Covino and Rich out this afternoon. Aaron Torres VJ Husky
are in.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
Yes. By the way, where was the Seth Rogan sound?

Speaker 1 (00:34):
That's one of my favorite pieces of sound that we
have in this building, where he's like, yeah, I don't
know anything about him, but they seem very confident in
what they're doing. So anyway that I've never heard that, Yeah,
it's it's funny. I've never heard that draw, but they
But Covino and Rich are out.

Speaker 2 (00:51):

VJ.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
Husky again filling in for the guys, So VJ Yzer.
We listen, We're seventy two hours away or so from
the start of the NFL season. So excited, man, we
got We'll spend the rest of the hour talking NFL.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
I want all your predictions, your previews or this or that.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
Yeah, I'll throw out some predictions as well, but we
should go back. We should start with what was essentially
the last game of Week one of the college football season.
We do have Florida State Boston College kicking off at
seven thirty Eastern time, about two and a half hours
from now. But we had a thriller last night in
Las Vegas, Iowa.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
Sam, Do we have the sound of the war? No?

Speaker 1 (01:53):
No, it wasn't a walkoff, but it was LSU USC
top twenty five matchup, you know. And I'll say this
VJ two. We'll get to the sound half a second.
I apologize for t and up on that Iowa, Sam,
But what was crazy about that game is that, you know,
I'll tell you what. Let's let's play the sound of
USC taking the lead spoiler alert with under ten seconds ago.

Speaker 3 (02:16):
Thirteen seconds left in the game, Moss with the snap,
hands off the marks on that.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
Touchdown. They're going wild.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
In half of this stadium as the Trojes are gonna
pull off the upset.

Speaker 4 (02:33):
How do you do?

Speaker 2 (02:35):
USC wins twenty seven to twenty VJ.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
I'll say this, What I think is so interesting about
this game is you could feel attention. We'll get to
the Brian Kelly sound in a minute, but I think
we all had this notion, Oh, it's the twelve team playoff.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
Everybody gets in.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
It's it's a participation trophy, and it's like, no, yeah, exactly.
That's exactly what I was gonna say, is you could
field attention in the air. And this was the game,
I think, as much as any this weekend where you
could feel there was a lot at stake for both teams.
Because in this twelve team playoff era, we know that
conference champions get in. So even though it Clemson loses
to Georgia, it's not the end of their season. But

(03:13):
those are two teams SEC USC now in the Big Ten,
and you felt like whoever lost that one was behind
the eight ball.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
You could feel the tension in the.

Speaker 5 (03:21):
Yeah, you can feel attention in the air, none of that.
It was just it was so talent like rich on
the field. That's what I loved about this game. You're
talking about the former top recruit type guys. Man, You're
you're talking about the best of the best, the cream
of the crop coming out of high school the last
year or two. Now, let's not forget both these programs
did just lose Heisman winning quarterbacks. Guess what, news flash,

(03:43):
they're pretty okay. The quarterback position on both these campuses,
the receiver position, the running back position. They had to
there's guys that have blown acls just last November. LSU's
got a running back that a blown ACL last November.
These guys out here trucking linebackers and defensive linemen from USC.
And then you got the two big, the big names
as far as the two coaches go. Right, you have

(04:04):
two guys that are their brands themselves without being part
of the school. And you got Riley coming from Oklahoma.
You got Kelly coming from Nordre Dame. And you go
to LSU and you go to USC, which is not
a step down to me. It was either lateral moves
or upper moves. I honestly think for sc is an
upper move from Oklahoma, but Norre Dame to LSU could

(04:25):
be seen as a lateral, slightly upper move. But just
a great football game. Both teams play well, only one turnover,
both teams over four hundred yards are total offense. Third
down one was three or nine, the other teams five
or twelve. So teams were efficient when they needed to be.
But both these quarterbacks just on point almost every throw,
hitting the receivers in the numbers, hitting receivers in the hands.

(04:47):
And dare I say, Kyrin Lacy, hello, young man. I
love that kid right there, man. And of course SE's
got a bunch of firepower too. But great game. But
you talk about the tension you can feel in that
building when SE's scored.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
You know, a camera pans did a fans.

Speaker 5 (05:02):
Of course, the look on the LSU fans face it
you would have thought this was the SEC championship game
and we weren't.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
And we hadn't even hit Labor Day yet.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
Well, I'll tell you what. I was going to start
glasses half phone and talk to USC. But since you
bring up LSU, the fans were frustrated. Know who else
was frustrated was Brian Kelly. Here is what he had
to say after the game.

Speaker 6 (05:20):
We're sitting here again. We're sitting here again talking about
the same things about not finishing when you have an
opponent in a position to put them away.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
But what we're doing.

Speaker 6 (05:35):
On the sideline is feeling like the game's over, and
I'm so angry about it that I got to do
something about it. I'm not doing a good enough job
as a coach, and I got to coach him better
because it's unacceptable for us not to have found a
way to win this football game.

Speaker 2 (05:53):
It's ridiculous.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
For those who didn't catch the game, LSU tied the
game with a field goal with under two minutes to go.
USC goes the length of the field and they were
aided by an LSU penalty which put USC on the
goal line allowed them to score that touchdown. So you know,
again we talked about the tension in the air. You
could tell this wasn't hey. We got plenty of time

(06:16):
to figure things out. Will be better next week. This
was Brian Kelly for a third straight year, losing a
season opener.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
You could feel the frustration.

Speaker 5 (06:23):
In Yeah, not only frustration. You mentioned the penalties too,
but you have to also remember that they're up most
of this game. LSU is winning this game. They lose
the fourth quarter of fourteen to three, so right there,
that's where he's talking about. One thing also too, I
loved about what Brian Kelly said here is that's called
accountability from a head coach. He said, we're not coaching
and I got to do something about it. And what

(06:45):
I believe is means somebody's getting either some pink slips
or trust me, there were some very uncomfortable conversations on
the campus of bat doan rouge today in the office
with no cell phones and no social media and no
video between certain coaches and the headman, Brian Kelly. Because
when I hear that type of accountability, he's talking about
himself too, but he's also talking about his coaches. He
didn't blame no kids cause I thought the kids did

(07:07):
what they needed to do. I thought the kids played well.
What I didn't like to also the two unsports one
like calls on LSU celebration. I thought we were chilling
on that in college football. Really, I thought we were
chilling on out of college football because if you remember
the one that Lacy call actually gave Branch a chance
to return that almost broke. So that penalty right there

(07:28):
kind of set USC up to kind of get good
field position, which they went and scored on. But I
thought we were chilling on this in college football and
letting the kids. I'm still seeing reps running to the
middle of guys. Dude, I'd be kicked out of school
because I throw the man. Man, get out the way
and let me do my dance. I make five hundred
God grant in il I make more than you. Let
me do my dance real quick, man, and get my

(07:50):
extra money that I'm trying to get. But those penalties
I thought were costly. But also the fourth quarter Aaron
fourteen to three big big in football when you don't
close out games.

Speaker 1 (08:00):
Ten penalties for ninety nine yards against LSU to your point, though,
a couple of them pretty questionable. And again, this is
the twelve team playoff ere if you're looking for a
silver lining, if you're LSU, plenty of time to get
right there. Next four are against Nichols at South Carolina.
South Carolina did not look very good Nick Cops UCLA Bruins. Unfortunately,
I don't think you see UCLA is going to bat

(08:20):
and Rouge are getting a win, and then South Alabama
that is before a bye, and then they will have
a bye and host Ole Miss. Ole Miss is a
top ten team, but Ole Miss hasn't won at LSU
since two thousand and eight. Real quick, Lincoln Riley, I'll
tell you you know, listen, I was one and if
people missed it, VJ and I were in for Coveno

(08:41):
and Rich and we actually talked a little bit about
Dion Sanders. A lot of the stuff, a lot of
the narratives feel unfair and actually frankly personal with Dion, and.

Speaker 2 (08:50):
It kind of I feel the same way with Lincoln Riley.

Speaker 1 (08:52):
Is Listen, I understand that in the biggest game, even
at Oklahoma, the biggest games you get to the College
Football Playoff, you lost to LSU, you lost to Alabama,
you lost to George Okay, I get that, But this
was a guy that dominated the Big twelve while.

Speaker 2 (09:05):
He was there.

Speaker 1 (09:07):
I think it's easy to forget. He kind of saved
Bob Stoops's legacy. Like Bob Stoops had kind of this
old boring team and they weren't, you know, they weren't
as good, and he kind of knew they needed to
change the offense. So Lincoln Riley comes in, Baker Mayfield
comes in, and they take off and it's like he
gets to sc by the way year one has him
playing to go to the college football People forget that

(09:28):
they were eleven and one going into the Pac twelve
Championship game. I believe they were up like fourteen to
nothing with Caleb Williams before he got hurt. I think
it was a hamstring or something like that. But I
bring it up because I just thought the attacks on
this guy were personal. I'm not saying he's perfect as
a head coach, Lincoln Riley, but I think, yes are
none of us are. And I think you could feel

(09:49):
again the relief from him to get this win. You
talk about a win that should give that team a
lot of confidence.

Speaker 5 (09:56):
Yeah, not only that, especially what Utah State coming up. Okay,
so they get that one, said, they start off too
and oho, so it kind of quiets the boo birds
in the crowd.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
Right then they gotta go to Michigan.

Speaker 5 (10:06):
I don't think they get that one, but then home
against Wisconsin at Minnesota and then that home game against
Penn State. Now I know there's been some good things
about Penn State this year that people say in the
offseason and think that's gonna happen. I don't foresee it
because I still just think coach Franklin is a guy
who just can't win big games.

Speaker 2 (10:22):
You don't get paid in the Big Ten to beat Minnesota.

Speaker 5 (10:24):
You don't get paid in the Big Ten to beat Indiana, Illinois,
the Northwestern. You get paid to try to beat Ohio
State and Michigan if you're not coaching at them schools.
And if you're at those two schools, you get paid
to beat each other and get paid to go win
bigs and championships and go win the national championship and
get to the College Football Playoff. So that game is
gonna be really big. And then after that Maryland, Rutgers, Washington.
I think SC can make the playoff. I really do.

(10:46):
They don't have a super tough schedule this year. Nebraska,
UCLA and Norre Dame. They finished when we saw Notre Dame,
and I know they've got one of the best secondaries
in football, they got one of the best offensive lines
in college football. But they did just struggle to beat
a Texas A and M team and the sweltering, swamp humidity,
heat down in college station. I get it, but that

(11:06):
Texas A and M team is not gonna be very
good this year. I know it's just Opening Saturday. Just
told Bernie Frido last hour. I'm trying not Aaron, I'm
trying not to grab too much from Opening Saturday. But
they're no funny. Wait nine months for football. They was like,
I'm not gonna overreact. Why why because overreact? Let's have fun?

Speaker 2 (11:23):
No, No, I wea can overreact a little bit.

Speaker 5 (11:26):
But what we say today is gonna change Thursday night
going into Saturday.

Speaker 2 (11:32):
Well we look at today, Look the Kings look great.

Speaker 5 (11:34):
Right for two weeks from now, if the Kings go
out and struggle and Cam Warn throws three interceptions, all
that you guys were talking back in, you know, two
weeks ago, and they beat a bad Florida team, Because
we agree, Florida's four to eight loaded, that's a bad
football team. The lost looks good, the wind looks good.
Now what's it gonna look like a month later? But
with USC they needed this win. This was big for

(11:54):
both coaches last night.

Speaker 7 (11:56):
They both needed this win because Brian Kelly's been losing
like three row of his opening games, and Lincoln Rowley's
coming off of a year that was just a debacle
last year where his quarterback was getting clowned for being
in the crowd and crying on his mom.

Speaker 5 (12:09):
After a bad loss. So there's a lot to unpack
with USC. But being out here in Los Angeles, I
got no beef with the Trojans. I'm a Michigan guy.
But being that I live in sunny Los Angeles, I
have no promise seeing USC be good other than when
they pay when they got to go to ann Arbor
and play the defendant undisputed national champions. But good job
for USC. Good job by Miller Mawson. Hey, I'm gonna

(12:29):
tell you something, man. I like this kid. Sure, I
like this kid. I like this kid. He looks like
a kid who's just been waiting his turn and in
the nil air. And as that's so important, Aaron, if
you just wait your turn, guys, you don't always have
to leave. Grass isn't always greener on the other side,
people in all forms of life.

Speaker 1 (12:46):
Well, and that was something they talked about on the broadcast.
But I think it was a good point both of
those quarterbacks to your point Number one, number two overall
picks in last year's NFL draft came from these programs.

Speaker 2 (12:56):
Kaleb Williams and Jade and Daniels.

Speaker 1 (12:58):
Both of these quarterbacks can heated with those guys three
years ago now, so two full seasons ago lost the job,
could have left, don't leave. And you know, neust Meyer
looked good too, by the way, I want to give
him credit.

Speaker 2 (13:11):
And everything was on point.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
Yeah, Miller Moss three hundred and seventy eight yards passing,
and I think it does prove at the very least,
Lincoln Riley can you know, he can develop a lot
of man and so I'm happy for us. By the way,
the big thing with USC that is also worth noting
that defense looks so much better at Deanton Lynn, the
son of Anthony Lynn, comes from UCLA.

Speaker 2 (13:35):
How do you like that move?

Speaker 5 (13:36):
Go across from coming from Westwood down to FIGAROA baby
come across town.

Speaker 1 (13:40):
I'll tell you, I don't know if it's ever like
beneficially like that had to be the moment where Chip
Kelly was like, I probably got it.

Speaker 2 (13:47):
The fans don't really like me.

Speaker 1 (13:48):
We got no nil money. I hit this diamond in
the rough. Defensive coordinator. He flips my defense. They were
bad on defense two years ago, absolute and u CLA
people forget had a top ten defense last year. That
had to be the moment where he was like, I
need to start looking, uh for for some for some
other form of employment.

Speaker 5 (14:07):
For something, for something else exactly. And you're right, Chim Kelly,
people don't like you because you're not a likable it.
Could you do you think you could sit and have
lunch with him to have a good time?

Speaker 2 (14:16):
I don't.

Speaker 5 (14:17):
Could you go down to Venice? Can you go down
to Venice and sit by the water with him? I
think you're gonna have.

Speaker 2 (14:21):
A good brunch. Absolutely not. I wouldn't go to Venice.
But yeah, well Huntington, Yeah, I'd go to hunting to Manhattan,
I'd go to Honey. You're rich. I'm not rich. There's screwed.
But would you bring your your four year old and
your two year old to Venice Beach? Absolutely not?

Speaker 8 (14:37):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (14:37):
There, ye go, we go, we go, we go to Malibill. Oh, yes,
we go to Malibill.

Speaker 5 (14:42):
Okay, well, I you know where the sharks are. Shay,
she said, there's no great whites out there. I'm like, yeah,
you didn't watch Shark Week this year.

Speaker 8 (14:51):
I did.

Speaker 2 (14:51):
They're they're out there, baby, all.

Speaker 1 (14:53):
Right, So we went from Vegas to Shark Week in
about a ninety second span.

Speaker 2 (14:57):

I'm not sure if you've heard, but we are seventy
two hours.

Speaker 2 (16:23):
Is there a game Thursday? There's a game Thursday. I
forget playing. Is it the Raiders? Yeah right, they better
never put them on Thursday night? Right now?

Speaker 1 (16:32):
Well, last time they were on Thursday night, I'm pretty
sure they beat the Chargers about one hundred nothing.

Speaker 2 (16:36):
And Sam, thank you for telling me.

Speaker 1 (16:38):
Ravens Chief says if I haven't had that service on
my calendar for freaking nine.

Speaker 2 (16:42):
Months here, Yes, I no, no, I was joking.

Speaker 1 (16:45):
I knew the Raiders were not playing on but Freddy
confused with Sam.

Speaker 2 (16:50):
Don't let him mess you up. You go ahead and
get you.

Speaker 1 (16:52):
Know, Covino and Richard New York guys. I'm I'm a
Connecticut guy. We do sarcasm. Sometimes they probably do it
better than I do. But yes, chiefs hosting the Ravens.
I believe there will be a Super Bowl banner being
hung there as well. Tell you what, VJ. Just let's
just talk some ball, man like like you know, Bro,
you know we talked before the show. I don't have

(17:13):
any grant, you know, let's just talk ball. Let's go
division by division. You share your thoughts, I'll share mine. Sam,
Why don't you give us a little music, put us
in the mood. Yes, and let's start. So for people
who don't know VJ. You are a Miami Dolphins fan,
So let's start in that AFC East. How do you
think this this division plays out if.

Speaker 5 (17:31):
Our offensive defensive line doesn't fall apart like it did
start in the Tennessee game last year. We lost three starters,
not to mention that we lost Chubb on one end,
lost Phillips on the other end, Los Van Ginkle as
our rst linebacker, lost our safety Javon Holland lost as
Zavian Howard, and had a.

Speaker 2 (17:45):
Defense that's still finished. Who was still helping about.

Speaker 5 (17:48):
Exactly at that point right, still a top ten defense,
number ten or eleven in the league last year. I
just love what they've done with this offense. Man a
Chain's back, He's a year into the process. Anthony Weaver,
defensive coordinator coming over from Baltimore.

Speaker 2 (18:00):
You listen to the players talk.

Speaker 5 (18:02):
They rave about this guy, which is a big flip
from Vic Vangio last year who left and then tried
to throw our players under the bus spy. They just
want to party, like, yeah, dude, that's the old man thing.
You can come up with it. Say give me the
Dolphins in the division at twelve and five. I don't
believe in the Jets. I do not believe. And if
Patriots Page is gonna be one of the worst teams
in the league. I still think Josh Allen's good enough
to get the Bills to the playoff, but I'm not

(18:23):
sure if they're gonna make my wild card cut. So
AFC East Miami Dolphins at twelve and five over on
the nine and a half set by Vegas.

Speaker 1 (18:30):
Let me say this, we talked during the break and
we talked to Britty Fratt about this.

Speaker 2 (18:36):
The New York Jets, and I know what was.

Speaker 1 (18:38):
What was it you called the them bum ass Jets.
I'm intrigued, and let me tell you why. And it's
not just how Aaron Rodgers. First of all, I keep
hearing all this stuff about the offensive line. Got a
bunch of guys in free agency drafted Olufashnu don't understand
the offensive line concerns. Let me take it a step
further though. This schedule that the Jets have, they play
outside of the division. Obviously we know that Miami and

(19:00):
Buffalo made the playoffs last year. Outside of the division,
they play three teams that made the playoffs last year.

Speaker 2 (19:06):
That's it.

Speaker 1 (19:07):
Of the eleven games that they play three teams that
made the playoffs. Forty nine ers Week one, which, as
you and I have discussed for the last three hours,
or something weird going on in San Francisco. They just
got Brandon Ayuk back. They don't know when Tret Williams
is coming back. God willing hopefully Ricky Piersoll's back soon,
but he's obviously not gonna be available for Week one.

Speaker 2 (19:24):
But you get the forty.

Speaker 1 (19:24):
Nine ers, and then late in the year, yeah, the
Texans at home, you get the Rams at home, and
so I just think the schedule breaks really nicely for them.
I like your Dolphins as well. I'm a little bit
more down on the Bills. I don't blame Josh Allen.
I think it's more of a Sean McDermott thing.

Speaker 2 (19:40):
He's in a hot seat. He should have made he
is in a hot seat.

Speaker 1 (19:43):
I mean, I think he should have been gone last year.
But I didn't think it was going to happen once
they won the division. But I thought he should have been.
But tell you what, it's gonna sound controversial just because
I maybe it's maybe I'm wish casting it. I'll take
the Jets because I like the schedule and I just
I think Buffalo is gonna be down.

Speaker 2 (19:59):
Listen, I love your guy to a.

Speaker 1 (20:02):
Oos not not not wishing anything negative on him, but
health has been a concern for him. Does he miss
a He was great last year, but that was seventeen
last year. Yeah, that was the exception of the rule.
I will take the Jets in the AFC East.

Speaker 2 (20:17):
Let's go.

Speaker 5 (20:17):
I just gotting to argue, we're sorry about this. If
you guys can say that, fine, just make sure you
say it about Justin Herbert and Joe Burrow. Too, That's
all I want. I just want to consistent across the board.
If oo'z is an injury concern, then make sure we
know that. Justin Herbert and Joe Burrow have bow Smith
more than six games in the last two season. Also
Joe Burrow six and eight games. So just if you

(20:37):
want to say that about OOS, that's fine. Just make
sure we stay consistent across the board.

Speaker 2 (20:41):
That's all.

Speaker 1 (20:41):
Next division, then let's go to the AFC North then
Cincinnati Bengals.

Speaker 2 (20:44):
You obviously love him, I know I don't love them.
I love the Baltimore Ravens right here.

Speaker 5 (20:48):
Lamar Jackson and those guys just spit up on themselves
in the AFC Championship game against the Chiefs. I don't
understand why you're the best rushing team the last twenty
four months in the world in the NFL, and for
some reason you get in the biggest game possible and
you want to try to prove that Lamar Jackson's a
pocket passer. Don't do that. Be who you are, unapologetically
who you are. And Derek King Henry, I don't think

(21:11):
that he has a thirteen hundred yard left season and
zero But you guys remember when La Dania Thomlinson got
cut by the San Diego Chargers and went to the Jets.
Those old thirty year old, thirty one year old running backs,
they always have one little chip left on their shoulder.
I like about nine to fifty to a grand on
the ground because Lamar Jackson's gonna run for eight and change.
I think you have some backups there that will also
do really real Mitchell will be back this year from

(21:31):
being healthy.

Speaker 2 (21:32):
And Zay Flowers. I like this kid man.

Speaker 5 (21:33):
I'm dubbing him the next Tyreek Hill type of player
because of his speed and the way he could just
take the top off of defenses if he reaches out
the ball and scores and it doesn't fumble. Against the Chiefs, guys,
they're gonna win that game and go to a Super Bowl.
I like the way the schedule breaks for them. Tough,
tough division. But any team that's coached by a guy
by the last name of Hardball with a defense like that,
Kyle Hamilton at the safety position, and then you bring

(21:54):
over Jackson, Kareem.

Speaker 2 (21:58):
Jackson the safety.

Speaker 5 (21:59):
They pick up the safety and bring him in and
add him to that secondary there going against the offensive
area offensive they have to in that division. Give me
to Baltimore Ravens the winners division here. I like thirteen
and four here, guys for the Baltimore Ravens. Wow, I'll
just ad it really quick, since you asked me to
reference it. I liked the Bengals, but the concerns about
Joe Burrow coupled with the concerns about Jamar Chase not

(22:21):
participating in the preseason, I just I can't get behind him.
I'm with the Ravens. I think Lamar Get's a bad
rap for how bad Todd Munkin was in the ANFC
Championship Game last year. I think they I don't know
if they went on Thursday.

Speaker 1 (22:32):
I don't have an official pick for that yet, but
I think they don't miss a beat from where they
were a year ago.

Speaker 2 (22:37):
Let's keep it going.

Speaker 1 (22:38):
AFC South, the division that only a grandmother could love.
Who he got in the AFC South.

Speaker 5 (22:45):
Give me to Jacksonville Jaguars that bounce back here because
I'm gonna trust in Trevor Lawrence. I'm gonna trust in
Doug Peterson. People have to remember last year, at one
point they were the number one seed in the AFC
and they were rolling, and for some reason, much like
the Philadelphia Eagles being ten in one in one point
last year, they just spit up on the cells and
things just fell apart. But injuries had a lot to
do with it also, too, and I think they rebound
from that. I'm not high on the Texans as much

(23:06):
as everybody else's. People have to remember, go back to
Week eighteen last year, fourth and one, the Indianapolis Colts
at home, decides to throw a ball to a flat
in the flat to a full back. Guess how many
targets he had up until that point all season, ladies
and gentlemen, boys and girls.

Speaker 2 (23:20):
Zero?

Speaker 5 (23:21):
Why are you throwing the ball to a full back
in a flat with the season and division on the line,
to a guy that hasn't had any attempts all year long?
In the ball hits him in his hands, he drops it.
Houston wins his division, and then we all love CJ.
Strout and we all love Houston this year. I think
Doug Peterson writes this ship. I think Trevor Lawrence is
a is a top twelve eleven quarterback in the league

(23:44):
making fifty five mil. Give me, give me the Jacksonville
Jaguars to bounce back and take the NFC South this year.

Speaker 2 (23:50):
Yeah, I'll be excuse me, I'll be quick on this.

Speaker 1 (23:52):
I didn't understand, like I understand they didn't win the division,
but felt like everyone turned on them a little quick.
You know two years ago, Doug he's the exact mature
coach that they need after Urban Meyer, and then it
was just like boom, they stink, They're terrible. I'm with you,
I actually agree with you on the Jacksonville Jaguars AFC West.
Do you have the guts to pick against the Kansas

(24:14):
City Chiefs? Gohad, This is as easy as a canon.
I'll make this super short. It's the Kansas City Chiefs.

Speaker 5 (24:19):
They have the best quarterback in football, they have the
best coach in football. They have the best home field
advantage of football. When you talk quarterback tiers. One thing
that's really irking my nerves, really getting under my skin
is anybody being in Tier one with Patrick Mahomes. Stop it,
it's Patrick Mahomes and then it's everybody. I jump in
on that really quick, please.

Speaker 1 (24:38):
Last week, so I was in with Kerry Rhodes in
this time slot and it was the day the Josh
Allen is the most overrated quarterback.

Speaker 2 (24:45):
Thing came out.

Speaker 1 (24:46):
I said, he's not overrated. The problem is we're trying
to put someone on the Patrick Mahomes tier and he's not.

Speaker 2 (24:54):
There's one Patrick Mahomes.

Speaker 1 (24:55):
He's one of one, thank you, and so he's overrated
because we're trying to make him into something that he's not.

Speaker 2 (25:02):
I didn't mean to cut you off, but no, no, no,
that's fine.

Speaker 8 (25:05):
No. No.

Speaker 5 (25:06):
I was on that afternoon, Bubusar. Yeah, I was on
that after and we had the same discussion. I was like, no,
he's not over rated. I just don't think he's up
there where. Everybody's trying to put him. But it should
be my homes and then everybody else. The Chiefs now,
to me, guys are the Patriots of the last twenty years.
I will not pick against them until someone could consistently
make sure that they don't even get to the AFC

(25:26):
Championship Game or the Super Bowl. Until that happens from
the AFC. For me, it's gonna be the Chiefs moving forward.
Three words. Give me your three wild cards in the NFAFC.

Speaker 2 (25:38):
If you have this is hard, I know this is hard.

Speaker 5 (25:40):
Give me Cincinnati and Cleveland, because I think that division
gets three and then it's either gonna be between Buffalo
and Houston. I think Houston has the better weapons, in
the easier division and schedule, even though.

Speaker 2 (25:54):
They have a stretch.

Speaker 5 (25:54):
I think three separate times they have back to back
road games this year. Give me Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Houston
as my three wild cards. With Jacksonville, Baltimore, Kansas City,
and the Dolphins winning the divisions, that's the AFC playoffs.

Speaker 1 (26:07):
So I will give you I think this essentially the
same three Cincinnati. I had the Jets winning the division,
so I'll have the Fins and Buffalo really quickly.

Speaker 2 (26:16):
We're both harball guys. What has you concerned about the Chargers.

Speaker 5 (26:19):
A lot of turnover and Ken Justin Herbert really check
in at what Harball was that They who wants to
bring those pass attends down, get the ball to the
tight ends, run the ball, power offense, power defense. Let's
let's shorten the game against some of these high powered teams.
Let's get more physical than everybody else. That's what Harball does.

Speaker 1 (26:37):
Those our AFC picks tell you, FJ we'll come back.
We'll talk NFC Rich Davis's San Francisco forty nine Ers.
They're going back to the Super Bowl. I think I
know where you stand. I think I know where I
stand as well.

Speaker 2 (26:48):
We'll come back.

Speaker 1 (26:49):
We'll do the NFC before we do, though, let's toss
it over the news desk, Nick Cope, what is trending?

Speaker 5 (26:55):
My man?

Speaker 10 (26:55):
Big?

Speaker 5 (26:55):
Nick?

Speaker 2 (26:56):
All right?

Speaker 3 (26:56):
Speaking of the forty nine ers, they placed receiver Ricky
Pearson on the reserve non football injury list as he
recovers from the gunshot wound he sustained in an attempted
robbery on Saturday. He was released from the hospital on Sunday,
so he will miss at least the first four games
of the season. Also missing at least the first four
games of the year is Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards.

(27:17):
Hilaire Casey placed him on the reserve non football illness list.
NFL media reports that Kansas City receiver Hollywood Brown will
not play in Thursday's opener because of his shoulder injury.
He did not practice today. Vikings receiver Jordan Addison back
at practice today as he comes back from an ankle
injury suffered in mid August. Bengals receiver Jamar Chase did

(27:40):
not practice today as he continues to seek a long
term deal. Day Baseball one final Brewers defeated the Cardinals
nine to three Milwaukee game and a half back now
of the Dodgers for the best record in the National
League LA. In action in Arizona against the Diamondbacks, Dodgers
up three to one in the fifth inning, shohey Otani
has added another stolen base, so he's now add forty

(28:01):
four homers and forty four stolen bags as he works
towards that fifty to fifty mark. Orioles blowing out the
White Sox eleven to two in the sixth inning. Assuming
Baltimore continues and finishes off this win, they will pull
even with the Yankees. At the top of the Al
East fifth inning in Cincinnati, Red Zinastros tied to two
runs apiece and the Guardians are leading the Royals four

(28:25):
to one in the sixth inning. In Kansas City, US Open,
American Jess Pagoula into the quarterfinals. So two is twenty
twenty one Men's champion to Neil Medvedev. And finally, Joey
Chestnuts set a new world record consuming eighty three hot
dogs in ten minutes as he defeated Ta Kuru Koba
Yashi in their Netflix duel Guys, Back to you.

Speaker 1 (28:45):
Thank you very much, Nick Cope. This is Covino and Rich.
Covino and Rich are out this afternoon air towards VJ.
Husky in for the guys. Really quickly before we get
back to football. How many hot dogs do you think
you could you could eat in ten minutes if you
absolutely had to. Oh good if you had to. But
you know, if you're if you're competing, I know you're
a competitive guy.

Speaker 2 (29:04):
Is it bread too? Bread too? I mean, if Kobe
Ashi's gonna do it, you gotta do it.

Speaker 3 (29:08):
You know what I wanted to add about this competition too.
They had specific rules. They couldn't dunk and soak the
bread like they always do, and they had to keep
the dog in the bun. It couldn't separate them. They
did have water they could drink, but yeah, no dunking
and soaking. So he did eight and here, Yeah, he
reset his own world record from seventy six to eighty three.

Speaker 1 (29:31):
Well, the crazy part about this year, like when they
did the when they did it without him, I forget
what Like the final tally was like they got like
somebody got like whatever, like sixty or something, and they
were like, oh, Joey Chestnut did sixty and half the
time or something something that like the total was like
forty one or something, and they were like, Kobe or

(29:54):
Chestnut does like seventy and.

Speaker 3 (29:57):
It was fifty one hot dogs in the past July's
Contest without Chestnut and that, and he did eighty three today.

Speaker 5 (30:05):
And keeping with the spirit of the show, my stand
up comedian mine just went all over the math and.

Speaker 2 (30:09):
Elijah are the Great? Are great? Great? Internet? Social media?

Speaker 5 (30:13):
Five first radio And we were talking off there doing
the commercial about like what you could say? What you
shild is it just how to maneuver through the radio
life this whole conversation. I'm sorry steandup comedia twenty two years.
My mind just went all over the place. Okay, hot
dog in the bun? How many can I eat in
ten minutes? Uh?

Speaker 2 (30:31):
Oh god? If I had to, how maybe five or six?
Bread fills me up? I know, bread breadfield, especially if.

Speaker 5 (30:37):
It's those cheap hot dog buns that's like a dollar
fifty nine for a pack of you know, like a
dozen of them, like those those faking rich that fake
bread stuff. It's if it's potato rolls, only like three
because those things, those things fill you up real quick.

Speaker 2 (30:50):
So maybe like three.

Speaker 5 (30:51):
But I'm more of a hot link guy, not I
haven't had a hot dog in I haven't had a
hot dog in a decade.

Speaker 2 (30:55):
Wow.

Speaker 5 (30:56):
Oh, I haven't had a hot dog in over ten years.
Ever since I saw that video on how they're made,
I was like, Okay, hey, I'm good with hot dogs.

Speaker 1 (31:01):
I have not seen it, nor do I care. By
the way, VJ at Big Vanilla Funny, I'm at Aaron
Underscore Tours. If you want to let us know how
many you could get in, I'll tell you what, VJ,
why don't we come back? When we do, We'll go
ahead and talk NFC. As I said, Rich Davis's San
Francisco forty nine ers are the defending NFC champs. Will

(31:22):
they get back to the Super Bowl? Will they get
back to the playoffs? We discussed that next Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 8 (31:27):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to
listen live.

Speaker 1 (31:40):
Welcome in everybody. Our two Covino and Rich show. Cavino
and Rich are out this afternoon eron Torres VJ Husky in.
We are filling in until seven pm Eastern time. The
Odd Couple will follow us. Cavino and Rich will be
back tomorrow. Should mention, by the way, we are broadcasting

(32:02):
live from the tyreck dot Com studios. Tyreck dot com
will help you get there and unmatched selection, fast free shipping,
free roadazard protection and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tirerec
dot com the way tire buying should be. So we're
coming off an awesome stretch of college football. Four straight
days are in the books. By the way, about an
hour and a half from now, we will get the

(32:24):
final game of Week one, Boston College at Florida State.

Speaker 2 (32:29):
So I was thinking of EP Covino and Rich.

Speaker 1 (32:32):
They're the best, okay, but one thing is one thing
that they do I think so well. They they they
bring up fun, engaging conversations, bring everybody in. And this
is what I want to do now. I do want
to bring an Eyowa Sam producer Shay Nick as well.
And this is what we're talking about right now. By
the way, I do want to open up the phone
lines as well for anybody who's interested in chiming in

(32:52):
one eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox one eight seven,
seven nine nine six six three sixty nine, Shaye, make
sure that the lines.

Speaker 2 (33:00):
Are open there.

Speaker 1 (33:02):
We know a lot of you're driving around in the car,
But I do want people's perspective on this is that
I think. So when we talk like great stretches on
a sports calendar, there's a couple that always come to mind.
There's the opening week of March Madness. I'm obviously a
college hoops guy. I love it. Wall to wall games.
You know, you wake up games tip at noon Eastern,

(33:24):
they're on till midnight Eastern. You know, you're betting, you're
in pools, you're in Vegas.

Speaker 2 (33:29):
You're doing whatever. It's one of the best.

Speaker 1 (33:32):
I think everybody loves this opening stretch of NFL that
we got coming up Thursday night. Obviously, things kick off
with the Ravens at the Chiefs worth noting this.

Speaker 2 (33:41):
Year very rare Friday game.

Speaker 1 (33:44):
On opening weekend with the Eagles and Packers in Brazil,
which obviously leads into Sunday. Then we get the doubleheader
on Monday night. So when everyone talks about these great
stretches on the sports calendar.

Speaker 2 (33:58):
They always mention those.

Speaker 1 (34:00):
I don't think they mentioned the current stretch that we
are in right now though. In college football, from the
perspective of Thursday night, it starts. Always got a marquee
game this year. I know that Colorado isn't necessarily one
of the best teams, but they are certainly a marquee
team of interest.

Speaker 2 (34:20):
Goes right in a Friday, we.

Speaker 1 (34:21):
Got all day Saturday, we had an LSU USC game where,
if the numbers that I'm seeing are correct, eleven million
people were watching last night beautiful and that was, by
the way, with a lot of people not even being
able to get it because a charter at every or
not Charter Direct TV and everything going on there.

Speaker 2 (34:35):
And by the way, it closes tonight with Florida State.
So I just bring it up.

Speaker 1 (34:39):
I don't think this stretch of five days gets enough credit.
So what I want to ask the guys, I want
to ask you VJ, give me a stretch on the
sports calendar, and I'm gonna make it broad So it
could be a weekend, it could be a three day stretch.
I also want to say it could include the Olympics.
It could include, you know, a two to three week
stretch as opposed to just two or three da What

(35:01):
is the one for you that you don't think it's
enough credit on this sport.

Speaker 5 (35:04):
Mine's a little long, though, mine's about three weeks. Mine's
about three weeks to about a month. But it's a
beautiful stretch. You guys are gonna feel me on this.
Hit me at about October twenty fifth to Thanksgiving, okay, okay,
because by that time you have those college playoff polls
about to drop. Right, College playoffs is about week nine,

(35:25):
week eight. We know what teams are, the NFL is in,
we're middle of the we're week seven, week eight, now, baby,
we know who everybody pretty much is at this point,
and teams are teams are rolling. But then you also
have Major League Baseball, either the NLCS or the ALCS
is wrapping up or the beginning of the World Series.

Speaker 2 (35:46):
Then you have the.

Speaker 5 (35:47):
NBA and NHL starting because the NBA has been moved up.
NHL always starts late August, like late October, but the
NBA moved up. Now they're starting earlier. You got that
now going.

Speaker 2 (35:58):
So then leading into by the way, college hoop starts
right exactly. That's what I was gonna get. So no, no,
you're good.

Speaker 5 (36:05):
If I pushed it all the way to Thanksgiving, you
got all the big rivalry games in college football, all
the early weeks of November.

Speaker 2 (36:12):
You're trying to job there, Joscelyn.

Speaker 5 (36:14):
As far as the college football playoff rankings go, you
have the game Michigan, Ohio. You have Oregon or State,
the Silvil War, you have the Apple Cut Washington, Washington State.
Then this guy gets all lathering up for college basketball
because you got Bermuda, you got Puerto Rico, you got
the Maui, you got all that early guy, you got

(36:35):
the Big Ten versus the SEC coaches versus Cancer, you.

Speaker 2 (36:38):
Got the Jimmy v this guy.

Speaker 5 (36:41):
This guy's lathering up by that time that three and
a three and a half weeks, guys get I mean,
you guys can just give me the trophy now on
the winner at this topic.

Speaker 2 (36:50):
That's my That period of sports. Nobody can beat that.

Speaker 1 (36:55):
It's a really good one, especially because like for people
like myself, I'm not a huge baseball guy, but October
baseball just hits different.

Speaker 8 (37:01):
You know.

Speaker 2 (37:02):
That's when you get to that point.

Speaker 1 (37:03):
Yeah, and by the way, like, and it's the same
for all those sports. If you're not a college football guy,
but everybody watches Michigan Ohio State. If you're not an
NBA guy, you're still tuning into Opening Night. Okay, somebody's
raising a trop a ban or whatever, blah blah blah.

Speaker 2 (37:15):
So that's a great stretch.

Speaker 1 (37:17):
Now we have to listen to everybody else's options before
we crown you the champion here, Iowa, Sam, do you
have a stretch uh that that is especially fun for you?

Speaker 2 (37:26):
Yeah?

Speaker 11 (37:26):
Mind similar to VJs. I would just say the duration
of the World Series and all the football that takes
place in that what ten to fourteen days however long?

Speaker 2 (37:35):
That something on every night.

Speaker 11 (37:36):
Yeah, and it's just great because it's the culmination of
Major League Baseball and you have the NFL and college
football going on. To me, like just that stretch, you know,
like late October into early November, that's pretty solid.

Speaker 2 (37:48):
I'm gonna take that one.

Speaker 1 (37:49):
By the way, if anybody wants to share yours one
eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox one eight seven
seven nine nine six six three six nine, feel free
to call in producer Shay, who might might have to
actually answer the phone. Here, so I apologize if you do.
But Shay perked up. He said he had one right away.
So what do you got here, Shae.

Speaker 4 (38:09):
I A lot of people don't think about this either,
but the NBA Finals and the NHL Stanley Cup happened
at the same exact time, and it's literally a nineteen
days This past year, it was a nineteen days stretch
where you're literally having a finals game every other day,
so it's like fourteen games in nineteen days. It's better
than playoffs because it's literally the finals and there's not

(38:31):
much else going on during that time, so it's literally
like all I'm thinking about is Finals, who's gonna win this,
Who's gonna win that? So for me, that definitely takes king.
But I do love the stretch of VJ and Sam
were also talking about.

Speaker 2 (38:42):
That's a good one you picked though, too.

Speaker 5 (38:44):
If you push that one back a little earlier, baseball's
just starting also exactly. Yeah, baseball's kind of getting cooking
at that point also too.

Speaker 2 (38:50):
Yeah, I'll add on that one too.

Speaker 1 (38:52):
Shay is like, it's kind of what I just said
about Major League Baseball is if you're not a hockey fan,
and like in December, you have football, you have college football,
you have college basketball. You're not gonna pay attention to it.
But it's like even this year, like I had on
those Stanley Cup Finals games because they were a blast,
Nick Cope, you got anything.

Speaker 2 (39:11):
Yeah, just to build.

Speaker 3 (39:13):
Off of yours, I kind of have one and a
half answers because I didn't want to throw something else
at you.

Speaker 2 (39:17):
But I like, right now, I'm a tennis guy.

Speaker 3 (39:20):
So extending back a little bit grabbed the US open
into the start of college football in the NFL. I
just like the anticipation of the start of the years.
But I think we're gonna have a new stretch. We
haven't experienced it yet, but we're gonna experience it for
the first time January ninth through January thirteenth. You're gonna
get your CFP semi finals on the ninth and the tenth,

(39:41):
and that goes into Super wild Card weekend for the NFL.
I think that is gonna be a massive five days
coming up.

Speaker 5 (39:50):
That's okay, that's ten million views plus per game. That's
ten million least, let's oh at least at least, So
we got to tell the families, yeah, you're not seeing us.
So you said two straight days of college football playoffs,
even the three straight days.

Speaker 3 (40:04):
Yeah, you're gonna have a CFP semi final on Thursday,
another one on Friday.

Speaker 2 (40:08):
And the NFL has been.

Speaker 3 (40:09):
Doing this since XP the playoffs, you get games Saturday, Sunday, and.

Speaker 2 (40:14):
They you'll get the Monday night game as well.

Speaker 3 (40:16):
So you got massive games five days in a row,
college and NFL.

Speaker 5 (40:21):
And then Tuesday will get some big college basketball matchup.
Wednesday will get some big NBA ESPN matchup that'll go
right back into Thursday night.

Speaker 2 (40:30):
College full. Oh yeah, I'll give you one that's a
good one. I'll give you a couple other events that
I just you know, kind of just on a calendar. One.

Speaker 1 (40:41):
I'm not a golf guy, but there are two things
that I always enjoy every other year. The Ryder Cup.
There's that weird like USA thing going on. Sometimes it's overseas,
so the hours are weird. It's different than any other
golf that you get. So that's like a three day
stretch once every two years. I also, I've talked to

(41:01):
Dan Byer about this, who obviously is is with Cavino
and Rich every day. There's something about the British I
call it the British Open. Okay, so the kids call
it the Open Championship. I don't know when it became
it's the Open Championship. No, no, no, it's the British freaking Open.

Speaker 2 (41:15):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (41:15):
But there's something about that event. It starts super early.
We live on the West coast, so I mean even
if you live on the East coast, it's on before
you wake up.

Speaker 2 (41:24):
The weather's always weird, you know it's July. But they're
wearing the turtle necks and the long sleeves. But they
never cancel it. That's the great part.

Speaker 1 (41:33):
It's like you get a US Open where there's rain
they might have to or the Masters they might postpone.
They might postpone it for for the you know, they'll
call off the day and they'll start early the next day.
It's like British Open. They just play through anything. It's like,
you know, I don't even know. So those are a
couple other ones I was thinking of. I'll also say this, VJ.
I don't know where you stood this summer on the

(41:56):
Olympics because I was kind of one of those people.

Speaker 2 (41:59):
I'll be honest. You know, the Olympics in twenty one.

Speaker 1 (42:01):
I know it was a weird COVID thing and there
were no fans, no fans, but I was kind of like,
have the Olympics kind of run their course?

Speaker 8 (42:08):
Like?

Speaker 2 (42:08):
Am I gonna? I watch sports all day every day?

Speaker 1 (42:12):
Do I want to sit down for three weeks and
watch a bunch of athletes that I don't know in
a bunch of sports that I don't care about.

Speaker 2 (42:18):
I found this year with.

Speaker 1 (42:19):
The Olympics, between Simone Biles, between Noah Lyles, between some
of the swipping stuff, yeah, Novak and tennis, Scheffler and
golf obviously the NBA, the NBA guys, and really not
just Team USA, but you know Serbia. I didn't think
I was going to enjoy the Olympics as much as

(42:40):
I did this summer viee oh.

Speaker 5 (42:41):
Really, well, I'm a big no one. I'm a huge Olympic.
I can't wait till it comes to the LA. I
definitely would be out so and be covering some things
or whatever I can get my hands on at that point.
But I got burnt out this year, and I normally don't,
but I did get burnt out because there were some
things underwhelming. The Team USA was underwhelming for me, yeah,

(43:03):
basketball was underwhelming. Yeah yeah, the men's side was underwhelming.

Speaker 1 (43:06):
For me.

Speaker 2 (43:07):
Some of those games shouldn't even have been that close.

Speaker 5 (43:08):
And it just showed that we could just throw out
the world's best players, our best players, that we can
beat the world. And that's something I've known for about
twenty five years of my life. But Shakurie Richardson coming
up short in the one hundred, that was something right there.
And then she didn't even if you guys remember she
didn't even qualify for the two.

Speaker 2 (43:24):
Wow. And then Noah Allows.

Speaker 5 (43:25):
Losing in the two and then coming up with the
COVID you know thing, but seeing at a party partying
with no mask on like two days later because he's
so called retested himself. He was a guy that was
really irritating to me because anybody that's listened to me,
whether it's Martin VJ or anything I do on social
media or any radio TV I've been on, I love moxie,

(43:45):
I love attitude, I love personality.

Speaker 2 (43:48):
I just wanted to be organic sure, and Noah Allows.

Speaker 5 (43:51):
Feels like a guy that was kind of pulled to
the side and say, hey, track needs a you know,
are speaker, track needs a star you should be that
you should be, and no allows us from where I'm
from seven oh three baby, Northern Virginia. He's from the
same area code I'm from. I know the high school
that man went too. So I put Katie La Decky too,
she from seven oh three Virginia. Look it up, baby,

(44:13):
But I thought, no allowed that that Randos course on me,
Shakiri Richardson Randis course on me. I watched everything, some
of all the bowels did. I watched all the women's
gymnastic stuff. If it was on, I watched it. But
I'm like you, Aaron, it felt like it felt like
the changing of the guard this year because you talk
about like the tennis right, you talk about Nadal being
old and Andy Murray being old, like Lebron being ol

(44:34):
Durant b and old Stuffingo. It really felt like, wow,
this seems like the old Olympics.

Speaker 2 (44:40):
Ah see how I did that? Ah the old Olympics.

Speaker 5 (44:44):
And for the first time in a long time, it
did run this course by like day ten. I was like, Okay,
I'm cool on all this. I didn't even watch the
four by one relays and I normally wait for those,
and that's normally kind of like the last things. But
I figured after I watched our four by four, I
watched out four by for far under team get down
by the Netherlands, I'm like, okay, I'm I'm done with
track and stuff. So I enjoyed watching it. But by

(45:06):
like day ten, Mark like by day ten Aar, I
was yeah, I was done.

Speaker 1 (45:11):
I will add I know I just hyped up the Olympics,
but I was really into the women's gymnastics.

Speaker 2 (45:16):
I thought it was a great, great spectacle, and.

Speaker 1 (45:19):
It was almost like once it was done, it was
like kind of the wind came out of my sales. Now,
admittedly I went away towards like the final five six
days of the Olympics, and but you know, it's something
to me.

Speaker 2 (45:29):
It was like.

Speaker 1 (45:31):
I said, I told my my Saturday partner, Jason Martin,
like it's almost to me like major League Baseball's like
I don't watch Major League Baseball, but sometimes if I'm
just doing stuff around the house, I'll have a game on.
Put it on, you know, because you and I are
the same way is we know we have this mic.
So if it's the NFL, we're locked in. If it's
a big NBA game, we're locked in. If it's a
big college football game, we're locked in baseball. The Olympics,

(45:52):
you just kind of have it on in the background,
you know, you know, you're It's not something that like
I'm sitting there with a notepad in pen making sure
that I'm not missing anything like I would be for
a big like Sunday night football game.

Speaker 2 (46:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (46:03):
And with the women's Olympics, it wasn't just Simone Bows.
The young lady from Brazil was amazing, Like she was amazing.
She beat Bows in one of those individual events and
took the goal. Like it wasn't just Simone. That competition
was really in all the swimming. USA We're not the
but we're not the big dogs no more.

Speaker 1 (46:22):
Australia, the Netherlands, Italy, Leon Marshaw yeah from France.

Speaker 5 (46:26):
Yeah, he We're not the big dogs no more. And
I appreciate that. I'm USA. I served in the military.
My father was a drill sergeant of Airborne Razor in
fourteen Romeo. My mother's a Colonel Panagon. But I do
love seeing other countries put their best guys out there
and come challenging and take on America and beat us
some sorry, doesn't bother me. So one thing I didn't
watch I tried to get into. I tried to get

(46:46):
in the diving. Dude, I'm done. I'm out of it.
I'm out of diving platform, the springboard stuff. Those guys
are smart. I'm trying to figure out if those are
really human beings.

Speaker 2 (46:56):
I couldn't missing they come from a lab. The way
they're built in the way to hit the water, Like,
come on.

Speaker 1 (47:00):
I didn't notice diving until basically the swimming was done. Yes,
by that point, the gymnastics was done, and so because
of it, I was kind of like it was yeah,
like we said, it was like day sixteen that fell
or not?

Speaker 2 (47:12):
Maybe not they started diving earlier.

Speaker 5 (47:14):
Because started as like yeah, no, no man dues them.
Dudes are too little, like where they make this guy,
yet he doesn't he doesn't make a splash when he
goes into water, Like if I just stick my hand
in the swimming pool, it gets a splash.

Speaker 1 (47:27):
By the way, one last thing I will say about
the Olympics. You said it coming to la in twenty
twenty eight.

Speaker 2 (47:32):
I can't wait. I'm so far.

Speaker 1 (47:34):
Like there was one night we had it on in
the studio here during my Saturday Show and I started
googling venues. You know, they're gonna have the swimming at
Sofi Stadium, which is gonna be crazy. Yeah, because they
did the trials in Indianapolis at Lucas Oil Stadium, so
they're right, they did so they.

Speaker 2 (47:49):
Can put a pool man. That's amazing. Yeah, I don't
know how how they go about building? Yeah, how do
we do that?

Speaker 1 (47:55):
But they're gonna have swimming at Sofi Stadium, They're gonna
have gymnastics at Crypto Arena, they're gonna basketball at the
new one and in Inglewood. Okay, so it's gonna be correct.
What's that called the Old or something? And you would
zone the Terror Dome or something like that where the
Clippers are gonna be. No, I'm super gassed into it,
thank you. I'm I'm super gas. I'm super excited. I
can't wait to cover uh some of.

Speaker 5 (48:16):
These events and where they're gonna have stuff, I'm not
they're gonna have stuff with the Colosseum, it's gonna be
I wonder we're opening ceremonies are did you do we
know that yet?

Speaker 1 (48:24):
So first I saw the Colisseum, but then somebody we
could google it really quick. But somebody Sofi told me
nick I'm here.

Speaker 3 (48:31):
Yeah, so far, Sofi is gonna do the opening ceremonies,
but then they have to get the pool ready, so
that's why the schedule is gonna be flipped. Track is
gonna be the first week, swimming is gonna be the
second week.

Speaker 2 (48:41):
Usually it's the other way around. So they and they're
putting track is so far.

Speaker 3 (48:46):
No no tracks at the Colisseum. They're gonna have to
and they're gonna have to build it up above the
playing surface. Since they renovated the Colisseum, they brought the
seats closer in for football, so they're gonna have to
build that's between the swimming and then that elevated track.
That's the most work they're doing and getting these stadiums ready.
Every otherwise everything else is ready to go.

Speaker 5 (49:05):
And now they have to clash there too at the
Coliseum for NASCAR, so they they bring in, they could
turn that field around. They can do stuff with that field.
I'm excited. I just I'm exed. I can't wait to
grab that good credential man and hit some of these.
If I don't care what it is, I'll go do dart throwing.
As long as they don't have breakdancing. As long as
they don't have break dancing in this one, I'm cool
because that was clear.

Speaker 2 (49:24):
That was clear there.

Speaker 5 (49:25):
I read that, But that was that was that was
an embarrassment to my culture. I come from that era.
I was in a breaking group, cold crush gang. That's
what we was called. Cold Crush Gang.

Speaker 1 (49:34):
By the way, one last note on the twenty twenty
eight LA Olympics. There is no venue that's quite right
for softball. So they're actually having softball in Oklahoma City.
I don't know who I got to call. We gotta
get Chris Plank on the call of Olympics software. Yes,
they're doing it in Oklahoma City because that's the biggest
softball venue we have in the country. So Nick, maybe

(49:56):
do you know anything about that, because obviously u CELA
out can these Dodger Stadium they can't.

Speaker 3 (49:59):
You, Well, they got a new baseball there. Yeah, yeah,
there's not a great so yeah. U c L A
softball facility is older. They can only accommodate little more
than a thousand fans. It doesn't have great facilities around it.
USC doesn't have a softball team. There's really not a
lot of options.

Speaker 5 (50:14):
Interesting where the Angels play. They can't they can't turn
that into a softball field.

Speaker 2 (50:21):
You I don't got an answer for that one.

Speaker 5 (50:23):
I'm just thinking out loud. You're you're you're putting swimming
in soul Far producer.

Speaker 2 (50:28):
Softball Insider has more to share on this. Go ahead.

Speaker 4 (50:31):
Yeah, So Devin Park is gonna probably be the grounds
that they play on, and that's gonna be in Oklahoma City.
It's headquarters and home of the USA Softball Hall of Fame.

Speaker 2 (50:41):
So that's where they have the college that but that's
not where the Olympics are. The Olympics are in Los Angeles. Yeah, yeah,
so it's a little weird. So there's gonna be two.
They did surfing in Tahiti this year. They can't.

Speaker 1 (50:53):
They could have done surfing on the Rhine River, but
they did it in Tahiti.

Speaker 5 (50:56):
So yeah, but that well, they got in it. We
heard about that. But this is ridiculous. I'm sorry ran
on this. This is ridiculous that the Olympics are here
and you're trying to drive Oklahoma. So that makes zero city.
There's cal state full of I'm just gonna start naming
surrounding cities until somebody goes, hey, fix that.

Speaker 2 (51:15):
But what angels play. You can't turn that into.

Speaker 11 (51:17):
A softball a stadium for this, like they could put
a little money into it. I just want chrisplank On
for Yokahoma City. Is that's bizarre.

Speaker 2 (51:25):
It's only four years from now. I'm pretty sure you're
temporary diamond. Yeah. Wow, that's bad. That's bad.

Speaker 1 (51:31):
I mean, if they could build a beach volleyball stadium
outside of the Eiffel Tower, they could build a softball stadium, solf.

Speaker 4 (51:37):
So that's not the only thing that's going to be
happening there. It's canoe slaloam. I don't know if I'm
saying that right. Yeah, that's also going to be in
Oklahoma City.

Speaker 2 (51:46):
On the La River. Yeah that's dumb too.

Speaker 4 (51:47):
Yeah, they said that there was nothing in California that
can accommodate it.

Speaker 2 (51:51):
So they're going right up against the Pacific Ocean. Yeah yeah,
right up against the Pacific Ocean.

Speaker 5 (51:56):
But there's no way we could do anything water in
Los Angeles because it's right next to the biggest ocean
on the planet.

Speaker 2 (52:01):
Great awesome. Makes at some water and make get some
channels and then you know, build your course.

Speaker 5 (52:07):
It's four years from now. They turn these cities in
Oklahoma City too, Like.

Speaker 1 (52:11):
That's because that's where the biggest softball venue in America is.
I just want to shout out Chris Blank and all
you guys are doing.

Speaker 2 (52:18):
There or owe him money or something. Why do you
keep trying to pick him up.

Speaker 1 (52:22):
He's the he's the voice of the four time defending
national champion Oklahoma softball team, and he's in Oklahoma and
the event is in Oklahoma.

Speaker 5 (52:30):
I'm just thinking, you're telling me you're gonna put swimming
pools and so far, but you can't accommodate anything for softball.

Speaker 2 (52:38):
Got it makes perfect sense to me. This is Covino
and rich eron Torres VJ. Husky.

Speaker 1 (52:44):
That one went off the rails. We'll come back, We'll
talk a little football. We'll get back to football. Fox
Sports Radio.
