I have a thought on that most guys like him
come to the Mets especially and stink it up, and
he did the exact opposite, you know, not to make
it all about the Mets, but we've talked about how
very few times you could think of a guy that

came to your team and was best, yeah, as a
guy in your team, Like I can't think of a
guy that came to the Mets and those were his
best years, possibly other than Lindor. Now the final call
of the game. I bring this up only because Cavino
and I've joked about how broadcasters have one in their pocket.
What am I going to say if it's a no hitter?

That when Otani went fifty to fifty, Joe Davis had
that call in his back pocket, right, Gary Cohen had
a call on his back pocket. Because if you remember,
the Mets started the season zero to five, and it
was miserable, and everyone's like, man, this team stinks. They were,
you know, double digit games under five hundred, and then
you remember the Iglesias, Oh my god, got them all

hyped up and Grimace. Listen to the final call from

The ball game is over from all and five to OMG,
what a ride the Mets are going to the postseason

incredible game to clinch with down three nothing, up six

And she has stretched to the necks to close it
out and the Mets winning eight to seven.

Yeah, you could tell he had a plan, but it
still gave me chills as a non Mets fan, you know. So,
I'm just trying to make it clear. It was a great,
great win for them, and I'm curious to see what
happens in this second game of the doubleheader. The second
game that well, actually your Mets. Some of your Mets
were complaining about the schedule. I saw Jadie Martinez hypainting
about it. I mean it's you know, no one wants

to hear. No one wants to hear for everybody else.
People complain, but it is a tight schedule. Here's my thoughts.
I have two things. Then we're gonna We're gonna get
to a lot of football today. We are just fresh
off of one of the top I would say, a
top five baseball game over the last twenty years in
a long time. It was a nail bier. I was
rooting for you on your behalf. I love the back
and forth. You know, I have a problem with you, though.
Before you tell us your thoughts.

Yeah, I think I'm just trying to think of like
over the last twenty years in the two thousands. It's
subjective because you know, if your team did something stellar,
that's not this resonate. I'm talking about games with significance
that went back and forth. I'm thinking Cardinals have had
some of those moments. Cardinals definitely. You know, it has
to be a moment where it was back and forth

and a team came out on top. It can't just
be like, oh, it's my team, they won. This was
a game that was a battle the eighth and ninth
any We're insane.

A battle of significance.

I think you're in a great position, and that's all
you need was to get to this point. Anything can happen. Well,

be proud that they made it as far this week
when they were trailing in the wildcard. If you remember,
I said, this scenario has to happen this weekend or
I'm officially out.

Happened, and I pulled myself back in, and hey, great game.
I quit them two layers and then again, rest of
the show gonna be a ton of NFL. Danny Jude,
you're allowed to be excited about it. Danny's fresh back
from Vegas. He went to the Raiders game yesterday. We'll
talk about the Ravens last night against the Bills. We'll
talk about the Niners fine tuning what they got going on.
The Chiefs pull out a win out here in LA.

We get to a lot of NFL in a little bit.
But two baseball questions. By no means does this put
Otani's MVP in question? But here's my thought. Otani by
far and judge two best players in baseball? What do
you then call a guy like Lindor that the team
would be nothing without him? My definition? No, no, no,

But I'm saying, like, is there like clearly Otanian judge
best players, no debate, no debate. Every year, it's like
he was the most valuable player to the team. Otani's
just the best player. Otanian judge best players in the game.
But if you take Francisco Lindor off the Mets, I
don't know if they're five hundred.

Yeah, he's great man, So like is that he's a
great men?

By definition MVP, but you should not win the MVP.
It almost has to be like a separate category in
your own mind, like who's so significant significant to their packs?

Yeah, honestly, though, Rich watching nine out of ten Dodger
games this season, and it's a long season, the Dodgers
would not be where they are at right now without OTAWNI. Oh,
I'm just sayings oars value because Betts was out for
a couple months, Freeman was out for the health of
his child, and he was slumping after that, and so

without Otani being that glue and that MVP, the Dodgers
would not be the number one seed right now, there's
no chance I do.

Plus Otani's circus numbers, his numbers are just ridiculous.

Sometimes you there's a lot of great people at the
same time. I'm sure if you look back through history,
there were people that were like, well, great, but there
was just someone that was just a little bit more great.

But look at the NBA, look at the at the
NBA spot how many superstars did Michael Jordan prevent exactly
from winning? Barkley Sewing, Malone, Ewing, Reggie Miller.

And I think with Lindor, if show Hail Toddy didn't exist,
than doors your every police.

But think about it in politics. I've said this before, not.

Just if Mary Lopez wasn't just slaying it as a
whole guy, I'd be the guy would be the host.
Has more gigs than I should have than anybody. Take
him out of the equation. I'm one of the coolest
guys going. I dances with his daughter on TikTok. Right,
you get it outside your inside, he'd be doing ever.

You'd see me free sided every fight.

I said recently that you could see that in the
world of politics, not to get political when you have
a vice presidential debate tomorrow night. I think four losing
presidential candidates would have won this election. Al Gore, John Kerry,
John McCain, Mitt Romney. All four of those losers would
have beat I think Trump, per Kamala, I really do so.

Spot makes a great point. Sometimes it's not how great
you are, it's you know, someone else being great. We
talk about it when you get drunk or act the
fool at an event. As long as you're not the
most drunk fool, people will forget you might have been
drunk at your holiday Christmas party. But if some guy
made an ass of himself, people forget that you had
won too many.

the Brewers are a fast, great ball club. But if
you're the Mets, don't you think you'd rather go to
Milwaukee than go three thousand miles to San Diego to
play the hot red hot Padres. I completely agree with you,
and I agree with Rich it's fat. I mean, listener
in the world, did you want to take on the Padres,

who I think is a bigger threat to your Mets.
The Padres almost caught the Dodgers. Yeah, and again take
that long ass flight. Like you said, you want to
lose this game to play the Brewers, But I don't
know how you do that, and they got a lot
of starters in this game.

I was, I say, how do you purposely lose a
game without It's like you know in the NFL when
you're trying to go to getting Oh the ball dropped

You've seen in the NFL when guys are trying to
remember like tank for Tua, remember that was the thing.
When you're trying to get a top pick. There's always
those times where the bad team loses in the final
week and you're like.

Why would you do that?

Because you can't convince a bunch of pros to lose
on purpose. But you don't think the Mets are like, y'all,
let's not win this one.

There was a lot of speculation before the doublehead the
doubleheader started today because who did I see this morning?
I saw your boy Greeny Rich say, do the managers
like talk to each other beforehand and kind of do
like a gentleman's agreement?

Speaker 1 (11:27):
Sam Patrick investigated this. He put on his John Stossel mustache.
Dan Patrick investigated that if could there be a gentleman's agreement,
could the Mets and Braves have quote forfeited one game
each and not even played today? Apparently they couldn't do that.

Yeah, Baseball won alat.

Baseball wouldn't allow that. But with the Mets in and
the Mets really have more incentive. I'm being serious, to
lose this game, take the quick flight to Milwaukee, force
the Braves to go all the way to San Diego
and face the hot Padres. To me, I guess thelast
thing he could do is start a spot starter, rest
some of your starters, because no one's gonna not play.

But yeah, you're not going to expect them to throw
the game. Some people may be thinking, well, they're pro athletes.
They probably think, hey man, whether it's the Padres or
the Brewers, we're going there to win. And that is
partially the mentality. But I even heard one of my greats,
Paul O'Neill, who came to the Yankees and excelled. Yea

Paul O'Neill. He was like, hey man, I played with
the Yankees for years, and I'll tell you I'll be
the first guy to admit I would love if Randy
Johnson was not pitching for the series we played against
them or whatever. You do think about those things, of course,
you know, so you do think about, well, what's the
better matchup, who you want to face, who you don't
want to face, The path, human nature, the path in

the National League.

So the Mets got to want to face the Brewers.

Path in the National League would be for the Mets,

that made me go, let's get out of the way,

It makes you, uh, it does make you think that,
you know, how much of sports, especially the National Football
League is system and circumstance. Because you can't tell me,

inner belief that that was wavered at one point, probably,

but still kept on believing. No, I'm good enough. I
am that guy. You know, you got to give him
a little credit too. And then it makes you wonder
when he was sitting behind brock perty last year. Yeah,
had something happened to Brock, you may you may have
seen this guy with the Niners and we'd be talking about.

Man, should should the forty nineers have kept Sam Donald?

Like Sam Donald is showing that the guy at us see,
the guy we all thought was going to be a composed,

some composure in the NFL might take a few years,
and good for him man again for never giving up

give him some of the credit, but you also mentioned
Brock Party. He makes me go because where are all
the naysayers even approaching the season. So many people doubting

this guy, doubting this guy and you heard about it
all the time, right, Oh, we don't know about Rock
Party and he's shutting everybody up this season, and no
one's there to really take accountability for everybody doubting that guy,
Rock How it props to him? Rock Party has had
his I think he's playing his best football right now,
and he's looking quick in the pocket, looking crispy on

He's crispity crunchity. Props to Brock Party man, he's looking good.
And I only bring that up because you brought him up.
But so many people took like a little bit of
a pride at shabbing at the dude and shooting him
down like he wasn't the real deal. Danny, would you
agree that that narrative is slowly fading that people people
are like, yeah, brock Purty is good.

I think the narrative that Rock Party's a system guy

forgot that. They were saying everybody has amnesia in sports.

Rock Party for like the past two years. Well, Rock
Party to me looks like a pretty good NFL quarterback.

He's showing more of his Uh you know how Brock
played in college where he was not a game manager,
where brockwould use his legs, use his mobility down with
the quickness his accuracy. Brock Party, forty nine ers fan
should be very happy with what you're seeing from him.
And you got de Bo back. He wasn't one hundred
per saying he's just athletic enough. He's no Lamar Jackson
yet there, but what he's doing is productive. Oh so

the positives. It seemed like Aaron Rodgers took a lot
of accountability. But that team is due to diapers, man.
That's how I feel about the Jets. Yeah, as I said,
and I still believe it. There's certain teams that are
just I don't know, it takes that extra push. It
takes a lind'or you know, to really be that leader

don't know if if Aaron Rodgers the guy to make

One observation, and this is where we're okay being all

and seeing the Broncos win a garbage game against the Jets.

But a win is a win.

Nonetheless, it made you realize that some of the teams
you thought might be bad aren't that bad, and the
good teams aren't that good. Where I feel like the
NFL is very balanced right now. Yeah, the Chiefs look
like they're the Chiefs. They look like the defending champions.

But they're barely winning.

You look at the NFC East where people were like, oh,
it's a Cowboys or Eagles division, because that's what it
seems like it's been over the last handful of years.
I've been wrong on a lot this year. One thing
I was not wrong on. Jaden Daniels and the Washington
command look damn good. Everyone looks good. No one really

looks great. Who looks great to you?

a big game, and then Tom Brady's real nice to
him at the end of the game. So it went
like full circle. But it was kind of interesting to
me to see Tom Brady's competitive juices in the pregame
with their old pal Kevin Burkhard If you missed it,

it started with Baker Mayfield talking about how he's different
from Tom Brady.

Take a listen to Baker. The building was a little
bit different with Tom in there. Obviously, playing wise, Tom
was different.

He had everybody dialed in high strung environments, so I
think everybody was pretty stressed out. So they wanted me
to come in be myself, you know, bring the joy
back to football a little bit for guys that weren't
having as much fun.

So Tom Brady couldn't let that go. And you know,
Tom Brady came prepared this week with props and note
cards and stories and response to that take a listen
said quote.

They wanted me to come in, be myself, bring the
joy back to football for guys.

That weren't having as much fun.

It's funny because you've made this environ room for me

I was gonna say I thought stressful was not having
Super Bowl rings. So there was a mindset of a

you feel like, I feel like there's more in there

I didn't think Baker Mayfield said anything that was off

like he had here. He's a different vibe. He's a
different type of quarterback. I know spie and I know bitterness.
There was a little bit of both in there.

By the way, do you know what was the most
passive aggressive thing he said too, I come in with
the mindset of a champion, has to say if I
want to have fun to Disneyland, there's a lot going
on there.

Rich, be quiet. You gotta have the mindset of a chance.
No Baker Baker then responded to that, Right.

A lot of that got taken out of context, and
none of it was personal by any means. It's just, uh,
you know what he demanded of the guys, and that's
that's the aura of Tom Brady and that's what he
did to bring a championship here, and so nothing personal.
But yeah, talking before the game, he's obviously happy for
me and he knows the guys, so he knows how

much I enjoyed throwing to Mike and Chris because he
got to do the same and so it's fun to

I felt or sensed, I mean, I like the competitive
edge that Brady brings, but I did sense a little defensiveness.

But did you see how he brought in note cards?

I mentioned it, Yes, he brought note cards in Kevin
a little index cards to Kevin Burkhart as like props,
little show and tell of you know, when he decided
to play for Tampa Bay, he had a little list
of pros and cons, which I think is cool and
it's cool to see that.

Tom Brady really did this. These are the actual.

Index cards that he used to write down. Here are
the pros of playing for Tampa which helped him made
that decision. And he said, and it was breaking news
that he was almost considering the Chicago Bears, Like it
was a serious push for Tom Brady in Chicago.

I had the same pro and conless when I was
choosing between you and Mario Lopez.

Oh yeah, yeah, no, seriously, I think it's a great
way to approach life, you know, have you go over
your pros and cons. But I thought that was interesting
because it makes you think it might be a discussion
in itself. Rich Like I was almost considering blank before radio,
I was almost considering being a fireman.

I was ready to give it up. You just wanted
to be in the calendar.

my radio days, I didn't catch my full break until

gonna do this fireman thing. It's steady, it's it's stable,
it's respectable. And I was this close to take the test.
And that's when I got to talk radio option with
Rich in two thousand and four. So I think we
all have that, you know. I was almost considering Tom
Brady moment that people would be surprised to hear. You know,

you'd have to mess up your hair every time you

Oh, probably still doing the old organic farming gig that

Yeah, I, me and my mom and our family ran
a business for about eight years.

But we have an old boss that we worked with
at serious XM. I thought it was a joke at first.
He was a radio broadcaster and program director for years
and years and years. I saw him on Facebook years
later after you got let go and they did some
budget changes, and he's running a pig farm. I thought
his first post was a joke, like, man, look at
this guy. Oh my god, he's successfully running a pig

because you know, that's something that he was passionate about,
I guess early on, and now he grew up. So hey,
tom Brady. Based on that, Tom Brady could have been
a Chicago Bear, but he obviously won with the Buccaneers.
And it does make you think, well, where was I considering?
What was I almost professionally, had I chosen a different path,

If you look back at that, and it went viral
because the refs were doing it, but if you look
back at that, they did it with more authority and
more more viggor than he did. I wasn't watching that

game as close as other games that were on in
that time window. That took them from inside the red zone.
They got the first down, but it backed them up
fifteen yards in a game where the Jets didn't get
the ball in the end zone.
