like, we have to stop and
get her a cheesehead. I wanted to get her the
foam cheese head. I'm like, I'm like, what type of
husband would I be if I didn't come back with
a cheesehead? So we stop at this place they're selling
(23:24):
cheese heads. We also buy some actual cheese. Spot's like, fine,
you finally got your cheese and your stupid cheese head.
Speaker 1 (23:30):
Let's go and I go.
Speaker 2 (23:31):
Spot open the hatch of the suv that we rented
so I could put the stuff in the back.
Speaker 3 (23:36):
He goes, oh fine.
Speaker 2 (23:38):
We're driving down the highway in Wisconsin, and all of
a sudden we're like, oh no. We look in the
rear view Spot's computer bag and everything is downd is.
Speaker 1 (23:47):
Tumbling down the highways.
Speaker 2 (23:49):
The doors open, all of a sudden we see a
cheesehead tumbling down the highway and Spot hated.
Speaker 5 (23:55):
Me for a good but my laptop, all my money,
id your past passport?
Speaker 3 (24:01):
Like come on, yeah, the real question is did you
recover the chief head? Right?
Speaker 1 (24:04):

is that I got home within a day. My dog
ate it. So there you go. Sorry, move on.

Speaker 3 (29:22):

Speaker 4 (29:23):
And finally Rich, Boston Market worker or Boston Celtics player
Ben Clyde, Ben.
Speaker 2 (29:32):
Clyde, Ben Clyde, an eighty Celtic. That's saw a very

Speaker 1 (30:06):
Now the moment of truth. Did Scott come in last place? Spot?
Speaker 3 (30:09):
You know this is tricky because we have a tie.
Speaker 1 (30:12):
We have a we have a three.
Speaker 3 (30:14):
Way tie for last place technically and has been.
Speaker 1 (30:16):
Is Scott one of them? And Scott is one of those?
Speaker 2 (30:19):
No, Scott wins surprized because this game is so ridiculous. Scott,
You're going away second and Iowa, Sam's coming first. Every
time we played the game, won last Friday. Yeah that
was last last Friday. But still look at that from
last to first. Ye first, Iowa say, I'm the American dream.
So Scott, we are going to mail out a swiggy
(30:40):
to you.
Speaker 8 (30:41):
I appreciate it, man, I love you guys, guys, great,

Speaker 3 (31:08):
What's up by the way in Boston? Do they just
call it the market?
Speaker 1 (31:11):
Like, do they need to do they call? In France?
Speaker 10 (31:13):
Do they say, all right, guys, we're about hour and
a half away from face off and game Yeah, Game
five of the Stanley Cup Final.
Speaker 3 (31:25):
I was doing my math in my head.
Speaker 6 (31:27):
Game five Oilers at Panthers eight o'clock Eastern time. Panthers
up three to one in the series.
Speaker 2 (31:32):
We know we're playing tomorrow. We're playing Panther or Panther
trainer at the zoo.
Speaker 6 (31:38):
The drinking part is we're about an hour and twenty
three minutes away from eight o'clock Eastern time. The clock
on the ESPN broadcast said one hour forty two minutes
to face off, and I'm like, wait a second here,
I've been saying eight o'clock eastern.
Speaker 3 (31:53):
All day long.
Speaker 2 (31:54):
That's the pregame officials, the pre game that you they
sun that table.
Speaker 3 (31:59):
Yeah, actually showing face off the movie before the game.
Speaker 6 (32:04):
Oh, that'd be great. I've never seen it, by the way,
but I know what you're talking about. They exchange faces.
Astro's pitcher Justin Verlander on the fifteen date. I l
he has neck this comfort. Marlins and Cardinals right now
playing a wacky affair. It was three to two after one.
Cardinals have just taken a four to three lead in
the top of the second inning. Runs a plenty. In
(32:26):
South Florida College World Series Florida State, they meet North Carolina,
eliminating the tark Heels Knowles around to the semi finals.
Kentucky versus Florida has been postponed. Turkey beat Georgia at
Euro twenty twenty four. Portugal scored late to beat Checchi
a two to one no Killian and Bape for France.
He'll miss Friday's match against the Netherlands because of his
(32:47):
broken nose. Clippers matted official Jeff Van Gundy is joining
their staff as the top assistant to ty Lou Lakers
will reportedly hire JJ Reddick as their next head coach,
and guys ratings are in for Game of the NBA
Finals last night between the Celtics and Mavericks, twelve point
two four million average viewers, down from last year and
(33:09):
the year before. Last year, the Nuggets won their Game five,
clinch the series in beating the Miami Heat. It is
up from twenty twenty one when the Bucks beat the Suns.
Of course, that was later on in July. It was
a COVID year, but twelve point twelve million viewers watched
last night's Game five between the Celtics and Maths, down
from the previous two years.
Speaker 1 (33:28):
Little upside of dB.
Speaker 2 (33:30):
You know, you know, in five Celtics legacy team, but
you know, Mavericks, big audience in Dallas.
Speaker 1 (33:36):
But I feel like people were sort of checked out
of that series. I agree so completely. So thank you, dB.
Speaker 3 (33:40):
Appreciate you man.
Speaker 2 (33:41):
All Right, listen, we got more Cavino and Rich next.
I thought about the NFL and Babe a little baseball.

Thursday is the first official day of summer. I called
BS on that and I'll tell you why I'm going
against the actual official ruling rights podcast. What is it
the solstice and all that crap. Yes, if your kids
are home rich whatever, it is, midsummer whatever. All I'm
saying is if your kids are homer, if your kids
(35:30):
are home from school, if you're putting on some block,
it's ninety degrees, there's a heat wave in the Midwest
and the East Coast, and you're going to the beach
and you're in your pool.
Speaker 1 (35:42):
Kenny, tell me it's not summer yet. It's nonsense. You
respect the lunar calendar. I don't respect the lunar calendar.
Speaker 6 (35:48):
Dan Buyer's beef in the studio about two weeks ago,
wasn't it, Sam? For really Yeah, the first weekend after
Memorial Day, the first Friday, I'm like, this does feel
like a summer Friday.
Speaker 3 (36:00):
And then it is.
Speaker 6 (36:01):
Sam jumped in and said, this summer doesn't start for
like three more weeks.
Speaker 1 (36:05):
Boy, he goes for the He've been tony reality step with.
Speaker 4 (36:09):
Actually, actually the summer cars are on the freeways here
in southern California.
Speaker 2 (36:14):
Yeah, let me tell when traffic patterns change, and you know,
booties are out on the beach and you're putting you
wearing flip flops around.
Speaker 1 (36:21):
It's summertime. I don't care what anyone says.
Speaker 4 (36:23):
Your nose picking kids are eating you out of house
and home already staying around the house all day.
Speaker 2 (36:28):
Dude, If you grill outside more than in the kitchen,
it is summer. There's there's factors. When baseball is all
you're watching, is everything else is wrapping up? It's summer,
like you know, we're let's not let's not confuse.
Speaker 1 (36:41):
It is lunar calendar.
Speaker 2 (36:43):

Expresspros dot Com. Now listen, we only got a couple
(37:05):
of minutes. But NFL. I feel like it's hard to
go a day without talking about what everyone loves the most,
which is the National Football League. You're seeing all the
little transactions and interactions and reports from OTAs. Everyone's very
invested in their team. In fact, everyone you talk to
is already thinking about football.
Speaker 1 (37:25):
I'll name drop I work on the Pop.
Speaker 2 (37:26):
Channel on Series XM, the two thousands channel, and I
had to do an interview within sync and Chris Kirkpatrick.
All he wanted to talk about was the Steelers, because
he's a big Steelers guy. And he's like, Yo, let
me ask you, though, Richie, what do you think fields are?
Speaker 1 (37:42):
Russ?
Speaker 2 (37:43):
I'm like, dude, your guess is as good as mine.
I feel like Russ as he's found the fact of youth. Anyway,
people all want to talk about football. But one sentiment
Danny g You and I were talking about yesterday that
we've talked about on the show for the last couple
of year since we've been working together, is the ridiculous
(38:05):
narrative of a guy being done when it doesn't work
out right away. Like we've seen these guys play in
high school or college. The scouts have watched them every
step of the way. The draft board has him as
a number one rounder, first rounder, and they don't work
out after a year or so, and we love to
be like that guy's done. Like done, guy guy's a
(38:29):
young man in life. He's twenty three, twenty four, and
we're already deeming some of these guys done. And there's
just two players that are emerging right now as whoa
hold up, wait a minute, are they not done?
Speaker 3 (38:41):
Hold up?
Speaker 2 (38:43):
Hey and Danny g One of those guys is Sam Donold.
Speaker 3 (38:47):
Oh yeah.
Speaker 4 (38:48):
We talked a lot about him last season because of
course he was coming from year niners.
Speaker 2 (38:53):
And there was the sentiment that God forbids something to
happen to rock partys are pretty confident that they could
have had a successful run with Sam Donald. We forget
that his first two stops. Again, I get it, a
great player can make adjustments, But could there have been
two crappier landing spots than the Jets and the Panthers
(39:15):
for Sam Donald?
Speaker 3 (39:17):
Absolutely not? Yeah, awful.
Speaker 2 (39:20):
So is it crazy to say that McCarthy's going to
hang for a little bit and Sam's gonna get a
legit shot. Donald will be your QB one for the
foreseeable future Because I'm seeing those reports.
Speaker 3 (39:31):
Yeah, I've seen him as well.
Speaker 6 (39:32):
I think it's guilty by association, and in this case
it's a good thing for Sam Donald. But you want
to talk about first, second, and third chances. Now, I
think he did fare better in Carolina when they brought
Baker in and then Donald was going to be the
backup and Donald ended up kind of replacing Baker and
Baker was cut loose to go to the Rams for
his short stint. But it reeks a little bit of
(39:54):
Mitchell Trubisky when he spent the year in Buffalo. Took
like six total snaps. But people are like, spent a
year in Buffalo, this is gonna be the guy. And
then he was basically the same guy that he was
in Chicago when he was in Pittsburgh.
Speaker 3 (40:07):
That would be That would just be my one one concern.
Speaker 2 (40:10):
So in a world where the NFL has fifty storylines
you could get excited about. And I'm sure weekend host VJ.
Husky's already writing down his hundred storylines for the new season.
Guy love to make lists. I feel like this is
a storyline that we could and should talk about. Listen,
there's so many more exciting ones. But Sam Darnald and
(40:33):
getting a third shot, you know, three strikes are out?
Speaker 1 (40:37):
Could this be.
Speaker 2 (40:39):
Where Sam Donald shows the world who we thought he
might have been five plus years ago?
Speaker 1 (40:46):
With the Jets.
Speaker 2 (40:47):
So that's an interesting storyline. And another quarterback that, my goodness,
this guy like to say he looked done was an understatement.
And that's Zach Wilson on the Jets. And they're saying
right now while on Peyton played a koy at the
draft and said he was up to Shenanigan's because they
really wanted bow Nicks all the time. The whole time,
they're saying that Zack Wilson is out playing bon Nicks
(41:09):
and he is turning heads at Broncos camp.
Speaker 3 (41:12):
Okay, we heard he tore it up in Jets camp.
Speaker 5 (41:15):
I know.
Speaker 1 (41:15):
Is that we am I just talking?
Speaker 2 (41:19):
We just losing my mind to even say this that
Zach Wilson looks looks perhaps that we're we're judging him
on a Jets stint as should be.
Speaker 6 (41:28):
He should be beating Bonix, like that's the natural progression
if you're like, in no disrespect to bon Nicks, but
I don't know if b Nix has it. And you know,
like a guy like Joe Burrow does, a guy like
Justin Herbert does. I don't know if he does, but
I think Jack Wilson should be beating him.
Speaker 2 (41:44):
So Zach Wilson, Sam Darnold, two guys, let's be honest,
two Jets. And you know what, it makes me think
that Mark Sanchez, who's always been a cool guy to us,
you know, maybe a little underrated because the Jets seem
like a cursed organization for quarterbacks, Like I mean, other
than Namath who won one before we were all born,
(42:06):
what comes to mind, Chad Pennington, Vinning, Testa Verdi like that.
There's been far and few great quarterbacks in New York.
Mark Sanchez took him to the playoffs a few times
and pretty far. So Uh, we shall see what happens
with Aaron Rodgers this year, but so many great storylines
in the NFL. Can't wait. Uh, we will see you
back here tomorrow, Covino's backs. We'll have a full crew.
Anything you miss at coven On Rich until then, I'll
(42:27):
rive it there, Chie baby, see you
