You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (00:26):
Yeah, surprise, it's your butts compute on rid. Shit for
Colin on the Herd becoming like a Friday tradition.

Speaker 4 (00:33):
Huh. You know, I'm okay with the Hey, I'm Caffino.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
That is rich and we are live from Union, New Jersey.
We're here in Jersey, dirty Jersey, eating lots of pizza, eating.

Speaker 4 (00:47):
Lots of Taylor ham saying, which is funny. Truth. We
just got out of a meeting with hal Steinbrenner Jr. Yes,
and he.

Speaker 3 (00:56):
Took my words serious. And it's like a holiday. We
have us to talk about.

Speaker 4 (01:01):
No more.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
Facial hair policies. Well we'll explain for the New York Yankees.
We're gonna talk hockey today.

Speaker 4 (01:10):
What the hell? Usually I say hockey schmocky. Not today.

Speaker 5 (01:15):
Plus there's some stories about being starstruck. We got weekend
hobnobbing things you need to watch over the weekend. But
I'm so excited about this New York Yankee story. Again,
Cavino and rich In. For Colin on the Herd, the
number is eight seven seven. For the Herd, we got
super producer Danny g g.

Speaker 4 (01:35):
What's up man? Happy Friday is right?

Speaker 5 (01:39):
Like I said, it's a celebration for baseball fans, for
Yankee fans especially, and.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
It's like ding dong, We'll grow our beards, grow our beards,
grow our beads. Oh you said, baseball fans only Yankees fans.
No one cares except you guys.

Speaker 5 (01:54):
But I think it's a great, great change in the
right direction. And of course we have this big sexy
Ryan back at the studios two on the ones and twos,
and of course you Fox Sports Radio Nation, thanks again
for hanging out with us. Let's get involved, let's get
it going. We are on site in Jersey because well
we did an event yesterday, believe it or not with
Dallas Goddard, which, by the way, post is a very

(02:17):
interesting question. What happens when you start to become friendly
with guys that are not on the team you root for.

Speaker 4 (02:25):
I think there's a real simple answer to that, to
be honest.

Speaker 5 (02:27):
Yeah, So Dallas Gonnard, super Bowl champion of the Philadelphia Eagles.
We had to do an event with him yesterday and
he's such a great dude, nice guy, reel down to earth,
super pumped about his win. Makes you pump for him?
The answer is simple. I think you start to like

(02:48):
players but still root for your team. And I think
that's okay. You could still root for your team. Rich
is a lifelong forty nine Ers fan, but you root
for that player as a man, as an individual. It's
like when your favorite player leaves the team. You don't
abandon your favorite player. You still root for him a
little bit, keep your eye on him, but you keep
your alliance and your allegiance to the team you root for.
So it's really that like getting to know him. We've

(03:11):
had him on our show a few times. We're gonna
get him on again. We spent a whole day with
him yesterday. We met his girlfriend, right, We talked about
life and the Big Three and what it's like to
be in the locker room.

Speaker 4 (03:21):
You get to know the guy.

Speaker 5 (03:22):
And you realize he's a down to earth, strapping young fella.
You just get to root for him and appreciate him,
and you keep your eye on him. As simple as that,
you know what, simple move on.

Speaker 3 (03:33):
But I think back to when I was a little
boy and as a Niners fan. When Montana left for
the Chiefs, I didn't become a Chiefs fan, but there
was a part of me that's like, unless they play
the Niners, I'm certainly gonna hope cool Joe does well.

Speaker 4 (03:48):
Exactly. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (03:50):
Yeah, So now we're rooting for him and he'll be
on the show more and more often. Again Covino and Rich.
We're normally on from five.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
To seven on the East Monday through Friday, two to
four on the West. Just search Covid and Rich at
Cobino and Rich on social media or call us now eight,
seven to seven for the Herd.

Speaker 4 (04:06):
It's a pleasure to be here again. That's what brought
us to the East coast.

Speaker 5 (04:10):
We live in Los Angeles. But they said, hey, we
need you to do some event with Dallas Gonner. Would
you like to do it? We said yes. So since
we were on the East, we said, let's go back
to Jersey, say hi to the fam. Stuff our faces
with Taylor Ham and pizza and let's rock the herd today.

Speaker 3 (04:28):
Let me tell you it's it's very interesting because I
feel like of all the shows on Fox Sports Radio,
and I'm up patting ourselves on the back because it's
such a stupid story. But I feel like we were
the league leaders in joking about the Yankees lay mass
facial hair policy, Like we would often bring up young
Dominican players, young Latino players, you know around the league,

(04:52):
any young player for that matter, who wants to clean
shave in twenty twenty five, it's a lame ass look.

Speaker 4 (04:58):
Very few guys clean. I couldn't believe my eyes when
I saw it this morning.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
We got so many messages because again we're the bozos
that bring it up often. But let me read the
press release from your dude, a guy that now runs
your Los Yankees.

Speaker 4 (05:14):
He's my dude.

Speaker 3 (05:15):
Today hal Steinbrenner put a statement out my.

Speaker 4 (05:19):
Family, all my friends, so many people. I woke up.

Speaker 3 (05:22):
I was like, what now am I dreaming? It really
felt like, no way, this can't be real. Statement from
Yankees managing general partner hal Steinbrenner. The memo is regarding
alterations of Yankee facial hair policy.

Speaker 4 (05:41):
What in recent weeks I've.

Speaker 3 (05:43):
Spoken to a large number of former and current Yankees,
spanning several eras to elicit their perspectives on our long
standing facial hair and grooming policy.

Speaker 4 (05:54):
The fact this is even a memo, it's hilarious to
me and I appreciate their earned and varied feedback.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
These most recent conversations are an extension of ongoing internal
dialogue that dates back several years. Ultimately, the final decision
rest with me, and after great consideration as a Steinbrenner,
we will be amending our expectations to allow our players
and uniform personnel to have well groomed beards moving forward.

(06:23):
It is the appropriate time to move beyond the familiar
comforts of our former policy.

Speaker 5 (06:29):
It is and what we said when they got Devin
Williams's I think change starts with one man, and I
believe that he was the catalyst and that one man
because you invest what eight point something million dollars a
year for this guy to be the closer of your
team and intimidation role. Really you're closing the game, You're

(06:50):
the closure of the New York Yankees, and you have
this really intimidating, dominating beard that gives you this sense
of confidence and makes you feel like a badass, and
then you're forced to shave it.

Speaker 4 (07:01):
Now you look like a baby.

Speaker 5 (07:02):
Cherub on the mound and pinstripes, Like you took away
that intimidation factor. And Devin Williams is very outspoken. He
wasn't disrespectful, but he was very outspoken on the fact
that he hadn't shaved in years and that he felt
very comfortable with his beard and more confident with his beard.
So essentially, you're telling them to shave, taking away their confidence.
That then becomes a counterproductive thing. And you know, we

(07:26):
mentioned our time with Dallas Goddard yesterday Philadelphia Eagle. Coincidentally,
I said to him just in random conversation, I said, hey, Dallas,
he had a regular scruff going on right, a regular
twenty twenty five scruff with some facial hair. I'm like,
if the Eagles had a policy and they said you
had a shave, how would you feel about it? How

(07:47):
would the guys react? He's like, oh, man, that would
be terrible. He's like, nah, you would find eventually, you'd
find somewhere else to play, because that's just you know,
you got to think about the off season and just
out and about and just how you feel yourself. He's
like the young guys today, No way, man, I don't
like that.

Speaker 4 (08:04):
That was his take on it.

Speaker 3 (08:05):
You hear how young people's young people talk about, you know,
how they want to look when they're out there.

Speaker 4 (08:11):
It's about time.

Speaker 3 (08:13):
And again, I'm a Yankees fan, so I believe in tradition.
But as we've said many times, sometimes tradition is making
the same mistake over and over again. And hal Steinbernner
said it right now is the time. It's the perfect time.

Speaker 5 (08:26):
And the rule is, well groom Beard's meaning, you can't
show up to.

Speaker 4 (08:31):
Work because it's work. You know, you got to show
up like a professional. You can't show up to work
looking like hobo Williams. You can't look like a hobo.

Speaker 3 (08:38):
Can't look like a member of the four Red Sox exactly,
which I always thought was a crappy look. But work, No,
let me tell you it's it's interesting. And I think
twenty twenty five is the right timing. You know, forget
it's a Yankee.

Speaker 4 (08:52):
A lot of these.

Speaker 3 (08:53):
Young players have more deals than ever with brands on
social media TikTok, Instagram, x. They're doing, they're pimping more
products than ever before. It's a different time, and I
think it was the right move by Steinbrenner, and you
and I were breakfast getting some tailor ham Like you said,
out here in New.

Speaker 4 (09:12):
Jersey, it's not poor and that that argument needs to end. Now.
I know people in.

Speaker 3 (09:17):
Texas or LA or Chicago, bigger cities around the country
are like, who cares about the Yankees' facial hair? It's
an ongoing joke that these dudes had to look like
they were showing up in an accounting office.

Speaker 4 (09:27):
Shaving every day.

Speaker 3 (09:29):
But to the point now where you look back and say,
how many Yankees would have looked different? And now, are
we guaranteed to get a bearded Aaron Judge this year?

Speaker 5 (09:39):
A doubt because in the off season, Yeah, that's how
most of these young dudes are rocking it. In fact,
if you look at us right now, we got a
well groomed scruff going on.

Speaker 4 (09:48):
It's just the way of the world.

Speaker 5 (09:50):
You're going to force these young dudes throck a cornball
mustache like your dad had.

Speaker 4 (09:54):
Get out of here. I mean not to.

Speaker 3 (09:56):
Backtrack a week, but last Friday we filled in for
Colin and Big Sexy Ryan and Danny G. I believe
I asked both of you. This came up literally a
week ago because I said, yo, guys, what was the
last time you shaved your face? And you guys said
years and years?

Speaker 4 (10:13):
Am I right?

Speaker 6 (10:14):
You are correct sir?

Speaker 4 (10:16):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (10:16):
For me Danny G, it's been since high school, my
senior year.

Speaker 4 (10:20):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (10:20):
So when you hear this policy, it is funny how
we probably have talked about this stupid policy more than
any other show, so we could put it to rest.
But it was crazy to wake up this morning and
your phone is lit up, like, oh my god. I
hope nothing bad happened. But we are synonymous with this
stupid story. So I'm glad we got to film for
Colin today.

Speaker 5 (10:37):
But it is a bigger deal because so many people
laughed at the Yankees because of that. If you're not
a Yankees fan, you still looked at it like, yo, man,
that's the most outdated policy possible, you and your stupid
Yankee rules.

Speaker 4 (10:50):
That's so dumb.

Speaker 5 (10:51):
You know, if I was a young player, I wouldn't
want to play there, and as a result, I think
it became an uncool place to play, like what clean
shaving in today's world, Like I'd rather play for another team.
Other teams are willing to pay you nowadays. So yeah,
if there's another team willing to pay you and they're
a contender, and they're gonna let you grow your facial
hair and be who you want to be and be

(11:11):
as flashy as you want to be, and you could
be comfortable.

Speaker 4 (11:13):
In your own skin, why wouldn't you choose that team?

Speaker 5 (11:16):
Yankees were gonna lose talent as a result of this
stupid rule that they held onto.

Speaker 4 (11:20):
And I say stupid from today's standard.

Speaker 3 (11:23):
Yeah, I understood it years ago, Like, hey, you show
up to work as a professional, I get it.

Speaker 5 (11:29):
So I do like the compromise, and I hate to
be that guy. There's so many sports guys especially that
were like I've been saying it. I've always told you
I was the guy.

Speaker 4 (11:40):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (11:40):
I don't want to be that guy. I don't want
to be that guy. But I did say that it starts.

Speaker 4 (11:44):
With one man.

Speaker 5 (11:45):
That man would be Devin Williams, and that it should
be a compromise. And that's exactly what you got. They're
allowed to have a well groomed beard, so they're not
coming in looking like like yeah, like Kevin Malar or
Johnny Damon her old man Winter, Right, you gotta have

(12:05):
a well groomed beard, and I think it's a big,
big move moving forward. I bet you it's a celebration
in the locker room.

Speaker 3 (12:13):
And then it poses a lot of it's a little victory,
right because no one looking like Justin Turner. But look
at this in Vegas, the Yankees over underwent from ninety
two to ninety four wins. Look at that, people are
predicting the beards. Give him two more wins. Yeah, But
interestingly enough, are we going to see every single Yankee
rocking some type of stubble or facial area that's the

(12:35):
John Carlow.

Speaker 4 (12:36):
Yes, I think you're gonna see.

Speaker 3 (12:37):
Think of Garrett Cole when he was an astro, not
a Yankee. Garrett Cole had long hair and a beard.

Speaker 4 (12:41):
Garrett Cole here, I'm already starting starting growing my official
hair again, Garrett Cole. I guarantee that goober. Aaron Judge
taking it back to Houston roots Eric row a little
bit of a mullet too.

Speaker 3 (12:52):
I'm not sure Aaron Judge definitely gonna be having a
beard on opening day. And it was Verdugo former Yankee,
who's a free agent still I believe, said yeah, I
just want to go play for a team where I
could wear my jewelry, grow my.

Speaker 4 (13:06):
Beard and be me.

Speaker 3 (13:07):
So maybe there was a catalyst there too, where they're like, listen,
he didn't work out for us. But you know what
companies you work for. When you leave or they fire
you or you quit, they're like.

Speaker 4 (13:17):
Can you take an exit survey?

Speaker 3 (13:18):
And you're like, yeah, no thanks, but they want you
to take an exit survey on the way out, like
what did you look about our company?

Speaker 4 (13:24):
What didn't you?

Speaker 3 (13:24):
They got a public exit survey from du Goo and
his exit survey was I played for the franchise with
the most history in midjor League baseball, and I hated it.

Speaker 5 (13:34):
Well, any place that you work take it to a
real life situation for everybody listening, where.

Speaker 3 (13:40):
They won't let you be you and you can't do you.
There's a lot of places that hire you right because
they like you. Then when you get there they change
you to do it their way. So now you're out
of your comfort zone and you can't be one hundred
percent your best In a weird way that matters and
translates to baseball you're probably thinking big deals facial hair,

(14:03):
you know.

Speaker 4 (14:04):
Imagine if they forced.

Speaker 5 (14:05):
You to wear a stupid haircut or a certain type
of facial hair at your profession. Again, I think it
would take you out of your game. You would feel
weird about it, like this isn't me.

Speaker 3 (14:16):
I mean, we don't need to harp on this, like
Bryce Harper, who, by the way, would look weird without
facial hair exactly. I don't want to harp on this.
But Danny g just one quick more question for the room.
I've never seen you not wear a hat. What a
Fox Sports was like.

Speaker 4 (14:31):
Oh yes, Daniel, Danny, you can't wear a hat anymore.
That would aggrevate you.

Speaker 6 (14:38):
I have some stylish do rags at home.

Speaker 4 (14:40):
No, no dew rags as well, Danny, you just have
to show your head.

Speaker 3 (14:43):
We call them don't rags here at the offense, respectfully.

Speaker 6 (14:48):
Then I would shave my dome and get a tattoo
on the top of my bald hat.

Speaker 3 (14:52):
Ryan, let me ask you, big sexy Ryan, so you
got a cool ass, like you know, grizzly beard. Imagine
like Ryan, you Ryan would go from looking like James
Harden to James Soften.

Speaker 4 (15:02):
Yeah, he would it's a confidence killer.

Speaker 6 (15:06):
That is killer.

Speaker 3 (15:08):
You look cool with your beard, and I know some
guys like, really, who cares about a beard? I bet
your confidence and how good you feel about yourself comes
with your appearance and it's on your face. So there's
a lot of guys that are like, yeah, I would
look like a baby little boy clean shaven. So think
about that.

Speaker 4 (15:24):
Think about that, and also think about this.

Speaker 3 (15:26):
There will be people that still show up clean shaven,
and that's going to be interesting because you're like, that's
the guy who And then when you read how Steinbrenner said,
he said he got varied opinions.

Speaker 4 (15:39):
So there were people that were like, no, I think
we should stick with the tradition. How right.

Speaker 3 (15:44):
There were people that were probably on the side of
keeping things the way they were, And oh, you know,
George would be rolling over in his grave right now
if you I think George would be happy about this.
It was have to evolve, as we say all the time,
and we quote our pal Gary Vaynerchuk, innovate or die,
and it was becoming a very very dated rule.

Speaker 4 (16:06):
It made a team that I root for.

Speaker 3 (16:07):
Feel little corny after a while, and I think it
is a bigger day than people realize. Yo, I'm just
I'm looking at some of our feedback. Our boss hit
us up with a link. Someone has already done images
of Yankees with different hairstyles and beard.

Speaker 5 (16:25):
That's another thing, rich, Like, how do you think the
people feel like who had to live by these policies?
Like a glaber Torres right, who his whole career with
Yankees had to show up like a little baby boy,
and now you.

Speaker 4 (16:37):
Know he's a tiger.

Speaker 5 (16:38):
He's already got the facial hair going on, but he's like,
oh so now they lift it.

Speaker 4 (16:42):
You know, it's like he just missed the cutting think of.

Speaker 3 (16:44):
Any social issue right where you grew up and they
didn't allow something and now they do. Like for all
we know, Don Mattically and Ron Gidgry are really pissed,
Like yeah, they're like.

Speaker 4 (16:55):
He had a lightning's like I could have had a beard.

Speaker 5 (16:57):
Exactly like all the players from Yesteryear. But look, if
you're a non Yankees fan, I get it you don't
care that much.

Speaker 4 (17:04):
But this is a big deal. Change is a good thing.

Speaker 5 (17:07):
And for the first time you're gonna see Yankee showing up,
you know, with a well groomed beard, not just a
goofy mustache. Your thoughts, that's our take on it. And again,
I hate to be the show that said we told you,
but we did say a compromise was inevitable, inevitable and
coming soon, and today was the day. Well, hey, your

(17:29):
thoughts at eight seven seven for the Herd if you
want to chime in, most interactive show on Fox Sports
Radio at Covin and Rich. I actually made Covino give
me his initial reaction this morning before he went on
the air, and he was actually pretty fired up.

Speaker 3 (17:44):
So you get checked that out. Because it's about time, right,
it really is. It's about time, but it's also the
perfect time. And I know this sounds like a stereotype
of sorts, but you're right. As baseball grows into a
more of an international game, forget about the fact that
it's twenty two twenty five, right, Yeah, it's an international game.
You expect these young Latino players, these Dominican superstars to

(18:08):
want to go and play for a team like the
Yankees and shave something that sort of identifies them. No,
you know what I mean, Like it sounds silly, but
it's not. That's how they look that's how they feel confident,
especially now in twenty twenty five, when this younger generation.

Speaker 4 (18:21):
Is all about being an individual and I want to
be me, and.

Speaker 3 (18:25):
There's conformity is you know, not a thing people are
down with anymore at all.

Speaker 4 (18:29):
So it's the right move. Congrat of the Yankees.

Speaker 3 (18:31):
Ye I'm a Mets fan, but but you know what,
it also shows you not only the pressure that the
players and the young people were putting on the Yankees,
and they were feeling the heat from social media and the.

Speaker 4 (18:40):
Banter and our show. Of course, we've been talking about
it for a long time, basically, like I said, and
your meeting with Hell this is my meeting with Hal.
You know, I was like I found in my fist.

Speaker 3 (18:49):
I'm like, listen, how I'm serious about this flu into
New Jersey for this look as avout the local here.

Speaker 5 (18:53):
I'm telling you we don't want to completely shave. It's
twenty twenty five. I think the Yankees are also making
a statement, and I think we're the first to probably
say it.

Speaker 4 (19:03):
They're feeling the heat, the heat.

Speaker 5 (19:07):
And they know they have to compete, and they're thinking, look,
we have to be the place to be.

Speaker 4 (19:12):
And there's no reason for anyone to want to turn away.

Speaker 5 (19:14):
For this, no reason why anyone should choose to be
a Met or Dodger or any other high market team
or other team that would allow this. We're the Yankees,
and if we're going to compete with these other teams,
we have to make this adjustment.

Speaker 3 (19:28):
Well, hey, coming up on Covino and Rich and for
our buddy Colin on the Herd, two things I definitely
want to get to. I want you to think of
the most unpopular move your team has ever made. Because
the Chiefs their speculation that they might pull the trigger
on a move that fans would lose their mind about,
so unpopular moves your team has made. Plus, last night

(19:53):
both of us watched hockey.

Speaker 4 (19:55):
Can't even believe it.

Speaker 6 (19:55):
You heard me, Well you say what now?

Speaker 4 (19:58):
Yeah, dang for real? You know, guess what. The Yankees
changed their policy.

Speaker 5 (20:03):
And CNR watched some hockey last night and it wasn't
Blades of Steel. We weren't playing Nintendo Blades of Steel,
of ste and we weren't playing Nintendo hockey.

Speaker 4 (20:13):
Well, you picked two medium guys, one skinny guy and
one fat guy.

Speaker 3 (20:16):
Yeah, no, we weren't playing old school video games. We
actually watched hockey.

Speaker 4 (20:19):
Hockey. We haven't thought about hockey.

Speaker 3 (20:21):
Was on the forefront for Nation Faceoff and we'll give
you our thoughts next right here Covino on rich and
for Colin on the Herd.

Speaker 2 (20:31):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and Noone Eastern non am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 5 (20:40):
Welcome back to the show, Covino and rich In for
Colin on the Herd, we're on site on location in
New Jersey. We got Danny g on the phones at eight,
seven to seven for the Herd back in Los Angeles
with Big Sexy Ryan on the ones and twos again
at Covino and Rich on social media if you want
to chime in on on Twitter, on x if you

(21:00):
want to see Rich's dance moves on TikTok, everything what
Tovino and Rich normally on five to seven on the East,
two to.

Speaker 4 (21:07):
Four on the West. It's a pleasure to be here.

Speaker 3 (21:10):
And I know it sounds like the dumbest sort of
thing to celebrate, like wow, Wow, the Yankees got beards, huh,
But it really is a big deal. So a long
overdue story and as a Yankees fan myself, I'm very
pumped about it. You mean Marcos, who's a Red Sox
fan who said Covino, you guys yapped about the Yankees'

(21:30):
hair long enough that he grew a beard himself.

Speaker 4 (21:33):
Oh he actually yeah, he grew a beard. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (21:35):
Oh, Marcos JC on social media, Thank you, bro, I
appreciate it. Before we talk about hockey and play quote
me one of our brand new games. We're giving any
prizes on the show today eight seven seven for the herd.
Let's take a few phone calls and say, what's up?
Wrap this up and move on. Who do we got, dannyj.

Speaker 6 (21:54):
Let's start with Doug in San Diego.

Speaker 4 (21:56):
Hey, Doug's a big day. Welcome to the show. Let's
not come on.

Speaker 3 (22:01):
Let's put a perspective. As dumb as that sounds, it
absolutely is for Yankees fans and for a silly story.

Speaker 4 (22:07):
But the.

Speaker 5 (22:09):
Yankees fans, you mean the most storied franchise in baseball history.

Speaker 4 (22:12):
And now you're losing me. No, but that's the truth.
What's up, San Diego?

Speaker 7 (22:16):
Oh, what's happening? You guys got up at the crack
of noon?

Speaker 4 (22:18):
Huh cracking neon man? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (22:20):
Really, you know you're right, but you know what, we
had time to have lunch, breakfast.

Speaker 4 (22:24):
It was nice, you know, had a nice call. As
my mom would say. We had coffee off the Jersey Excentra. Stephen,
you want coffee, very good, sir.

Speaker 7 (22:35):
I'll tell you what. This is the final piece of
the puzzle for the Yankees. Who needs wom Soto?

Speaker 4 (22:41):
Now we have Stubble.

Speaker 7 (22:42):
I think it's fantastic and it's about time.

Speaker 1 (22:45):
The only problem is George is rolling over in his grave.

Speaker 4 (22:48):
If I knew it, I knew it.

Speaker 3 (22:50):
You know you're gonna say that is it gonna be
someone that says that if they haven't already, like mister
Steinbrenner would not have this. You know, whoever has the
side of that story, you just know as the lamest
guy ever. Seriously, and a lot of people are hitting
me up like what do you think about this?

Speaker 4 (23:03):
Like what do you mean?

Speaker 3 (23:04):
What do I think about it? I think it's about time.
It's good as long as there is a compromise. It's
not everyone's showing up looking like Rip van Winkle. You know,
they're not showing up looking like Hobost. They're showing up
looking like well groomed professionals. I think that's important. And
if that's the compromise, I love it. And you said
it best. It's the best offseason acquisition after Devin Williams

(23:27):
and one Soda that you didn't get care about the
president Wan Soda.

Speaker 4 (23:33):
He's ripping already. Yeah, he's pregnant.

Speaker 6 (23:35):
Let's talk to Solomon in Los Angeles.

Speaker 4 (23:38):
What's up? Solomon? Can you on rich In for Colin today?
What's up?

Speaker 7 (23:40):
But hey, I'm good guys. You know, this is such
an interesting question that you brought up here today. It's
kind of that slippery slope thing. If you're self employed,
you can dress and look however you want. But I
think that changes when you are employed by someone or
an organization. That owner probably has the right to say,
look at this is the look I want to represent

(24:03):
my team.

Speaker 4 (24:04):
Oh yeah, no doubt.

Speaker 3 (24:05):
I just I just think if it was if it
was not just one team has this policy and the
other twenty nine don't. That's that's what it was with
the Yankees, it was we're the most storied franchise. We
don't we don't grow beard. It's like it seems so
outdated at this point. So welcome to twenty twenty five
Yankees fans.

Speaker 5 (24:24):
It is It is that, and you made some great
points and that's what we've been talking about for so long.

Speaker 4 (24:28):
And I'm a I'm a big believer in you.

Speaker 5 (24:31):
You dress for the part that you want and you
show up looking like a professional and always put your
best out there. But this was just long overdue and dated.
And again it's a compromise. The quote again is well
groomed beards, and we move on. I think you're gonna
see a different sense of confidence, a different sense of
swag that the Yankees have needed for a long time.
You know, I still think Derek Jeter would have been

(24:53):
the guy whough to not rock the beard for whatever reason.

Speaker 4 (24:56):
He was like a nerd.

Speaker 3 (24:57):
Regardless, I've never seen him with the spe but it
gives them a swag that they needed to compete in
today's game with these other superstars.

Speaker 4 (25:06):
It's not about the Yankees anymore.

Speaker 5 (25:08):
It's about the Mets, it's about the Phillies, it's about
the Dodgers, it's about the Padres.

Speaker 4 (25:12):
All these young Latino players.

Speaker 5 (25:14):
They want to feel their best, they want to look
their best and play their best. And now the Yankees
get to, you know, play along in that game.

Speaker 3 (25:20):
Just another fun story to go along with everyone getting
ready for baseball, which, by the way, talking to some
buddies less not in the East Coast, and I know
baseball more of an East Coast sport, and you know,
West Coast Dodgers obviously their fans are super excited. Padre
has got some stuff going on, Giants trying to compete again.
But on the East Coast people already talk about how

(25:40):
they're excited about baseball starting up again.

Speaker 4 (25:42):
Without a doubt.

Speaker 5 (25:43):
Yeah, it's gonna be fun to share My brother just
for a different perspective. He's my stupid brother, so he's
not much different than me, but he's a lot younger
than me. And he was like, Yo, yeah, I was
listening to you guys talk about like the excitement the
buzz for baseball this season.

Speaker 4 (25:58):
He's like, you guys are absolutely right. He's like Korea.

Speaker 5 (26:01):
He's like, there's something different, like heading into this season,
there's way more excitement than in recent history.

Speaker 4 (26:06):
Bro. He's like, I can't wait. There's some fun storylines.

Speaker 3 (26:09):
Yeah, all right now baseball excited about it. Football, we
got some good stories coming up, and we just you know,
we're fresh off the Super Bowl, NBA All Star Weekend.
Oh my goodness, how criticized it was. Kevin Durant even said, yeah,
maybe we don't do it moving forward. If you guys
are gonna complain so much, they're already talking about maybe
next year. Danny, did you see a one on one
tournament of the stars for a million dollars? Like they're

(26:31):
they're throwing things at the wall, now, did you see that?

Speaker 5 (26:34):
Well, Danny, G I do respect Silver's willingness to throw
stuff out there to see what sticks. I do appreciate that,
but we also can't deny the fact that they.

Speaker 4 (26:47):
They pulled a stink aroo with this All Star game.

Speaker 3 (26:50):
Yeah, it just didn't go according to playing the whole,
you know, Team Markley versus Team Shack.

Speaker 4 (26:54):
It fell flat, Yeah, Dad, big time. And last night
I don't even know how to explain that.

Speaker 3 (27:01):
The Four Nations face off hockey got my interest to
the point.

Speaker 4 (27:07):
Where you and I threw it on. We're like, dude,
let's watch tonight.

Speaker 5 (27:10):
Well, there was lots of buzz leading up to it,
right and all President Trump called the team exactly.

Speaker 3 (27:17):
There was there was fights in the first matchups, booing
the USA recently and yes, there's a lot of buzz
that was leading up to the game.

Speaker 5 (27:25):
And Rich and I again, we were in Jersey visiting,
my parents were here for a work event Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 4 (27:31):
It was like, well, what you were eating pizza here?
What's on?

Speaker 3 (27:34):
Oh, that hockey game is on? That's tonight, which is like,
that's today. I'm like, yeah, that's nightlight.

Speaker 5 (27:39):
So we put it on, and man, you would have
thought you guys saw it and chime in eight seven
seven for the herd dany g. I don't know if
you watched, Ryan, I don't know if you watched, but
let us know you would have thought you were tuning
in to like an Olympic type of atmosphere.

Speaker 3 (27:54):
You would have thought it was a NHL Stanley Cup
Game seven or a gold medal game in the Olympics.

Speaker 4 (27:59):
It felt big too, simply.

Speaker 3 (28:02):
To the point where I who will self admittedly say
I watch a few NHL playoff games a year, but
I will never watch.

Speaker 4 (28:13):
I don't never watch. I rarely want I'll never watch
a regular season game.

Speaker 3 (28:17):
I'll go to like, you know, one of the dads
at the schools like, hey, you want to go to
a King's game.

Speaker 4 (28:21):
I'll go because it's fun to go to a hockey game.

Speaker 3 (28:23):
But I'll admit it, I am by no means an
NHL fan, But last night I was locked in like
it was Sunday football.

Speaker 5 (28:30):
Absolutely because it felt big nations competing.

Speaker 3 (28:34):
Pride is on the line, you know, and and I
think it starts really there. You see athletes that care
and they're playing for the sport. They're playing to win,
and I think that's the that's the subtle difference. Immediately
you see people putting their heart out there to win
and compete as what sports is about. And that's easily

(28:56):
relatable to anybody tuning in to watch. I'm not a
hockey fan, I'm a sports fan. I like to watch
people compete. We want to see people put their heart
out there. Immediately you see that because they're playing for
their country. They're not playing for the money. They're playing
for the win, for the pride, for the fans, for
the team, for their teammates.

Speaker 4 (29:18):
From the minute the national anthems were sunk.

Speaker 3 (29:21):
Exactly Canada, this is big the US national anthem, like
Rocky versus Drago. It felt like we were in a
battle against our friendly neighbor up north. And it really
was special last night, and if anyone has any further thoughts,
I thought, uh, you know Connor McDavid, that was one

(29:41):
of the biggest stars in the last decade or so
in the hockey world. It seemed appropriate that he was
the guy on a big night. And uh yo, Canada A,
you one uped us. You got Cheesy's, you got poutine,
you got Jim Carrey, you got Evril Levine, well Celine Dion,
Mike Myers, more is Mounty Cops, got a Tim Horton's

(30:04):
Tim Horton and talk there is Bieber from Kenada.

Speaker 4 (30:08):
Yeah he is Bieber. But last night.

Speaker 3 (30:11):
Three to two, and if anyone wants to chime in
on that, I was shocked how pold in I was.
And you gotta give a credit. I was gonna say
home run, I should say goal. A goal, a big
time overtime goal for the NHL, especially following up the
weekast weekend of the wnba A.

Speaker 5 (30:31):
Really exposed the stark contrast from what we saw all
star weekend with basketball.

Speaker 4 (30:39):
I don't know what the numbers will show.

Speaker 3 (30:40):
Basketball took another l last night while hockey.

Speaker 4 (30:44):
Got the double. You know what I felt like, You
know what I felt like? Danny G.

Speaker 3 (30:48):
You felt like, uh, you forgot Valentine's date. The NBA
is the guy that forgot Valentine's Day and then him
and his girl have to see some captain romance who's
like whining and dining his wife because it was a fail,
followed by wow, a league that doesn't get much of
attention really killed it last night.

Speaker 4 (31:06):
By let's go to Danny G with some herd line news.
Come on, no, no, turn on the news.

Speaker 2 (31:13):
This is the herd Line news.

Speaker 6 (31:16):
All right, fellas, Since you guys are big hockey fans
now a legislator.

Speaker 4 (31:20):
Fancy huge, we'll start.

Speaker 6 (31:22):
With We'll start with Canada. Will Nathan McKinnon become a
household name now? After being MVP? McKinnon scored three goals
in the three game round robin, beginning with a powerplay
goal fifty six seconds into Canada's amazing four to three
win over Sweden that was the opening game. Then he
added two goals in a five to three victory over
Finland in Canada's third game, which propelled his team into

(31:43):
the final verse our US team. Of course, it was
a well deserved MVP honor for McKinnon, who got Canada
off to that great start in Sweden, uh, and then
in the United States finals? So is this a jersey
you guys are gonna purchase?

Speaker 4 (31:57):
Now?

Speaker 3 (31:57):
I'll tell you this though, I'm so into it, Danny.
I've knocked out two of my teeth and I started
growing a mullet.

Speaker 4 (32:01):
That's how into hockey I am after last night. But
you know what, it is cool?

Speaker 3 (32:06):
You know how not to sound sexist, but you know
how like sometimes a guy will man explain.

Speaker 4 (32:11):
Football to his wife, Like that's Patrick Mahomes. He's a
big deal.

Speaker 3 (32:15):
Like I'm okay learning a sport that I don't know
much about. Like if you told me name hockey players,
I might name ten. So the fact that it was
highlighted last night, and I'm more of an NFL, NBA,
Major League Baseball guy, I am more than welcoming hockey
and last night, if it's a catalyst for me, caaren
a little bit.

Speaker 4 (32:32):
Going into the NHL.

Speaker 5 (32:33):
Second half is the catalyst for a lot of people.
But that's the difference.

Speaker 3 (32:37):
NBA had the perfect stage to deliver with All Star weekend, right,
Hockey took advantage of that last night.

Speaker 4 (32:47):
So you need a.

Speaker 3 (32:47):
Catalyst, dude, Like they're like Clayton, like Kitlyn Clark and
Angel Rees were for the WNBA. You just need a catalyst,
and all of a sudden you could start grabbing people's attention.
I'm not saying hockey's gonna get twenty million viewers a
game now, but I think there are people that are like,
you know what, that was hell of fun last night.

Speaker 5 (33:02):
That was great competitive, awesome fun to watch, and you
start to remember those names for sure if you know already.

Speaker 6 (33:08):
And now onto a sport. I've been trying to get
you guys more excited about the NBA. The sports media
was very critical of Lebron just a couple of nights
ago after he missed two three pointers at the end
of that Charlotte game, But just one game later, Lakers
head coach JJ Redick had something to say after the
forty year old Lebron dropped forty to lead LA to
a one ten, one h two win over the Blazers.

(33:29):
He really just defies anything that's normal, Reddick said, and
not just the physical feats of the plays, it's the mentality.
He's a billionaire and yet he's playing on the second
night of a back to back at forty after twenty
two years with every frickin' record in every accolade. It's
like he's amazing to coach. He sets the standard for
how you're supposed to approach this craft.

Speaker 4 (33:49):
You know what.

Speaker 3 (33:50):
Cavino loves to get down on Lebron. I don't know
if you've been listening recently, why would you say saying
that he's ruining photos? And you know he's a selfish guy.
I've always been a Lebron guy. Yeah, I'm not a
super fan, but Danny, you know what I think would
be cool. I mean, honestly, when you to think about
what a you know, good dude, he really is Lebron
James like you know, keeps his nose cleaning, a good
role model. Yeah, he flops here in there. Yeah, he

(34:10):
looks selfish at times. But wouldn't it be nice if
he led the Lakers to an NBA Finals championship and
then he told everyone to just lick?

Speaker 4 (34:19):
He just told everyone tootsies.

Speaker 3 (34:22):
Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, But I mean he should imagine
Lebron wins and he's like, I'm out.

Speaker 4 (34:26):
That would be a great ending the team. He is
doing stuff.

Speaker 3 (34:29):
When you think about everyone who just sweats MJ and
all the legends.

Speaker 4 (34:33):
They were not even close to doing what.

Speaker 3 (34:35):
He's doing at his age, so people love to leave
that part out of the narrative.

Speaker 6 (34:39):
Yeah, and by the way, Luca was inactive trying to
nurse that injury. They feel like he kind of rushed
back a little bit. So hopefully he heals up and
can get going there with the Lakers and we will
rap with the NFL guys. Aaron Rodgers is likely gonna
play a wild card role in the NFL carousel. According
to NFL dot Com. If the former four time NFL

(34:59):
in he wishes to continue his career with the Jets,
they're expected to release him. Of course, he's gonna need
to find a team willing to give him a shot.
But what is Aaron looking for in a new club?
TMZ tracked down the forty one year old who saw this,
who was kind of happy after a workout. They asked
him what factor he's a Factors he's taking into consideration

(35:20):
if they want you.

Speaker 4 (35:21):
Rogers said, yeah, he wants to be loved.

Speaker 3 (35:24):
He wants to be loved Danny g which I think
we all in a relationship in a work situation, you
want to be wanted, And he said he wanted to
be surrounded by top notch personnel.

Speaker 6 (35:33):
Correct, Yeah, But the main thing he just wants to
be wanted.

Speaker 4 (35:37):
I want to be wanted.

Speaker 3 (35:39):
He want not to say personnel, and then he has
want you to want me. And if you keep reading on,
he also threw in he wouldn't be opposed to nice weather.
And I know the quarterback carousels they put it is
still in motion. But I think the first chip to
fall has to be whether or not the Rams stick
with or move on from Matthew Stafford because I heard want.

Speaker 4 (35:59):
To be the content.

Speaker 3 (36:00):
I heard Colin talking about it right here on the
Herd Stars. No, there's a lot, all right, if that's
the truth.

Speaker 5 (36:05):
There's a lot of women rich that would love you,
but they're not women you want, right, So you also
want to be with someone that's attractive to you, and
that would be a team that's contending. So it's not
just someone that wants you. Were a team that wants you.

Speaker 4 (36:22):
You also want to play for that team. That's true.

Speaker 5 (36:25):
So yeah, but he's sort of down playing that part.
You don't want to end up with a stinker. You
don't want to you don't want to end up on
a weak ass whack ass team.

Speaker 3 (36:33):
When we went over the possible landing spots for Aaron
Rodgers a couple a week ago, three decent week we
left off the Rams because at that point there wasn't
a speculation that they move on from Matthew Stafford. Now
that that's the possibility, the Rams West Coast, Aaron Rodgers
nice Weather.

Speaker 4 (36:51):
So fi like sort of makes sense.

Speaker 6 (36:55):
So yeah, or if your boy perty Rich wants too
much money, maybe you can fill in for your.

Speaker 3 (37:00):
You know what, I'm the crazy forty nine Ers fan.
That's not a post that I like brought party a lot.
And when we talked to Fred Warner at the Super Bowl,
he looked in my eyes, he looked into my soul
and he's.

Speaker 4 (37:10):
Like Rich, I'm like, yes, Fred Warner, He's like, promise you.
Party's the guy.

Speaker 3 (37:14):
But if they don't want to pay Party fifty or sixty,
I'm not crazy against the idea of Aaron for one
plus years and you draft a quality rookie who knows.

Speaker 4 (37:23):
Thank you, Danny. That was the herd Line news.

Speaker 2 (37:27):
Well that's the news, and thanks for stopping by the
herd Line news.

Speaker 3 (37:31):
All right, So why did the Four Nations title the
tournament last night resonate.

Speaker 5 (37:36):
With so many people because I believe that's the buzz.
I think a lot of people tuned in and we're like,
whoa man, that what Wow, what a refreshing game. We're

Speaker 5 (39:07):
We were so impressed with that game last night, Thanks
again to Nick Chavis with the hockey rhyme reel recap
four Nations. Congrats to Canada, but impressive to say the least.
Like I said, hey, Rich and Ize, knowledge of hockey
doesn't go far beyond.

Speaker 4 (39:24):
Blades of steam. It really doesn't. Blades of steel. You're
blade of steel guy.

Speaker 3 (39:29):
I told you I was more of a Nintendo hockey
guy where you picked two medium guys, one skinny guy,
one fat guy.

Speaker 4 (39:36):
I like that too.

Speaker 3 (39:37):
Look, we rarely watch hockey, but last night was impressive.
Stark difference from other sports, mainly the NBA, because we're
fresh off of that stinker of an All Star weekend
where they had the chance to really make an impact.
You had one night to win over so many fans
to bring you from NFL to the NBA, but instead

(39:58):
we're talking baseball beards and Yankees and all offseason acquisitions.
And last night hockey had their moment, had their chance,
and I thought they delivered.

Speaker 5 (40:10):
It was a major win for hockey, major win for Canada,
but USA represented and it went over time again. Connor
McDavid lifted Canada over the USA for the Four Nations
title in ot But.

Speaker 4 (40:24):
Do you think Trump reached out to Team USA. I'm
so disappointed. No, I don't know, losers.

Speaker 3 (40:30):
But as we trying to put our finger on why
it felt so big and so good, listen to what PK.

Speaker 4 (40:37):
Suban had to say about that.

Speaker 8 (40:39):
I'm sick and tired of making athletes greats, all time
greats that aren't the best examples.

Speaker 4 (40:45):
Stephen A.

Speaker 8 (40:46):
You want athletes to be educated on this and understand this.
They got to understand the importance of showing up to
the All Star Game and.

Speaker 6 (40:53):
Being on the court.

Speaker 8 (40:54):
Because you're making one hundred two hundre three hund a million,
you should be out there banged up.

Speaker 4 (40:59):
You should.

Speaker 8 (41:00):
That's why we pay you is to max out. I
don't care if you play fifty years. I want your
best ten. I want you on the court, dominating. I
want you to go all out. I want Michael Jordan,
I want Kobe That's what I want in every sport.

Speaker 6 (41:15):
That's the guy that I followed.

Speaker 4 (41:17):
Your different version than that.

Speaker 6 (41:18):
You don't get my respect.

Speaker 3 (41:20):
Oh, and the NHL last night showed such heart and
huavos in sport man.

Speaker 5 (41:29):
It was about winning, It was about their teammates. It
was about the fans that go there. That was so
well put, so well said. Even Stephen A. Smith had
a You're absolutely right. Not not much I could say
about that. He was just shaking his head in agreement
with everything PK. Su Wance said. So, now we turn
it over to you to Fox Sports Radio, nation of
the herd who watch hockey all the time.

Speaker 4 (41:51):
What were your thoughts, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (41:52):
Your thoughts about last night plus the weakest move your
team has ever made.

Speaker 4 (41:56):
This is a story about the Chiefs. We'll get to
it coming up on The Herd
