Man?
Speaker 3 (01:59):
So butter?

And of course Iowa Sam, what's Sam? Our Tuesday is happy?

Sam seems miserable. Oh yeah, we're gonna feel to it.
We're gonna have a good time today. And of course
Dan Bayer, the consummate professional, has your updates. He'll be
hanging out with us. But thank you Fox Sports Radio
Nation again. Hit us up at Covino and Rich. Let's
talk Sam Darnald to get it going. Of course we
got to talk Stafford the whole game. Hope you had
an La Rams sort of night. I had a feeling, WHOA,
(02:33):
sometimes I get a good feeling. I had a feeling
that the Rams had extra to play for and they
would play big. The Vikings had lost a little bit
of confidence, but I did think that they would show
up more than that. This bothers me, and it's not
all Donald's fault. I want to make back quit listen.
(02:53):
I'm gonna defend Sam Donald, but we are gonna talk
what the heck you do with this guy moving forward.
But when he said this, I thought it was a
beautiful sentiment. So don't get it twisted. We live in
La a lot of destruction, a lot of sadness. But
this is what Matthew Stafford said after the game.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
We're playing for today.
Speaker 5 (03:11):
You know it was it was go get the swim,
But man, that's what the people in Los Angeles struggling
right now.
Speaker 6 (03:15):
It's been unbelieable to watch the whole community, you know.
Speaker 5 (03:19):
The state and the country kind of get behind him.
It's it's a tough time to be back there, and
we're just happy. And then we came out and played
like this tonight to get you know, something to be
happy about.
Speaker 6 (03:27):
Yeah, how do you think that what's happening back at
home maybe somehow inspired you guys. Yeah, I mean, uh,
you know, we're living it every day, and uh, you know,
it was it was.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
It was a tough.
Speaker 6 (03:37):
Week for us, a bunch of moving parts.
Speaker 5 (03:39):
Our organization did a hell of a job and taking
care of us, get us and you know, over here
to practice setting it up with families.
Speaker 6 (03:45):
I mean, it's been a it's been a whirlwind.
Speaker 5 (03:47):
And to come out here play like we did and
really all phases.
Speaker 6 (03:52):
I'm really proud of this group.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
Did you add that emotional music?
Speaker 1 (03:56):
I did just to prove my point. Okay, everybody was
gonna start singing every things better with emotional music in
the background. But listen, you said it yesterday. Covino goes,
they're gonna play for La and I look in a
game of inches, right, every little advantage helps and if
they have something serious to play for, they all want
(04:19):
to win.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
I do believe that, but they.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
Have that little extra on their mind, like we gotta
do it for the city of La.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
We have to.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
You saw Pookinakua cheering about it. He was all smiles,
almost tears, like we.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
Did it for La. Stafford did it for La. I
call it the old do it for Johnny.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
We'll do it for Joy.
Speaker 1 (04:46):
Now here's what Rich thinks. Rich doesn't believe in the
old do it for Johnny? And I'm like no, And
there's too many examples where it comes into play. People
play with that extra passion, that extra motivation that they
need to push them over the hump. You saw the
Rams playing big last night. The Vikings offensive line couldn't
(05:08):
even stop them. They had nine sacks last night. It
was an offensive line. It was an offensive line. My question,
just to get it going Fox Sports Radio Nation, do
you believe in the old dude for Janny? Do you
believe in that? Because Ritch you think what I think
that everyone's trying to do it for Johnny. Everyone's got
(05:29):
a different Johnny. Look at it this way. There are
Vikings players that probably reside in southern California.
Speaker 7 (05:35):
But they don't represent southern California.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
Let me give you a dumb analogy.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
You know, when you buy a car and you may
have never seen that car on the road, and then
you get that car and you're like, oh my god,
there's another Rivian, there's another Jeep, there's another you know
BMW would one another one, and you don't notice it
until you have it. I think we noticed these things
when they happen because they're beautiful stories. But so many
(06:00):
times there's someone playing for someone or something, and when
it doesn't work out, you just move past it.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
What Rich is trying to say, and he said it
many times.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
He thinks that there's no such thing as wanting it more,
and I completely disagree. He's like, they all want it
the same. And here's why you could see it in
the fight game. Everybody's fighting for a championship, everyone's fighting
for the bag or the heavyweight belt.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
Right.
Speaker 1 (06:25):
Some guys are fighting to survive, fighting to put food
on the table, fighting to get their family out of poverty,
fighting to change to family stars. And then there's other
people fighting because it's the sport. You're gonna tell me
the guy fighting to get out of the Mario isn't
fighting harder and stronger wants it more than the guy
(06:47):
who was born with a silver spoon.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
They're just fighting because he likes to box.
Speaker 1 (06:50):
Did you just give me the storyline of Rocky three
when Rocky got a little too complacent and he lost
the eye of the Tiger. Doesn't that proved the point
Rich is saying, there's no such thing as wanting it more.
They all want it, and I'm like boloney, they're pro athletes.
They all want it. Not listen every team, if you
wanted to dig for a sentimental storyline, you could find one.
It just the Los Angeles one is near and dear
(07:10):
to us. We live here, we know people, We've seen things.
It's been a terrible week and a half in Los Angeles.
There's no doubt about that.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
Dude.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
If you don't believe in extra added motivation, then what
Rally cries don't help. Motivational speeches don't help. When they're
getting in the huddle and getting people hyped up, that
doesn't help.
Speaker 3 (07:27):
Yeah, you believed in that OMG song.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
Yeah that was the case.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
The Mets would have won the World Series, but that
brought the team together, man.
Speaker 3 (07:34):
Yeah, and you're Rich.
Speaker 8 (07:35):
You've struck out on this argument before two octobers ago.
Go back in the ceen Our time machine here on
Fox Sports Radio. You argued with us the day Dick
Butkus died and Covino said, do it for Dick.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
That's been his slogan since college.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
And Rich I was just rereading Rich's tattoo.
Speaker 8 (07:55):
Yeah, Rich, you said, nah, Chicago's not going to come
out with extra effort for that. I don't know if
these young players even know who but Gus really is. Remember,
and then what they scored forty that night won the game. Postgame,
the players were saying that was for but Gus, and
you came in the.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
Next day and you're like, oh, okay.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
Danny, your Dodgers didn't win the World Series for Fernando Valenzuela.
Speaker 2 (08:15):
They just happen to be a great team.
Speaker 1 (08:17):
And you know what, the fact that a legend passed away,
it adds to the story, y, but it's added motivation.
Speaker 3 (08:23):
In Chicago was not a great team in twenty twenty three.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
We got saying this is a full proof plan that's undefeated.
Of course, it's not always gonna work. Some teams are
just better. But I think it could bring teams closer together,
something to rally around.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
You're doing it for the fans.
Speaker 1 (08:40):
That Dick Bucker's story. That was a good one because
Rich did make a point. These young players didn't even
know who he was. But after the game, they're like,
we did it for him. We know how much he
meant to the organization. To the fans, didn't they say?
They showed us a bunch of his highlights before the game,
so it got them inspired and motivated. I do think
those little things work.
Speaker 2 (09:00):
They matter.
Speaker 6 (09:01):
You know.
Speaker 1 (09:02):
The Rams may have just beat them anyway, but the
fact that they were playing for LA in a time
of need, I think added to it. It adds to
the story, no doubt. But I do believe in the
do it for Johnny And as I said yesterday, and
I'll say one more time, Rich to me, one of
the greatest examples was Brett Favre playing his biggest best
game the day his father died, just more to play
(09:22):
for It was an escape for him to be in
between the lines, playing for his dad and put up
crazy numbers on a magical night.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
Listen.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
I don't want to be the Joe Montana here, and
by that I mean I don't want to ruin the
Rudy story. You know, Joe Montana is one of my heroes.
It's okay, but this is what you really believe if
you believe is coincidence. No, that's fine, I want to
I never want to be the buzzkill of fun. In fact,
I'm the guy that wants to have too much fun.
But I'm sorry, Charlie Murphy, I was having too much fun.
(09:55):
I am sometimes I don't know how to not, you know,
I don't know how to be serious. So the reality
is it's odd for me to have this stance on
it because I don't want to be the Joe Montana
that says, well, you know, guys, the team really didn't
throw their jerseys on the desk for Rudy. You know,
Rudy was it. The movie was really inaccurate. I don't
(10:16):
want to be Joe Montana and ruin the story. But
for every Brett Favre who lost a family member and
had the game of his life, we just don't talk
about the guy who lost a family member and then
had a crap game.
Speaker 6 (10:29):
You know what.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
Brandon Nimo on the Mets, remember his grandmother passed away.
He found out right before a playoff game and ended
up having a like the couple hits game winning hit.
That's a great story, but if Nimo went oh for four,
we just would never have really heard the narrative again.
It's like the oh Wow, I got these new Jordan's.
I thought no one else had them. Then you see
(10:49):
like two other people have them. Let's leave it to
the people. Fox Sports Radio Nation, we're calling on you.
You make the call, like the old school NFL tapes,
You make the call.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
Do you believe in the old do it for Johnny?
Speaker 1 (10:59):
The fact that the LA Rams pulled off a twenty
seven to nine victory over the Vikings Jim Harbour. Wait,
so Harbaugh and the Chargers don't care about La. They
loved they were doing it for LA and you heard
Stafford talking about it. Then there's always that magical story
of de Gordon. I know that's one of your favorite stories.
How do you not factor that story into it? Dee
(11:20):
Gordon wasn't a home run hitter, but guess what he
was when he let off the game right after Jose
Fernandez died.
Speaker 2 (11:26):
That was magical. That was wan a tier to everybody
in the stadium.
Speaker 1 (11:29):
That was against the Mets, and I remember even the
Mets players were in tears after. But Rich is saying coincidence.
So I'm saying magic, So answer me this. I'm saying moments.
I'm saying added incentive and motivation to get together and
really come together for one cause. Aside from winning, everyone's
there to win. They have that little extra. I don't
(11:51):
want to be I don't want to be Debbie Downer.
What's the male version of that?
Speaker 2 (11:55):
Again? Negative, Norberto? Just sid I don't want to be
negative north Berto. Oh, you got to be so negative.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
But to me, if your theory is correct, and Stafford
and Pookin the Koua and Kyron Williams and these guys
really were playing for all the people out here in
LA that were struggling, playing for a city, I get it, dude.
I'm I'm not insensitive. I live in La. I've seen
what's happened. I don't think you're being in sent by that.
You're just taking a realistic approach to it. By that thinking.
(12:24):
By that thinking, the Charger should have whooped the Texans
on Saturday, and my parlay was dead after that game.
Speaker 2 (12:31):
You know, Jim Harbaugh.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
Wait are you saying Matt Stafford's a liar? I'm pretty
sure what was the first thing he said?
Speaker 6 (12:38):
Sam?
Speaker 2 (12:38):
Can you play that one just right off the bat?
Speaker 4 (12:40):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (12:40):
We're playing for today?
Speaker 6 (12:41):
You know it was still getting a swim.
Speaker 1 (12:43):
But man, people Los Angeles, I guess you're saying he's lying.
Speaker 8 (12:47):
Then, now, Rich the Charger situation was slightly different because
they went to Houston as scheduled. They didn't have the
bid Wells jet airliners picking them up and that stadium
bending over backward to help the LA.
Speaker 1 (13:01):
Cause I still think of them as the San Diego
Chargers anyway. Oh okay, so yeah, it's a little different.
I'll give you that. You know why this theory was
put to sleep from me twenty four years ago. The
year was two thousand and one.
Speaker 2 (13:20):
Dude, miracles don't always happen, that is true.
Speaker 1 (13:22):
I do not like, and I think I speak on
behalf of everyone in this room except Cavino, Green Eggs
and Ham or the Yankees. I do not like Green
Eggs and Ham or the New York Yankees. The one
time in my life, I'm a man, I'm forty, I'm
a man in my forties. One time as a grown man.
(13:44):
Have I rooted for the New York Yankees. It was
when I was living in New York City after nine
to eleven, and that's the one year they couldn't get
it done. The one year they lose to the Diamondbacks.
Let's up a bloop single to Gone though, and they win.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
That was a night.
Speaker 1 (14:01):
The question, as the Yankees say, would you have given
up two of the other World Series for that one?
Speaker 2 (14:06):
No? I mean things happen as they may. It was
a heartbreaker.
Speaker 1 (14:10):
Everybody was pulling for the Yankees, except for Arizona fans
at the time. But you can't expect it to always happen, right,
But there's so many moments and so many times where
it does. You're not changing, You're not changing my mind.
I'm just saying I get it. They are you saying
Matt Damon was lying?
Speaker 2 (14:29):
Not Matt Damon.
Speaker 7 (14:33):
I'm gonna let you figure this one out where I
don't know where you're going?
Speaker 2 (14:37):
Who hold on?
Speaker 3 (14:38):
Sam? Can you play some on hold music?
Speaker 2 (14:40):
Never I got Matt Dylan.
Speaker 1 (14:43):
Matt is a liar in the movie The Outsiders, The
Lesser Known, Yeah, how do you think the Greasers beat
the Socials? Dude, I'm again not trying to be a
negative nor berdo. I'm happy for of course the Rams
in Los Angeles. It's a great story, but I don't
think I just don't think they outplayed the Vikings because
(15:06):
they're they're either got a little heavy harp because of
all this said this yere in La, I think they're
just all right.
Speaker 2 (15:12):
Let me ask you this.
Speaker 1 (15:13):
When they were in the locker room trying to hype
each other up, smashing helmets, hitting each other in the pad,
what are you doing in the locker room right getting
each other fired up for the game? What do you
think they were saying to each other? I George Foreman,
Gary on Tee, I George Forman guaranteed, what are you
(15:35):
doing this for the city of La?
Speaker 2 (15:36):
Are you selling mufflers? Dude?
Speaker 1 (15:38):
So many people are are are watching this game tonight.
We got to give them something to cheer about. Let's
do it for LA with the La Rams. You gotta do.
I guarantee you that's.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
What they were.
Speaker 1 (15:48):
You know what, if it was helpful motivation, I can't
argue that.
Speaker 2 (15:52):
So anyway you thought, you.
Speaker 3 (15:53):
Know what really quick?
Speaker 8 (15:55):
I wish the Lakers could have taken your last night
they lost by what twenty to Wemby in the Spurs
on Cooper Induction night, and JJ Reddick is a person
who lost his home.
Speaker 1 (16:10):
Unfortunately in the fire, Reddick lost his home and they
lost by twenty. So again, it doesn't work all the
time lost all I heard his stories, kids lost all
their collectibles and jerseys.
Speaker 2 (16:18):
It's so sad. Cove answer me this. Yeah, do you think.
Speaker 1 (16:23):
This goes under the same category as bulletin board material?
Because another layer of the Rams story was that did
you hear how it?
Speaker 5 (16:31):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (16:32):
It got out?
Speaker 1 (16:33):
Then after the Vikings Lions game two weeks ago when
during the postgame little handshake, there was the sentiment of
a c in two weeks Yeah, and that was a
insult to the Rams, like what are they with the Lions?
Just the Lions and everyone thinks said, oh, they'll just
(16:54):
match up two weeks from now against I also think
it's a matter of the Rams seem to be clicking
at the right time, right.
Speaker 8 (17:00):
I was gonna say momentum in season adjustments made by
Sean McVeigh. He's always good at that, and the Rams
always seemed to click towards the end of the year
when it matters.
Speaker 1 (17:11):
They seem to be clicking, they seem to be pumped.
They made flat Yeah, their d had momentum going into this,
and we can't forget the fact that they got a
total momentum call with that forward pass. My oh, I
gotta be PG here. My goodness, that was a ridiculous call.
So again, they had calls didn't come out at least
(17:34):
intentional ground. And don't forget, we got to remember how
teams finish. An NFL record. I'm not saying means nothing,
but if a team has a slow start, do you
think how they played in September really reflects how this
team goes into the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (17:50):
The Rams, well, their record only says ten and seven.
Speaker 1 (17:54):
They finished I'm pretty sure like seven and one in
the last eight games.
Speaker 2 (17:58):
And the Vikings were coming off of a knockout.
Speaker 1 (18:00):
They had a throwaway game Week eighteen against the Seahawks
where they didn't play their starters. So the Rams have
played as good as anyone for the second half of
the year. So that's something to think about to It's
a simple question. If you don't want to answer it
on the phone, you could always hit us up on
social media at Covino and rich and you could check
out our TikTok while it's still up for five more days. Again,
(18:21):
the question simple, is it coincidence moments like this coincidence?
Or do you believe in the all? Do it for Johnny?
You know we have extra play for and then the
second part. I'm looking forward to hearing your guys' thoughts
on this. When I'm a fan and other fans of
quarterback needy teams look at free agency, what is Sam
Darnold gonna go for now?
Speaker 8 (18:42):
Man?
Speaker 1 (18:42):
Did he just end up in the bargain bin with
it with all the with all the DVDs at best By. Yeah,
I wouldn't say bargain bin, but it's changed things. He
played himself out of twenty million, you know, you know,
I'm sure you have a couple on the top of
your mind, but it's a little different.
Speaker 2 (18:57):
But you know, when a guy, I.
Speaker 1 (18:58):
Think he played himself out of Minnesota for sure, that's
what I think. Didn't JJ McCarthy tweet something cryptic too?
Am I wrong about that?
Speaker 2 (19:07):
Did I fall for some bait online? Like it? Just
nothing negative?
Speaker 1 (19:10):
Just like if they got JJ McCarthy, They're not going
to overpay for a guy who came up short when
they needed it. You know, he had a good season
but didn't win and didn't really show up when it
mattered most. Is it all on him? Though, That's the thing,
It's not all on him. The Vikings played like ass.
He got there, SA sacked nine times, some of those
(19:32):
he could not have gotten away from. Yeah, dude, that
was ridiculous. And again the Rams did get some calls.
They got some calls that that that was a straight
up intentional grounding call that they reviewed and still got
it wrong. So moving forward, all quarterbacks on their way
down should just flick the wrist forward because he was
not passing it to anybody.
Speaker 7 (19:50):
He did have the fumble that led to it. Let's
super really touchdown?
Speaker 1 (19:53):
Yeah, that would have been ten ten Rich' that was
a momentum killer right there for the Viking.
Speaker 2 (19:58):
I saw the tweet that.
Speaker 3 (19:59):
Did you see the Latin frame is he tweeted?
Speaker 2 (20:00):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (20:01):
A more fatti means love of fate. You know what
what he's saying, boy, that he loves fatties.
Speaker 2 (20:09):
No, he it's he metter. He likes fat chick. I
thought he loved fat asses.
Speaker 1 (20:14):
A more fat ass, No, give me a more fati
translated into like you said, love of one's fate? Is
that JJ McCarthy subtle way being like yo? I was
patient and Sam Donald showed who he is.
Speaker 2 (20:28):
By the way, yeah, he injured. This is not a
time to send cryptic messages at all.
Speaker 1 (20:33):
A more fat that's his way of saying, a more
fatee is not that he wants more fat booties. It's
his way of saying fate, fate will have it that
Sam Donald showed everyone that he's Sam Donald and.
Speaker 2 (20:45):
The plan is back.
Speaker 1 (20:46):
I mean, I'm your guy, JJ McCarthy, McCarthy for quarterback. Yo.
Speaker 8 (20:50):
The first comment underneath his post, the guy says, does
anyone speak Spanish?
Speaker 2 (20:55):
Ridiculous?
Speaker 1 (20:56):
You know what, We're gonna take your feedback, everybody on
the phones too. Oh yeah, Hank tight, We're gonna get
to you. Want to know your thoughts on that. Do
you believe that it was a coincidence? Did they play
for la Your thoughts on Sam, Darnold and Moore. We
have showtime homes trivia, We have prizes to get to
games to play right here on the Cavino and Rich Show.
All right, well, hey we're not TV weatherman, but we
(21:19):
know about driving in winter conditions. Forecasts for a lot
of snow around the country, snow and ice are here.
It makes driving a challenge. Thankfully, the experts are tirek

whatever winter means to you. Ti Iraq has tires that
will elevate traction and breaking and keep you safe. All
season tires, all weather tires, and if you live where
(21:40):
it snow's a lot dedicated winter tires.
Speaker 2 (21:41):

Speaker 2 (22:11):
The way tyne should be.
Speaker 1 (22:24):
Yo, man, it's such a funny and fun yet interesting discussion.
You don't think Sean McVay used the la story for
added motivation for the team, or do you think it's
all coincidence that they just beat the Vikings dominated them
in a lot of ways, Like what are your Neighborhood?
Speaker 2 (22:44):
One of your favorite viral songs over the last couple
of years?
Speaker 6 (22:46):
What was it?
Speaker 1 (22:47):
What a coincidence? I love that song? I mean, who knows?
I listen. I love these stories and I'm not trying
to be the Debbie Downer, the negative nor berto. But
there's a part of it. It's like I just said
to Big Mike, who runs his place, who who? I said, Mike,
let me give you a terrible imaginary scenario. Let's say
we're like, let's say we're college buds and uh, you know,
(23:08):
we lose a friend in an accident, and then we're
competing against each other and I'm.
Speaker 2 (23:12):
Like, I'm doing this for Frank and he's like, oh,
I'm doing it for Frank.
Speaker 1 (23:16):
One of us is gonna lose? Does I mean that
person doesn't love Frank as much. It's like, it's a
funny take, It's I listen. But Mike also said that
he played in the tournament when his mom died. A
soccer tol me as a kid, and he went to
his team in a huddle in a circle before the game, said, Yo, guys,
I'm here in this tournament.
Speaker 2 (23:36):
My mom would have wanted me to play. We got
to win for my mom.
Speaker 1 (23:39):
He said he saw all his teammates look him in
the eye and they're like, all right, let's go. And
he outscored in five games, thirty goals to none. And
he believes that people sometimes just need that added little
bit of motivation, something to play for. And that's really
the question. Do you do you believe in the all
we're calling it?
Speaker 2 (23:56):
Do you all do it for?
Speaker 1 (23:57):
John was Mike did an adult league playing children? Is
that the that the story? That is the weird part
of the story. Mike was a grown man playing kids.
It's like cramerke Karate against kids. So we're going to
your phone calls next at eight seven, seven ninety nine
on Fox Again, We're live from the ti Raq dot
com studio. Rapid radios are the walkie talkie for playoffs.
They're pushed to talk, offering national LTE coverage no subscription ever,
(24:19):
perfect for instant contact with your friends. We use them
on the show. Go to Rapid Radios dot com now
for up to sixty percent off and free shipping. Every
team on this level, they're all great teams. Yeah, it's
a game of benges. As they say, it's always those
small factors, those small difference makers. You know, this guy
got extra rest, this guy he was healthier than this
(24:43):
other team. Well, sometimes on a team, this team had
more motivation. It can be sometimes the little factors are, Hey,
there were some travel hang ups, whether a plane you know,
had to turn around, and these guys get two hours
less sleep. The Saquon Barkley didn't score a touch down
just to save his legs for the next game. All
these little things matter. You can tell me playing for
(25:06):
your city, but really playing for your city doesn't matter
a little bit. So your thoughts eight seven seven ninety
nine l.
Speaker 2 (25:13):
Fox.
Speaker 1 (25:13):
And then, of course part two of the observations from
last night has to be Stafford because everyone's coming down
on him. You mean, I mean, not Donald. Everybody's coming
down on Donald. And yeah, he stunk it up that line.
It really was the offensive offensive. It really was nine sacks.
And listen, you could argue there were three or four times.
W I'm like, get rid of the ball like he does,
(25:35):
hang onto the ball a little longer than I'd like
at times, but Stafford was under constant pressure. But as
many people are discussing today on TV radio podcasts, what
does this do to the future of Sam Darnold as
a Viking as a member of another team? Like the
last two weeks, two bad performances in a row at
(25:58):
the most inopportune time when you're fighting for the one seed,
and then not only that, you don't even get past
the wildcard round. When if you beat the Lions last week,
you're sitting pretty think about that. The Lions win last week, right,
they haven't even touched the football field again. The Vikings
are out out the significance of that week eighteen Sunday
(26:20):
night game, and of course Sam Donald lackluster on Sunday
night and then over the weekend lackluster again. Did that
take Sam Donald from multi year contract with Minnesota to hey,
we're moving forward with JJ McCarthy.
Speaker 2 (26:36):
Did that happen in two weeks?
Speaker 1 (26:37):
It seems that way, and that's the feeling we have
a day later. But you know, a bad game where
he got sacked nine times, and it wasn't completely his
fault that erases the great season he had. Man, how
fickle we are as fans until you turn the break
I go. They still were fourteen to three, Yeah, exactly,
(26:57):
So how quickly we changed our mind on Sam Donald
if that's the case. And JJ McCarthy with that cryptic tweet,
a more fatigue And as you said before, I mistranslated that.
Givino thought it said he just wanted more fat booties.
Now I thought that was his New Year's resolution, A
more No, that's you in Jersey, A more fatty's. Oh
that just means essentially, love of one's fate? And now
(27:21):
you're saying, is JJ McCarthy cryptic tweeting love of one's fate?
And Danny, you and I were discussing does that mean
his fate of he will end up somewhere else? Or
the fate of Sam Donald collapse and it's my team again?
Speaker 9 (27:32):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (27:32):
And I was thinking about it because a Vikings fan
commented under his post and said, love of fate? Are
you happy that our team lost? And then I was
thinking about it. I forget which talking head it was
on TV. I watched a lot of Sports, But he
was saying that he felt like JJ McCarthy is better
than any QB in the twenty twenty five draft coming up.
And we've heard a couple of people say that and
(27:52):
think that. I don't know if I would agree with that,
but JJ McCarthy's a hot commodity right now, right if
you're you know, you're a team.
Speaker 2 (27:59):
I saw that same clip, so I wish we could
give that talk.
Speaker 1 (28:02):
I know, right, But someone was saying, how we're so
quick to want to assume that this year's draft class
is where you need to go. Meanwhile, what if a
guy got drafted mid round last year and he just
happens to be better?
Speaker 8 (28:12):
Well, and we've been speculating this on the network, we've
heard it on TV. Like I said, so you're telling
me JJ McCarthy hasn't heard all of this, and he
hasn't seen how his own team has embraced Darnald.
Speaker 3 (28:23):
So maybe that's where some of this is coming from.
More shut up.
Speaker 2 (28:29):
On phones or an update. First, let's go the phones.
Let's let's a little rapid fire. Then will he up dB?
Speaker 6 (28:34):
All right?
Speaker 1 (28:34):
So the old do it for Johnny and your thoughts
on Donald eight seven seven ninety nine, one Fox.
Speaker 2 (28:39):
Bob in New York. Hey Bob, Hey, guys, what's up?
Speaker 4 (28:44):
Hey?
Speaker 9 (28:45):
Do it for Deamarrow?
Speaker 4 (28:46):
The game right after Damorrows the buff Footbills run back
to kick off for a touchdown.
Speaker 2 (28:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (28:54):
Don't you see so many instances where that happens? Or
it's like, man, that was that was insane. I can't
believe it. I just I don't want to be a buzzkill.
There's too many I don't want to be a buzzkill.
Speaker 8 (29:05):
Don't you take anything away from Hamlin's story, But that's
a good call.
Speaker 2 (29:09):
Someone once told me that.
Speaker 1 (29:13):
It's psychological meaning if your grandpa Py died on My
grandfather died on April twelfth. So there was a time
in my life where everywhere I looked at the clock
at a street side anywhere, I just saw four to twelve.
Speaker 2 (29:28):
I was like Grandpa.
Speaker 1 (29:30):
And someone pointed out the reality is your brain will
make you almost overacknowledge that how many times has something
bad happened and someone hasn't run a kickoff back the
next game? Like we are, we're just, you know, taking
the these rare moments and making it seem like it's fate.
Speaker 2 (29:52):
You want to believe. Again, not trying to be a buzzkill.
Speaker 10 (29:54):
Do you guys see New Jersey or New York license
plates all the time out in California? But that's the
same theory, right, Like it's I'm from Wisconsin, Sam's from Iowa.
Like I feel like I will always notice a Wisconsin
license plate and think, like, man, there's just a bunch
of people. But I wouldn't recognize any of the other
forty eight.
Speaker 2 (30:12):
States I see.
Speaker 1 (30:13):
I don't know if I see someone, if I see
someone with a Syracuse University sweatshirt on or something out
here in La, I'm like, oh my god, joos, how
many times do I pass a goat with a Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (30:22):
Or Maryland or because you're subconsciously looking for it? Say?
Speaker 1 (30:26):
We call it the awareness theory. It's like a word
you never heard before and then you hear it all
the time, you see it on a billboard. It's a
chap theory when when hold on, Like when I remember
when my ex was pregnant, it seemed like everybody was pregnant,
nose and everybody's pregnant. It's like you just become hyper
aware of these things, so you're looking for something to
hold on to a lot of times when people pass
(30:47):
they'll see coins or birds, and like, that's my grandpa
talking to me, like you referenced, Rich, I get it
because you want to believe those things. But faith is
believing in something. And I'm not saying I'm not saying
don't have those belief in faith. I'm just saying one
Mike chalking up to something else. And the cherp theory,
by the way, is years ago. Cavino, I'm such a dope.
(31:08):
We were playing the song cherub rock Yeah by the
Smashing Pumpkins, and I'm an idiot. I'm like, what's a cherub?
He's like like a little cupid thing, like a By
the way, Rich was a grown adult. He didn't know
what a cherub was, and he's like, are you for
like a vegetable. So he's like, Sam, do you know
what a cherub is?
Speaker 7 (31:25):
Vegetable? Well, I know, like a cherubic face is like
an angelic young looking face, and then yeah, cherub's like
a cupid an angel face, an angel.
Speaker 1 (31:33):
And the minute Cavino pointed out to me that a
cherub is a little like angelic angel, like angel every
like for the next week or so of my life.
Everywhere I went, I heard the word cherub saw something.
I like, it's the awareness and he jokes, you're an idiot.
Speaker 2 (31:46):
It's all you.
Speaker 3 (31:47):
No, you have one in your garden.
Speaker 6 (31:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (31:49):
We call it the awareness theory because you just become
hyper aware of something that was always there, but now
that you know it, you're like, oh my god, so
your thoughts. We're gonna get to your phone calls next,
So everybody, Bob, Jen, Eric, Dave, Mike, Manny, Moe, and Jack,
we're gonna get to all your poole calls back there.
Speaker 2 (32:07):
After Dan Bayer's update, what up dB.
Speaker 11 (32:10):
Guys, David Montgomery listed as a full participant in practice
for the Lions and estimated participation list if you will,
if the Lions would have practiced today, but Dan Campbell
had said that Montgomery will return from his kne injury
and play in the playoffs in the divisional.
Speaker 10 (32:26):
Round, and that is this Saturday night against the Commanders.
On track to do so. Terry and Arnold, who has
heard at the end of the regular season, also listed
as a full participant in practice, as the cornerback is
dealing with a foot injury. Rams should have Tyler Higbee
available for their matchup against the Eagles on Sunday. Tight
End was actually at a local hospital last night in
Arizona after he had to leave the game against the
(32:48):
Vikings because of a chest injury where he was coughing
up blood. He did travel with the team back to
LA and Sean mcva says yeah, Higbee slated to go
in Philadelphia on Sunday. Houston Texans waved wide receiver Ante
Johnson after just two games. While some coaching news in
the NFL, the Jaguars he interviewed former Jets head coach
Robert Sala for their head coaching vacancy. The Bears are
(33:09):
speaking with former Cowboys, said coach Mike McCarthy tomorrow, and
the NFL Network says McCarthy will speak with the Saints
next week. Browns promoded Tommy Reese to be their offensive coordinator.
Penn State Tenant and Tyler Warren entry the twenty twenty
five NFL Draft, and ESPN reported that Jimmy Butler and
Pat Riley did have a face to face meeting last week,
with the Heat swingman telling Riley he wants to be
(33:31):
traded and would not be back with the Heat if
they don't trade him by the trade deadline, that he
wouldn't return as a free agent this offseason.
Speaker 3 (33:39):
That's according to ESPN.
Speaker 2 (33:40):
Guys.
Speaker 1 (33:41):
Back to you, thanks d bas and you said, Robert
Sala interviewing with Jacksonville based on our conversation yesterday about
how yeah coaches, it's very rare to get a third
and or fourth shot. Does Robert Sala does he want
to waste the second shot in Jacksonville? Is that team
set up for to succeed? Do you want your two
(34:02):
shots as a head coach to be the Jets and
the Jags? They got that sweet strip club out there
called solid Gold. We did go there.
Speaker 10 (34:08):
The gamble is this is if he's only interviewing with
Jacksonville and is not getting get another job, do you
have confidence enough in your defensive coordinating abilities that you'll
be a candidate years down or.
Speaker 1 (34:19):
That's what I'm thinking, Like, I feel like you could
slip into the Niners defensive coordinator spot, and I know
Vrabel wants him in New England, so maybe DC for
a year or so and then find a fit mate.
Speaker 10 (34:29):
But if you went to San Francisco and they weren't
as good, then are you bringing him back as a
head coach. If the defense isn't, I don't know if
you are Craik while the other he'd be a good call.
All right, hey listen, you know what all your phone calls.
Please hang, We're going to get to you.
Speaker 1 (34:42):

for the rest of the nights everywhere Root Vegetable, I
love this song.
Speaker 2 (36:02):
One of my favorites.
Speaker 1 (36:03):
And we've had the privilege of interviewing so many people
in entertainment and sports, and we've interviewed Billy Corgan a
few times and he's a die hard. We should get
him on diehard Cubs fan like baseball. Guy loves his
sports and he loves wrestling. He's wrestling.
Speaker 7 (36:19):
See Billy Corgan pop up everywhere.
Speaker 1 (36:22):
Billy Corgan is one of those dudes that loves all
the things you probably loved as a kid, music, wrestling
and sports. Yeah, and rocking out. And if you see him,
tell him, I said, Oh, Billie telling me, said, what's up.
We're Cavino and Rich live from the tire Rack dot
Com studio. We have a few phone calls to get
(36:44):
to and remember we got show time of Holmes Trivia
coming up.
Speaker 2 (36:47):
Nice?
Speaker 1 (36:47):
Uh, do it for Johnny? Do we believe in the
do it for Johnny? So when Stafford and it was
beautiful when he said, hey, we played for LA. Do
you believe in those type of things or is it
just coincidentance? Jen and Michigan? What's going on?
Speaker 9 (37:09):
Hey guys, good afternoon.
Speaker 6 (37:11):
I do believe in it for Johnny.
Speaker 9 (37:15):
It can work for.
Speaker 1 (37:16):
Other teams too.
Speaker 4 (37:18):
And I think if both Detroit and LA win this weekend,
guess who's playing against each other again this year?
Speaker 2 (37:28):
Did I? Did I miss what she said?
Speaker 3 (37:30):
I wass are playing at the Eagles?
Speaker 7 (37:31):
Yeah, you know we're calling it lines.
Speaker 3 (37:33):
Are playing the Commanders.
Speaker 1 (37:34):
Yeah, that's okay, we're calling it. Do you all do
it for Johnny? But when it for the gut to
do it for the old gipper, win it for the Gipper,
which was in a saying that meant to do your
best in honor of someone important.
Speaker 8 (37:47):
Don't forget last season a lot in football last season
for buckus you said do it for Dick.
Speaker 1 (37:51):
Yeah, that was that logan. Actually for the whole year.
I almost got that tattoo, you know, I remember and
By the way, this the speech came from Newton's That's
where this came from. So, like, you're gonna tell me
Rich you don't believe in new Rockney. You don't believe
in Matt Dillon? What I don't believe in Matt Stafford?
Speaker 6 (38:07):
What I do?
Speaker 1 (38:07):
You don't believe in a thing called love? There was
one time I do believe in right? Do you guys
remember when we were kids. I think it was like
eighty eight or eighty nine. Do you remember when the
coach of the Indians, Lou Brown, had a heart attack.
Speaker 2 (38:21):
And the Indians rallied.
Speaker 1 (38:24):
They had a terrible owner and somehow they rallied to
make it all the way to play the Yankees in
the Alcs.
Speaker 2 (38:30):
You remember that. Yeah, it's a great season. It was
a great season. Magical Mahika.
Speaker 3 (38:36):
We always wondered how did they get the nude picture
of her?
Speaker 1 (38:40):
And I'm like, how do do we never know who
in the world series that you're in the fictional nineteen
eighty eight? All right, let's go to Eric in northern California.
Speaker 2 (38:47):
What's up?
Speaker 4 (38:47):
Eric?
Speaker 9 (38:48):
Hey, how's it going?
Speaker 4 (38:49):
Guy?
Speaker 2 (38:49):
What's up?
Speaker 9 (38:50):
He believe in the do it for Johnny? I'll use
like a burning building, so to speak. You walk by
seeing on fire, you might call the cops.
Speaker 8 (38:57):
That's sad.
Speaker 9 (38:58):
Now put a family member in there. You're kicking through
that door, getting ready to get at it right to
save them. Kind of the same deal. The adrenaline, the momentium,
the whole team rallying together, playing on fire, and every
time a big play happens, they're just gonna it's gonna
amp them up even more so does it make them
superhero like and guarantee you win? No, but it sure
does help.
Speaker 2 (39:13):
It helps.
Speaker 1 (39:14):
And you know, I thought about this with I'm like,
when did When was the last time I really wanted
someone to like shock the world? And I really wanted
Mike Tyson to beat Jake Paul. But sometimes like it
just you know, you can't expect the impossible, can't expect
the impossible, but but you know, sometimes you do get that.
Speaker 2 (39:31):
I'll give you this.
Speaker 1 (39:33):
Everyone's looking for an edge and this could just be
another little edge, and it's a it's a battle of
how do you get those little edges right?
Speaker 6 (39:40):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (39:41):
David in Texas? What's up? Dave?
Speaker 4 (39:43):
Hey, what's up? Guys?
Speaker 2 (39:44):
What's up? Buddy?
Speaker 4 (39:45):
I believe in that to do it for Johnny things
history has taught us. You know, I'll go out remember
the Animal free Texas and Pearl Harbor united the whole
America to fight against the war the Alamo.
Speaker 1 (40:00):
Yeah, it's a great one. Hey, Dave, do you know
there's no basement in the Alma. There's no basement, and
that's where pee Wee's bike was. No, no, there's no basement.
It was from New Rockney's y' all do it for
the Gipper. Rockney said that George Gipp asked him to
have the team win a game for him when things
were tough, Notre Dame one against Army twelve to six.
(40:20):
In the phrase win one for the Gipper became famous.
So we're saying duell for Johnny. Outsider style. Stafford said,
we did it for La. Do you believe it or not?
Speaker 2 (40:31):
Didn't Paul O'Neill hit a home run for a sick kid? Well?
Speaker 7 (40:35):
Wait, that was Seinfeld, right, Okay, let's think that.
Speaker 2 (40:39):
Was a movie.
Speaker 7 (40:39):
That was a scene from the Babe about Baby Ruth,
John Goodman.
Speaker 3 (40:42):
That was I like that movie.
Speaker 2 (40:44):
Mike in South Dakota. Wrap this up, buddy, Hey buddy.
Speaker 9 (40:47):
Hey, how's it going? Guys think you want to taking
my call the show?
Speaker 2 (40:50):
Thank you.
Speaker 9 (40:51):
I think I do believe in the do it for Johnny,
But I also think last night, man, it was like
I think it kind of deflated the Vikings before they
started playing, you know, when Andrew Whitworth was up there
and gave his speech and everything. I think, I don't know,
it just seemed like maybe the Vikings came out flat
because of the two although they played bad against the Lions,
maybe the leagues figured a few things out on them.
Speaker 1 (41:11):
But yeah, it seemed like they lost their confidence. They
did seem very very flat. Yesdir I agree, can I
I mean for different reasons, But let me analogize last
year the Philadelphia Eagles seemed to be like on top
of the world, like Dice Clay on top of the
world two years ago. Yes, last year are kind of stunk. No, no,
(41:34):
last year, and then they fell apart. One fell apart.
I'm not saying you can say the same about the Vikings,
But how did a fourteen and two team that was
dominating just get embarrassed the.
Speaker 2 (41:47):
Last two weeks.
Speaker 1 (41:49):
Your thoughts on the future of Sam Darnold will get
to that and Mahomes Showtime Trivia comeing up,
