Like you said, it's Friday, let's do it.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
Thank you guys for being here. It's been a fun week.
Let's end on a fun note. We have lots to
get to. We have weekend hobnobbing what you need to
watch in the world of sports and entertainment, getting you
ready for the weekend. Plus, we'll play some games, maybe
giveaway some prizes. We're gonna talk NFL the most family
(01:27):
friendly teams, what do you think they are? We'll get
to that. But Rich, Yeah, we got to make this
very clear. I think we're all recovering to some degree
from yesterday. We all have a bit of a political
hangover today, right, hangover?
Speaker 5 (01:45):
Right, we all.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
Watched in disbelief. We all felt some type of way.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
I know I did.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
I was watching with my teenage kids. She was like,
is this real life? And I'm like, yeah. So I
gotta make it very clear that our first conversation of
the day here on The Coveno Rich Show is politics aside. Okay,
this is just our observations about people. Politics aside. It
(02:13):
doesn't matter. We're not trying to make anybody mad, because
it's really not the point of the discussion. If you
want to chime in, you got something to say, by
all means, we're open to it. At eight seven, seven
ninety nine on Fox. But politics aside, what eye witnessed
last night was sad on a human level, not political level,
human level, because we all know somebody who's a little
(02:35):
old that probably shouldn't be out there doing what.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
They do, right, a mess, It's true.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
I mean, there's always a family member and it's like
hey Grandpa, Hey uncle Fred, hey Beneezer. You know you
worked hard, but maybe it's time relax, enjoy yourself, feed
the ducks. And I'm not trying to be mean, not
trying to be rude at all. Like I said, it
was sad.
Speaker 5 (02:58):
What's mean.
Speaker 3 (03:00):
There was one moment last night in the debate again,
vote for whoever you want.
Speaker 5 (03:05):
I don't care.
Speaker 3 (03:06):
You know, this is a place where we're just hanging
in bs and and having fun. Right, But if you
watched last night, there was a moment where Biden said
something and I was like, what did he say? And
then this is what Donald Trump said, and I think
the world felt this way. I really don't know what
he said.
Speaker 1 (03:20):
At the end of this sentence, I don't think he
knows what he said either.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
So based on that, and you know, like I said,
just sad to me on a personal human level. Yeah,
based on that, our first thought here on Fox Sports
Radio is there's a lot of people in life, a
lot of people in sports that overstayed their welcome. Just
(03:47):
so happens we're seeing it on a very big stage.
At least that's how it appeared.
Speaker 5 (03:51):
Right.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
Everybody has a bad night too, if you want to
be fair, we heard he had a cold. I mean
right from the get go. Rich you had to notice
that his voice was all if something was off, not right.
So hey, let's just say he had a bad night too.
But we all know and have experienced and have witnessed
athletes or just anybody that overstayed there welcome. And the
first person that comes to my mind is Muhammad Ali,
(04:17):
the goat, one of the greatest of all time, if
not the greatest of all time, because again, he stayed
around so long where he was getting a little punchy man,
he was losing the guys like.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
Well Larry Holmes. You know, Larry Holmes.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
Was a great fighter, but still he stayed around too
long where I'm not saying it tarnished the legacy, but it.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
Hurt to watch.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
Listen again, it's the last time we'll say it, because
we're going to get into this and have some fun
with it. But it's really less about politics more just
human observation. Even after the debate last night, Democrats were saying, like, yo,
should they be scrambling around for someone new?
Speaker 5 (04:55):
Like even going into the.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
Debate, the question is, these are two guys that will
be a by the end of this.
Speaker 5 (05:01):
And it's like, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
I have a bunch of people in sports, entertainment, music
that I'm like, Yo, it's it's time.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
Yeah, And look, everybody ages differently, and you gotta, i mean,
maybe commend the fortitude of these athletes and these people
for wanting to push forward and wanting to do the
right thing and holding on to what made them great.
A lot of times they're the last to know. But
that's when somebody has to step in and do it
the towe right And that's what makes you scratch your
(05:34):
head about what you saw again last night? Or you
could say, I will Sam, I know you have thoughts
on this too. You could say maybe it was a
bad night all around. But if you want to tie
sports into it, like I said Muhammad Ali, and that
that's one of the answers. Because you saw the greatness,
you knew what the greatness looked like, you knew how
sharp he was at one point how invincible he seemed
(05:55):
to be. And even though he was the greatest of
all time, you know, yeah, he lost along the way,
but he stood around too long.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
Too long.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
Now I got one in music and one in sports
that stand out to me. Last year I was in
Nashville and I saw guns and Roses.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
Oh and let me.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
Tell you the fighting words more than your opinions on Biden.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
Last night.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
Carrie Underwood opened for Guns n' Roses. She came back
out to sing sweet Child of Mine, and that was
the most glaring moment where it's like, Yo, Axel Rose has.
Speaker 5 (06:36):
No voice anymore.
Speaker 1 (06:37):
Yes, I get it.
Speaker 5 (06:39):
Gen R is awesome. Who does it? Love some MULDI
school Guns and Roses.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
But the fact that they're still put on shows and
people are buying tickets, God bless them.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
But it is not you know what, rich to be
fair to you could say it's a testament to their
previous greatness. It's hard to maintain that, right, like who
is better than Axel Rose? Who is better than Vince Neil?
You can't really keep that up your whole life. There's
exceptions like Sammy Hagar. The guy's one hundred and eighty
years old, I don't know how he hits those high notes,
(07:08):
but when you were hitting those high notes at that
young age, you're setting yourself up in the future to
fail because how are you gonna do that?
Speaker 1 (07:17):
It's hard to keep up.
Speaker 3 (07:19):
There's exceptions of people that play and for form at
a high level older Tom Brady, Lebron James, you know,
Bartolo Cologne. There's guys that just found a way to
play and perform later in life.
Speaker 5 (07:32):
But I you know, one of my is your off queen.
Speaker 3 (07:35):
Yeah, one of my heroes grown up as a kid
is another example that comes to mind. Not Alf, not
Joe Montana.
Speaker 1 (07:43):
Who riches heroes? Mmmmm Uhdink the clown.
Speaker 5 (07:49):
No, I don't know what you're gonna do. Let me
tell you.
Speaker 3 (07:53):
There was a point I was the biggest little Hulka
maniac kid with my workouts set red and yellow.
Speaker 5 (07:59):
I love Hulkogan, don't you marry him?
Speaker 3 (08:03):
When I was a little kid on my wall before uh,
Cindy Crawford and Carmen Electra took over, my posters were
Gary Carter, Joe Montana, and hul Cogan.
Speaker 5 (08:14):
And there came a point in wrestling.
Speaker 3 (08:15):
Where it just became unbelievable that some young rip dude
can't beat up the old ball guy, Like, come on, hard,
I can't watch yeah, Hard, it's hard to believe what
hul Cogan is in the ring with his super tan
dad belly, and it's like, you tell me the rock
can't beat.
Speaker 5 (08:35):
The hul Cogan.
Speaker 2 (08:36):
Now again, we made it clear, this is politics aside.
This is on a human level, human observation of maybe
maybe maybe maybe they're both sticking around too long, but
one more evident than the other last night. That's the story.
You don't get mad at us if you disagree, now, then.
Speaker 3 (08:53):
Give me the Vegas odds just to prove the point
so it doesn't seem like you're one sided for sure,
for the gambling fools out there Las Vegas. You know,
Biden Trump, we're pretty even going into this debate as
far as poles and who's gonna win Joe Biden after
last night's debate to win the presidential election is plus
three eighty, meaning bet one hundred to win three eighty.
(09:15):
It turned sideways for that dude last night. So just
just to give it a little backup where it doesn't seem,
you know, like you're and I don't.
Speaker 2 (09:23):
Think anyone feels good about that, even if they're against
Joe Biden, because, like I said before, on a human level,
seeing anybody that once did great things or just was
a great guy, or maybe it was your grandfather, seeing
them get old and they're not as sharp as they
used to be, or they had a bad night, or
they slipped a little bit.
Speaker 1 (09:43):
That's just said and relatable.
Speaker 2 (09:44):
So it's not like you're watching and getting any sort
of thrill that Trump won. I think a lot of
people looked at it and related to seeing their their
heroes fall a little bit like, yeah, ma eyone.
Speaker 5 (09:57):
Is not everyone is.
Speaker 3 (09:58):
Dick van Dyke. I saw an interview with him lately.
The guy's almost one hundred and he's still like with it.
Speaker 1 (10:04):
Those guys are exceptions to the rule.
Speaker 3 (10:06):
Rich William Shattoner, Betty White before she passed away. There's
very few people that stay with it. Who did I
see the other day? I'm drawing a blank. It was
some old guy that hasn't been seen in like a decade,
and he was out with his younger wife.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
Come on, filling the blanks. Hmmm, he's thinking of Hoosiers?
Is he thinking of a There was some old guy
that has.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
The photos of him. Yeah, no, yeah, he's alive.
Speaker 2 (10:34):
Still, Yeah, he's alive, and him up because he was
photoed recently shopping.
Speaker 5 (10:39):
That was it.
Speaker 1 (10:41):
He's one hundred and fifty.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
I felt terrible seeing the picture of him, like hobbling
around a supermarket. I got one for you. And this
hurts my feelings as a broadcaster. My goodness. We we
joked about it and I almost feel guilty that we
used to say happy dooey when they would wheel out
Dick Clark. Towards the end, I admire him as a broadcaster.
(11:06):
Who's who's more legendary than Dick Clark. But those last
couple of years, Eves Cavino, Danny g Spot, I was sam.
Speaker 5 (11:13):
They were rough, like the guy who were amend them.
Speaker 2 (11:15):
But at the same time it was hard to watch.
I want to remember the yeah because of his knees.
Speaker 6 (11:21):
A famous NBA player comes to mind, and you guys
will feel me on this because he used to fill
the Madison Square garden when Patrick Ewing was on the
Orlando Magic limping around.
Speaker 1 (11:31):
That was hard to watch.
Speaker 2 (11:33):
Ewing post Nicks dude having that Sonics uniform is just
miserable to say, dude, I have that written down right
here because I'd say that's one of the top answers
on the board. Danny G no doubt. You know that
was sad for anybody. He's like, ah, he stood around
too long. Man, It's just but you know what, these
are things that they make movies about.
Speaker 5 (11:53):
You know, the guy had.
Speaker 3 (11:55):
This guy had one moment of greatness in his in
his final go which is why we forget how sad
the ending was. Albert Poolholz was a shell of himself.
Speaker 5 (12:08):
Towards the end.
Speaker 3 (12:08):
He had that home run derby at the All Star
Break that got everyone all pumped up, like yo, pool Holes,
And he had like a good month and a half.
Speaker 5 (12:15):
But the last couple of years, you.
Speaker 1 (12:17):
Know, he had his final year. It was the few
years leading up to it.
Speaker 5 (12:21):
Well, you know what it was.
Speaker 3 (12:21):
We talked the other day on our bonus podcast over
promised who's the greatest living baseball player?
Speaker 5 (12:26):
Now, I'm shocked we didn't even mention pool Holes.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
I threw him out there. Yeah we did.
Speaker 5 (12:31):
But you know what, Danny, it's uh.
Speaker 3 (12:34):
I think pool Holes would have been a great answer
if you erased the last couple of years of his career,
because it really did make you think, oh the guy's.
Speaker 2 (12:41):
Bet I'm with you, Rich. They always say the last
thing that goes your power, and he still had that.
But it looked like his feet were hurting as he
rounded the bases, you know.
Speaker 1 (12:48):
True.
Speaker 6 (12:49):
Yeah, remember he was playing for the Dodgers. He was
a little out of shape. Yeah, he still came up
in some clutch moments. They called him to called him
their uncle.
Speaker 2 (12:57):
But yeah, so let's take some phone calls. That's going
around the room. I already mentioned the greatest of all time,
Muhammad Ali. Like here's the other part of it too,
Like I remember cousins and uncles telling me as a
little boy, Yo, that's Muhammad Ali. And I'm watching as
a kid, like he's getting his ass beat. He's the greatest.
Trevor Berbick's beating him. And you know, because he fought
(13:20):
into the eighties, Rich, I don't know if a lot
of people realized that.
Speaker 1 (13:23):
And here's another one.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
I remember my uncles and my cousins being like, Yo,
that's Peley.
Speaker 1 (13:29):
You see that dude.
Speaker 2 (13:29):
That's pe dude. He was on the cosmos. I'm like,
that's Pele. He was on the Cosmos. As an old guy.
You know, these are famous answers, and who else comes
to mind? Some could say, again, when you're measured by
your own greatness, that's also the reason why it's so
significant and evident as you get older. Like Michael Jordan,
(13:50):
dude on the Wizards. You could say he stood around
too long. You could say that, or he could say, yeah,
but he was still pretty good.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
He's still averaged like twenty eight points a game.
Speaker 7 (13:58):
Man.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
But again, when you're measure by your own greatness and
you're Michael Jordan looks sick.
Speaker 3 (14:02):
That's that's the great point to you measured by your
own greatness. Because you could say that about a Vander Holyfield.
Speaker 1 (14:10):
Oh, dude, without a doubt.
Speaker 2 (14:11):
Remember he fought who was it that he fought, like
Belford or somebody he fought somebody random recently, like with
in the past three years, and he got knocked out
of the ring.
Speaker 7 (14:21):
Dude.
Speaker 5 (14:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (14:21):
And in sports sometimes it has to do with injuries
just as much as the person's age. For like, think
of Joe Namath with your Niners Rich. He was a
shell of himself. He was limping around. He was only
like thirty four years old at the time, and he
got picked up by Waivers, by the Rams and like
dudes like that held on too long, but they weren't
that old.
Speaker 8 (14:41):
Like, if you're going to retire, both both the greats
Jordan and Brady, if you're going to retire and then
come back out of retirement, you better come back with
a vengeance. Because if you're if you're making the choice
as a great to retire, you should probably stay retired.
That's just my thought.
Speaker 2 (14:59):
You know, it's always tough because they had that fighter's mentality, right,
But it.
Speaker 8 (15:03):
Tarnishes your greatness because you came out of retirement.
Speaker 2 (15:06):
But here's the body boy, what they always say in
one of the sports, in any occupation, it's your legacy
to tarnish. But you know, we as fans are the
ones cheering you on and noticing that. But it's still
their legacy. And who are we as fans to tell
them when to stop. We just wish I think someone
closer to them, like their wife, like Biden's wife, like
(15:29):
like someone in a family, any of these people.
Speaker 1 (15:32):
She didn't seem to help last night. Yeah she did,
she helped them off the stage.
Speaker 6 (15:35):
No, but after when she told them he did a
great job because he answered all the questions.
Speaker 3 (15:39):
Repeps, dude, I mean, give the guys ice cream cone
and call today. I just I thought of another as
we're talking about this, and again, Cavino, your point makes
me think all different things because we're talking about that.
People only apply in this conversation if they were great.
So it's like a compliment that the same time you
(16:00):
were so great.
Speaker 2 (16:01):
Like I said, politics aside, think of how much, just
how far he went in politics, right, Joe Biden.
Speaker 1 (16:09):
Did a lot of things for this.
Speaker 5 (16:11):
He was vice president and president.
Speaker 8 (16:14):
I mean he was part of the first Continental Congress,
so you could think what you want about his politics.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
Second, we all saw something last night that made us
think about this stuff.
Speaker 5 (16:25):
I mean, he was our fifth father. He just missed right,
So commed on.
Speaker 3 (16:31):
I got another that again, because they were so great,
sometimes you just fall off.
Speaker 5 (16:37):
Bendanian.
Speaker 3 (16:38):
Tomlinson went from the number one pick at everyone's fantasy
draft year after year after year, and then just like that,
he was trying to get carries on the Jets.
Speaker 2 (16:50):
Yeah, for some generations the real LT of course, we
don't think that as Lawrence Taylor, but it depends who
you ask.
Speaker 3 (16:59):
Oh, you know, the wrestling one got a couple of
people hitting us up. Our buddy, Sean Weller, what's up
Sean listening in La on the app? He said to
go with Hogan. The other legend the fact that Rick
Flair still hangs around now listen, when he goes to
locker rooms and pumps up guys on a football field
like whoa.
Speaker 5 (17:17):
That's one thing, whoa.
Speaker 3 (17:19):
But when Rick Flair was still trying to wrestle, like
a couple of years ago, like come.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
On, Luckily those are just tributes and it's wrestling, but
it is still I want to say, hard to see
because that's in the world entertainment, but it's still like, oh,
I mean, he's an old guy and you just missed
the younger version of that.
Speaker 1 (17:37):
Dude.
Speaker 2 (17:38):
Hey, Danny G you're a good person, asked because he
stood around so long, you credit this or do you
think he's he stayed he overstayed his welcome. Vince Carter, No,
I think that he's an exception. You think because he
was still playing decent basketball even towards the end. He
is he accepted like his role as a YAH player,
(18:00):
right exactly, all right? But I threw him in there
because everybody knows how long he played.
Speaker 6 (18:05):
Okay, you know, and to Spot's point about you know,
they should know when to say when. I think it
also depends on your body of work. Because do you, guys,
when you think of Magic Johnson, do you think about
his failed comeback? Do you think about Dion Sanders as.
Speaker 5 (18:18):
Part of the Raven heavis failed the talk show?
Speaker 6 (18:22):
Yeah, but it's interesting, right because there's certain players where
like Jordan, we do think of him in a wizard's uniform.
There's other players who had comebacks and we don't really
fault them for that.
Speaker 1 (18:30):
We don't think about him like that.
Speaker 3 (18:32):
Yeah, you know what I thought you were going to
ask Danny g Kavin. I thought you were going to
say some say Kobe Bryant. I mean it's people never
want to say anything negative about Kobe because he was
a good dude and he passed away and he ended
on that amazing last game. The last couple of years,
he sort of set the Lakers back a little bit.
Speaker 1 (18:50):
Now, Yeah, well, injuries were a part of it.
Speaker 6 (18:52):
The big contract, that huge money Genie Buss gave him
was the bad taste in everybody's mouth that we're NBA fans,
But because of that final what was at sixty point game,
It kind of was swept under the run.
Speaker 2 (19:05):
That's the beauty of new blood. And who said it
that politics needs new blood?
Speaker 1 (19:10):
Oh?
Speaker 6 (19:11):
Robert Griffin, iid tweeted that last night, where are the
younger politicians at? That was kind of the overwhelming takeaway
no matter how you vote. I also saw a comedy writer.
She posted, I think America should just be single for
a while, really find itself, do some inner work. That's
from Sarah k Runnels.
Speaker 9 (19:31):
Well.
Speaker 2 (19:31):
I would never say anything disparaging about Kobe Bryant, in fact,
the sacrilegious in sports and here in Los Angeles, but
by giving him all that money, it did get in
the way of some young blood and you know, getting
some young players, and some could argue the same thing
about Derek Jeter or any player who stood around too
long for their team, and you know, it's the right
(19:51):
thing to do to honor those legends. I get it,
but it did set them back maybe in those ways
because you need new blood people and it's a little
selfish to get in the way of that. And that's
why we bring it up today based on what we
saw last night eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox,
Covino and Rich what's up, Dicky.
Speaker 3 (20:13):
We've seen all types of athletes, politicians, actors, musicians, But you.
Speaker 5 (20:18):
Said you watched a lot of it with your daughter.
Speaker 3 (20:21):
Yeah, I can't imagine the perspective of a teenager or
a twenty year old, Like Dad, these are the two choices.
Speaker 1 (20:27):
Like, it's kind of hard to explain.
Speaker 2 (20:30):
And I'm sitting there thinking, I can't imagine growing up
watching Ronald Reagan debate somebody and they're talking about porn
scandals and having sex with porn stars, and like I'm
sitting there with my like she's like, okay, golf Game
one was just it's so golf was the best, yo.
But Sam, think about watching through the eyes of a
(20:52):
you know, I'm like, the country you got to carry
your own bag. Donald, I'm like, the country's supposed to
better than his, honey. Just so you know, it was
the general tournament, it wasn't the seniors tournament.
Speaker 6 (21:03):
I'm I'm glad you bring that up because our oldest
who's in college right now, his takeaway was where are
all the good ideas at? Like, where are the ideas
for our country? And the panel afterwards, same thing. They
asked him who won, and all of them said the
same thing. Nah, I don't want to answer that, but
I think America is the loser because they didn't really
(21:23):
answer any of the questions.
Speaker 1 (21:25):
They just covered old stuff.
Speaker 2 (21:27):
And that doesn't mean we think any place is better
than America. I don't want to go anywhere. I love
this country. But it's our observation from last night kind
of how we all feel. So athletes and other people
who you think stuck around too long as a result.
In some ways, it's a tribute too. Like I think
of guys like Julio Franco. How many years did that
(21:47):
guy play? Vince Carter played twenty two years professionally, how
many years? Just guess Julio Franco, and well look it up.
Speaker 5 (21:52):
The guy played totally. I think it was like forty
seven fifty.
Speaker 1 (21:57):
Here's a good question.
Speaker 8 (21:58):
Yeah, and we can take too pronged approach to this, Tyson,
are we going to have this discussion again in November?
Speaker 1 (22:04):
Goodness?
Speaker 5 (22:05):
Are we going to be looking?
Speaker 8 (22:07):
I hope not because I want him to pumbult Jake Paul,
but also and to backtrack with Tyson, who was he
fighting when he was Like I just.
Speaker 1 (22:14):
Don't have the fighting guts.
Speaker 2 (22:16):
I don't like Pete McNeely Tomato cans when he just
lost his his you know, luster his fight. He didn't
have anyone like he He just he said he did
it for money, right, yep, he just absolutely was fighting.
When you're just fighting for the money and no longer
for the love of the sport or whatever sport it is.
Speaker 1 (22:35):
Yeah, many you overstayed, You're welcome.
Speaker 8 (22:38):
But at least he had the wherewithal to be like,
you know what, I'm out.
Speaker 2 (22:42):
Yeah, at that point, you're disrespecting the game, disrespecting the sport, right,
So you got to know, like Danny g said, when
to say when, when to bow out gracefully, or you
have to have people around you to to help you
understand that is time.
Speaker 3 (22:58):
I mean, listen to to quote your dad, because your
dad says, everyone's always kissing ass?
Speaker 1 (23:04):
Why are you always kissing ass?
Speaker 3 (23:06):
I'm not saying this just so that no one thinks, oh,
they like Biden or Trump. I really do think any
young person, you know, if you're a guy, a middle
aged guy or woman, you've seen debates and you've seen elections.
If you're a younger person, you gotta be thinking, we're
like the forty fifty year olds from both sides, right,
It's almost like it's like a team hanging on to
(23:28):
a veteran quarterback that's not gonna win another one, like
go to the draft, get let's think ahead. And I
think we saw that last night and it just to
me was a little embarrassing.
Speaker 10 (23:40):
Listen, guys, I know people might be asking where are
the forty and fifty and sixty year olds on both
sides with good ideas. Americans are kind of to blame
for this because they decided to back Biden and then
decided to back Trump. They had other options during the primaries,
and they went with the two old guys. Again, you're right, Yes,
nobody's fault.
Speaker 5 (23:59):
What I was Sam, I'll beck I'll say this to
wrap it up. I feel as though the path to all.
Speaker 3 (24:06):
The other things we're talking about, sports, music, acting, there's
a lot of glory in that. I don't think there's
much glory in politics now because all you're doing is
putting your family, your friends and everything out there for display.
Speaker 5 (24:18):
Everyone picks apart. What you done was very corrosive.
Speaker 3 (24:22):
Like you're gonna be pulled into scandals and nonsense. And
I think that young people don't see a path of
politics is like a cool.
Speaker 5 (24:30):
One or like admirable.
Speaker 3 (24:31):
To be honest, I think it's gonna be hard to
find those great next leaders men or women.
Speaker 5 (24:36):
I really do.
Speaker 3 (24:36):
I think, why would you want to get into politics
when you know that you're just gonna get dragged.
Speaker 10 (24:40):
But you also need people who are young who are
just gonna stand up and take the brunt and get
this restarted, like you know, burn down the prairie and
start it over again.
Speaker 1 (24:52):
Yeah, let's make it clear.
Speaker 2 (24:53):
Politics aside people who overstay their welcome, athletes who played
too long. And for the record, Julio Frank twenty three
seasons in the big so at the same time, you
got to commend that.
Speaker 1 (25:04):
But we'll take your feedback and your phone calls.
Speaker 5 (25:07):
Julio Franco had the hugest as.
Speaker 3 (25:12):
Remember Julio Franco's batting stance his I mean, that's how
he stayed in the game, because he got all the
power from those glutes.
Speaker 5 (25:20):
On that then you need him on the Rich.
Speaker 1 (25:27):
Begin I think we should give Rich a few minutes here.
Speaker 5 (25:30):
Bro, I'm just explaining why that's the wallpaper on my
phone oh.
Speaker 1 (25:35):
What got it? Alright, so let me let me escape
here people are chiming in.
Speaker 5 (25:39):
Rich.
Speaker 2 (25:39):
We're going to get to the feedback into phone calls,
and we're also going to talk about the obligation to
help and support your friends.
Speaker 1 (25:48):
We talked to.
Speaker 2 (25:49):
Puka Nakua yesterday and there's a story about that. We
got more Cavino and Rich right here on Fox Sports Radio.

Yep, that's right, Plexico.

dot com studios. We are Covino and Rich. We're giving
away prizes today, so stick around. Are they a WNBA
player or Chipotle worker?
Speaker 5 (28:29):
All you have to do is not lose?
Speaker 2 (28:31):
Okay, that's it, so stick around for that eight seven,
seven ninety nine on Fox. We also have a question
based on our interview with Pooka Nakua, so you'll hear
a clip of that on the show.
Speaker 1 (28:42):
I'm Steve Cavino.
Speaker 2 (28:43):
That is Rich Davis, Danny g super producing, Iowa Sam
playing your favorite live band, Rich Guns N' Roses.
Speaker 5 (28:49):
Oh Man. I felt.
Speaker 3 (28:52):
So bad for Axel Rose when he couldn't hit those notes,
you know, to tie into the Biden thing, to tie
into athletes or politicians, actors, people that just need to
hang it up. It's it stinks. Uh, we all get old.
That's gonna happen to us. One day someone's gonna say,
care no, doesn't happen anymore, like it'll happen.
Speaker 5 (29:12):
I mean, there's gonna be a day that you're Clark Caliwna.
Speaker 2 (29:15):
You gotta give me the credit or whoever the credit
for still wanting to go out there and trying. But
that's when you need people in your corner that love you,
that care about you, to.
Speaker 1 (29:25):
Say you did a great job. You don't need to
do that anymore, you know.
Speaker 2 (29:31):
And again it's tough, it's never easy, but when it's
on a big stage, it's very evident. And I got
two more examples, two phone calls, and then we got
an update for you. Okay, you got it. I think
Apollo Creed stuck around a little too long. What do
you think he hadn't fought anybody, And he goes in
there with Trogo. Then he goes in there with Drogo.
(29:53):
It's terrible. Got to throw in the towel like the Duke.
You got it right, and of course Rich, I'm gonna
tie it into TV. It's not just politics or sports.
A show that we once loved. I mean we talked
about When I say we, I mean everybody in the country.
(30:14):
We talked about it every Monday.
Speaker 1 (30:16):
It put AMC on the map, walking dead, in my opinion,
stuck around way too long.
Speaker 5 (30:23):
Over state.
Speaker 2 (30:23):
It's welcome. He went from I loved it too. I
didn't care at all.
Speaker 5 (30:27):
There's a ton of spinoffs.
Speaker 3 (30:28):
There's still fanatics that are like, oh dude, there's a
Rick Rhymes.
Speaker 5 (30:31):
Now I'm over that. I'm also the.
Speaker 2 (30:34):
Same, same, same, uh So I want to wrap it
up with these phone calls.
Speaker 1 (30:38):
Let's do it all, right, Who do we got online?
Speaker 3 (30:41):
One?
Speaker 2 (30:41):
Danny Marley in New York State. Marley, New York State,
You're on the Covino and Rich show.
Speaker 11 (30:47):
Yeah, somebody that's in you guys is lying to work.
Speaker 1 (30:50):
Needs to hang it up.
Speaker 7 (30:52):
And that's Shannon Sharp.
Speaker 1 (30:54):
Your shirt workspace needs a gallup out of here.
Speaker 5 (30:56):
Okay.
Speaker 11 (30:57):
You know, I love I like the Wolf of Shepherds,
but he starts the dressing real weird, you know, sort
of like Cam Newton with the you know, come on
his head and stuff.
Speaker 1 (31:06):
He'll look like I thought you were going to say
somebody else.
Speaker 5 (31:09):
Yeah, I was gonna say.
Speaker 3 (31:10):
To be honest, I think that's a bad example because
he's probably in his peak right now.
Speaker 2 (31:14):
I mean that Club Sha is like a big deal.
That's a terrible exam to me. That's just a matter
of preference. I clearly you don't like the guy.
Speaker 10 (31:21):
I think Shannon Sharp has emerged as one of the best,
like most like, yeah, genuine credible talking heads out there.
Speaker 1 (31:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (31:29):
I think of older announcers. It was like when Brent
Musburger lost his fastball, even though we all love him.
The same with Chick Hern, the legendary Laker announcer, at
the very end, he was struggling a little bit. And
guys like that, because they're legends, we still want to
hear their voices on the radio and on TV, so
it's hard for us and them to let go.
Speaker 2 (31:51):
And I say this respectfully, you say legends a guy
that helped make this game what it is today. I
think most people have thought Howard Stern right there, because
his core fans feel like he maybe changed too much.
Even though there's another group of people that would say
he's doing his best work right now.
Speaker 3 (32:12):
Right that guy said, that guy said, Chad and Sharp.
Speaker 5 (32:15):
I thought he was gonna say his old co host
skip skip, Like.
Speaker 2 (32:20):
You know, I don't think he lost his ability to broadcast.
But sometimes maybe the game out grows you. I don't know,
time's changed too much. Like that's the beauty of David Letterman.
He realized that things were changing too much around him
that he said, you know what, I'm out. I'm gonna
do my own thing then, because this is changing too
much for me, and not everybody knows that or has
(32:44):
the wherewithal to do that.
Speaker 3 (32:45):
Man, that to me is always the best example. David
Letterman realized the world of social media and carpool karaoke.
Speaker 1 (32:54):
And social media eclips.
Speaker 3 (32:55):
You know, like singing with celebrities the way Late Night
was going. Dave's like, that's not me, retires at the
right time, and then re emerges and says, yeah, I'm
gonna do a cool sit down Netflix interview show and
it's fantastic. So some people know how to time these
things out. So props two more quick.
Speaker 1 (33:13):
One, last one. Who do we got Danny J.
Speaker 5 (33:15):
Hello, you're on the air.
Speaker 1 (33:16):
Let's go to Matt in SoCal Hey Matt.
Speaker 7 (33:20):
Eo Yo Cabino and Rich as always natural content backed by.
Speaker 8 (33:24):
Sincere Bs and apparently the Julio Franco fetish show of record.
Speaker 12 (33:29):
That's rich, that's rich, Yeah, real quick on Franco too.
Speaker 11 (33:33):
You're looking at literly baseball cards. I think he was
on that joos it up, Dietrich.
Speaker 1 (33:37):
Real Quick, Dominic Wilkins and Celtic Green.
Speaker 4 (33:41):
I don't know what his numbers were, but.
Speaker 5 (33:43):
Emmitt Smith in a cardinal uniform.
Speaker 8 (33:45):
And then on the flip side, shout out to you,
Barry Sanders, get out on time and you're one of
the greatest ever.
Speaker 5 (33:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (33:52):
I mean some say he too early, right, but better
than too late. I think I don't know. Think about
that conversation for an other day maybe, But it's all
based on what we saw last night, and we got
to get to an update.
Speaker 1 (34:04):
We got our guy, Isaac Low and krap he's still working. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (34:10):
Oh, he hasn't dipped away.
Speaker 1 (34:11):
He's still around.
Speaker 12 (34:13):
Our top story, Our top story. Danny g is now
dead to me after his sacrilegious remarks about chick hern
moments ago.
Speaker 1 (34:22):
Hey, I loved him like you did, but you know
It's true you did.
Speaker 12 (34:25):
You did not love him like I did. I'm about
to do.
Speaker 1 (34:28):
You see Winning Time, he wasn't very nice to the
people either.
Speaker 12 (34:31):
Yeah, Winning Time was fictional.
Speaker 1 (34:34):
It was a TV. It wasn't real.
Speaker 12 (34:37):
It was real, was not real live.
Speaker 10 (34:39):
He couldn't be like Jerry West would be like. I
don't like the way I was represented there.
Speaker 5 (34:42):
I hope.
Speaker 12 (34:45):
That that was unnecessary. I hope HR is going to
be open late this afternoon.
Speaker 1 (34:49):
Fells.
Speaker 12 (34:50):
Anyway, we started Major League Baseball, where the Philadelphia Affilies
have placed first baseman Bryce Harper and designated hitter Kyle
Schwarber on the ten day injured list, Harper with a
left hamstring strain, Schoreber with a left groin strain. In
the NBA, multiple outlets report the Dallas Mavericks trading guard
Tim Hardaway Junior and three second round picks to the
Detroit Pistons for guard Quentin Grimes. The Toronto Raptors will
(35:14):
reportedly sign guard Emmanuel Quickly to a five year, one
hundred seventy five million dollar extension. Multiple outlets reporting Golden
State guard Chris Paul has agreed to push back the
date that his thirty million dollars salary for next season
will become guaranteed from today to Sunday. That gives them
extra time to explore a possible trade. One final note.
(35:35):
This season, newly drafted Los Angeles Lakers' second round pick
Bronnie James will wear jersey number nine for the record.
He will become the sixteenth Laker to wear number nine,
a list that includes Nick Van Exell, Luel dang Raijon Rondo,
as well as such luminaries as Chucky Atkins, Larn Prophet,
(35:58):
and of course two nine NBA champion.
Speaker 1 (36:02):
Soon you way back to you, guys.
Speaker 2 (36:04):
Thank you, Loan cron And that leads us to the
other big debate today, And it's the story of nepotism.
So many people mad about this lebron James thing, and
it happened live on our show yesterday. Want you guys
to think about it?
Speaker 3 (36:18):
Yeah, I think I'll tell you what I think. I
think everyone's lost their damn mind and to be angry
at this Bronnie James story is absurd. We'll get to
it next. Your thoughts are thoughts. Let's have some fun.
It's Friday, Cavino and Rich right here on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (36:35):

what we're doing the uh? Dan Patrick? What's it called?
Not the hat trick, It's called the Dan Patrick Call.
Four shows the Hall trick four shows for DP first
week of July, and we're filling in for the Hurd
(37:49):
on the ninth. Just letting you know and happy to
be here. Always live from the ti iranq dot com studio.
Remember we're playing Chipotle Worker or WNBA Player next hour.
I always surprised. It's the best plus weekend hobnobbing what
you need to watch in a world of sports in
pop culture. But if you want to play that game,
hit us up at eight seven seven ninety nine on
(38:10):
Fox eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox, And you
can also hit us up at Covino and Rich. What's
up in Arizona? Rich, I'll tell you what's up?
Speaker 5 (38:19):
Hotter than Los Angeles. I don't know how these people.
Speaker 1 (38:22):
Left Freeda are trying to say, you got the bat Wing?
What's going on?
Speaker 3 (38:25):
Batwig Duck so so hot? Let me let me tell
you before we get to pookin Na Koua. We had
a really fun hang with pookin the Coua. I hate
it because I'm a Niners fan, so I hate the
fact that in La Ram is one of the nicest
guys we always We've caught up with him a few
times so something he brought up.
Speaker 5 (38:44):
We're gonna get to in a second.
Speaker 3 (38:45):
And by the way, anytime I referenced someone being hot,
can you please play John Sterling.
Speaker 1 (38:50):
Yeah, that's great. I love that.
Speaker 2 (38:52):
Oh so hot? Oh ow oh he is so hot.
Look at so tiny.
Speaker 3 (39:00):
I saw, you know, an old Palavar's a guy that
we've always had a good relationship with, a guy that's
always been very kind. Andrew Ceciliano, who was with the
NFL network, who was no longer with him. I saw
he was feeling it for rich Eyes and the other day.
So he'll get his next opportunity. But a really good dude.
We've seen him for years doing Sunday football. I saw
(39:21):
him walking along the beach very Colin Cowhart style, doing
like a selfie video, and he made a point that
I was feeling. So I don't need to give him
credit because I was thinking the same thing. But he
confirmed what I was feeling, which was, why is everyone
such a negative little biac about this Bronni lebron thing? Like,
(39:43):
I know, so easy, we should be celebrating this ridiculously
awesome story of father's son in the NBA. Imagine if
back when we were kids could be no. If we
were crying and being little babies about Griffy and Griffy
juwe like yo. The Seattle took an old ass ken
Graffy Senior and brought him on board and he played
(40:06):
with his son.
Speaker 1 (40:07):
Someone brought it up recently.
Speaker 2 (40:09):
No one said anything about Giannis bringing his brother to Milwaukee.
Speaker 1 (40:13):
It's it's no new thing.
Speaker 2 (40:16):
And Bill Burr actually brought this up on Bill marshow recently.
Like nepotism, come on with that. If your dad owns
a contracting company and you work for him, is that nepotism?
If your dad owned a dental practice and put you
through school and then you started working there, is that nepotism?
Speaker 1 (40:35):
You know, it exists everywhere.
Speaker 2 (40:38):
And the only reason rich that people are hating on
this is because they don't like Lebron James.
Speaker 1 (40:45):
It's that simple. It's the greatest way to advertise I
don't like Lebron. Is that simple?
Speaker 3 (40:51):
Yeah, because otherwise, Danny ch you're a Lakers fan, you
got your dude, you got connect who.
Speaker 5 (40:56):
By the way, I think this is great.
Speaker 3 (40:57):
He's wearing number four connect four Yeah.
Speaker 1 (41:01):
Yeah, so cool.
Speaker 2 (41:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (41:02):
I sent that graphic from the Lakers to you that
Jersey looks so perfect. I'm telling you, you guys are
exactly right about nepotism being all over the place in
every industry, especially ours. Look at Howard Stern his introduction
to radio. His dad worked in radio.
Speaker 2 (41:19):
His dad was an engineer. Yeah, I mean you know me,
I worked the vending route with my dad. He's to
carry cases of soda for my dad.
Speaker 1 (41:30):
Yes, my stepdad was unemployed for years. I was unemployed
for you see what I mean. Perfect.
Speaker 2 (41:36):
But the point is there's there's examples of this all
the time. If your father owned an automotive garage or
it was in the family secrets and he's working there,
you took over the company, Like that's all forms of
nepotism or does nepotism only matter when it's.
Speaker 10 (41:51):
In show business? Products? Very public? This is Bronnie and
Lebron that's why.
Speaker 2 (41:56):
And it's a high profile story, and Lebron's a very
polarizing guy, and that's why Garners all this criticism.
Speaker 1 (42:02):
Rich That's really it. Otherwise, it's a beautiful story.
Speaker 3 (42:05):
It's a beautiful story. And by the way, that lyric
I used to ride with a vending machine repairman.
Speaker 5 (42:09):
Was that about you?
Speaker 1 (42:10):
Oh yeah, yeah me and Cheryl Crow.
Speaker 3 (42:13):
Oh I thought so, but yeah, I just want to
put it out there. Well, could end it with that,
but it's amazing. It's just a proof. It's proof that
you hate Lebron James because everything about the story.
Speaker 5 (42:24):
Should be beautiful.
Speaker 3 (42:25):
It should be like, oh wow, the father's son Griffy,
Griffy Junior, now Lebron and Bronny.
Speaker 5 (42:30):
But no, you're a bunch of haters.
