(00:37):

Speaker 4 (00:39):
It is messed up.
Speaker 3 (00:41):
I'm gonna checked up, just like free Agency.
Speaker 5 (00:44):
That's right. I'm gonna blame the weekend host, which I'm
a part of, because every time I sit there, I
feel the same way.

looks worse than.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
Great for the medium of radio perfect. Sorry if you're
driving along, I just got an email, Dear Dan, your
mic looks jack Thump. Free agency is here and it
hasn't really even started in the NFL. New league gears
starts on Monday. Here is the tamperless window, and it
started boom boom boom boom boom. Heck, it actually even
(01:38):
felt like it started yesterday. Monster, absolutely, because you had
players who were released from their contracts that were able
to sign other places. And then maybe it started on
Friday with the Ginosmith trade to the Raiders. Maybe that
was the point. The point being is the new league
year isn't until Wednesday, and the face of the NFL
has already drastically changed with so many moves today.
Speaker 6 (01:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:58):
No, I was confused with the Adam's signing because of
that free agency you're talking about it.
Speaker 4 (02:02):
I was like, I knew he was released, I didn't
know he could sign already. Yes, that was shocking. No,
it's been.
Speaker 5 (02:07):
It's definitely been in the works for longer than just
a few hours.
Speaker 3 (02:12):
And the Sam Donald to Seattle thing, to me hits
home because if you've listened, I'm a Seahawks fan. Whether
you follow me on X, I don't always tweet about
the Seahawks, or are you following me on Blue Sky
at dan byer by the ways where you can find
me get that in there. I do like to talk
about when the Seahawks are in the news because a
lot of times, even though I have told you my disdain,
(02:33):
not disdain for the new Seahawks fans, the ones that
don't even know the homegrown era, let alone the Dennis
Ericson era or the Tom Flora's era or the Chuck
Knox era. I get all that, but I felt that
there was such a misrepresentation of what the Seahawks team
was last year compared to this year. And now you
have Sam Donald signing a three year deal worth just
(02:56):
north of one hundred million dollars and it played out
exactly like I thought it would. When we found out
on Friday that Gino Smith was being traded to the Raiders,
I feel that Gino Smith and Sam Donald are down
near the same quarterback Gino Smith may be a little
bit better, but Geno Smith is a little bit older,
and I think Geno Smith's gonna get a little bit
more money than he got or will get from the
Raiders and he would have gotten in Seattle, which is
(03:18):
one of the reasons why he left. Sam Donald is
not getting nearly as much, but he is twenty seven
years old, and you can balance these things out. He's
gonna make less than forty million dollars a year. I
don't think that the Seahawks wanted to pay more than
forty million dollars a year. So Sam Donald fits. The
tie in with Clint Kubiak was mentioned on Friday. All
of this falls into place, and while so many people
(03:39):
thought that Sam Donald was going to be a Seahawk,
it was for the money that was the most important thing,
because money matters, and we'll talk about how money matters throughout.
But with this free agency, the Sam Donald news isn't shocking.
The only thing that was interesting to me was the
numbers comes in under forty million dollars. As a Seahawks fan, like, fine,
sign me up, let's start this new regime.
Speaker 5 (03:59):
Well, that's good that you're starting on a positive note.
So just real quick question. If you could have kept
Geno Smith for the same money, would you have you
would ask okay, okay, so you wouldn't have made changes,
but you knew what was coming, you felt it was inevitable.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
Correct, Okay. I just don't think. And it's funny because
I felt there was revisionist history on Geno Smith, not
that people were throwing shade at Geno Smith like they
did in most of his career and then early in
his time in Seattle. I think that the narrative is
obviously changed and there are numbers to back it up
because of how Geno Smith is played. It's just the
fact of Seattle sitting there saying to themselves, we have
(04:35):
to address the offensive line, we have to address other pieces,
and they have not hit in certain areas in the past.
Was this core of Gino Smith and DK Metcalf, which
was another huge move yesterday in the trade that they made.
Was that core going to get them to a Super Bowl? No? No,
it was not going to They were a ten win team.
I said it on this network. I think I even
(04:56):
said it with Gavino and Rich They're a play. They
may make the plays, but the not a playoff team.
Speaker 5 (05:01):
And that's I heard you say that yesterday and I
was like, that's an excellent way to put it, because
they were on the verge of getting into the playoffs.
But were they a playoff team and comparesson to the others,
not so much.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
In Sam Donald's final couple of games with the Vikings
may have done, you know, Seattle a favor. If he
doesn't go out like that, he's probably making well north
of forty million dollars. But I do think that there
was a selective market to it. But it's interesting because
I think Sam Donald is the headliner of the day,
But when you have so many moves in free agency,
(05:33):
and Isaac's been trying to keep up with them for
the last four hours, it seems to change by the minute.
And we thought that Sam Donald was probably going to
be a Seahawk on Friday. So I'm not even sure
if that's even the biggest news of the day. Yeah,
considering what's gone down in NFL for you, No, not
at all.
Speaker 4 (05:47):
It was expected that he was going to be there.
Speaker 5 (05:48):
I guess the question was the numbers in the years,
And it seems like you were right on the money
about that.
Speaker 3 (05:53):
I am under forty million dollars. Yeah, and that's that's
what they wanted to pay Gino Smith. There was a
report that came out that Seattle was made going to
go north to forty to forty five million dollars. I
don't know if that's true or not, but whatever if
it was, it wasn't enough for Gino Smith to want
to be there. A falling out on Thursday allow the
Seahawks to make the move on Friday to end up
trading them. So if you're getting the same basically the
(06:15):
same quarterback, we you have the same concerns of throwing
interceptions because they both in the past have had a
tendency to throw interceptions. If you have a younger guy
at a cheaper price and get a third round pick,
I just don't know how you can look poorly on that.
Speaker 4 (06:29):
Yeah, no, totally.
Speaker 5 (06:30):
I mean, I don't know who's seam Donald is going
to throw the ball to, but I guess that's something
that you'll figure out.
Speaker 4 (06:34):
At some point road down the road.
Speaker 3 (06:37):
About that right now, I'll just run it seventy two
times a game. That's the well with that offensive line
that they haven't spent any money, that's The other part
of this is I thought, because they had all this money,
lookout world, look at all the players that the Seahawks
are signing on the offensive line, and so far, Donald's
been the only one that's so I guess all of
the Seahawks' land is not happy. But I'm sure there
(06:57):
are other teams in the National Football League that are
happy today with free agency.
Speaker 4 (07:01):
I'm sure there. I'm really curious to know. We should
ask Ian, our.
Speaker 5 (07:05):
Editor out there, how the Jets are feeling, because I'm
very intrigued with this Justin Field signing for New York.
I thought Justin Fields was gonna stay in Pittsburgh.
Speaker 4 (07:14):
That's the vibe I got.
Speaker 5 (07:16):
And every time I asked around, speaking with Adam Kaplan
on the weekend, it seemed like they wanted to keep him,
you know, not Russell Wilson.
Speaker 4 (07:23):
It seemed like they were more into Justin Fields.
Speaker 5 (07:25):
Yes, And so I really thought he was gonna stay
in Pittsburgh and I didn't anticipate him going to New York.
And the reason I'm so intrigued with this is because
I feel that there are still open ended questions when
it comes to Justin Fields. I feel like with Sam Darnold.
You kind of know what you're gonna get, You're expecting
a certain performance with Justin Fields. I feel like there's
maybe a positive expectation, Like I'm just wondering how Jets
(07:49):
fans are feeling.
Speaker 4 (07:50):
Because I'm very intrigued for him to go to New
York and.
Speaker 3 (07:53):
I'm in the camp that I think you know what
you're gonna get.
Speaker 4 (07:56):
With Justin you think you know what you're gonna get.
Speaker 3 (07:58):
I think he is what he is, and I feel
that there are people around the league that are still waiting,
and I actually understand. I feel that there's this underlying
deal with Justin Fields because and it goes all the
way back to high school because of how highly touted
he was, and honestly, quarterbacks Sam Donald is kind of
(08:20):
the same thing where you know the talent is there,
so you're gonna get opportunity after opportunity, and sometimes you
feel that it's wasted. But I feel with someone like
Baker Mayfield, heck, maybe even Gino Smith for that man,
there was a point in Gino Smith's last year at
West Virginia where he was the Heisman trophy leader. Then
Johnny Football took over and the rest was history. But
(08:41):
that's how good Gino Smith was playing. There was a
time when he was thought to be a first round pick,
maybe a topic in the NFL, ended up falling to
the second round. Look at how many times Baker Mayfield
had to turn things around. Goes from Cleveland where there's
a falling out, goes to Carolina, doesn't work, has a
great time with the Rams, ends up going to Tampa,
wins the battle, and what do you know, He's the guy.
A guy like Justin Fields, like Baker Mayfield, like Gino Smith,
(09:05):
like Sam Darnold, get more opportunities because of who they
were in a previous time of their career. Top high
school prospect, top prospect going into college. Justin Fields was
really good in his first year at Ohio State. The
second year was a COVID year. And you're saying to yourself,
all right, well, maybe what is what? But now Justin
Fields has been in the league for, you know, for
(09:27):
a handful of years, with opportunities after opportunities, and I
just feel that we do know who he is, and
that actually may be a good thing with the New
York Jets. But I think to your point of what
makes Justin Field so intriguing is I feel so many
people do feel hey, wait a second, he could be
he could be that guy that made him that five
start to go to Georgia and do what he did
(09:48):
at Ohio State.
Speaker 4 (09:49):
You know, I don't know if he had all the
right opportunities with Chicago. You could argue he didn't.
Speaker 5 (09:55):
You could, especially with what Chicago's doing now to help
Caleb Williams. But I feel like with his short stint
in Pittsburgh, there was the flashes were there, the flashes
of there may be more that we haven't seen. And
you're probably right that because of what he did in
college and the expectation for so many years adds to
this as to why I'm intrigued.
Speaker 4 (10:16):
Didn't he did he play with Garrett Wilson in college? Maybe?
And then then there's that connection.
Speaker 5 (10:22):
And also like the jet's going complete opposite of what
Aaron Rodgers is. You know they were they were so
he left them such a bad taste in their mouth
that they were like, we are gonna go opposite here
of what Aaron Rodgers is.
Speaker 3 (10:33):
I think Mancy has struck gold because she just said something.
And by the way, for those of you that don't
know our coworker Jade's episode of People Puzzler is on
our Fox local.
Speaker 4 (10:45):
Oah, look at that.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
Yes, just just to let that people, if you catch
People Puzzler are great. Coworker Jade, who is awesome that
she is. I know how this turns out, so I
won't spoil again, but I'm sorry what a co worker
is on a national game show. I have to mention,
but you struck Gold with his Justin Fields point because
(11:07):
we blame the organizations instead of putting the responsibility on
the player. And I think it's easy to do. When
you look at the Chicago Bears and what a mess
that it was there, I think, yeah, I think that
we do that in these sort of situations of why
(11:29):
maybe it didn't work out, why they showed flashes. I
don't know if Pittsburgh is the greatest spot to be
to be in because recent history has shown they haven't
handled their quarterback position correctly. They didn't handle it correctly
with Ben Roethlisberger. They were completely held hostage by him
late in his career because he didn't want to retire,
he didn't want to leave, and so now you have
(11:50):
Ben Roethlisberger who can't throw the football ten yards still
as your starting quarterback. So it's been so it's been
mismanaged in a way. To see how Russell Wilson played
at the end of the Steelers season made a lot
of people like you and Carrie Rhoades, who we do
the show with on Sunday, questioning if you should have
kept Justin Fields in the whole time. And I think
it's those questionable decisions that lead to the point that
(12:11):
you're saying, that lead the door open. Absolutely, we don't
want to blame the player, at least in this situation,
because there was dysfunction with the Bears, no doubt about it.
We saw it in this past season when Justin Fields
wasn't even there. That was a constant you want to
hope and you want to believe that if things get
straightened out like they were in Minnesota with Sam Donald,
(12:34):
look at what it did for Sam Donald.
Speaker 4 (12:36):
I was just about to say, or you can even
think of Baker.
Speaker 5 (12:38):
Mayfield, him leaving a quote unquote bad organization and where
he is now, Like that adds to it. When you
see other players, you know, look at them, they just
needed to be in the right place at the right time.
Speaker 3 (12:50):
I do want to bring in Chris Purfet, technical producer
Pride of Detroit. Chris Hi, I have a theory. I
want to test this out with, Okay, Chris professio, Jason Stewart,
is isak Low and Cronell hanging out on Covino and Rich.
Aaron Glenn had a first hand to look at Justin
Fields for a couple of years in Detroit and now
is his starting quarterback. Do you think that played in
(13:13):
in him going to and bringing him into New York?
Is having that first hand look of defending him and
watching him as he did those couple of years.
Speaker 1 (13:22):
I've got to think it's gotta play a role. Like
I've been trying to wrap my head around this Justin
Fields signing because on first of blush, it's just I
know there's not much of a market and not a
lot that the Jets can do on drafting a quarterback
right now. But like Justin Fields does not scream like
one of the first options you would go to. But
you've reset the culture there, You've cut out Aaron Rodgers,
(13:44):
and I do think there is something as I look
more at Justin Fields, like Okay, I can see that
vision there Dan because of the experience. He knows what
Justin Fields can do. You're not going to have a
great passing quarterback with him. But when you're talking about
Aaron Glenn, you're talking about what the Detroit Lions we're
doing when he was there, and you know he brought
in Lions guys to be his OC and Tanner Engstrom.
(14:05):
It's a lot of tight end stuff, running the ball,
physical football. He's promised the same with the Jets, and
I've got to feel like Justin Fields, who we know.
He's very good with his legs. He's tough, and he's tough.
That's the other thing, Manzie, He's very tough. I start
to I'm starting to put it together a little bit
in my head. I still don't know if I like
(14:26):
the amount of money they've paid for him for that price,
considering he couldn't play a full season for the Steelers
last year. But I start to see the vision there
and it is that familiarity Dan that I think makes
this work.
Speaker 3 (14:37):
So I just brought up Justin Field's game logs from
twenty twenty two and twenty twenty three against Detroit, passing
wise one hundred and sixty seven yards, two touchdowns, in
an interception in their first meeting in twenty twenty two,
running the ball. I'm sorry, Chris, this may be flash.
Oh oh no. No, Lions ended up winning the game, but
thirteen carries one hundred and forty seven yards in two
(14:59):
touch and sixty seven yard touchdown run Lions killed him
on New Year's Day of twenty twenty three, where Justin
Fields only threw for seventy five yards, had ten carries
for one hundred and thirty two yards in their game
that they had in twenty twenty three of their matchups
they had in twenty twenty three. Lions win the game
against the Bears in twenty twenty three on November nineteenth,
(15:22):
Justin Fields threw for one hundred and sixty nine yards
in a touchdown, had eighteen carries for one hundred and
four yards.
Speaker 1 (15:27):
One of those games they almost got the Lions too.
I remember, yeah, Like, look, this is the two things
Justin Fields was good at against the Lions. Aaron Gleed
would know this. Aaron Glen's defense like to blitz a lot.
Fields was good against the blitz and Lions always had
trouble dealing with a running quarterback and Justin Fields can
do that. So, yeah, I think the opportunity cost was
absolutely there for the Jets.
Speaker 3 (15:47):
Yeah, I think that that makes a lot of sense
getting that first hand. Look, this guy tore us up
and we had a difficult time in dealing with him.
We want to run the ball, Aaron Glennz brought in
as a defensive coach. It makes it makes a lot
of sense. It actually, in a weird way, may made
more sense for Justin Fields to the Jets than Sam
(16:08):
Donald to Seattle.
Speaker 4 (16:09):
Well, I was about to say that.
Speaker 7 (16:11):
I I was about to say, so do you think
maybe no. No, It's funny because I was going to
ask you that because it seems as though if you
told me in the pre show meeting that you think
that the Seahawks are going to have a run first
approach to this season, and if you're going to do that,
then maybe Fields would have made a little bit more
sense than Saam Donald.
Speaker 4 (16:32):
But at the same time, I don't see it. I
don't know if I would have been as in j.
Speaker 3 (16:35):
Yeah, I don't know if Justin Fields in Seattle makes sense. Correct. Yes,
I'm with you, And as they said, I feel like
I'm a Justin Fields fan. I just feel that I
feel that the verdict is in. Yeah, And I think
that the people who don't feel that the verdict is
in I hear you.
Speaker 4 (16:53):
The ones that have made the decision, They've made it.
Speaker 3 (16:56):
Here's the funny thing about Sam Donald to the Seahawks
is that I don't even know if the verdict is
in on Sam Darnold, which I think it is, but
I just don't. I don't know there's any way that
he can match what he did last year, and I
hope they're just trying to get maybe eighty five to
ninety percent of that. He was in such a unique,
great position with Minnesota, with the coaching there and the
people there, and the targets that he had there with
(17:18):
Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison and all of the weapons
that it worked out so well for him. It's going
to be tough to match that success. We'll see how
he does in Seattle. It's been an absolute, crazy, crazy day.

unquote upsets happened this year more THAN i feel like
in past seasons and teams THAT i.
Speaker 4 (23:47):
Just out of.
Speaker 5 (23:48):
NOWHERE i, mean LIKE byu JUST i wouldn't want to
see them on the, wall AND i wouldn't want to
see them in the.
Speaker 4 (23:54):
Tournament you, Know Saint john's With Rick, PETINA i feel
like a great, story what a GREAT i just feel like.
Speaker 5 (24:00):
This entire season has actually been really, great and not
just this past, weekend but this past weekend definitely put
a cherry on top to a great.
Speaker 3 (24:11):
Season it was the. Beatino Saint john's story is unreal
it for how quickly the turnaround is drawn and now
year number two to bring that back that. Atmosphere it's
actually something THAT i speak with The gottlieb a lot
on his show when we talk about our days of
college basketball. Past that's one of the things that Like
(24:34):
Saint john's being good and The garden being back to
what it is for college basketball in Those Saint john's,
games it is a big. Deal and while the top
Like auburn's been number one for so long up until
today When duke now overtook. Them below The auburn And,
dukes you have had some teams moving around here and.
(24:54):
There you mentioned A byu, team you, KNOW i remember
their game Against arizona a couple of weeks ago was drama.
Filled you have a late foul at the. End all
of that again leads to and lends to the argument
of why college basketball is so. Special BUT i would
also say this isn't The Lebron luca Or luca trade
(25:16):
to The lakers sort of. Deal BUT i Felt Lakers
celtics had a different energy On saturday. NIGHT i thought
that that was that was really good and not to play.
Favorites but On sunday night this happened on Fan Duel SPORTS.
Tv for THE shooti for the.
Speaker 1 (25:37):
Yes hot damn The clippers get it over.
Speaker 4 (25:41):
Time oh it was so. Good it was so.
Speaker 5 (25:45):
GOOD i don't know what it is About kawhi and
those shots that like with the shooters touch that don't
go in right, away that make. YOU i told you
when during the pre show that shot when he was
a raptor Against.
Speaker 4 (25:58):
PHILADELPHIA i felt LIKE i could tell you my life
story as that ball decided whether it was going in or. Out,
yesterday very similar.
Speaker 5 (26:04):
FEELING i sat, THERE i was just, watching and WHEN
i went, IN i DIDN'T i didn't even my jaw,
dropped LIKE i couldn't believe he made that left. HANDED
I clippers fan wearing A Reggie Jackson clipper jersey.
Speaker 4 (26:16):
Today, actually, UH i that's.
Speaker 3 (26:18):
The jersey from that, era, RIGHT.
Speaker 5 (26:22):
I think you're thinking of another one THAT i Have
chris Paul in with Baby.
Speaker 4 (26:25):
Blue.
Speaker 3 (26:25):
Ok but, yes this is this is just a shirt
for a. Girl this is a.
Speaker 5 (26:29):
GIRL i had to have it custom made BECAUSE i
didn't have Any Reggie jackson jerseys for. Women SO i
have a custom made because he WAS i hit a
great couple of games for The, clippers.
Speaker 4 (26:40):
AND i remember being, like if he has another great game,
Today i'm buying his.
Speaker 5 (26:42):
Jersey and he, did and THEN i had to buy a.
Jersey so HERE i am with The Reggie jackson.
Speaker 4 (26:46):
Jersey no. Regrets, yes Uh.
Speaker 5 (26:48):
Kawhi leonard has lost a ton of weight that you
can see as you watch, him AND i feel like
he's still figuring out his new body and he is
not as strong as, before and he has. Struggled we
have been great and like stayed afloat despite this because
Of James harden And Norman, powell who is out right
(27:09):
now with that hamstring. Injury we need him. Back we
lost like seven out of eight nine. Games there was
a rough stretch And James, harden who hit the game
winner to send the game to, overtime.
Speaker 4 (27:20):
Wouldn't be here with. Them he's probably the real.
Speaker 5 (27:22):
Story but to See kawhi hit a game winner after
he's been struggling was. Amazing and then on, top it
wasn't a damn three pointer that we saw them. Take
he actually went, in got a little you, know post up,
action went. Lefty he had four kings guarding him at
one point in that, picture there's four of, them all the.
Speaker 4 (27:44):
Kings, man is that humpty? Dumpty is that? What that? Is?
Speaker 5 (27:49):
Good it was So i'm so appreciative of that because
that was actual. Basketball it Was Kawhi, leonard Vintage Kawhi,
leonard and The clippers needed to. Win it was so
it was so, good and hearing it With Brian seman
was even.
Speaker 3 (28:03):
Better it's why It's appreciation. Weekend it is appreciation.
Speaker 4 (28:07):
Weekend, now let me.
Speaker 3 (28:07):
Let me say. This does that give you hope for the?
Speaker 5 (28:10):
Playoffs it gives me hope in this sense that maybe
we're gonna have a fun little.
Speaker 4 (28:16):
Run. Now DO i think The clippers are gonna win the? Championship?
Speaker 1 (28:19):
NO i.
Speaker 4 (28:19):
DON'T i.
Speaker 5 (28:20):
DON'T i don't think we can BEAT okac in a
seven game.
Speaker 4 (28:24):
SERIES i don't. THINK i.
Speaker 5 (28:27):
DON'T i don't know if we could beat The lakers
right now a seven game.
Speaker 4 (28:30):
Series i'm being, honest you.
Speaker 5 (28:32):
Know but it gives me hope and like positive positive
feeling that maybe this season won't it'll be a good
end of the.
Speaker 4 (28:42):
Season maybe we get a, run maybe we win the
first round in the. Playoffs DO i think we're gonna
win the? Championship?
Speaker 3 (28:47):
No that's What Appreciation weekend is all. About, yeah because
you appreciate it for what it, is and THE, nba
admittedly as a problem of so much weights being put
on the. Playoffs monty came into the studio today mad
because someone Shouted lakers because she was wearing Her Clippers.
Speaker 4 (29:06):
Jersey, renfree y'all rent.
Speaker 3 (29:10):
Free but there's a there's also a bigger there's a
bigger thing to. That you were excited to See Kawhi
leonard hit that, shot, yes just for a, moment which
extended your lead Over, sacramento who you're battling that right,
now gave you a cushion and it made you feel.
Good that's what sports are. About oh, yeah that's what
(29:32):
sports are supposed to be. About and so that's that's
what we need to take from. This and so when
we have arguments about maybe why THE nba isn't as,
appealing it's not meant to be A debbie, downer Because
saturday with The lakers And celtics was a great. Atmosphere
celtics come out of the gates of the second, half
(29:54):
seemingly gonna run away from The. Lakers The lakers come,
back but for the forty eight minutes it felt like
it Was it meant, something even though it didn't mean
anything except Being lakers And. Celtics so when you put
all of your eggs in the basket of THE nba
playoffs or a, championship, yeah a flippant comment like big
(30:15):
Deal clippers are gonna win the total, anyway like that.
Speaker 4 (30:17):
Totally means the whole absolutely.
Speaker 3 (30:19):
Point of watching the. Sport you were able to find
excitement and greatness in this, case maybe get a little
more juice out of that orange that Is kauhai's magical.
Speaker 5 (30:31):
Career absolutely like ending on a high note would be
obviously to win the whole, thing but that's not. Realistic
this gives me just oh, Man, okay we might we
might not end the season so.
Speaker 3 (30:43):
Bad that, Yeah and that's that's HOW i feel about
the college basketball that we. Saw yeah, again AND i
go JUST i go back to the to The Auburn alabama.
Game but because that is so important to what that
is for for your team and your highlight packages and
when teams come back to be. Honored so When alabama
(31:03):
puts together a highlight package from Their Final four run
last year and those players come back ten years and
they're showing highlights of all the players that played on that,
team that's going to be one of the highlights that
they end up, playing even though it wasn't that. Season
it's just the point of Whenever Mark siers comes back To,
tuscaloosa you're going to have. That AND i feel sometimes
when we talk in these, REALMS i know you're a
(31:26):
native of Southern, californlifornia grew up. HERE i grew up
in a state where my hometown was ten. Thousand packers
are the biggest, deal but it is ALSO i went
to a college where At, wisconsin where it's a big,
deal like it's a college. Town it's what it, is
and they are college towns, everywhere AND i feel sometimes
(31:46):
with the mainstream media when we're talking about, sports we
don't take it from those views of what that college
win could. Be one of the saddest things THAT i
saw this past weekend was Actually arkansas. Fans they're doing
a whole new seating arrangement with The Arkansas razorbacks, basketball
(32:08):
trying to raise more. Money you can see the tweets
everywhere fans who have been there twenty thirty seasons sitting
in their seats Watching arkansas. BASKETBALL i know they got
a new arena From barnhill to Bud, walton but people are,
like after twenty eight, YEARS i can't afford to have
these seats. Anymore, yeah it's been a fun. Run, Yeah
and like those those things are. Sad it's tough because
(32:31):
it's a, whole, evolving changing world of college basketball now Within,
ali you're trying to squeeze as much money out of,
it but it stinks for people who have watched those
games for thirty eight. Years it's so much more than,
well how'd you do in THE ncaa? Tournament, absolutely how'd you?
Do and so like those are real. Things so when
good things do happen on a weekend in those, Games
(32:52):
Michigan state sending off their seniors with a win over
a Rival, michigan those are good things.
Speaker 5 (32:57):
You have to, enjoy you, know you hit something that's
even bigger of like, This i'm going to say this
younger generation of sports fans are different than than, me
than you then the older generation in so many different,
ways obviously because of, money betting and all of. That
where it's like when you are a fan of a
team and you've been a fan of a team for
a long, time you live for, Moments you live for,
(33:21):
moments and then other people who just jump on the
on the bandwagon are living for a. Championship, yes and
it's very, different you, know like it's it's not the.
Same we want those moments because we won't forget. Them
you won't forget.
Speaker 4 (33:34):
Them if you're a.
Speaker 5 (33:35):
Real, fan you won't go back to that and how you,
felt and, yeah winning is what you want to.
Speaker 3 (33:40):
Do flag's dunk On North. Carolina oh, yeah the recent
one at the end of The, yeah at the, end
which kind of sealed the. Deal you knew it wasn't
going to happen for The Tar. Heels Cooper flagg's gonna
spend you, know eight months On duke's. Campus you, know
they'll go to THE, nba you, know in a, month.
Speaker 4 (33:56):
And don't, dude stay stay At.
Speaker 3 (33:59):
Duke duke point ping Is he's only going to be
there a, year one, year but that highlight lives on
In duke basketball. History it's not just thrown away of
all one and. Done, yeah, no like that is that.
Stays And North carolina's probably gonna Dislike Cooper flag forever
because of that dunk and what he. Did Austin. RIVERS
i brought up the point. Yesterday Austin rivers spent one
(34:21):
year At duke and ended up hitting a huge game
winner Against North carolina and they're still talking About Austin
rivers game winner to this day. Moments that's the stuff
that you. Appreciate, yeah the journey to the destination Something
cavino And RICH i, know have talked about a lot
on the. Show it is the it is the real,
Deal like it's that, Journey like The commander's got blown
out in THE Nfc championship, game And i've said THAT
i think that their their season was smoking. Mirrors but
(34:45):
man for everything to turn up gold for, Them.
Speaker 4 (34:48):
Yes especially run that last couple of years and like the.
Speaker 3 (34:51):
History, yeah what an absolute run you. THINK i, mean
The commander is now making moves today and free, agency
you're hoping to build off of. It BUT i don't
know if there's going to be anything that tops the
run that they went through this past. Season. Yeah the, Field,
yeah if you go to ANOTHER Nfc championship game next,
year it's not gonna be the same as it was
this past.
Speaker 4 (35:08):
Year, absolutely you.
Speaker 3 (35:09):
Need to appreciate. That And i'm glad you appreciated The
kawhi stuff as. Well do you remember where you, were
you said when he hit the shot against The.
Speaker 5 (35:16):
Sixers, YEAH i was At Downtown disney BECAUSE i went To.
DISNEY i had plans to go AND i wanted to
watch the, Game so we went and sat at a
restaurant that's no longer there because they remodeled, everything and
we sat AND i had it on and it went
in AND i was, LIKE i CANNOT i believe.
Speaker 4 (35:32):
THIS i just.
Speaker 5 (35:34):
Could and at that POINT i didn't care, about you,
Know kawhi the WAY i hear about him.
Speaker 4 (35:38):
Now but it was so. Awesome it Was i'll never forget.
IT i was literally and everybody just. Stopped it was
silent for.
Speaker 5 (35:45):
Again it felt LIKE i could tell you my life
story while that ball bounced up and down and everybody
was just. Silent and when it went in here In
la there wasn't necessarily cheers because nobody was going For,
toronto but everybody.
Speaker 4 (35:58):
Was, like, damn what a.
Speaker 5 (36:00):
Shot he was even, down he even went down on
the floor like that's.
Speaker 4 (36:03):
All that's how much time he. Had Kawhi leonard in not.
Shot it was. Nuts it was.
Speaker 8 (36:08):
Nuts Jason, STEWART i Think i've been to that restaurant Downtown.
Disney was it the one that overcharges you for alcoholic
drinks all of them all?
Speaker 3 (36:16):
Over? Oh, okay that?
Speaker 6 (36:17):
One that.
Speaker 8 (36:17):
ONE i will say this about this, conversation just to
button it. Up there's a there's a different conversation had
on local radio for the exact reasons you guys are pointing.
OUT i think that the national, radio national podcast and
all this. STUFF i think we just we take this
almost like this like cynical angle because IT'S i guess more.
(36:37):
Interesting BUT i think there's more celebratory talk going on
in local. Stations maybe maybe the major cities are a
little bit more, cynical but if you talk about Your
wisconsin cities and, WHATNOT i think there's a little bit
more appreciation nation that goes on on our network of.
Stations would you agree you.
Speaker 2 (36:55):
Might be On you might be, right maybe, Yes AND
i think THAT i also think like in the terms
of when you're talking about, broadcasting like broad it's part
of the, word AND i think SOMETIMES tv networks get
guilty of this as, well where you're trying to how
many people can we hit with?
Speaker 3 (37:11):
This so talking about who's going to be in line
for AN nba championship for the nineteenth straight, week the
nineteenth straight day feels like it includes everybody, Where like
if we're sitting here talking like honestly we did the first,
segment we're talking about Jetson seahawks and the moves they.
Made there's a point where we think we're talking about free.
Agency really we're talking about two teams and two. Players
(37:33):
but if you're, saying, well this team sets them up
for a Super, bowl it's a bigger sort of. Thing
BUT i feel like there's the stories within the. Stories
so In Alabama, auburn To jason's, point in those local,
markets it really hits because of what the game meant
and what it could. MEAN i actually even think it
means more for history and how we look past that
and what that shot. Means but on a national, scale
(37:57):
Does alabama Beating auburn really change any?
Speaker 6 (38:00):
Thing?
Speaker 3 (38:00):
Like is it really different If auburn's not the number
one overall seed and maybe drop down to the second overall.
Seed that doesn't change anything for you and? Me, no it,
Doesn't and SO i think maybe we end up being
guilty of. THAT i will say, this and then we
got some breaking news to get to The Kawhi leonard.
SHOT i was out golfing last. Night, OKAY i don't
(38:22):
golf at ten, OCIME i don't. KNOW i don't know
what you do against The. Sixers AND i was watching
it because The bucks were going to be in The
Eastern conference, finals right And i'm watching it the stats
BECAUSE i didn't have the thing, up AND i REMEMBER
i was it was between the fourth and fifth, hole
and it took forever for it to.
Speaker 4 (38:38):
Update, yes and you're, like what is? Habit?
Speaker 3 (38:40):
Yeah what is going? On and THEN i saw the
raptors one and you know WHAT i? SAID i did
not want to face the, sixers.
Speaker 4 (38:48):
Damn and then you regretted that.
Speaker 3 (38:49):
Rule box are up too. Old then lost four in
a row and it was. Over so, yeah be careful
what you wish.
Speaker 8 (38:54):
For.
Speaker 6 (38:54):
Yeah Fox Sports radio has the best sports talk lineup

Speaker 6 (39:32):
Is?
Speaker 4 (39:32):
Uh the song is.
Speaker 3 (39:34):
Y i thought he was playing it for. Me, no
by Don, omar here we.
Speaker 4 (39:42):
Go can't.
Speaker 3 (39:45):
AGAIN i can't match.
Speaker 4 (39:47):
That you got me dead is the name of the.
Speaker 3 (39:50):
Song, YES i Told manzi yesterday guys that she will
find any excuse to Put Martin maldonado in the highlight
in our report this. Year, yes just as she could
Say Martin maldonado or don or don omar don don
(40:11):
don Don Omar Omar, right that's what it, Was omar donamar.
Speaker 4 (40:17):
Mar that is? It oh so? Good that's a great.
Speaker 3 (40:21):
Song college basketball is regular season over Don. Finito now
in conference. Tournaments conference tournament, times some haven't beg begun.
Yet otherwise everybody else has already been. In uh maybe
some have already punched their ticket lips come yesterday in
the sun high.
Speaker 4 (40:39):
Point for the first time. Ever it must be so,
EXCITED i say.
Speaker 3 (40:43):
Ui On, Saturday omaha ended up winning The Summit, league
even though they are automatically in a lot of great
stuff with college. Basketball we're gonna get to what the weekend,
was and we're gonna call it appreciation. Weekend that comes
in about thirty minutes or. So but there was something
that happened. Yesterday That manzi just really rubbed me and
(41:04):
rubbed so many the wrong. Way. Yeah Michigan state has
a tradition for their final home game of the regular
season where the seniors are called off the floor for
the last time and they get an ovation and they
go and they kiss the spartan that's at mid court
and then walk off the court with a big hug
(41:28):
From Tom izzo and a huge. Applause but for some,
reason Two michigan players had no interest in going along
and allowing these players to celebrate the school's long honored
tradition by standing on The Michigan state LOGO. Lj cason
(41:49):
And Fat. Brooks is that, Correct Fat Fat? Brooks AM
i saying it. Correctly we're standing at mid court while
these peremonies and this tradition was trying to be carried.
Out it was at that point That Michigan state players
started to take an exception to what was going, on
(42:12):
and then a skirmish ended up, happening And michigan head
Coach Dusty may defended his team in a way at
the end of the game by claiming. Ignorance this Is Dusty.
Speaker 9 (42:26):
MAY i didn't know there was a tradition where they're
shooting free throw and we have guys stand in half.
Court that there's not a tradition that we can't stand
a half court as the game's going. On So i'm
not familiar with that. One is that a? Tradition oh, yeah,
YEAH i have no problem with. That and obviously it
took longer than any ten f two time out. Monitors you,
know whatever the, case it took a, While but we're
fine with. That they've earned the right for. That the
(42:47):
seniors have poured their hearts out as far as whatever.
HAPPENED i are we not? Aware are we not allowed
to stand a half? Court why they're shooting free?
Speaker 6 (42:55):
Throw is?
Speaker 2 (42:55):
That?
Speaker 3 (42:55):
What?
Speaker 9 (42:56):
Oh? Yah? Okay so, yeah so he walked up and did.
IT i, mean, look they earned a right to rub
our noses in. It it is what it. Is we
have to play, better we have to get, tougher and so,
yeah we got compete for another.
Speaker 3 (43:07):
Championship whiny little you know.
Speaker 4 (43:09):
WHAT i hadn't heard.
Speaker 5 (43:11):
That, absolutely what are you talking about? This you know
exactly what this moment. Is this is not your two
players just standing at half court for no. Reason this
is the last game of the. Season you also, lost
and not by a little. Bit by the viny score
That i'm looking at, here it seems like You wolverine's
got your butt kind of spanked a little.
Speaker 4 (43:30):
BIT i am all on the side of The spartans
here one you.
Speaker 5 (43:35):
Lost and to say that you didn't know this tradition was,
happening mega Cap.
Speaker 3 (43:40):
No, No, dusty make it. SAY i am in my
first year At. MICHIGAN i haven't played At Michigan. State
we haven't played at the end of the. YEAR i don't.
Know this tradition just came over FROM. Fau that's. Fine
the two players on this team knew the, tradition, yes
because they stood at mid court for that, absolutely that's
That's that's exactly. Why so you can plead ignorance all
you and then if you want to double down with
(44:02):
the we can't stand at mid. Court here's the, Thing,
monty AND i agree with, you BUT i actually come
from a completely different angle on this because when was
the last Time michigan at the midpoint of a playing
surface got into some. Controversy it was In november when
they Beat Ohio state And College football and planted The
michigan flag on the blocko that is at midfield At Ohio,
(44:25):
stadium And Ohio state players took exception to that pepper
spray needed to be. Used it was a Big it
was a big deal at the. Time now granted may
of Field Ohio state to go win a national, championship
but at that, point feathers were, ruffled to say the.
Least and so you have the discussion of does a
team have the right to plant their flag on a
(44:48):
visiting opponent's. PROPERTY i think that that can be. Disrespectful
michigan at that point did have, scoreboard and it's one
of the points of if you don't like, it beat.
US i get. That that's not what yesterday was. About
yesterday was not about you have, scoreboard beat. Us what
it's about is your seniors having the four years or five,
(45:12):
years however long they were in the program to be
honored and represent them in front of the home fans
as a college basketball, player not even just as A
Michigan state. Spartan and that's WHY i have such a
problem with The michigan players doing. It it had nothing
to do with, them nothing to do with. Them they
(45:33):
weren't Disrespecting michigan by the, way it's not a tradition
in The Big ten For michigan And Michigan state to
play on the last game of the season at The Breslin.
Center that is not a. Tradition Ohio state's played there,
before other schools have played there and have allowed this
tradition to. Continue for some, Reason michigan feels that they're
bigger than anything else and feel that they're the ones
(45:54):
being disrespected when guess, what and some people in life
need to hear. This it's not about.
Speaker 5 (46:01):
You, yeah, yes it's you, know if the story was
that The wolverines, won maybe it, changes, Right it's like
you should have defended your.
Speaker 3 (46:10):
Court, yes maybe.
Speaker 5 (46:11):
Maybe but the fact that that's not even what's happening,
here it's sore loser mentality at the worst possible.
Speaker 3 (46:19):
Time there's also a point of it that manci OF
i feel like the, players there's like, this there's this
unspoken bond by. PLAYERS i feel that that should be. There,
yeah win or lose in regard to guess what this
guy just gave is four years or five years to the,
(46:40):
university just Like i'm doing to my. School and when
it's my day to be a senior day DO i
want somebody standing on my block am At Chrystler arena
When i'm gonna say goodbye to the. Fans, NO i.
DON'T i just the dusty may portion of what we
can't stand at mid. Court guess what this.
Speaker 4 (46:56):
Is that's not what this. Is stop acting.
Speaker 3 (46:58):
Stupid and you know, What, yeah you can't at that. Point,
yeah right out of the. Picture, again it's not about, you.
Speaker 4 (47:05):
Not about, you and that's not what we're talking.
Speaker 5 (47:07):
About stop trying to get technical right now and throwing
the rules at the reporters because that's not what's going.
Speaker 4 (47:13):
On and you acting stupid doesn't make it any.
Speaker 5 (47:16):
Better and you're right because he could have just SAID
i was unaware of this. TRADITION i don't think MY
fello has handled it, right but you, Know i'll talk to.
Speaker 4 (47:24):
Them and that's.
Speaker 3 (47:24):
It, yes absolutely, none one hundred. Percent in this day
and age of college basketball as, well when people are moving, here,
there and, everywhere and you have seniors and some that
have been in the program the whole, time allow them
to get there their. Flowers, NO i don't know how
many seniors were on The Michigan state roster to do,
that BUT i can tell you. THIS i Followed Big
ten basketball for a long time AND i remember all
(47:45):
of These Michigan state players doing. It saw a video
Of Cassius winston doing it years, back one of the
most Popular Michigan state players. Ever, like this is a
this is a big, deal but it had nothing to
do With michigan at that point until they made it about.
Speaker 5 (47:57):
THEMSELVES i read that it was like a twenty year,
addition like this isn't this isn't, new and like you,
said it's.
Speaker 4 (48:02):
Not this is like the, least it's not about, you.
Speaker 5 (48:06):
And there's no disrespect involved at, all because even if
The spartans would have, lost the senior still probably wanted
to do, yes but they, won and it's like the
game is, over like there's come on and u oh no.
Oh IF i was A, spartan, OH i would have
been out there, throwing, swinging throwing.
Speaker 3 (48:23):
Punches Chris purfett don't throw any, punches BUT i would
have been, no no punches for.
Speaker 1 (48:29):
ME i do wonder how much a little bit this
is On michigan Versus Michigan state as the, rivalry because
like being from that, area it's big, brother little, brother
and that's true of them for, football but it's always
been a lot, closer if not an, edge To Michigan
state in. Basketball this feels like a concerted amount of
disrespect to once again say, like, no you're not bigger than.
(48:51):
Us We're, Michigan we're The university Of. Michigan you're the
state school that other people can't get. Into like there's
this arrogance always Of, michigan but it's always been closer
in basketball than say, football and this is the one
place Where sparty can rub their nose back in.
Speaker 3 (49:07):
IT i think that there's some truth to, That like
if they're Playing Penn, STATE i don't Think Penn state
players are standing on that. LOGO i think that that
rivalry in what it means at that. Point but that
is also then the wherewithal of it's not about, you,
right it's not this isn't this isn't part of the.
Rivalry this is about playing four or five years at a,
(49:27):
school or playing your senior season at a school and
for the last, time playing in front of the. Fans
michigan had their opportunity at their last game to probably
do the same if they wanted. To it's their fault
if they didn't honor their players who weren't going to
be returning next. Year Michigan state has done it. Forever
these players knew exactly what was going on and decided
to be jerks about, it and they deserve everything that
came their. Way And Dusty may's, excuse which just got
(49:50):
worse by the, second just does not fly with. ME
i was gonna give them the benefit of the. DOUBT
i really. WAS i read the comments at, first but
then when you hear on, me you're, like get out
of here with that.
Speaker 5 (49:58):
Junk he dug his heels AND i. DON'T i don't
see how you can Defend.
Speaker 4 (50:03):
MICHIGAN i, REALLY i don't see. It how can you
defend the players and THAT i. CAN'T i don't see.
Speaker 9 (50:08):
It
