Speaker 4 (01:11):
Did you ever have a favorite player, just a player
that you really liked and went to a new team. Yep,
she went to a new team, if it's the WNBA
or the NWSL, and you just can't can't get used
to them in that new uniform. It just kind of stings.
It just it hurts. It's kind of what we're talking
about today. And there are a couple of different reasons

(01:32):
for it. Klay Thompson leaving the Warriors for the Mavericks
is an obvious point of why this topic jumps off
the page, but clag Thompson also is near the end
of his career, and I think that there are other
there are other examples, because usually when a topic of
this sort is brought up, people will say, Oh, Jerry

(01:53):
Rice in a Seahawks uniform, Evan Smith in a Cardinals uniform.
It's not of like weird to see as a sports fan.
It's what player that you love that maybe wasn't the
favorite of everybody else, but he was your guy, ended
up leaving and going somewhere else. Yeah, Like, that's that's

(02:14):
what we want to get to and we want to
hear from you. Eight seven seven nine to nine on Fox.
It's eight seven seven nine nine six six three six ' nine.
We want to hear who hurt you? What team hurts you?
What general manager, head coach hurt you because they shipped
your player out of town, maybe in the prime of
his career, maybe as his career was about to get underway.

(02:37):
What hurt you. We want to hear your thoughts about that.
But it doesn't just stem off of Klay Thompson. You're
a Clippers fan, Manta. You just saw Paul George leave town,
even though he wasn't a born and bred Clipper, An
LA Area guy comes to LA and hope to bring
a championship to the city with Kawhi Leonard and it
doesn't happen, and now he's in a Philadelphia seventy six uniform.

(03:01):
It's gotta be a little bit weird when you see
Paul George in those fake jersey mockups.

Speaker 5 (03:04):
On Super Weird.

Speaker 7 (03:06):
It doesn't hurt me the way another one has in
the past, but yeah, it is.

Speaker 5 (03:12):
It is weird, and I go back.

Speaker 7 (03:14):
Another weird one that always sits with me is when
Steve Nash left the Dallas Mavericks after he and Derknoviski
were like a one two punch. When he left and
went to the Suns, like that was a weird one.
It hurt me, but it was just like a weird one.

Speaker 5 (03:28):
To get used to.

Speaker 7 (03:30):
So the one that has hurt me that genuinely was
like and till this day, I still hate it was
Blake Griffin leaving the Clippers, the guy who put us
on the map, that made us popular, that made us
a destination where players wanted to come.

Speaker 5 (03:46):
You know, that one hurt like and he didn't want
to leave.

Speaker 7 (03:50):
Unfortunately, he was shipped off by new ownership and whatnot. Unfortunately,
So that one, that one still stings till this day.

Speaker 5 (04:00):
And I don't know what's gonna happen in the.

Speaker 7 (04:01):
Future that like into a dome, if there's ever gonna
be any retiring of Clipper jerseys. But one hundred percent
Blake Griffin needs to have his jersey retired as a Clipper,
And I don't know if it'll happen, just because I
don't know how that relationship is sure today.

Speaker 4 (04:16):
Pause from earlier, but Steve Balmer tried to shake Blake
Griffin's hand, then you saw the clip and then Blake
just takes off into the tunnel.

Speaker 7 (04:23):
Yes, yeah, and I understand, I get I understand why
Blake feels that way. I'm just hoping that now that
time has passed by that that can you know, that
they can reconcile or just be civil, because if there
is any Clipper Jersey retired, he needs to be there.

Speaker 4 (04:41):
That's what we are looking for. Moncey was hurting. Moncey
is starred from Blake Griffin no longer being in a
Clipper's uniform. What athletes departure hurts you the most? Again
eight seven seven nine to nine on Fox. That's eight
seven seven nine nine six six three six nine. You
can also tweet us at Monte Bilanos and you can

(05:02):
find me at Dan Byer on Fox. But I do
want to say something that you brought up because the
Lob City Clippers are a team that you look back
very fondly of, right, Oh, yeah, because you're a lifelong
Clippers fan. Oh and truly they provided a level of
success and excitement that the organization had never really seen before,

(05:26):
not even a little bit. Maybe a splash with Elton
Brand and her buddy Katino Mobley and yeah, but were
good times, but it wasn't sustainable and it just.

Speaker 5 (05:34):
Wasn't the same.

Speaker 7 (05:37):
Blake arriving to the Clippers was a complete shift in
a way that Elton Brand, Quentin Richardson, Darius Smiles. They
were so fun when they used to I don't know
how to describe this, but they would have hit their
fists on their head every time they were like hit
a three. All of that was so much fun and
yet still to me not even comparable to what Blake

(06:00):
Griffin and Lob City was.

Speaker 4 (06:02):
And this is a point that I think is very
very important because there are people who are calling the
Clippers failures because they didn't win a title with Kawhi
Leonard and Paul George.

Speaker 5 (06:14):
Are those people Laker fans?

Speaker 4 (06:16):
H Yes they are. That is a big, big part
of it. The Clippers aren't failures. It just didn't work out.
And I think when you look at what the Clippers
were as an organization for forty years, there is no
way that you can say what they did or didn't
accomplish was the same of what that organization was basically

(06:40):
under Donald Sterling for so many years, they were the
worst team in the NBA. They were the team when
you talk about bad teams in basketball, you talked about
the Clippers. There was no team that was worse than
the Clippers. Year after year after year. And it wasn't
just a curse of a Danny Manning injury or Michael
Olowa Candy not working out. It was a team that

(07:03):
nobody really cared about. They didn't win. They were the
second team in that city, and so just because they
don't win a title with those two players does not
mean it was a complete failure. They actually have risen
to the level now of sustainable franchise because of Steve Balmer,
and a franchise that I'm actually excited to see take

(07:26):
a turn. And I felt after the Lob City years,
Monci that the Clippers were actually the most intriguing team
in the NBA because we had only known them as losers.
So how are they going to respond under new ownership. Well,
you saw what they did. They kept Kawhi Leonard away
from the Lakers and brought him to town, and then
they swung a huge deal and maybe overpaid for Paul George,

(07:47):
but they went for it. Do you think Steve Balmer
is going to stop now? Now with the new arena
that's about to open next year. It is so crazy
to me to see the obsession that the Lakers fans
have with the Clippers when they haven't even come close
in terms of accomplishments. I mean, it's the Lakers up
here and it's on radio, so my arm is extending

(08:09):
as far up as you can, and it's the Clippers
down here. But yet, for some reason, these Laker fans
care so much about the demise of the Clippers. You
don't see that with the Yankees and Mets. Sure there's
a rivalry, yeah, but you don't see it like you do.
I don't think you see it with the Cubs in
white Sox. I don't think you see it in the
other two sport city towns. Yeah, where there is just this,

(08:31):
For some reason, the better team, the more accomplished team,
the more popular team continues to try to keep that
other team down. And that's what I think that we've
gotten a lot of them.

Speaker 7 (08:42):
Yeah. You know, I've mentioned this before, Like I'll be
wearing a Clipper shirt and i always get a comment
from a Laker fan and I'm like, why are.

Speaker 5 (08:50):
You so effective and wearing a Clipper shirt? It shouldn't
matter to you.

Speaker 7 (08:53):
And like you just said, there is no comparison between
the history of the Lakers and the history of the Clippers.
Nobody is discussing that. There is nothing to discuss. The
Lakers are the better brand. They have seventeen championships. We
don't have a single one. We put up our selfies,
like I know, there is no comparison, but it is

(09:16):
weird how how much they just want us to like
continue to suck and be like the little brother, and
it's like, worry about yourselves, worry about yourself.

Speaker 4 (09:27):
It's very weird.

Speaker 5 (09:28):
It's super weird. Like I can't.

Speaker 7 (09:30):
It makes me laugh at how affected they are by
whatever the Clippers do. And you know, back to like
Blake Griffin and what Lob City did for the Clippers,
and obviously Donald Sterling, being the stupid man that he is,
saw his way out and we got an owner that
actually started making decisions and actually cared about the team.

Speaker 5 (09:49):
So I agree, I don't think we failed. It just
didn't work out.

Speaker 7 (09:53):
If I would go back and you tell me, hey,
you're gonna get an owner that's gonna do all of
this for you to try and bring a championship, You're like, yes,
this is what we want.

Speaker 5 (10:01):
We want the stars to come here. We want our
owner to do this, and that's what he did.

Speaker 7 (10:05):
Steve Ballmer did everything you would want as a fan
and it just did not work out. And it super sucks,
it really really does. But I would do it again.

Speaker 4 (10:16):
It's not a failure, not the worst trade in NBA history. Oh,
at least Paul George was a legitimate player.

Speaker 5 (10:22):
He will And yeah, we do.

Speaker 7 (10:25):
Like Adam said it on our last hour when we
spoke to Adam Osland of the Clippers, he said it like, yeah,
we all associate Paul George as being the reason we
lost Shake, Gilges, Alexander and all of the picks, but
it really did have to do with Kawhi as well.

Speaker 5 (10:38):
It was both of them, you know what I mean.
And we would do it again. I would do it again.
I would do it again, no questions asked.

Speaker 4 (10:45):
And you will do it again. Because Steve Baumer is
not going to rest. You will continue to do it again.

Speaker 5 (10:49):
And I appreciate that.

Speaker 4 (10:50):
She is Manzi belanios, I'm Dan Byer, it is Cavino
and Rich here on Fox Sports Radio. We are opening
it up again. Manzi hated to Blake Griffin in a
Clippers uniform. The phone lines are lit. I know Jason
Stewart's got a player. Iowa Sam, I'm sure as someone

(11:10):
Isaac g Lohencron trying to think I have two in
my mind, but you're not gonna hear him because first
we're going to go to Rapid City. Bow is on
the line, and I think this is very interesting because
it's kind of a recent one for you. Bo, Welcome
to Cavino and Rich. Who do you miss seeing in

(11:31):
your favorite team's uniform?

Speaker 8 (11:33):
I miss the entire twenty sixteen Cubs corps. Honestly, the
most painful one is seeing Wilson Contrellers in a Cardinal's uniform?

Speaker 4 (11:44):
True, true, Chris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo. How much does Rizzo
in a Yankees uniform bother you? Does it rival Contreras
at all? Because it is the Pinstripes.

Speaker 8 (11:58):
It hurts because he's so successful over there, succeeding you know,
at least Chris Bryant, sucker.

Speaker 4 (12:09):
But it's tough. Hey, everybody thought, now this isn't going
to be just one, It's going to be one of
many for the Cubs. It's been just one. That was it.
It was a one and done sort of success field,
so sort of successful Ron, Jason Stewart, I.

Speaker 9 (12:27):
Think Bo hits on a good point. I don't think
Chris Bryant gets enough grief for how bad he is now.
There could be an injury there maybe, but Chris Bryant
has been one of the all time fall from graces.
I think he makes like fifty million a year or
something stupid like that. So I want to be the
one guy that gives him grief today.

Speaker 4 (12:49):
I remember I took him early in a Fantasy baseball
draft before he was called up and all the benefits,
So he's always got a nice spot in my mind.
Strauss is in Rochester, Strauss, Welcome to Caveno and Rich.

Speaker 10 (13:03):
Hey, Hey, yeah, I got.

Speaker 11 (13:06):
Too all famous old timer I got Johnny U ended
up with San Diego Chargers.

Speaker 10 (13:12):
Didn't look right, he didn't look right, he didn't.

Speaker 6 (13:14):
Know what he was doing there.

Speaker 10 (13:15):
And Joe will you name it? Somehow up in La Rams.

Speaker 4 (13:19):
They were they were washed though, like their careers were over.
Was there anybody that like, was in the prime of
their career that that jump ship that just, you know,
bothered the heck out of you?

Speaker 11 (13:29):
Johnny You, Johnny U.

Speaker 4 (13:31):
He's never washed, Johnny U, Johnny Johnny.

Speaker 11 (13:35):
Johnny Johnny United Baby number one quarter back all time,
never washed up, never washed up.

Speaker 4 (13:41):
That's that's true, Strauss laying it down. There's one for
Johnny You today here on Fox Sports Radio. We appreciate it.
But I do think that that Johnny You was towards
the end of his career at that point that that
the Colts were moving on, you know, like there's there's
there are running backs and wide receivers. I mentioned Emmitt

(14:05):
Smith and Jerry Rice, who are thinking a.

Speaker 5 (14:07):
Lot of people go back to them.

Speaker 4 (14:08):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, and you look back and you think
of like, oh man, that was just weird. That was odd.
But I'm talking about in their prime. Yeah, and or
a big part about it. I'll give you one of mine.
And you wouldn't necessarily realize this, but when Paul Mallador
left the Brewers after nineteen ninety two, it was a
year where they challenged the Toronto Blue Jays for the

(14:31):
Al East Crown. And growing up growing up in Wisconsin,
it was Robin Young, Paul Malader, Jim Gantner. It's like
those three guys. Those were the three guys, Youngt and
Malodor at a different level, both Hall of Fame players,
but you kind of had that trio and I felt
like certain people were, you know, maybe young guys. Certain

(14:52):
people were Malledar guys, certain people were Gantner guys. If
I had to pick one, it was Maltor. I'd like
Paul Malodor, but the Brewers didn't want him back in
nineteen ninety two. So he goes and he joins Toronto
and then he wins a World Series with them, And
even though like I know that there's Ray Bork when
he went on and won a Stanley Cup with the

(15:13):
Colorado Avalanche, like there were Boston Brewin fans that were
very very happy for him, I was not happy. I
did not want to see Paul Mollador in a Blue
Jays uniform. The Brewers weren't any good the next year
and Toronto ended up going back to back, but seeing
how good malltor was for the Blue Jays, I just
wasn't someone to cheer for him. And because that was

(15:36):
also again the team that they were trying to contend
with in ninety two to try to win the division,
and Toronto was always good, like Toronto was really really
good back then, and to see him go to the
rival in Milwaukee not of any interest in bringing him
back and see him in that uniform. That was always
very difficult because that was I only remembered Paul Molador
as a brewer at that point, and to see him

(15:58):
go to Toronto was tough.

Speaker 7 (16:00):
This isn't the same but with baseball, and he has
moved around enough. But I think Jay stew will agree
with me on this one. Jock Peterson was such a
fan favorite for the Dodgers and then when he went
to the Giants, you were like, oh no, and it's
like I.

Speaker 5 (16:16):
Liked you as a player as a person, but I
don't want you to do well over here. Even if
the Giants do suck, I don't want you to do well.

Speaker 4 (16:24):
Like it just you know, whenever he comes to the
plate in whatever uniform he's wearing with his pearls, I
just think of him as a Dodger. Yes, whether it
was Diamondbacks or you know, Giants or wherever.

Speaker 9 (16:36):
It needs win World Series back to back years he
was Braves and Dbacks.

Speaker 4 (16:40):
Yeah, yeah, so you.

Speaker 5 (16:42):
Know he's fine.

Speaker 7 (16:43):
I'm just saying when you see him in the Giants,
you're like, oh, yeah.

Speaker 4 (16:46):
It's one that I can't get away from. Will we
take your nominations? There's some good ones on the board,
So if you're on hold, please stay put. Curious to
hear Jason Stewart's thoughts on this, but on the heels
of Klaik Thompson now becoming a member the Dallas Mavericks,
and even Paul George for that matter, leaving Monty's Clippers.
What athletes changing uniforms hurt you the most?

Speaker 6 (17:08):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app search FSR to
listen live.

Speaker 4 (17:21):
Comito on the Rich Here at Fox Sports Radio. I'm
Dan Byer. She's Monty in for the guys who are
in for Dan Patrick. I think they're doing the Dan
Slam this week for days of the Dan Patrick Show
here at Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 5 (17:35):
Go time to get up.

Speaker 4 (17:38):
It'd be six o'clock local time. I'm guessing four am.

Speaker 5 (17:42):
And do you think Rich is in sweats?

Speaker 6 (17:45):
Yes?

Speaker 4 (17:45):
Because Rich is on location. Rich isn't local. You could
even see on the video, so guaranteed he's in sweat.
Mancy up in Monte Blons. You can find me at
Dan Byer on Fox. What we want to know with
Klay Thompson leaving the Warriors. It's got a sting Warriors
fans and him in a Maverick's uniform and all these
mock ups. Who were the athletes that left your favorite
team that hurt the most? And this isn't a had

(18:09):
one year left and went and played somewhere else. And
again I'm using Jerry Rice as a Seahawk and EMMITTT.
Smith as a Cardinal. Is like those examples of all right,
they were way at the end of their career. It's
guys who are maybe in the prime of their career,
maybe weren't yet in their prime. Maybe they were a
young prospect and moved on somewhere else and became great.
That that still hurts. That's what we want to know.

(18:30):
Peter and Plattsburgh has a very very good nominee. I
don't want to give it away because I see it
on my screen. Peter, what cuts you a knife? What
cuts you like a knife? When it talks about former
players leaving for new teams prime.

Speaker 10 (18:45):
Of his career, Red Sox letting, Mookie Betsko.

Speaker 4 (18:50):
Oh, yeah, it's never been the same. Yeah, a decision,
especially Peter, it's gotta stink. And I know he's hurt,
but how much he's thrived in LA and how much
he's loved in LA. And I was become such a
fabric of that team to think that you had him
at one time and then decided, Nah, we're good and

(19:13):
the CEM floor somewhere. It has just got to sting.

Speaker 2 (19:16):
He's the modern womde.

Speaker 4 (19:19):
Peter with a great nomination.

Speaker 7 (19:20):
Yeah, And it's weird because I feel like now Mookie
Betts is like not people don't even.

Speaker 5 (19:26):
Remember him as a Red Sox.

Speaker 7 (19:28):
It is like yes, afterthought, and it's like no, they
won together and then he came to LA.

Speaker 5 (19:35):
But it is crazy how people have forgotten about that.

Speaker 4 (19:38):
Jason Stewart is a Dodger fan reaping the benefits of
the Dodgers, but I know that there's another player that
kind of is the thorn in your side when it
comes to players leaving.

Speaker 9 (19:48):
I was actually thinking about this, and I had one
before the show, but now I have a new one.
So my train of thought was this. Corey Seger went
on and won a World Series for the Rangers. Corey
Seeger has become one of the best, most clutch players
in the postseason. But when they made the move, I thought,
you know what, he has injured too much, and he's

(20:09):
probably gonna be too expensive. So now I'm going to
change my pick. Okay uh. In nineteen ninety seven, the
Dodgers traded Mike Piazza. He was in his prime, he
was a homegrown product. He was the godson of Tommy Lasorda.
It was it's hard to put into words what that
did to this town, what that did the Dodger fans.

(20:32):
The Dodgers have never really been the same since they
traded Mike Piazza. So I'm gonna go that's a.

Speaker 2 (20:37):
Very good one.

Speaker 4 (20:37):
Yeah, it's a very good pick, especially too to the
point that you just made about Mookie Batts. I think
there are a bunch of people who look at Mike
Piazza as a met Yes.

Speaker 5 (20:46):
I mean that's how he went into the Hall of Fame.

Speaker 4 (20:48):
So that's a problem.

Speaker 7 (20:49):
And then yes, and that's like the whole thing with
like Blake and the Clippers, Piazza and the Dodgers, like
things didn't end well and that's why he chose the Mets.

Speaker 4 (20:58):
Eric's in Virginia. Yeah, with another nominee, great nominee so far,
and our players that just cuts you to the core.
That they're somewhere else. Eric, welcome to Camino and Rich
Uh yeah, I.

Speaker 10 (21:10):
Was thinking Freddy Freeman going to the Dodgers.

Speaker 4 (21:16):
All these Dodger fans like, what are you talking about?
I get it, man, Yeah you thought.

Speaker 10 (21:21):
Also Charles Haley going to the Cowboys from the Niners.
Not that I'm a Niner fan, but I'm a Washington
fan and I hated to see him come to the NFP.

Speaker 4 (21:32):
Sure, sure, there's the whole deal. Like Dion didn't have
a lot of a lot of equity in San Francisco,
but still he left for Dallas. But it was different
with Charles Haley for how much he was a member
of that forty nine and I'm sure they're forty nine
er fans that that feel the same way about Charles Haley,
even if he's a Commander's fan. There's yeah, no, I
get it. Braves fans. Yeah, you're like, okay, well, get

(21:53):
we got Matt Olson. Everything's great. I mean yeah, but
it's but it's that like to the point of even
Jason talking talking about Corey Seeger and thinking all the
replacement will be fine, we'll take care of it. Still,
when someone is such a fabric of your community. It's
a really big deal Rogers in Tacoma, in the great
Pacific Northwest. I'm wondering, is it a Seahawk, is it
a Sonic? Is it a Mariner? Roger? Where are you going?

Speaker 10 (22:15):
Come on? Man?

Speaker 11 (22:17):
Well, first of all, okay, a fan of all, But
in the space of three years, the Mariner's loss Randy
Johnson and Alex Rodrigriz. But the first the worst, by far, is.

Speaker 8 (22:28):
Watching King Griffy Junior.

Speaker 11 (22:29):
Play in the Red Unifarm.

Speaker 4 (22:30):
I cannot watch it.

Speaker 11 (22:32):
I cannot watch a single highlight whenever he comes on
with those leaveless redstripe jerseys. I turn it this this guy,
he still is the most popular athlete in the Pacific
Northwest by far. I mean he has no rivals. He
the one guy said Mookie was the modern day Willie Maids.

Speaker 8 (22:50):
No, no, no, No.

Speaker 11 (22:51):
King Grifby Jr. Is the modern day Willy Maids. The
guy could do anything on a baseball field. His highlight
reel will last for hours.

Speaker 10 (22:58):
We still love him.

Speaker 11 (22:59):
And he came back, you know later, kind of broken
down and gave us a few nice little moments. But
there was nothing like the first time and seeing him
in the red uniform is brutal.

Speaker 4 (23:08):
I'll tell you what, Roger Dave Craig is the reason
why I'm a Seahawks fan. In all of Dave Craig's
eight other uniforms, and it hurt me to see him
not in a Seahawks uniform. It cut Roger great, great
submission at Ken Griffy Jr.

Speaker 7 (23:22):
And he still lives up to this day. Ken Griffy
Jr's name. That's what's crazy to me about Ken Griffy Jr.

Speaker 4 (23:28):
Everybody loved kids are wearing.

Speaker 5 (23:30):
A Ken Griffy Journer.

Speaker 4 (23:33):
The kid, Yes, he was the kid.

Speaker 5 (23:35):
The kid.

Speaker 4 (23:36):
Isaac Lohan Kron, do you have any nominations? I know
you usually keep, you know, down the middle of fandom wise,
but was there any player that just left and left
the mark on you and your soul?

Speaker 2 (23:53):
Hey, that was my straws greeting.

Speaker 4 (23:55):
I thought, I actually thought it was Howland leaving UCLA.

Speaker 2 (24:04):
For strunk Vegas.

Speaker 1 (24:06):
I'll give you a present one and a past one present.
Actually it was Keenan Allen being traded by the Chargers
to the Chicago Bears. There were no rumors preceding it.
It came completely out of the blue. He had been
coming off the best year arguably of his career, and
dating back to when I was growing up, I was

(24:28):
the biggest LA Kings fan ever back then. When Wayne
Gretzky was eventually traded by the Kings away to the
Saint Louis Blues, that really signified the end of my childhood.
It signified an end of an era in my life
and sports fandom, especially at that time. The Blues had
very odd looking like blue, yellow, red, and orange uniforms,

(24:52):
so they looked weird to begin with, and then you
put Gretzky in that uniform.

Speaker 2 (24:56):
That's what it was for me.

Speaker 4 (24:58):
I remember when Ring when Gretzky joined the Rangers, and
I was working at Champs and it happened the day
before and a guy walked in and was like, you
got any Gretzky Ranger jerseys? Like no, it happened yesterday.
Like no, they just didn't make them over at night
and ship them to Madison, Wisconsin. No, it did not happen.
We don't have any. We probably won't have any for months,

(25:19):
to be honest, I don't even know if we're gonna
have hockey jerseys. I have no idea. I will never
forget that guy's face. Oh my goodness.

Speaker 7 (25:28):
People say there's no such thing as a stupid question,
and then you get one like that.

Speaker 4 (25:32):
Yeah, yeah, of course we don't. It happened fourteen hours ago.

Speaker 1 (25:36):
It probably didn't have Gretzky Ranger Jerseys in the Madison
Square Garden.

Speaker 4 (25:43):
Scott tweets in I'm in Seattle on the heels of
the call. We just had Ken Gravier Junior, Randy Johnson
we mentioned, and Sean Kemp. Yeah, Sean Kemp. So yeah,
there's I can get it. Dave is in New York,
Dave walking to Cavino and Rich who burned you?

Speaker 10 (25:58):
Hey, hey, guys, I think Johnny Damon, alex Fordugo and
Jacoby Ahlsbury leaving a Red Sox and going to.

Speaker 4 (26:08):
Oh gosh, yeah, make a list. Roger Clemens. I know
there was a stop in Toronto in between. But yeah,
those uh, those those things.

Speaker 7 (26:17):
When they do go to like big rival or like
somebody that's always been a tough competition, it hurts even more.

Speaker 4 (26:23):
Yeah, you know, how is Wade Bogs on a horse?
How we remember Wade Bogs in a Yankees uniform instead
of you know, hitting for the Boston Red Sox, Like
that's my memory Wade Bogs on a horse with the Yankees.
It should be of the Red Sox Iowa, Sam, I
know in Iowa it's difficult. I don't know if there's
but those sports wise, I know you're a Packers fan.

Speaker 3 (26:44):
Yeah, just because I didn't really follow, like root for
pro sports during the first part of my life. The
only thing that comes to mind for me. And this
isn't so much like I felt burned or you know,
cut deep by this, but when Jordy Nelson did leave
the Packers, even the Raider, which is just not a
rivalry and he didn't do anything with the Raiders. They
weren't doing anything anyway. But when he left, I felt

(27:05):
that that void, I felt that lost because he was
like the magnet for Aaron Rodgers through some great times,
just catching passes out of bounds, and he was a
part of their Super Bowl championship team. And when he left,
it was like that kind of felt like the best
times in Green Bay were starting to get further and
further away. I feel sorry for two fan bases in

(27:26):
this question. Timberwolves fans because Kevin Garnett, Yeah, and for
what he did and who he was for Minnesota, but
I mean he had his number retired by the Celtics.
Like it's just it's it's absurd to think that when
some other team would try to steal Kevin Garnett from
the Timberwolves, but it is actually happened. And because of

(27:48):
the title, I think that there are some people, not everybody,
but there are some people that maybe associate him with
the Celtics. And I was shocked by this one, and
I've talked about it. I've talked about it on the network.
How the Broncos have embraced Peyton Manning after his short
stint there for what he did with the Colts, the

(28:09):
rivalry with Brady and everything with it, and then his
record setting years where with Denver gets to go to
two Super Bowls in those four years, wins one. Like
to see how much Peyton Manning succeeded. And now he
lives in the Denver area, continues to live there. Like
if I'm a Colts fan, I'm just not over that.
I mean, because he is, he is your franchise. We

(28:30):
had Johnny and iidis you know call in earlier, but
I mean Peyton Manning is the Indianapolis.

Speaker 5 (28:36):
Colts, but that's not what he's remembered as and like.

Speaker 4 (28:38):
As of late, Like, I just think that the Broncos
like he should be remembered as a cult like there's
no doubt about it. But I just feel like that
the Broncos have gotten so much equity out of that orange,
so much juice out of that orange for the four
years from Peyton Manning that it kind of overshadows what
he did for so long in Indianapolis. That's just it's

(29:01):
those two examples stand out. We'll go to Jerry and Lancaster,
who's got two? Then we'll go to Isaac for an update.
I've got one more's as well. Jerry, Welcome to Cove no.

Speaker 11 (29:10):
One rich How you doing good?

Speaker 4 (29:13):
Good?

Speaker 6 (29:13):
How are you the good?

Speaker 10 (29:16):
I got two for you. I got lads Thomlinson.

Speaker 8 (29:18):
To the Jets and Eric Weddle to the Raven.

Speaker 4 (29:22):
M A Chargers fan, Jason Stewart to those things just
as much as I did for Jerry.

Speaker 9 (29:28):
Yeah, yeah, I can't say them as big a Charger
fan as a Dodger fan, but I net to see
where that hurts.

Speaker 4 (29:33):
I can see that are yeah, yeah, just uh and
and LT was was sufficient for the Jets. It wasn't
just a show up. And I mean it's tough to
match the numbers you put up with the Chargers, but
go Chargers, Go.

Speaker 10 (29:47):
Eric.

Speaker 4 (29:47):
We played for a couple of teams with the Rams
and Ravens went to winners and in one. But seeing
him go elsewhere, I'm sure had this sting. Ryan sweets
in Brett Favda Minnesota Jets didn't matter. Are Viking stung?
So there's there's that one as well.

Speaker 5 (30:03):
Mm hmm.

Speaker 4 (30:04):
There were probably no bigger Saints fans than Packer fans
when he threw that interception.

Speaker 7 (30:08):
I wonder if there's anybody out there with Saquon Barkley
joining the Eagles.

Speaker 4 (30:13):
It depends on how he does, right, That's what we're
sing or not. All those great.

Speaker 3 (30:19):
Giants teams that you know he left behind, you know
he has like that's what you knew.

Speaker 4 (30:23):
If he has any sort of success, it will be
it'll be he'll be remembered, especially too because of his
injury history with the Giants like and and everything that
came with it and the mess that was around him.
I'm sure that will sting. It is Cavin Richard, Fox
Sports Radio, Iowa. Sam laying it down for us. Dean

(30:43):
and Tony have been patient. Let's quickly go to Dean
and Lincoln. Who's got a great submission. Dean, Welcome to
Cavino and Rich.

Speaker 10 (30:50):
How you doing. The Cleveland Indians fan the two thousand
and nine World Series watching TC Sabathia against Cliff Lee
in Game.

Speaker 8 (30:59):
One of the World Series, talk.

Speaker 4 (31:04):
About rubbing salt of the wound a duel starting pitching lineup. Although,
thank you as a Brewers fan for C. C. Sabathia
for those three months when the Brewers tried to throw
his arm off like it was it was crazy. I
could get why that would stink. And Tony wrap it
up for us in the great state of Virginia. What
do you got, Tony?

Speaker 10 (31:21):
Hey, this this meets for Criteria's mid Hall of Fame career.

Speaker 8 (31:25):
Two hated rivals Mike Messina from the Orioles to the Yankees.

Speaker 4 (31:29):
Oh yes, absolutely, Moose that is that is great Mussine.
I liked Mussina back in the day, and it's harder
to like him when they're on the Yankees. It was
it was much more difficult to do. So I'll give
you my final one, which one at the time, it
was kind of exciting, But looking back, I wish it
never happened when the Bucks traded Ray Allen to the

(31:52):
Sonics in the Gary Payton trade, because now you look
back at ray Allen's career and nobody even thinks of
the Bucks. No, but he was such a big part
of it. He was a part of that two thousand
and one team that went to the Eastern Conference Finals.
You think of Ray Allen, Celtics, NBA Champion, Miami, he
Jammy Heat, all of that. But for him to then
be when he was dealt he was Delta Seattle to

(32:13):
bring in Gary Payton, and then everything kind of fell
apart and that core was ripped up with Milwaukee. It
was a sad, sad day.

Speaker 7 (32:20):
Yeah, I know Ray Allen definitely. I think you think
Miami Heat and then you're like, oh, Celtics, and then
that's it. Yes, that's as far as your thoughts go.

Speaker 6 (32:28):

Speaker 4 (32:42):
All Right, it is a Tuesday. Ronnie James introduced Ian
Dalton Connects the Newest Lakers. I don't know what the
ratio was, but I would think questions. At some point
Ronnie had to say, like, does somebody want to ask
Dalton some questions? Just like Kate and Clark Boston.

Speaker 7 (32:59):
Yeah, that's exactly what I was wondering. We are broadcasting
live from the tyret dot com studios. Tyreck dot com

free road hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers.
Tyreck dot com the way tied buine should be.

Speaker 4 (33:15):
I Sam is here on a Tuesday. Hello Sam, Hello Hie.
All right, not too enthusiastic.

Speaker 7 (33:22):
Seriously, we apologize for inconvenient.

Speaker 4 (33:27):
Yeah, let's get Strauss back. Let's Jason Stewart present.

Speaker 2 (33:31):
Hello everybody.

Speaker 4 (33:35):
At Isaac Gloyd Cross.

Speaker 2 (33:37):
Hey America, what's happened with Chicken?

Speaker 4 (33:39):
Says the Keith Jackson impersonation best when I say Keith Jackson, Monty,
I know you're young, but do you know who we're
talking about?

Speaker 6 (33:51):
No?

Speaker 4 (33:51):
Okay, Keith Jackson, legendary college football announcer for years upon years,
just one of the absolute legends of the sport. Keith
or Keith Keith, not the candy.

Speaker 5 (34:05):
Bar okay, okay, got it, and not.

Speaker 4 (34:12):
The tight end who played in the NFL that it
was also Keith Jackson. But my favorite is Jason Stewart
sticking to the bit of his famous call. Now you
hear Isaac to the Keith jack Can you do your
Keith Jackson? Will Nelly call whoa?

Speaker 2 (34:30):
I'll tell you what. We got some Division III Triple
A community college football this week.

Speaker 4 (34:35):
That's pretty good. Now let's do Jason Stewart's.

Speaker 9 (34:38):
Matchup between cow and Alma Mater and Washington Nelly.

Speaker 4 (34:48):
Jason says it old Nelly like, oh yes, but I
love it. I think it's great. The best story I
ever heard was our buddy Jeffrey Gorman, who used to
host with his Steve in this Time Slader Fox Sports Radio.
When Keith Jackson and I and I feel like Isaac
and maybe Iowa Sam will be the only ones to

(35:09):
truly appreciate this. But when Keith Jackson would throw down
to Jack a Root.

Speaker 2 (35:17):
Remember with those big headphones, remember the Jack.

Speaker 4 (35:21):
Of Root war on the sideline. Yes, now do on
to Jack a Root. And I think Jeffrey thought like
that was just like one name like Beyonce or I
think that's what it was, or it was like jacka Root,
but he didn't realize that it was all like his
whole name, that his name was Jack space a route.
Jack now down to Jacker Root. That's great, Jamariquay, Yeah,

(35:44):
fair the same. This great great times. We love looking back,
and today gives us an opportunity to look back at
the first half of twenty twenty four. And the reason
we are doing this is we are trying to right
or wrong from twenty twenty three. And the wrong was

(36:05):
done by Sports Illustrated when they named Dion Sanders the
sports Person of the Year for twenty twenty four. And
the reason being why that became wrong. And it wasn't
that Dion didn't do any good at Colorado, and it
wasn't that he wasn't the topic the conversation. This is
how I envisioned things to happen. At some point in

(36:27):
late August and early September, Sports Illustrated starts planning, Hey,
we got to do our sports Person of the year.
Let's look back at some nominees. There was no one
whose name was hotter than Dion Sanders, and you unveil
this in early December. So really the nomination process probably
ended at what sometime in maybe October, because you got
to do a piece on it, you got to get

(36:48):
a photo shoot, you got to do the whole deal.
But there were many other nominees that had better years
than Dion Sanders, and especially as this team was not
heading to a ballgame and all of the momentum that
you had from September was really no longer there in December.

Speaker 5 (37:05):
When he was given the Sports Person of the Year, Yes.

Speaker 4 (37:09):
It just seemed like it was off base. So what
this allows us to do is to kind of help
Sports Illustrated and maybe others along. We're at the halfway point.
Some of the hay is already in the barn. The
names that we will mention as nominees I think should
be legitimate contenders for the award. Now, will they continue

(37:32):
throughout twenty twenty four when it's finally announced, will they
tail off? Who knows, But at least now we can
say this is a starting point because at this point
last year, the only thing we knew about Deon Sanders
was that he was telling players to leave if they
didn't want to be there, and if he didn't want
them there, that they were going to leave because they
hadn't played any games, they had an upset TCU, they

(37:53):
had none of that. This is why it is important
to it time and again do a check mark or
check in. So we're going to determine who we think
the sports Person of the Year is for the first
half of twenty twenty four. Well, take your thoughts like
we did on some of the some of the players earlier.
If you want eight seven seven nine nine on Fox,
that's eight seven seven ninine to six six three sixty nine,

(38:16):
or hit us up on Twitter at Dan Byron Fox,
at Manzi Blanos. If there was one person, anybody want it?
Hands show of hands, who wants to get their name
in first? You know what?

Speaker 5 (38:26):
Oh, Isaac, isa Sat Dibbs.

Speaker 4 (38:29):
Yeah, one nominee. We are not doing the name four
people and take it away from three other people so
they have nothing to say. It is my biggest pet
peeve when people can't decide for their own selves so
then they ruin it for everyone else. And I'm not
saying you do that, Isaac, I am just laying out
the lows, dude. Four teams here that I think could

(38:50):
win at all. Well, then what are we gonna say? Yeah,
all right, your one nominee sports person of the year
first half of time.

Speaker 1 (38:56):
I hate to say this because it's about their performs
on the field, but also culturally.

Speaker 2 (39:02):
I hate to say it, but Travis Kelcey.

Speaker 4 (39:05):
Okay, aw, interesting he was a nominee that I had
written down. Okay, I'm gonna just put Isaac by that one.
I actually think that's a pretty good nominee. Yeah. Super
Bowl champion continues to be in the headlines with his
relationship with Taylor Swift, and he actually has a season

(39:26):
to add more to that resume. Yeah, Manzi, do you
have a name?

Speaker 5 (39:30):
All right? Well, I think there's a couple out there
right now.

Speaker 7 (39:33):
Oh yeah, we're going to give one, but it's one
a with a really small one be connected to it,
all right. I think the spokesperson of the year so
far is Shoheo Tawny with everything that he has done
for the Dodgers, literally leading in every category, moved to
the leadoff spot, still kicking, but his first year twenty.

Speaker 5 (39:54):
Miles down the road from Anaheim.

Speaker 7 (39:56):
And then my one be is the Dodgers BA way
that just caught that line drive Did you see that video?

Speaker 5 (40:04):
I did that just saved show Hao Tani's face. That
bad boy was amazing.

Speaker 7 (40:10):
Javier Herrera Okaya, no, no, could we could we not
call him about boy?

Speaker 9 (40:15):
He's very much about man right, yes, about adults.

Speaker 5 (40:19):
Yes, he's amazing, amazing reflexes.

Speaker 7 (40:25):
And if it was Batman and if you wanted to
have hot that ball show he Otani may not be
in full attack right now, so I wouldn't be able
to nominate him.

Speaker 4 (40:35):
See well done, Thank you, very good. Nominees shut together
halfway points sports Person of the Year. I got one
Iowa Sam.

Speaker 7 (40:44):
I wonder who Iowa Sam's gonna pick low hanging fruit
for me?

Speaker 4 (40:48):
Did you want the reasoning or just a yes, yes
the reasoning. It's a woman.

Speaker 6 (40:53):
No.

Speaker 3 (40:54):
She played at the University of Yowall, no basketball. Her
name is Caitlin Clark. If you've been living under a
pebble for the last I don't know, two years, but
it's she doesn't even you know. She didn't win a title.
She got there twice the title game. This amount of
it's the amount of attention that she's brought. Who's her
name must be the most googled name in the last

(41:16):
six months, Like she's been on every talk show, not personally,
but talked about on every sports talk radio show. Her
name has been brought up constantly. She's literally made money
for her new league, brought more eyes, more butts in seats,
ticket sales have improved. So for me, it's an easy one.
It's low hanging fruit. It's Katelyn Clark.

Speaker 5 (41:35):
Yeah, I almost took it from you.

Speaker 3 (41:36):
If you would have done it, that'd be fine. I
would have just seconded that. I would have endorsed yourt
That would have been really good radio. I agree.

Speaker 4 (41:44):
I agree with what he said. I agree. Not that
we fake arguments here, but I'm glad that you guys
at least were I'm glad Manzi showed restraints. He's an
easy one, and I think, as I see Katelyn Clark
right now on a Gatorade commercial, that's right, Jason Short,
is there nominee that you have for sports Person of
the Year.

Speaker 9 (42:02):
I know this breaks the rules a little bit, but
I need to I need to co sign on the
Kaitlin Clark thing.

Speaker 4 (42:06):
I think.

Speaker 9 (42:07):
I think this is like head and shoulders above.

Speaker 6 (42:09):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (42:10):
For for my personal reason, I've been watching women's basketball
for the first time in my life. That's no exaggeration.
I'm watching women's basketball and it's because of one person,
and I'm not gonna get into the Angel Reyes thing
or it's Kaitlin Clark and that's it. And I think
that's probably the reason why she should win Sportsperson of

(42:31):
the Year at the end of the year. I think
she's been the transcendent force. She's been somebody an example
the Tiger Woods of college basketball. I mean, it's a
it's amazing, but I'm gonna go but something that's a
notch down. But it just checks a box here because
I can't pick Kaitlyn Clark. And I'm just gonna say
Danny Hurley good wins back to back titles at Yukon

(42:52):
and then teases the Lakers and doesn't take the job
and and kind of goes back to college. I thought
that was a pretty ballsy of him. Danny Hurley is
my suggestion.

Speaker 4 (43:02):
I also think because of the situation them going back
to back, now you've got a guy like Cooper Flagg
who's going to be coming in and playing for Duke.
That's gonna grab a lot of headlines. But it also
makes Yukon that must see program that we're going to
watch in November and December, and while he's already won
his title, you could have some of that carry through

(43:25):
this said, I mean a list of names. Danny Hurley
was on the that's a good one, Jase said. One
of the nine names that I listed, I won't give
you the other the other five that I have, I'll
give you one of the five. And of course, if
if it wasn't for an arrest on a Friday morning, Scotti,

(43:46):
Scheffler may have two majors in his back pocket. And
what has already been a completely dominant year on the
PGA Tour fifteen events, six wins to run. He's finished
in the top twenty five and fourteen of those fifteen events.

Speaker 5 (44:04):
Yeah, that sounds like domination, yes, And.

Speaker 4 (44:06):
So while we don't want it, we got to tread
very carefully in the Gulf world when you are comparing
someone to Tiger Woods. These numbers that he's putting up
are comparable to some of Tiger's most dominant times, and
then you have these wins to back it up. It's
made twenty seven point six million dollars so far. Elevated

(44:28):
events persons are a little bit higher. But again, if
he played well, the day that he was arrested. I
think everything just caught up with him the next day
and kind of ran out of gas. But if that
incident doesn't happen, and again his own fault, I said
it here, he should have stopped when the cops said
don't go anywhere. Whether he thought he was a copper wasn't.
I felt he brought it on himself. But if that

(44:49):
incident doesn't happen, there's a decent chance that he's challenging
bryceon to Shambo and then the Ultimate Winners winner Xander
Schoffley for the PGA Championship that week in Kentucky, and
he would have two of the three majors with the
Open Championship coming up in a couple weeks.

Speaker 9 (45:03):
Dan, what major brand is he?

Speaker 6 (45:04):
Is?

Speaker 9 (45:04):
He a Nike guy?

Speaker 4 (45:05):
Nike? Yep, he is?

Speaker 9 (45:06):
Okay, so how about this for uh Nike commercial? Scotty
Scheffler doesn't stop?

Speaker 5 (45:16):
I mean I like.

Speaker 7 (45:17):
It actually, Yeah, well, even if you tell him to,
I think, just do it.

Speaker 4 (45:24):
We'll just be fine. I think that's that's that's good enough.
We want to know your thoughts on who are sports?
I think we have a pretty good sampling. Yeah, right,
now I do have a couple of other names, you.

Speaker 5 (45:37):
Know, honorable mentions.

Speaker 4 (45:39):
Let's go yes, but we want to hear from you.
Eight seven seven nine six six three six nine. That's
eight seven seven nine nine on Fox. And you can
always reach out on social media at Manzy Belanos is
where you can get Manzi. At Dan Bayer on Fox
is where you can find me. And I was Sam
ninety nine at Jason Stewart and Isaac Glow and Crown
is where you can find the rest of the crew.
All Right, we're we're gonna settle by the end of

(46:01):
the show on who is our Sportsperson of the Year.
For the first half, we'll take more nominees
