Speaker 4 (01:26):
With Isaac mentioning the Jah Moran story him getting fined
seventy five grand by the NBA today, it's funny, Manzi
because we're sitting in for Cavino and Rich who were
in for Colin Cowherd on The Herd earlier today. We
encourage you to check out their podcast. Go to Fox
Sports radio dot com. If you're maybe getting out of
work thinking and you're gonna hear the guys, don't worry.
(01:46):
You still can and you can go to Fox Sports
Radio and hear the podcast. Well, we also want you
to hang with us for the next two hours or so.
Why not Yesterday as I was sitting where Isaac Lowancron
was sitting at the news desk and you ended up
following me. Last night we were talking about the Final
four and we're getting things ready for the Final four.
And when I was on the Doug Gottlieb Show with
Doug Gottlieb. I just said to Doug this this talk
(02:09):
of Bruce Pearl and Calvin Samson. They're not bad guys,
they're not bad coaches, but they do have blemishes on
their resume for NCAA infractions. And we look back and
we say too many phone calls or a barbecue here,
and it seems frivolous. But the point remains is if
you knew the rule and you knew you weren't supposed
(02:31):
to do it, it doesn't matter what the actual rule is,
don't break it. So it's not that Calvin Sampson and
Bruce Pearl are bad guys, but if you wanted to
call them rule breakers, I think that would fit. And
now here we are with John Morants. In what a
week it has been, by the way, this is completely
overshadowed how good jaw has been. Because you fired your coach.
(02:56):
You now have a finger gun controversy that was taken
to the level last night in Miami when less than
twenty four hours after he was given a warning to
not do the finger gun gesture, John Morant ends up
doing it in the first quarter in a win against
the Miami Heat. By the way, in a game where
he hits the game winning shot that we're not even talking.
Speaker 5 (03:16):
About, right, I actually forgot about that.
Speaker 4 (03:18):
Yes, you're so right.
Speaker 7 (03:19):
I forgot that he hit the game winner. He didn't
just do it once. He did it again. I saw
it at least twice. And I just want to know why, jaw, like,
why do we do this? Because the eyes are on
you for this particular reason. If another player does it,
I'm sorry, it's not the same. So people are keeping
(03:41):
an eye on you for this, and you get.
Speaker 5 (03:44):
A warning and twenty four twenty four hours later, you
said to hold my beer.
Speaker 4 (03:48):
I watch this. It was Manzi. He hit the game winner.
And you know what he did. He didn't do finger guys,
Yeah he didn't. He didn't pretend to shoot down the
entire Miami Heat bench. He didn't shoot random strays into
the crowd. You know what he did. He got on
his phone and call me. He called game you know,
put a phone gesture up. That is another element of
(04:10):
it where he knows exactly what he is doing. And
I know that there's a conversation, and there was a
conversation that happened earlier today in the Dan Patrick Show
that said John Morant has been doing this all season long.
Speaker 7 (04:22):
Maybe he has and we just haven't seen it because
the games aren't nationally televised.
Speaker 4 (04:25):
Correct, But on the week of the beginning of the
first week of April, he was told by the NBA,
all right, let's end it. This is it ends now.
If it's gone on for the rest of the season,
that's fine. If it's something where the NBA is saying,
all right, they're going to be in the playoffs. This
is a team that we could see on national TV
(04:45):
a bunch, we don't necessarily want that look going on.
I get it from that perspective. Maybe doesn't Maybe they
should have done something with it sooner. But I'm not
going to sit there and jump all over the NBA
about it. I just can't believe that John would do
it and do it so quickly. MANCI like, just it
because it's in defiance. Yes, it's not that I forgot.
It's he's sending a message to Adam Silver in the
(05:08):
NBA saying that you could find me whatever you want.
I'm not gonna change my ways, right.
Speaker 7 (05:12):
And it's just awkward for Adam Silver, right, I mean,
we all already think that Adam Silver kind of.
Speaker 5 (05:18):
Gets walked all over by the players. They run this league.
He doesn't.
Speaker 7 (05:22):
Nobody is scared of him, and John doing this is
daring him to do something beyond finding him seventy five
thousand dollars.
Speaker 5 (05:30):
That's nothing.
Speaker 7 (05:31):
John doesn't care about that, And I honestly, I'm just waiting.
People are gonna tune into the next Grizzlies game to
see if he does it again, and then they're gonna say, Okay,
what is Adam Silver gonna do here? And Adam Silver
is gonna be put in a position that's gonna make
it more. You've already been suspended, so then what's the
next step another suspension going into the playoffs. The Grizzlies
are right now, what six spots. It's a tight race
(05:53):
in the Western car It's a very tight race. They
can move up and down, and this is this last week.
But it's like, why, Joe, why are you doing this?
You know, in a week where I've heard Rob.
Speaker 5 (06:04):
Parker say that Zion Williamson.
Speaker 7 (06:06):
Is a bust, I'm like, Jaw, You're a bust at
this point because I don't know how long your career
is going to go.
Speaker 4 (06:12):
That's the thing that is frustrating is because there are injuries.
There are no doubt that there are injuries that you
look at with John and you say, Okay, I hope
he can stay healthy, just like there is with Zion Williamson,
of course. But I would think that Jaws had the better,
you know, like there's there's something there when he comes
back and he's playing for the team, when he's not
suspended for his silly actions, or if he's not injured
(06:34):
like he is, He's been really good. Zion's been really
good too. But I just think that there's there's something there.
There's something more with John Morant, and I don't know
if he's I don't know if if if he wants
out of Memphis, because this would be the wrong way
to go about it. In my mind. If you want
to if you wanted to move on, if you wanted
(06:55):
to go somewhere else to do finger guns, Memphis is
the perfect spot because maybe you're winning and we aren't
always talking about you or aren't always seeing you. But
if you were to do this as a Laker or
as a Golden State Warrior like last night on TNT, yeah,
it's just not flying, and it has to be. It
(07:15):
just has to be this bit of defiance. I don't
know if this is also a separation of Now Adam
Silver and at least this particular player are separating in
a way, because we've always felt that Adam Silver, the commissioner,
was on the side of the players and going back.
I don't know if this is a sign that maybe
that's fractured. But there is just something weird with the
(07:37):
defiance of John Morant to do it immediately, almost to
say immediately, I threaten you, or I dare you. I
dare you. Adam Silver and Joe Dumars and everyone in
the NBA front.
Speaker 5 (07:49):
Office, So what next?
Speaker 7 (07:51):
You've been suspended and you've been fined, And it doesn't
seem like he wants out of Memphis.
Speaker 5 (07:56):
He seems like he loves Memphis right like that.
Speaker 7 (07:58):
There's never been an indication as from why are you
literally doing what you're not supposed to be doing. You're
you're being told to stop doing this multiple times, and
it comes off very immature, very childish, and it's just
kind of like, I don't I don't know how long
it's gonna fly for how long you can let that
fly for.
Speaker 4 (08:19):
I think it flies longer. I because here's here's the
deal is. This is I think we're in a different
climate than we were a few years ago, and I
think that we look at it and be like, okay,
all right, what's the what's the deal with the finger guns? Right?
I mean it's to suspend someone. I mean, we had
(08:41):
a brawl less than a week ago between the Timberwolves
and Pistons, Yes, we did, and we had a two
game suspension for Isaiah Stewart and everybody else got a
one game. How are you going to ban finger guns
or you don't penalize him when the most you gave
on that situation of players fighting each other is two games.
Speaker 7 (09:01):
Well, obviously, but there's a history of him being on
Instagram live with It's it's it's not as black and white,
you know. It's like there's a history here, give it.
That's what I'm saying. Like somebody else could do the
finger pointing, the gesture. It's not gonna hold the same
weight if he does it. And it's like it's he
there's no way he doesn't know that. That's how it's like,
you're being so defiant, so childish. But it's like there's
(09:25):
a lot of this is your career and there's so
much money and you could have years at this and
to risk it, I don't get it. To risk your
career being cut short over what being funny, over being
defiant over a couple of people telling you just to
you didn't do anything.
Speaker 5 (09:41):
You know, like, I don't get it.
Speaker 7 (09:43):
You have you could be doing this for the next
ten years, but if you keep this up, I don't
see that happening, and then you're gonna be a footnote
when it comes to you know, this draft class, like
we're gonna be talking still about Zion's injuries and Tyler
Hero with Miami Heat instead of you.
Speaker 4 (09:58):
I think I get where you're coming from. Where Okay,
the fine didn't work, you're gonna do finger guns again.
Now we're gonna suspend you, do finger games finger guns again.
We're gonna suspend you even more. And I don't think
that the NBA wants to do that.
Speaker 5 (10:16):
I don't think so.
Speaker 4 (10:17):
I don't think that they will do that. And there's
gonna be at some point some argument with the union.
But it goes back to the fact of how childish
is this Where to your point, why are you risking
all of this to be able to pretend to shoot
(10:37):
finger guns and yeah, this is, by the way, the
Guinness Book of World Records world record for most time
finger guns is said in a twelve minute span. I
felt like I've said it nineteen.
Speaker 7 (10:48):
Times, Manzi we have We're not done either, But how how.
Speaker 4 (10:52):
Like think about this? Ja Morant unavailable for game four
Games one through.
Speaker 5 (10:58):
Four because of gunpoint.
Speaker 4 (11:00):
His finger guns likes it sounds absurd, it sounds ridiculous,
and I think that's what Ja's playing off of of Like,
all right, I daaria, daia. The NBA in trying to
suspend me for this. What what I what I just
don't understand is because it's like I tell my three
year old son, it's pick up your toys. Pick up
(11:24):
your toys. Pick up your toys. Why are there five
more toys out than there were five minutes ago? Pick
up your toys. You have to go to bed, pick
up your toys. I don't want more, Dinad, and immediately
just in my face, blatantly pulling them out of the
toy chest. He's he's basically funning me, shooting me down
(11:49):
in my discipline. And that's what I feel that John
Morant is doing. It's I don't want to compare him
to a three year old, but it is immature actions,
immature act and that's where and that's the part that
I just can't get off of. It's it's ridiculous, it's absurd,
it's a big fine, it's the whole deal. But at
what point are you just like, all right, I gotta
(12:11):
grow up a little bit. I'm twenty five years old,
I've been in the league long enough, I've got a
huge contract. I'm I'm a young star. This is gonna
hurt me more than it's gonna help me.
Speaker 7 (12:21):
And you know, at one point, Jahn Morant really had
the opportunity to possibly be the next face of the league.
Speaker 5 (12:27):
He really did. He had explosive skill out on the court.
Speaker 7 (12:31):
Even though remember that one time he was like I'm
not gonna dunk anymore because of injury. Everybody got real
sad like he had the potential to actually be one
of the faces of the NBA. And I feel like
his career has taken has not taken a step back,
but is being like held back because of all of
these actions and the timing of it. It's just the
(12:52):
time you get a warning and then the next opportunity.
Speaker 5 (12:56):
You do it again. Yes, it is like your three
year old son.
Speaker 4 (13:00):
It's it's it's absurd. I would have to imagine if
I'm a police officer and I pull someone over for
speeding and then.
Speaker 5 (13:08):
You give them a ticket.
Speaker 4 (13:09):
Yeah, I give him a ticket, they leave, I file
the ticket, and then two miles later, another cop has
pulled them over like you would. You would be the same.
It's the same thing of like, what are you doing?
How do you not get the message? Now? Unless that
person is I dare to get two tickets from the
same department.
Speaker 5 (13:27):
I can do one hour.
Speaker 4 (13:28):
But man, it's sure, it sure feels like it's a
it's a game for job morant. At some point it's
not going to be funny. But I I just don't
think that the NBA can really do anything in this
whole situation because suspending him seven games, including playoff games
because of Bang bang like it like, it's it's stupid,
it's silly.
Speaker 7 (13:46):
You're right, the NBA can't do anything, but they have
to write.
Speaker 5 (13:50):
Just because they can't doesn't mean they're not going to.
Speaker 7 (13:52):
And I feel like that's the tough position that Adam
Silver is being put in.
Speaker 5 (13:56):
Because he is daring him, but there there has to
be something.
Speaker 7 (14:00):
We can't keep going back and forth with a warning
and a fine and one game suspension like that's that's
just a joke and it'll make Adam Silver look even
more like he has no spine.
Speaker 4 (14:10):
Jason Stewart's our executive producer.
Speaker 8 (14:12):
Yeah, I agree with Mansy. I think that you're not
really punishing him for our finger guns at this point.
You're you're punishing him for what's the what's the word,
not misbehaving or being belligerent or insubordinate. I guess that's forrigible.
It's multiple things. And now you're mocking him. It's like,
uh so you take your brody example. You also hear
(14:35):
this in the airport from others. It's like, you do
that one more time, and you're in trouble, mister, and
then time out and and and then at the kid
does something just brazen and cocky because he doesn't care
about the deterrent.
Speaker 4 (14:50):
Manzi, you don't have children. Iowa was saying, you don't
have children, Isaac, Jason and I do. And you don't
know the pressure of saying what Jason says in public
and then having your bluff called Oh, I've seen it
with my friends and my brother, but you don't know
the pressure of what is going through your mind of all, right,
(15:11):
now he's making me payout. I have to either pay off,
pay this off. And you know, I'm not gonna I'm
not gonna make a scene in public. But I can't
just let him get away with it and walk over
me and let everybody in groups you know, three, four
and five be laughing at me because I can't keep
my son in place, and then they're wondering what's gonna
(15:31):
happen on this flight. There is so much pressure in
trying to get it right. So if that's what Adam
Silver and Joe Dumars are feeling right now, their Friday sucks.
Speaker 5 (15:40):
Yes, and their weekend is gonna suck.
Speaker 4 (15:42):
Nice.
Speaker 5 (15:43):
It's true.
Speaker 7 (15:43):
I mean, I love this, this example of kids because
you see, I don't have it, but I see it
in public when somebody does try to be stern with
their kids and the kid is, you know, smiling and
smirking and they're about to do something, and you do
have to stand your ground as the parent. Adam Silver,
I don't see you having any other option but standing
(16:05):
your ground as the parent I just don't know what
the next step is.
Speaker 4 (16:10):
Bigger fine, a bigger fine.
Speaker 5 (16:13):
No, it's got to be like, yeah, what is it.
Speaker 4 (16:17):
Fine?
Speaker 7 (16:18):
You're going into the playoffs a one game suspension for
the first game of the playoffs, and that seems like
people aren't gonna be happy about that.
Speaker 4 (16:27):
No. I no, not at all. And they're right now
sitting there in the right at the borderline, right at
the cost of the playing tournament right.
Speaker 5 (16:34):
No, listen, it would help the Clippers.
Speaker 4 (16:36):
It's and again it's it's not the actual action, as
you said, and as Jason said, and it's why you
pointed out with the Calvin Samson and Bruce Pearl examples
of we look back at those things and be like, yeah,
it's stupid. No, the real portion is, especially in Calvin
Sampson situation, was he was told you can't do this again.
This is actually why you got fired from your old job.
(16:56):
We're giving you a second chance at this new job.
But there is no strike two or three. There's a
strike one, and strike one you're out. And that's what happened.
And he did it again, and so then you're like, well,
I don't have any empathy or sympathy for you exactly
because he knew the rules and you knew what was
going on, but you still chose to do it. And
that's where John Moran comes. I don't know who he's
(17:17):
doing it for, Like who was like, you know, I
didn't really care about the Grizzlies and then he started
pretend shooting that gun like after he like like what,
Like I just I don't understand it.
Speaker 7 (17:27):
And the Grizzlies like I you know, as a Clipper fan,
there were years where the Grizzlies were are they were
our main competition, and they were tough, you know, Zach
Randolph like, they were a tough Tony Tony Allen, a tough,
gritty team. And so it's like the Grizzlies don't need
you to pretend to be a tough guy. The Grizzlies
have a history of real time exactly, like you don't
(17:50):
need to do this.
Speaker 5 (17:52):
It makes no sense.
Speaker 8 (17:54):
It feels like it's a small group of people, maybe
including his father, that he's trying to impress. I'm going
to stay on my ground. It's kind of like when
I hear like those people with their mufflers off, like
going down the highway, and I'm like who's being served
by this. His buddies that are like, dude, that's super coolies. Yeah,
(18:15):
And that's the only people he's trying to impress right
now is that small group.
Speaker 7 (18:20):
Which is sad because what was the advice when this
first came out. It's like, hey, that close group of people.
You have the second video that came out with him
with the gun again, it was like, separate yourself from
these people. Because if my best friend was a professional athlete,
let me tell you what. The first thing I'm gonna
do is tackle him when he starts doing the gestures
(18:40):
with his fingers and.
Speaker 5 (18:41):
Be like, bro, stop it stop. You have too much
to gain and so much to lose. Stop.
Speaker 4 (18:46):
You know. It's funny because the Gilbert Arenas Javaris Crittendon
Washington Wizard situation over a decade ago, and I've talked
to players who were on that Wizard's team and to
a man and they said, I don't want to talk
about this. We don't want to talk about this because
it then brings everything up for everyone else, brings it
(19:07):
up for Gilbert. And I know Javars Crittin and has
been through other stuff, but like everybody that was involved
like everybody now is everybody got to talk about it again?
They weren't even the ones like directly involved in all
of this. You mentioned John Morant and the gun video.
We have the gun situation with the teenager. We've got
his I forgot about that. At the basketball game, You've
(19:32):
got the laser pointer at.
Speaker 5 (19:33):
The people on the car.
Speaker 2 (19:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (19:36):
Like it's like, I mean, strike strike nine.
Speaker 5 (19:39):
It's like a cat, cat lives. Oh my goodness, how
many does he have left? But I just don't think
he has many.
Speaker 4 (19:45):
I just don't. I don't think that that the NBA
had no pun intended. But they don't really have many
weapons to fight with. I mean, I don't it's I
don't know. They should just fingergun him back. I don't know.
I'm Dad Buyer. Jason Stewart's here. Find I'm at Jason Stewart, Iowa.
Say I'm hanging on on a Friday at Iowa. Sam
Nundon nine and Isaac Low and Crown is at the
news desk.

I hope you're having a great Friday, maybe already starting
the weekend, the weekend of hoops. I told you about
the magic of April. I told you about this.
Speaker 5 (20:27):
I think you have all.
Speaker 4 (20:28):
You share it all within my sports calendar. Yes, but
sports fans may or may not know this. April is
packed with greatness. First weekend Final Four, next weekend Masters,
next weekend start of the NBA Playoffs, next weekend NFL Draft.
After that, you're in the May. It's crazy.
Speaker 5 (20:50):
It's gonna go by in the blink of an eye.
Speaker 4 (20:52):
April swear it's at Monci.
Speaker 5 (20:53):
Wow.

Speaker 5 (21:05):
Tyrek dot com the way tirebuying should be What in April?
Speaker 4 (21:08):
I mentioned the Final Four as part of that great
April run. And on Monday night, one team will cut
down the nets as national champions. But that doesn't mean
that the other three teams are losers, not at all.
Maybe on that Monday night there will be one team
that wishes they were cutting down the nets. But as
time goes on, you'll be looked at as the team
that went to the Final four, and that is good
(21:30):
enough in college basketball. It's yeah, you'd love to win championships.
I think your point of how we look at greatness,
like when we judge coaches. I think that there is
something to the fact of the randomness of the one
game scenario. Anything can happen. But I do think like
for someone like tom Izo who's been to so many
(21:51):
final fours and only has the one championship, where you're
kind of looking back, and not to discredit tom Izo,
but you're like, man, shouldn't you have like two or three?
You know, Bob I won three championships. We remember Jim
Bayham and Syracuse going so many times in getting close
and then finally breaking through in two thousand and three.
Because his happened later in his career, maybe we didn't
look at him needing more. But I feel maybe we
(22:14):
unfairly treat tom Izzo in that way. But still, you
talk about Michigan State, they are a premier program in
the country and it's because of all of their trips
to the Final four.
Speaker 7 (22:23):
Yeah, I actually agree with what you said after you
mentioned marketing.
Speaker 4 (22:26):
It's a love festival it is.
Speaker 7 (22:28):
Because I'm like, you're right, Why does final four sound
so much better than saying the semifinals like semi finals,
you're just gonna go. It's the semi finals, final four,
It's like all the you won.
Speaker 4 (22:40):
Your region, Yes, it to the to the final stage.
So we wanted to hear from you out there, whether
it be on X or Blue Sky or via the
phones where Matt is joining us from Alaska. Matt, welcome
into Cavino and Rich, how you doing on this Friday?
Speaker 6 (22:55):
Hey Matt doing well? Hey how are you guys today?
Speaker 4 (22:58):
Awesome?
Speaker 6 (22:59):
Chilling, awesome. I think in the world of sports, maybe
being a big golfer, uh, if you are a US
amateur and you play up through your local ranks and
actually make it to play in the US Open itself
and you even make the cut, I think that is yes, incredible.
But think about the ones that in the last couple
of years. Was that a couple of guys finishing like
the top twenty, I think one of them finished in
(23:20):
the top ten. That has got to be a moment
in life that of year, like, well, I wish I
would have won, but this is good?
Speaker 4 (23:25):
Yeah, yeah, absolutely, And and on that level, Matt, great recommendation. Yeah,
thanks Maan Golf. When you when you're a US amateur
and you play in the US Amateur tournament, the final
two get automatic bids to the Masters if you make it, Yeah,
that's it. That's the point, Like, like you may lose
the final match and not be US Amateur champion. The
consolation prize is you're teeing it up in Augusta in
(23:48):
eight months. Like that's that's the that's the awesome and
nine months that's that's the awesome part of it. It's yeah,
you maybe didn't win, but your get to go to Augusta.
To his point, if you make it through local qualifying
and then sectional qualifying to be able to play and
see it up in the same tournament as Scotti, Scheffler
and Rory Macroy. Pretty cool, I know, Matt.
Speaker 5 (24:07):
You got Dan really excited with Alan. Great suggest I
love it and I understand.
Speaker 7 (24:12):
Yeah, just getting to the Masters, like when you are
not supposed to be there, when you are not.
Speaker 5 (24:17):
One of those guys that we all know their names. Yes,
that must be such a good feeling.
Speaker 4 (24:21):
Let's go to Jake in Indiana. Great, who's your state, Jake?
Welcome to the Cavino and Rich.
Speaker 9 (24:26):
Hey Jake, Hey guys, Dan, you've forgot NHL playoffs as well,
my friend. But what comes to mind for sports is
got to be like the G League players and like
the Triple A guys that are on the fringe of.
Speaker 6 (24:42):
Getting and then sometimes.
Speaker 9 (24:43):
Get called up and then they're back down, but then
they get called up. And if you're like a lifelong
Triple A player and you got to play the sport
you love for your career and made pretty good money,
I think I think you can hang your hat on that.
Speaker 10 (24:57):
That's my take.
Speaker 9 (24:58):
Thanks, guys, appreciate you.
Speaker 4 (24:59):
Yeah, thanks Jake. I love that.
Speaker 7 (25:01):
I do too, Like baseball is such a hard sport,
and I can't imagine dealing with Triple A with years
and years and years and maybe you get a game
more two in the majors.
Speaker 5 (25:12):
But that's a great point.
Speaker 7 (25:14):
If you can make a living out of playing your
favorite sport in Triple A for years, I think that's
good enough.
Speaker 4 (25:20):
Those September call ups to have that. There's when you
see just in late game situations, when you put like
reserves in for the NCAA tournament, I always want the
reserve to do something so they so there's a.
Speaker 5 (25:34):
Stat so their name is out there.
Speaker 4 (25:36):
Yeah. Yeah, it doesn't matter if it's over one field goal,
if they get a rebound or an assist, But to
have a stat just instead of just being into the
game and it says one minute played for that person,
like I would, I would want a stat. We've had
that in in the NBA. I remember there was a
guy who played for the Lakers, and I'm completely blanking
on his name, but it's you know, spent thirteen years
(25:57):
and trying to get to the league and then finally
you finally do it, Like to be able to hang
your jersey with your name on a Lakers jersey that
appeared in the NBA game.
Speaker 7 (26:08):
Yeah, walking into a locker room with your stuff they're
waiting for you.
Speaker 5 (26:11):
Oh yeah, that's gotta be good enough. Absolutely.
Speaker 4 (26:15):
Jason Stewart, our executive producer, I know you have a suggestion,
but do you have the name of the Andre Ingram.
Speaker 8 (26:21):
That's nice, that's what it says on Google. I'm not
going to act like I knew that. I'm pretty good
at googling Iowa Sam. It's it's a rare trait, but
he's not very good at googling. I was listening yesterday.
Speaker 1 (26:32):
If that was necessary googling here, but that's okay.
Speaker 8 (26:38):
But I was listening yesterday and something about Chariots of
Fire came up. Everyone knows the chariots a fire theme.
And Sam comes on air with conviction and says that
the song is called gun No, I think it's called
the Chariots of Fire thing.
Speaker 4 (26:52):
Vangelous is the composer, and Sam his ticket is the title.
He misgogled it, so that wasn't even google.
Speaker 1 (26:59):
That was well speaking on that show, what do you
mean talking about it?
Speaker 4 (27:03):
That was Covin and Rich. You're driving home you heard that? Yes? Yes,
well great in.
Speaker 3 (27:07):
The sky the funny you should mentioned movies. This is
not a sports thing, but from the movie world. What
about Academy Award nominee example, that'll follow you around the
rest of your caron a good way?
Speaker 7 (27:17):
Yes, it does follow It's like two time nominee. Oh yeah,
that's a good one.
Speaker 4 (27:22):
There's also drama to it because I don't know movies,
so I don't know if it's going to be nominee
or winner. Yeah, like so like Academy Award, nominam Academy Award.
How about that by the way someone made a graphic
of Rich Davis and Landline and they didn't tag me
(27:44):
in it, like it was my title of Rich's movie. Okay,
you could have tagged me.
Speaker 5 (27:47):
In, dude, Yes, dude.
Speaker 8 (27:49):
Jason, did you have a suggestion? So I play a
lot of poker. I've been known to play a lot
of tournament poker. So from the highest level of poker
World Series of Poker to my level the low levels,
making the final table is often as prestigious as winning
it because, as everyone knows, when you get to the
final table, it's usually chopped up anyways. So it's like,
(28:10):
and that's why there's an actual verb I tabled. I
tabled in this tournament. Making it to the final nine
or whatever is just as procedures.
Speaker 4 (28:17):
You would probably also protect your stack if you were
to make upsolightly. Yeah, so you could table. You wouldn't
want to put that at risk.
Speaker 5 (28:26):
I got one.
Speaker 7 (28:28):
I do my races. I'm not trying to be the
fastest in my half marathon. Nobody, there's gonna be one
way to live. I'm trying to live, not dying. After
you've been not die and just cross the finish line.
And I feel like anyone who's ever done a race.
When you cross that finish line, you're like, all right.
Speaker 4 (28:46):
That was good enough.
Speaker 5 (28:47):
Give me that metal. I don't care if I'm the
thousandth person. I just crossed this line. That was good enough.
Speaker 4 (28:53):
What about when they have to open the streets because
you're taking so long.
Speaker 7 (28:57):
You're taking that back the cars behind you, and they're
like a good movie because I got to do it
by a certain amount of time.
Speaker 4 (29:04):
Oh good, that's good. That's good. Just finishing is good.
Speaker 5 (29:07):
Just finishing is good enough.
Speaker 4 (29:08):
You mentioned poker, Jason, Let's go to Vegas. Keith is
in Vegas. Keith, you got a nominee. And when good
enough is well good enough, you're on Covino and Rich Jakeith.
Speaker 10 (29:16):
I appreciate you guys taking my call. I've been a
Pirate fan to start Pirates. So nineteen sixty eight, if
they make the playoff, I'm in heaven. I'm in having
I don't care if they win it or not. They
made the playoff, God bless them.
Speaker 3 (29:34):
As Bob Prince would say, they had them all the
way one day.
Speaker 7 (29:39):
I mean I get that, I get that feeling like
just getting to the playoffs when you are a Pirates fan.
Hey you you know at least you got Paul Skins
right now too.
Speaker 5 (29:48):
Yes, that's something.
Speaker 4 (29:49):
It's also the exact and Keith, thanks for the call.
It's also the exact opposite of the Dodgers. Yeah right, A.
Speaker 5 (29:55):
Little bit, little bit, yeah, yeah, like.
Speaker 4 (29:57):
Of life is a Dodger fan. The others side is
what Keith and the Pirates fans are dealing with.
Speaker 7 (30:02):
If the Clippers get to the finals, just I don't
need them to win. If the Clippers just make the finals,
that is good enough.
Speaker 4 (30:10):
I think that that is a good point to make
because when I look at the super Bowl, when I
look at the NFL and I look at this past season,
I picked a Lions Bills super Bowl. But if the
Bills make it to the super Bowl, they have to
win it. Yeah, because their bugaboo, if you will, is
(30:30):
going to the Super Bowl and losing four straight, Whereas
the Lions have never been to the Super Bowl. So
there's different levels with that. So your point of Clippers
making the playoffs, so yeah, they make the playoffs, whatever it,
but going to an NBA finals completely When the Bucks
made the NBA Finals and luckily they ended up winning
it in twenty twenty one, especially after seeing how the
past three seasons have gone. Luckily they won. The buck
(30:55):
was gold, like, so they have your logo be like
NB A final Yes, yes, so cool. And I think
that's the same thing with the Final four of Yeah,
you could get an you know, a Florida SEC Tournament
champion shirt or you know, Auburn champions whatever, blah blah blah.
But to be able to just wear a Final four
(31:16):
shirt with your team on it, huge, huge deal.
Speaker 5 (31:19):
I imagine NBA Finals with clippers on it.
Speaker 4 (31:22):
Great.
Speaker 7 (31:23):
You'd buy so much gear, so much gear, you guys,
you wouldn't everyone would get a shirt because I'd make
you all rep it.
Speaker 4 (31:29):
Dwayne is in Texas, Dwayne, when is good enough? Good enough?
What do you got hey, Dwayne?
Speaker 6 (31:35):
Yeah?
Speaker 11 (31:36):
It's it's unfortunate that the Super Bowl teams the one
that lose doesn't get recognized as well. Because take a
look at fud Grant. Dan you might you know, remember
from Wisconsin and min Sam as well, But if he
wins three of those, she's Andy Reid. He's uh, you
(31:56):
know all these other ones that have went multiple but
you know, he just never got that recognition. The Vikings
I think on the football.
Speaker 4 (32:02):
Side of it, winning just winning one, just even like
I know, like three is a lot to ask of
the four that the Vikings lost. But even if Bud
Grantch just won one, are we look at him differently?
East was beloved in Minnesota, absolutely no doubt about it.
Your best Vikings coach of all time. That'll that'll never change.
But if you just would have gotten one, his name
(32:25):
and conversations of other coaches in the NFL compared to them,
same thing. Marv Levy could be the same way. I mean,
just of Marv Levy, great great coach, but you don't
have the Super Bowl to back it up. I think
it's there's amazing different ways to do it. I was
gonna bring on one. I don't know if it's if
(32:46):
it's fair or not.
Speaker 5 (32:47):
Which one.
Speaker 4 (32:49):
How about getting your license, like you don't have to
get like I passed my driver's licensed tests granted again
he mentioned on from Wisconsin. My birthdays in January, so
I had to take my test on January roads in Wisconsin,
and I passed. I passed by two points. I passed first.
(33:10):
I didn't have to take it again or anything. That
was good enough and guess what I drove out by
myself that day, or or at least Mom was writing
shotgun because you had to take me to it. I
couldn't just pull up by myself. That would have been odd.
But the point being of you don't need to ace
your driver's test, you just need just pass fail, which.
Speaker 7 (33:30):
Is and that's what as to why people suck at driving, well,
we probably should be a little We probably should be
a little.
Speaker 5 (33:35):
Better on that.
Speaker 4 (33:36):
I don't even know if people have licenses, you know,
sometimes with how they I don't think.
Speaker 1 (33:40):
How's it fair though, to make you take a driving
test when it's like wintery roads out like, yeah, that's
like extra extra testing of your skills.
Speaker 4 (33:47):
You would think, But then you realize that, yeah, you
have to drive in it every day so your models
will test in it. So that's that's why it makes sense.
Speaker 5 (33:54):
That's true.
Speaker 4 (33:55):
But I don't know if it doesn't fit. It's more
of the past fail sort of, I think, yeah, but
it works.
Speaker 5 (34:01):
Yeah. Oh then in college, right, just passing your class.
Speaker 4 (34:04):
And then I sold t shirts that you know that
said past driving test, just like a final four on
it as well.
Speaker 5 (34:10):
It was a gold trim, I'll.
Speaker 4 (34:13):
Tell you what like that. If you get your license,
it's like now when you renew it and you got
to get your picture.
Speaker 5 (34:20):
Oh, I just did that.
Speaker 4 (34:21):
You're more cognizant of maybe like what you're wearing or
going to wear, and how you're going to look. But
I don't think when you're sixteen years old, you don't
put that into account. And then if you do get
the call, it's picture time and that crappy shirt you
wore is going to be with you for the next
six years.
Speaker 7 (34:38):
I didn't get my driver's license until I turned eighteen,
and I didn't even want it.
Speaker 5 (34:41):
My mom forced it. I just wanted to stop driving
me around.
Speaker 7 (34:45):
I went in volleyball practice clothes and my hair was
like up in a braid to the side, like eighties.
That was my picture up until recently that they made
me change it because they were like, you look eighteen,
and I'm like I was.
Speaker 4 (34:57):
Have I told you my theory on driver's license pictures,
Just like in sports for graphics, I think you should
take a smiling one and a frowning one, So if
something bad happens because of you, you have the frown.
But if something bad happens to you, at least you
have a smiling picture on it.
Speaker 7 (35:14):
We can make it where like if you move it,
you see both sides of it, Like you.
Speaker 5 (35:18):
Know that, what is like a like a hologra? No,
like hologram? Okay, yeah, where you put both of the
pictures on your license and you can move it and
see both of them.
Speaker 4 (35:26):
I just want them on file.
Speaker 5 (35:27):
No, I just want it on my license now.
Speaker 4 (35:29):
Mark tweets in in competition barbecue World, I now have
a craving for ribs. There is a grand Champion and
reserve Grand Champion. The reserve is really cool against great competition.
Speaker 5 (35:43):
Like that's good enough.
Speaker 4 (35:44):
Yeah made hey second, yeah, second best out of two
hundred competition grillers. I get it.
Speaker 5 (35:52):
I get that.
Speaker 4 (35:52):
Yeah, it's funny you mentioned barbecue. I watch Barbecue Pitmasters,
which is a great show. And now it's just all reruns.
They don't do any new episodes now. But I you
still get excited, Like they have three competitors and then
if those three competitors win, they move on in the
bracket and there's you know, a whole deal. But I
feel bad for a second. But in the real scheme
of things, there's like two hundred people competing.
Speaker 7 (36:14):
The random question about that. Can you rewatch that show?
Like if you know you've already seen the episode? Are
you sitting through it?
Speaker 5 (36:20):
Is that one of those times?
Speaker 4 (36:21):
Because it's not about knowing the result, Okay, it's about
oh yeah, this is how they do their You.
Speaker 7 (36:27):
Feel like you're learning a little bit barbecue, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (36:30):
With their chicken.
Speaker 5 (36:30):
Okaykay, gotcha?
Speaker 4 (36:32):
Yea. And some guys are total, you know, like weird.
Also you just root against them. Other people are cool,
but some are just you're like, gosh, I hope that
guy loses and they're like, oh darn he won.
Speaker 5 (36:42):
So it must be some good barbecue.
Speaker 4 (36:44):
But yeah, good times, good times. She's watching. So I'm
dan Byer Sam, did you have any you good? You
good on everything?
Speaker 1 (36:52):
Well, you could just say that the all of iowhawke
Eye sports minus wrestling are good enough, good enough to
get to a bowl game, but get.
Speaker 4 (36:58):
To the Rose Bull and loose. It's NCA tournament and lose.
Yeah it didn't. Last year's the championship games with Caitlyn
Clark League. Is that good enough?
Speaker 6 (37:07):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (37:07):
It was more than good enough, and I I mean like,
of course they wanted to win the whole thing, but
they're like back to back final fours, but a national
championship appearances?
Speaker 4 (37:14):
Yeah, yeah, but like to get over the hump with
an S against two SEC teams in a rows, it's tough.
Speaker 3 (37:19):
And how about the New York Jets just making it
to the playoffs. I think of all the North American
professional sports teams, they're the ones that presently have the
longest playoff droves.
Speaker 4 (37:27):
Sure, how about bowl game making it to a bawl?
Speaker 8 (37:30):
I was just gonna say, didn't the sam just stumble
into one?
Speaker 4 (37:32):
Yes?
Speaker 8 (37:33):
At some point winning the Rose Bowl was prestigious. Yeah, yeah,
it didn't mean you had to win the whole thing.
But there's also the point of bowl eligible. And now,
bowl eligible is is a pretty loose term. Sometimes they
like under five hundred.
Speaker 4 (37:46):
Yeah, and sometimes teams don't have enough players because everybody
transfers now, but to the point of until other people
become bowl eligible. But that is that is that is
a lower lower bar. But I think it's I think
it fits in our conversation. Great, all right, but no,
you mentioned the Rose Bowl. Ioway's bowl eligible a lot.
They just end up in Tampa or Orlando.
Speaker 1 (38:08):
We'll get to the Rose Bowl, but they'll get Schill act. Yes, yes,
and me and winning the Rose Bull now is not
what he used to be so.
Speaker 4 (38:15):
Well now it is. It's just different. Yeah, you're right,
you're one hundred percent right. But like Ohio State winning
the Rose bul this year was pretty awesome because then
they went to the next round. But it's not like
they're Rose Bowl champs. It's you're advancing in the playoffs. Great,
great talk, guys. I like that.
Speaker 10 (38:29):
Good.
Speaker 4 (38:29):
Yeah, she's Wati Belaio. So I'm Dan Bayer, Jason Stewart's

Speaker 5 (39:26):
I stopped looking at my bracket.
Speaker 4 (39:28):
Well there's only three games left.
Speaker 5 (39:30):
Yeah, no, I stopped looking at it.
Speaker 4 (39:32):
I had some stock in Texas Tech. Okay, oh so
close nine pointly into three minutes to go. That really
would have helped me in the Fox Sports Radio Bracket Challenge.
But I got red raided by the Gators. That is
that is the case.
Speaker 5 (39:46):
You didn't have the Gators going.
Speaker 4 (39:48):
I had Texas Tech beating them. Wow, they almost did.
They did seven minutes.
Speaker 5 (39:54):
No, they did.
Speaker 7 (39:55):
That was a crazy game. They were down what nine
and three minutes to go?
Speaker 4 (39:59):
Yeah, that's what I you said.
Speaker 7 (40:00):
Yes, sorry, It's been so many games and I had
to like go back to the moment of that game.
Speaker 5 (40:05):
Yes, you're right, Oh.
Speaker 4 (40:06):
That was just said. I'm sorry, I had to go
back to it.
Speaker 5 (40:10):
It's been a while, it's been it's a lot of games.
It's a lot of games.
Speaker 4 (40:15):
I know that Doug Doug is Doug Gottlieb on the
network has been breaking and always only got three games wrong.
We looked at his bracket. Doug isn't first, but he
actually has eight games wrong.
Speaker 5 (40:26):
So okay.
Speaker 4 (40:27):
Yes, I also Bernie Fratto kicking some butt as well.
He's up there.
Speaker 7 (40:32):
If you decided to just go with the favorites, you
probably did, okay, sure, you know, like and that was
my problem.
Speaker 5 (40:39):
You probably were fine.
Speaker 7 (40:40):
Like the problem was like I had a high point,
you know, getting there, not there, but I had high
point and then I think I had them winning the
second game too, Like that was my Cinderella story and
it just didn't go well for me from that point on.
Speaker 1 (40:55):
What it was actually your low point at the tournament,
right at the start.
Speaker 4 (41:00):
That's all right, thank you very much, Isaac Lower Coronfine
Manty at Monty Bilanio son X. You can find me
at dan Byer on Fox or on Blue Sky at
dan Byer. I'll get to the blue sky stuff. In
a second, I was gonna read some tweets, and then
I'm like, you know what, I'm not reading anybody who
has a profile picture of a dog. It's not going
to happen. Because one guy was criticizing us. But then
(41:21):
Jerry says, listening as always, JACETU hit the nail on
the head. We did what Ja has done. We would
be looking for work the next day. At minimum, he
should receive a two year unpaid suspension. But because Jerry
also has a dog, is this profile picture? I have
to read what machine wrote. I don't think that's his
real name or her real name, but I'm just guessing.
The reason Jah keeps doing this stuff is because the
(41:43):
media keeps making excuses for him and other athletes in
the similar situations you all are too. Right now, I
don't know what excuse we made. I don't think that
we made any excuse whatsoever for him. Excuse but exqueeze me.
I didn't think we did. Thanks for Let's yeah, he
did say he heard an analyst actually say maybe he
doesn't know better. No, we know that he knows. He
(42:05):
has he knows. That's why he did it last night
in the first quarter and then do it with the
games of the line and his mind's going crazy because
he just hit the game winner, because that's not where
his mind was. He wasn't thinking about it. He knows
exactly what he's doing.
Speaker 7 (42:16):
And if he doesn't know after everything that has happened,
then we have a separate conversation to be having.
Speaker 4 (42:20):
With John Brant.
Speaker 5 (42:21):
Absolutely if he doesn't know.
Speaker 4 (42:24):
Lebron James keeps to me having conversations with the media.
You loved what he said last night, and mean what
I mean, I loved you couldn't stand it?
Speaker 7 (42:34):
It's that I you know, I'm just I don't even
know if it was that I couldn't stand it.
Speaker 5 (42:39):
I think I laughed.
Speaker 7 (42:41):
When I heard him say this because I just was like,
are we do you hear yourself what you're saying? We
have the sound right like This is after the game
against again the Lake lost lost to the Warriors in
LA and this is a little bit of the post
game that he had to say.
Speaker 12 (42:58):
I mean, been a part of them making big acquisitions
to change their dynamic at her team before that had
to go against someone they added Kevin Durant, So I
mean Jimmy Butlers is great, and you know he's as
a toughness to him, as a championship DNA type of guy.
It's always the same. They always figure it out. They
(43:19):
always add somebody that makes it dynamic.
Speaker 7 (43:21):
They always add someone who makes it dynamic.
Speaker 5 (43:25):
My guy, you just added Luka Dancic.
Speaker 7 (43:28):
You just added arguably top three best player in the
world to your team. And here you are saying the
Warriors always do this, adding a dynamic player who you know.
Speaker 5 (43:41):
I love me some Jimmy Buckets. I love Jimmy Butler.
He is great.
Speaker 7 (43:45):
To say that he and Luca are even comparable, probably not.
Speaker 5 (43:51):
And I love Jimmy. And what's even funnier if you look.
Speaker 7 (43:55):
At Jimmy's statline pedestrian, he did not do much.
Speaker 4 (44:00):
From the floor eleven points, four rebounds to assist in
three steals.
Speaker 7 (44:04):
And why because he's there to help facilitate other things,
absolutely help Draymond on the defensive side, help Curry get open.
Speaker 5 (44:13):
Curry had a great game. Pajemski, Brandon Pajemski also.
Speaker 7 (44:16):
Had a great game, but it was like what he
did wasn't this, Oh my god, look at the performance
that Jimmy Butler did in order for us to lose
at home against the Warriors.
Speaker 5 (44:26):
It wasn't him. He wasn't the reason that they won.
Speaker 7 (44:29):
And so it's just so funny because not only did
you just have Luka Dancic, you had Kevin Durant. You
have been surrounded by star players your most of your career,
and here you are kind of complaining that the Warriors
got Jimmy Bucket.
Speaker 4 (44:46):
Here's where I don't think it's apples to apples is
when he's comparing the addition of Jimmy Butler with the
addition of Kevin Durant. Right, like Jimmy Butler, you like
him more than I do.
Speaker 5 (44:57):
Yes, I like him more than a lot of people.
Speaker 4 (44:59):
I will said that he's fitting very well. He hasn't
hasn't feathers. To your point, last night wasn't the reason
why they won. It was because of pajem Ski, was
because of Kaminga. Moses Moody played well for them last night.
In fact, Steph's plus minus was actually negative, as crazy
as that was, and he.
Speaker 7 (45:18):
Didn't shoot the ball well from three, even though he
was a little beloving.
Speaker 4 (45:21):
Yes, but the stretch in the fourth quarter where it
felt like they were you know, trading Three's big moment,
but they were able to keep him at arm's length.
I felt it was almost an opportunity for Lebron to
remind us on how bogus it was that the Warriors
got Kevin Durant and that it probably cost him championships
(45:41):
at that point, because to your point, it wasn't that
it was Jimmy Butler's great game, even though the question
was about Jimmy Butler and how he was incorporating himself
with the Warriors. To your point, he wasn't. He wasn't
a huge factor last night. But I wonder if Lebron's
ulterior motive in bringing up they always do that because
they've tried. They've tried to bring in D'Angelo Russell didn't
(46:04):
work out. You know, there have been other players they've
tried to refresh and do things different and it hasn't
panned out. And now you have these young players who
are actually making strides without Klay Thompson being there, and
it is a different look, and now you can bring
in Jimmy Butler. So it's not apples to apples in
that situation. I just felt like Lebron wanted to take
the opportunity to tell us son he should have more
(46:26):
rings if it wasn't for Kevin Durant signing with Golden State.
Speaker 7 (46:29):
And also how about telling us already that you it
seems like you think you're gonna lose to the Warriors
in a seven game series. Like that's already sounding like
defeat to me.
Speaker 5 (46:37):
Well, yeah, they do this. I've had to deal with this.
Speaker 4 (46:40):
Yeah, they haven't been playing well.
Speaker 7 (46:42):
They haven't they and the Warriors have been playing well
with Jimmy like the Laker Luca Lebron, you know hype
that we everyone saw.
Speaker 5 (46:51):
How many did they win in a row? Seven?
Speaker 7 (46:52):
I think or something, yes, And then it kind of
like dipped and like they haven't really been playing as
together as well as the Warriors. But this seemed also
like a foreshadowing in case we lose. Remember I told
you they do this, they add dynamic players, and I'm
just letting you know in case we lose to them.
Speaker 4 (47:08):
I just immediately said, yeah, I don't know if they
won seven in a row, but it sounded good. They
did win a bunch of games, I think something like that,
but they do have one of the worst records. We
just saw a graphic on an NBA TV while we
were in the studio at a little while ago. I
think they're six and nine in their last fifteen and
I feel that the more that you watched Luca play,
the more that you're seeing maybe why Nico Harrison ended
(47:30):
up making a move. I mean, there was a point
last night where Draymond stripped them of the ball.
Speaker 5 (47:35):
Such a good and he didn't even complain. That's how
good it was. Luca flops and complains all the time.
He didn't even do anything. He was like, damn he Well,
that was.
Speaker 4 (47:41):
The thing is he didn't even do anything, was like
in terms of like complaining, but he also didn't like
immediately run back on defense.
Speaker 5 (47:48):
No, I you know, you know, like and he was frustrated.
Speaker 4 (47:51):
At that po Yeah, and completely frustrated. And I think
that's part of it. So he's frustrated in the NBA
Finals last year and watched them, you know, he's committing
fouls and being lazy and yeah, so the honeymoon is over.
I think that we can realize that with the Lakers. Now,
what happens over the next uh you know, week or
two for as the regular season wraps up, we'll really
see how this team ends up entering the playoffs because
(48:13):
it doesn't seem like it's as feel good as it
was with Lucas.
Speaker 7 (48:16):
It just seems like the Lakers are right because I
think at the beginning it was like, obviously, give Luca
the ball, right, like, let Luca run the show. And
I feel like the Lakers don't know if that's the
approach that they want or if they still want like
Lebron running the show. And then you have Austin Reeves,
who's great, like I I just don't think they realized
how to manage with Austin Reeves, who is becoming his
(48:40):
own star.
Speaker 4 (48:42):
Quote unquote, yeah, I think. I think that's shooting his.
Speaker 7 (48:47):
Veins, shooting up his veins, shooting shooting up the ice
in his veins.
Speaker 4 (48:53):
I said, it's shooting heroin.
Speaker 7 (48:54):
Yeah, that's he's veins, But it does look like he's
shooting something.
Speaker 4 (48:59):
To listen to the names we talked about for the Warriors, Kajemski, Kaminga, Moody,
it wasn't all Curry, Butler and Green, And I think
with the Lakers is you are also going to need
other people aside from James Doncicic and Reeves did you see.
Speaker 5 (49:16):
The bench for the Lakers seven points yesterday.
Speaker 4 (49:19):
All right, Ronnie, time to step on.
Speaker 5 (49:21):
It, Sevin. We could have gone seven.
Speaker 4 (49:24):
Three, four, five, six seven. She's Monty Bellagio, So I'm
Dan Byer. We are in for Cavino and Rich today.
