Oh. We couldn't do it ourselves on this Thanksgiving No Way.
Iowa Sam has been hanging out on our special.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
Episode of It's the Buyer and Torres Friendsgiving on Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (00:31):
Iowa Sam the first to arrive, right after him producer
Shay Shay showing up. Shae, you're enjoying the festivity so
far on the show. I'm full.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
He is full feeling Shaye. See you said you were
out a little late last night.

Speaker 4 (00:44):
You know, I got my food in me, my sports,
I got everything I need. I'm ready to go and
I'm happy.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
It's great to have you here. Big thanks to all
of our guests who've been able to show up and
have a good time. Let's keep it rocking here more
friends stopping by our Friends Get episode. Tim Patrick of
The Lions came in. He heard about the great time
we were having. In fact, you're going to hear from
him in just a little bit because you won't believe
what he had to say on how the Lions and

(01:11):
Bears game finished today. Still can't get over this is.
You know, we had Bernie Franto on about thirty minutes ago.
Aaron and Bernie was telling us all about the history
of the Thanksgiving Day game in Detroit, and I've never
forgotten the missed coin flip call and overtime between the
Steelers and Lions. This is going to be one of
those that we remember just for the pure botching of

(01:34):
how the game ended. Maybe not as crazy as the
ref thinking the player said one thing instead of the other,
but still for the Bears to have one time out.
They got down to the twenty five yard line, heck,
got within the twenty, but a penalty ended up pushing
him back to leave with a timeout in your pocket.
When you hear how the Bears explain it, you're going
to even be more confused at how it went down
today in Detroit's crazy happenings.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
Yeah, I mean it was even hard the first few
times we were trying to explain it to the audience
live that might be in a car or whatever, because
it's just it was one of those things that was
so inexcusable. You know, I don't want to put words
in the mouth of a of an NFL player, but
I think even Tim Patrick, who was on the other sideline,
seemed pretty shocked at the late game execution from the Bears. So,

(02:18):
you know, listen, the Lions win again. The Bears, though,
were right, they were in position. I mean, whether it
was was to kick a field goal, whether it was
to get off a couple plays. Obviously Matt Eberflus will
get to some of his sound, but he claims that
there was another play to be run to try to
set up a closer field goal.

Speaker 5 (02:34):
Whatever it is.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
You can't deny that the that the Chicago Bears had
their chance, and you also can't can't deny what a
debacle it was down the stretch.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
And it was funny because we were on the air
as the game was winding down. We were in for
Doug Gottlieb on the Doug Gottlieb Show, now in for
Covino and Rich and our commercial break that we have
at the top of the hour was right as the
Bears had a fourth and fourth and they gotta what
I feel was a break. I did not think it
was a pass interference call against the Lions. I think

(03:06):
it was a bad call, but it set the Bears
up in lines territory first and ten at the Detroit
twenty five yard line with forty six seconds left. And
Annoy did this earlier. But for those that watched it,
you'll know what I'm talking about. And for those that
missed it or didn't see it, you need to know
how the sequence of events came out at this point,

(03:26):
First and ten at the Detroit twenty five yard line,
forty six seconds left, and the Bears, who are down
by three, have two timeouts in a twenty three to
twenty game. So you're sitting there saying, there's forty six
seconds left, we have two timeouts to heck with a
field goal, Let's try to score a touchdown. We could
score a touchdown here. Worst case scenario is a field

(03:49):
goal attempt, especially after you had your scenario a couple
of weeks back against the Packers when you settled for
your forty six yard field goal. Different circumstances, but the
Bears drive started at their own one yard line and
they had made it all the way down to the
twenty five. This is what happened. Incomplete pass to DJ
Moore only took three seconds off the clock. Second down

(04:10):
and ten at the Detroit twenty five. Well, guess what.
The Bears messed it up, ran the play clock down
and ended up having to call a timeout. They had
two of them. Not the worst thing in the world,
saved five yards whatever, but they used that timeout. So
now they're down to one. Then on their second down
and ten when play from the twenty five, when they

(04:30):
actually ate were able to run it, Caleb Williams said,
Keenan Allen for twelve yards down to the thirteen yard line,
but that was negated by a penalty illegal use of
the hands backs them up ten. So it's second down
and twenty now at the Detroit thirty five yard line,
thirty six seconds left. If you wanted to, you could
kick a fifty two yard field goal. Bring it out.
Why not. It's indoors, it's in Ford field. We talked

(04:52):
about the long field goals that have happened there previously.
You could do it, but that wouldn't make any sense.
You want to get a little bit closer, considering what
happened against Green Bay, so Caleb Williams ends up getting sacked,
worst case scenario. But that's also why you have a
time out in your pocket, or so we thought. The
clock ticked, it ticked, it ticked. Finally, Caleb Williams, with
six seconds left, thirty seconds between snaps, ends up finally

(05:15):
taking a snap, and instead of throwing a quick out
for a field goal attempt or to get five yards,
he chucks it downfield and it's incomplete to Roma Dunze,
and the game just ends. It just ends. I want
to start out. That's a pretty good summary, Aaron, pretty thorough.
I would say, I'm not patting myself on the back,
but that's essentially how it went down today in Detroit.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
It was a phenomenal description, and I think what would
even describe it better of how chaotic it was, was
to listen to both radio calls of how it went down.

Speaker 3 (05:49):
All right, let's do that. Let's do that. Do we
have the Chicago Bears radio network call in this final
play for Chicago.

Speaker 6 (05:57):
Fifteen seconds, third and twenty six, Caleb's gotta make a
play here with eleven seconds to go in the game,
awaiting the snap, Gotta hurry it up. Seven to six,
takes the snap. Caleb Williams from the pocket sings it
down the field, twisting turning inside the five as time
expires for Roma Dunes. Ay, that's it, no flags, and

(06:18):
the ballgame is over. Everybody's standing around and stunned, disbelief
on both sides. Nobody's celebrating. But the game is over.
Something happened down the stretch here. It did not make sense.
Third and twenty six. That ball goes incomplete and the
Lions survived. Hey hillatious comeback by the Bears from sixteen down.

Speaker 3 (06:40):
The game is over. The game, the game was over.
I can understand the Bears despair. Didn't mean to rhyme there,
but I can understand the Bears despair.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
Yeah, I mean you could hear just the deflation in
their voices of watching it in real time, clock ticking down,
you have the time out, you know what has to
be done.

Speaker 5 (07:03):
It isn't getting done.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
And like I said, do you just hear it in
the voices of those two gentlemen making on the call.

Speaker 3 (07:09):
You're gonna hear the Lions final call at the end
of all this, because I think it just works better
that way. Because we're now in the despair era. If
this was the Taylor Swift era, that's where the Bears
were after this game. Wait till you hear what Matt
Eberflus had to say after the game in explaining on
how they ran their second and twenty and then handle
their third and third and twenty six play after the

(07:31):
Caleb Williams sack that basically ended the game. This was
the Bears head coach.

Speaker 7 (07:35):
Then we're there at second and twenty, you know, take
the sack right there, you know, So we're at thirty
six seconds right there, and our hope was because it
was third going into fourth, that we would we wreck
that play at eighteen seconds, throw it in, bounce, get
into the filgal range, and then call the time out.
And that's where it was. And that was our decision
making process on that. Again, we were outside the field
goal range, you know, so we needed to get a

(07:56):
few more yards in there as close as we can get,
and then we're going to call time out. And that's
why we held that last time out at the end
of the game.

Speaker 3 (08:03):
I like what we did there.

Speaker 7 (08:06):
Again, once it's under seven, you know you're gonna you're
gonna call, uh, you know, time out. There or actually
under twelve and then really you don't have an option,
you know, because it's third and fourth.

Speaker 3 (08:13):
You got to throw it.

Speaker 7 (08:14):
Into the end zone. Then, So to me, it's uh,
I think we handled it the right way, and I
do believe that, uh.

Speaker 3 (08:19):
Just rereck the play, get.

Speaker 7 (08:20):
It in bounce and call time out, and that's why
we held it and didn't work out the way we
wanted it to.

Speaker 3 (08:25):
Okay, so those cuts we're backing back. Go ahead, aeron
twit can.

Speaker 2 (08:28):
I can I ask you a question since and one
of the previous shows, I forget if it was the
hour one of Covino and rich Or Gottlieb, you said,
and I think it made sense.

Speaker 5 (08:38):
Is that Matty.

Speaker 2 (08:40):
Eberflus saying what he says for job preservation mode. If
you throw your players under the bus, if you throw
your staff under the bus, it doesn't you know.

Speaker 3 (08:52):
Next job preservation?

Speaker 2 (08:53):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's the right way to put it.
I apologize you're absolutely right out not for this job,
but hey, in the future I'm gonna be interviewing you.
Don't want to be the guy that just crushed all
your players and coaches after a bad loss. At the
same time, though, my question for you if you actually
listen to what he just said, I actually feel like
that makes it much worse. Like I'd rather him just
come up to the podium and be like, I sucked,

(09:16):
my team sucked, we didn't do it.

Speaker 5 (09:18):
It's on me.

Speaker 2 (09:19):
I blame myself blah blah blah blah blah, rather than saying, well,
you know, we were trying to do this and we
could have set up that and it's supposed to be
at under seven, but no, no, it's actually under twelve.
It's like I would like if I'm a future employer
of Matt Eberflusen. To be clear, I don't think he'll
ever get another head coaching job if he does whatever.

Speaker 5 (09:36):
No skin off my back, I don't really care.

Speaker 2 (09:37):
But I just bring it up because that explanation, to
me was actually much worse than him just going to
the podium and being like, I'll be honest, that was inexcusable.

Speaker 5 (09:47):
It starts with me.

Speaker 2 (09:49):
I stunk. I thought we were prepared, were not. I
blame myself.

Speaker 3 (09:53):
You see what I'm saying. I got one hundred percent.
I see exactly what you're saying, clear as day, and
I absolutely agree with you. In fact, the first cut,
because we've blended them together. In the first cut, he says,
our hope is to take it around eighteen seconds. So
once the clock goes past eighteen that's when you hit
the emergency brake. That's when you break glass in case

(10:14):
of emergency and use that last timeout. And the reason
being is you then can use the entire field. He
said they needed to get more yards. He said they
needed to because again, for some reason, a team in
the NFL in this day and age is employing a
kicker that can't kick a fifty eight yard or indoors
doesn't That makes zero sense to me. But it's a
new NFL. There are rocket legs everywhere you can find one.

(10:38):
They chose not to do that. So when you don't
call the timeout at eighteen seconds, that is where he fails.
So I agree with you that he's telling on himself
because you then call the timeout in that point because
you know what you can do. If you do get
a completion, you could still run up and spike it,
you know, and that's if it's a first down, because
it's third down in that scenario, if you could get it,

(10:59):
or you could out of bounds, or if it's in complete,
you just bring it out there. That's where I thought
he kind of told on himself it was third and
long in that scenario. Yeah, I just why not just
call the timeout at that point? I don't know why
you wouldn't have a kicker at fifty eight yards if
you threw If you threw a six yard er out there,
it would be difficult to change the teams and you
couldn't call the time out and get a kick off.

(11:21):
But yeah, I just or at six seconds, when it's
at far eight seconds, just call it yourself and just decide,
all right, we're just gonna kick it here, because I
have no idea on what to do this. This is
what Caleb Williams had to say on why he threw
the ball in what was going through his mind in
the final seconds.

Speaker 8 (11:39):
I don't have a microphone to speak to coach or
anything like that, so there was there wasn't like any
huge communication that situation. You get a call with that time,
you gotta you know, you gotta try and get the
guys back. I get everybody lined up, so you go
run and play, and you know, we got lined up,
got the play, and then you know, I made an
adjustment because I saw the clock running down, knowing that
if we could plete a ball and you know in
bounds or anything like that, we won't have time to

(12:01):
kick a field goal or anything like that. So you know,
I made adjustment new Rome was either going to be
one on one or he was gonna you know, beat
the safety and be one on one there and you know,
try to give him a shot.

Speaker 5 (12:10):
We got the shot and miss.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
I.

Speaker 3 (12:14):
It's that thought process because if Roma Dunes catches that pass,
he's still two yards short of getting in and time
expires and you have no way to run down or
do anything. So that's where that explanation does. The Also,
the communication cuts off at some point, so the coaches
can't speak to you, he says. Obviously he can't speak

(12:35):
to the coaches, But you never can speak to the coaches.
You never have, you know, a scenario like that. So
if there was communication trying to get to Caleb Williams
to spike the football, it was likely after the communication
was cut off in your helmet, so they were unable
to do so. But he didn't handle it great. You know,
as the quarterback, you kind of have to know in
that scenario, and he was mad that Eberflus took the
time out when the play clock was winding down earlier

(12:58):
because he felt he was going to get the you know,
the snap off in time and instead they use their
second time out. Well, this time it's on him. He
has to know that you can't throw that pass at
six seconds. Again, apparently they weren't in field goal range,
which I don't get Aaron, Yep, it just is doesn't
make sense.

Speaker 2 (13:17):
It's you know, every profession has things where like you
just got to get the job done, you know. I mean,
you and I were on air all the time there's
breaking news that we might not have been prepared for.
Our bosses don't want to hear we weren't ready to
get the job done. And to me, one besides the
all systems failure from head coach to Caleb Williams to

(13:37):
et cetera, I think that's the part that's a little
bit underrated. Is to your point, don't tell me your
kickers down in field goal range. He's a professional. That's
what he's paid to do, that's what he's expected to do.
And so I could go on and on, but that's
another thing that stands out to mean I think it's
something that you brought up a few times that I
think has otherwise gotten lost in the shuffle, is that
that should be field goal range, or it should be

(13:58):
it should be at least a a range where you're
comfortable letting your kicker attempt it. If he makes, he makes,
if he misses, he misses. Guys miss field goals every week,
but it should be the range that you're comfortable enough
to give him an attempt. The fact that you're not
is just one more thing you can pile on this
specific this specific loss for the Bears.

Speaker 3 (14:16):
So they tried against the Packers, and they felt that
it was with the wind, forty six yarder, But how
much how much more difficult does that kick than a
fifty eight yarder indoors in Detroit? Right? You know what
I mean? Like I understand that the wind's gonna help you,
so maybe some of the yards are gonna take off.
But again I said that you're a nine iron from
Lake Michigan in November. Okay, that's that's never a guarantee.

(14:40):
You know, the winds in it's the windy city, you know,
for goodness sake, Like that's it's not a given. The
forty six yarder. I can't understand, but you can't kick
a fifty eight yarder like that's then why do you
have him as your kicker. That's almost a personnel decision
in that scenario, you know. To that point as well,
if they would have let the clock run down, and

(15:02):
I would have had a much better appreciation if they
said it was third and twenty. We feel our kicker
ad the leg. We didn't want to take another sack
there and throw it up, so we just were going
to run the clock down and attempt the fifty eight
yard or because of how we put ourselves in the
bad position with the penalty and with the sack, that
would have made much more sense. Also would have made

(15:24):
much more sense to just call timeout immediately after the
sack and listen, this does happen to the best of them.
One of the biggest things to happen with Super Bowl
forty nine and Russell Wilson throwing the interception at the
one yard line is how Pete Carroll thought Bill Belichick
was going to call a timeout. Belichick never called a timeout.
The Seahawks only had one at that point, and what

(15:46):
was going through Pete Carroll's mind how do I get
how do I get four shots at the end zone. Well,
the first time they ran it to Marshawn Lynch, he
brought it down to the one yard line, but he's
still thinking, I need three shots. I only have one
time out if I run it here. Because the Patriots
didn't call timeout, there's not going to be as much
time left on the clock. We may run out of time,

(16:09):
so I better throw the ball so I can keep
my options open on third down to run or throw
the ball. Problem was, they never got the third down
because he threw the interception. So like there's there's been
miss there's been timing and guessing and stuff like that
at the highest and highest of levels. Unfortunately for Matt Eberflus,
his have just happened in consecutive weeks for the last
two months, so that's where they are.

Speaker 2 (16:31):
So what you're telling me is two jobs from now,
Matt Eberflus is going to nail a late round pick
hand up in the Super Bowl.

Speaker 5 (16:36):
That's what you're telling me.

Speaker 3 (16:37):
Hey, crazier things have happened.

Speaker 2 (16:39):
Not Maddy Crazier. That would be pretty crazy. If we
were hosting on this thanks Giving twenty thirty one, and
Matt Eberflus as the coach of the Arizona Cardinals and
they're going to the super Bowl.

Speaker 3 (16:50):
It would be our fifty fourth friends giving here on
Fox Sports Radio. I think we have another guest stopping
buying a little bit, so we're going to take a
time out for that. Do you want to tell you
the Cowboys? We're up on the Giants thirteen to ten,
a minute twelve left to go until halftime in that contest.
Gonzaga earlier today, big win against Indiana. Tough one for

(17:10):
the the Hoosiers. Maybe not as tough as life is
with Yukon, But that's all we want to say.

Speaker 2 (17:15):
Eron Tores Well, I mean they well listen, well, you
Coon's got a good football program too right now. But
I was gonna say, at least Indiana's like, yeah, we're
a football school now, who cares?

Speaker 3 (17:23):
Right?

Speaker 2 (17:24):
But yeah, you know, we don't have to do the
We've already done the Matt Eberflus hot seat rankings. We
don't have to do the Mike Woodson hot seat rankings.
But I think Indiana basketball is going to be having
a new coach.

Speaker 3 (17:34):
All right. I do want to pay it off. You
got to hear what it sounded like on ninety seven
point won the ticket and the Lions radio network. When
the Lions close things out with the Bears on this
Thanksgiving Williams.

Speaker 2 (17:45):
With seven Williams with six takes the snap. This could
be the final play of the game. Throws it deep downfield.
It is a game outing in complete.

Speaker 5 (17:54):
That's it.

Speaker 2 (17:55):
That's it, that's it.

Speaker 3 (17:58):
What in the world with the Bears game?

Speaker 5 (18:02):
It's over?

Speaker 6 (18:04):
Man, you talk about the world of practice managers over.

Speaker 3 (18:08):

We're good, all right. That's good for me. Dan Lust

You can you can find him on x previously known
as Twitter on at sports law Lust. Baker Mayfield's not
happy with his family. He's suing his family. What's going

(21:45):
out with the Buccaneers quarterback?

Speaker 10 (21:48):
You know, this is a weird case. It is one
which I don't really think is show atypical where someone
in a family like a superstar athlete makes a ton
of money, and then you know, that athlete helps the
rest of the family out. What is atypical is that
when that athlete calls and says, hey, Dad, like, what'd
you do with the money I sent you? And Dad

(22:08):
doesn't give an answer and results ultimately in what is
now a twelve million dollar lawsuit.

Speaker 9 (22:14):
So that is that is not typical.

Speaker 10 (22:16):
Right. Certainly we hear the stories of athletes losing their
money after they make it, but being stolen by dad
and ending up in a courtroom is very atypical. So
fortunately for Baker though, and as you guys know, he's
turned his career around and obviously got that big contract
with the Bucks or else, this would be a much
you know, I think, a darker story. But now it's
just you know, Baker's going to be okay either way.

(22:36):
Put it that way.

Speaker 2 (22:38):
Dan, you know, listen a little bit of a niche question,
But I mean, this is what you do best.

Speaker 5 (22:42):
So you are like a titan in the nil space
right now.

Speaker 2 (22:48):
And right now I'm sitting here my family house right
outside of Las Vegas, and there is a college basketball
tournament called the Player's Era Festival, in which I basically
call it the NIL tournament. There are guarantees made to
each team UH for participating in terms of NIL is concerned,
you know, upwards of a million dollars. There's talk of

(23:10):
expanding next year to sixteen teams. That would be a
sixteen million dollar prize pool.

Speaker 5 (23:14):
One.

Speaker 2 (23:14):
If you have worked on this and you have to
plead the fifth, I completely understand. But I'm just here
to ask you, like, like, how fee Like everyone's trying
to figure out ways to raise NIL money, but how
feasible is it to have an NIL specific tournament where
you're putting up a prize pool of millions of dollars
year over year Because obviously, just talking to people across
the college sports space, I don't know how that's going

(23:37):
to ever end up being profitable.

Speaker 10 (23:40):
You know, it doesn't have to be profitable, but if
you you have to. And I'm not involved with this,
so I can I give you any commentary I want you.
I'm more I'm involved in the Northeast team. We'll put it.
We'll put it as quietly as I can. No, But
I think schools and in this era of the transfer
port on nil, they have to show that they are
doing everything they can in that player's window, maybe it's
just a year, but to make that player as much

(24:01):
money as possible. So just being affiliated with with a
tournament like this where there's some extra earnings on top,
I think is important, and there's obviously extra eyes on this,
on this tournament, I will say, and I've told you
guys this, and I think you know, Dan, I think
you mentioned how long we've been speaking for I think
in the vicinity of three three and a half years.
I've gone on your shows before and I've told you
and it sounded pretty outlantic five years ago. I think

(24:23):
it's looking a little closer now that we might be
looking at a world where like the SEC or the
Big Ten, they don't they exist outside of the NCAA structure.
And I think we're getting closer there as you see
private equity money move into the space and tournaments like this,
these are so foreign to the traditional NCAA concept that
I think we're moving closer there. So to your point,
they will find the money, and if the money is

(24:44):
private equity and taking you out of the NCAA system,
I think all of that stuff is on the table.

Speaker 3 (24:49):
Dan lost joining us here on our friends giving here
on Fox Sports Radio. He's eron Torres. I'm Dan Byers.
We are in for Cavino and Rich So Bryce Underwoods
twelve million dollars to go to Michigan. Is that the
start of something or will it lead to the end
of things? If we actually do get some legislation regarding
an idol, you'd be surprised.

Speaker 10 (25:08):
I don't. Maybe it's just not as well reported, but
that stuff has been happening. Like the only reason that
that's a huge, mega story is because for some reason,
Larry Ellison decided to get involved with the bidding process,
which is very atypical. But when you outsource bidding worst
to fans. Right, normally we're dealing with cap and pro
sports and you're dealing with the team's budget. But if

(25:28):
Larry Ellison can come in, you know, the second richest
man in the world and move mountains to impress his
significant other, that's constant. He's not a booster of the school.
He didn't go to Michigan. So that's the start of
something new that might need to find some regulations for it.
But you know, if you're in the in the in
the business of player empowerment and getting players as much
money as possible. You love that Larry Elson just gave

(25:50):
ten million dollars to a program that probably didn't need it.

Speaker 2 (25:54):
That is a heck of a Christmas gift for your wife.
Oh hey, Or here here's a five star quarterback for
your alma mater.

Speaker 5 (25:59):
Hey.

Speaker 2 (26:00):
Kind of on the same subject with Nil, you know,
it's kind of a two part question. Is one, I
won't bore people with too many details, but basically, there's
something called the House Settlement, and everyone is under the
assumption that by next year schools will be able to
pay players directly as opposed to coming from fans and

(26:20):
what we call collectives and things of that nature. My
question for you is two parts. One, every lawyer that
I speak to, or at least some that I speak to,
say that we're actually not as close to that being
a done deal schools being able to pay players directly
as maybe it has been led to publicly. So one,
I would love your conversation on that. But two, I
would believe, and you hear mixed things about this, that

(26:43):
the fans are still going to matter from the perspective
of there's going to be a pool of XYZ. But
every once in a while there is going to be
a Bryce Underwood that you know, you have to go
above and beyond. So I don't know if those are
even two tangible questions, but it's kind of just a
bigger picture kind of where are we going with this
ile thing?

Speaker 10 (27:01):
Those aren't that complicated, And I'm with you. You know,
you guys know I host my podcast Conduct Detrimental, and
I've given this proverbial line at the fictional Conduct Detrimental
Resorts World the Casino. I think this settlement's going to
get approved. If I had to put lines in it,
i'd say minus I don't know, minus one seventy five
minus one eighty. Most likely it will. But there are
attorneys around the country that are trying to fight this

(27:23):
settlement approval. So not just a matter of will it
get approved by the start of next year, there are
attorneys that are being retained to fight this in its
entirety because they are saying, and you know, I know
we're short on time, but you know, in essence, this
is a way for schools to pay the players directly.
That said, it's essentially a cap of twenty million dollars,
which is a ton of money. But we just referenced right,
Rice Underwood goes to Michigan for ten million. So assuming

(27:47):
that twenty million is a cap, and it's a hard cap, Okay,
one player just got fifty percent of the budget, so
that you know, twenty million is no small chunk of change.
But there has to be other money coming from somewhere.
But I think the easiest way to think about this,
and I think that twenty million is obviously going to
decrease as more money comes into the sport. But I
think you know, you're going to have this secondary fund

(28:09):
that is going to operate just like it's been happening
in the collective space. The twenty million will help, but
just the money that's being spent at the power five level,
you know, you need much more than that. So it's
a way to try to keep the school somewhat in check.
But don't I don't think the current system is leading
with collectives and boosters. You know, the goal is the
schools can pick up more of that, so you're not

(28:31):
crowdsourcing to fans. But I think in the next five
years we're going to have some semblance of this system.
I don't think that's going away anytime soon.

Speaker 3 (28:37):
He's Dan Lust, and we are out of time. I
didn't even get to my Menendez brothers question. Ask you
I want to hear well, I don't know if it's
even in his expertise, but everything it'll have to off
the wait for another time. You got family to get to,
Dan Lust. Thank you for being a friend for all
these years. Have a happy Thanksgiving and we can't wait
to talk to you again. Thanks so much for taking

(28:58):
the time.

Speaker 10 (29:00):
Time, gentlemen, football and family the best day of the year.

Speaker 3 (29:03):
Damn Lost at sports Law Lost You heard him, the
sports lawyer, host of Conduct Detrimental, the Sports Law Podcast,
joining us here on our special edition.

Speaker 1 (29:13):
Of It's the Buyer and Torres Friendsgiving on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (29:18):
All right earlier, Yes, can I just ask really quick?

Speaker 2 (29:20):
Ye I know we're not supposed to talk politics at Friendsgiving,
but I assume you just want to know if you
if you think if you thought the Menendez brothers were
going to get out. I mean, listen, I know it's
not a crime show here, but come on this, this
this topic swept America.

Speaker 3 (29:33):
I think they are. I think that's going to happen.
I think that we're going to see him, see them
get out. But it's going to be now we have
to wait until at least January for it to happen.
So now, yeah, the heck with the Mannings and the
Harbaugh brothers. The the the brothers that we care about
are the Menendez brothers right now. That is the story
that you need to know.

Speaker 2 (29:51):
Lyle and Eric, Yeah, they're the new Jim and John
Summer saying.

Speaker 3 (29:54):
It's a special edition here of Cavino and Rich of
it's the.

Speaker 1 (29:59):
Buyer Friendsgiving on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (30:03):
So we had Dan Lust, Bernie Fratto, We've had Chris Gordy,
Jason Martin, Tim Patrick, and now we have Brandon Deutch here. Yes,
I knew he was coming. That's why I just I'm
standing outside. I'm walking up the walk Wayne. Yes, yes, yes, Brandon.

Speaker 4 (30:21):
Yeah, great to be here.

Speaker 3 (30:22):
You've been doing some behind the scenes work for us
here at Fox Sports Radio, hearing all of the postgame
from the Lions and Bears. What was your impression of
Matt Eberfluss's thoughts on how things played out?

Speaker 4 (30:36):
Not shocking by any means. I mean, you watched the
last six weeks, the ways mishandled games, That's kind of
what was expected to happen.

Speaker 3 (30:44):
And this is this is another reason why we have
Brandon here. Not only is he a friend on Friendsgiving,
he's taking up a big chunk of his Thanksgiving day.
Brandon is a beast on TikTok. Folks, Where can they
get your information, Brandon if they want to follow your
fantasy stuff, because it's not only football, it's not only basketball.
If you're on TikTok, you know who Brandon Deutsch is?

(31:05):
Is it just as simple as Brandon Deutsche?

Speaker 4 (31:07):
Yeah, it's Brandon s Deutsch on TikTok. I appreciate it.
Yeah at B R A N D O N S
says in Sam for my middle initial and then my
last name if you can't pronounce it, the e U
T S C H and iowa Sam putting the thumbs
up right there for my middle name.

Speaker 3 (31:22):
Also, middle name is Sam.

Speaker 4 (31:23):
Okay, it is Sam.

Speaker 3 (31:25):
I learned about you today. Yeah, a lot of a
lot of friends giving.

Speaker 2 (31:27):
Yes, yes, seventy k look at you Deutsch.

Speaker 3 (31:33):
I just dance. I just got.

Speaker 5 (31:36):
TikTok and I'm the boomer on TikTok.

Speaker 2 (31:38):
That's texting with one finger and I don't even know
what the heck I'm doing so Brandon a you know,
you might I might pull you aside, I might need
some content.

Speaker 3 (31:46):
I said the same thing to Brandon like a month ago,
and I'm Aaron, I'm older than you. I said, I
don't know how to do this stuff. He's like, yeah,
just let me know, Yeah, text me. Yeah, I got you. Guys,
what's the biggest key to that? Is it just keep
on doing stuff? Well you are like content create?

Speaker 4 (32:00):
Yeah, yes, of course, I think it's about Look, the
number one thing is you have to be in tune
with everything that's going on, right Like, that's that's imperative
for every single thing in sports media.

Speaker 3 (32:10):
Unlike Matdibraflus so just the opposite of Maddieberflus. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (32:13):
So technically, if something's going on, and especially in my
case fantasy football, let's say there's an injury report out
or there's something like that, people want to see it immediately.
You got to be the first person to do it.
News wise, people like sit start suggestions for fantasy in general.
But if you're just talking sports lists work. People love
visual stuff. Obviously, highlights can be an issue if you
don't have licenses. But you know, that's something that I

(32:36):
think people, it pops out. And remember, you got to
get these attention really quick because these people, a lot
of them, a lot of my followers specifically and TikTok
in general, like what ten to fifteen twenty maybe max
a lot of them, so their attention spans really quick.

Speaker 2 (32:50):
The one thing I will say, I think your success, Brandon,
it's niche too. Not niche in the negative way. Niche
in a pot. You're not talking NBA playoffs on one thing,
and then and you're doing fantasy football and then there
was a hockey fight.

Speaker 5 (33:02):
It's like, you come here for fantasy football.

Speaker 2 (33:05):
And I think there's an old saying they say niches
get riches, and I think that there might be something
to that.

Speaker 4 (33:10):
You know, well, yeah, I appreciate it. It's you know,
it's taken a Look. I met this one guy when
I was doing some work for the Roschmarczi show a
few years ago, and he had he has this handle
colder Moni buckets on TikTok. He does basketball. He taught
me all this stuff. He's like, look, you should start
doing TikTok. And you know, he has like one hundred
and seventy k he just does basketball.

Speaker 3 (33:28):
Highlights.

Speaker 4 (33:28):
He said, you should just do some football stuff.

Speaker 3 (33:30):
So that's great.

Speaker 4 (33:31):
And it just started on a whim.

Speaker 3 (33:32):
And Brandon's right because there are TikTok videos that I like.
After twenty seconds, I just move on from like I
even know, like there's more left, but I'm like, all
right next. You know, it's just good. I had nothing
against it. It wasn't that I didn't like it. I
enjoyed it, but I was just ready to move on.

Speaker 4 (33:47):
Yeah, it's it's a blessing on his TikTok's the place
to be a lot of people are getting their information
on there. They don't even check, you know, X or Instagram.
Sometimes they just go straight to TikTok.

Speaker 3 (33:56):
Now, well, thanks for coming by our friends giving and
you were doing a lot of work behind the scenes, Brandon,
So we appreciate it and having thanks Giving to your
our horse. Appreciate you having me. Yeah. Yeah, that's where
you can find him on TikTok. He is Aaron Torres,
I'm Dan Byer in for Cavino and Rich. We're gonna
wrap things up where you're gonna hear what Tim Patrick
of the Detroit Lions had to say about the Bears
late game dealings and Aaron Torus, do you have your

(34:20):
top ten? Did we do our eighty top ten?

Speaker 5 (34:23):
We did not?

Speaker 2 (34:24):
I mean I have it, but you know, listen, it's
it's friends giving. You know, you bump into people, you
have the extra glass of wine, you fall asleep, take
a nap. Sometimes you just forget stuff.

Speaker 5 (34:33):
It's okay.

Speaker 3 (34:34):
We are not gonna forget it because Aeron Torris is
top ten in college football. Plus you'll hear from one

makes you giving me a job today? And thanks to
all of our guests De Deutscher, Dan Lush joined Us,
Bernie Fratto, Chris Gordie, Jason Martin and you're gonna hear
from Tim Patrick and the Lions in just a little
bit but quickly. It's college football season. We are entering

(37:16):
a huge, enormous weekend. And you've heard of the college
football playoff rankings, and I know you've heard of the
AP Top ten. We had Fox Sports Radio off something
else called the at Top ten. Aaron Torres let's hear
at your top ten in college football. What do you
got entering this weekend set of games? Boy, what do
we want to go? Reverse order? Ten to one or
one to ten.

Speaker 3 (37:36):
Let's go one to ten.

Speaker 2 (37:37):
Okay, one to ten, easy answer. Number one team in
the country's the Oregon Ducks. Undefeated, only really tested against
the Ohio State Buck guys and Boise State, so easy.

Speaker 5 (37:48):
Number one there.

Speaker 2 (37:48):
Number two is Ohio State, Dan, you and I have
talked about it. Questionable Jeremiah Smith pass interference call from
potentially kicking a game winning field goal, something the Chicago
Bears were incapable of doing today. Ohio State at number two,
Texas at number three. We know the awards on their schedule.
They have not really played the best of competition. We're
gonna find out just how good they are this weekend,

(38:10):
but they are deserving of that third spot.

Speaker 5 (38:12):
Number four. Maybe a little bit of a curveball.

Speaker 3 (38:14):
I'm actually gonna go Notre Dame, all right.

Speaker 2 (38:16):
Yeah, we talked about it earlier in the show with
Jason Martin. I don't know if this is just the
vintage Notre Dame team that's beating up on bad opponents.

Speaker 5 (38:24):
But when you look at some of the statistics.

Speaker 2 (38:26):
On that team, especially the defense specifically, they really are incredible.
Number one in turnover marchin, number one in pass defense,
number one in yards per completion in terms of the
feuse yards per completion. So I have not to name
number four, number five Georgia. I don't care about the
two losses. I do care about the two great wins
Tennessee at home at Texas. Nobody has two wins quite
like that, throw in the win over Clemson. I have

(38:49):
Georgia at number five, number six. Listen, I think you
could go either or Indiana or Penn State. I'm actually
gonna give the benefit of out to Indiana. Everybody's talking
about no great wins. Well, guess what Penn State. It
has no great wins either. What Indiana has is they
have essentially destroyed everybody on their schedule that they're supposed to.
Indiana at number six, number seven, the Penn State and

(39:09):
Indea Lions. I'm still not really a believer, but to
be ten and one at this point in the season,
you can only play the games on your schedule. So
Penn State is at number seven, number eight. I will
give the Miami Hurricanes a little bit of a benefit
of the doubt here, only one loss, cam Ward is
going to be in New York for the Heisman Trophy ceremony.
And I think more importantly, we can't you know, we

(39:30):
can't talk about old misses a potential three three loss
playoff team. And I'm not saying you or I did,
but we can't talk about that without acknowledging that the
team they just lost to Florida got destroyed at home
by Miami. So I have Miami at number eight. Tennessee
number nine, very simple situation. They're winning, you're in against Vanderbilt, losing,
you're probably out, so we know it's at State for
the balls. And then number ten, I will say, SMU Mustangs.

(39:52):
Gotta give them credit again, you can only play the
teams on your schedule. Only loss was by a couple
points to what is now we now know is a
very good BYU team, So number ten is BYU. And
a reminder, rankings are not reflective of what the playoff
racket will look like because some of those teams might
not even be in, and the bracket is going to

(40:14):
look a.

Speaker 3 (40:14):
Lot there it is, you're eight top ten entering this
week in college Football part of Our Friends Giving here
on Fox Sports Radio in for Cavino and Rich. Our
final friend that joined the show actually joined earlier, Tim
Patrick of the Detroit Lions. He weighed in on what
exactly happened at the end of that Bears Lions game
today that saw his Lions beat Chicago. Here's a bit
of that from earlier. Can you explain to me what

(40:37):
was going through your mind as the seconds were ticking
away watching the Chicago Bears on offense in those final
waning seconds of today's game?

Speaker 9 (40:46):
Happy Thanksgiving to you guys who on Honesley. I don't
know what happened. I'm not having gonna lie to you.
I know a third and long. Obviously they didn't want
to spike you if they had a timeout. They didn't
call a timeout. I'll kind of shock. And then when
it up and they said the time is out, it's
not we want is there?

Speaker 3 (41:04):
Do you guys, do you guys have like a do
you have a procedure? Just like does does Ben Johnson
call the time out? Does Dan Campbell call the time out?
Or Jared Goff, like, do you guys have a plan
in place? If there ever is chaos like that? For
an offense at the end of the game.

Speaker 9 (41:17):
Yeah, we definitely have a plan and all that stuff.
That's why I was kind of I would just apply
that to happen. I'm not gonna lie because they had
a time out, right, Yeah they did. Yep, yeah, yeah,
that speaks for ourselves. So we'll leave it at that.

Speaker 3 (41:32):
Uh huh, we will leave it at that.

Speaker 5 (41:36):
Told us how it was. I mean, he was pretty straightforward.

Speaker 3 (41:39):
So I'll tell you what's this. This ranks up there
in the Thanksgivings, guys. I even wore my new Lions
hat today. As I told you, it's not new. I've
had it for like two months. Christopher Fatt's gonna be
at the updates of the anchor desk. Yes, this is
for you. Here it is. It's the throwback. Could do
it on Thanksgiving because the Lions were always meant to
be on Thanksgiving. How boys different matter. But they're about

(42:01):
to score against the Giants. Is they're already up three
aeron Torres. It's always fun, by the way, I lie
because Cooper Rush just fumbled and it was recovered by
the Giants. Lying on Thanksgiving? What else is new? It's
what family does when they get together, Aaron, be safe,
and we'll have to do it again next year.

Speaker 5 (42:18):
Happy Thanksgiving, Dan, thank you.

Speaker 3 (42:20):
Poor Aaron, Torres, Shay Iowa, Sam and everyone. I'm Dan Byer.
This is Fox Sports Radio. Happy Thanksgiving.
