All right, you know what, that's a standing ovation for
me to baseball. That's is on the home run Derby
standing ovation. Congratulations, Major League Baseball, you made Monday nights worthwhile.
We are broadcasting live for the tirek dot com studios

(00:40):
ten thousand recommended installers. Tyreck dot com the way tire
buying should be. It wasn't all great last night in Arlington,
but that's what made it so unique. Plus, the All
Star Game is tonight. He's Aaron Torres Mantis here, Ryan's here,
and Ryan's here. Let's get this thing rolling here on
Cavino and Rich our music stopped. Let that baby play there.

(01:00):
It is hitting the post, all right. I loved it
last night. I even tweeted this Aaron Torres that I
like to crap on a lot of stuff. This wasn't
good enough, This wasn't like it was twenty years ago.
Bring me back the NFL of the nineteen eighties, all
of that. Last night, sat back, enjoyed, just enjoyed the show.

(01:25):
Now it may be more about me, but I had
low expectations for the home run derby, and it fulfilled
all of those expectations, sprinkled in with the national anthem
that has everybody talking today for good and bad reasons,
and so much more successful start to the All Star
break from Major League Baseball.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
First of all, I saw your tweet. I don't think
you really crap on that much. I mean, you know, yeah,
you wish this. The Seahawks still had those Dave Craig
mid eighties jerseys in helping.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
He's the reason I'm a Seahawks fan. That's the reason.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
But other than that, I feel like you're a pretty upbeat,
positive guy. I always enjoy filling in with you, with
Comino and Rich Gottlieb wherever we're working together. I you know, look,
I don't I'm not as bothered by like the home
run derby in years past as most like I just
kind of take it for what it is. It's an event,

(02:19):
it fills time, it's something to do, it's an introduction
to some of these young guys that people may not
be as familiar with. But I will say the pace
of last night felt better. You know, I don't know, yep,
So go ahead. I was gonna say the enthusiasm. I
don't know that it was totally there in the ballpark
and the way the ballpark is set up, but I
felt like the pace. I felt like this is a

(02:41):
made for TV product, and I thought, outside of maybe
pre home run Derby, most of it was very imminently watchable.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
By the way his intern Dean Maine his national radio debut, Dean,
have you been on the air at Fox Sports Radio?
That's gonna change in thirty seconds because our intern Dean
did some research on what happened last night during the
home run derby. Dean is a student at the University

(03:10):
of Colorado at Boulder. Dean, do you have the numbers
in front of you for the number of home runs
that were hit last night compared to what they were
in the home run derby in twenty twenty three? Do
you have those in front of you? I got on
the top of my head. Look, listen to this guy
first time on the air, no notes. All right, how
many home runs in twenty twenty three?

Speaker 3 (03:32):
So last year totaled up, the number was three forty one,
and then looking at this year, I just told it up.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
It was two twenty five. One hundred and sixteen fewer
home runs were hit last night in the home run
Derby than there were a year ago, and it was
one hundred and sixteen times better than last year's home
run Derby. Like there is less is more, by the way,
great job to Dean on his national radio debut, no notes.

(04:00):
I would say he winned it, but he knew his stuff.
He knew his stuff to have forty pitches, to have
a shorter time length, to have a round of eight
and then a bracket afterwards, worked swimmingly. It was great.
It had pace. You weren't sitting there bored because someone's
at thirty two home runs and thirty three knowing that

(04:22):
the next person's probably not gonna be able to catch him,
and if he does, you're gonna have to stick around
forty five minutes longer. There was great pace last night,
and then you had drama you had Alec Bohm and
Tiascar Hernandez going into a swing off basically because they
tied in their semi final match, and then Bobby Witck
Junior trying to win it all. I thought it was
a magnificent night for Major League Baseball, even if the

(04:46):
national anthem was and even if that stadium stinks, it's
the worst stadium Hall of Baseball. Still overall, a great,
great night for the MLB.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
But I thought especially as well, because you know, you
don't have the super marquee names that I think every
baseball fan, even the casual baseball fans would know. You know,
the sho Heeo Tani's obviously, you know, Mike Trout is.

Speaker 1 (05:08):
No Judge, Aaron Judge is not in it. Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
And so to introduce some of these players, and I
don't know if it's a total totally fair.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
You know, Pete A.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
Lonzo's obviously really well known, uh, you know, Dolas Garcia
coming off of that World Series a year ago. But
the point I'm trying to make is it wasn't the
most high profile players. The the pace of everything moved
really well, and again it was just it really was
compelling TV. So I don't know what else to really

(05:35):
add in. And I'll say this too, Dan, is that
sometimes and even when because I said a minute ago,
I wasn't as anti home run derby or that it
needs to be tweaked. And I do think that sometimes
in this world that we live in, for some reason,
it feels like we always have to tweak everything.

Speaker 1 (05:53):
Right.

Speaker 2 (05:53):
We have, you know, expanding the college football playoff? Are
we gonna expand the NCAA tournament? We expand the regular
season in the NFL. And some of it is justified,
and some of it feels like expansion or tweaking for
the sake of expansion or tweaking. And so I bring
it up because when I first heard that the home
run derby was going to be you know, there's new

(06:14):
rules and everything was adjusted whatever, I just sat there
and said, like, like, do we really is this an
event that we really need to tweak? Is this the
one that we need to go back into the lab
and completely shake everything up? Thinking that it was kind
of good enough the way that it was, And so
the fact that the changes did make it an imminently
more watchable product, but at the same time kept it

(06:36):
at you know, it was it was probably more watchable
as entertaining.

Speaker 1 (06:39):
Go ahead, I no, no, I want you to finish
your point, because I'm gonna just the point that I
made two weeks ago is that we don't care how
many home runs you see. The biggest wow factor is
how far they go sure or is their drama, And
that that's what happened last night. To intern Dean's numbers
one hundred and sixteen. Few were home runs were hit

(07:01):
last night and than they were a year ago. I
don't remember anything from last year's home run Derby except
when I looked it up on Wikipedia, and remember that
vlad Guerrero Junior won it last year. I don't remember
one thing from from last year. A year from now,
I'm not sure how much I'm gonna remember. I'm probably
gonna remember the Nation Lanthem, but but I also think

(07:22):
that I will remember that there was some drama Bobby
Wood Junior, even at the end and not catching Hernandez.
There was just a lot of good with it. And
the less is more, I think is so key because
to your point of we try to squeak everything, and
here Major League Baseball is like, all right, we gotta
trim this bad boy down a little bit. We gotta
we gotta figure out a way to maybe make this

(07:43):
more viewer friendly, make this more fan friendly. And it
worked out last night. I mean, I mean, it really
really did. It had people talking. It helps that there's
nothing else going on, like I mean, because there's no
baseball going on aside from Brownie James and Summer League,
which was later on in the night. That was pretty
um like, that's the only thing that's happening. So you're
the only show in town. And it had people talking

(08:05):
in a in a good way. There are some bad
things from it. Okay, if you missed it National Anthem,
here's your little taste.

Speaker 4 (08:14):
Oh say, can you see by the dawns, what's so brownly?

Speaker 1 (08:30):
By the triolight?

Speaker 4 (08:33):
Last clean.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
This is where you know it's kind of starting to
go off.

Speaker 5 (08:39):
Great through the pairs, fine, oh the rest, but we
watch we're so.

Speaker 1 (08:55):
And we know there's more to the story. But the
more of the story is this, by the way, the
wickedly talented Ingrid and Dress. That's my John Travolta joke.
That only bursting her laughs at that's I just the
wickedly talented Ingrid and Dress. Last night revealed today that

(09:17):
she is going to check herself into rehab because she
had a little too much to drink last night, which
led her to the national anthem. So there's the national anthem.
Don't drink before the national anthem. I hope she gets
all of the help that she needs. But this was
also a talking point last night. Does it end at
this point because she's going to go to rehab and

(09:37):
admits that she has a problem. I there's a lot
of different angles. Even behind the scenes here, people are wondering,
is it a publicity stunt. I don't know that's fair
or unfair to the question. But listen, We've known performers
who are like, all right, I have a big, big show.
Maybe I need a little liquid courage to be able
to do what I did. She maybe had a little

(09:59):
too much liquid courage. And now to this point, do
we just put it aside? Well, do you want me
to make a very dark analogy. Let's do it. Let's
hear it.

Speaker 2 (10:06):
I'm sorry, I'm sorry, Covino, I'm sorry. Rich I know
you like to keep things super upbeat. So yesterday was Monday.
We were filling in you and I were filling in
for Doug gottlieb Uh we filled in obviously following a
very serious event on Saturday that could have become like

(10:27):
a national tragedy in front of all of us to unfold.
And so you asked me, is this one of those
moments where we'll remember where we are forever? This being
the Saturday event, Well, we remember where we are forever,
like is it, you know, one of those you'll always
remember where you were when it happened? And my only
hesitation was because, thankfully, you know, former President Trump survived.

(10:53):
I think we'll all remember, but it won't be at
the forefront of our minds the way you reference the
Challenger nine to eleven, very very very serious things. So
I bring it up because if she just kind of
went this, this is now the singer I'm back to
last night.

Speaker 1 (11:07):
If she's wickedly talented in Grandad, does yes.

Speaker 2 (11:10):
If she had just gone on, if she had just
moved on as if nothing had happened, I kind of
think this would have followed her for the rest.

Speaker 1 (11:17):
Of her career.

Speaker 2 (11:19):
And so now because she has entered rehabits, that that
that that's that that uh, what's the right word, that
gray area, if you will, of can we criticize was
that the only reason, thank goodness, she's getting help if
she really needs it.

Speaker 1 (11:35):
So that was my dark analogy.

Speaker 2 (11:36):
But I think because she's going to rehab, we kind
of got to lay off and say, probably wasn't her
finest moment. Hopefully it's not a major problem. Hopefully she
gets over it. Uh, but she was clearly not a
position to uh sing the stars of stripe.

Speaker 1 (11:49):
Yeah, you know, I just I don't think that there's
it was a bad national anthem. She'll be remembered for that.
Hopefully she gets the help she needs, but it doesn't
make the anthem any better than it was bad. No,
it's not good. I mean, yeah, it was a rough one.

Speaker 2 (12:03):
No, And it's like, you know, it's still gonna go up,
go down with the Roseanne bar national anthem, the fifty
cent first pitch, but there's gonna be that little asterisk
next to it, if you will.

Speaker 1 (12:15):
Here's the thing that amazes me is there people who
are who go in there and don't know the words.
She got all the words right. Yeah, it was like
she messed up the words. There are people who can't
remember the words. At least she got those correct. So
a kudos to her for that one.

Speaker 2 (12:29):
Well, I'll be honest, I didn't hear it until later,
and she was certainly off key.

Speaker 1 (12:36):
There were ten thousand Trump bleeding ear memes on Twitter
within sixty seconds, so that's long. Sure, Yeah, that's all.
It was my ears right now. You could you could
search my ears rn on Twitter and you will get
fourteen thousand results and they will all be from July
fifteenth at around eight o'clock Eastern time. That's what they

(12:57):
will get because it was just it was constant. It
was the same joke over and over and over. So
to that point of.

Speaker 2 (13:06):
Here's the thing though, whether it's a first pitch, whether
it's a national anthem, when you don't see it in
real time and you hear how bad it is, you're
never sure of what to totally expect. And so I
just bring that up because when I did hear it,
I was like, oh, she's definitely off key and she
certainly slurred, and I do think if I had heard
it live, I would say something is totally not right,

(13:27):
especially for a professional singer. This is in a you
know again, Roseanne Barr is an example. So the point
I'm trying to make is that. No, I would have
given it an A or an A plus or B
minus or B plus. But to your point, she did get.

Speaker 1 (13:40):
All the words. I would also say, because what was
highlighted on social media was the ending, which was much
worse than the beginning of what we played. Like, I'm
not saying that I loved it, but I'm just saying
that the ending was much worse. Ryan Berschinger, our executive producer,
have we eradicated the cockroach or whatever's going on around there?
We go, it's it's gone into hiding. Okay, all right,

(14:03):
so but did you want in or did you want
to give us a cockroach update? Twenty years ago? This
place is a.

Speaker 6 (14:09):
Denny's, so like these things still we do have the
last fifteen seconds of okay.

Speaker 1 (14:15):
So this is the the the not so good. This
is the not so good part.

Speaker 7 (14:25):
Yeah, like yeah, okay, all I hate that would be
a one uh pop bear production?

Speaker 1 (14:44):
Oh boy? Uh yeah? That was that was? That was
That was. That was a little rough one last night,
certainly an eventful home and again in a stadium that stinks,
like I know it's new, it is so fake, it
is so dark. There is nothing new about that stadium.
There's nothing unique about that stadium. The only thing new
about it is that it's newer, that it's been around

(15:06):
for a few years. It is the stadium where you
would it's like the generic stadium in a video game.
And we're gonna be talking video games later on again
college football story. But it to me is just so
blow and boring and dark. It feels like sixty five
percent of the lights are on in that place and
the other thirty five percent are not on. It is
just I just I cannot stand that ballpark.

Speaker 2 (15:29):
So I know there's a lot of other takeawys from
last night, but I will say that point is interesting
because I remember last year. You know, I don't watch
a ton of regular season baseball, but you know, the
new park open Ballpark at Arlington closes, and you know,
just because of what we do. I have a lot
of friends in the media. I'm a Rangers fait can't
wait to check out the new park. And I remember
watching the World Series and I was like, what's the

(15:50):
like factor to it? You know, it's like the Marlins
Park has the weird thing in center field, the Astros
Park has the hill in center field. You know, Green Monster,
Ivy you go on and on and on every single place,
as Campden Yards has the warehouse, and I was like,
this is a new stadium.

Speaker 1 (16:08):
You had time. This wasn't built in nineteen twelve or
you know, nineteen forty eight, like Angel.

Speaker 2 (16:15):
Even Angel Stadium has the you know they used to
have the thing in the background, Yes, the fountains at
Kaufman Field. And so I remember thinking that during the
World Series, and it kind of popped into my head
last night as I was watching the World Series. But
for a new ballpark, give me something. I mean, I
don't know what it was.

Speaker 1 (16:30):
I know one hundred percent you are one hundred percent correct.
They made the Astros take out the hill in the
flag bowl in center field. Again, if you hit a
ball four thirty, you should make the center field or
try to avoid a flag bull to catch it, like truly,
like that is like, kudos to you, Dead Center. Make
it a little bit more difficult. I know people thought
it was hokey, whatever. I loved it. It's better than

(16:50):
this generic thing that we get to see. And again,
not only is it generic, it is in an area
if you've never been, which is right next to where
AT and T Stadium is in Arlington, which, by the way,
you know what's right across the street from AT and
T Stadium, Like, literally right across the street a Walmart.
Like it is so Genericville, and there's a six Flags

(17:14):
that's nearby there. It's everything that is just not natural. Look,
I live three minutes from the six Flags. Nothing against
six Flags, but it's just everything that is just so
generic and commercial. And that's what I feel like that
stadium is. In the uniforms they're wearing now for the
game tonight, make them look like they work at a
general store in eighteen seventy. It's just like and hopefully

(17:35):
they're gonna do away with it. Rob Manfred said, see,
this is me crapping on everything. When I said I
usually crap on everything, this is what happens. I love
the home run Derby, but there was enough to tick
me off last night. Baseball uniforms for the All Star
Games hopefully will be changing next year back to they'll
just wear their own. But man, yeah, you get me now,
I'm worked up.

Speaker 2 (17:54):
There's a difference between crapping on everything and speaking facts.
I think you're doing much more the latter.

Speaker 1 (18:00):
In the former On the Gosh, Manzi burst any do
you want anything in an All Star game? Something? Did you?
Did you enjoy it? Last night?

Speaker 8 (18:08):
I had a great time from beginning to end, including
her singing. I may have jokingly said that, you know,
that's me seven shots in on a Tuesday.

Speaker 9 (18:18):
I didn't know that you were going to you know
what I mean? Yes, you know what I mean. I
may have jokingly said that without knowing.

Speaker 8 (18:24):
But I kind of agree with like Aaron a little
bit on, like, you know, is this what she had
to do in order to save her career? Is this
what she had to say? But more importantly, if you
are that inebriated, somebody's gonna notice, Like, how did nobody
stop her? How did everyone just say all right, girl,
continue on stumbling your way to sing.

Speaker 2 (18:47):
It's like when Shakira performs at halftime of COPA. It's
not like she's sitting in a room by herself, like
free to do whatever she wants. There's people around her.
So I wonder, so, who's really to blame for this?
There's some sort of handler that either let her get
completely off the rails.

Speaker 3 (19:02):
Or a friend.

Speaker 8 (19:03):
You know, she wasn't alone, right, like, not even a
friend that was with Like I just feel like this
really could It would have been really awful, right if
there was nobody to sing the national anthem.

Speaker 9 (19:13):
But I'm sure somebody would have volunteered last minute.

Speaker 1 (19:15):
Sure, yes, exactly. So it's just kind of like YouTube
national anthem, Just play it, just play it.

Speaker 8 (19:21):
Yeah, But I feel like a lot of people drop
the ball and letting her.

Speaker 1 (19:26):
That's true, move forward, That's that's fair. I think that
that's a that's a good point. But to your on
one hand, I'm like it was just a home runer.
It wasn't like it was the All Star Game tonight,
which is going to be on Tonight's like the real
like when the Real Show. But still a big deal
if you're an artist to be able to sing that.
So I get it. I just yeah, I don't know

(19:47):
how anybody says, you know what, she can't she can't
do this, like you're about to lose. And truly it
is the biggest way to make her name, whether you
like it or not. Like we I know Ingrid and
Dress now because of this, Yes, the wickedly talented Ingrid
and Dress. If Travalta said that it was closer to

(20:09):
a Dell de Zime like, right, they're in the same ballpark.
I mean, that's just. But the point is, I'm sorry,
I just it's my wife heard me say it like
twenty times last night. Just I'd go around the living
room the wickedly talented ingrid and dress. But now we
know her name, and so in the long run, again,
to not make fun of what she's going through, this

(20:31):
probably will be a good thing for her than anything else.

Speaker 2 (20:36):
She either legitimately has a problem, which that's serious and whatever,
or the counter to that is if she doesn't. To
Mansi's point, she kind of had to say something she
couldn't just you know.

Speaker 1 (20:47):
Yeah, all right, Scivino and Rich here on Fox Sports
Radio a lot from the Tirec dot Com studios. He's
erin torrez'm dan byer Manzi Blanios this year, so as

Look at them, look at them afraid of cockroaches, right,
Ryan McMain here on Fox Sports Radio coming up next.

(21:09):
Bursch is not happy with some of his Dodger teammates,
and some of those in the NBA are not happy
with the Celtics. Jalen Brown for what he said last night?
Something he said that did he know one? Yeah? Did
he really say it that no one heard? We're going
to dive into all of that. He's Aaron. I'm Dan

(23:05):
I'm not a Dodger fan. You're not a Dodger fan.
Monty is a Dodger fan. Ryan mcvain is a Dodger fan,
and so is Ryan Berschinger and Tiasco Hernandez is the
winner of the Home Run Derby and last night you
probably saw it because the tweet went viral with two
retweets and four likes. I said, only one player in
Major League Baseball history has won the home run Derby

(23:27):
and then had his team go on to win home
Run Derby outright have his team go on to win
the World Series later that year, Luis Gonzales in two
thousand and one with the Diamondbacks and then obviously his
bigger hit in Game seven of the World Series to
win it that year over the New York Yankees. So
the Dodgers don't necessarily have history on their side, but
noted Dodger fan and host of the Sick podcast talking

(23:51):
about the Dodgers, one third of it is Ryan Bershinger,
another third of it is Monty Belangos, and Bo Benson
is the other third, but two thirds of it. Noticed
last night that maybe ti Oscar Hernandez wasn't getting the
love from his teammates that he should have burst. You
weren't happy with the Dodgers not sticking around supporting their guy.

Speaker 6 (24:08):
Yeah, if you noticed watching the broadcast at the beginning
showy Otani's there Will Smith, Freddie Freeman, and Tyler Glass
now all of them during Taoscar's first round during his
time out, and after the round they're they're huddling around him,
supporting him being there with them all through it, and
then halfway through the derby, when Taoskar's still in contention,

(24:29):
suddenly Tyler glass Now is the only other person there
with the Dodger uniform. Otani left, Freddie Freeman left, Will
Smith left. I'm still trying to find if there's any
sort of explanation. We know that Will Smith has an infant,
and Freddie had his kids there as well. Otani notably
doesn't have children, so I don't know. I don't know
what's going on, but quite frankly, yeah, I do think

(24:50):
it's a bad look because Tyler glass Now was there
with him through the entire night, being very vocally supportive.
Even when Teoscar won, he celebrated with Tyler and he
and we did it as if Tyler did it. Arthing there,
which is awesome to Oscar very clearly like he really
wanted to do the home run derby. He made a
point going into it that this was something he was
very excited about. And Will Ireton, who was Otani's new interpreter,

(25:13):
he was there the entire time.

Speaker 1 (25:14):
Yeah, he was.

Speaker 6 (25:16):
Joey was not so Yeah, I think it was pretty unfortunate.
I was bummed out to see that all of his
teammates except for Tyler were not there to celebrate the
win with him.

Speaker 1 (25:27):
Monster. Are you sad with that? You on Bursa's side,
I don't know. I think it's just I think it's
a bad look.

Speaker 9 (25:37):
It's a very bad look.

Speaker 8 (25:38):
Unfortunately, Bo Benson, our other third, did say that he
read that he read that Chelsea Freeman maybe had mentioned
that their kids were sick. That's Freddy Freeman's wife. But
it is a really bad look. And I was telling
Ryan it just sucked extra because they all.

Speaker 9 (25:57):
Scott really looked like he wanted to be there and win.
You know, he didn't look like he was just there
like when Mookie Bets did it. Everybody was like, why
are you doing it?

Speaker 8 (26:05):
And hesa Well, my wife told me you should do
everything you can, you know, check it off the list.
Del Scott wasn't there to check it off a list.
It looked like he wanted to be there to win.

Speaker 1 (26:14):
Are you just flexing by saying his first name instead
of his last name. Yeah, it's very very strong flex
there you go, or as you on Bursh and Monty's side,
bad look my side? Do you care?

Speaker 2 (26:25):
Ask you a question? And I say, this is someone
who I know that your small child just got sick.
But isn't that like the universal excuse, Ah my baby's
not really feeling that well, we got to get out
of here a little bit.

Speaker 1 (26:34):
Or yes, yeah, that's what I failed. That's what I feel.

Speaker 2 (26:37):
So I'm calling Freddy Freeman's wife a liar. I guess
the national radio is what I'm saying. No, I mean,
it's just that sounds like the most made up excuse.
Oh no, I'm washing my hair. I would love to
go on a date with you. But I'm watching that
that actually never happened to me. But it's the same thing.
It's like, ah, my kids, you know, he's got a
little tickle.

Speaker 1 (26:52):
On his throat. We should get him out of here.
It's like they are All Star parties. Sunday night, they're
All Star parties. Monday night, they are All Star parties.
On Tuesday night. It happens during the All Star break
there's parties, parties, parties. That's where guys usually leave. I'm
not saying that's where Freddy Freeman went maybe he went home,
but a majority of the guy's leaf because of the party. Heck,
they would leave early on Tuesday to go party or
to get a you know, head start on their other

(27:14):
vacation that they were going on. Which is why one
of the reasons when you had the tie twenty plus
years ago in Milwaukee, half the players had left already
and you could even reinsert guys because they weren't. It
wasn't allowed, but guys like, oh, I'm out of the game,
see you later, and then you just ran out of players.

Speaker 2 (27:31):
So wasn't there a year that a Rod like left
the All Star Game with Madonna or something and like
the sixth inning and it became a thing. I feel
like I'm trying to google it.

Speaker 1 (27:39):
I am not sure. I do remember seeing a and
that I covered I think three All Star games in
my career, and I remember seeing his ex wife. They
were married at the time. So it wasn't two thousand
and seven in San Francisco. I can guarantee you that
you know what this reminds me of, though, this reminds
me of college friends meet high school friends. So Tiascar

(28:02):
Hernandez and Vlad Guerrero Junior. Obviously you have a relationship
and that's probably high school friends, and the Dodgers aren't
college friends, and it's weird when they mix. If you ever, ever, ever,
ever had that. Of course in every bachelor party ever
or bachelrette party. Yeah, you think, because it's your world

(28:24):
that it would work out, but it's just two separate things.
And here it really feels like Tiascar's high school friends
were there for him and the college friends dipped the
newer friends. The newer friends that you had, except Glass
now sticked around, stuck around, and guess what, now they
can be friends for the next two decades and that

(28:46):
can be as one college friend that he keeps in
touch with.

Speaker 2 (28:49):
Probably doesn't help the team struggle in a bit, huh.
Like if they were, you know, if they had the
best record in baseball, I feel like it looked a
little different. I know they're playing, you know, and well,
but not up to potential. I think that's fair to say, right.
I know there's injuries. I feel like that's part of
it too. It's like, you know, if they were whatever,
I'm trying to see how many games, you know, Phillies

(29:10):
are sixty two and thirty four. If if the Dodgers
were sixty five and thirty one, everyone like, ah, whatever,
but they're struggling.

Speaker 1 (29:17):
People are bailing. Yeah, it's here's here's the thought process.
Then we'll get to MANSI with the update where I
just find it difficult if you're and I'm just just
trying to think of Gunner Henderson didn't advance. I know
he's one of the later hitters. But if you're an
Oriole and he gets eliminated, you're like, cool, I'm out.

(29:38):
You know how hard it is to like leave a wedding,
you know, like you're talking, you bring up that point
of just like, okay, when do I leave? Like are
they going to play the song that me and my
buddy loved in college? And then I'm not here to
like dance at that song? How do I figure this out?
If you're the Dodgers and you're the Dodger players, sorry,
you got to err on the side of caution. You
got to stick around. If you're an Oriole and once

(29:59):
Henders eliminated, bye bye. You know, I'm out of here.
I'm gone. You get to leave, you get to bounce.
Not necessarily the case if your guy is still in it,
and that's the tough part of them, being like Taskar
is still in it, but I'm still gonna leave anyway. Yeah,
bad look for a team that's lost six of seven

(30:20):
in reeling going into the second round the second half
of this Major League Baseball season. All right, he's aeron Torres.
I'm Dan Byer, fascinating in for Covino and Rich.

Speaker 3 (30:29):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports Radio

Speaker 1 (30:41):
Torres was half right, We'll get to, uh how that happens.
It's Cavino and Rich here at Fox Sports Radio. He
is erin Torres. I'm Dan Byer in for Covino and Rich.
Monty Milanios is at the news desk, and we doubled
up on Ryan's Today Burschinger, our executive producer, McMain, Papa Bear,
our technical producer, and inurned Dean Today. If I missed it,

(31:02):
Rod dogging some numbers from the beginning of the home
run derby first segment, no notes, and he gave us
the numbers of home runs hit last night compared to
the home number of home runs hitting twenty twenty three
in the home run Derby one hundred and sixteen fewer
home runs hit last night, and again, last night's home
run Derby one hundred and sixteen times better than it

(31:23):
was a year ago. So that's that's where we are
with the home run Derby and everything that's happened with
Major League Baseball. It wasn't the only big thing to
happen last night, though. Aaron Torres as Jalen Brown was
taking in some summer league action and he was with
his was his girlfriend in Angel Reese? Is that who
I believe?

Speaker 8 (31:43):
So?

Speaker 2 (31:44):
Okay, I was gonna say, Angel Reese has never been
more irrelevant in a story than this one. She's usually
the center of attention on and that's not like a knock,
that's just a reality, Like she's just an innocent bystander
in this in this situation.

Speaker 1 (31:56):
Yes, And so some drama unfolded, and the drama was
Jalen Brown was caught talking about Bronnie James, and the
lip reading that went on was actually exact. It is
what Jalen Brown was saying, so much so that his
I guess criticism of Bronnie ended up, forcing him to

(32:17):
make an apology at some point last night or this morning.

Speaker 2 (32:21):
So yeah, first of all, it's worth noting Jalen Brown's
pin tweet from January thirty first, twenty twenty two. The
energy is about to shift. Well, it shifted last night,
Dan Buyer, let me tell you it sure did. Yeah,
he it was what about probably about eleven o'clock Eastern time,
Lakers are playing Summer League, and he's caught on camera,
and you know, nobody knows here.

Speaker 1 (32:43):
This is where it gets interesting.

Speaker 2 (32:44):
Nobody knows for sure exactly what he said, but some
pretty good Internet sluice came to the conclusion pretty quick that,
as you said, he said, I don't think Bronnie's a pro.

Speaker 1 (32:57):
You know, kind of shrug, shrugs his shoulders.

Speaker 2 (33:00):
So about what about two about three am Eastern time
or three am Pacific, six am Eastern, So he was
probably off his phone out there in Vegas for a
little while, pulls up his phone, His mentions are through
the roof, and he put out a tweet again about
three am Pacific in Vegas, where he said, quote, it's
a flex to have your son alongside you in the NBA.

(33:22):
It reflects greatness and longevity. Bronni has all the tools
around him to be successful. I look forward to watching
his growth. So jan Brown essentially acknowledged I was caught
on camera saying Bronnie ain't a pro.

Speaker 1 (33:37):
That is crazy that he admitted. And his girlfriend said
he'll probably be in the G League though, and then
bron said something of the sort of nah, lebron will
have him up on the Lakers. So that was even
the follow up to it, like there was By the way,
there's a trend on TikTok where people are reading lips
and they truly I've seen this. Has this been an
anyone's algorithm of deaf people lip reading stuff? So we

(34:01):
could see Manta, you can back me up on this.
I'm not crazy, right.

Speaker 9 (34:04):
Yes, I have seen this. I've seen that and it's
pretty incredible. Yes, like I have no talent in that department.

Speaker 1 (34:09):
No, And those bad lip reading like segments he would
do in the NFL were amazing. I don't know if
they still do them, but they're they're great. But yeah,
so much so that Jalen Brown. Nobody even heard him
say it. They just saw him say it, and he's
had to apologize for it. To us to your point,
don't apologize. Yeah, it's an opinion that many people have.
Plus it makes the Lakers Celtics even more interesting. Well,

(34:32):
they would actually play right by the way. A couple things.

Speaker 2 (34:35):
One, first of all, just don't apologize. But two, uh, well,
a few things. One, this is after a week of
Jalen Brown going after Nike publicly because he believes Nike
held them off the Olympic team. Well, who has a
lifetime deal with Nike lebron So that's shot number one.
But two couple things. One I just wouldn't acknowledge it.

(34:57):
I didn't say that. Or Two, here's the other thing.
If I was unavailable to host this show today and
Jalen Brown was guest hosting, like so many current and
former athletes do, guess what you gotta do. You have
to have if you want to make it in the business.
You gotta have real opinions on stuff. We talked about
Nick Saban picking against Alabama in the SEC yesterday. I mean,

(35:21):
is he gonna come on this show and say that
Bronni's awesome. No, he would have said the exact same
thing he said, Pray he's probably not a pro. We'll
see what happens blah blah blah blah blah. So you're
apologizing for an opinion that's pretty common sense that if
you were actually working in the media you would have
said anyway. I think it's it's a completely unnecessary apology.

Speaker 1 (35:38):
How many times do you think that someone has said
that to Bronni in the Summer League games so far? Yeah,
great call. I would have to think that there at
least a time or two someone has said, yeah, you
don't belong in this airball that he had from the corner.
The Celtics guy was about to challenge it, and then
he just kind of gave up, you know, like and
he didn't even need to challenge it. And then the

(35:58):
great highlight of the buck It was a mid range jumper,
which I just don't know how many six to one
guards are going to be settling for the mid range
Falloway jumpers in the NBA. Uh, just two points last
night and then game against the Celtics. Oh he hasn't
made a three point a y not Yeah, not good
at all. Maybe good analysis by Jaylen Brown. And you
know what, Aeron Torres, while he was half right friends
crossed over with Matt about you Yes, I was mocked

(36:22):
by you. Every buddy Isaac Allen tweeting in saying that
that's where the Friends crossover came from. Not Seinfeld. I
knew it. I knew I saw Rachel Green somewhere else,
or Phoebe or something like that. Will we see Brandon
Aiyuk somewhere else? And if you could lead a college
football program to destiny, where would you go? That's next
