Speaker 3 (00:43):
I had to get I had to get my Husker
news and huskred notes for fourth of July. And you
know what, as we get to your feedback of phone calls,
I just want to let everyone know I'm not in
Texas for Joey Chesnutt.

Speaker 4 (00:56):
I know you might have thought that because there's an update.

Speaker 5 (00:59):
Oh really, yea?

Speaker 2 (01:00):
Was that plain foreshadowing because I don't know what you're
talking about. I'll explain after we after we take some
phone calls, Danny g who we got, buddy.

Speaker 6 (01:08):
Let's go to Michael in South Dakota.

Speaker 5 (01:10):
Hey, Michael, what's up?

Speaker 7 (01:14):
That's thanks for filling in today. So of course everyone
is tuned in to learn about zoos today. Yeah, of
course you fellas know where the word zoo comes from.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
Yeah, zoo, believe zoo? I believe invent that was the
shows a kid.

Speaker 6 (01:32):
I don't know what zoology like, study of animals.

Speaker 7 (01:37):
We're on the right track.

Speaker 4 (01:39):
Zoolander. That's it so hot right now? Really really ridiculously
good looking.

Speaker 5 (01:43):
I don't know where it came from. Tell us zoo.

Speaker 7 (01:46):
I was expanding my night, my mind the other night,
and uh went down a little rabbit hole. But zoo
is short for zoological gardens.

Speaker 8 (01:58):
So fun fact.

Speaker 7 (02:00):
Now you're all smarter.

Speaker 4 (02:02):
Thank you. Thanks.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
So I was right, but okay, I appreciate that. Hey,
and if you missed, Rich had a trivia question on
this day in eighteen seventy four, the first of these
opened in Philadelphia.

Speaker 4 (02:14):
What was it?

Speaker 2 (02:15):
I guess Rich was expanding his mind too when he
read this fun fact and thought to share it, expanding
his mind in the form of edibles, because what seems
like fun in the moment on edibles is always different
the next day when you're in.

Speaker 5 (02:28):
For the Dan Patsis.

Speaker 6 (02:29):
I'm glad you brought that to an international audience.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
But it's okay because Rich has another tribute. You're telling me,
you're telling me that you're not intrigued at all.

Speaker 5 (02:37):
Hey, Rich, what does that have to do with the
price of bananas.

Speaker 6 (02:41):
It's like.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
All these trades and all these deals in Philly at
Rich's talking about the zoo get tied into Bryce Harper.

Speaker 3 (02:50):
He did, and Bryce Harper is doing the Hawk Tour.
He's injured. Paul George signed a four year, two hundred
and twelve year deal. Two hundred and twelve, not a
year deal. That's a Bobby Benniet type situation.

Speaker 5 (03:03):
I mean, like any trivia, any trivia is fun. So
it's all good.

Speaker 4 (03:08):
And by the way, I'll give you I'll give you
another trivia question.

Speaker 6 (03:11):
And we didn't ask me another one.

Speaker 4 (03:15):
Twit Sure, hold on, did you guys want another question? No,
you got it, you got.

Speaker 6 (03:20):
It, let's do it. Let's do it.

Speaker 4 (03:21):
What do you got you got it.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
Before we get into by the way, I want to
talk about Aaron Judge and glorifying the past, and if
you have any thoughts on what he's doing this season,
because it's insane, you can call us now as we
get ready for this fun Fact of the Day from
Rich Davis again eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox.
Another trivia question, Another fun fact.

Speaker 6 (03:40):
What you got, buddy?

Speaker 4 (03:42):
You don't like fun fact, Dickie, That's what I do.
I do?

Speaker 3 (03:45):
Okay, Well, how about this one I'll give.

Speaker 4 (03:51):
I'll give you, guys, I got two more if you want.

Speaker 5 (03:54):
Hey, let's go.

Speaker 4 (03:56):
I'll pace myself really getting carried away.

Speaker 6 (03:58):
I know.

Speaker 3 (03:59):
On this day in nineteen eighty two, a pretty legendary
streak started.

Speaker 4 (04:07):
What was that.

Speaker 5 (04:10):
A legendary streak in eighty two?

Speaker 4 (04:13):
Now when your dad ran through Union, New Jersey with in.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
His easy one easy because cal Ripman Junior's rookie season
wasn't eighty two and they won the World Series.

Speaker 6 (04:21):
Oh, I was gonna say Tom Selleck's mustache.

Speaker 4 (04:25):
That's gotta be cal Ripkin.

Speaker 3 (04:26):
Cal Ripkin Jr. On this day started his first of
many as he began the iron Man's Streak.

Speaker 5 (04:34):
And the story goes.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
You know, you think it's going to be easy because
he wins Rookie of the Year. He has this streak
the start of it, has a great season, they win
the World Series. He didn't sniff World Series ever again
that I know well, he never won again.

Speaker 3 (04:52):
Now, second question, because that was easy on this day
in nineteen ninety seven. You might have been in high school, college,
you might have been a kid.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
I gotta set myself in my Jinko jeans, rich whatever
whatever we were wearing in ninety six, what I was wearing.
I was wearing my Bob Vila limited edition Carpenter jeans.

Speaker 3 (05:14):
You were probably and you were probably had a carnu
Ar air freshener in your car.

Speaker 4 (05:18):
Ninety seven A little lame.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
I was maybe on the Jupe Fahrenheit sort of tipp okay, Yeah,
some curve back in ninety up.

Speaker 5 (05:26):
Yeah, it was good. So ahead, we're ninety seven, now nineteen.

Speaker 3 (05:31):
On this day in ninety seven, a professional athlete was
suspended for doing something, for doing something very odd, a
major suspension in sports, for doing something very unconventional.

Speaker 5 (05:50):
Ninety seven.

Speaker 4 (05:52):
I'll give you, I'll give you hint.

Speaker 5 (05:53):
Yeah, give me a bigger hint, Danny g come to mind.

Speaker 4 (05:56):
It involves the Fight Game.

Speaker 2 (06:01):
Ninety seven suspended doing something unconventional in the Fight Game.
If I tell you that, then it gives it away.
Mike Tyson, dude.

Speaker 3 (06:09):
In nineteen ninety seven, the Nevada Commission I suspected Mike
Tyson for biting Evander Holyfield's a year.

Speaker 5 (06:18):
I was kind of hungry that night, but Miter Holyfield
the wonderful man. He the wonderful man.

Speaker 6 (06:25):
I regret.

Speaker 4 (06:27):
All right, Well, I'm done with my trivia, but I
do have an update for you guys.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
However, though, Rich, I like the last two questions you posed.
It was better than the zoo one. Mike that when
that happened, that was the why You're right, that was
one of the wildest things we'd ever seen.

Speaker 6 (06:41):
At that time. You're like, he what, how desperate can you.

Speaker 4 (06:45):
Be in the moment?

Speaker 2 (06:46):
And when you look back, though, it does again in retrospect,
in hindsight, you're seeing holy Field, who had a thunder
his dome, You're seeing him headbutt Tyson the whole time, right.

Speaker 6 (06:57):
And I saw that from Tyson's view, and I saw that.

Speaker 5 (07:00):
I didn't at the time.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
So at the time I'm watching just waiting to see
Mike Tyson unload, Like when's he gonna knock him out?
You don't see that Holyfield is rough you do now,
But I'm saying in the moment, you didn see Holyfield
just roughing him up, and you just thought of him
as such as a good dude. You didn't realize how
dirty he was in that moment, and Tyson just got
completely frustrated with all the head butts and that's why

(07:22):
he bit him. So, you know, sometimes you have to
ask yourself why, right? You always hear one side of
the story, Well, why did he bite his ear? I'll
tell you why he bit his ear? Because Holyfield's head
buttoning him the whole time.

Speaker 4 (07:33):
That's true.

Speaker 3 (07:33):
Honestly, it doesn't get talked about. Joel's right, You're right,
it's if you look at Tyson's perspective. Yeah, you don't
go biting someone's ear in the damn ring. You get suspended,
which is what happened to Iron Mike on this day
nineteen ninety seven. But he was getting headbutted and no
one was calling it. When you talk about fight moments
that you remember, that's definitely. Would you say top three

(07:55):
for sure, well, I mean, whoa.

Speaker 2 (07:57):
I think he is involved in two of them. Watch
him get knocked out by Buster. Douglas said, another one,
because if you were an eighties nineties kid growing up,
you thought he was Iron Mike convincible. I think the
video game brainwashed us to think that he could never lose.
And we saw how many guys he just beat in
ninety seconds and first round, all the pay per views

(08:17):
watching him get beat is one of them. That's another,
and maybe, man, that's a good one if you're gonna
do it. Which one Joel Parachute, Oh yeah, when he
came fining, Yeah, that was holy Field.

Speaker 4 (08:34):
I got too. I remember when two.

Speaker 3 (08:36):
I mean one's just a knockout, so it's not really like, wow,
did that happen? But when Marquez knocked out poke out,
I thought I was like, is he dead?

Speaker 2 (08:43):
Yeah, that's I mean, that's different generation, but for sure
one of the tops.

Speaker 4 (08:47):
But when you think of a like, yo, is this
really happening?

Speaker 3 (08:51):
Was it McGregor kuld be Habib When he jumped out
of the out of the cage into the crowd or
something they were.

Speaker 4 (08:57):
All fighting, that was wild.

Speaker 6 (08:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (08:59):
Look, it's all generational too, right, Rich like big moments
like that stand out a lot more to a young
person because they'd never seen anything like that. Right, So
that's probably an answer for sure, if you're a little
younger than us, if you're a little older than us.

Speaker 6 (09:16):
No Moss with Roberto Duran and Sugar Ray Leonard.

Speaker 2 (09:19):
Right, it's just it's all generational because if you're young
and and you'd never witnessed this before, you're like, oh, whow,
it stands out more in your memories.

Speaker 4 (09:29):
You know. What's more the.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
Wild is you said no Moss, and Duran said never
said it, right.

Speaker 2 (09:35):
He claims he those words never came out of his mouth, but.

Speaker 4 (09:39):
You could see in that moment he had like given up.

Speaker 5 (09:42):
Yes, he was frustrated by Leonard.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
I felt that same way. But a month ago, if
for the fight fans out there, Yes, the same way
you and Roberto Durant, same guy. No, Yeah, I felt No,
I felt that same way. I felt that same way
watching a fight about a month ago when Deyontay Wilder
got hit and he started like walking to the other
side of the ring like I'm done. I got a

(10:05):
sense of like he either got his yeah, he got
like turned his back and broke the the cardinal rule
of protect yourself at all times. But what's their sense
of Like I give up and he's like, yo, I'm done?
Like he got so felt confused.

Speaker 2 (10:20):
I don't know what happened when Zang knocked him out Shangshong, but.

Speaker 5 (10:24):
Yeah, that was wild to see.

Speaker 2 (10:26):
So again, that was on this day I with Biten
Evander Holyfield the Earth Mike Tyson shocked the world.

Speaker 4 (10:35):
Let me tell you, I don't I don't want to
be on this day guy.

Speaker 3 (10:38):
I just thought those are two interesting ones that cal
Ripkens studied to this day.

Speaker 6 (10:42):
Guy, What do you mean you don't want to be
your strongest suit?

Speaker 4 (10:45):
That's who you are, That's who you are.

Speaker 6 (10:48):
Absolutely does he have anymore any more?

Speaker 4 (10:51):
Yeah? Come on, Rich, I actually do if you want to.

Speaker 3 (10:54):
By the way, spot, that's my strongest suit.

Speaker 4 (10:57):
What's your strongest suit? Spot? Oh? Your suit suit? What's
your struggest suit?

Speaker 1 (11:02):
All right?

Speaker 5 (11:02):
I got yes?

Speaker 9 (11:04):
No, no, Rich is really good on NFL. Don't oh
don't know, of course he is.

Speaker 6 (11:09):
I would say he loves trivia and on his days.

Speaker 9 (11:12):
By the way, on Mike Tyson, really quickly, we should
promote ahead are broke iron Mike's going to be on
the show for trivia tomorrow.

Speaker 6 (11:18):
Miss that.

Speaker 2 (11:19):
Oh, if you want some prizes Dan Patrick's show. If
you want to win some prizes, we bribe you with
giveaway expensive prices. Yeah, we're giving away swiggies tomorrow, which
are stainless steel water bottles, Covino and Rich on Fox
Sports Radio water bottles. Your chance to win tomorrow on
Iron Mike Trivia. So give us one more Rich and
we'll talk some Aaron Judge.

Speaker 3 (11:41):
Hmmm, you know I'm gonna save my one.

Speaker 4 (11:46):
So, but I do want to give you an update. Though.

Speaker 3 (11:47):
I do want to give you an update because I
got excited for a second. I saw a headline that
said Joey Chestnut will eat hot dogs on the.

Speaker 4 (11:54):
Fourth of July, and I'm like, yes, he's doing it.
Come do an agreement.

Speaker 2 (11:58):
That's a that's what I call a Daniel Russo is
gonna fight. Daniel russ is gonna fight. Gentlemen, Daniel Russo,
don't excited to keep Joey that's gonna eat hot dog.

Speaker 4 (12:09):
Stop.

Speaker 3 (12:09):
Don't get excited to keep your Roman candle in your pants.
Impossible foods, which is the reason why he can't do
the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating contest because the conflict of interest.
While the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest will happen in
Coney Islands as per scheduled, Joey Chestnut is going to
be an El Paso, Texas eating vegan dogs. The only

(12:34):
redeeming quality is that it's part of a military fundraiser.
So take away the military fundraiser partament. Take away the
military fundraiser part of it.

Speaker 4 (12:43):
What's that brother, vegan dogs in El Paso? Like, everything
about that sounds awful.

Speaker 2 (12:52):
I'm not a big Joey Chestnut fan. Rich, I was
just rich hates it.

Speaker 3 (13:01):
Was in El Paso a day ago because that's one
of the stops I make on my family drives every
year from California to Texas for to.

Speaker 4 (13:07):
See my wife's family.

Speaker 3 (13:11):
And when I was in El Paso, I mean I
should have stayed an extra couple of days hung out
with Joey chestnutt eating vegan dogs. Honestly, that sounds like
the worst compromise of all time. Again, the only redeeming
qualities that apparently they will raise money for military families.
But Nathan's hot Dog eating Coney Island or El Paso
vegan dogs.

Speaker 2 (13:30):
Come on, I'll passo. No thanks, all right, So I
want you guys to think about this. I know it's early,
too early to think here on the West Coast, but
I'm asking you again. Covino and rich In for Dan
Patrick Day one of the Dan Slam, Day one of
four days.

Speaker 5 (13:51):
I saw a meme.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
And in today's world, we get most of our jokes
and our news from memes, at least I do, so
it has to be true. And it's kind of blaring.
How insane Aaron Judge is playing this year. He's out
doing himself, which is hard to do. So the meme
reads Bryce Harper, Who's a hell of a player. Stud

(14:16):
loved the guy. I think he's great. I think he's
such a ball He's such a baseball player.

Speaker 6 (14:20):
I love that.

Speaker 4 (14:21):
If there is one guy in Major League Baseball.

Speaker 3 (14:23):
That epitomizes baseball, yeah that if with no questions asked,
you could just take and put on your team, Yeah,
Bryce Harper might be the answer.

Speaker 2 (14:33):
He's just such a great ballplayer and great for the city.
I love that about him. In twenty twenty one, he
had an MVP season. Right he batted three to oh nine.
Listen to these monster numbers. Three oh nine, thirty five
home runs, eighty four RBI. Now that's a solid Stellar

(14:53):
like Incubus season Stellar.

Speaker 3 (14:56):
I think the only thing lacking was the RBI production.
But he was on a team that you know where
he was in the lineup. I guess he didn't produce
it enough.

Speaker 2 (15:03):
Yeah, but think of how well rounded those numbers are.
You don't see well rounded numbers like that in today's
game as much. Right, you don't see the high average
with the home runs and the RBI. Yeah, it's a
little low for thirty five home runs and for an
MVP season, but Stellar's solid numbers still very Bryce Harper
three ZHO nine thirty five eighty four. That's an MVP

(15:27):
year for Bryce Harper. Aaron Judge through June, we're not
even at the All Star break. Aaron Judge through June three,
actually three sixteen at this point, thirty one home runs
in eighty two RBIs he's done in just less than

(15:51):
half a season. Well, Bryce Harper did an entire season
and won MVP for it. It's insanity, and we all know.
We all see the highlights, you see the bombs he's
hitting on social media, but we're just trying to make
it very clear. When you're watching this guy Dane and Dan,
it's it's almost like a like a like a monster

(16:13):
kid in a little league game.

Speaker 6 (16:16):
It reminds me when you were in Little league? How
many All Star games did you play in? Dude?

Speaker 4 (16:19):
Twenty seven little league home runs? Joe? Do you know why? Scott, Joe,
you're right, I.

Speaker 6 (16:25):
Hit Wait last week you said twenty five, oh.

Speaker 2 (16:27):
Twenty seven, Dude, that's I hit twenty seven home runs
in Little League? Out of the park, into the dark.
If I hadn't heard the number twenty seven so much
in my life. But my point, I was gigantic playing
with these little nose pickers, right, And that's what Aaron
Judge is like Herman Munster in a baseball uniform.

Speaker 4 (16:43):
When he connects, it just launches.

Speaker 6 (16:45):
You know.

Speaker 2 (16:46):
That was one hundred and fifty five exit velocity and
it went seven hundred feet and then he stopped growing.

Speaker 6 (16:52):
By the way, since you know when you play, your
hat was too little for your head. You you heard
your muscles?

Speaker 4 (16:57):
Will you don't know? Joke? Can you know what ve?
You know was five to nine when he was twelve
and grew one Incent.

Speaker 10 (17:03):
Yeah, there's some true Aaron Judges in later, Dude, when
he connects Rich, they just played your Mets, am I Lyne.

Speaker 2 (17:14):
When he connects, you think it's a routine fly ball,
but it's not because Herman Munster just hit it and
it's a rocket line drive out of the stadium.

Speaker 3 (17:23):
I don't watch Aaron Judge day in and day out.
I'm a National League Baseball fan. So when I watched
the Mets play the Yankees, every at bat you felt
like this guy had the possibility of going yard. It's
like when you're playing slow pitch softball and there's the
one slugger that at any given at bat he can
easily hit a home run. It's like the big kid
that goes through puberty early in little league and he's
hitting home runs out of the little stadium. I saw

(17:45):
Aaron Judge hit what looked to be what should have
been a left center field line drive single or double
because of his size and strength.

Speaker 4 (17:55):
I'm like, wait, there was a line drive home run.
What does this guy?

Speaker 3 (18:00):
I haven't seen a guy in the batter's box like
this since Barry Bonds at his most juiced up moment
where they were walking him with the bases loaded.

Speaker 2 (18:09):
Yeah, and you know, even through all those walks, when
he did connect, it was a home run.

Speaker 5 (18:13):
It's kind of remarkable.

Speaker 2 (18:14):
And Aaron Judge when he connects and again his averages
up there, his home runs are up there, RBIs are
up there. He's having a monster season right now. He
stays healthy, we could see him break his own records.
He's breaking all sorts of Yankee records. He broke Yankee
records for the month of June. And where we're getting
at is, when you see what he's doing, why do

(18:36):
we glorify the past when you look at We used
Bryce Harper as the example because that was the mean
that went viral. You got to see all these other
MVP like stat lines and it's odd because they're famous names,
we glorify them instead of appreciating what we're seeing right
in front of us.

Speaker 5 (18:55):
What we're setting out is elite compared to that stuff.

Speaker 3 (18:58):
To quote Drago's wife, whatever he hits, he's a choice
and actually his his the Russia guy. But yeah, now
Aaron Judges doing stuff that you haven't seen in a
long long time.

Speaker 4 (19:10):
So we will talk about glorifying the past.

Speaker 3 (19:14):
And when we do this, it's you know, it's really
not doing any favors for the people dominating now. So
we'll explain more next in for the great Dan Patrick
cave No Rich right here on Fox Sports Radio.

I ordered a bagel this morning, Rich with some.

Speaker 4 (20:09):
Stank on it. Know what I ordered this morning?

Speaker 3 (20:14):
I have a favorite coffee shop where I'm at in Texas,
and it's an embarrassing order because they call there. They're
like French vanilla, like good coffee is called the dude and.

Speaker 5 (20:25):
I would get it. I'd say, can I get it?
The number seven?

Speaker 6 (20:28):
Please?

Speaker 5 (20:29):
Thank you?

Speaker 4 (20:30):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (20:30):
Kavino's the guy that won't call a Starbucks drink or
like a Jumba juice drink.

Speaker 4 (20:34):
What was the thing that you refused to call its name?

Speaker 5 (20:37):
The Orange dream Machine?

Speaker 2 (20:38):
I got into it like a like a standoff with
the Jamba juice girl.

Speaker 5 (20:42):
I'm like, can I get that one? She's like, which one?
I'm like the orange one.

Speaker 2 (20:45):
She's like, you mean the Orange dream Machine? Like you
won't say it? She knew I wouldn't say it, And
I'm like, no, I want to say. She's like, why
won't you say? I'm like, is this stupid? The dream Machine?

Speaker 5 (20:55):
Get out of here?

Speaker 6 (20:55):
Isn't it true? You never used to order the Rudy
two d Freshman fruity when you went.

Speaker 9 (20:58):
To die hop No, or the moon's over his hammy
moons in an old fashioned and like, do you mean
the whiskey business?

Speaker 6 (21:07):
I'm like, can I just get the freaking.

Speaker 2 (21:11):
Please fresh and fruity pancakes with the fruit on it?

Speaker 4 (21:15):
You know, fresh for you?

Speaker 5 (21:17):
So tell me how that one dude. Was you had
this morning?

Speaker 4 (21:20):
No? So?

Speaker 6 (21:22):
I uh?

Speaker 2 (21:23):
So I ordered the coffee is called the dude. I
wanted a tasty dude, wasn't it?

Speaker 4 (21:27):
So I got it? I had.

Speaker 3 (21:29):
I wanted an extra large and I wanted it ice,
so I had to order an extra large ice dude.

Speaker 4 (21:35):
Extra large tasty dude.

Speaker 2 (21:36):
Please coming right up, so Riches in Texas drinking dudes,
I come up a little what and the rest of
us are here in Los Angeles podcast line up in
the nation.

Speaker 6 (21:46):
Yeah, exactly explains his tasty dude this morning.

Speaker 2 (21:51):
WHOA The best way to start a day, Davis explains,
is with a dude.

Speaker 5 (21:56):
Again.

Speaker 2 (21:57):
We're live from Mercedes Studios. Hey, whatever floats your boat
or do you like them hot? We're talking about Aaron
Judge and we'll take your phone calls as well. We
got dannyg and Joel on the phones at eight seven,
seven ninety nine on Fox at Covino and Rich.

Speaker 6 (22:12):
Again.

Speaker 2 (22:13):
When you look at the stats, they're insane. He's out
doing his own pace at this point, which is hard
to do when it's it's hard to live up to
yourself sometimes when you're Aaron Judge. But they're comparing his
season through June to Bryce Harper's twenty twenty one MVP season.
The entire season in twenty twenty one, Bryce Harper battedt

(22:36):
three z nine, Aaron Judges batting three sixteen again and
roly in June, well, July now, but this is as
of yesterday. Bryce Harper had thirty five home runs in
his MVP season. Aaron Judge already has thirty one home runs.
Bryce Harper had eighty four RBI in his MVP season.
Aaron Judge already has eighty two. He's been consistent, he's

(22:59):
been healthy in that has been the difference. But it's insanity.
He's Babe Ruth Josh Gibson level of mammoth. And we
glorify these names in the past, not that we shouldn't,
but we don't really look at today's numbers and give
the credit to today's athlete the way we should. Because we
hear some sort of old name, we're like, oh, yeah,

(23:21):
those guys are the best. It's like, no, the guys
you're seeing now are the best.

Speaker 4 (23:25):
You know. I'm so curious.

Speaker 3 (23:26):
And by the way, I think the most impressive thing
that Aaron Judge is doing besides like I said, every
ball he hits, like a what should be a line
drive to left center field just carries because he just
rips the ball with an exit velocity that's absurd. Yeah,
I think the one hundred and fifty RIBI pace one
sixty he's on pace that I feel like MVPs are

(23:49):
like one twenty one thirty RBI over one hundred's fantastic.
The fact that this dude's on pace for a buck
fifty or more in the RBI department seems to me
like that that's the most impressive stat of all.

Speaker 6 (24:02):
Does that make it a shoe in without a cat?
I mean the fact, why wouldn't he I mean, I'm
sure you've been snubbed before in your little league dats.

Speaker 2 (24:14):
I was politics, right like the other the other kid
who may have won, his dad was the coach or
something his d about the trophy, right, Yeah, exactly, So
politics would be one him not staying healthy, them not winning.
But we've seen it in the PASTI there's always guys
that are are just as good or maybe more impactful

(24:34):
to the team. But what judges doing is impactful to
the league. Forget about the team. But you know, Otani
beat him out. We saw Altuve beat him out. There's
always guys with great impact for their team that could
give him a run for his money.

Speaker 5 (24:47):
But what he's doing now is just unheard of.

Speaker 3 (24:50):
Speaking of your boy, al Tuve, did you see him
getting really mad? He thought he hit a ball off
his foot and he's like, of course I did, and
he didn't run the first and they're like, oh, no,
fair ball.

Speaker 2 (25:00):
I think that was the second ejection in his career.
You know, it was odd to see him that.

Speaker 6 (25:04):
Man.

Speaker 3 (25:05):
Do you think people don't believe him because of the
stigma of the cheating astros? Like any other player, you'd
be like, of course, I believe him.

Speaker 4 (25:12):
If he says his foot got hit, his foot got hit.
But Altuve, You're like, uh.

Speaker 2 (25:17):
Hey, Rich, And I'm not calling out other superstars. That's
not my point here. My point here isn't to diminish
the past. Right, know your history and give these guys
their due. They were the best at their time. My
point's not to diminish these amazing accolades. You can't take
them away the one and they're great. Is just to

(25:38):
really uplift what we're seeing before our eyes. Instead of
glorifying the past all the time. Oh, no, doubt, dude,
Steve Garvey again, legend Danny g No disrespect I say disrespectfully.
I'm just looking at any numbers. So I'm not calling
out Steve Gret. Like Steve Garvey nineteen seventy four, he
had a three forty two. I mean, that's a monster year.

(25:58):
Wait wait, wait, wait, hold on, no he and he
got it three twelve. He's on base percentage of three
forty two. It's not even that great, but he had
twenty one home runs and one hundred and eleven RBI.
Twenty one home runs, three twelve. Aaron Judge basically has that.
Now you know what I mean. That's insane.

Speaker 4 (26:20):
And the numbers.

Speaker 2 (26:20):
Honestly, if you look at other MVP Award winners rich
again and they're the best at the time or the
most impactful at the time.

Speaker 5 (26:28):
I get it.

Speaker 2 (26:29):
There's some people up there like I'll never ever, especially
as a Yankees fans, say anything bad about Phil Rizzuto,
but his MVP season, it's like kind of meager when
you look at it. Oh yeah, no, I agree. So
when we glorify these old names and numbers, you got
to really pay attention to what some of these young

(26:49):
guys are doing and it's unbelievable.

Speaker 5 (26:52):
And it's not just Aaron Judge.

Speaker 2 (26:54):
Of course, there's the sho heeo tanis there's plenty of
people playing well and putting up crazy numbers.

Speaker 5 (27:00):
So I see a.

Speaker 2 (27:01):
Few people calling about it, and uh, we'll take a
few phone calls.

Speaker 4 (27:05):
Hey, I had a couple thoughts for you.

Speaker 3 (27:07):
Number one the bummer is that I was looking up
the all time RBI leader and it's one of those,
like early nineteen hundred's unbeatable ones. Otherwise I'd say, yo,
could Judge do it because I know there was a
year I believe where like Albert Bell or Manny or
someone was like had like a buck fifty Hack Wilson
one hundred and ninety one in nineteen thirty. That's unbeatable.

(27:28):
No one's gonna no one's gonna outpace that. I mean,
that's you're talking about over over an RBI a game.

Speaker 4 (27:34):
I think that just seems not likely.

Speaker 2 (27:37):
But it's not only in sports rich it's in entertainment,
it's in pop culture.

Speaker 5 (27:43):
It's it's it's every moere. I have other example.

Speaker 2 (27:46):
It's like when you talk about, like, hey, the greatest
movies of all time, not to take away from the
gone with the wings in the Casa Blancas of the world, right,
but like, shouldn't we be at the point time when
we're like, ah, shush, shank, good fellas. You know, we
bring up all these old ones because we glorify the past.

Speaker 3 (28:08):
Some of these tell me, you tell me, you tell me,
cool hand, Luke, or something like that's better than bars Gump.

Speaker 2 (28:13):
What I'm telling you is back to the future could
be an answer, yes, you know, and and we glorify
these older ones because they're older for no other reason
other than yes, they were great and they're classic. But
that doesn't mean that the ones now are closer in
recent history aren't just as good, if not better. When
you factor in the athleticism and sports, or you factor

(28:37):
in special effects and the technology and the acting and
how it's evolved now, it's kind of safe to say
that it is better. And we just don't want to
disrespect the past, and we don't have to, but we
could really just embrace an uplift what we're seeing before
our eyes today. It's it's true people love to glorify
the past, and by the way, to sort of enhancer

(28:58):
what you're saying, I have a great movie exam, but
I looked a couple stats up from our childhood because
I'm thinking, who did I sweat as a kid?

Speaker 4 (29:06):
Like ya? They're hitting bombs, They're awesome. I looked up
Dale Murphy's.

Speaker 2 (29:11):
Kid alf and hul Colgan. Yeah as a kid. Yeah,
what you gonna do?

Speaker 4 (29:16):
Brother?

Speaker 2 (29:17):
Uh?

Speaker 4 (29:17):
Are you drinking? Are you drinking some real American beer
this week?

Speaker 6 (29:19):
For uh?

Speaker 4 (29:21):
What of July?

Speaker 3 (29:24):
Holkster's got like a good looking younger wife these days? Anyway,
Calm down, Yeah, Dale Murphy, you see hawk to a girl.
Dale Murphy in his prime when we were playing RBI baseball,
bases load and you're like, man, Dale Murphy.

Speaker 1 (29:37):
I know he had.

Speaker 2 (29:39):
He had forty four home runs, I believe one year
because I remember, I know stats. Do RBI Baseball on
and so let me hit you on the superstation TBS.

Speaker 4 (29:49):
Let me hit you up with his MVP season.

Speaker 3 (29:51):
Now, compare these to Aaron Judge now his MVP year
thirty six home runs, one hundred and nine.

Speaker 4 (29:59):
Ribby's any better? Eighty one?

Speaker 2 (30:01):
Solid right solid for you would take that any day
of the week. But what you're seeing now is on
a different level of Austin.

Speaker 4 (30:09):
You know, you know who's on pace for that this year?

Speaker 3 (30:11):
A guy like Pete Alonzo, Right, yeah, exactly, Yeah, a
guy you know, let me give you one met Yankee Dodger,
a guy who swing was the smoothest in the world
other than Ken Griffey Junior. Maybe Duel Whoa Darryl hit
two sixty nine. His best year was two sixty nine,

(30:33):
thirty nine and one hundred. Like, do we glorify these
guys because they were part of our childhood.

Speaker 2 (30:39):
We do, And that's fair because they dominated their era
and they won at that time.

Speaker 5 (30:44):
But again, this is about embracing what we're seeing.

Speaker 9 (30:47):
I think both of you guys would agree that pictures
were a lot more dominant at that time. We had
pictures throwing more innings, and it seems like we had
more races.

Speaker 2 (30:56):
And if you look back, there's a lot of pictures
that were winning MVP too back then. I mean they
still do, but they were winning a lot back then. Yeah,
Danny brings up a good point. There is a reason
to glorify some of these pictures.

Speaker 3 (31:07):
I saw stat the other day and said, Nolan Ryan's
best stat that no one talks about. He pitched a
thirteen inning game, two hundred and thirty pitches for the
win or something Someone's like, imagine someone doing that today.
That's like three starts based on pitch counts.

Speaker 2 (31:20):
Now, Dick Grote won the MVP in nineteen sixty what
are you right? In the NL Rodger Marris won it
in the AL. So again we glorify these names. Dick
Grote batted three twenty five and had two home runs
and fifty RBI.

Speaker 4 (31:34):
Yeah, so, I mean.

Speaker 5 (31:36):
Maybe at the time, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (31:37):
I don't know that story, but I'm just looking at
numbers like that's an MVP season. What, Aaron Judge, what
these guys are doing today are insane and we're not
even halfway there.

Speaker 4 (31:49):
I got two for you, and we could move along.

Speaker 3 (31:52):
Talk about uh, NBA, talk about NFL, talk about HOWK
two a girl, whatever the heck you want to talk
about hot dogs, fireworks.

Speaker 2 (31:58):
I want to talk about this big heist, this big
uh this big bust in Guardina.

Speaker 4 (32:03):
Oh, I want to talk about big bust.

Speaker 3 (32:05):
Sure, there's two examples of glorifying the past. I' llah
all these past sluggers. Meanwhile, Aaron Judges, you know, doing
historic things before our eyes. We just need to, as
you said, respect the past, but also observe what's going
on in front of your very eyes. And and Aaron
Judge is unbelievable. You watch them day in and day

(32:27):
out as a Yankees fan, Camino, but if you're a
fan of the Cubs or the Astros or Tigers or
some other team, taking take a look at some of
this guy's highlights, they're absurd.

Speaker 4 (32:37):
Really.

Speaker 3 (32:37):
It's like, if you don't watch Aaron Judge day to day,
you'd be shocked. Two examples. I would take, you know,
you might call me crazy. I would take Ed Sheeran
and put him against any other like singer songwriter guy
from other generations, James Taylor, all these other people that
people that are known as like man singer songwriter Dylan,

(32:59):
Bob Dylan. Ed Sheeron is unbelievable me. So I think
Ed Sheeran's a guy that we're looking at.

Speaker 4 (33:08):
Make a better day, just you and me.

Speaker 2 (33:13):
Great job, Bob, all right, somebody walk this guy out
the studio.

Speaker 4 (33:18):
Dude. He seemed brained dead in that documentary about We
O the World that was weird we Are the World. Yeah,
great job, Bob. And he is a legend.

Speaker 2 (33:29):
So yeah, let's not dump on the past legend singers,
well not singer, but songwriter legend, and Rich is saying,
you know, here we are, we we glorify these names.

Speaker 5 (33:39):
What Ed Sheeran does and is doing.

Speaker 2 (33:43):
Is comparable, if not better, especially with the use of
technology in the way he loops things live.

Speaker 5 (33:48):
I'm not even a big Ed Shearon fan, but it's
undeniably awesome.

Speaker 4 (33:52):
You're you're right.

Speaker 3 (33:53):
I took my kids two weeks ago to see the
movie Inside Out too. It's the first billion dollar movie
we have twenty twenty four, and you know that movie
start to finish, graphics, the animation, the storyline, heartfelt for
the kids. For the adults, you're telling me that's not
better than Mary Poppins.

Speaker 2 (34:13):
Oh again, great for the time, but you'll your kids
will fall asleep before. Your kids will start complaining before
it starts because they're like, why are there credits in
the beginning of the cartoon? Why are there crazy over
didn't even start yet, because kids don't like credits in
the beginning of their movies. And by the time that

(34:34):
we love to laugh, by the time that hits at
Mary Poppins, your kids are sleeping Bro.

Speaker 3 (34:39):
I was on this road trip with the kids, so
I'm flipping around the radio channels on Sirius XM, and
the kids wanted to hear Disney Radio for a second and.

Speaker 4 (34:50):
Just a spoonful of sugar next to medicine and go down.

Speaker 3 (34:54):
And my kids like, Dad, change it. I'm like, of course,
this is the lame as.

Speaker 6 (34:57):
Hell speaking of Disney the way.

Speaker 2 (35:00):
Yeah, that was great, Bro, the most delightful way the time.
We gotta go no, no, no, But d you know
how we glorify the past? How many people are like,
let's go on. It's a small world, and you're like,
are you serious? Have you seen the rides today? And
you want to go on this stupid ride and it
is endearing and is adorable, and I'm not Let's go

(35:21):
in the cars ride, Let's go cars. That's called glorifying
the past. Aaron Judge has done with MVPs, have done
for an entire season, in half a season. It's insane
to see. And I'll tell you what I see some
people on the phones. We will get to your phone
calls next again, Cavino and Rich and for Dan Patrick,
The Dan Slam Live from Mercedes Benz Studios.

Speaker 1 (35:42):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern, six am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio Wapp.

Speaker 2 (35:52):
Cavino and rich In for Dan Patrick the Dan Slam.
They one of four Usually we do the hat trick,
but four shows this week, and Joel's on the ones
and twos. But Danny g who's super producing at eight seven,
seven ninety nine on Fox has breaking news.

Speaker 6 (36:09):
Yeah, so guys, a big topic this hour. Yeah.

Speaker 9 (36:12):
Rich had that major announcement about Joey Chestnut. Oh major,
Oh yeah, yeah, he is gonna join you at the
top of the hour. No way, yeah what so good
looking to mister Chesnut. You guys will talk to him
in just a few minutes, about ten minutes from now.

Speaker 4 (36:27):
Really very interesting.

Speaker 2 (36:30):
So stick around with Joey Chestnut, who's eating vegan dogs.
That's the update, right, We'll get the scoop from him
live from Mercedes Benz Studios. Thank you again for hanging
out with us. We're talking about glorifying the past. We
tend to do that again in entertainment and in sports.
We see these big names, the Nelly Foxes of the world,

(36:52):
the Roger Morris is Elston Howards. You look up their
MVP seasons, they pale in comparison to what Aaron Judge
is done. Not even halfway there. But again, we're not
dumping on the past. We're just saying, got to start
embracing what we're seeing in front of our eyes. And
Rich brought up a really funny example. How you know

(37:13):
he wanted to show his kids Mary Poppins or whatever,
and the.

Speaker 4 (37:16):
Kids just don't like that.

Speaker 2 (37:17):
Now you could say, yeah, it was great for the time,
but it's just slow and not as good in today's world.

Speaker 6 (37:23):
Chim Chim chimmney, chim chim CHERI doesn't really slap as
hard as it used to.

Speaker 4 (37:28):
Well, it does not. But my kids saw Inside Out Too.

Speaker 5 (37:31):
They start booing when they see him.

Speaker 4 (37:33):
Chimmy Chim Jimmy, Jim jim.

Speaker 2 (37:36):
We glorify the past, dude, I'm telling you you you
see a movie like Inside Out Too at the theater
with your kids, The storyline, the animation, everything, it's a
billion dollar movie now.

Speaker 4 (37:45):
First billion dollar movie of the year.

Speaker 3 (37:47):
And then you're like, hey, kids on Disney Plus, you
want to check out Mary Poppins.

Speaker 4 (37:51):
And they see some old lady with an umbrella and they're.

Speaker 2 (37:53):
Like, no, thanks, Dad, Julie Andrews rich Oh yeah, you
described missus doubtfire. Yeah, she's delightful. She's the delightful woman.
But I am job, you know. And we're not trying
to say either that everything we see today is a
home run, because it's not. Because because of technology and
because we put so much out you get a lot

(38:15):
of crap as a result too. We're oversaturated with nonsenseral.
But you know, we're seeing some really great things and
we tend to glorify the older stuff. Let's go to John.
I want to talk to John real quick. Danny g
John in Paradise, California.

Speaker 8 (38:30):
What up, John, Good morning guys.

Speaker 6 (38:33):
How you doing.

Speaker 5 (38:33):
Good morning man. It's always fun filling in for DP.

Speaker 8 (38:36):
You know, I'm not a Yankees fan, generally can't stand them,
but you know, watch Aaron Judge and if I remember right,
and I'm quite sure I do, if you look at
his stats through April, he sucked. He was barely batten
over two hundred. He only hit six home runs, and
that makes what he've done since even more amazing. I mean,

(38:56):
take a month of the season.

Speaker 5 (38:57):
Away, dude, You're actually right about.

Speaker 2 (39:00):
It's what's wild about this Not everybody knows because most
people don't care about the Yankees.

Speaker 4 (39:04):
I get it.

Speaker 2 (39:04):
He got off to a really slow start, Like that's
what's incredible.

Speaker 5 (39:09):
You're absolutely about.

Speaker 3 (39:10):
Honestly, you know, it's so funny when he said that,
I'm like, oh, yeah, that's right, because I remember being like, ooh,
Judge is struggling, and.

Speaker 4 (39:17):
Now it's like the opposite.

Speaker 3 (39:18):
Like you if he doesn't rip a double or home run,
you're like, well, I guess they'll do it next that bet.

Speaker 2 (39:22):
And John made another good point too. I get it.
I get people I roll at the Yankees. Aaron Judge
transcends the Yankees.

Speaker 5 (39:30):
Man, he just does.

Speaker 2 (39:31):
He's just what baseball's about right now. Everybody in the
league admires him and how he carries himself. And if
you're gonna hate on him because you don't like the Yankees,
you're really missing out on history in the making. You're
really just taking away from your own enjoyment at that point.

Speaker 3 (39:49):
Question for you, buddy boy, being that you watch this
guy all the time. Yeah, I'm sure. Michael kay or
hmm sterling before he hung it up. Oh cry all right,
Let me. I'll give you a quick analogy. I was
watching some documentary clips about Steph Curry and how every

(40:15):
step of the way from when he was playing basketball
as a kid until Davidson in college, no one wanted
to take a chance on him because like, he's just
too small, and no one could understand. Only a few
people understood that that. You know, this guy could shoot
like nobody else. I don't care how small he is,
He'll get What was what was the reason why Aaron
Judge was not an early draft pick. I know the

(40:36):
baseball draft is tricky, it's hard to judge talent. Maybe,
but how did so many teams pass up on a
beast the guy that size?

Speaker 4 (40:43):
Like was he?

Speaker 2 (40:45):
I don't know. I couldn't tell you. I mean, he
was always a big monster, but maybe just came into
his own always a high Yankee organization.

Speaker 3 (40:55):
But I'm saying it had to be a situation where
like other scouts are other teams who are like, no,
this guy.

Speaker 4 (41:04):
It strikes out a lot. He is you know, he
doesn't have the power, like something he must develop.

Speaker 2 (41:08):
Throwing your six foot seven, yeah, lumbering goon in the outfield,
You're gonna get hurt. But yeah, he was definitely striking
out a lot back in those early days. But he
found something. Let's talk to Kevin real quick in Washington. Kevin,
you're on the Cavino in Rich show. We lost him,
all right, Kevin, thank you callback if you want in
