Speaker 3 (00:09):
Find your local station for Coveno Rich at Fox Sports
Radio dot com, or stream us live every day on
the iHeartRadio app like searching FSR. I love the fact
that we broadcast around the nation. I really do, because
I feel like if I could take a little piece
of every city and make the perfect place, wouldn't that
(00:31):
be awesome?
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Yeah? Why what's the viable about? I know it's colder,
right because I was talking to my parents today. My
dad was like, it's getting kind of chilli, and my
mom was telling me how it's getting cold on the
East coast as nice and cozy. Actually a little gloomy
here on the West side, a little brisk, little crispy, crunchy,
but still nice out.
Speaker 3 (00:51):
What was it? Just my parents and your parents ever
used the term nippy to describe the weather? It's nippy out.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
Well, it depends how tight my teare.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
It's work little nippy. Yeah, it's chilly out, but then
you go and signing your sweating it's gross. So first
and first mostly this whole season thing. I don't miss
it at all. I like it nice and hot every
day in southern California. I'll take it.
Speaker 1 (01:16):
I'm not gonna argue you on that one.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
Man.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
People ask me all the time, you know, do I
miss the East Coast. I'm like, well, I miss my
family kind of. That's really about it. I don't miss
the seasons. I don't miss the East Coast. I don't
miss the hustle and bustle and grind of New York.
I feel like it built us and created a work ethic,
but it didn't.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
You know, I don't miss it. Put it that way,
I don't.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
I'm very happy out here on the West Side, as
far as the weather and as far as the lifestyle.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
Before we get in to tonight, we got two games. Actually,
no Yankees are off tonight. We got Thursday Night football
tomorrow and two games. So tomorrow is a big night.
Tonight we just have Mets Dodgers. But I'm exhausted. So
if I seem scattered today.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
I scattered today. If people listen to the show, you're
scattered every day. You mean, if you feel a little,
if you seem a little sleepy time.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
Dude, I try to sleep on the Red Eye. Know
what I did? He said, I'm gonna take I'm gonna
take night quill. Yeah, I'm gonna take an edible and
maybe I'll have a glass of wine at the airport.
I just wanted to knock out to get five hours
with you.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
That's not healthy. That's a lot in a horse trinkle lot.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
I know, yes, seriously, why don't you bang your head
with a mallet too, bottle of scotch?
Speaker 3 (02:35):
And can I tell you I probably slept for fifteen
minutes on three different occasions. It was misery. But you
know what, I got to New York. I can't complain.
I can't be a little beach because I'm here for
the Mets Dodgers. I'm blessed to be able to do it,
so no one wants to hear me complain. But I
will say, within ten hours of being here in New York,
I already had a bacon, egg and cheese on a bagel.
(02:56):
I already had two slices of Grandma pizza. Oh, and
Danny g I ask you not. I'm walking through Times Square.
I see a guy with a Yankee jacket and a
Mets hat. Some guy grabs him and he goes, look
at this guy, I got no efform respect for you.
What do you know.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
I can't respect that. I really can't.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
I can't respect it either.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
I can't respect that choose a team that's selfish, it's lame,
it's everything. I don't like it. So he deserved to
be called out. But again, that's the other difference of
East Coast West Coast. You know, besides the weather and
your family being here and not there and everything else,
it's you get that sense of people tell you how
they feel. On the East Coast, they keep it real.
West Coast a bunch of phony malooneys. So that's another difference.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
My wife is from South Texas. I know we're on
in San Antonio. One of our affiliates, she's from that area.
When we travel around the country, and again we're going
to be in Seattle for graduate hotels November first, then
November twenty second, we'll be in Auburn. So I liked it.
We're like Tupac man. We get around and I love
it because I love all the differences about all the
listeners and people in this country. I'm telling you, walk
(04:03):
into a Starbucks in La in the middle of the day.
It looks like, what do these people do? Does anyone work?
Going to a coffee shop in New York in the
middle of day, Everyone's pants are on fire. Look, I'm
so busy. I got somewhere to go. It's like, he.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
Get out of my way, Get out of my way.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
We're working here. You know, you're so right. It's the
vibe of vo I gotta get to where I gotta go.
I got places to go, people to see. You're in
my way, beat it, and here in LA you're wondering
what people do. That is a major difference. And as
that's not to call out any Dodgers fan, I feelk
Dodgers fans are a different breed.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
They're very passionate.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
They're not the typical standard LA people that I'm saying
are phony Malooney's Dodgers fans very different. You know, it
depends on what port of California you're living in and
talking about too.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
It's regional. It's different.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
But it must be weird for you to be back
in New York rooting on your mets tonight.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
Yeah. You know, I wanted to ask Danny and Ioa
Sam because you know they're not from the East Coast,
Danny a California kid. Iowa Sam, you guessed it? And
Iowa kid, what.
Speaker 1 (05:10):
You talking about it? I'm big Apple Sam. I grew
big Apple Sam. I'm as midtown as it gets when you're.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
Just mid Actually, oh midtown Sam. No, we said mid Sam.
Speaker 4 (05:21):
You'll always been major to me, SAMs.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
When you've been to New York in your life, do
you get the sense of, like, what is everyone rushing
around for? Because when you grow up here, you think
that's normal, and then when you come back, you're like,
what is everyone doing?
Speaker 1 (05:37):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (05:37):
The first time I took a cab ride, I was
holding onto the Holy s Bar.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
It was it was nuts. It's twice the speed of LA.
Speaker 6 (05:47):
Also, I remember the last time I was in New York.
It's been a little while. It was twenty eleven, but
I remember being forced off the sidewalk because there were
so many people on the sidewalk. I'd walk in the street.
Speaker 3 (05:57):
Get out of my way.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
We're working here.
Speaker 2 (05:59):
Hey, seriously, that's the vibe. I don't miss that at all.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
Believe me.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
Know. The buzz I'm getting though, is that right now?
New York is very excited for the Mets. And the Yankees,
and there's a lot of Yankee fans doing the whole Yo.
You gotta respect the Mets. The Mets are exciting, system.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
The grimmest billboards everywhere, I'm seeing a lot of a
lot of Mets hype, and there is a lot of
respect from Yankees fans for the Mets. They've played with
that World Series like magic. They've They've been exciting to watch.
I don't think any Yankees fan hates the Mets. You
want to know how I feel, and I feel like
it reflects the sentiment of all Yankees fans. I feel
(06:39):
like I'd rather face the Dodgers in the World Series.
But here's why, so that the Dodgers could do the
dirty work and beat the Mets. Now, that doesn't mean
I'm rooting against your Mets, Rich, It's just that I'll
feel bad going against your Mets, and let's say the
Yankees win, I'll feel bad about that because.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
I really like your Mets.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
I don't want blood on the Yankees' hands for beating
the Mets.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
Let the Dodgers do it. And I'm hoping.
Speaker 3 (07:05):
You're Tony Soprano. You want Danny to do the hit?
Speaker 2 (07:08):
Yeah, I want Danny's Dodgers to make the hit on
the Mets so that the Yankees don't have to do it,
because as a Yankees fan, like I don't hate the Dodgers.
I'm impressed by them and they're scary, So I'm hoping
the Dodgers for the Yankee sake. Nothing against you. Yeah, no,
I hear you, only because I'd feel bad. I don't
feel as bad if the Yankees beat the Dodgers. I
(07:30):
feel bad if the Yankees beat the Mets.
Speaker 3 (07:32):
I think that Danny g and I could share in
one sentiment, being that he's Dodgers on Mets.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
And by the way, right just assuming the Yankees win,
everyone here is hoping and assuming their team's win.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
Yeah, Danny, would you agree. You're a Dodgers guy, I'm
a Mets guy. We want the Yankees to sweep Cleveland,
sit around for like eight days and get so cold,
get some cobwebs. Everybody wants. Everybody has their plan. I
was perfect for them. That's my wish, that's your I
get it.
Speaker 2 (08:01):
And it's a little awkward because you know, we're all
rooting for each other because it makes it fun.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
But you know, we got rich rooting for his Mets.
We got Danny g right here wearing his Dodgers jersey.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
Man, So it's a it's a fun and interesting time
of the year for sure.
Speaker 3 (08:15):
No doubt. You know, I think about it. I really
do want Aaron Judge so cold that he's like the
tin man like girl, like he's so rusty.
Speaker 7 (08:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (08:23):
When I saw that home run last night, I'm like, no, no,
stay cold, stay cold, seriously, don't really cool.
Speaker 3 (08:30):
Don't warm up now, Yankees, because the Yankees seem to
be getting by playing mediocre baseball because they're so good
right that I think if they played a team like
the Dodgers or Mets and they played the way they're
playing now, they won't win.
Speaker 1 (08:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
I agree, that's possible for sure. But you let him
heat up, then we got a battle. So it's getting
real exciting. Man and Rich, How good are your seats tonight?
Speaker 3 (08:51):
By the way, tonight, I'm gonna be sitting in center
field with the seven line army. You know, those like
diehard met fans that all wear orange and they go nuts.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
Yeah, the guys smack anytime we say something like controversial
about the Mets.
Speaker 3 (09:03):
Anytime you do. So I'm sitting out there tonight in
the bleachers, and then.
Speaker 1 (09:08):
Tomorrow came run ball.
Speaker 3 (09:10):
Then yeah, yeah, thanks Danny, I'll give it to you,
wiping out my ass.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
Couldn't you imagine that visual though?
Speaker 2 (09:16):
Rich with his Pinstripe jersey on all pump looking like
David Wright and the ball lands right in his arms.
How disappointed?
Speaker 1 (09:23):
Yeah, he's due. Rich.
Speaker 5 (09:24):
Otani hasn't homered since the playoff opener, and one memory
I have of City Field this past season is Otawni
hitting a monster shot there. So I would love to
see an Otani home run tonight.
Speaker 1 (09:37):
Rich, you mentioned one of us.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
Yeah, well, you mentioned how it's so cool to talk
to a national audience and people all over the country. Right,
I'm hoping that our excitement is translating and impacting you guys,
hoping that it gets you excited to watch tonight. Because
I'm not a Mets guy, I'm not a Donders guy,
(09:59):
but I am so excited to watch this game tonight.
And that's I hope everyone's feeding off of that a
little bit.
Speaker 3 (10:04):
If you're a competitive guy and you're a sports fan.
I was just saying to one of our mutual buds
that you know, what a great time. You got baseball
playoffs that are sick. You got the NFL which is
heating up. You got great college football, The NBA is
right around the corner. You have a Jake Paul Mike
Tyson fight. You have an election in twenty days. There's
a lot heads are falling off. So hey, listen, a
(10:27):
lot of cool stuff coming up in the next month
or so. So tonight game three Dodgers Mets here at
City Field, and uh thrown out the first pitch? Who's
throwing at the first pitch tonight again, Darryl Strawberry.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
Here is my Detha used to say, Darryl Friss, Darryl
Strawberry is going to be out there.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
You know.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
I was talking to my mom too on my way
to the show, and she's like Stevens and she's not
a big Mets fan. But I mean, everybody in New York,
anybody who is alive, remembers Darryl Strawberry.
Speaker 1 (10:55):
Right.
Speaker 2 (10:56):
The sweetest swing of all time is between him and
Ken Griffy Junior. Yeah, I mean the former Dodger, former Dodger,
former Yankee, former men. You know, he did it all.
He won with the Yanks too. But he says his heart.
One of his biggest regrets was leaving the Mets fans.
He said that when they retired his number, my mom said,
I want to tune in just to see what he
looks like. Well, I even recognize him.
Speaker 3 (11:17):
I'm like Daryl Strawberry's one of those guys that looks
pretty much exactly the same.
Speaker 1 (11:21):
Mom. Yeah, he hasn't huge much at all, bald head.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
Yeah, So just just to let you know, the Mets
have picked who's going to throw out the first pitch
the next three days, and they're they're going with the
different generations of Mets players, most of which who didn't
win because the Mets only have eighty six in my lifetime.
But tonight Darryl and Duck Goodin tomorrow Robin Ventre and
Edgardell Alfonso, and then Friday they got Matt Halvey and Cspedis.
(11:49):
So they're bringing back some former Mets for the ceremony.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
Some social media buzz about Ruben Tahadah.
Speaker 3 (11:57):
Trying to bring back him after the Dodgers took out him.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
I saw that would be cool, you know, again on
some Mets blogs, But hey man, that's awesome, dude. And Look,
it's the spooky season, it's football season, is postseason baseball.
And I think what Rich was trying to get at
is people justifying actual seasons, like, hey, man, I live
here in New York because I love the winters. Oh
(12:20):
is bs because no one loves the cold, no one
loves the fall in cold weather places. It's all b
s jokes on you. If you're living somewhere where it's
cold right now, don't tell me you love wearing your
winter coats.
Speaker 3 (12:33):
It's for the birds. And that's where realize. That's where
Rich was really heading. Something we discovered over the years
before Fox Sports Radio. Kavio and I did our show
at serious XP for years, which you know, broadcasts of
the country, Canada, Mexico. You'd be shocked at how people
love to brag about the bad weather in their hometown.
I never understood that, Like, oh, you think that's bad
(12:54):
a up here in Alberta, Canada, A it's a negative
thirty And you're like, what you like that?
Speaker 2 (13:00):
People do love to brag, man, how much colder it
is where they are. I'm like, yeah, I'm sorry to
hear that.
Speaker 7 (13:04):
Man.
Speaker 3 (13:04):
I love a crisp fall day there, Come on spawn.
I want a nice hot sight er. I want to
sit by a fire. Yeah, I would to wrap myself in.
Speaker 1 (13:12):
Leaves.
Speaker 3 (13:13):
Change.
Speaker 2 (13:13):
It's fun, it's fun to visit, to live in that.
When you've done it, No thanks, no thanks, Just go to.
Speaker 3 (13:21):
Big Bear for a deck. You're fun.
Speaker 6 (13:23):
Yeah, spot's gonna be breaking out that wool sweater, big buttons.
Speaker 1 (13:26):
It's like you know of those you do have?
Speaker 3 (13:29):
I'm sure a turtle neck like he's Jim Carry and
dumb and dumber.
Speaker 5 (13:33):
Yeah, and don't you need an extra hour to go
to work because you have to scrape the ice off
your windshield?
Speaker 1 (13:38):
Yeah, I start the car. You got the car, No thanks.
Change in a few weeks and it gets dark at four,
that's what Rich was saying.
Speaker 2 (13:47):
Rich was like, I don't know how people justify the
seasons out here. It's cold already here in New York. Meanwhile,
it's nice out here in Los Angeles, beautiful. So hey,
wherever you are, enjoy it and enjoy the postseason. And
and man, I'm feeding off for your even though you're sleepy.
Speaker 1 (14:02):
Rich, I'm so pumped for you, dude.
Speaker 3 (14:04):
I'm getting pumped game time a couple hours. I'm gonna
take the subway to the game, like a true New Yorker,
hop on the train with Grimace, go to the game.
I'm pumped. Two hours from now, first pitch, actually three
hours from now, first pitch from right the second. Speaking
of New York, I had one story I wanted to
get to today, and I know you were down with
(14:25):
this as well. There's a story about Robert Sala that's
such a non story that it's funny. It's like, it's like,
remember Billy Madison when Billy hired the janitor to be
a detective sideburns.
Speaker 1 (14:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (14:36):
Yeah, Miss Nippy drinks milk and what was like it
was just ridiculous.
Speaker 1 (14:41):
Kids love milk. Her car is green? Is that something
like that?
Speaker 3 (14:46):
Yeah? Well, it's like Robert Salah was grocery shopping.
Speaker 1 (14:51):
The headline was what to eat?
Speaker 3 (14:52):
What food?
Speaker 2 (14:53):
Yeah, Hey, celebrities are just like us. Coaches are just
like us. He needs to eat food to survive. I
think the story of the headline was like, Robert Sala's
running errand so he's out and about running errands. And
even though I was intrigued, I'm like, oh, what kind
of errands is he running? And he was shopping at
Whole foods probably you know, be rich. Yeah, expensive, overpriced.
That's twenty thousand dollars a day. And Spot, it's actually
(15:16):
the question.
Speaker 3 (15:16):
Spot, I'm glad you said that because sala As we've
all seen even Spot twenty thousand dollars a day for
the next two years.
Speaker 1 (15:23):
Thank you for breaking that down. That makes me feel awful. So, yeah,
some people are making twenty bucks a day.
Speaker 3 (15:30):
He's making twenty thousand dollars a day. So Robert Salas
salary making twenty thousand dollars a day for the next
two years to just sit on his askaus. The Jets
got rid of him.
Speaker 1 (15:39):
That is my starting salary back in the early two thousands.
Speaker 3 (15:42):
Let me let me throw this question out of you.
Speaker 1 (15:45):
You're differently back then.
Speaker 3 (15:46):
If you're in a competitive industry, some people aren't. Some
people are like, no, my career not so much. If
you're in a competitive industry and you have a payout
on your contract, I know this is very rare. It's
we're all not Robert sala But he's gonna get paid regardless.
If you're Robert sala and you're getting millions and millions
to sit around, do you say I'm a guy in
(16:08):
my forties. Let me enjoy life and I'll get back
out there when the time is right, Or do you
try to get out there pretty soon? I saw the Niners.
That wasn't a BS story. The Niners spoke to Sala
about like, hey, what are we thinking? Is every way
to get this guy as a as an advisor or
something for the forty nine ers defense, Like, if you're
Robert Salad, do you say, guys, I'm gonna chill for
(16:31):
a year and a half.
Speaker 1 (16:31):
No way, no way, I thought about it.
Speaker 2 (16:33):
You gotta get right back out there for so many reasons,
one of them being life moves right past you. Life
waits for nobody. Right, You're like, hey, I'm Robert Salad.
People forgot about you already. He's forty five, for the record,
you know they asked him. Hey Robert, he's there at
Whole Foods with a shiny head.
Speaker 3 (16:49):
Right. You know what was that overpriced a milkshake? You
us to get the little protein chick?
Speaker 1 (16:53):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (16:54):
What was that peanut buttery peanut buttery milkshake?
Speaker 1 (16:58):
Whole Foods? It cost me a twenty five bucks?
Speaker 2 (17:01):
And he's running errands like hey, doing rob He's like
live in the dream he says, live in the dream.
So he's staying positive, right, And I'm gonna see you
on the sideline soon, Rob, he says, God willing. And
I think he wants to get that out there as
soon as possible, because again, football life, it'll all move
(17:23):
past him. Plus, when you love what you do, why
wouldn't you want to be out there. This guy is
at this level because he loves what he does. That's
who he is. You're sitting around, You're like, who am I?
So your thoughts would love to hear from you?
Speaker 3 (17:39):
Eight seven, seven, nine nine on Fox or at coviing
on Rich what do you do with your Salah? Do
you say, letna take a little time to myself. I'm
a man of my forties. I got plenty of time
to coach. Let me enjoy life. That's where you run.
But you're taking every phone call trying to get back
out there next week.
Speaker 5 (17:54):
One thing you have to take into consideration though. He
and his wife have five sons and two daughters. Remember
back in the day when Spotty reported that Tom Brady
hated his family.
Speaker 1 (18:04):
Dude, Yeah, brought book that news and it ended up
being true.
Speaker 2 (18:08):
Yeah, when you really think about that, in today's world,
seven kids. Seven kids might might as well be like
twenty five kids in today's world. That's extremely high. Like
how many How many people do you know our age
around our age to have more than two kids?
Speaker 1 (18:21):
Not many?
Speaker 3 (18:22):
Did you say seven kids?
Speaker 1 (18:24):
Yeah, it says.
Speaker 5 (18:25):
It says Sala and his wife have five sons and
two daughters, two not three.
Speaker 1 (18:31):
Cool dude, it's got paid for that day. I think
he needs thirty dollars a day to go twenty.
Speaker 3 (18:38):
Bread to day seems about right.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
Should hit up Tyreek Hill for some advice. It's a
lot of Whole Foods, milkshakes.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
So ask yourself this answer the question if you're Sala,
are you right back out there or are you spending
time with your seven children and saying, Hey, the Jets
are gonna pay me millions of dollars to sit on
my ass? Or do you say, yo, I'll take John
Lynch's phone call. I'll take I'll take phone calls from
other teams in the NFL. What do you do?
Speaker 1 (19:03):
All right?
Speaker 2 (19:05):
Yeah, I say disrespectfully. My uncle Joe retired recently, right,
and I'm like, yo, Joe, what you been doing bro?
Speaker 1 (19:11):
For like the past two years? He's like nothing.
Speaker 2 (19:14):
I'm like, aren't you bored? He's like no, I'm like
not even a little bit. He's like, nah, love it.
Just yeah, he's totally content, happy doing nothing because Yo,
he was a cop and it was a grind and
it was tough. He didn't necessarily love it. He loved,
you know, serving and protecting, but he loves chilling better. Well,
(19:36):
when you're Robert Sella, you want to get back out
there or else you're forgotten too, man, You've forgotten quickly
in today's world.
Speaker 3 (19:41):
You know. Sometimes, as you always point out, the little
tortilla girl once said, why not both? When when asked
to choose between hard and soft tortillas, corn and flour? Like,
why not both?
Speaker 1 (19:54):
Why not both?
Speaker 3 (19:55):
I mean, why can't he do what Cliff Kingsbury did
and go on vacation, like kicked very well on like
an exoticfication with his hot girlfriend. And then he came
back and he's like, all right, I'm ready to coach again.
Speaker 2 (20:06):
You gotta do something like that, to sit around and
just taking the money and think to yourself, well, I'll
get out there when i'm ready. You know, you might
be ready, but other people have moved on.
Speaker 3 (20:18):
Is it safe to say, Covino, Danny g is it
safe to say one year you're not forgotten you start
going on two years. I'll even say that about Belichick.
Belichick took the year off. I think if the years
start passing, I know he's getting older anyway. But Cavino's right,
you are forgotten. You could be an actor or musician
if you're a hot artist, if you don't put out
(20:39):
a new album, or you're a comedian that doesn't pet
out a new Netflix special after a year or so
or to the next, like jay.
Speaker 1 (20:44):
Z Bro, they're done with you.
Speaker 5 (20:45):
Yeah, it's like that in our industry even it is. Yeah,
if you haven't uh what we call him airchecks a
demo tape from two years ago and you're like, oh,
the Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins, then a potential employer would
be like, how long has this dude been off the radio?
Speaker 3 (21:00):
Yeah, Denny's in medio right, You're like, no longer Relevantny.
It's interesting because this is actually applicable to our industry
more so than others, where there are times where a
host will get let go and he'll have a non
compete so they'll pay him out. But sometimes the host
is like sitting on the sidelines, and broadcasting or sports
or entertainment, you might as well be dead.
Speaker 1 (21:20):
Yeah, but I.
Speaker 2 (21:21):
Imagine most industries because philosophies change, trends change, things change.
Speaker 3 (21:26):
Dude.
Speaker 2 (21:26):
If you're cutting hair, you take some time off, you
come back, you're giving flattops and people are like, nope,
sunburst fades.
Speaker 1 (21:32):
Bro, you're missing out.
Speaker 3 (21:34):
Dude.
Speaker 1 (21:34):
You're like old school, You're old news.
Speaker 3 (21:36):
You don't want a haircut out of this Vidal Sassoon magazine.
Speaker 2 (21:38):
They're like, oh, I mean I took I took a
few Uh, I took a few years off, and you're
still giving haircuts from nineteen eighty six, your feather and.
Speaker 1 (21:46):
Hair, and people are like, nah, dude, drop it fades, Dude,
you don't want the pats.
Speaker 2 (21:51):
You don't what you're giving Pat Sajack haircuts because you
thought people would love you when you came back.
Speaker 5 (21:56):
To Rich's point, though, you can take a few months. Yeah,
when you got any if you have the money to
do that with your family, then that would be great.
Speaker 1 (22:02):
You know.
Speaker 2 (22:03):
And that's probably the best answer, Rich. It's the boring answer,
but it's the best answer.
Speaker 3 (22:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (22:07):
The real answer is probably a mix of it, Like
you take a maybe.
Speaker 1 (22:12):
Like a month, max like to relax. Well, that's really
taking it in.
Speaker 3 (22:16):
Yeah, in his world, Kivino, I think you take the
rest of the season and then you see Robert sella
pop up as a defensive coordinator or a defensive advisor
or hell, maybe even a head coach somewhere else. But
this is you know. I just think that to sit
around for more than the rest of the season would
be a mistake. But if Salas sat out the rest
of the year and he's like, ef it, Aaron Rodgers,
let the ship sink. I'm I'll watch and I'll be
(22:37):
back next year somewhere else. That one an harmoning one.
Speaker 2 (22:42):
I'm also impressed that he does his own grocery shopping,
because I find that to be dreadful.
Speaker 1 (22:46):
I don't do that. That's not the life I live.
I know Rich loves doing it. I love it. I don't.
I'm like, give me a out of here. I hate
this place.
Speaker 3 (22:51):
My whole path through the grocery store, I know which
roeles to go to first, know where the deals are.
Speaker 6 (22:56):
Cart guy or basket guy, depends on what I'm going
in for. I usually take a bak it. I hate
the cart man. It's too big and bulky, and Sala's
got seven kids. You know he's got You gotta have
the car shop at Costco. Yeah, because it's not a
Costco guy.
Speaker 2 (23:09):
Yeah, but that's also honestly, that's interesting in itself. I
don't want to be like celebrities are just like us.
But this guy just got fired from the Jets and
he's a whole Foods. That's so random, you know, Remember
they see.
Speaker 6 (23:20):
He was grocery shopping and he was no one even
noticed him.
Speaker 2 (23:23):
He was just I mean, I respect it, but you're
making twenty thousand dollars a day. Someone buy your food, dude,
relaxed you.
Speaker 3 (23:29):
Did you say money? I did? Yeah? Fun facts and
something fun fact boy. On this day, On this day,
twenty years ago, Lionel Messi made his soccer professional debut.
Look at that it all ties together.
Speaker 1 (23:44):
It does wow. So Fox Sports Radio Nation we give
you the John Kenonis.
Speaker 2 (23:49):
What would you do? You make the call? Let's take
one quick phone call now. Would you lay low and
enjoy your twenty thousand dollars a day or get back
on the on the grind and try to get a
new job.
Speaker 3 (24:01):
Grind you did you love that show with Eric Niece
on MTV back in the day.
Speaker 2 (24:04):
Hell, yeah, bro, I used to dance in front of
my TV screen. I used to wear the holes into
my socks dancing and doing the running Man on the
carpet grind.
Speaker 1 (24:14):
Yeah, the grind.
Speaker 5 (24:14):
I hadn't thought about that. His dad was an NBA referee.
Remember thought about that show in decades? I think about
it every day. That's the fun of our show. I
was saying, we got the memories.
Speaker 2 (24:24):
Yeah, we're going way back on on a Wednesday. Let's
take this phone call. Who do we got Danny.
Speaker 1 (24:28):
Let's start with Dan in Illinois.
Speaker 2 (24:30):
Hey, Dan, welcome to the Cavino and Rich Show. We're
here in La Riches in New York for the Mets game.
Speaker 7 (24:36):
How are we going? Fellows up?
Speaker 8 (24:40):
Hey?
Speaker 7 (24:41):
So when I was in college, my dad got fired
over the summer, and.
Speaker 3 (24:47):
I remember I came home from working over.
Speaker 7 (24:48):
That summer and he was just sitting out in the
lawn reading the.
Speaker 2 (24:51):
Book, having the time of his life.
Speaker 3 (24:53):
He had severns for three months.
Speaker 7 (24:54):
So I think what you guys were saying, you got
to take a couple, uh take you ride out the season.
Speaker 3 (25:00):
And I'm sure he'll get hired as the DC after
the end of the year, but take some time for
the family first.
Speaker 1 (25:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (25:05):
No, the only way too long though, man, And keep
in mind a lot of these examples. I don't know
what his dad did, but they don't love what they do.
That's the big difference here. If you ask me to
be off radio for a few months, I'll be like,
you mean my hobby, Yeah, you mean my fun?
Speaker 1 (25:19):
You want me to stay away from my fun? This
is my only social interaction really on the radio, So
you want to take away my lifeline? Like, are you serious?
I love what I do.
Speaker 5 (25:28):
And by the way, off the air, Dan mentioned to
me that that was that's one of his best and
favorite memories of his dad.
Speaker 1 (25:34):
Ah see, that's really cool.
Speaker 2 (25:35):
Okay, so oh yeah, I could see that being real
important spend with his kid.
Speaker 1 (25:41):
Yeah, that's great.
Speaker 3 (25:42):
Cove, You're you're the king of wanting to give a
lesson with every conversation we have where people can take
away something. I know. That's what Kevina loves that. He's like,
I want every cover SATs have a lesson. Well, if
you ever go through that little stint at work where
you're out of work or you're changing jobs. The advice
is don't be on the sidelines for too long, but
(26:04):
don't jump right into the next thing. I have a friend.
One of the moms at the school ran like the
nursing department at a university. She left, and I remember saying,
what do you what's that? Grinn? Did you think all
the moms want me at the school as?
Speaker 1 (26:19):
Yeah, I don't know? Friends with the mom sounds interesting?
Speaker 3 (26:22):
Continue, How could the moms at the school not love me? What?
I only talk to the hot moms. I'm kidding. So,
but when you leave a job on your own even
and the new job says, when could you start? If
you have savings? Tell the new job next month?
Speaker 2 (26:40):
Oh is this the mom that wipes her kids boogers
and then puts the tissue down her shirt.
Speaker 1 (26:44):
But she's kind of hot.
Speaker 3 (26:45):
That's Billy Madison, you idiots. Yeah, but you know what
I'm saying, Like, there's no point like, yeah, there's no
point in not, you know, giving yourself a month.
Speaker 1 (26:58):
Riches like Tupac Man.
Speaker 2 (26:59):
He gets a Yeah, he's gonna be in Seattle, he's
gonna be in Auburn, He's in New York right now.
Speaker 3 (27:04):
Oh, I'm gonna be in Austin next week.
Speaker 2 (27:06):
Rich gets around. Actually, you like the beach Boys round round,
gator a round? Rich gets around? The game is Dodgers
at the Mets? Is time a one? Richi's gonna be
cheering real loud, So maybe advantage Mets.
Speaker 1 (27:20):
I don't know. I don't know. Rich can't get to
the stadium quick enough for me, Dude, Rich probably pomp pumps.
Speaker 3 (27:25):
I'm a mush. I'm a mush, dude, you know it's
it's it's funny that there are times where you're like,
am I the mush? Like I know it's not true,
it can't be true. It's ridiculous, But there are times
like should I still stay away?
Speaker 1 (27:37):
Is it? What's your playoff record?
Speaker 3 (27:39):
Danny? Let me just break it down this way. People
that listen to our show know my two teams are
the forty nine ers and the Mets. Right, I've been
to three Super Bowls and two World Series in the
last twenty years. Guess what? Oh and five? Oh?
Speaker 1 (27:53):
And by the way, it runs in the family, what's
your daughter?
Speaker 3 (27:56):
You know? My daughter who's seven, she's ohing four.
Speaker 1 (28:01):
Yeah, she doesn't know what winning means. I know.
Speaker 2 (28:04):
Yeah, Rich has made some bad choices, dude, I hope
it works in your favor. You flew across the country.
Then again, I feel bad saying it.
Speaker 5 (28:12):
For the day, I'm going to say this, I hope
that Rich's Jinx ends next season.
Speaker 1 (28:18):
A right, there you go.
Speaker 5 (28:20):
I hope they go undefeated with your family at the
game's next season.
Speaker 2 (28:23):
By the way, it's so awkward. I hope people are
picking up on that too. Danny's dying hard Dodgers. When
he's not wearing Raiders gear, he's wearing Lakers or Dodgers gear.
He's so la and we love Danny g Rich die
hard Mets.
Speaker 1 (28:36):
Guys.
Speaker 2 (28:36):
Team hasn't been this far and so long, so I'm
rooting for Rich. Then, of course I'm rooting for my Yankees.
Speaker 3 (28:42):
Dude. We're all good friends, and I think we're taking
You know, some would argue too much of a mature approach.
Speaker 2 (28:48):
I am for now right for now. Yeah, for now,
let's just do.
Speaker 1 (28:53):
It at that. The gloves might come off in a
World Series.
Speaker 3 (28:56):
It might, Man or Dandy if when I get back,
if if we're Game six or seven, I may, you know,
I may flatten your tires in the parking.
Speaker 2 (29:04):
Grudge shout out to tire Rack now Rich. We have
lots to get to on today's show. Spot's working on
midweek major as we speak, and I saw some of
his stories. He's gonna spill some tea as the kidd
he says juice. He's got some juice, juice Supac style.
How far will you go to get it? He's got
(29:24):
the juice. Oh you know, it's got some tea that
I haven't heard before. And again, you know, just stick around,
you'll hear it midweek. Stop looking over my shoulder. I
saw the hot stories, hot cove.
Speaker 3 (29:35):
Let me hit you up with something that I did
see and then we'll get back to this. Well, we'll
get back to some NFL, NBA, Major League Baseball play.
It's a lot going on.
Speaker 1 (29:42):
And then I have this wim Ben Yama story too.
Speaker 3 (29:44):
Yeah, yeah, there's a there's gonna be what they're saying
could arguably the number one costume this Halloween. What do
you think it is?
Speaker 2 (29:54):
Rob Zombie Spirit Halloween announced that he has two masks
and they're all sold out. I don't know why, but
there is truth to that. But I that's that's where
you were going. Always had done hop culture Kelsey. Uh Swift,
that was last year.
Speaker 4 (30:09):
Sydney Sweetey's Sidney Sweeney. Sorry what now, hawk to a girl?
Hawk to a girl?
Speaker 3 (30:17):
Nope, that's you will see hawk to a girl though,
for sure.
Speaker 1 (30:21):
Let's see.
Speaker 2 (30:23):
By the way, that rob zombie thing, I didn't make
that up. I know it sounds random, but that's a
true story. Uh let's see, Oh, terrifying the clown.
Speaker 3 (30:32):
They're saying that there's gonna be a lot of dudes
in the black community that just go around with a
big bottle of baby oil, and everyone's gonna go as Diddy.
They're they're gonna They're saying that the big Halloween costume
might be guys going around with just a huge bottle
of baby oil, like I'm Diddy.
Speaker 5 (30:49):
Like, that's gonna be uncomfortable for the people doing that
costume to go in and buy all the Johnson and Johnson.
Speaker 1 (30:56):
I don't think they're actually it's gonna be actual baby oil.
You don't think so?
Speaker 2 (30:59):
Maybe Spotman would usak Yeah, wow, that's funny.
Speaker 1 (31:04):
Man.
Speaker 3 (31:05):
By the way, did you ever hear the follow up
to that that Costco's like, yeah, he didn't buy it.
Speaker 2 (31:09):
Here he's lying, what do the Costco boys have to
say about that. Did they give it a boom or
a doom boom?
Speaker 3 (31:16):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (31:16):
They give it booms, the Costco guys they have ten booms,
all right, so rich, yes, But I want people to
start thinking about this. You always hear that thing like, yeah,
don't meet your heroes, but then there's a lot of
times in life where you're pleasantly surprised and your heroes
were everything you hope they'd be. Right now, we all
(31:38):
have a lot of experience in this because working years
in radio, we've had the great fortune of meeting a
lot of cool people. So we all have our stories.
But Wimpin Yama shared a story that he was really
impressed and inspired by the way a lot of the
NBA players approached the game, but others that he used
(32:00):
to admire like heroes of his, he felt disappointed because
they didn't seem like they put in as much work
as he thought they did. That was like a surprising
reality for him his rookie year in the NBA. So
think about that from his perspective, He's a young dude
with all his promise and he's seeing some of his
(32:21):
his heroes, and his heroes are like hot dog in it.
You know, they're not putting in that effort that he thought.
They're not living that healthy, committed lifestyle like he probably thought,
and they sort of were disappointing. So it seemed from
my take on the story, he was like fifty to fifty.
There was a lot of people that impressed him, but
a lot of people that disappointed him. Yeah, you know,
(32:43):
That's why I think sometimes you don't want to really
know too much about your favorite sports teams because I've
heard stories like.
Speaker 3 (32:49):
Oh, that guy he's on the IL Oh you know
why his legs all cramped up because he was out
drinking till four in the morning. And you're like, You're like,
I don't want to what that?
Speaker 1 (32:57):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (32:57):
What how come I care more than that guy. Our
first real TV gig, we did a talk show live
in New York City back of the New York Groove,
Times Square SNY Covino and Rich on SNY, home of
the Mets, Jets and all things New York Sports and
formerly a home of Covino and rich We had a
(33:18):
great time there, but because we worked there, we still
may know some cameramen on site.
Speaker 3 (33:24):
You think they'll find rich in the crowd. That would
be great, dude, It would be so great, dude. Why
don't you reach out them? You want them to find me? Yes,
if I'm sad, dude, you gotta let him know you're there.
They'll zoom in on Rich when he's happy. Yes, and
then if something bad happens, you'll see sad Rich.
Speaker 5 (33:44):
I want video of Rich well after the live incident
fighting with somebody on the ground for the Otani home
run ball and by the way, Danny g and then
for it to go viral, maybe he.
Speaker 1 (33:55):
Gets on TV.
Speaker 2 (33:57):
But let me reveal one of Rich's like creepy seas
from back in the day.
Speaker 1 (34:01):
This was like back in the early two thousands. It
was okay to be a little no no no radio
stay hold on. Rich would take like hot Way no no, no.
He would take hot waymen to the game.
Speaker 2 (34:12):
We had some Mets access back then, right because we
worked at us and Why And he would call the
camera dudes and he would get on the big screen
like he was some sort of hot shot.
Speaker 3 (34:23):
No no, no, no, here's the move. Hey, if you
got to tell my story, okay, well, how did I
ruin it?
Speaker 7 (34:29):
Well?
Speaker 3 (34:29):
No, if you got to tell my story, The truth
was our buddy ran the in stadium cam and Sfield
and I would bring dates there and I'd be like, hey,
in the sixth inning, when you do the kiss cam,
put it on me. I'm in section one.
Speaker 1 (34:43):
Hashtag me too. Yeah, exactly what I said. I was
trying to creepier, right, what are you talking about? Yeah,
it was the early two thousands. It's good that.
Speaker 3 (34:53):
Part is I only went to games with Spot. Yeah,
so who is that Yukon Cornelius and David? Right, No,
that's Rich and Spot. So anyway, I kiss you.
Speaker 2 (35:04):
You know, maybe Rich will get on TV if he
uses some of our old context. But hey, enjoy the
game tonight, and thanks for being here with us. Now,
if you just joined us, I pose a question and
I'll explain exactly where it came from.
Speaker 3 (35:17):
Again.
Speaker 2 (35:19):
Wimbin Yama was asked what surprised him most about his
NBA rookie year, and he was very honest about it,
which I think is really cool. Is still a little
shocking because you always get some sort of BS answer, right,
He says, some NBA stars, some are really impressive and
(35:39):
inspiring in the way they approached the game, but others
that I used to like by the way I used
to like.
Speaker 1 (35:48):
They disappointed him.
Speaker 2 (35:49):
He doesn't respect him, he doesn't like him as much
others that I used to like, they don't seem like
they put in as much work as I thought they did.
So you got to see, imagine from women Yama's standpoint,
he's so pumped. He's that next guy. He comes in hungry,
and he realizes that other people aren't as hungry and
aren't as ambitious about playing in the NBA as he is.
(36:11):
They're sort of just going through the motions, riding on
their high level of skill as opposed to putting in
the work. And I'll have that list of names in
midweek major I'm kidding. Oh sorry, kidd, but it did
get us thinking about it when your hero's disappoint and
you know, to tie it into something else too. It's
also refreshing to see, like how committed other people are.
(36:33):
We mentioned Brady Brady before, but did you see Brady's
commitment to excellence when talking about the Raiders and how
he's so pumped about the opportunity to be part of
the organization and more pumped about winning with the Raiders.
Like that's commitment. Some people have that commitment. Some people
do not.
Speaker 3 (36:53):
Yeah, well, you know Trevor Lawrence gets that criticism, Danny.
I think you and I've talked about that, where Trevor
Lawrence is known as a guy that doesn't live, eat,
and breathe football like others. Like there are guys in
the NFL that are like, yeah, I'm a good football player,
it's my job. And then there's others that like at
Jaden Daniels, who they say is in the facility at
(37:14):
four or five in the morning watching tape.
Speaker 1 (37:16):
Yeah, that's great.
Speaker 3 (37:17):
Come from different cloths.
Speaker 5 (37:18):
Yeah, Remember Kyler Murray took a lot of criticism over
his lifestyle because remember.
Speaker 3 (37:22):
They wanted to put that clause in the contract the
playbook one and everyone got all offended.
Speaker 1 (37:26):
Yeah, they wanted to keep them off of video games.
Speaker 2 (37:29):
So when heroes disappoint, I will say this man working
in radio for over twenty years and meeting a lot
of cool people and a lot of our heroes, I
will say that most of the time, granted they're on
the radio, so our guests are putting their best foot forward, right,
So we're getting a positive version of most of our guests.
(37:50):
But ninety percent of them, ninety five even have delivered.
I think we've had great rapport and great interaction with
a lot of celebrity people and athletes.
Speaker 5 (38:00):
Okay, I want names, not to put you guys on
the spot, but who's the one athlete or celebrity that
surprised you the most because you heard negative things about them.
Speaker 1 (38:09):
I'll give you an actor. I'll give you an actor.
Speaker 2 (38:10):
Okay, dude, Jeremy Piven, right Entourage Jeremy Piven Judgment. Hey,
I love that movie Ari. Everybody's like, dude, Jeremy Piven,
what a jerkface?
Speaker 1 (38:22):
Oh this guy. You don't want to deal with this guy.
Speaker 3 (38:25):
But they didn't say jerk face.
Speaker 1 (38:26):
They didn't say jerkface, right, Oh, this guy?
Speaker 2 (38:29):
And you you get that sort of feeling about Jeremy Piven, right, like, oh,
I don't know what to expect about this guy.
Speaker 1 (38:35):
He plays a character like that in movies and TV, and.
Speaker 2 (38:38):
Maybe he is like that, dude, Rich and I had
more than one interaction and sit down and interview with
Jeremy Piven, and he couldn't have been cooler, right, So
you never know when you're catching him or maybe the
other person sucks.
Speaker 5 (38:51):
Yeah, now that's what I was gonna ask you, Okay,
the other side of the coin, Kaepernick, there you go, jerk.
Speaker 1 (38:57):
Yeah, that really disappointed Rich.
Speaker 3 (38:59):
And this is before the kneeling and this is nothing political.
I'm a Niners fan. This is before the kneeling down
and the socks and the you know, black lives matter.
I'm talking pre that. I'm at a party. Kaepernick is
in the VIP. Somehow, Covino and I find ourselves in
the VIP. I waited for just the right moment. His
boys weren't there, he was not with any women, so
(39:21):
I wasn't cramping them. And I'm like, yo, cap, big
fan Rich And at the time, I was working at ESPN,
and I said, Yo, can we get a quick pick.
I'm a big Niners fan, Yo, keep killing it. And
He's like nah, and he just dismissed me.
Speaker 2 (39:33):
And I'm like sad, it really was what And granted, look,
everybody has a bad day. We got to keep that
in mind when we have these discussions. You got to
give people like maybe two chances. Sometimes maybe they're in
a rush, maybe you rub them the wrong way, maybe
you don't know how annoying you are, right And yeah,
you know, I'm getting feedback. Now, Rich, this might disappoint you.
(39:55):
EP Workshop hit us up at Covino and Rich EP
Workshop says, me and a friend ran into.
Speaker 3 (40:00):
Debo, Oh Debo from Friday. I thought it was your boy. Okay,
so this makes sense.
Speaker 2 (40:07):
So actual d named after Yeah, Theeseer's lister. He ran
into so Debo from Friday at Pomp's Casino in Las Vegas,
and my friend asked for a photo. Deebo stood there
for a second and then said take the MF and
photo and he meant it and he said.
Speaker 1 (40:27):
Trying to like be the characters. Maybe.
Speaker 2 (40:29):
My friend asked if I wanted to the real quickly
exactly right?
Speaker 1 (40:33):
What chain yo?
Speaker 2 (40:34):
So look, you might get a weird reaction one time.
You get might get it positive another time. But that's
the risk of meeting your heroes. And I think when
Benyama had pretty good win, ben Yama had a pretty
good uh I guess analysis, you know, an assumption that
he made from seeing his heroes not putting the work
(40:57):
effort in.
Speaker 1 (40:58):
Now I do have.
Speaker 2 (41:00):
I'm not gonna call all the names out there, Rich
said Kaepernick, but there's a few comedians that I really
admired and I thought they were great, and then when
I met him in real life, they weren't as funny
in person as I wanted them to be.
Speaker 1 (41:12):
But in all reality like more, give us more more names.
Speaker 2 (41:15):
No, But like you know, in reality too, I could
be that guy. I'm very animated when I'm on the radio,
it's not fake, but in real life I might be
a dud.
Speaker 1 (41:23):
I am there's some performance who turn it off.
Speaker 3 (41:27):
I'll give you I'll give you some names, but I'll
give you a name of a couple people that lived
up to being kind. I know not everyone loves him,
but the Hulkster has always been cool with. That's Hulk Hogan. Fantastic. Yeah,
Steve Young Danny g is a guy that the first
time we met him slight, cold shoulder and I was bummed.
And then we saw him again and he was the
nicest guy. So again, you can't judge someone on a
(41:50):
one time meet.
Speaker 5 (41:51):
Some celebrities maybe need to warm up to who's interviewing
that was that rich?
Speaker 3 (41:56):
Molly Molly Ringwold came on our show and she didn't
want to talk about any of the eighties movies, and
I was like, then, why do I want to talk
to you?
Speaker 1 (42:03):
Gird at He's.
Speaker 2 (42:05):
Like one of the Some people like embrace and lean
into the stuff that made them famous and they have
fun talking about it. Other people take the Gary Coleman
approach and they don't want to talk about what's talking about?
You know, what's a what you're talking about?
Speaker 5 (42:19):
Willis I had a hip hop moment like that on
a big rap radio station. The legendary rapper Guru of
the group Gang Star. Yeah, you guys know him well
from the East Coast. He's in the studio living legend rip.
He's he passed away from cancer, unfortunately, but he's in
the studio.
Speaker 1 (42:36):
We're so excited to have him in there.
Speaker 5 (42:38):
And he looks at me live on the air and
he's like, I don't want to talk about my old songs.
Speaker 1 (42:42):
I don't want to talk about the classic Yeah, he.
Speaker 5 (42:45):
Only wanted to talk about the project he was currently
working on. And he had a mean mug look on
his face like he meant it. Yeah, And everybody that
was standing around the studio, they all kind of were like, ah.
Speaker 2 (42:55):
So this is series when heroes disappoint. Granted, give him grace.
You may have caught him on a bad couple more.
But other examples and again I felt bad for wimbin
Yama because it's like it's like seeing behind the curtain
and you're like, that's what's going on.
Speaker 1 (43:15):
That's lame.
Speaker 3 (43:17):
I have a I have a couple more. I'm thinking
about our our the interviews over the years. Now, it
doesn't mean he's a bad guy, but you were talking
about not what you wanted. Like I'm a huge fan,
and the interview didn't change my opinion him. I still
love him. But Martin Lawrence was on our show and
I wanted him to be my and.
Speaker 1 (43:39):
Yeah, your expectation was wrong. Really, you know, that's really it.
Speaker 3 (43:43):
It was, so that was on me. I Dan, I
wanted Martin uh from the TV show. I wanted Mike Lowry.
I wanted Martin right, and we got like subdued, chill,
fun like good conversation but like.
Speaker 2 (43:57):
Like nice guy but not like you know, yeah making
us laugh Martin that.
Speaker 5 (44:02):
Yeah, I didn't have a good experience with that guy either.
He ran an hour behind for his interview time, and
then when he arrived he was not the nicest.
Speaker 1 (44:10):
Okay, so that's two examples. But he was nice to us,
you know, who was great working on the same film
though Bernie Mack, Oh, yeah, I can see that.
Speaker 5 (44:19):
Yeah, he like did his part and then picked up
Martin Slack.
Speaker 1 (44:25):
So it's sort of there goes my hero.
Speaker 2 (44:28):
He's ordinary, and it makes you feel like That's why
I never really wanted to meet guys like Derek Jeter,
because I'd rather keep them at hero status. I don't
want people like that to let me down. And I realized, like, ah,
he's just a dude, or.
Speaker 1 (44:43):
He maybe the coolest guy that ever was.
Speaker 2 (44:45):
I don't know, but I never met him, and I'm
okay keeping it that way for that reason, you.
Speaker 3 (44:52):
Know what, you know, what's interesting. I think sometimes when
you meet people in positions, guys that you think like,
oh my god, they must be like not not so smart.
But if you meet a man or a woman that's
in charge of something, sometimes you assume like they must
be a genius, and then you realize like, not really,
(45:13):
they're just good at what they do and they got
a good opportunity. Like that you felt when you met
Lanny Pofo, the late Great Laddie Pofo joking, that's exactly
the genius. No. I mean, there are times where I've
met people where I'll give you an example, really great guy.
But when I met Steve Phillips when we worked at
(45:35):
Sirius XM and he worked at MLB Radio, I was like,
you were the GM of the Mets and we would
talk baseball. I'm like, this guy just knows a lot
about baseball. He's a regular guy. He's just a really
nice guy. So you start to realize, like they're just
regular guys.
Speaker 1 (45:50):
This ordinary Yeah, I get it.
Speaker 3 (45:54):
As Dave Grohl said, there goes my hero, watch you
mass he goes.
Speaker 2 (46:02):
I have another takeaway from this too, man again, based
on Wymban Yama's experience in the NBA's first year, get
to it. After these phone calls, we got JK and Vegas. Right,
let's talk about de bot real quick eight seven, seven
ninety nine on Fox.
Speaker 1 (46:15):
What up? JK?
Speaker 7 (46:17):
Hey, how you guys doing great show again?
Speaker 1 (46:19):
Thanks man.
Speaker 7 (46:22):
You know, could have just dropped one hundred grand on
a game and a little paturned about that, So Vegas,
you gotta take things with a grain of salt.
Speaker 2 (46:30):
You never know, I'd say any time, to be fair,
to be fair, you don't know what anybody's going through.
They've been haggled that day. That goes for anybody true,
So I do want to.
Speaker 1 (46:41):
What if you've bumped into him twice? That's what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (46:44):
You know, if you have a few experiences, then I'd
say that's a better assessment. That's the word I was
looking for before. Now, Rich another takeaway and I'll take
more phone calls to eight seven seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (46:53):
Nine on Fox. Think about what win ben Yaba is saying.
Speaker 2 (46:55):
He's going there with this this certain level of expectation
of the NBA and what it takes to make it
and a certain level of discipline. It does go to
show you how many people are on the professional level
totally riding on their natural athletic abilities. Like I heard
somebody too this week and I can't it's drive me crazy,
(47:18):
But they were talking about how they don't really make
health their priority and how they eat. It was somebody
in the NFL, I think, and they're like, yeah, basically
I eat like crap. You know, want everybody know, Yeah,
my diet is ass and it's terrible, and eat I
eat McDonald's in fast food all the time, kind of
like Floyd Mayweather before a fight, right, yeah, and he goes,
But what I do is make my body a priority,
(47:41):
and I hit the gym and I get all the
treatments and I'm taking cold bats all the time, you know,
But it does bring a reality to you that like
some of these dudes are just riding off their natural skill.
They're not putting that extra like Tom Brady like of
like effort into And imagine how great other people could
(48:01):
have been if they were fueling themselves and committing themselves
the way wim Bin Yama thought they were part of.
Speaker 5 (48:07):
Its DNA right, because remember last year DK Metcalf came
out said he eats only one meal a day and
it was candy.
Speaker 3 (48:14):
And that dude's a freak. He's ripped, he's shredded, and
he's eating.
Speaker 2 (48:17):
Candy like that all the time. So again I could
see where wim ban Yama's coming from. He's like, yo,
he's trying to put weight on. He's probably got this
crazy level of discipline. He's in the NBA, and he's
seeing all these other dudes like just riding on their
natural skill.
Speaker 5 (48:33):
That's the way shak just used to show up like
all right, I'm here and Kobe's problem. Kobe was like,
are you serious?
Speaker 1 (48:39):
Man? I killed myself getting ready for this right now.
It was his biggest criticism.
Speaker 2 (48:42):
What did he say he'd have more championships if he
would have took his health more serious.
Speaker 3 (48:48):
He said they would have ten.
Speaker 2 (48:49):
Yeah, so that's what his realization is. And it's sort
of awesome yet disappointing. And you know what, when you
really put it in perspective, it gives guys like Wim
Yama and edge. It gives you an edge because that reality,
when you have that epiphany, you realize, yeah, that dude's
no better than me. Spot, he's got the t and
(49:15):
he's gonna spill it, Danny G. And I came up
with one more answer. I'll say it, Danny G. You
don't have to say it.
Speaker 5 (49:24):
Yeah, I held back in the last segments. I didn't
want to sound like an S talker, right right, I.
Speaker 3 (49:29):
Know what it was to a girl didn't live up
to the hype. No, No, she's great. I think she's
I think she's exceeded that.
Speaker 1 (49:36):
She rescues pets from Shelton. Yeah, she seems to be
a nice person.
Speaker 3 (49:40):
I like her. Oh no, I was saying the move anyway.
Speaker 1 (49:43):
Oh the move?
Speaker 2 (49:44):
No, no, no, no, rich I want to see if
you remember this. We're talking about when heroes sort of
disappoint because wem Bin Yama was sort of disappointed to
see how so many of his heroes in the NBA,
I'm just going through the motions, not really committed to
put in the w And you know what, that's a
weird eye opener for a young kid that can't even
(50:05):
legally drink, right. I mean, he's thinking, these guys must
put in all the effort in the world, and he's thinking, well, oh,
I guess they don't.
Speaker 1 (50:12):
But again, the silver lining is that gives him the edge.
Speaker 3 (50:15):
Man.
Speaker 1 (50:15):
It really does in reality.
Speaker 2 (50:17):
But I remember being really excited to meet a hip
hop legend, a legend, and I wouldn't have brought this
up until Danny G confirmed that he had a similar
experience more than once. But Rich and I interviewed jay Z,
and I remember it going well, but it was still
(50:38):
jay Z, so there's still that awkward feeling. But I
remember saying, all right, man, hey, mister Z, thanks.
Speaker 1 (50:45):
For being on the shows Z.
Speaker 3 (50:48):
I remember when this segment ended, I'm like, all right, man,
thanks for being here, man, appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (50:54):
Let's get a pick and he went nah, And I
was like, oh, for real and he like, totally rich.
When you think back, how many people have denied you
as the host a pick?
Speaker 1 (51:06):
Not many, bro, And it was jay Z that comes
to mind for me. Not many.
Speaker 2 (51:10):
No one else really denied me a pick of someone
that was a guest.
Speaker 1 (51:14):
On our show.
Speaker 5 (51:15):
I got him back for you cove to this day,
he does not like my face. I had three three
interactions with him. Yeah, and the last time he agreed
to be on my radio station to do an interview.
So I'm there excited and got the station cell phone
right right.
Speaker 1 (51:29):
It was cool.
Speaker 5 (51:30):
I'm like, all right, maybe personally he's not that nice,
but professionally he's a dope rapper okay, and the listeners
want to hear him.
Speaker 1 (51:37):
It was his album release. So I get there.
Speaker 5 (51:40):
I'm excited, and he's at this album release party that
he threw on the West Coast for this side of
the country. And I get there and his manager tells me, nah,
you know what, we don't have time for it actually,
and I'm like, no, I'm not going out like that.
So I get the station cell phone, walk up to
jay Z and I said, dude, you're live on fifty
thousand watts and I pushed the phone in his face
(52:01):
and he had to turn it on and he talked
about his album and everything.
Speaker 1 (52:04):
He got all friendly. After the eight.
Speaker 5 (52:06):
Minute interview, he looked at me and he said, don't
you ever bleep and do that to me again.
Speaker 1 (52:10):
Wow.
Speaker 5 (52:11):
He was so angry. Made me get out of the
VIP area. But hey, I got the interview.
Speaker 2 (52:15):
So look, hey, Danny g did his thing, but he
had a similar experience. Man Like, he denied us of
a pick and I have no pick to prove that
he was on our show. And we had that moment
Sam before we move on, you got something?
Speaker 6 (52:29):
Okay, I'm sorry real quick. Do you guys know who
Ram Emmanuel is? He was the mayor of Chicago. He
was also in Obama's cabinet. I was in Chicago's twenty eleven.
I was there to see Soundgarden and I was in
a diner the next day and he was there and
I go and I follow him. I walk up to
him and he's like waiting to get into the bathroom
and I'm like, oh, mayor, mister mayor, can I have
(52:50):
a pick? And he's like yes, we'll meet outside, but
I'm going to use the bathroom first.
Speaker 1 (52:55):
And I was like, I'm sorry, I really didn't mean
to make this awkward.
Speaker 3 (52:57):
And so well, you know what he took the pic
with it was it was it was at little weird
that you peeked over the urinal to take the photo.
Speaker 6 (53:04):
It was outside the bathroom, but I was like, he's like,
let me use the bathroom first and I'll meet you
outside for a minute.
Speaker 2 (53:10):
I thought you were gonna say something about Chris Cornell.
I was ready to beat you up. So I'm glad
it was that guy.
Speaker 1 (53:14):
Chris Cornell could treat me like dirt. Yeah, blessed.
Speaker 2 (53:18):
So we do this every Wednesday, do we? Yes, we do.
Let's do it.
Speaker 8 (53:24):
Covino and Rich get you over the middle of the
week when mid Week Major. I love that we throw
sports and pop culture headlines and topics at the fellas
and it's like, the kids.
Speaker 1 (53:37):
Say, that's some.
Speaker 8 (53:38):
We definitely see it our scoring mid Week Major.
Speaker 5 (53:46):
Remix because we got to give Spotty at least seven
full minutes here all right, before we hand things over
to the number one and only host of the segment.
Usually we roll the big sticky red Love dice in
the main studio, but riches away for the Mets game
in New York. Coveno's in the home studio, So Coveno
from Peacock. I have the Ben Maller Ben the penny.
(54:07):
What is its hit TV show? Yeah, his ass penny.
Yeah it might be a quarter, but this is theater
of the mind. Spot stop ruining it, all right, all right,
So Covino, you call in the air, go heads, it
is tails. Hopefully that's gonna be the only win for
rich tonight, all right, bitch.
Speaker 1 (54:26):
And so that means uh, yeah, I'll.
Speaker 3 (54:29):
Receive it in the second half.
Speaker 1 (54:30):
I'll care o.
Speaker 5 (54:30):
Wait, no, no, receive That means rich gets the first take.
And now, ladies and gentlemen, the most famous person besides
Judy Bloom from Scotch plains New Jersey, spotty boy.
Speaker 4 (54:41):
I'm gonna lead with the juice because you guys could
be no time. I'm very upset about. Oh it was
the jew You have seven minutes seven minutes. Rumors are swirling.
Listen up, Danty g. This has to do with you.
Rumors are swirling that the New Raiders owner Tom Brady
has plans as part of his first order of business
to Lord none other then Bill Bellich check for the Las.
Speaker 1 (55:00):
Vegas Raiders as the head coach. I don't know, so.
Speaker 3 (55:06):
That's what I consider the source podcast os Kurt as
a Kirk Minihane Minahane, Yes, oh.
Speaker 1 (55:12):
Kurt Mannie, Yeah, Kurt Mannie's legit. He's one of the
nicest guys. I'm sorry, an idiot. What what do you say?
Speaker 4 (55:20):
Rich?
Speaker 1 (55:20):
Anyway, he made the claims on his podcast there's a there's.
Speaker 3 (55:22):
A there's a bootleg Kurt Metafe account. I want to Menifee,
not Metafe, not Metafe.
Speaker 1 (55:27):
Now you can Menahane. I didn't say Menafee.
Speaker 3 (55:32):
I know who Kurt Metafie is.
Speaker 1 (55:34):
Made the claims.
Speaker 3 (55:35):
It's like that. It's like that touch.
Speaker 4 (55:39):
On the show, but it was h He made the
source on his podcast that two people high up in
the Patriots organization, which I don't know what has to
do with the Raiders, uh say, told him that Brady's
first movie's owner is going to be to bring in
Milichick uh current owner or current head coach. Antonio Pierce
said that he saw Brady around the hallways meeting with
the higher up, So who knows could be in the works.
(56:00):
Midweeker major wrench, that's my juice, you go first, mid major.
Speaker 3 (56:04):
This is weak sauce. Why if it's true, why because
it's not Kurt Benafie, this guy, this guy reporting, he
does a barstool podcast.
Speaker 1 (56:16):
He knows people, maybe people.
Speaker 3 (56:21):
Maybe there's some juice to it. I think if Belichick
were to go to the Raiders with Tom Brady, that
would be big for Danny G. So maybe it's not weak.
Maybe it is major, But I don't know if there's
much juice behind it and Danny G. As much as
Bill Belichick as a winner in the past, is he
the vibe for the Vegas Raiders.
Speaker 1 (56:37):
I just don't think so.
Speaker 5 (56:38):
I mean, he needs a really good quarterback obviously, and
they are in position to hopefully draft one of the
top quarterbacks.
Speaker 2 (56:45):
I mean, we just talked about how Brady put out
this letter of commitment to the Raiders fans last night,
a commitment to excellence, and how his sole goal is
to bring victories and wins to the Raiders nation. If
he's serious about it, you don't think he'd reach out
to a guy that needs a job that he works
so closely with. It's not that impossible to think. Is
(57:08):
there juice to it? I don't know, But does it
sound like it's as possible. I think as possible. I'd
say if this were true, and maybe that's why they
wanted to work with Brady because he has these type
of connections and relationships, I think that could be major.
Speaker 1 (57:24):
All Right, hates bringing it up. We all know that, Minnie.
I didn't say, Kurt, I said Kirk, Kirk Minihane regular.
Speaker 3 (57:38):
We all know Taylor Short knows her way around a kitchen,
always whipping up treats for friends and family, even the team.
Speaker 1 (57:44):
Well, the chiefs QB. Patrick Mahomes revealed that one of
the perks of having.
Speaker 3 (57:47):
Swift as a Chief Swag is that she's been spending
some time in the kitchen with Mahomes' three year old daughter, Starling.
Mahomes revealed on The Drive podcast yesterday that his daughter
is a big baker and she and the pop star
and whipping up some treats. He's tried some muffins and
donuts courtesy of the Pair, and Mahomes confirms that she
is as good as everyone says.
Speaker 1 (58:07):
So Maydewe curve major.
Speaker 3 (58:10):
I saw that. Harrison Bucker said major.
Speaker 1 (58:14):
Definitely major. That's horrible. That's horrible.
Speaker 3 (58:20):
I think I think it's great. Manichose she's a regular person.
It's great cooking with Mahomes kid. What's what's sweeter than
that they have a true bond. Brittany Mahomes and Tailor friends.
Forget the rumors that there's a political divide, and it
humanizes Taylor Swift. Major tada, Definitely major.
Speaker 2 (58:36):
I couldn't agree with Rich Moore. Definitely, major, totally major.
Speaker 3 (58:39):
Imagine having the pull for Taylor Swift to be making
cookies and muffins with your kid.
Speaker 1 (58:46):
He's the coolest dad in the world. That's the greatest.
Speaker 2 (58:49):
It's so major because all you want to do as
a parent is to create these memories and moments for
your kid and to make them happy. Taylor Swift doesn't
get bigger than that.
Speaker 3 (58:57):
Yeah, and I'm gonna argue that my Harrison Bucker joke.
I thought it was fantastic, But it took me a
second and I thought I was so impressed that I
was in shock.
Speaker 1 (59:06):
I don't want to I don't want to draw it was.
It was that good, all right? I talked. I believe
it was.
Speaker 4 (59:11):
Last week we talked on the show about Jake Paul's
five million dollars side bet with Tyson about the first four,
he won't make it four rounds. Well, one lawyer is
making waves for and calling for Paul to be investigated.
Combat sports lawyer Eric Listen to the name Eric mcraken
says that the bet.
Speaker 1 (59:29):
I don't know, it doesn't matter, not aware.
Speaker 3 (59:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (59:31):
Kurt Metafee says that basically that he's offering Tyson to
take it easy on him for the first four rounds
and if it's a professional fight, side deals that can
impact the outcome is not a good look. He reached
out to the Texas Sports Commission, who actually responded saying
they can't regulate private agreements made by licensed contestants. He's
also trying to get you know, the betting sites involved
(59:51):
and saying that you know, affects the integrity of the
match and the bets that are being placed on the
fight midweek or major a week.
Speaker 3 (01:00:01):
Because I think Tyson is don't want to have to
go to Jake Paul Tattoo. I think, and the deal
isn't if Tyson knocks him out in under four rounds,
it's if he last four rounds. I think no one
should be getting involved. It's a fun side bet. I
don't think it determines the outcome of the of the fight.
It's like when Pete Rose bet on himself.
Speaker 2 (01:00:19):
Yeah, and I think it takes away from the legitimacy
of what we want this fight to be.
Speaker 1 (01:00:24):
So I agree with Rich that's sort of weak. Right, Yeah.
One more?
Speaker 4 (01:00:29):
All right, okay, uh okay, I'll squeeze this one in.
Donald Trump appeared on the Barstool podcast Busting with the Boys.
One of the talkings topics that came up was his
twenty fourteen bid to buy the Buffalo Bills. He said
he put in a bid for about one million alongside
it was one of the three final bids.
Speaker 1 (01:00:46):
Him stop doing that him. Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:00:49):
John Bon Joey was part of a group that was
for the bid, but the time Boy John Boy, No,
ultimately John Boy went to the owners of the Buffalo Sabers.
Trump did go on to say it, I thought this
was interesting. He said that the current owners did a
great job. They made a great pick. Josh Allen, great QB.
Really like what he's doing there. Great pick in Josh Allen.
(01:01:10):
So midweek or major. I think it's major when you
think of a butterfly effect. If Trump had won that bit,
he would never probably run for president. And it would
have just changed the trajecory of everything in our lives.
So I think it's major, and I think Josh Allen
must be like, Wow, Donald Trump likes me. Again, I
agree with Rich. I think this is major.
Speaker 2 (01:01:30):
Whether you like Donald Trump or not, the fact that
he is aware of Josh Allen and his greatness.
Speaker 1 (01:01:38):
You know how cool that must feel. That a president
is like a chin of you. You know.
Speaker 2 (01:01:43):
Again, whether you're a fan or not, it has to
make Josh Allen feel pretty cool.
Speaker 4 (01:01:46):
I'm gonna do my dance for him. All right, thanks guys,
thank you. Spotty will be more time next week please.
Speaker 2 (01:01:51):
All right, So again we got more CNR on FS
song you eight minutes. We got Coveno and Rich live
from the time IRAQ dot com studios.
Speaker 3 (01:02:02):
All right, let's go to Isaac Wowingcrawn.
Speaker 9 (01:02:05):
Well, I thank you, fellows. We'll start with some significant
news in Major League Baseball. The Athletic reporting this afternoon
that Jerry Reinsdorf is open to selling the Chicago White
Sox and is in active discussions with a group led
by former Major League pitcher Dave Stewart. Let's check in
with White Sox fans.
Speaker 1 (01:02:23):
Oh, please don't please, don't please please anyway.
Speaker 2 (01:02:28):
Tomorrow, Lebron not answering for his kid anymore, as his kid,
a man is his own man. What is a man?
What's an adult in today's world? And rich An he
surprises tonight? Any changes, anything's to look forward to. As
the Dodgers get ready for the Mets, the Yankees are
taking Austin Wells out of the lineup and putting Trevino
in Tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (01:02:46):
They're making some moves.
Speaker 3 (01:02:47):
Well, I saw that the Mets are putting JD Martinez
in the lineup. Ah, So that's always scary because like,
do you want to mess with things at this stage
of the game.
Speaker 1 (01:02:57):
Yeah, let's go JD hit into a couple more double plays.
Speaker 3 (01:03:01):
JD's Danny, you know from when he was on your team.
He hit some bombs. But JD's great for rolling into
a six, four to three double play.
Speaker 2 (01:03:08):
That's always the question, like you do you make these
adjustments now? Well, good luck to both your teams tonight.
Speaker 3 (01:03:14):
Enjoy until then, ribaderci baby, see you in the pid.
Speaker 1 (01:03:19):
Let's go, mat Go Dodgers.
