You know what's funny is that NFL is king hmm.
(00:49):
But my Mets are still in a pennant race. So
there's a part of me. I know you don't want
to hear about it, but I have to say Mets
and Braves are tied exact record with nineteen games to go.
I thought nobody cared to about baseball. On those football
no one cares.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
Get at it.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
You're talking to someone double talking, double talking Dicky.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
Shut up, you're double talking Dicky. A week ago, nobody
cared about baseball. Let's talk about football.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
And I don't blame you. You're super puffed about football,
as am I. But people care about baseball.
Speaker 3 (01:20):
Man.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
Of course, I'm just saying when you're talking to someone
here in Chicago, when we do the show live today,
no one cares about the Cubs, who are out of
the race.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
They care about the Bears because NFL is king.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
But I'm just saying, right now, the wild card situations,
especially in the National League, it's so tight. It's tighter
than your jeans in the two thousands, we're talking. We're
talking Mets and Braves are tied with nineteen to go
and only a game ahead of them in the lost column,
the Padres and the Diamondback. So those four teams have
to think we just need to play better than one
(01:53):
of those other teams. There's four teams.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
It's excited. He's gonna be out. It's excited. Who's outright?
Like it?
Speaker 2 (01:58):
Hey, and don't downplay the fact. Speaking of Chicago, you
don't think the White Sox. I think they're playing Cleveland
this week. You don't think they want to play spoiler.
You don't think they want to step up? They do
maybe want to, No, nobody does. Nobody does. I know
from good source. You know I have friends in the
mlbod you talk to Harold Bains.
Speaker 1 (02:18):
Harold, but you know what.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
He hooks me up with a certain product, he says.
The ladies love it too, but nobody. These are professional athletes. Man,
You're not going out there to be embarrassed, so people
care anyway.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
Hope you enjoyed your weekend. Hope you enjoyed your football.
Big game. Tonight, we're going to talk about it.
Speaker 2 (02:36):
We're going to talk about Tom Brady and what do
we have in common with Tom Brady. We'll tell you
how we have something in common with Tom, believe it
or not. And I want to talk packers as we continue.
Things that make you go hmmm uh, Danny, g I
know you got the phones going, so if you want
to go to the phones, or if you want to
chime in more, Danny, I hate not seeing your face,
but we'll be back to LA tomorrow. Any other observations
because I'm sure you and Brenda all day we're watching
(02:57):
all your NFL as well.
Speaker 4 (02:59):
Yeah, I don't know if I was ready or not
for the anxiety of watching my favorite team play.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
That was one takeaway.
Speaker 4 (03:06):
Yeah, pacing and cursing and punching the floor that part
of the new NFL season.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
I'm not sure I was ready.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
Before I saw you put your son CoA in a
cute little Raiders outfit in a jersey.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
He's got a little Max Crosby jersey. Does he look
at Dad like, what's going on with dath No.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
I made sure to set up a little area for
him with hay Bear on my iPad, and then I'm
in the main living room with the big TV and
the Raiders game.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
So because I think that was the first time. The
first time my kids looked at me like what's wrong
with Dad? Was during a playoff game where they're like,
why is is that pacing and yelling what's going on?
Speaker 4 (03:44):
Something's wrong with Dad? I made sure not to snap
too loud, and there were some good takeaways. There was
some positivity with that Raiders defensive line. That front seven
looks awesome the way we figured it would. Christian Wilkins
was a really good addition with Max Crosby now Alt
and the Chargers oh line. They did a good job
(04:05):
pretty much protecting Herbert, although Herbert didn't have a good
day because the Raiders defense, at least their pass defense
really really good. Their run defense something to be uh,
some improvement desired there.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
But so you're saying your run defense is a little suspect,
so good thing again, good thing you're playing the Ravens
next week in the fourth quarter, if you want to
put a positive spin on it, like you exposed these
problems early, so you know what to work well.
Speaker 4 (04:30):
Also, also the Raiders and Minshew had some turnovers which stunk,
but that kept the defense out there too long. In
the fourth quarter, they started to have some breaks in
that run defense and the Chargers and Dobbins went off
there at the end of the game, and then you
saw the two teams get into it in the end
zone with that little what do you call it, a scrum,
(04:51):
little tussle that was fun to watch as a Raider
slash Charger, you know, viewer. And in the stands there
you saw it was sixty f five percent Raider fans,
So good showing here at the home away from home.
But if Minshew can you know, limit those turnovers, get
in sync with his receivers and get some points on
the board, then that can really compliment that defense.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
Now, I don't want to be the old guy that
sounds like a hater my loan. Did you see Donald
Trump was not a fan of the kickoff, it's ruining
the game?
Speaker 1 (05:24):
He wrote something like that.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
Yeah, I heard Mike Tarico after the game less side
who I'm a big fan of Mike Trico on NBC.
He made a snide comment about would have been nice
to see the Rams get the ball in overtime?
Speaker 1 (05:34):
Are we still unsatisfied with overtime? I agreed with them, Are.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
We still unsatisfied? That we had this great game? And
Lion scored on their possessions? So Rams didn't even get
a chance for fet and the Lions were probably pumped
about it. But as a as a guy who's watching
a good football game, I felt a little cheat and
I agreed with him on Matt.
Speaker 1 (05:52):
I mean I've been on the other side of that,
like last year. The line, Yeah, it goes soothways, You're right, Yeah, I.
Speaker 5 (05:56):
Mean game to the Seahawks without getting the touch the
ball in overtime too, But I think at this point,
I think we it's just it's what the NFL is
at this point.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
They just they can't. They can't keep going these long overtimes.
It's something they've just Yeah, you got to be happy
with that.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
In overtime, it looked like your team was just like,
as they point out on the broadcast, the Rams are
just on their heels, and you guys were just run.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
You could have ran that.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
You could have ran that ball five hundred yards and
they would have just kept getting first down, first down,
first down.
Speaker 5 (06:26):
So that Georgia tech a coach, said run the ball.
That's exactly what the ryans at the end of that.
They just kept shoving it down the throats. It was
very As a fan, I would have said, it's very
satisfying to watch. I think it's even just a fan
of football, like I stat this is the least amount
of passing yards in Week one of the NFL in
(06:47):
about I would say, let's see here, one hundred and
eighty seven pass net passing yards in Week one.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
That is the lowest since tooth. No. No, I think
it's the lowest since two thousand.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised because I'll be honest, I
was looking at some of the stats and I was like,
wait a minute, there's I think did one guy throw
for three hundred yards? Not even did anyone? I think
Tua was the only guy that threw for over three
hundred yards threw Yeah.
Speaker 5 (07:16):
That's that's a passing yard average, mind you. I think uh,
Anthony Richardson had some bombs.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
He threw a few boys, but it was it was
wild to see that. You're right, they weren't a lot
of passing yards, a lot of running and uh, by
your Lions, they they look like they're going to be
great again. That was a really great game for you're
you're a Lions fan, so I'm sure you were, and
I'm as a guy just on a plane watching this.
The last quarter was was intense. It was it was
(07:45):
a great rivalry.
Speaker 1 (07:46):
Can't even incorporate around Saint.
Speaker 5 (07:48):
Brown a lot and the Rams hit put him in
a box for that entire game pretty much. It was
it was kind of if you got it, if you're
saying Brown, you could kind of tell he was getting
frustrated a little bit. But that's why they've they've you know,
been trying to work in Jamison Williams, and he went
off last night too. He had an one hundred and
thirty yards the long bomb touchdown from Jared Goff. He
was he's kind of something refreshing considering they've been trying
(08:10):
to work in Jared Goffer. Really, I mean Jamison Williams
for a really long time.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
Now.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
I heard in Dan Buyer's update and if Dan wants
to jump on, we were saying Jordan Love he likely
will not play, but he's not, you know, not being
ruled out. The initial reports were that I read yeah,
but then again, who knows what you know?
Speaker 1 (08:31):
It could believe it's three to six weeks.
Speaker 6 (08:32):
It very well could be. It very well could be,
but the Packers just aren't willing to go that far.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
Right now, here's a.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
Guy that just on a huge contract you don't want
to and there's a long season ahead. But do you
think there's any narrative of let's see how things go
next week? Because the Bears play the Texans. The Bucks
are playing the lines like if if teams in their
division lose. I know you're not scoreboard watching, and a
(08:59):
week too, but do you think depending on how the
rest of the division in the NFC does determines how
quickly they try to rush back Jordan Love.
Speaker 1 (09:08):
Where's that just not He'll just come back when he's ready.
I don't.
Speaker 6 (09:11):
I think that the premise of what you're saying early
on in the season and where Green Bay is may
not have as much of effect. They want to make
sure that they're fine for the latter part of the year,
So I don't think that they would rush him back
by any means. It's just surprising to me on how
they were ill prepared in this scenario. They brought back
(09:32):
Sean Clifford, who had been with the team, but that
was one of the surprises in training camp. As Green
Bay made that trade with Tennessee for Malik Willis, you
never think that you're going to need him in week
two of a season, but here we are, and now
he may be forced to start. And Malik Willis hasn't
done anything in an NFL regular season game that would
make you think that he is ready to step into
any shoes and help an offense, you know, not even
(09:54):
be legitimate, but just you know, at fifty percent if
you will.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
So that's the concern.
Speaker 6 (09:59):
If I'm Packers fan, because they're winnable games here and
you don't want to lose those winnable games. But it's
a long, long season, guys, And the clarification in the
three to six weeks. Matt Lafleur did say today that
he's not a candidate for IR. So Pooka Nakula, who
went on IR today is going to miss at least
the next four games. Could be back for the Rams
after that. But that does tell you that Green Bay
(10:19):
feels that, Okay, maybe Love can be back a little
bit sooner if they're not considering putting him on short
term IR, which would have him out for four games.
Speaker 2 (10:27):
I mean, Malik Willis last night, I just found it
not funny is the wrong word. But here he is
being told, hey, come in for the last hell Mary,
play the game, Like what an odd spot to just
be like, dude, you're in like that. That's an interesting
spot to come in and it's sort of an unfortunate
play for Jordan Love to get hurt on, you know,
the equivalent to let's be honest, like a hail Mary
(10:49):
trying to make something happen. That's not when you want
to get hurt. But if you look at the Packers'
next four games. If you wanted a kavinas a month. Okay,
let's call it cults, okay, And that's something we haven't
mentioned yet. Anthony Richardson and CJ. Stroud both look like yo,
those guys are legit and that division is gonna be
fun to watch those.
Speaker 1 (11:10):
Did you see that long bomb from Richardson?
Speaker 2 (11:12):
Dude, old same that was such a great one and
as good as Anthony Richardson looks, CJ. Stroud still pulled
it out, which was that was the coolest part about it, Like, wow, man,
what a bad those are two young studs.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
Yeah. CJ.
Speaker 6 (11:23):
Stroud, by the way, we know has a cannon and
hint Nico Collins for a big play here and there.
Threw for two hundred and thirty four yards on twenty
four completions. Anthony Richardson threw for two hundred and twelve yards.
I know it seems like he threw for more, but
he only completed nine passes.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
I know.
Speaker 6 (11:39):
He that's impressive average, yeah, average more than twenty five
yards per completion yesterday. That by the way, not sustainable,
but that's what he did yesterday.
Speaker 1 (11:47):
I saw that with some water receivers too.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
If you look at the like fantasy leaders this week,
not a lot of receptions unless you were Cooper Cup.
But if you look at the Packers and who they're
playing to, playing the Cults then the Titans, that that's
a winnable game. You got to decide, what do you
think Malik Willis is pop You know it's capable of
if he had to.
Speaker 1 (12:04):
Then they play Vikings in the rams.
Speaker 2 (12:06):
So it's again it's it's so hard to tell this
early on, but I don't know if the Packers want
to pull a twenty twenty three where they start out
weak and everyone, you know, remember last year it was
just all second half. A lot of people thought the
Packers were just going to jump out quick. They're own
one with an injured quarterback, not what they wanted. So
these were our biggest takeaways of Week one. And look,
(12:29):
I know Rich is super pumped to watch the game
tonight as a forty nine Ers fan.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
So there's still lots to get to.
Speaker 2 (12:34):
But wrapping it up with your phone calls at eight
seven seven ninety nine on Fox, your phone calls and
feedback eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox, and of
course whatever we don't get to at Covino and Rich
on social media at Covino and Rich, I think too,
when you see what happens to love, it goes to
show you the I mean, I don't know if it's
just all bs, but when Tomlin says that he's just
(12:58):
as confident in Fields as he will in Wilson, the
importance of having someone you truly believe in behind you,
you know, so maybe we're going to see a lot
more people stepping up in a backup role. Malik Willis,
here's your chance, buddy boy, uh any feedback, We'll take
it at eight seven, seven, nine to nine on Fox Now.
Speaker 1 (13:21):
I would like to turn the pat for a second.
Speaker 2 (13:23):
If that's cool, get ahead to a guy Bob Seeger
style or Metallica style, like a Metallica style for you.
Speaker 1 (13:28):
I like it, by the way.
Speaker 2 (13:29):
I know, yeah, I know you thought there was a
chance that they would do the Super Bowl halftime show.
But you know, before we get to Tom Brady, let
me bring that up because listen, I'm not disliking Kendrick Lamar.
I am just surprised because it doesn't pass the mom test.
And what I mean by the mom test is who
would my mom want to sleep with no, I'm kidding.
Speaker 1 (13:50):
I'm kidding.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
The mom test is your mom wants to see what
Jim Plunkett Joe thigh. I don't think Joe Jim Plunkett
is doing the halftime. It should be your sister test,
not your mom test. Yeah, yeah, weird test. Your mom
would say someone weird like Tom Selleck and his mustache. Yeah, Ritchie,
(14:12):
I like Travis Kelsey's mustache.
Speaker 1 (14:13):
It looks like Tom Seller.
Speaker 2 (14:15):
No. But the mom test is if you're asking your mom,
do you know blank?
Speaker 1 (14:23):
If they don't know.
Speaker 2 (14:24):
And your mom's sixty seventy years old, I don't think
they should do halftime. If I asked my mom, Hey, mom,
you know who Rihanna is? Of course, Mom, you know
who uh Katy Perry is? Uh yeah, Ritchie, I know
Katy Perry.
Speaker 1 (14:38):
Mom.
Speaker 2 (14:38):
You know Lady Gaga, you know Maroon five, you know
you to Taylor Swift, you know, yeah, you know. I
think they she owes her they Oh.
Speaker 7 (14:44):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (14:45):
They have something going on together. I'm surprised she's not
there there. Like we just mentioned Metallica, there's there's there's
so many options and there's nothing against I have a
teenage daughter I see how these kids love how I
was so into that drama with Drake. I mean, we
got so much great music out of it, but great
music doesn't mean hits, and people who are tuning in
(15:07):
for the super Bowl want to hear the hits. And
there was rumors of Miley Cyrus and I think we're
all fans of her. She's fantastic.
Speaker 1 (15:14):
There were rumors of.
Speaker 2 (15:14):
Lil Wayne, and I just know Master said that they
got to get Lil Wayne involved if they want to
make it really pop for this halftime show. And I
think Kendrick Lamar would be open to that. I think
he has to do it because for as great as
he is, and no one's going to take away how
great he is and how he dominated Drake in the
past year. But when it comes to familiarity, no one's
(15:36):
going to be singing along to those songs. Young people maybe,
but you got to realize this. The super Bowl is
bigger than that. Kendrick Lamar is and I'm let me
let me explain before you jump at me.
Speaker 1 (15:50):
He's a social media I'm not saying.
Speaker 7 (15:53):
Oh.
Speaker 1 (15:56):
See, you not to jump at me. Let me explain.
Kendrick mar is a social media artist.
Speaker 2 (16:01):
In that he is enormously popular among your kids, the
youth gen Z twenties teens. Kendrick Lamar is not played
on mainstream pop radio. And I know that because besides
dominating Fox Sports Camino every day, I'm on Serious XM
on the pop channels. You know, we all the Kiss
(16:23):
FM stations, Kiss FM and LA Chicago, New York. The
mainstream stations may have played one or two Kendrick l
Mar songs. Ever, that's not his lane. I pose this
question which as he is. I know he's been doing
it a long time, Danny G. This isn't to undermine him.
I'm actually a big fan, dude. I go out of
my way to get tickets to his shows. Right, so,
(16:46):
I've seen the hype. I believe the hype. I want
to make that point. But how many people casual friends
of yours could sing along to? How many songs do
you think they know? I bet you they can't name two,
dany G. My average person, not the music lover, the
average person. Yeah, I'm gold you said, because Danny G,
you're a music or a music lover and you like
hip hop. I know Kendrick Lamar. You know Kendrick Gamar.
(17:07):
We work in radio and broadcasting. You keep your ear
to the streets. You have step kids that are twenty something.
You gotta keep that in mind. It's the mom test.
Think of the last ten Super Bowl halftime shows. Would
your mom know them? Danny?
Speaker 1 (17:21):
Yes? Would you know Kendrick Lamar? I say no.
Speaker 4 (17:24):
But as far as hit factor, he had a smash
hit with Taylor Swift bad Blood.
Speaker 1 (17:29):
That is true.
Speaker 2 (17:30):
Let's open it up eight seven seven ninety nine, Oh Fox.
I was very surprised to hear this. I don't see
him as a mainstream guy like that. Again, is he popular? Absolutely?
Do I love his stuff? Absolutely? Are we prisoner of
the moment with the day like us? And all the
stuff he came out with recently? Probably Danny g to
put in perspective, built a career in hip hop.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
Of course he's gonna defend Kendrick Lamar.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
He loves and lives hip hop, and again, nothing I
could say could take away from his career and how
great he is.
Speaker 1 (18:03):
But I was surprised to hear it. I really was.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
Hey, Danny, I just texted you my mom's number. See
if you can get her on the phone. Hey, I
already got your mom's No.
Speaker 4 (18:12):
Actually, she's in the my contacts already Rich from the
last time she see.
Speaker 2 (18:18):
If my mom answers, I'll tell her to answer. And
I want to list the last ten Super Bowl halftime
shows and see if I could prove my point live on.
Speaker 1 (18:24):
The air and again. But I don't think this is
about your mom's age. Oh it's always about my mom.
Speaker 4 (18:29):
Oh no, no, because you got it. Like perfet Off
the air was mentioned when we were talking about Kendrick Lamar.
He was saying, you got to remember the age of
Kendrick Lamar fans right now. They're not all kids. He's
not just a viral sensation.
Speaker 1 (18:44):
Rich.
Speaker 4 (18:44):
This guy's been putting out hits. Now, those are the
people that throw money after guys like you and me.
Speaker 5 (18:50):
We have to remember, as much as millennials have become
a punching bag, they are in their upper thirties and
forties now, like they are your core audience for sports games.
Now time has moved on. Gen Z are the kids
like and millennials grew up with Kendrick Lamar. To Day's point,
I'm not much. I love music, but I know very
(19:12):
little about rap, and I I know Kendrick Lamar.
Speaker 2 (19:16):
I think yeah, because Dan, let me make this last point,
fire bumping Kendrick Lamar in the parking brod here.
Speaker 1 (19:25):
People know that's not the question.
Speaker 2 (19:26):
Everybody knows the name, everybody knows the drama from the
past year, especially right and all the great music we got.
Speaker 1 (19:31):
People.
Speaker 2 (19:32):
The average idiot with a beer helmet on with his
face painted ready for football couldn't sing you to Kendrick
Lamar songs if they were right in front of his face,
if it was a karaoke machine, he wouldn't even know
how to sing it.
Speaker 1 (19:46):
He wouldn't know it. I give you more than two.
Speaker 4 (19:48):
Songs, No way you can sing not like us. And
he had Humble, all the Stars Pride. You know, he
had the hit with Taylor Swift, as I mentioned, Swimming Pools,
Money Trees. He's had a slew of hits. I mean,
whether you guys are Danny respect I'm not some super
(20:09):
fan of him.
Speaker 1 (20:09):
By the way. I like him.
Speaker 4 (20:11):
He's a great rapper, but it's not like I have
a Kendrick Lamar tattoo.
Speaker 6 (20:15):
I think that the argument used to be of why
is this person the artist? In terms of I don't
like their music? Right, it's and I think what Danny's arguing,
which I think proves your point, Stephen Rich, is that
he's trying to convince you that you know all these
songs when it's other artists that you know their song
You're like, I don't like those songs.
Speaker 1 (20:33):
I know what they are.
Speaker 6 (20:35):
And that's the popularity portion of it, right, Like Danny's
trying to tell you that you may know these songs,
but when you would not want a previous artist, it
would be like, well, I don't like any of that
that music, that's you know that song?
Speaker 2 (20:47):
Yeah, you might say a grown man that's a sports
fan might say, yeah, I don't like Miley Cyrus, but
I guarantee you.
Speaker 1 (20:53):
Know ten of her songs. Sure, Yeah. I don't think
that's the case with Kendrick Lamar. That's the truth. I'm
not a big Tale Swift fan at all.
Speaker 2 (21:01):
And recently we went over it and you don't do
twenty songs over twenty Taylor Swift songs. And I don't
even like her because I went song by song with him,
because I took my daughter to some Taylor Swift event
and I go, Yo, you'd be amazed how many songs
you know?
Speaker 1 (21:14):
I was like, what do I know? Maybe like five.
I'm like, no, you know twenty.
Speaker 2 (21:16):
So I love to do that test and see how
many Kendrick Lamar songs the average idiot really knows.
Speaker 4 (21:21):
But the money demo is eighteen to thirty four. And
you're telling me that the.
Speaker 2 (21:26):
Money no having money demo yea, and whatever super Bowl
sponsors are there, they're not spending money.
Speaker 4 (21:34):
That's the demo most corporations are going after is eighteen
to thirty four, just like broadcasters.
Speaker 1 (21:40):
Well, look that's the number one demo. This is just my.
Speaker 4 (21:43):
Stuper But Rich is saying they can't name two songs
from him. That's the part I don't agree with.
Speaker 1 (21:49):
Man, we're gonna don't do the test.
Speaker 5 (21:51):
You want to try my mom real part time show.
I just we got to remember we put the weekend
on the Super bowlftime show. I don't think people a
lot of people knew a lot about the weekend.
Speaker 1 (21:58):
I think I knew more of out the weekend one
billion percent.
Speaker 2 (22:03):
I can't feel my face like a number one song
at the time, that name another one?
Speaker 1 (22:07):
Then Rich, name another weekend hit. It's a good question,
but off the top of my head, I'm like I
heard him you know them. Yeah, I just but I
feel the same thing. And Buyer's right.
Speaker 4 (22:17):
Maybe you don't know the songs by name, but once
he's out there performing with guys like a little Wayne,
and if other stars join him on stage, then it's
going to be about his performance.
Speaker 1 (22:26):
How was the performance? Hey?
Speaker 2 (22:27):
You know what, I don't want to be the show
that hates something. So I'm hoping he slays. I hope
he for those people that do doubt it and and
people that question, I'm just questioning it, right, I hope
he proves me wrong, proves everybody wrong, and I hope
everyone like Rich's mom who doesn't know him, goes away
like as a fan.
Speaker 1 (22:43):
I mean, that's great.
Speaker 2 (22:44):
That's why I just googled the Weekend and just because
I stumped myself there like a dope.
Speaker 1 (22:51):
Blinding lights starboy the Hills.
Speaker 2 (22:53):
I mean, one of the girls, there's a there's a
ton of them earned it like you would. You would
know the Weekend and that was arguably one of the
lighter halftime shows, like ooh did he know?
Speaker 6 (23:04):
It was just we did this with Usher last year,
and I feel like Usher had more of the catalog.
Speaker 1 (23:10):
You can name fifteen Usher songs at that time.
Speaker 6 (23:12):
But yeah, we're like, what songs is usher going to
actually play?
Speaker 2 (23:15):
It's fun to speculate. Again, I don't want to be
like Tom Brady. We're gonna talk about Tom Brady in
a few minutes. You know, this guy's just trying to
be a broadcaster. He's got a new job. He's doing
his thing. You should see the opinions and the feedback
that you read it. Everybody's so quick to hate on him.
I don't want to be that guy here, and it
(23:35):
doesn't matter what I say anyway, because Kendrick Lamar's the man.
But my first reaction was that it was, oh, I
was surprised by that. You want to get a typical
middle aged guy. Yeah, might hit us up in Cincinnati. Okay,
I'm forty five, my wife is forty and we can't
name one Kendrick Lamar song. And I follow current music
(23:57):
if you don't because it's not a mainstream Yeah, what's
the most mainstream event of the year, the super Bowl?
Speaker 1 (24:02):
Super Bowl?
Speaker 2 (24:02):
That's why I was confused by it. So there's no
hate and there's no I want to make it clear,
no questioning that he's popular and that he's the top
rapper in the game.
Speaker 1 (24:12):
Let's make that clear point. Yeah, let's make that clear.
Speaker 4 (24:14):
With all due respect, you're not following current music if
you don't know, not like us, not like that.
Speaker 1 (24:20):
Not like us.
Speaker 2 (24:21):
But I'm saying besides that, because that's an anthem. Other
than that song. He does not have a catalog of
could I name the last ten Super Bowls? Or so,
does not have the catalog of the Black Eyed Peas, Madonna, Beyonce, Bruno, Mars,
Katy Perry, Coleplay, Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Maroon Five, Shakira,
Jennifer Lopez, The Weekend, Dre Snoop em and m Rihanna
(24:43):
Ussher like think we're talking about it. Let's not forget
Prince and Michael Jacks everybody else, right, you know, is
he there? Hey? Maybe he isn't, Maybe he will be.
And again I'm rooting for that, but I was surprised.
I have to be honest about it. You know what,
We'll take your feedback, We'll take your thoughts. Maybe say
hmm at eight, seven, seven, nine to nine on Fox,
Covini on rech and maybe we'll try to We'll do
(25:04):

leave for a loon. It's her birthday. Let my mom
enjoy your birthday. Happy birthday, Mom. Now we'll talk old
Tom Brady.

Speaker 1 (27:00):
Who the heck is this? What in the hell is this? Grandpa?
That's Kendrick Lamar.
Speaker 2 (27:06):
Here's the thing too. Keep in mind, Rich and I
grew up on nineties hip hop. Always keep our ear
open to music. We're music fans. I was all about
the recent drama in the back and forth dis tracks
with Kendrick and Drake most recently. Like I said, I
(27:26):
went to Camp Flognaw to watch Tyler the Creator and
Kendrick Lamar last year. So I'm not hating. I went
on my way to get those tickets. Not hating, but
I realize and you.
Speaker 1 (27:38):
Have a teenage daughter, so you're even more in the
lock's obsessed with this stuff. Okay?
Speaker 2 (27:42):
Is Fox Sports Radio Covino and Rinch. We still got
to talk about Tom Brady, Get you involved. Danny G's
on the phones at eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox.
Dan Byer's got your updates. Per fetis here. Our buddy
Steve Styles is here in Chicago with us. We're live
from Chicago and we're talking about the big announcement yesterday.
Speaker 1 (27:59):
Of course it was great, great football. We talked about it.
Speaker 2 (28:02):
If you missed it, check out our podcast Covino and
Rich if you still want to chime in on that
at Covino and Rich on social media. But before we
get to Brady, I was surprised by the Kendrick Lamar
announcement for Super Bowl halftime. And here's why not, Because
I'm the beacon of hip hop knowledge and be all
and off what's right and what's wrong. But what I
(28:24):
do know is that the country is a big place.
And we've been broadcasting nationally for over twenty years now,
Covino and Rich, We've met people from all over the country,
all kinds of people, all walks a lot, And I'll
tell you what, from first tand knowledge, there's a lot
of root and tootin dudes out there that sure as
hell don't know more than two songs from Kendrick Lamar
(28:45):
and their big time NFL fans. Yeah, you think they
know those songs, I don't think so. And if they
don't know those songs, I don't think their wives know
those songs. Maybe their kids know those songs. But you're
really you're really avoiding a mainstream opportunity. Now, you could
flip it and say, well, that's really cool. It's cool
to see them give in this opportunity to a Kendrick
(29:06):
Lamar because he should be more of a mainstream artist,
because he's that good enough talented. That's fine, but you're
gonna get backlash because there's gonna be a lot of
people that don't know him on a mainstream.
Speaker 1 (29:15):
Level like that.
Speaker 2 (29:15):
I think that if you go any genre, in my opinion,
if you go any genre and the artist has a
completely crossover to the mainstream, it's not a super Bowl
halftime act until they really established, like Danny g I'm
not saying it because it's hip hop.
Speaker 1 (29:33):
I like hip hop.
Speaker 2 (29:34):
I'm just saying you could say the same if you said, hey,
rich Luke Bryan's doing it, or you know Morgan Wallen,
where you said, hey you, Robbie, Lincoln Park is back. Yeah,
what if you said, oh, dude, Shine Down's gonna do it,
I'd say I'd say, you know what, I would say
that Park Lincoln Park. Metallica bands like that, why you
know best example boy Zue.
Speaker 4 (29:53):
Singer can't do it right now? Covina, Oh why not
because of the controversy.
Speaker 1 (29:57):
Oh no, she's great.
Speaker 2 (29:58):
I'm enjoying Emily Armstrong Lincoln Park a new single. It's possible, right,
But the argument always is what about Metallica? And I
always say, how do you deny Metallica's greatness? But they
are a little too rock for a mainstream stage, like
and you know what, the Super Bowl I agree with you,
I do, and a great yeah, it's right.
Speaker 1 (30:20):
So for as many people that.
Speaker 4 (30:21):
Want metallic uh see, I don't agree with that because
I've seen them live once and they were amazing live.
Speaker 1 (30:30):
I think it's all about the performance if they are.
Speaker 2 (30:34):
I know you you for years now, Danny, and you
know a ton about music, and you're really well versed.
And I compliment you. You're one of the most knowledgeable music
friends I have. And I think you're letting it jade
your your what you're seeing and hearing.
Speaker 4 (30:47):
No, I think if people don't know these artists that
we are passionate about them, we need to teach them
about these artists.
Speaker 2 (30:52):
You know, there's some truth to that that that's the
uh well you should know effect, right, Like what is easy?
Speaker 1 (30:59):
Well you maybe you should know.
Speaker 2 (31:00):
It's like you ever see this is our our MTV
whoever's hosting the MTV Video Music Awards, Right, You're like,
who the hell is that?
Speaker 1 (31:07):
That's their way of saying, well, then you should know
this person. Yeah, And if if I'm not mistakeous Megan A.
Speaker 2 (31:11):
Stallionspecially here, no one should take pride in and being dumb,
meaning like when the or out of the loop. You
always had that one person there. Oh, I've never seen
one episode of Game of Thrones.
Speaker 1 (31:20):
What do you want a cookie?
Speaker 2 (31:21):
What do you want to congratulations because you're so out
of the loop. Uh damn byer your thoughts, buddy.
Speaker 6 (31:26):
Yeah, I just want to I want to get on
on this because there's two things. Number One, assists from
Ryan Berschinger. Ryan made the point of the respect that
Kendrick Lamar has. Ryan one of our top producers here
at Fox Sports.
Speaker 1 (31:37):
Radio from from who jay Z that makes these dicisions.
Speaker 6 (31:40):
That's the point that I was going to say was
that it's the old saying of he's your favorite rapper's
favorite rapper. That's what I think you could say about
Kendrick Lament's a good point, right, And when you look
back at the super Bowl halftime show that you had
in LA, he was fifth of the five people that appeared.
Like if you for popularity reasons, Dre Snoop Eminem, and
(32:04):
fifty Cent would all be bigger draws at a super
Bowl than Kendrick Lamar was when he appeared. Now, he
may have gotten tons of love from that generation, but
there's when you want to talk about the names and
the people, and like, that's what we're talking about. In
that group of people, I would say generally he was
number five in terms of popularity at a super Bowl
(32:25):
just three years ago. Now we're putting him number one.
Speaker 1 (32:28):
Like that.
Speaker 2 (32:28):
People who live in third world countries would recognize Snoop
Dogg in a second.
Speaker 1 (32:33):
Yeah. But you know what, here's an interesting thought.
Speaker 2 (32:36):
If you ask the one hundred and six players that
are playing in Super Bowl fifty whatever in New Orleans,
I bet you this is one of the more popular acts.
I bet you all the players because they're young dudes
in the loop.
Speaker 1 (32:50):
You think they cared about You think they cared about
the who you know? Like, no, not at all.
Speaker 2 (32:54):
But especially if you watch Hard Knocks when they do
the talent shows and they have these like you know,
these white dudes dot appen or whatever, you'll never feel
older because you don't know the words you're watching. It's like, man,
everybody knows this.
Speaker 1 (33:07):
But me right now.
Speaker 2 (33:08):
But you're also assuming that everybody watching his super Bowl
is like thirty and under.
Speaker 1 (33:12):
That's not the case.
Speaker 2 (33:15):
You know. Let's go rapid fire on the phones. But
defected Bursch in the editing studio, so that he's he
shot me as the type of guy that like listens
like mumfferin Son. So Birsch is a big Turnstile fan,
like he's a big music fan. Not everybody's a big,
big music fan. And I think it's, uh, it's an
interesting one. I'll leave it at that because I am
(33:35):
a fan who we got Danny J.
Speaker 1 (33:37):
When Bursch gets to the parking garage, he puts a
do rag on. You know what, I didn't know the
side of him. He wears adult rag. He's a he's
a different man since he had his carburetor stolen. Let's
go to Sean in Sacktown. What's up Sean?
Speaker 9 (33:54):
Yeah, my graduate old tell alumni man, real quick, y'all
are probably parted out more music. And I know in
the last twenty years y'all are some serious xem pros
and local New York the jockeys all that. But I
got a vouch from my guy Danny G. And here's
the reason why. Man, that drama proved that he has
pull online and all of those Drake fans are going
(34:14):
to be watching how to Hate all those other rappers
that my man the Update anchor just named. Those are
all guys affiliated with Kendrick Lamar, So the buzz that
he's gonna get going in.
Speaker 2 (34:24):
Them, he's affiliated with them. Look, I'm not hating. Look
the same way we broughtup Lincoln Park. Right, there's so
many people that are against the new lead singer. My
advice to them is be open to it. And I
want to be consistent, and I'll say, even if you're
on the fence like we are about Kendrick Lamar or
about this performance, as you said, we should all be
open to it. Of course, I'm just surprised by it,
(34:47):
but I think the feeling and sentiment I want you
to get from the Cavino and Richho here is yeah,
we're surprised, but be open to it. You don't have
to hate everything. And that's what I'm getting sick of,
every hate and everything.
Speaker 4 (34:59):
You guys will go to a different part of the country.
Andrew in Texas, Andrew Drew.
Speaker 3 (35:04):
Hey, Yeah, my thing was my kids roll over the
Kendrick Lamar thing. They told me about it, they were excited.
I stopped really caring about it when they were in
Detroit and they had nobody from Motown. So you know,
figure it out. Super Bowl, you're in Detroit and no Motown.
I mean it was the Rolling Stones, which was awesome,
but no Motown.
Speaker 2 (35:24):
Yeah, that seemed like an opportunity missed. I agree with you, Well,
you know what I look at the time, we got
to go to Dan for an update. But let's push
the Tom Brady conversation till tomorrow and we'll take the
rest of your feedback on this Kendrick Lamar halftime show
because again it's relevant. It makes sense in that regard
made a saint. But I told you though I always
do the hole, would your mom know who it is?
(35:45):
And I just feel like of all the Super Bowl
halftime shows that we mentioned, like I said, I was
up to my mom the four season, the four season,
Miguel the four Seasons, or Steve Tyrell would perform Dan
Buyer for an update.
Speaker 6 (35:56):
John Harbaugh, Raven's head coach, did not give a reason
why Lamar Jackson miss practice today, says you'll find out
Wednesday injury report comes out then, but said a variety
of players missed the practice today for personal and injury reasons.
Packers head coach Matt Lafleur said they wouldn't rule out
quarterback Jordan Love for week two against the Colts. They
aren't going to put him on IR, but if he
(36:16):
can't go, Sunday says, if he can't protect himself, Malik
Willis would start for Green Bay in that spot. Bill's
quarterback Josh Allen full participant in practice today. He's good
to go against the Dolphins on Thursday in Week two
despite a hand injury. Again a full participant in practice today.
Rams are placing wide receiver Pookin Nakoua on short term
IR because of the PCL injury in his knee, so
he'll miss at least the next four games of the season.
(36:38):
Bucks All Pro safety and Twine Winfield Junior is going
to miss time with foot and ankle injuries. Browns quarterback
Deshaun Watson facing another civil suit from a woman who
claims he sexually assaulted her on a date in twenty twenty.
Browns are sounding free age at wide receiver Cadarius Tony
and I got to end with this.
Speaker 1 (36:53):
This was Titan, said coach.
Speaker 6 (36:54):
Brian Callahan, talking about their loss to the Bears yesterday
and watching Chicago's defense put up two defensive touchdowns in
the second half. This is what Callahan had to say.
Speaker 9 (37:04):
It was situational.
Speaker 7 (37:05):
I just we were playing so good on defense that
it's almost as if, I mean, if we just punted
it on first and ten every time, we might have
won the game the way.
Speaker 1 (37:12):
Of the way that you know, we gave it away.
So ouch, will levis back to you guys?
Speaker 2 (37:18):
Oh, thank dB byer. Hey, we'll take everybody's phone call.

remember on tomorrow's show, maybe some trivia, some giveaway, some
showtime mahomesa, maybe mahomes We're gonna talk Tom Brady for sure.
He's getting a lot of hate about, you know, his
first day on the job, and that's what we're trying
not to do. We're not hating on the Kendrick Lamart decision,
but we're questioning it. Let's do phones real quickly. I
(40:29):
just wanted to point out I did not think this
is going to be as big, but you know what, the.
Speaker 1 (40:34):
Phones are NonStop. So let's go rapid fire.
Speaker 4 (40:38):
And Rich, I was just going to say, right before
that update, I was going to tell you your mom's
number went to voicemail, so just you know, she.
Speaker 2 (40:45):
Doesn't want to get involved controversial for Yeah, yeah's team Drake. No,
maybe maybe we'll ask her tomorrow. All right, let's go
next that BBL Drizzy, Where were going?
Speaker 1 (40:55):
The Olympia? Washington State? Emmitt, what's up? Emmett?
Speaker 11 (41:00):
Cavina, Rich Danny G. Prefet Dan Byer, what's up guys? Now,
I don't you know getting we're getting all time and
so if I'll make it quick, but I think I'm
not really surprised at all that they say Kendrick Lamar.
And here's why. If you were on TikTok or Instagram,
literally every other video back in May was sting dancing,
like hearing that beat of not like us. So I
think it's kind of just forced into everybody's heads. And
(41:23):
to comment on, oh, you can't name more than two
Kendrick songs, and I mean, yeah, maybe be an age thing.
But my argument for that would be if I were
to call my grandma right now and be like, hey, Grandma,
name two Rihanna songs. I don't think she's doing it
so but I think.
Speaker 2 (41:35):
It'll be recognition though I think she might, you know,
a mainstream song. Yeah, we got next, Danny Sewan and Boise.
Speaker 1 (41:43):
Rihanna has hit after hit after him. That's true. What's up, Joe?
Speaker 11 (41:47):
What's up?
Speaker 7 (41:47):
Guys?
Speaker 1 (41:48):
Take a quick question.
Speaker 11 (41:49):
With all this uh Drake and Kendrick Lamar beef, do
you guys think Drake would actually be a better fit
because I think Drake has a lot more hit.
Speaker 2 (41:57):
Drake has more mainstream, but I think he's not as
cool as Kendrick are in the eyes of the younger demo.
Speaker 1 (42:01):
Bam, he said, one more. Who we got Danny, Bob
and Queen's Yo Queens New York. Let's go Mets. What's up? Man?
Speaker 3 (42:09):
Hey, what's up? Well, let's go Yank.
Speaker 1 (42:11):
Okay, what's up?
Speaker 4 (42:13):
I'm sorry, quickly buddy, twenty seconds.
Speaker 2 (42:16):
Oh yes, okay, here we go.
Speaker 3 (42:18):
I love cancer, good mob.
Speaker 11 (42:20):
But little this is long as it's little Wayne Land,
and he's been them in the place, the place for
several years.
Speaker 1 (42:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (42:28):
Football, So that's why I thought it might be waying.
But maybe he comes out with Kendrick.
Speaker 1 (42:31):
Who knows. Hey, maybe we'll continue this tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (42:33):
