Speaker 1 (00:22):
Hello, Welcome Inside, Happy Monday. Jason Smith, Mike Harmon in
for Coveno and Rich. Kind of weird. We're back, first
time back you and I together, Mike, after you both
went on vacation, both of us in the United Kingdom,
separate vacations, and then here we are getting a gion
during the day for a little bit talking about everything happening.
This is kind of fun, a lot of chaos.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
There are a couple of stories that were mysteriously absent
on the list you sent me that I thought might
have been an invisible ink. So I was gonna get
rope adoped into big discussions, but I think it might
have been even a better story with you always saying
you know my best friend, Mike Harmon. Sure, maybe you
just sell the idea that we went to the UK
together and had a bunch of Shenanigans.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
No, well you went the week before and then and
now I was gone last week. I'll tell you, I'll
be honest. I get so we came. I went to
you know, you went. You and I both went to
the You went as a swiftye you went to Life.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
Ye.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
Yeah, we went as Harry Potter nerds because we went
to do all the Harry Potter stuff who went to
UK and Scotland. Got on the plane from Scotland, Okay,
and flew back Saturday into Sunday. All right, Now, it
was a long flight obviously, was eight and a half
hours from Scotland to New York. And then we had
a thing on our plane. Our plane couldn't take off
because there was some kind of wheel adjustment. So we're
(01:35):
on the plane for an extra hour and a half.
A time we take off, we land back in LA.
I turned my phone on and in that time, okay,
in the time we took off from Scotland, Okay, and
then all the hours late the United States, doctor Ruth died,
Richard Simmons died, Yeah, Trump got shot, Shannon Doherty died,
(01:55):
and Jacoby Jones died. I wanted to get back on
the plane to go to Scotland. I'm like, what the
hell is going what the hell has happened? I'm going back,
I'm going back, I'm going back. This is awful. What
a horrible weekend this is? Yeah it was.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
It was a pretty miserable run of lines, you know,
all the way through, just one notice after another. Look
a couple of really nice long runs. I mean, Doc Ruth,
what was she ninety six?
Speaker 1 (02:19):
Ninety six? Yeah, man, she was.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
She was giving people, you know, advice and teaching people
about sex at times. That is right, getting on for
all those years. And then you know, Richard Simmons had
just started to re engage the public based on you know,
there was a movie going to be made about his life,
and he was mad about it because he wanted to
do his own thing. So he'd been starting to go
through his life and posting a bunch and then he
(02:42):
turned seventy six, Yeah, passes away.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
Just crazy. Really, I'm sitting going, well, how many what
what could possibly happen? This is just a what a
horrendous weekend this is? This is all look at all
these things. I'm like, and I got on a plane.
I was like, okay, getting back everything and I get off,
I go, oh my god, all this. I mean, we're
gonna get to Jacoby Jones coming up, because what what
a what a horrible story that is passing of one
of the great legends in Super Bowl history. We'll have
(03:08):
that coming up later on this hour, because honestly, you know,
look that guy, he should have been the MVP at
the Super Bowl. I mean, well, look we'll look back
at it. He should not Joe Flacco. He should have
been the MVP of that Super Bowl easily one hundred percent.
Uh but Frostburg, what you said, I'm missing something? What
am I missing? What else am I missing?
Speaker 2 (03:25):
Here?
Speaker 1 (03:25):
The Dodgers back to back epic losses? Yeah, sure, he
was trying to be nice g on the comeback. No,
I was what would you give up eleven runs in
the ninth to lose to the Dotna Tigers? Yeah? We
messed it. Yeah, you know, I will say that it
was kind of fun waking up in the morning to do,
you know, being with the time change in the UK,
Like waking up in the morning. Okay, I'm gonna go
(03:46):
down to breakfast at seven point thirty and the Mets
game has just ended, right like all the all the
game just ended. We're just over eight eight o'clock in
the morning. Game is just ended. All right, great, I
could read about the recap and everything else. I'd mean,
that was kind of cool, a little weird, little weird,
but it was kind of cool.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
Yeah, during my trip, what was funny is, uh, you know,
the deal with the girls was, Dad, you're not gonna
be posting a bunch. So there are very few tweets
I think during during my week off, a couple of things,
you know, the concert and some of the other nonsense
that we took in.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
But anytime I want.
Speaker 3 (04:17):
To react to a sports thing I read or a
clipped by and it was like they started cursing at me,
beat me up. It was like, all go to do this,
Like no, no, no, you're not in front of some
landmark or something. You're not doing those You're trying to
do a sports take from abroad. You're on vacation. I'm like,
all right, fine, and I acquiesced I do have a
(04:37):
few of those saved, so those rants already.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
As the week goes on, well, I'll tell you because look,
obviously this has been a huge last couple of days
in soccer and being in the in the in the
throes of it in England for the euro Look, I'll
tell you what you think. Everybody hates Greg Berhalter here
in the United States. That is not they do. That
(05:00):
is nothing compared to what English fans felt about Garrett Southgate,
the head coach of the English team. They're in the
every every cab driver. I talked to everybody, Hey, you
guys in the you know it look because obviously the
entire city there is two games. While I was there,
the city shut down. It was like the Super Bowl, right,
everybody watching in the pubs.
Speaker 3 (05:20):
Yeah, just outside right, all the rails and guards, guard
rails and security, triple underscore security outside of those bars. Yeah,
we experienced the same thing.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
I'll tell you man, and and just everybody, Hey, how
do you feel? You got to be excited? And they
would all say the same thing. Have you seen us play?
Have you seen us play? Southgate? I don't know, I
don't know what's going on with him, Like they're in
the Semis in the final and it's I don't know,
I don't look. And I get that England was playing
a strategy that was really hey, you know, how are
they going to score? And Harry Kane is not the
guy wasn't in great shape. But it's like this is
(05:54):
I mean, Burholter, we couldn't. We couldn't get out of
the group in the Euros, in in the in the
Copa America. They're going to the finals. And still it's like,
I don't like him. I don't like them. I don't
like South gets like you got it, you care unbelievable,
you can you gotta understand that you gotta be okay
with some kind of success. No, no, no, no, I
don't like him. Don't like him. I don't like I
can't stand no. Not one person, not one person liked him.
(06:16):
And I'm going, wow, you think we hate Burbhalter? Here
this and he he achieved nothing like you know, here's
South games like, hey, you know his strategy people, it's
a little a little weird, you know, it's a little
bit more defensive and all right, I got it, but
you're in the finals in the euro No, I can't
stand him, can't say we need somebody new he's doing this.
He's doing this, Oh my goodness. And it's anybody wanted
(06:37):
to weigh in on that. It's it's you think the
Yankees are a big deal. No, no, no English, English soccer.
Oh my god. That's why I'm like everybody I ask,
I gotta ask what do you think? What do you think?
Like every single tour guides on, we're going, Hey, what
do you think of? Anybody? Have any questions? Hey? You
excited to be in the semis Uh? If we had
a better manager, I'd be excited. Okay, great, thanks, and.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
The kids starts yelling at you. We're supposed to be
talking about Dumbledore. Damn it. I want to know how
to cast a spell. And you're asking about bad offensive productions.
Look at least offensively.
Speaker 1 (07:10):
They were better than France. Yeah no, but look, but
here's it. Here, here's the thing. And we obviously with
the last couple of days with the Copa America here
in Argentina winning last night and Spain winning yesterday. Look,
I got news for everybody. The last couple of weeks
has been such big stuff. Hey, who are we gonna get?
Are we gonna get klop? That's a bit? You know
what's gonna happen all this, all this Spain is gonna
(07:32):
win the World Cup in two years. Okay, yes, they're
missing a striker but this is like next generation Spain.
All their great players are young. They put a lot
of pressure on the opposition. They were the best team
in the Euros by far. I mean, they would have
wiped up the floor with Argentina. It was like the
Copa was like a rock fight with Argentina and Uruguay
(07:52):
compared to watching Spain, like they just put so much
pressure on everybody else. Now they're missing a striker and
you need and to win World Cups, as we've seen,
you need the couple of games where hey, things are
not going our way and you have the one striker
that can tip play because he could take one great
shot from outside the box where he can make one
great run and that's the difference in the game. You
(08:13):
need that and they don't have that. But overall Spain
is not only the best, but like I said, they're young,
and in two years, I don't know that it's not
gonna be just an easy march to the World Cup
for Spain. I'm telling you right now because two years
from now, when it happens, gonna be oh man, yeah,
Jason's yeah telling you Spain is gonna win the World
Cup in a couple of years and it and and
it might be one of those like German runs from
(08:34):
like ten years ago, and we thought they were gonna
have this huge dynasty. But when they steamroll to the
to the World Cup, I mean, that's how good Spain was.
And all these players, they're all so young, and they're
so talented, and they're so fast, and just you know,
in two years they're gonna be even more in their prime.
I mean, it's it's really going to be something to watch.
So for all of this, hey, we're gonna see the
United States now here. In two years, Spain's gonna be
(08:56):
hoisting the World Cup trophy.
Speaker 3 (08:57):
It's gonna I just look at the gap again and
get out of you know, the basics in Copa America.
Let alone try to fight through and make him run.
And then you look at the Euro twenty twenty four.
Now it's some of the strategy when you get to
extra time and stuff. You know that I wanted to
throw rocks at my TV at points because of the
(09:18):
we're not playing to win, we're just playing not to lose,
and then we'll take our chances and penalties. But one
of my favorite photos coming out of Euro twenty twenty
four was Lemnamal who turned seventeen the day before he
gets the title, and he was on the field and
he's holding his little brother and he's smiling, he's laughing.
(09:38):
So I mean, that's another twenty years of misery for
international soccer participants going against him, because you know, he's
gonna trade his ass up and he's gonna be ready
to run over people too, because some of the moves
that kid was making yesterday.
Speaker 1 (09:52):
And he plays defense too.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
Right, we all the one thing that we always talk
about in these competitions is, yeah, I can get a
from the guys on the wings. Yeah, but are they
gonna commit and play back and go and play defense.
This guy was getting after it and part of it
is the hey, youth, you're getting your shot, but you
gotta get me both ways. Okay, cool, But if he
keeps that up, I mean you're really in trouble because
(10:16):
his footwork and his speed is just gonna be a
problem for years to come. So yeah, Spain was just
so much fun to watch in a tournament that was
great overall, but let's face it, not not classic classically
aesthetically pleasing at times.
Speaker 1 (10:34):
No, overall, both tournaments were not esthetically pleased. Like most
of the teams had trouble scoring. Yeah, the only Spain
loo because Spain had what forty five goals in six games? Whatever,
it was. A lot of teams had trouble scoring. It
was very it was very difficult. And and you know,
the big thing I take away one of the most
(10:54):
fun things from from the Cope America right because we'll
get to the fact that hard Rock Stadium was overrun
by Argentine defense last night. You know, my favorite part
of the KOPA was is that watching Alexi Lawless and
Clint Dempsey and Carly Lloyd on set. It's such a
marked difference from when the United States is playing and
(11:15):
when anybody else is playing, Like when anybody else is
playing and they go to then Robstone at halftime says, hey,
all right here, hey halftime, a great game. We got
Argentina halftime in you'reguay nothing nothing. What do you think Carly,
who's had the better end of the play, and Carlo
it says, well, it's about fifty to fifty so far.
Both teams are doing good things. Alexi, what do you think? Well, look,
I like what I like what Argentina is doing here.
(11:36):
I got a little bit of question or Columbia rather,
I got a little question for Columbia here. But Columbia
is doing this. This is okay this year Clinton, what
do you think? Well, look, I like what I saw
here out of Argentina. All right, what'd you think in
the Euro Well, I like what I saw out of
Anglo I like here. And then but you put them
on after the United States plays a game and it's
like they're foaming at the mouth to say how bad
(11:56):
we suck? Right, Like that's like like you you watch
them and go and we need to fire Burholter, and
the players all stink, and we all stink, and what
are we doing with US soccer? And you could feel
the steam coming out of the television set. But then
you watch them last night and it's like, oh, yeah,
you know, here's just regular soccer analysis. Yeah. No, I
like here in the first half of the defense needs
(12:17):
to be a couple of times there's missed assignments and
they were able to get back. But that's okay, they're
gonna get that for the second half. Where in the
United States it's look at these misde signments. This is
not this is not something that can happen. Greg Burholter
must pay with his life for this job. I cannot
believe this. But every every other team is, oh, yeah,
hey it's this, Oh no, no, this is guy. Both
teams are playing well, both these ava chants that. That's
(12:38):
such a marked difference, because I'm like, I turn on
the television, I'm like, they're just foaming at them out.
They're like racehorses when you get out. I want to
be the first one to say Greg bur Alter's gotta
get fired. But then everything else is just yeah, we're cool,
we're here, We're talking about this is here in euro
and Spain and England and everything else, and Jude Bellingham
and all out, George George Row. It's it's it's such
(13:00):
a difference watching that coverage, it was insane.
Speaker 3 (13:03):
Well, but if you go on Twitter or your various
social media platforms and you follow along when they're talking,
they're getting just as much heat back at them. So
it's really a fun back and forth. But whenever they
go in on the US soccer, the organization, the build up,
the you know, and our system in the US as
(13:23):
a whole, you might as well have. My most used
meme is that Elmo with the fire behind him. You
might as well get that, you know, with that chorus
from the Duel of the Fates out of Star Wars
working behind it as they start talking, Because that's really
where we head when we get into US soccer with
former legends like Lawless and Dempsey.
Speaker 1 (13:43):
But I'm sitting in I'm going I'm going, really, we're
this worried about about the United States and too is
when Spain could beat us seven to nothing right now?
I mean seriously, I mean, really, how were this worried
about it? When I mean, come on, we lost the
Columbia what five one? And they I don't think they
scored a goal all the way to the to the
finals of Copa. It's like, it's like, really, what we're
worried about? Spain's gonna Spain's gonna win by one hundred?
(14:05):
What are we worried about here? What are you really
going crazy about?
Speaker 4 (14:08):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (14:08):
Exit? Out? About a Fresca exit, swollen dome, Jason Smith,
Mike Harmon in for Cafino and Rich today I will
have more soccer coming up again because apparently, you know,
it's gonna be difficult for us to hold the World
Cup because you know, We're not ready at hard Rock Stadium,
but coming up next we are here at the break
MLB Home Run Derby coming up later on tonight and
two Big bowld predictions for the second half Major League

the airwaves and advance of our turn to our our
night show tomorrow night. After big vacations for both of
us United Kingdom, Harmon still making bracelets for Taylor Swift.
Speaker 3 (16:26):
I'm already working towards two years from now when the
next tour happens.
Speaker 1 (16:30):
Yeah, because you got to have more bracelets by yet,
the advancements and bracelets in two years, you gotta start
working on it. Well.
Speaker 3 (16:36):
I also think I'm gonna start just taking them to
every game and making them for every game and concert.
I go to you and just try to make friends
and have a network because it allows me to talk
about Fox Sports Radio a lot too.
Speaker 1 (16:49):
Here. Oh you'll be the bracelet guy. You'll be the
bracelet Oh no, go talk to the bracelet guy. He's
that host on the raid. He's got Taylor Swift bracelets man,
Go talk to him. He's great. We did a little bit.
Speaker 3 (16:58):
I did a bunch of evangelizing both to Ireland and
in in Dublin and in London and getting around and
you know, talking to folks like because I was wearing
a Bear's pullover quite often, and you know, I met
an inordinate number of Lions fans.
Speaker 1 (17:14):
While I was playing. Let me just put it that way.
Speaker 3 (17:17):
And when you're on the train at twelve thirty in
the morning, I was going to get eleanor she went
and hung out with a friend that happened to be
in London the same time.
Speaker 1 (17:24):
Odd fund. But I go to get on a train
and there's seven drunk. You mean you were on the tube.
You were on the tubes. I was on the underground.
Mind the gap, moving fast, Mind the gap, Mind the gap.
Speaker 3 (17:35):
I want to know how many millions of dollars of
merch they sell that say mind the Gap.
Speaker 1 (17:40):
Mind the Gap. I was looking for mind the Gap
hoodie and I couldn't find one. I really wanted to
mind the Gap.
Speaker 3 (17:46):
I went to like ten stores that, Yeah, that's all
they had T shirts and hoodies.
Speaker 1 (17:50):
Yeah. I couldn't find any mine. And I couldn't find
any of the the Mets Phillies games from it early
in June unclear. It's like, where's all that stuff that's
probably like five pounds? Where's that?
Speaker 4 (18:00):
Like?
Speaker 1 (18:02):
I'm like, come on, man, I couldn't find any of
that stuff and I wanted it. I'm like, I want,
I'll buy that. I'll buy that Nike Mets Phillies you know,
London series hoodie for four pounds. Yeah, sure, come on
give me that. No, I couldn't find it.
Speaker 3 (18:13):
I was really hoping to run into a bunch of
that because we went we went over to Nodding Hill
and they have the Giant Street Market, so you got
all sorts of jewelry.
Speaker 1 (18:22):
Clothes, a bunch of clever things.
Speaker 3 (18:25):
But I was figuring I'd run into some of that
gear for you there, and it was none to be
found I did have a nice fresh made crape off
a truck.
Speaker 1 (18:32):
So that was delicious, very nice. Uh so, Mike and
Iron back. We have the Home Run Derby coming up
later on tonight. Uh pee Alonso trying to win again.
Look out the bats are He's like McConaughey and dazed
and confused. You know. The thing is is like, this
is the one day a year that I really miss
Chris Berman, like because you know, of all the things
(18:52):
that Berman did throughout his entire career calling the home
Run Derby where he had a call for every single
ball that went out out of the stadium right like
like like everybody would hit like twenty four home runs apiece,
and he would just back back, back back God. And
by the time he got to like the fourth round
of the derby, he had no voice. Back back back God,
(19:13):
that back God back God. Now guys just hit home
runs and call ravaged talks and oh yeah, what a
big power display. This is by Julio Rodriguez and all
boy Alonzo's now got five home runs in the row.
No No, Berman would call every time Brack Brack Brack
pract pack God and it's packed packed and it changed
God and I miss that, and I'm like, this is
(19:33):
the one because I really like at the end when
he couldn't even speak and he had absolutely no voice.
Now we're in the finals and can I really I
can't find a way back brack brac god mean, but
this is the guy. You keep that energy up, you
know what I mean? It's just another home run, Yeah,
I know that. Great pieces of Burmanism.
Speaker 3 (19:53):
Now you could just create it like the soundboard like
we had for Doc Emrick.
Speaker 1 (19:58):
Sure, and he doesn't have to be live.
Speaker 3 (20:01):
You're literally just sitting there with a keyboard like you're
a DJ at a club.
Speaker 1 (20:05):
Or you just AI him. Now I got a I Burman.
Some of the calls here are outstanding. He's in the game,
back back back, accountibal elector at the end of silence
of the Lamb's gone. You know, you can just tell
anything in there you want to.
Speaker 3 (20:20):
This is the one days comparedlect that's great.
Speaker 1 (20:28):
And uh fava beans, oh and Pete Alonzo eating that
ball like fava beans and a nice kiante gone home run. There.
It does a dimssa like this is he We should
be there to call the home run, not even NFL Draft.
All this stuff that but to hear him call everything.
There's like four hundred and seventy three home runs hit
(20:49):
tonight and he calls, would call every single while, like
I missed that, Like Rabbits has been doing it now
for almost a decade. And I'm like, come on, man,
this is when you can allow Berman to do something.
I mean, come on, the guy built the sp It's like, no, no, no,
we're shutting him out. Now, we're shutting with you can't
do anything for us anymore. You're shutting him out. You
can't do anything. Uh but look sitting here at the
break of the MLB season, a couple of big things
(21:12):
going forward, right Number one, Look how good the Mets are.
I mean, come on, man, I mean you want to
you want to talk about MVPs and great seasons people
are having. There's Aaron Judge and then there's Grimace. I mean,
come on, man, Look, wow, what Grimmas has been able
to do the last month and a half for the
Come on, that's unmatched in all of Major League Baseball.
Speaker 3 (21:29):
Yeah, my Grimace slides really went over well. When I
got back and did my one day run to Las Vegas.
Oh n, I want to talk about taking over a pool. Yeah, dude,
I'll tell you man, you were Grimace slides.
Speaker 1 (21:40):
People are gonna either gonna gonna grab you and steal
those from you, or they're gonna be your best friends.
Speaker 3 (21:45):
They did ask me if I was a Mets fan,
where I had to laugh. I go, no, I just
celebrate the fact that this guy was an evil character
when he.
Speaker 1 (21:51):
Was brought in. Check the lare, check the lare. But no,
it's so, they said. So wait a minute. So so
the guy you're best friends with that you do a
radio show, he's the Mets fan and he likes Grimace. Yeah,
and you were wearing the Grimace slides. Yeah, okay, that
doesn't track well. I mean, it doesn't make any sense.
It does, And then I get deeper into the purple.
I actually I am wearing purple shorts today in honor
(22:14):
of our return. And you know what, shut up.
Speaker 3 (22:20):
So yeah, it's uh, Grimace is one of the phenomenon
that I mean, really, we'll see if it carries over
into the second half. Now, your team's gonna have to
pitch a whole lot better, because what's kind of funny
is you look at Team E r A and Major
League Baseball teams you would expect. There's the Rockies and
the Marlins. Oh, the White Sox are down there, and
then over at number twenty two the Mets, two three TV.
Speaker 1 (22:45):
Pitch Twitch. We have Grimace, that's all. Weedy, we have Grimace,
that's all. But seriously, you know again, the two best
players this year have been Grimace and Aaron Judge. Aaron
Judge is gonna end up. I'll tell you this. He's
gonna end up twenty twenty four and we're gonna say
this is the best year we've seen a guy have
(23:06):
in fifteen years in Major League Baseball. He's already got
better stats than Bryce Harper, who won the MVP two
years ago with like thirty five homers and ninety four RBI.
He's got more than that at the break right his
ops is like one, it's one point one seven. Like
I know Sodo got all the run early on, but
he is having one of those. He could ait sixty
(23:28):
five home runs and knock in one hundred and sixty
runs right like I think, like Sammy Sosis, the last
guy UH to get to that. We are knocking one
hundred and sixty runs like twenty five years ago, and
Judge can make a run on that. He's gonna wind
up with a season of like hitting like three ten
or three fifteen, sixty five homers and one hundred and
sixty RBIs. And again, that's the best season we'll have
(23:49):
seen in over fifteen years. You got to go back
to like a rd it was two thousand and six
or two thousand and seven when a Rod had like
fifty and knocked in one fifty. But this is this,
this is the kind of year that Judges having where
he's already bettering other people who have won MVPs in
the last few years with what he's done just in
the first ninety five games. Like, what he's doing is unbelievable.
(24:10):
And look, you know I'm being serious about this because
you know a Mets fan and b you know, Gunnar
Henderson's my m v P pick in the American League.
That's not happening. But what Aaron Judge is doing, forget it.
I mean, Aaron Judges is having that guy.
Speaker 3 (24:21):
I have a way that that falls apart o man
part and part of it was during the uh the
MLB coverage on Fox a little earlier today, watching the interviews,
watching all the back and forth, it's it's it's a
fun festive environment with a Rod and Jeter and Ortiz,
and I agree, they just kind of threw up the well.
(24:43):
I don't know that I pitched to him, and I
forget who said it, because, you know, wandering around doing it,
you know, working working over to the side.
Speaker 1 (24:51):
You just had the sound nun and one of them
just said, ah, they ought to bond them. I never
pitched to him again.
Speaker 3 (24:59):
I thought it was the best respond just one word bonds,
like what they should bonds it. And that's the end
of the home run threat from there. Boy, Aaron Judge
has been walked four times tonight. That is forty seven
walks in his last five games. He has not had
an official at bat in three weeks.
Speaker 1 (25:18):
This is very very difficult.
Speaker 3 (25:20):
Oh, I mean, you look at that squad, right, you know,
and you go and break down would be contenders and
try to paint in what they need to do right. Obviously,
with the Yankees and with most teams, it's a lot
about rotations and depth and everything on that side. But
for the Yankees, they're having some of the same struggles
like say the Dodgers are out here is you got
(25:42):
a couple of guys that are been fantastic at the
plate and a bunch of guys who have it and
historically who played well. So you're looking for turnarounds, but
think outside of Judge and Soto. You you can mess
around a little bit. And well that's that's.
Speaker 1 (26:00):
How they'll project to protect that is they're just gonna
they'll just bat Soto behind Judge. It's like, okay, right now,
they're bat Soto in front of Judge. Oh they're walking
Judge too much. Well, let's flip up. These are the
only two guys that can get on base with it.
Let's walk both of them, all right, But they're gonna
be first and second. Doesn't matter first and second that
we'll we'll work it out. We'll put those guys on base.
Everybody else we can get out, doesn't matter. It'll work.
(26:20):
It'll work. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (26:21):
I mean, there's still top for all their struggles, and
it's more recent. Man, they're eighteen games above five hundred.
They had that come to Jesus moment where you had
to have Cashman and Steinbunner show up when they were
down in Tampa. Uh, there's still fourth in team era
at three five four, even with one guy falling off
(26:41):
after another right Rodin had the run, great run up top,
and now he's struggling and just keep going on down
the line.
Speaker 1 (26:48):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (26:48):
But from the hitting perspective, there's an opportunity to Uh,
they're gonna make some noise. I would suspect as we
get into the into the trade deadline, hitting two forty seven,
which sat in Major League Baseball today, is good enough
for eleventh majors.
Speaker 1 (27:05):
So there's your first big bullpitition for the second half
of Major League Baseball. The second a big time World
Series contender. I am absolutely worried about. But first, Dan
Bayer has what's trending in the wide world of Sports dB.
What do you got for US guys?
Speaker 6 (27:19):
Interesting day in the world of basketball. Team USA playing
an exhibition against Australia, one that the Americans were victorious
in ninety eight ninety two. Anthony Davis in that ninety
eight ninety two win, had seventeen points in fourteen rebounds
for Team USA. But it's a guy who's not on
Team USA that could be making some headlines. As Clipper's
president Lawrence Frank says, the team was disappointed that Kawhi
(27:39):
Leonard wasn't kept on the US Olympic team, claiming it
was solely the call of USA Basketball. Frank believes that
there was no setback for Leonard as he returns from
a knee injury, adding that Kawhi looked good in practices
and that ultimately, yeah, team USA decided to make a change.
Tonight it's the Home Run Derby, then tomorrow the Midsummer Classic.
You'll see it on Fox as the Ale take on
(28:00):
the NL. We knew that Paul Skemes was going to
start for the National League. Today we found out the
starting lineups and the starting pitcher for the American League
as Orioles Ace Corbyn Burns will be tabbed as the
starter for the American League tomorrow night in Arlington. Presno
State and football coach Jeff Tedford stepping down because of
medical reasons. It's his second stint at the school, now
stepping down after two seasons where the Bulldogs went to
(28:22):
Bowl games in both of those years. Assistant linebackers coach
Tim Skipper will now serve as the school's interim head coach.
The Lions will be inducting Hall of Fame wide receiver
Calvin Johnson into the Pride of the Lions at halftime
of their Monday night game against the Seahawks on September thirtieth.
Keithon Mitchell of the Ravens going to start the year
on the pup list as he returns from that torn
(28:43):
acl and the winner of this week's Open Championship at
Royal Troon, we'll take home three point one million dollars,
still not as much as Bryson de Shamba won at
the US Open, but still the highest amount that a
winner would take ov and take home in the Open Championship.
Speaker 1 (28:58):
Guys, back to you so just real quick before you
get back. So the Clippers, who need Kawhi Leonard healthy
right like this is the whole We gave him three years,
one hundred and fifty minute. He's not been healthy for
five years. They're upset that he's not gonna have to
play more basketball in the summer. They're upset. Really they
want him on Team USA so we can go through
(29:19):
all the wear and air and then come back after
a short time away to get ready for the season.
They're really upset that he's not on Team U. It's like,
come on, man, it is really.
Speaker 3 (29:28):
It is one of the more curious turns that we
have right because when Kawhi left Team USA, it wasn't
the report that it was a mutual decision and that
the Clippers actually had a lot of sway and saying
this in terms of wear and tear and where he was,
not that he didn't look fantastic.
Speaker 1 (29:44):
I think that's been put there, you know, by by
all camps throughout this process. But Laurenn's Frank going out
of his way to say, hey, that wasn't us. Don't
blame us.
Speaker 3 (29:55):
I mean, is he is he trying to apologize to
you know, for the uh, the entire Derek White Jalen
Brown thing. It's like, look, if they just kept Kawhi
like we wanted him to, you guys wouldn't have all
of this other content.
Speaker 1 (30:08):
I mean, come on, just interesting, like, hey, we really
need him healthy. Oh so he doesn't have to play
all summer. Yeah yeah, yeah, Oh well now we're upset.
What what do you mean you're upset? Just be happy that
he's sitting and not getting more wear into. So here
we are at the All Star break and I am
honestly not from making the playoffs, but this is a
(30:28):
world series or bust year for the Dodgers. Who spent
all kinds of money on Otana. Yes it's deferred, but
they win the bidding war for him. They spend money
on Tyler glass Now, they spent three hundred million dollars
on Yamamoto, and they have been a five hundred team
for the last couple of months. And they are in
a big time pickle with starting pitching. And this is
(30:50):
why I'm worried, because normal is that well the deadline,
the Dodgers, they need something they can go get. There's
not any starting pitching that's gonna be really available to
deadline that you really want to go get. This is
not one of those years where, oh, there's so many
guys out there. If we need a starting pitcher down,
we can get him. They are banking on the returns
of Kershaw, Buehler, Miller, and glass Now and Yamamoto, and
(31:12):
that's just too much. Right. Kershaw is thirty six, coming
off an injury that's gonna keep him out till the
middle of the year. How good can he really be? Right, Bueller?
They sent him down to the miners because he's got
pasted when he was up here for his eight starts
trying to come back. Miller goes down to the miners
because he's not good. You have no idea when Yamamoto
is gonna pitch again. You gave him three hundred million dollars. Yeah,
(31:32):
Jim is sixty day. I mean yeah, with this kind
of year from Otani and there's not a lot of
help out there, like this is this is not suddenly
a hey winner take all, Dodgers are gonna roll all.
Like I could see the Dodgers just just getting swept
out of the of the playoffs easily because they don't
have anybody that can throw in the fall, like you,
(31:54):
you need some kind of starting if there's anything we
saw last year, Hey, the Dodgers with Mookie Bets, Freddy Freeman,
this lineup can hit. What happened boom Kershaw got gott
rocked around in the first game against the Padres, and
that they were done right Like I am like if
you said to me, hey, the no, no, no, it's
wide open because the Dodgers have so much starting pitching
problems and you can't just bank that everybody coming back
(32:16):
is going to be healthy because they're not. Right. You
get ohthough, yeah you got five guys coming back, but
they're all trying to come back, and you have no
pitching now, and you don't know what they're gonna come back,
like a suddenly, Walker Bueller gonna come back and be unbeatable,
like you're hoping Tyler Glass now is able to come
back soon and likely he will be. So that's gonna
be okay. Look, the guy's an All Star. But everything
else you were counting on. You didn't go that crazy
(32:39):
in the offseason because you know, well, we got Curshaw
coming back and Bueller's gonna be back, and now these
are all huge question marks. Man. The Dodgers have not
played well. They've just kind of been treading water. And
this is a team that gets to the playoffs and
all of a sudden, it's what just happened in that
quick series, you know they lost. They lost seven to six,
eight five, and ninth and nine to four. Like that's
(33:00):
what I can see for the Dodgers. So there's like
worry and then there's hey, man, I'm not gonna be surprised.
This is a quick out for the Dodgers in the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (33:08):
It's tough, I mean, because you talk about the starting
pitching woes and then we can immediately turn it right
back over into the starting lineup, and what you've seen
is struggles.
Speaker 1 (33:18):
Outside of your all stars.
Speaker 3 (33:19):
And now you expect Mookie Bets back, you know, hopefully what
early August is the expected return. But some of the
prospects that you used to complain about that we're all
hitting three fifty when they called up. Guess what, I
think they're hitting a combined three fifty right now. So
you've got those struggles that are going on in terms
of that next level process. But yeah, you go through
(33:42):
and look at what starting pitching may be available. I mean,
you got Crochet of the White Sox that everybody's gonna
come after as one of the targets.
Speaker 1 (33:50):
But how many innings does he have left? Can you
use him as a starter?
Speaker 3 (33:53):
Does he have to go to the pen and then
maybe re emerge, you know, as you know, a ha,
here's another lefty if his stuff and his arm are
still good. So you got that a couple of guys,
you know, Evaldi and a couple of guys maybe depending
on what Detroit decides to do. But there's not a lot.
(34:13):
You know, you're talking about some veteran arms that are
on the injured list. I see on some of the
reports and rumors. But to your point, everybody's looking for
pitching and they're ain't a lot of it available, So
you know you're gonna have to go and be really
aggressive in the marketplace if you're trying to shore that up.
But I'm with you, it's it's one of those hand
ringing kind of seasons based on everything you did to
(34:36):
put this roster together.
Speaker 1 (34:37):
Yeah, like, all of a sudden, if they get knocked
out in the early I'd say, yeah, one hundred percent,
I can see it because they just don't have the
starting pitching. They'll be starting having bullpen I can see
bullpen games in game two, Well we have Tyler last
now in game one? What about Game two, bullpen game?
What about Game three? Bullpen game? What about Game four?
We have no idea, Like that's what I see for
the like, Like, there's a lot of worry. It's not
(34:59):
just good because it's just been a steady stream of
the last decade of well, the Dodge will be fine,
we get to the playoffs, Yeah, they'll get there. But
all of a sudden, man, I mean, I don't know
how you solve that problem because everybody's not coming back
healthy and who knows when you're gonna get Yamamoto or anybody.
This is a really big deal, man, a teina we
had written into the World series. I can see them.
(35:20):
I can see them lose of the Mets in the
first round. If ah, how dare you look at that? Huh?
You're really just trying. First day, you're picking fights with
Frostburg to that level. Oh no, goodbye. I haven't got
talked about the Mets for like nine days. I can't talk.
I can't talk about the Mets in Scotland. Nobody knows
how I'm talking about. Oh no, that's why.
Speaker 3 (35:37):
That's why you just stand a post like so many
guys do for religious, political, or other purposes. You're just
stumping for the Mets. What's your grievance, sir, Well, let
me tell you about the Mets. Ever since this mythical
character came down to us and you're holding up a
pamphlet that has a picture of Grimace on it and
now you're evangelizing.
Speaker 1 (35:56):
Yeah, I go stand in front of the University of
Saint Andrews with a sign that says the Mets are
the best changed my mind. That's not a bad way
to go.
Speaker 3 (36:03):
How many of those did you see during your European travels?
As sure as Elle saw a lot of them, A
lot of bullhorns barking at me at what I should
and shouldn't do.
Speaker 1 (36:12):
Exit out about a Fresca exit swollen dome. Jason Smith,

Fox Sports Radio. Cavino and Rich Jason Smith, Mike Harmon
in for the guys today and uh we have a
big unmasked story coming your way in a few minutes.
Speaker 3 (38:12):
Unmasked, unmasked, unmask absolutely unmass wwe turned did I miss?
Speaker 1 (38:20):
So that's what we call it teas in the business,
Mike Harmon, But look to spend a couple of minutes
here on one of the tragic stories of this weekend,
the loss of Jacoby Jones, who passed away on Sunday
in his sleep at his home. It was it was
a shock, It was the it was something that I no, no, no,
(38:41):
not Jacob, Jacoby Jones. This is a guy who was
always so full of fun and and and every every
player who ever played with him said he was one
of the best teammates I've ever had. He was fantastic
and just an unbelievably sad story. And when I when
I thought about this and thinking about Jacoby Jones, I'm
thinking about talking about him today, and I go, you know,
(39:01):
this is a guy that really, you know, ten years
have gone by since since the Ravens won the Super Bowl,
and it still stuns me that he wasn't the Super
Bowl MVP that we're we're not paying homage to Jacoby
Jones super Bowl forty seven MVP, right because the Ravens
beat the forty nine ers in that Super Bowl. It
was the big Power outed Super Bowl where the forty
(39:24):
nine Ers came from behind. You had the questionable fourth
down pass and the end zone to Crabtree with no
pass interference being called. And Joe Flacco is the MVP
and looked. Flacco had a good game. He threw for
three hundred yards and a couple of touchdowns. But Jacoby Jones,
really it baffles me because this game went This was
a huge lead for the Ravens right and then the
(39:46):
lights went out, and when they got the power back
on was when the forty nine Ers came back. This
wasn't Joe Flacco going up and down the field answering
every forty nine Ers score. The score of his own.
Jacoby Jones caught a fifty six yard touchdown from Flacco.
That was a play that he made. Flacco underthrows a
ball that Jones comes back for catches the ten yard line,
(40:08):
goes down, gets up, runs around the defenders and into
the end zone for a score. This is not hey.
Jones had a step on the defender and Flacco puts
in a perfect spot. This is Jacoby Jones makes this
touchdown and yeah, okay, his only catch the game, but
a fifty six yard touchdown to give them a two
score lead. And then he opens up the second half
with the longest scoring play in Super Bowl history, one
(40:30):
hundred and eight yard kickoff return for a touchdown like
this gave them a twenty eight to ten lead. Like
the game was over at that point. Yes, the forty
nine ers did come back and it was a great
comeback by them, and the defense had to hold on.
But you're talking about the guy that made the two
biggest plays in the game to give them an incredible lead,
And yeah, let's default to Flacco because he's the quarterback.
(40:51):
I mean, Jones is the MVP of that game. Again,
the two biggest plays, and I guess, yes, they are
two plays, but you know it's a kickoff return. It's
one hundred and eight yards for a touchdown. What else
do you want from the guy? Right, it's fifty six
yard touchdown. He made it by getting up and getting
into the end zone when it was a play that
that Flacca was running for his life on and just
chucked it up Like I really, the more time goes on,
I'm saying, how is he not? How are we not
(41:12):
saying we're paying homatch Jacoby Jones super Bowl MVP.
Speaker 3 (41:15):
Now, I remember being in a We're at a restaurant.
We'd been doing coverage of that game all week. Only
a couple guys got to actually go. But it was cool,
like we had a giant TV. We're watching this and
that was the first thing we're yelling after. You know,
Placo gets the award. Now you look at it twenty
two to thirty three to eighty seven and three. But yeah,
(41:36):
normally you want to reserve it to impactful plays and
what are going to be memorable.
Speaker 1 (41:42):
You know.
Speaker 3 (41:42):
For me, I got a guy that just just getting
his his Hall of Fame Jack at Devin Hester, part
of which was the lore of having a touchdown return
in a Super Bowl, not to mention the one hundred
and fifty eight others that he had through his career.
Plight for Jacoby Jones always just a guy that you know,
I I've got a lot of media friends in Baltimore
said he was always the first guy to sign up
(42:02):
if they needed someone to show up to a charity
thing or any kind of event, just call me, and
you know, my timeline just flooded with pictures just a tragic,
horrible loss and hopefully a little light shone on the
run he had because I don't think anybody hyped him
up as a would be fantasy star more than me
for years.
Speaker 1 (42:21):
I'll tell you. And he had to call it the
mile High Miracle, which we'll get to next hour on
the show. I mean he had, he had some kind
of creat It should have been Jacoby Jones super Bowl MVP,
which could have set him up for so many other things,
you know, after his playing days were over. Just an
absolute tragedy. Rest in peace, Jacoby Jones, forty years old.
Coming up next, the Unmasked Story. I promised. This is Fox.

Hey, what's up everybody?
Speaker 2 (42:57):
It's me three time Pro Bowl of LeVar Harington, and
I couldn't be more excited to announce a podcast called
Up on Game? What is up on Game? You asked,
along with my fellow pro bowler TJ. Hutschman, Zada and
Super Bowl champion. Yep, that's right, Plexico Birds. You can
only name a show with that type of talent on it.
Up on Game We're going to be sharing our real

Birds on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you
get your podcast from for you.
Speaker 1 (43:38):
Meanwhile, mine is nice, a nice long how should we
say it? Flat line?
Speaker 4 (43:43):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (43:44):
No, dude, yeah yeah, not flat line. No, it's a
flat line. No, it's it's very difficult. Hear the beep
in your head as you say that. Well, look before
we get to the big unmasked story that I'm telling
you about in a second with the home run derby tonight,
and we got the starting lineups and that's American National League. Earlier,
Dan Byer had him in his update a few minutes ago.
(44:06):
You know this is a missed opportunity for Major League Baseball, okay,
because you have Paul Skeen starting the All Star Game
that has He's Steven Strasburg two point zero strasburg Mania,
skeens Mania. He's as big a must see player in
baseball since Strasburg came up fifteen years ago. And it was,
(44:27):
Oh my goodness, how many strikeouts were Strasburg? What's it
gonna be for him? It was, you know, Fernando mania
in the eighties, then we had Strasburg MANI now we
got Paul Skeen's mania. Right, he's starting the All Star Game.
We've talked about him. What an unbelievable player he already is.
You're the American League, Okay, you can really help out
Major League Baseball by saying, you know what, let's just
(44:50):
put Gunner Henderson, Juan Soto, and Aaron Judge up one, two,
three in the first inning against Paul Skeens and let's
let people no, no, no, but we're gonna put Stephen
Kwan leadoff spot. So maje, let's go. I get it.
But Stephen Kuan is not Henderson, he's not Soto, he's
not Judge. Just think about, Yes, maybe he gets to
(45:10):
face all four of those guys, those three guys in
the first top of the first inning, But think about
what what a push that would be for two days ago.
Man Skens is gonna get Henderson, Sodo, and Judge in
the how's he gonna do? I mean, this is like
All Star memories that are just waiting to happen, Like,
I what you gonna Can he strike all three guys out?
He's gonna throw one hundred and five miles an hour?
(45:30):
Can r is Aaron Judge gonna take it deep? But
it's different when it's okay, we're not batting. You know,
these guys aren't batting one, two, three, Like I get
the quant hitting three. But it's an all star game.
You can hit him fifth if he wait, doesn't matter.
You don't need to hit him first. How about you
do something a little bit for the game and go
all right, and then we can have two days of
lead up to skens with Henderson Soto and Judge or
(45:51):
Henderson Judge. However you want to do it instead? Oh yeah,
we're gonna Stephen Kuan first and then if he gets
out of the first and that might be it for him.
Maybe he doesn't even get to face Air and Judge
in the second inning, because is he really gonna go
two winnings? You go to throw more than that? Like
how do you not do that? Like how do you
not take advantage of that and go? You know, this
is something people really want to see, so let's do it. No, no, no,
(46:11):
I'm gonna put this line up together and have a
guy in three fifty four, Like, I get it in
a perfect world, but it's a bleep and all star game, Like,
how do you not do that? I don't understand.
Speaker 3 (46:19):
We are no longer in an era where this time
it counts, So let's play it for the exhibition that
it is.
Speaker 1 (46:26):
I mean, come on, let's let's lean into it. Thirty
two thousand, two hundred and one.
Speaker 3 (46:33):
Remember that Paul Sken's Sho Heo Tani showdown right struck
him out the first time and then the home run.
Speaker 1 (46:40):
Thirty two thousand and one.
Speaker 3 (46:41):
That's the number of tops Now cards that were sold
in a twenty four hour period to commemorate that, showing
how big and grandia And it's a terrible picture. They
really chose a terrible photo. But the point is that
people jumped on board to celebrate this grandiose against this
highly heralded youngster. Everybody's already photo shopping him into Dodgers
(47:06):
and Yankees gear, which is really kind of funny, but
against Otani and so so why not lean into it
and go the other side?
Speaker 1 (47:14):
Yeah, Hey, I get it.
Speaker 3 (47:17):
Kwand's fantastic, great defender gold gloves hitting three fifty two.
He ain't game game going up there swinging for the downs,
trying to challenge the eater. Come on, give us something,
give us some juice.
Speaker 1 (47:29):
I mean, it's not a playoff game. It's it's it's
it's a game for the fans and play How do
you not do that? Really? It baffles me that. Come on,
Bruce Bochi meant you you got your hat sizes like
eight and four quarters? I mean three quarter? Come on,
you gotta figure out it's gotta be you know, with
big heads are really smart. How do you not do that?
Come on, man, how do you not? I mean, I'm
hoping that maybe he changes his mind between the Hey
(47:51):
you know we're gonna do this. We're gonna do it,
and I gotta say, people get it. But how do
you not do that? I mean, I mean, I I
really this is it's such a huge moment that we
may not even yeah, like like I said, we may
even get him facing Sodo in the set. Is he
gonna go really go two winnings or not? I am
facing Judge? Is he gonna go? We may even see it? Like,
how do you potentially not see that as a thing
(48:11):
that could really help the game. I really it baffles me.
This is where Rob maffety steps in and go, hey, sorry,
but I'm gonna change your lineup. It's like Billy Bean
in Moneyball, Billy the lineup's mind. Yeah no, no, I'm saying
you just you can't start paying you at first because
he plays with the Tigers. Now, like this is where
Rob Manforth to day, Listen, you can't you can't bat
Stephen Quandt first. Why because I threw him off the
(48:33):
All Star team. You have to you have to bat
Gunner Henderson first, Ago Anderson, Soto and Judge you gotta
do it that way.
Speaker 3 (48:38):
Well, but there's a report from Bob Nightingale that he
you know, they were preparing maybe to start Chris Saale
and then he ended up pitching on Sunday. But the
thing Nightingale reported was that Major League Baseball and Rob
Manford might have actually been proactive and said.
Speaker 1 (48:53):
Hell no, Skins is the starter of this. So you know,
at least it appears now he.
Speaker 3 (48:59):
Got saved by the fact that he didn't actually have
to make a choice. But you know that schemes will
actually start sail back after all the injuries, former White
Sox legend then bounced around and now suddenly he goes
to Atlanta and tunnah, he's great again, good for you.
Speaker 1 (49:16):
Something that's real. I don't I get I don't get it.
I don't get how he doesn't do that. But you know, hey, whatever,
what do I know. I'm just a guy that's like, hey,
this would be a great moment for baseball. No, I'm
gonna rob you with that. Okay, great, thanks.
Speaker 3 (49:28):
Hey Kwan is hitting three point fifty two, No celebrated
guy that actually puts the damn ball in play in
twenty twenty four, because that's surely a problem across Major
League Baseball.
Speaker 1 (49:45):
I mean really, I mean, but like I said, what
do I know? But speaking of things, I do know,
after this weekend, Right after this weekend, I now can
tell you for certain what all the double WNBA, Caitlyn Clark,
Angel Reese, what all the hate is really all about?
(50:06):
Right this weekend specifically brought it home, for why have
things been so weird with this rookie class coming in
and Caitlyn Clark not really being accepted as well, someone
who's bringing levels of acceptance and notoriety of the game
that we've never seen in twenty five years. Right when
this all happened in the beginning, I remember, Look, we
(50:28):
told John our show, it's going to calm down. Eventually,
people are going to get past the whole Caitlyn Clark. Okay,
it's going to combat will be about basketball. But for
all the controversy that was thrown out there that it
was about Caitlyn Clark because she's white, Yeah, okay, not really.
Caitlyn Clark's you know, she's heterosexual and the league is
very a high amount of lesbian relationships. Yeah no, not really.
(50:52):
This is now after this weekend, you can tell this
is specifically about the jealousy that the people who have
been in in the WNBA have against this rookie class
because now it's not just Caitlin Clark, but it's Angel Reese. Right,
what do we see on Saturday? Right? Angel Reese has
had the double double streak all the way through. It's
been a big deal for her, right, set a WNBA
(51:13):
record for a double double streak. Now, is that a
really really big deal of double Okay, you know it's
not like she's scoring twenty eight points a game. She's
shooting less than forty percent from the field. But she's
pulling down a lot of rebounds, right.
Speaker 3 (51:26):
Sure, she had a couple of Rickey Davis moments in
this process, but lots of lots of like four misses
and four offensive rebounds.
Speaker 4 (51:33):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (51:33):
Or you're down the stretch and calling for the ball
in the final seconds of a game because she had
she's had chances.
Speaker 1 (51:40):
I can't says she hasn't had chances. So so here's
the thing. Is that the final possession of the game
on Saturday against the Liberty, when they were losing, they
got her the ball so she could get her double double.
Because you know Angel Reese's look. I told she's got
the biggest ego of anybody in sports. Like she talks about,
I'm setting records. I'm setting records, that's any record. They
(52:01):
give her the ball to get that bucket to get
to ten, and four Liberty defenders swarm her so she
can't and she has to throw the ball up into
four other players are standing around the arc going up
because they gave it to her just to keep the
streak going, which I get it. You're looking for something
like that. You want to you're losing the game by
ten points, you're not gonna happen. But they, the liberty,
did not want her to get that. When in the NBA,
(52:23):
it's gonna be yeah, whatever, we'll let you. We'll let
you score a oh, by the way basket with ten
seconds left. We don't really care. But they put four
players over, so you know that was a directive. We
do not let her get this double. We do not
let her keep this double double streak. Right, big time rookie.
Then you add the Caitlin Clark situation yesterday, uh after
Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever wind up with a
(52:46):
big win over Minnesota and Team USA head coach Cheryl Reeve, right,
you now know, without a doubt, Cheryl Reeve just hates
Caitlyn Clark and is jealous of the success that she's
bringing to the league. You add the tweets from the
beginning of the season when Cheryl Reeve was upset that
only the Fever game was being shown opening night. Why
aren't the other games being shown? And that's a WNBA's fault.
(53:08):
I've said they need to be able to handle success better,
but they put the Fever on obviously because it's Kaitlyn
Clark was people who want to watch. She's upset that
her team didn't get on and she responded to tweets about, hey,
we're more than one player. You know, We're an entire
league and we're more than just Caitlin Clark. So you
already know there's a little bit of backlash with Caitlin
Clark in her popularity. After the game yesterday, which Caitlin
(53:31):
Clark had a really good game, they closed out a win,
Indiana's playing well, she was asked following the game about
not taking Caitlin Clark on the Olympic team and what
show Reeve felt about that. When she was asked about that,
she said, why the hell would I answer a national
team question. I'm wearing links and I'm the head coach
(53:51):
of the national team, but I'm not the chair of
the committee. Anybody want to venture into anything else, right, Like? WHOA?
How about you just say, hey, hey, Caitlyn's a great player.
We have a lot of great players, and she'll have
a great career. She'll play in a bunch of them.
But we took the best players now. No, Instead, she
wanted to be snippy about a question about Caitlin Clark.
She also has asked about the crowd, Hey, what's it
(54:12):
gonna be like being a pro fever crowd because Caitlyn
Clark travels. Oh, I don't give two blanks about it,
not even one blank. No, I don't even give one blank, right,
Like she was really crazed before the game about Hey,
Caitlin Clark, I don't care about the fever crowd. Why
would you ask me about her place on the on
the on the USA Olympic team when clearly they could
have taken her because Team USA has taken the number
(54:34):
one pick in the draft the last five Olympics to
to get her a little bit of exposure as one
of the next players that's going to carry the league.
They've done that, but they didn't take Caitlyn Clark. Here
after the pregame yesterday and seeing shaw Reves comments, I
know she can't stand Caitlyn Clark can't stand the attention
that she's getting. Is never gonna pick her for the
Olympic team. She tried to walk it back a little
(54:55):
bit after the game was over, after the Fever one
and she said, Hey, we understand that Caitlyn's popular, and
that's why she's bringing these crowds here, but it doesn't matter.
You can tell here's the coach a team USA who
is basically saying, I don't like the Caitlyn Clark effect.
I don't like what she's bringing, and you can tell
she doesn't like her. You could tell you there's no
way she's gonna pick her for the Olympic team, and
(55:15):
she could have just if you don't like it, that's fine.
But the out and out hatred that I have seen
people say about Caitlin Clark, and this is a coach
that's got no bearing on any It's not like she
and Caitlyn Clark have gotten a feud. It's not like
Kaitlyn Clark has gone on bad mouthing her. All she's
ever said about the Olympics is point. It's a great honor.
I hope one day to get there. But the hatred
(55:37):
and the jealousy that has come out, now, you know,
that's the number one thing. It's about the old guard
and the players and the coaches who have been in
the league for a while. Oh, all of a sudden,
now these players are gonna save the league. We've been
here for a long time. I understand that, but these
are transcendent stars. Coming into the game except them. So
that's really now you know what it's all about. The
race stuff, the sex stuff, that all takes a back
(55:59):
seat to the It's because now you can tell with
what happened with Katelyn Clark and Angel reached this weekend,
that's what this is all about.
Speaker 3 (56:04):
Yeah, I mean you go to Angel rees, I mean
opportunities to get to her her ten point threshold. She
missed a wide open layup in the game against the
Dream and then you know, was calling for the ball,
ended up getting fall and got her shot. And then
back to back games against the Liberty and they just said,
all right, we're done with this because again it's about narratives, right,
(56:27):
It's you know, it becomes the talking points for everybody.
You got a hero, you got a villain. What do
we always talk about the you know, you need those
in that battle. But Katelyn Clark, they said, the combined
attendance home and road for the the Fever is already
over four hundred thousand, which is a w NBA record
as we get to the break, but you know, that's
(56:48):
the first meeting with Minnesota, so the first time Caitlyn
Clark's been able to go and show Coach Reeve, hey,
this is what I can do. The I could have
brought this to your squad. You had a pro Indiana
crowd there quite obviously a little bit of mean mugging
at the end and fist pumps, so you know, one
of those you'll you'll get it back in the process.
(57:09):
But overall, look, my analogy to all of it has
been I can say, hey, seven o'clock, a party starts.
I can't get mad when people show up at seven thirty.
I can be anxious and for that half hour, I
can grumble, I can fidget with whatever I've had catered.
Speaker 1 (57:25):
Or whatever I've cooked, or whatever's going on there.
Speaker 3 (57:28):
But once people get there, and I'm gonna be like, no,
screw you, you didn't show up at seven o'clock, get
out of here.
Speaker 1 (57:33):
Beat it. Who needs you. No, I'm not going Sandler.
I'm opening the door saying, hopefully you brought me a
bottle of wine or something. Let's get it on. Come on.
Speaker 3 (57:44):
So that's what you'd love to see for the rest
of the WNBA, you know. But as the promo says,
pettiness knows no tax bracket. And then we'll add the
caveat or age.
Speaker 1 (57:56):
But I see I could just see you at the
door though, someone's showing up at seven thirty, you saying
I said seven, not seven point thirty, and you slamming
the door in their face. Well you do know me
pretty well.
Speaker 3 (58:06):
There's public consumption Harmon and then ah, there's did grumpy
old troll under the bridge
Speaker 1 (58:14):
Exit out about a Fresca exit swollen dome Jason Smith
Mike Harmon in for Cavino and Rich
