Speaker 1 (01:28):
We want to.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
Kiss ass too, or no, I'm done kissing a. We've
done kissing ass. So I hope you had a Milwaukee
Bucks sore tonight. Congratulations.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
Do you mean when I said take the Bucks money
line yesterday? Yeah? Congratulations.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
Yeah, we didn't even know the Bucks were playing it. Yeah,
a half point underdogs, take the money line. Rich was
more interested in scones yesterday than he was the Bucks.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
That's true. Great conversation.
Speaker 2 (01:54):
So the Bucks win ninety seven over the thunder eighty one.
They're the Emirates Cup champion. We're gonna talk some NBA today,
plus like we do every midweek every Wednesday, Midweek major
the biggest stories in the world of sports and pop culture,
and we're gonna talk Devin Williams of the New York Yankees.
Yesterday we talked about Cody Bellinger and everything in the
(02:15):
world of the Yankees going on there.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
The Yankees, by the way, who were.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
Showing that with the pivot of not getting Juan Soto,
maybe they're better off. They're making moves like Bobby Fisher
bro making moves. So Williams, I didn't love her anyway
to say, you sound like, do you know what you said?
Devin Williams is forced to do something that he hasn't
done in six years as a New York Yankee. Should
he have to? We'll explain again. Hope you're having a
(02:40):
great day. Let's get into it. It's get involved. Let's
chop it up. Eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
Take a subway now.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
I want to talk about the NBA and my first
reaction and who cares about my first reaction?
Speaker 1 (02:56):
Right, okay?
Speaker 2 (02:57):
But Kevin Durant's first reaction and all the smack talk
that's been surrounding basketball. It's a great conversation I have
today because yesterday was a big night. Anyone tune in.
I bet you more people watched Aaron Rodgers new documentary
on Netflix than watched the Amirates Cup last night. Oh,
when you were saying champions last night, I thought you
met my men's softball team.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
Champions by the way. Congratulations, Yes, bring it back to rich.
Speaker 3 (03:22):
Even there at the Team Mobile Arena. My brother in
law went to the game because he was in Vegas
for the Raiders Monday night football game. He stayed in town,
went to the game, the Cup game last night. Lots
of empty seats.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
See, that's sad, and I'll focus on the positive. The
positive is you gotta give into new ideas.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
Right.
Speaker 2 (03:43):
I'm not mad at the NBA for trying out new things,
but we discussed why are ratings down. There's so many
reasons why there was no excitement for this Cup last
night when there should have been. I mean, we're at
the show that embraced the new ideas. In fact, who's
the idiot that said, oh, the golden at bat.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
I'm not against it. That was me, that was you.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
Okay, I'm fine with Rob Manfred. I was okay with
it too. I'm fine with innovation. It's just the NBA
has hit this roadblock. And I think if I was saying,
if you want to cueue up the Beastie Boys, sabotage,
I feel like the NBA is doing a little self
(04:26):
sabotaging and Alex flight Well. They also announced this week
in the world of innovating right that they're gonna do
their first ever mini tournament for the All Star Game,
four teams competing.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
In three games.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
Teams will race to reach forty points to win each game,
culminating in a championship match, and each team is drafted
live on TNT by Charles Barkley, Shack and Kenny Smith.
So the new All Star format is going to be
this little mini tournament. And I'm no NBA guru or insider.
(05:03):
I'm just a fan who grew up watching just like
you guys. I'm just a guy who likes to shoot
the basketball around and tune into the big games.
Speaker 1 (05:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
My first reaction and I'm opening new ideas. I like
the Golden Net bat. My first reaction was this is terrible. Yeah,
well I sounded too like convoluted and complex.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
He's like, why not just a regular game? Yeah, that's
the word tedious. Yeah. I didn't like In America, we
like one big game.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
I didn't like the sound of this little mini tournament
drafted by Shack and like get out of here with that.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
Well, I think what's what's going on in the NBA
is very clear. Listen, now, you y'all this a sabotage.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
The Beastie Boy said it best, like forty years ago, sabotage.
What do you mean sabotage? You think they're self sabotage.
The NBA is just doing The NBA is doing nothing
to help their own cause. Let me explain. When you
think of other sports you watch the NFL. Every announcer
(06:06):
stroking my homes, Josh Allen generational talent. I've never seen
a player like Jamar Chase Yo say Kwam Barkley.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
He's hopping over people doing you know.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
Backwards flips, and they sweat the players and they prop
up the game.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
Well, I always look at it this way.
Speaker 2 (06:23):
A broadcaster, which we dabble Enrich twenty years of this, right,
YEP is supposed to be honest, but you're supposed to
hype stuff up to get people excited about certain things.
You're giving them reason to tune in, reason to watch.
That's how I feel about it. If things suck, they suck.
You call it as you see it, but it's also
your job to enhance the good things. Otherwise, you as
(06:47):
the listener, the viewer, you're like, why am I listening?
Speaker 1 (06:50):
Why am I watching?
Speaker 2 (06:50):
If you're not making it exciting, or you're not enticing
me to be involved or get involved and you're just
boring me.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
I mean, imagine if we.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
Were to do a live event and we're gonna do
one in twenty twenty five to celebrate twenty years together. Yeah,
big party in Vegas. I think, big party at the
Spearmint Rhino.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
Who go.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
I imagine we will hype this up. Imagine if we're like, yeah,
it's not it's not gonna be that great. But uh,
you know if you want to go, but it, dam
it won't be that fun.
Speaker 1 (07:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
It's like telling your buddy, hey, man, you want to
watch this movie with me?
Speaker 1 (07:23):
Is it any good? It's I mean, it's all right.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
If that's your reaction to it, then I don't want
to watch the movie. You know, I want to watch
a movie with you. When you say, dude, wait till
you see this movie, man, wait.
Speaker 1 (07:35):
Till you watch it. Oh man, you can love it.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
I mean, if you're downplaying it, then why are you
wasting my time? I have certain buddies that are really
good at selling me on a show or a movie, like, oh, dude,
are you watching this this new show on Netflix? Are
you watching yo? Apple TV. You gotta be watching Silo.
It's all how someone sells it to you and who's
selling it that matters to And we've accused our video
(07:59):
producer your Spot of not being the best salesman of
shows like Spot.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
Damn, he just said you were boring his held Spot.
Speaker 2 (08:06):
I know.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
I said, sometimes I think you should watch Yellow Storm.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
I mean it's okay, like sometimes you just don't do
a good job of selling it. And what you're saying
is you think some people are not doing a good
job of also selling the NBA.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
No comment. I think that's what I think. Spot's the NBA.
Speaker 2 (08:23):
Let me explain. Oh okay, let me explain all the
other sports. I said, NFL, look at baseball, your pickleball,
a Rod Jeter, big Poppy, you know, rest in peace,
Pete Rose, Frank Thomas, All these guys would talk highly
of the game, Mark I, KB, Kevin Burkhart. These guys
(08:44):
elevate the sport, they talk about the sport they're essentially
kind of working for. Everything about the NBA is a
self criticism. Exhibit A. This morning I'm the Dan Patrick Show.
Charles Barkley is talking about how the game stinks.
Speaker 4 (09:04):
I watched the worst played the Mavericks. It's one of
the worst games I've seen. They just went up and
down the court and shot threes, and I was like, man,
this is awful to watch. If you're just gonna have
a three point shooting contest every night, your most important
thing of the game is the fan, and if they're
not watching, you can't keep your head in the sand.
(09:24):
You got to say, what are we doing wrong? And,
like I say, it's frustrated for me because all it
is now the three point shooting contests and a free
throw contest. I don't like it.
Speaker 2 (09:34):
If Charles Barkley doesn't like it, how are you supposed
to like it? If every hut who is the I
heard Jason McIntyre talk about this a little bit on
the Herd, but I had already been thinking of this myself.
If every night or a couple of days a week,
you're tuning into the NBA and everyone's fired up, people
love to say, what's the best pregame postgame show? Barkley
(09:55):
Shaq Kenny when they're only talking negatively about the sport
that you're trying to elevate. Barkley and Check just talking
about how the game's not as good as when they
were there. You know, it's not as tough, and you
know players aren't as physical. They're just shooting up threes.
He is also being honest. I don't want to pat
(10:15):
ourselves on the back like Barry Horowitz. But the minute
the ratings came out in the story of the ratings
drop in twenty eight percent came out, we here on
this show that they were saying, well, let's figure out why.
There's a multitude of reasons as to why. But we're
also saying, for as much as Steph Curry has done
for the game, essentially he's sort of ruined the game. Yeah,
because you got a bunch of people throwing up three
(10:37):
point shots and they're not Steph Curry. So it's taken
away from the game and the physicality of it and
the rivalry of it. Not to mention, maybe too many
politics involved in the NBA, and people were tired of
all that stuff. So we also speculated. So you can't
expect Charles Barkley to get out there and lie either.
But there's also that sense of he has to take
(10:58):
a positive approach if he wants to sell this sport
to other people, because when he's talking about it, and
when they're talking about and they're talking down about their
own sport, it's just magnifying what everyone's seeing already anyway.
Speaker 3 (11:11):
Yeah, and it also felt like in the line of
questioning to Barkley, he's just basically giving his take on
what the hot topic is the past few days because
Adam Sandler, the Adam Sandler, that's what he has been
a joke, Adam Silver, He has kind of been a
(11:32):
clown lately. This this European style tournament for the in season,
which is now the NBA Emirates Cup. We weren't we
weren't too fond of it last season, but we all said, hey,
we'll be open minded, we'll give it a chance, we'll
give it a shot. Then the Lakers wanted and everybody
made fun of him because there was a banner and
I was like, okay, well this is not pointing in
the right direction. And now last night the Bucks didn't
(11:54):
really want to pop champagne because they were feeling the
same way, like, hey, this is great, but this is
not an NBA tie. So we were all as Americans,
we're all kind of confused by that aspect of it
because We're into championships at the end of a full season,
not these in season tournaments. And now he makes that
Silver makes this announcement that the NBA All Star Game
is also going to be a soccer like tournament.
Speaker 1 (12:16):
And Danny g you nailed it.
Speaker 5 (12:18):
Man.
Speaker 2 (12:19):
We have a different way of thinking here in America.
It's as simple as that. And you're absolutely right. We
just want that one big game. When you start breaking
it down into these little tournaments, Americans are tuned out.
That's not how we have the patients. We don't have
the patience for it. We don't absorb sports that way.
We have an equation. The equation is you play halfway
(12:40):
through the sport, is like the best players play All
Star Game and then at the end we got a champion. Yes,
we are we simple, We consume and compute sports in
that we want that with some burgers and beer. Simple dummies. Yeah,
but that don't come The old way went perfect with
our beer, helmets and face paint. You start adding all
this other stuff, it starts getting confusing.
Speaker 1 (13:01):
We're not into it. And I'll be honest.
Speaker 2 (13:03):
I saw Kevin Durant's reaction to it, and again it's
the same line of thinking rich. When Kevin Durant reacted
to the new All Star proposal, his reaction was my reaction.
But I thought the same thing you thought, meaning, well,
that's not what you want the faces of your league
to be saying about your new ideas. So if Barkley
Shack and the main faces of the broadcast are talking
(13:27):
smack about the faces of the sport, and one of
the faces of the actual league, Kevin Durant, is saying this.
Speaker 4 (13:32):
I hate it, absolutely.
Speaker 6 (13:34):
I hate terrible.
Speaker 1 (13:34):
All Star Game four mass changing all the four mass
terrible in my opinion.
Speaker 4 (13:39):
But you should just go back to East West.
Speaker 6 (13:41):
I think we've been trying to, you know, bring that flareback.
Speaker 1 (13:44):
Somehow with the All Star weekend. But then you just
keep it traditional because we'll see how this one works.
You never know.
Speaker 4 (13:50):
I might be wrong.
Speaker 1 (13:50):
I'm just another guy with another I'm pinyon.
Speaker 2 (13:54):
And listen, that's the opposite of getting me tuned in, right.
I only want to go watch a movie. When you
tell me how good that movie is, you're telling me
you hate it. Guess what you're making me hate it.
I don't care about the All Star Game. I didn't
care about the Cup last night. NBA is bad. They're
throwing up threes, ratings are down, you're not selling the sport.
(14:18):
I don't know how it's been getting such bad pr
but now it's become the narrative of the NBA and
they need to do something really major that's not European
style tournaments to fix the problem. Listen, you could admit
it or lie to yourself. We are all influenced. I'm
not saying we're all influenced by influencers on social media,
(14:39):
but you could try to ignore it. But friends, family, coworkers,
they do influence you. Example, I'm figuring out what holiday
movie to watch with the wife when the kids go
to sleep, and I had heard so many people say
Red One with the Rock, which is now on Amazon,
was in the theater one too many people are like, yeah,
I don't know, dude, it's on of stinks. I started
(15:00):
watching it and in my head was like, stick, I'm
just noticing all this stink. You're jaded going into it.
The stinks is stinks, this stunks. I hate it. So
all we're saying is the NBA is not doing themselves,
and he favors by adding to the narrative of the
stink from the most prominent people in the sport, from
(15:23):
the shacks, from the Barcleys, from the Kevin Durant says,
you heard there. And if this dude doesn't like the format,
he does go on to say, hey, look.
Speaker 1 (15:34):
That's my first reaction to it.
Speaker 2 (15:36):
Maybe I'm wrong, He goes, Maybe maybe I'm just I'm
just you know, Yeah, I'm just the guy on opinion.
Maybe it's something that's gonna work. I'm just telling you
what I think.
Speaker 3 (15:43):
But that's exactly what you guys said when the n
Season Tournament came out last season. Yeah, and it was
I said, okay, open minded to it, but maybe this
is going to stink.
Speaker 2 (15:52):
It was fun maybe because the Lakers were involved, were
here in LA, right, but there was no buzz this year.
And I really think that narrative of the ratings are down,
the NBA is boring. I think that narrative has really
gotten all of our psyches, all of our brains, and
that's what we're seeing now, like, yeah, this sucks. Like
the awareness is out there now, the glass is broken.
(16:13):
There's a girl like, yeah, the stink. I'll make a
dumb analogy. If there's a girl and she's hot, she's
got a little bit of a big nose, and some
guy points out, like, yeah, she's hoping, we look at
her nose, and then someone else goes, yeah, she does.
She is hoping on girl at the big nose. And
now eventually it's like she went from the girl at
the hot bod to the girl at the big nose, and.
Speaker 1 (16:32):
The NBA has become the girl at the big nose.
Speaker 2 (16:34):
So many people have pointed out the NBA went from
the hot chick to like, she's hoping.
Speaker 1 (16:38):
We got big nose. Now everyone's like she's got a
big nose.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
It's it's a narrative they need to squash. But I
don't know how to look. I don't get paid the
big bucks to fix it.
Speaker 3 (16:47):
You know who doesn't care about big noses? The rest
of the world. He from Salam was on the network
yesterday evening as a guest on The Odd Couple.
Speaker 1 (16:54):
He made a great point.
Speaker 3 (16:55):
He said, you look at the past I think it's
five or six NBA MVPs and the MVP race last season.
European players the league of softened European style.
Speaker 2 (17:06):
That's part of the problem though, for as great as
they are. Danny g we don't care about them their names,
and they don't want to be the face.
Speaker 1 (17:11):
Of the league.
Speaker 3 (17:12):
Right, And the NBA marketing has gone worldwide and has
focused on other countries, not ours, because let's be honest,
they can't compete with the NFL.
Speaker 1 (17:21):
No professional sport really can. So.
Speaker 2 (17:24):
But the NBA was doing a great job of marketing
they're stars and the storylines for such a long time.
All of these things happened, and it left a bad
taste in everybody's mouth. Colin Cowhard made a great point too,
over the past few days. He said something about how
ratings dropped like fifty percent once Jordan retired, Right, and
(17:45):
we're seeing a drop off now that Lebron's on the
tail end of things. And the stars that they're marketing
aren't stars that necessarily want to be marketed and stars
that we gravitate toward, like like a Jannis or a
Yokich or anybody like that. They don't want to be
the face of the NBA. They're really not great faces
and ambassadors for the NBA.
Speaker 3 (18:04):
Well, this has been going on now since twenty twelve,
because the TV ratings since twenty twelve are down forty
eight percent.
Speaker 2 (18:11):
That's ridiculous. And I'll tell you what to make this
one full conversation. The new rules for the NBA All
Star Game, this little mini tournament is not it.
Speaker 1 (18:20):
It's not it. We don't like it. Kevin Durant doesn't
like it. I don't like it.
Speaker 2 (18:26):
And again the faces of the league when they're talking
down about it does nothing to help. Hey, Bud, they
really need to have a I'm not saying they need
to lie, right, lie, but they need to lift their
sports Yeah, I mean all right, it's uh. When you
work for a company, it doesn't even need to be
(18:46):
a sports league. You are an ambassador to that company.
You are essentially speaking on behalf of them many times publicly.
Your job is to elevate, not you know, put down
exactly the company you work for. That's part of good business.
Like Derek Jeter, do I really believe he drives what
(19:07):
was it?
Speaker 1 (19:07):
The edge? What was that car? Jeter's got the edge? Yeah?
Ford Edge?
Speaker 2 (19:11):
Do you think I really think Jeter drives a Ford
Edge in his prime? Get the hell out of you?
Would be I wouldn't even drive a Ford Edge if
they give it to me for free, I.
Speaker 1 (19:19):
Would, Hey, if anyone if anyone from Ford's listening to
give me no what, he's a sellout.
Speaker 2 (19:24):
I'm not driving a Ford Edge, But Derek Jeter made
you think Jeeter's.
Speaker 1 (19:27):
Got the I got the edge Ford Edge.
Speaker 2 (19:30):
Do I really think Shack drives in that little car
and has general insurance?
Speaker 1 (19:34):
No, it's a sale. It's a It's like selling a
call in sports.
Speaker 2 (19:38):
You got you gotta sell this man. That's why the
NBA is paying you guys the big bucks.
Speaker 1 (19:43):
And he does eat like ten Papa John pizzas at
a time. I believe that, and I get it.
Speaker 2 (19:48):
You know, you might not like how the game's being
played right now. You have to find a way to
still be positive or focus on the positives without putting
down the not as much as we criticize the NFL
at times, because you know, people just love to criticize
everything the NFL. Every time there's a rule change or
(20:11):
a head injury or something that you could very much
construe as negative, they don't harp on it. They try
to move along quickly. And sometimes the criticism is that
a player could do some you know, something bad, and
they move along too quickly because they the NFL is
like bro Unicorns, Rainbow Sunshine, NFL. There do you think
(20:31):
any announcers and analysts will would uh would spend an
extended period of time talking negatively about the National Football League. Meanwhile,
Shack and plus the Lebel would put a kibosh to it.
Shack and Barkley, who I love watching because they are entertaining.
Speaker 1 (20:46):
There are a couple old heads that are fun as hell,
but all.
Speaker 2 (20:49):
They're doing really is subconsciously telling you that it stinks
now compared to when they were playing.
Speaker 1 (20:54):
Right, watch this movie it stinks? No? Thanks? No, hey,
want to taste this stick? It sucks? No, I'm good.
Speaker 2 (21:02):
You know you're not selling me on it, So no, thanks,
I don't want it. And that's what he goes, Oh
smell this? Yeah, hey, this song stinks. You want to
hear it? Nope, that's really what we're getting from the NBA. Now,
I want to focus on your first reaction of this
All Star Mini tournament. Are we overreacting because again we're
saying we're open to new ideas, but not like European ideas.
Speaker 1 (21:24):
That's not how it works for us.
Speaker 2 (21:25):
You want to americanize it, O, thro's some hot women
in there or something.
Speaker 1 (21:29):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (21:30):
Free pizza for everybody. You know, this little mini tournament
not cutting it. Your feedback Next at eight seven, seven,
nine nine on Fox. What does the NBA do if
you're if you're in charge, if you're Adam Silver or
one of his cronies, how do you pivot?
Speaker 1 (21:46):
Pivot?
Speaker 2 (21:46):
How do you pivot to changing the narrative of the
NBA being you know, you need a new bad ass
face that people can get behind.
Speaker 1 (21:55):
That's that's a start.
Speaker 2 (21:56):
I think, Yo Wemby again, another foreign player and another
it's going to be who is again? Nothing wrong with
being a farm player. Let's get that traded. Just they
are not translating to the masses here in the States.
Speaker 1 (22:09):
That's that's part of it. Your thoughts.
Speaker 2 (22:11):
Next, covenon Wretch having some fun here on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (22:14):
Now.
Speaker 2 (22:14):
You know, like we love to take the show on
the road, right, We love to have fun, We love
to travel.
Speaker 1 (22:19):
We love our football.
Speaker 2 (22:20):
And when you're in college towns, you're trying to figure
out where should I stay? Obvious answer, Graduate by Hilton.
You gotta do Graduate. Their hotels are made for fans.
We just stayed at their new one in Auburn, Auburn Alabama.
Speaker 1 (22:33):

Speaker 1 (23:40):
Good radio.
Speaker 2 (23:41):
Seriously, they're a great, great product for anybody in your life.
Speaker 1 (23:45):
Really, I was Sam on the Ones and Tuesday. By
the way, I would say, who is this? Who is that?
That was? That's Trans Siberian Orchestra.
Speaker 2 (23:53):
Wait, the Siberian Orchestras trans now they oh goodbye.
Speaker 1 (23:56):
I set you up for that one. They make their
way across Siberia, very big space.
Speaker 2 (24:01):
It's a very famous song called ding Fries are done,
ding you something? We're just I like that. I went
to go see the Trans. Really, you've seen them. I've
seen them in concerts. So is Ryan Burshing here. My
wife and I went, and not that you care, but
it was the sickest I've ever been where I went
out in public, like you know, when you're like really,
(24:23):
I thought you were gonna say it was the sickest
show I've ever seen, the sickest, the most ill.
Speaker 1 (24:27):
Everybody was the richest Jordan flu game. I really was.
Speaker 2 (24:30):
But my wife really wanted to go, and I was
so under the weather and I went, I'm like, I'll
tough it out, misery, Like you know when you're like.
Speaker 1 (24:42):
It was like I was like, when are they going
to end? And it was a great show, but they
finished all.
Speaker 2 (24:46):
Their Christmas stuff, so I was like, oh, thank god,
you got a coffee.
Speaker 1 (24:49):
We'll go home.
Speaker 2 (24:49):
And then like, now that we wrapped up our Christmas stuff,
we're gonna play an hour.
Speaker 1 (24:53):
Of other stuff. That second uptick of COVID that was
because that was all me.
Speaker 2 (25:00):
Yeah, did you hate it more than Kevin Durant hates
the new All Star rule? If I hated it that much,
let's go to your phocals. We're talking NBA. What could
they do to change the narrative? Because if everyone from there,
the announcers to the broadcasters of the post games, of
the players as everyone's saying, yeah, the stinks, how are
we supposed to like it?
Speaker 1 (25:21):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (25:21):
And at the same time we're saying, I like the
new ideas you're thrown out there, but that doesn't mean
you have to stick with them. They're not all gonna work. Yeah,
I command new ideas. But let's go to the JD
in North Carolina. What's up, buddy?
Speaker 1 (25:34):
Can you know rich?
Speaker 5 (25:35):
Hey, guys, I got two words.
Speaker 2 (25:39):
You're gonna have to repeat those two I got two
words and then your phone went out.
Speaker 1 (25:44):
Say it again.
Speaker 3 (25:44):
Phone is as bad as the new All Star format. YEA,
hang on the line, JD. See if you get a
better connection.
Speaker 1 (25:50):
Jo only call back. I really wonder what is two
words are? Now? I know we're never going to know.
TJ in Riverside.
Speaker 7 (25:57):
Hey, how you doing?
Speaker 4 (25:58):
Guys?
Speaker 7 (25:58):
Love the show?
Speaker 1 (25:59):
Thanks man.
Speaker 7 (26:00):
Now my thing has always been I think the college
it starts in their college. I don't know any of
those stars. No, no more WNBA stars that are in
college right now.
Speaker 2 (26:13):
If you would have told me, if you would have
told me Cavino, Danny g Anyone that we would have
known more female collegiate players last year than male, I
would have told you you were on drugs. No like
the fact that you could name five to ten women
college basketball players that went to the WNBA and you
can name maybe a couple in the NBA. That's problematic.
(26:36):
That's high dramatic. Sound's got Eric and Cincy?
Speaker 1 (26:38):
What's up? Eric?
Speaker 7 (26:40):
Hey?
Speaker 6 (26:40):
How's it going? Guys? So you know you guys were
talking a little bit. You know, the ragings are dropped
off since Jordan left, and I don't know if Jordan
would be interested, But why not do something similar that
they did a few years ago, where they do a
draft Jordan and say like Larry Bird or a Magic
Johnson or like the temporary head coaches. I think everybody
(27:01):
would be interested to see if Jordan was like a coach,
you know, first time coach. I know I would tune in.
Speaker 2 (27:06):
Let me tell you, can I tell you this? There's
no one because I'm trying to think of music, sports entertainment.
No one is as universally like almost sickeningly like sicking
sickeningly is.
Speaker 1 (27:18):
That a word? Sickeningly loved more than Michael Jordan.
Speaker 2 (27:22):
He is invincible. Everyone thinks he was perfect. If Michael
Jordan somehow like wanted to give his love to the
NBA and come for it and be like, yeah, I'm
going to be part of the positive change.
Speaker 1 (27:36):
Let's do Jordan versus Isaiah Thomas.
Speaker 2 (27:40):
But I'm saying Michael Jordan is so loved that if
he's like even if it was smoking mirrors and Adam
Silver is like, you know what I've decided to do.
I've acquired the the Michael Jordan think tank, and he's
part of all the Even if you said this is
Michael Jordan's idea. They'd be like, great idea, great idea.
How long will going on nostalgia? Like how long will
(28:00):
bringing back these guys from the past, the great years
like actually helped the NBA.
Speaker 1 (28:03):
Michael Jordan can do no wrong.
Speaker 2 (28:05):
Okay, Like I know, but it's not a sustainable answer,
like at some point, the stars of today need to
be the guys that are the most popular. That is true,
but it's like, uh, you know, for a while, what
does wrestling do? They know when to bring back hulkgan
O the Rock or starting call Jesse the Body. They
know when to do this. Michael Jordan, it's time to
you know, you don't think it's time to be like Mike,
(28:27):
just come.
Speaker 1 (28:28):
On, Mike saves the NBA again. Seriously, she stays out
of the limelight on purpose. Though they need to change.
It's hard to get to come to me. I know
if I were him, I wouldn't want to. He's got money,
he doesn't need, you know.
Speaker 2 (28:40):
Coming out it's like buying real estate or stock when
it's a little low. Michael Jordan can come in now
and be like, all right, listen, I love this game
too much to see it go in the wrong direction.
I'm here to help Adam Silver change it. My goodness,
it thirty to sixty year old guys eating out of
there the palm of their hands. And by the way,
we're not here to dump on it, guys, We're not
here to do that at all. We're actually calling out
(29:02):
the people we're expecting to hype. I consider myself a fan, Okay,
I'm calling out guys like Barkley and Durant whose job,
in my mind is to hype things up.
Speaker 1 (29:13):
Like hype it up so that I can hype it up.
Speaker 2 (29:14):
Ye get me excited about it, because no one was
excited about the game last night. No one was excited
about the Cup. Even Darvin Ham wasn't excited about it.
Speaker 3 (29:24):
No one was excited about We pointed out last week
that it's gonna be what we're left with after the
super Bowl, and we want.
Speaker 1 (29:30):
It to be a good product exactly. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (29:31):
I want to make that clear too, Like we want
to be pumped about it. And when we see, when
I see if I'm wrong about the Mini Tournament, All
Star Game tournament. My job, I view it as my job,
rich than is to get you hyped up.
Speaker 1 (29:45):
Listening.
Speaker 2 (29:46):
Hey man, you're missing out this is great, this is cool.
You're missing out on the game. The big stars are
doing a bad job of selling it.
Speaker 1 (29:53):
Now. I want it to be great. We all do.
Speaker 2 (29:55):
I just want to make that clear. I don't want
people to think we're not hating. We're just stating and
it's anything. You could accuse me of being too positive. Yeah,
I'm a pretty like annoyingly positive guy to the point where, like,
I don't even think Rich wrapped his head around the
mini tournament until today, because it does it sounds confusing. Wait,
so Shaq, Barkley and Kenny they're gonna they're all gonna
pick teams and blah blah blah.
Speaker 1 (30:16):
Is that it just sounds corny?
Speaker 2 (30:18):
Dude, Eric, get one more thought and then we'll take
a few more phone calls.
Speaker 1 (30:22):
We'll go to Isaac for an update. What's up, man?
Speaker 6 (30:24):
Yeah, So the guy one of the announcers was saying,
could Duran bring it back? I mean, if you look
when like covid hit in that DOCU series of Jordan Kane,
everybody was tuned in. I think it would be the
exact same way if he did a coaching debut like
versus Isaiah Thomas. I think that's a great idea. Maybe
they would shake hands after the game.
Speaker 2 (30:43):
I just think I know it's you could say it's
a cheap trick. One of your favorite bands of the eighties.
You could say it's a You could say it's a cheap.
Speaker 1 (30:51):
Trick Robin Xanderson.
Speaker 2 (30:52):
But Danny, do you agree with me that the fact
that Michael Jordan could do no wrong in the eyes
of every man and woman, like thirty to sixty, like
just involving him, even if it's smoking mirrors as a solution,
like we're bringing in Michael Jordan to help with the process, Well.
Speaker 3 (31:05):
We definitely need to bring back that good feeling of
the eighties and nineties that the NBA and US as
NBA fans had.
Speaker 2 (31:11):
The NBA really needs to find a way to say,
I want you to want me.
Speaker 1 (31:18):
Cheap trick good.
Speaker 2 (31:20):
I'm telling you he's right. Last dance got everyone fired up.
Smoking Mirrors, dude, Sean and Sacramento wrapped this up.
Speaker 5 (31:27):
Bud, Yeah, yo, bros Man. First of all, I really
wanted to get to my question, but real quick, I've
been dying to know Rich did you win your softball
game for the championship?
Speaker 1 (31:38):
Brother, Dude, I will let you know coming up.
Speaker 2 (31:41):
So I know you're gonna listen, Sean, But let's just
say I'm a happy guy. But I got I heard
more people tuned into that than the Bucks, thunderless riches, softball,
no mercy beat majority dads last night. Wow, you're gonna
hear all about it. I'm gonna tell you what are
you at least.
Speaker 5 (32:00):
Radio listeners? But real quick, man, I got three quick
solutions to the NBA problem. Number one, go old school
like the MLB, make the winner of the All Star game,
make it back easton West first of all, but make
the winner the proud owner of home field advantage for
the finals. Fource these guys to care because at this
point it's just a terrible exhibition game. At this point.
The other one, get rid of the stupid E Turney
(32:22):
whatever it's called E Cup, whatever it is. Instead, after
playoff spots are decided, make the bottom sixteen teams have
a tournament for the number one pick. Whichever way you
fall in the bottom. If you finish first, then you
get the first pick, second, second pick, and so on
all the way down to sixteen. In the final fix,
make make the ball red, white and blue like the
aba days. Man, let's get back to having fun.
Speaker 1 (32:45):
I like all your mandatory afros. Mandatory afros.
Speaker 2 (32:49):
I like that too, thank you, Sean Haan was saying,
cal Hurd was saying, take the three point line all
the way to the end, like no side shots, no
side three point shots too easy. You know, the three
point thing is a big part of it. People are
bored with that now. Yeah, so we talked about that,
but again it's fresh on our minds with the new
All Star rules and this cup last night. And we'll
(33:10):
take the rest of your feedback next plus midweek Major
and more Rich's softball tournament. We got lost guests, So
Isaac Lohencros let's go to I Low, what's up buddy?
Speaker 8 (33:19):
All right, fellas, our top story continues to be as
it has been all day. Cavino and Red celebrate twenty
years on air together.
Speaker 1 (33:28):
Thank you, I thank you, Isaac.
Speaker 8 (33:30):
Among the many congratulatory messages the duo has received today,
this one quote, congratulations on twenty years. Unfortunately, we have
found the twenty first year is the hardest. Sincerely, Bill
Belichick and Tom Brady.
Speaker 1 (33:44):
That was thoughtful.
Speaker 8 (33:46):
Speaking of quarterbacks, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was
a full participant in practice today for the second straight
day despite injuring his ankle and last Sunday's win at Cleveland.
Brown's head coach Kevin Stefanski announced that Dorian Thompson Robinson
we'll start a quarterback on Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Atlanta Falcons place placekicker young Way coup On injured
(34:07):
reserve and signed place kicker Riley Patterson off of the
Browns practice squad. New York Giants head coach Brian Daball
said they planned to start Drew Locke at quarterback on
Sunday against the Falcons, and the New Orleans Saints have
signed former Kansas City Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards E
Lair to their practice squad.
Speaker 1 (34:25):
Guys, back to you.
Speaker 2 (34:26):
Thank you, GUYAC, appreciate it, man, thank you. Fox Sports
Radio Nation again Coveno and Rich celebrating twenty years of
working together and so pumped to be part of the
Fox Sports Radio family. Now we got to get to
midweek major Rich, the biggest stories in the world of
sports and pop culture, and rest your NBA feedback without
a doubt. All next right here, CNR on FSR now.
(34:48):
This is an ad by Betterhelp. Oh and by the way,
also coming up, I have a gripe with Brock Party.
Speaker 1 (34:53):

Steve Coveno own Rich twenty years together, my longest relationship.
(36:05):
It's true Rich Davis. Everybody again, I'm Cavino. That's Danny
g Iowa, Sam Low and Chrown Spotty getting ready for
midweek Major every Wednesday, the biggest stories in sports and
pop culture. And by the way, I really think we're
onto something here. I really think there's so many reasons
as to why the NBA is getting dumped on.
Speaker 1 (36:25):
There's so many reasons. We know that.
Speaker 2 (36:27):
But when they announced this new All Star Mini Tournament,
the new format for twenty twenty five NBA All Star Game,
I started reading it Rich, right, and like mini tournament,
four teams competing in three games, words words, words, words, words, words, words.
(36:47):
And I'm not trying to downplay we're stupid Americans. No,
We're just preoccupied and we like things simple. And that's
the truth, right, You know what, we want one awesome
game where maybe there's something on the line. Right, We're
okay with the rule change, We're okay with an iPhone update.
We're okay with some things, but when you try to
change what I call the American Sports equation season midway
(37:14):
through the best players play All Star Game, End of
the Year championship, that is the blueprint. The twenty four
All Stars will be chosen through the traditional voting process.
It's led by honorary GM Candice Parker. The teams are
picked by Barkley, Shack and Kenny. He's like, oh my god,
there's so much involved. My reaction as a fan was
(37:36):
the same as Kevin Durantz.
Speaker 1 (37:37):
Hate it.
Speaker 2 (37:39):
I hate it, but you gotta be open to new ideas.
I do commend them for trying. These are just not
the right ones.
Speaker 3 (37:46):
The and new ideas, but less how about less involved?
Speaker 1 (37:51):
How about quicker? You know better, bigger better?
Speaker 3 (37:55):
Like what the MLB is trying it has been trying
to do the past few seasons. Did they let the
pictures take longer on the mound or did they come
up with a clock?
Speaker 1 (38:03):
That's it. And that's coming from Danny.
Speaker 2 (38:05):
G's our most hardcore resident NBA fan, right, So he's
acknowledging too that there's a problem. And I think we're
really hitting on something rich. I give you the credit.
You want the faces of the NBA to be ambassadors
to the sport. They're not doing a good job selling
this stuff, and they're just not And we're the fans
(38:26):
and to you, maybe we're the guy selling it. But
there's not a whole lot to sell. There was an
Emirates Cup last night. No one cared, what do you
want from me? Congratulations to the Bucks. They didn't even
celebrate rich. Would you watch more if we got back
to nasty dunks? Yes, really good defense. Yeah, the world,
Americans especially wants nasty dunks.
Speaker 1 (38:48):
Don't fake the funk.
Speaker 2 (38:49):
On a nasty dunk as much Slammin, Jammin, reproorn and ramon.
That's what we want.
Speaker 1 (38:55):
I love it.
Speaker 3 (38:56):
I love it when Anthony Edwards, a young star in
the NBA, goes to the Hope. I was watching the
Starting five special on Netflix. He looked at the camera
and he's like, to be honest, I hate dunking really Yeah,
And he chucks up a lot of threes right now.
He's been working on his three point game, like a
lot of the league. I like Dan Bayer's idea to
go inside out for the All Star Game.
Speaker 1 (39:18):
So if you shoot.
Speaker 3 (39:19):
From outside it's not worth three, it's a two. To
get a three pointer, you have to drive to the basket.
And how about this any dunk four points.
Speaker 2 (39:28):
To encourage people to drive to the basket. And you
know who else went on a rant about this. Credit
to Dan Byer for sure, right, he was the first
on our show to bring that up. You know, because
people are scrambling like, what's the issue? We love the NBA?
Speaker 1 (39:41):
What happened? What's going on? Dame Cook went on a
rant comedian Dane Cook, He's like, I'm the fake.
Speaker 2 (39:47):
He basically he's like, I got the resolution, and he
sort of, you know, ad libbed what Dan Byer said
on our show. Just changed a point system, but give
it a shot during the All Star Game, Like you.
Speaker 3 (39:58):
Said, I would love to see that if they're was
incentive for the players to drive to the hoop. I
think all of us would be all about that.
Speaker 2 (40:05):
I mean you've seen all the things, like I heard
Colin or someone say take away the three point line completely,
like just everything's two points.
Speaker 3 (40:13):
Why did we all fall in love with Lebron's game
when he first came into the league. Was it because
he was a good three point shoot?
Speaker 7 (40:19):
No?
Speaker 2 (40:19):
No, he was a bad three point she was aggressive,
You're ready blent to the basket. He still does in
his twenty first season. He still can put the team
honestly back at times and drive to the hoop when
they need a foul or a bucket. You can't take
away the value of a three pointer. But what if
you made a dunk three points?
Speaker 4 (40:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (40:38):
There, that's what I was saying.
Speaker 2 (40:39):
Yeah, meaning not not a mid range jumper or a layup.
I'm talking a dunk. Like a dunk is three points?
Oh that would be I get it.
Speaker 1 (40:48):
Yeah. So now you're enticing people to get to the basket,
not only get to the basketball finish. I like it.
I like him.
Speaker 2 (40:54):
Something needs to be done and I gotta start. How
about this again, this is a positive conversation. We're not
dumping on the NBA before every game a round ball
rock sing along. Oh like live John Tesh basketball every day.
I think John Tesh always equals raty.
Speaker 1 (41:13):
Live John Tesh at the All Star Game. So come
on your thoughts.
Speaker 2 (41:18):
Celebrating twenty years Coo and Rich at Covino and Rich
on social media. Now next hour, Rich Spotty thing. Rich
is going to talk about his forty nine ers in
brock Prairie. We're going to talk about Devin Williams of
the Yankees, and midweek Major the biggest stories in the
world of sports and pop culture can wait, and a
(41:40):
really interesting NHL game that's coming up. There's a hockey
game that's worth noting, and I'll explain why it's coming
up right here. Fox Sports Radio Cavino and Rich
