Spectacles in the world of sports.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
I like Chris Sabo.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
No, No, those are some sweet goggles, the Kurramus. You know,
I was the kid that wore the I didn't wear
the Sabo goggles. But if you were kid of glasses,
you had that week ass strap that held your glasses
in place, that did not give you cred by the way, No,
they gave you wedgies. Yeah and yeah. Spectacles in the
world of sports. We'll talk about that, meaning the circus

(01:40):
acts that I find to be very intriguing. Plus a
new game that sweep in the nation. We're gonna play
quote me on this action pack Tuesday, giving away some
prizes here. Plus we got to tell cry Babies and
sports cry Baby Cray. But first and first, mostly your
thoughts on the Dodgers game yesterday. Less about the Dodgers,

(02:03):
even though it was a great win Danny g and
a great game. More about show Hayes triumphant return. We
talked about it here on the show. One to two
innings was expected. We're like, well, how many pitches thirty
forty pitches? I don't know, But do you feel like
It was a little bit of a letdown for people
that overpaid for tickets and or where you just impressed

(02:26):
to see show Hey back out there. It was a
bit of mixed emotions for me. So cool to see
him clocking out one hundred, one hundred one miles per hour. Yeah,
but it did seem that he had no command of
his fastball. Maybe that was adrenaline, maybe that was rust.
I don't know, but it seemed like he didn't have
that control. And then he let up one earned run,

(02:48):
right one day single, a nice single from her eyes.
But he was only in for one inning again, one
inning more than we've seen since twenty twenty three. But
if you overpaid for tickets, ri to say you saw that.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
Should have been a strikeout when Machado went around, No,
I mean that swing was all the way around.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
That's why I'm glad we're talking about it. And if
you just read the box score that it was tatis
with that blop single, right, if you just saw the
box short that was a weak single and then a
wild pitch, and you know, so it was a bloop single,
but it didn't seem like he had the command. Was
it the fact that he hasn't been on the mount
in a minute, or was it just adrenaline flowing and

(03:28):
he was overthrowing. Well, if you're a casual fan and
you were disappointed, like, wait, we paid all that money,
oh Tani's return, if you expected more than twenty five
thirty pitches in one inning, I almost say shame on
you. You deserve it, because a real Dodger fan, Danny, I'd
imagine out here, knew what you were gonna get. To
be disappointed. You knew he wasn't even gonna go ninety

(03:50):
pitches five innings. That was never but you were at
least hoping for two winnings. Right if you just go
on strikeout, you're sitting all that game roun Yeah, yeah,
but you're sing in all this La traffic.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
You're gonna manage to get out of the office. You're
getting the kids going to go see Shorey.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
You're probably paying double the amount because of show hel
Tani's first time on the Mount as a Dodger. And again,
all these things are great, and it's gonna end up
being great in the future, but you're at least hoping
for two innings. I felt a bit of a letdown,
like a a little more than that is there. I know,
very cool and I know the answer is one yes.

(04:29):
But can you imagine being one of those fans that
you went to the stadium thinking you'd get there early,
you hit some terrible LA traffic and you get in
there in the middle of the first and you're like, what, I.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
Don't feel sorry.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
I don't feel sorry for any of the fans that
just want to brag to people. I was there for this,
and I was the one there for that. Like, either
you're a fan and you can watch it on TV. Okay,
that's great if you can go, but you know what
I'm saying, Covino, like, it's a show off kind of thing.
You know, on a side, you knew what you were
walking into.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
The MLB free Game of the Week, and of course
it was blacked out so I couldn't even watch it
out here in LA. But I saw all the highlights,
you know. I made sure to tune in. I was
watching the box score the game day live. Rich, you
have personal friends that made the last minute decision to like, yo,
I guess we're going now.

Speaker 1 (05:18):
Do you know how much they overpaid for that?

Speaker 2 (05:20):
I think they said easily over a hundo a ticket each,
So you got to ask yourself, if you're a family
of Ford, that's an extra four hund do you paid?
Was that one inning that maybe maybe a cough, maybe
a missed even still is one inning? Was it really
worth it? I mean, if you're in pain, I was.
You were one of those type of people that like
to be at the event. If you're the person that's like, Yo,

(05:41):
big event, I gotta be there. I think it is
a little la braggy in a fine way to me.
I was there for Otani's pitching debut. I think it
was braggy, but I also think it was awesome for
the sport of baseball, for Otani, for the Dodgers, just
to see him back out there, and just to be
reminded of why he is who he is and how
ridiculous he is that he can just get out there

(06:03):
and throw one hundred and one miles prior, Like this
guy's gross. It's like, get out of my face, you're
too good.

Speaker 3 (06:07):
And then tempers flared later in the game when Cease
hit Pohes and it looked like it looked kind of intentional.
I understand why Pahez was upset and sees was lights
out at first. He had struck out five straight Dodgers,
and then the bats got to him. Dodgers rallied and
had a big inning against him, and suddenly he looked
up and the score was six to two, and Cese

(06:28):
was doing that little silly smirky does as he walked off, sadly.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
But not bad for him.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
Monday Night, Monday Fun Day, Dodgers win six to three
in Otani's return. You had your NBA ok C stepping
up again, breaking that streak, went into in a row
because it was back and forth, back and forth, they
won to in a row one twenty one oh nine.
Haliburton gets hurt and you're like, oh, no, I don't

(06:54):
know about that. Yeah, that that could be the beginning
of the end, because that now now it just seems
like soonex yeah Monday Night. But still some question marks, like, hey,
was it worth all that hustle and bustle to get
to the stadium that extra flow to see one inning
even though we knew.

Speaker 5 (07:12):
It was a seven o'clock local time start, so it
wasn't like one of those five pm games where you
really are up against it trying to get to the stadium.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
I was hoping he at least went two winnings though, Sam,
I really was. And again, I know from a player perspective,
like or baseball perspective, you don't want to push him.
You don't want to push it, and that's what we expected.
But I was hoping for that at least, isn't it.

Speaker 5 (07:34):
The Dodgers MO though, to be very cautious with their
pictures because the people upstairs or analytics.

Speaker 3 (07:38):
And yeah, I was that works out really well over
the years.

Speaker 2 (07:42):
I was hoping he lit him up, though if it
was one inning, I wanted some gas, like three strikeouts,
immaculate inning.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
One thing the announcers pointed out was how cool it
was that show Hey walks off the mound, goes and
gears up to lead off in the batter's box, and
he said They said, he didn't say a word, retainny one,
not a coach, not a teammate, nothing. He just went
about his business and went up to bat. And I
was like that, that is kind of cool that you
step off the mound and then you go grab your
baseball back.

Speaker 2 (08:09):
It's like Little League or I don't know the National
League until a couple of years ago.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
You al Yankees show.

Speaker 3 (08:16):
Hey, though it's different, Yeah, but they had a lot
of those pictures rich were almost sure strikeouts.

Speaker 2 (08:20):
Yeah, no doubt they had expectations. Do you think he
even sweats that a little bit? Meaning, here's a guy
who shines under the bright lights, he steps up, he
has cameras up his nose everywhere he goes. Do you
think he feels a little bit of nerves going out
there in this sort of moment.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
I think he does, and I think he does.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
Stop it, dude, he hasn't pitched his twenty twenty three
August twenty three. Now, after seeing that last night, I
think the bigger question to wrap this up as we
move forward, we're, you know, less than a month until
the All Star break. We're seeing how the NL and
AL are unfolding Dodgers where you thought they'd be. Is
shohe Atani part of the postseason starting rotation or is

(09:00):
he a weapon out of the pen?

Speaker 1 (09:02):
Did maybe you make him a closer down the stretch.

Speaker 2 (09:04):
Of your bullpen starts to falter like I thought that
was the plan, Like he wants to start, there's no
bullpen action, there's no relief pitcher.

Speaker 1 (09:12):
He doesn't want any of that.

Speaker 2 (09:13):
So you're saying, fast forward to October Baseball, Dodgers, Padres, Dodgers, Mets, Dodgers, Cubs,
Phillies like Big Series. Would we say yesterday, oh Toddy
on the hill? LIFs of risk are now you're taking
that risk and that's why you paid him the big
bucks to do exactly that. And that's what he wants
to do, So forget about.

Speaker 1 (09:32):
What he wants to do. That's what they're paying him
to do.

Speaker 2 (09:35):
So I know you want his bat in the lineup,
but you're also getting him on the mound. That's what
I think anyway, Danny g that seems to be where
it's headed right.

Speaker 1 (09:43):
Otherwise, why is he starting now?

Speaker 3 (09:45):
If he's healthy, he's going to be in the starting rotation.

Speaker 2 (09:48):
And the cool thing is I mean maybe you spread
him out in the meantime to keep him healthy, of course,
but I think the cool thing is Cavino. We forget,
not that we I mean I didn't, but maybe the
casual fan forgets. When they went to the Universal DH,
a National League or American League team could there was
never a rule that you don't that you can't hit

(10:09):
your pitcher.

Speaker 1 (10:10):
It just no one would ever opt for their pitcher
to hit.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
So you have real flexibility with shoe hey a Tani
meaning Danny g middle of the game.

Speaker 1 (10:18):
He could come in the.

Speaker 2 (10:18):
Third inning and start pitching and no problem, meaning there's
no limitations. You will never have to take sho ha
a Tani out of the lineup, whether you start him
middle relief, close or anything. He will always be a
bat in your nine in the lineup. So there's no
old school National League like, well if you pull him out,

(10:38):
No he is. He's hitting no matter what. And the
new rules really favor a guy like Otani where you
could do whatever you want with him. Couldno, you want
to get out of a jam in the fourth inning,
you could bring on Otani for like a batter and
then right back to DH and no difference.

Speaker 1 (10:54):
What's up, Dan Bayer? Yeah, that is the funny thing.

Speaker 6 (10:57):
It's not like you have to put him at first
base then then move the first baseman out to bring
in your pitcher. It makes it very very easy box
score DH Dash pit you know, Dash pitcher.

Speaker 1 (11:07):
It's amazing. So he's Tani is amazing last night.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
Again, my criticism comes from I just want more. I
just wanted to see more, but we'll get there. I
get it's the process, but for the people that paid extra,
I do wonder how they felt about it. And you're
probably going there for the brag, like you said, So
it'll tend to have that new cocktail, that big frozen
blue bowl of jungle juice whatever it is, and that

(11:32):
frozen bat that they're served.

Speaker 1 (11:33):
The frozen bat of goodness.

Speaker 2 (11:36):
So your thoughts chime in at Covino and Rich at
Fox Sports Radio, and of course dandyg is always on
standby at eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox. That's
our number, eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox.

Speaker 1 (11:48):
You plan on having.

Speaker 2 (11:49):
Any frozen cocktails during our broadcast on Friday as we
do it live from the Pool Circa. I've backed off
on frozen cocktails only cause sounds lame, I know, but like,
who needs the added calories?

Speaker 7 (12:02):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (12:04):
I don't know what the sugar gives you? Headaches?

Speaker 2 (12:06):
Yeah, like slurpees in vodka.

Speaker 1 (12:10):
I don't need that RSVPs.

Speaker 2 (12:11):
We got five hundred plus people, you know coming out
to see us, but don't.

Speaker 1 (12:15):
Buy Cavino Miami Vice.

Speaker 2 (12:17):
I don't want to Lava flow. I want a vodka
soda or an old fashioned like a real man. I
just don't need the slurpees anymore. I'm not a little
young baby boy anymore. I'm all grown up.

Speaker 1 (12:29):
Now.

Speaker 2 (12:30):
Let's talk cry babies in sports. Yeah, I want to
set this up. There's a recent story. But there's another
story that's in the headlines, and that's Rafael Devers. You know,
the Red Sox dished them for a bunch of nobody's
a bunch of prospects from the San Francisco Giants. So
he's now a San Francisco Giant because he refused to
play first base. That's really what it comes down to.

(12:52):
They're saying, the minute he said no can do, I
can't go for that. No, No, the minute he said
no can do, they're like, all right, you're not willing
to do what I don't know players like Mookie Betts are.

Speaker 1 (13:07):
Willing to do. Play where we need you play like
a team.

Speaker 2 (13:12):
Then a mental note, Yep, Raphael Devers doesn't want to
play it says it's.

Speaker 1 (13:18):
Not good for him.

Speaker 2 (13:18):
We get all that they dish him, and now he's
going to be playing DH and third, his natural position
for the Giants. The thing was, he said he wasn't
comfortable playing first base. But he also threw the management
and the coaching staff under the bus, saying, look, they
told me I was going to be DH. You got Bregman,

(13:39):
you kick me out a third. I'm the DH. Now
you want to put me at first?

Speaker 4 (13:43):
Yo?

Speaker 2 (13:44):
You guys playing poorly. I told you I didn't want
to play first. I don't play first. He refused to
play first. Doesn't it make you respect a Rod a
little more when you look back at how he's so
badly wanted to be a Yankee, even though you guys
in the fans sort of treated him like a chump.
He wanted to be a Yankee so bad that he's like,
I'll play third base. Derek Jeter, you got short stuff.

(14:05):
It makes you look back and say, did people not
give a Rod who was a bigger star than Jeter
at the time. I don't think he got enough credit.
I really your star. But you know that Jeter owned
that team and he owned New York, so I don't
think he had much of a choice. But I do
give him credit. You're right, and maybe he doesn't get
enough credit for that. And I think he wanted that ring.
He knew that was his chance to win. You know what,

(14:26):
I call it the softball theory. When you're playing Rex sports, softball,
pick up basketball, you name it. If you're the new
guy right, or anything for that matter. If you say, hey,
where do you play? Where can we use you?

Speaker 1 (14:40):
You know what? The answer always is wherever you man,
wherever you need me.

Speaker 2 (14:44):
Nothing is more I rolly than when some new kid
that's playing on a team is like, I play shortstop
and I got third. Yeah, I only play short I mean,
it's a bad look for Rex sports, So you don't
nobody could use my bad You don't think it's even
a worse look in pro sports when you're actually playing
for something of significant significance, for a World Series or

(15:06):
an NBA title or a Super Bowl or anything, you
don't think the answer always should be wherever.

Speaker 3 (15:12):
You need me.

Speaker 2 (15:13):
Well, let me plant this nugget because I want you
to look at it from a different perspective, or at
least try or maybe you're not gonna see it or
agree at all. But my first instinct was, well, my
first instinct was what a cry baby, Raphael Devers is
you're gonna says, You're gonna say, Weeni, it's Weenie play
first base. You're a baseball player. You're part of the team.

(15:37):
They need you at first Then when they dished him,
my first thought was good, because he's a Yankee killer.
He has over thirty home runs against the Yankees in
his career, the highest a monthst active players. But then
I heard Joe Girardi talking about it rich and it
made me think a little differently, and I just want
to share that with you. Joe Girardi, former Yankees manager

(15:58):
and now broadcaster analyst. So he's talking about it, and
he goes, you know, it's very common, very common for
players to refuse a manager's request, he said, But the
difference here was that it was made public, and that's
where the problem is. He goes, as a former manager,

(16:19):
I have plenty of experience in going up to players
and saying, hey, I need you to do X, Y
and Z or play this position, and oftentimes they have
told me I'm not comfortable doing that. And if it's
such a common thing, why are we so hard on
Rafael Devers? And then he goes on to explain this too,
It's a very common misconception that anyone could just get

(16:42):
out there to first base and play like hey, hey,
fat guy, Hey this is a.

Speaker 1 (16:47):
Who's out of shape get on first break.

Speaker 2 (16:49):
This isn't little league or reck softball where it's like
the tall guy, lefty or fat guy could just play first.

Speaker 1 (16:55):
Now that's that's not its major league.

Speaker 2 (16:57):
This is coming from Joe Okay, former manager, so he's
sort of letting you in on the secrets. He goes,
this happens, but I'm not going to call out my
player because they told me in confidence that they weren't comfortable.

Speaker 1 (17:10):
I'm not going to.

Speaker 2 (17:11):
Put them somewhere where they're going to fail or feel uncomfortable.
That's going to be detrimental to them, their career and
the team. He goes, and this story went public, and
that's really the difference. He goes, But what he said
in his request is no different than what happens all
the time. And he said, the biggest misconception is that
first base is easy, get out there and play.

Speaker 1 (17:30):
He goes, It's not easy. It's not an easy position
to learn.

Speaker 2 (17:36):
And when you think about it, aside from catching, I
would say that first base is your second skill position.
You have to learn how to how to position yourself
and cover the bag. You have to learn how to
scoop the ball. You have to have a special glove,
Like there's certain things that go along with so to
respect Raffield evers to just get out there and play
when he's never played before is kind of understandable, especially

(18:00):
from a veteran. And and I was gonna say leader
of the team. He didn't act like a leader in
this moment, but he's a guy who delivers. Yeah, I mean,
Kevino makes the point in that, for all we know,
pick any other star on a team, for all you know,
Bryce Harper or lindor you.

Speaker 1 (18:17):
Know, Aaron Judge.

Speaker 2 (18:18):
They might have been like, yo, Judge, how do you
feel about you know, playing first base or dad?

Speaker 1 (18:23):
Or he might have said yeah, coach for real, like
not feeling.

Speaker 2 (18:27):
I know, I'm not comfortable there, and like okay, so
we're not going to put you there. But this became
such a thing where it's like no, but we need
you there. Because they again poor planning, which he called
them out on, they had no choice but to try
to get him there. So the moment they were able
to dish him, they did. So is he right or wrong?
When you listen to both sides? Is he a cry baby?

(18:48):
Or did he have a point? This is the major leagues.
This is his career. Do you want to put somewhere
where you're not going to shine your brightest and and
have that potential to fail and all of a sudden
everyone's thinking you suck, when meanwhile, hey, I'm not a
first basement. I'm saying, look at us. There is the
sentiment that you said that everyone that's a fan loves

(19:10):
to lead with they're getting paid millions, but that doesn't
necessarily mean that's what's best for you, your future, the team, everything,
just because someone pays you millions. Like if you got
your reputation, if you got a contract here at Fox
and it was for a really nice amount of money,
they're like, you have. But Covino, what we want you
to do is before every show, you got to just

(19:31):
pop on Instagram live and start dancing. Okay, now think
about this, so hold on, think about this, guys. I
want everyone to think about it because we're real quick
and I look, I can't stand Rafael Dever. It's because
he's a Yankee killer, but I do understand that everybody
has strengths and weaknesses.

Speaker 1 (19:45):
This guy wanted to.

Speaker 2 (19:45):
Lean into his strengths and not expose himself as an unqualified, unskilled,
first basement, something he wasn't comfortable with, so he spoke out,
and it makes him look weak. If management did come
up to me and said, hey, I I need you
to dance because there's a new trends on TikTok and
we think that'd be great for our social media pages,
I'm like, yo, man, I'm not that comfortable being your

(20:10):
social media clown like that. That's not who I am.
That's not my persona. I'm not good at that. Maybe
rich is good at that, but I'm not good at that.
So you're asking me to do something I'm not comfortable with.
So is he wrong? Is he a cry baby or not?
Because we have another cry baby cry baby story in
the next And by the way, you would not dance
on social media, you know what, I'm rich because that's

(20:31):
not my strength. The difference, though Kavino, would be if
my strength is is doing what we do here on
the air. If the boss then said, yeah, I get it, Covino,
that's not you, Versus then went out and said, can
you believe Cavino won't be a team player and dance?

Speaker 1 (20:46):
And that's what happened.

Speaker 2 (20:47):
That what happened, and when Joe Gardis saying that happens
all the time, it just doesn't go public because he
wants to protect his players and vice versa. Doesn't that
make you think a little bit? I mean, it's coming
from Girardi has a little experience here. Even on the
simplest term. Sometimes we're asked, are you guys willing to
do this commercial read? I'm always like, yeah, sure, cool,

(21:08):
But imagine there was a host. It's like, I don't
want to do that one, and then the boss made
a deal about it. There's not there's not. It's not
always a yes, yeah, so not. Sometimes they'll throw things
my way. I'm like, yeah, I don't feel comfortable doing that.

Speaker 1 (21:22):
I don't.

Speaker 2 (21:23):
So why do we expect Why do we have this misconception.
I'm Steve Cavino for butt Creem. We have a misconception
that just because he's a fat guy Raphael Devers, yeah,
or he's not that spelt let's put it that way,
that he should go out there and he's scooping him
up like he's marked to Scherer. It's a skilled position

(21:45):
to how to straddle the bag is another thing. How
to position yourself, how to stretch he wasn't willing to
do it. But guess what, he's not the only cry
baby quote unquote cry baby in sports.

Speaker 1 (21:57):
There's another story. We're going to get to it.

Speaker 2 (21:58):
Yeah, a story in the NFL, and it's the reason
why a star player, a guy on the rise, said
you know, I'm done, I'm retiring.

Speaker 1 (22:06):
So again, we'll get to that. Next, we're gonna play
a fun game. Quote me.

Speaker 2 (22:10):
We'll talk about spectacles and uh, you know, hey, you
got NHL Stanley Cup game six tonight, so a lot
to talk about here, spectacles and sports. We're not going
to talk like Ben Franklin or anything sports.

Speaker 1 (22:21):
Poor great one, uh the one I spectacle.

Speaker 2 (22:24):
Of the monocle, the monopoly. No, we're not going to
talk about that, but we got a lot. That's a
that's a misconception. He never wore one.

Speaker 1 (22:31):
The planner, peanut, where's a spectacle?

Speaker 2 (22:34):
Oh alright, we got more Camino on Rich next right
here on Fox Sports Radio. So I'm so pumped to
be rocking my Travis Matthew gear in Vegas this weekend.
We're broadcasting line from Circa on Friday, Big party, Covino
and Rich celebrating Gotta where your best especially at our
golf event. You know I'm rocking that Travis Matthew GoF

(22:55):
Golf shirt. I guess I'm telling you, I'm assuming that
if everyone's gonna everyone's looking down at my pants. First
of all, I'm assuming if they're checking me out, what
tavy doing that to see my featherweight jeans that I'm
wearing from the Travis Matthew collection. I'm like, yeah, what
is every want looking at? Listen? Best jeans I've ever
had in my life. You said the polo shirts are great,
the T shirts are so soft. That Cloud collection, the

(23:18):
MLB collection, I got so much great stuff. By the way,
the speaking of that Cloud collection, that like lightweight sweater,
so nice, so perfectly fitted. So if you want to
up your style, up your game, they have branched out
to clearly not just golf stuff. They got sweet shoes
and jeans and button ups.

Speaker 1 (23:35):
It's great. I was getting at something too. We have
this big party. It's Vegas.

Speaker 2 (23:38):
Sometimes you're at that stage of life you don't know
what to wear, but you want to look nice, but
you don't know what's in style. We're telling you this
is perfect because there's something for everybody at Travismatthew dot
com and if you want twenty percent off, simple visit

Devers was like, I can't go for that. I can't
go for that.

Speaker 2 (24:07):
Covino and Rich live from the Fox Sports Radio Studio.

Speaker 1 (24:12):
Stadium Swim Friday. That's what you're thinking about. I can't
go for that.

Speaker 2 (24:16):
Oh yo, I'm telling you. Daryl Hall and Baba Booe
really slay it on this one.

Speaker 7 (24:22):
Now.

Speaker 2 (24:22):
That wasn't Babba Boy. Yeah it is is Daryl Hall
and Gary Dell about this. Looks like everybody knows ready
for a new job. Let Express Employment professionals help. While
Express helps people in all industries find work, are sweet
spot as logistic roles and Express never charges job seekers
a fee. Go to expresspros dot com. Get on, Cavino,

(24:43):
That is Rich, Danny g is here. We're playing quote
me later on, Sam has his Is that a turtle shirt?

Speaker 1 (24:50):
Teenage meant Ninja Turtles.

Speaker 5 (24:51):
It's in the vein, but it's actually for a tire
shop in my hometown.

Speaker 3 (24:56):
We'll get that.

Speaker 1 (24:57):
I thought you were a fan of the porn. Did
you ever see the porn version?

Speaker 3 (25:01):
No?

Speaker 1 (25:02):
I did, Rich has and of course Dan Byer, you've
ever seen it? What is it called a ten inch mutant?
You got, there's a version of it.

Speaker 3 (25:11):
I was not expecting that question.

Speaker 2 (25:12):
What if our listeners said it to us once and like,
what is this? Whoa watch the O'Neill. We're going to
talk about cry babies and our sports are continuing this conversation.

Speaker 1 (25:24):
Raphael Devers was traded.

Speaker 2 (25:26):
From the Red Sox to the Giants in exchange for
Jordan Hicks, Kyle Harrison, James Tibbs and some cracker jack yeah,
and health prospects. No one of significance, because the Red
Sox were like, dude, you're a crying baby and we
want you to be a team player. But Joe Girardi

(25:46):
made me think differently. He said that there's a misconception
that anyone could get out there and play first base
at a major league level, and that players often came
to him to express that they're not comfortable doing certain things,
so it's not out of the noise, and it made
me double think. So your thoughts on that, however, There
is an update on the Dever story because I don't

(26:08):
know if you saw this. As of today, Craig Breslow,
a Red Sox executive, has been getting all sorts of
threats from making this deal, and he's trying to put
the fires out saying no, we're confident this is all
going to work out in the future, because, whether you
like Devers or not, he produced for the Red Sox.

Speaker 3 (26:28):
Move over Nico Harrison. Yeah, am I right? An angry
fan released his address publicly.

Speaker 2 (26:35):
Yeah, so it's not been taken kindly. The Red Sox
got rid of Babe Ruth, they got rid of No Mo,
no Mob, no bets, and now Rafael Devers. Again, this
guy is a slugger. He just didn't want to play
first and it rubbed people the wrong way. So your
thoughts when you really think about it, and when you
put yourself in his cleats, do you want to do

(26:56):
things you're.

Speaker 1 (26:56):
Not comfortable with.

Speaker 2 (26:58):
I thought of this before we get to the other
story about the NFL.

Speaker 1 (27:02):
This is not just sports. If you got hired for
a job.

Speaker 2 (27:05):
And by the way, he was a big dog, that's
like you think big dogs here at s at Fox Sports, right,
you think they would all of a sudden want to
do the overnight shift because they needed him to. They'd
be like, Yo, I've been here hitting home runs forever, Colin,
you're gonna be on at ten pm every night. You think, well,
we need your Colin. We're short on steage. You think

(27:25):
you'd be like, oh, sure, I think I have something
to say about it.

Speaker 1 (27:29):
Guess who's not on it that hour? Stars like Mari
It's a star.

Speaker 2 (27:32):
So I'm just trying to look like I said, I'm
not in a business of defending this guy.

Speaker 1 (27:36):
I hate him, but.

Speaker 2 (27:37):
I do see a little bit of his side when
you think about it from that perspective.

Speaker 1 (27:42):
Well, then again, there are people that do roll with
the punches. Danny J.

Speaker 2 (27:46):
You're big, You're a big hip hop guy, You're a
big music guy. It does it stun you sometimes when
sometimes there's such a good thing going on a rock band,
a hip hop group, and there's like creative differ for instance,
and you're like, oh man, you got something so good
you can't just get.

Speaker 1 (28:02):
Along and roll with it. Some people have.

Speaker 2 (28:04):
A harder time rolling with the punches, Like you might argue, Yo,
Raphael Devers, you couldn't roll with the punches. You couldn't
you couldn't just you know, welcome the new guy. We
got another superstar in the lineup for you. Some people
just are like, no, I'm not going to roll.

Speaker 1 (28:19):
Through their face. That's what I do. That's what I do.

Speaker 2 (28:22):
I wintled And now there's another crime baby in the
world of sports. Well it happened a year ago, but
we finally got to the bottom of this. He was
a pro bowler for your Raiders, Danny g But again,
tight end, keep that in mind.

Speaker 3 (28:38):
Darren Walla one of my favorite players on the Raiders
at the time. Unfortunately he ran into a lot of injuries. Yeah,
you know, for a minute, I also got sidetracked with
a hip hop career. Speaking of hip hop, if you
could call it a career.

Speaker 1 (28:50):
My mom's a Raiders fan like you, and I remember
her being like, I love Darren Waller, great.

Speaker 3 (28:54):
Dude, and yeah, really really good tight end. But he
was from the practice squad in Baltimore and Gruden helped
him elevate all the way up to one of the
best tight ends in the country.

Speaker 1 (29:06):
You know, Brock Bawers made you forget about that guy.

Speaker 2 (29:08):
But but the story came out when he got traded
to the Raiders. There was a reason why he ended
up retiring taking to the Giants. You mean when I
say he got traded to the trader to the Giants,
That's what I meant.

Speaker 7 (29:23):
We were running like this counter lead running play and
I'm kind of like leading through the hole like I'm
a full back and the play is working. But I
sit down on the sideline after like a drive where
he ran like three times, and I'm like, what am
I doing with my life? I'm not here playing fullback.
I don't want to do this anymore. And I'm just
like looking at the moon. It's like early first quarter
or second quarter. Nobody else would really even know that
I'm thinking this, but almost alling, Like, yep, I'm going

(29:43):
to finish this year with the best of my ability,
but I'm definitely done playing after this year.

Speaker 2 (29:47):
So that's Darren Waller again, who decided to retire after
the Giants made him play full back against the Bills.
So again another guy resistant to play a different position.

Speaker 1 (29:59):
Ty end.

Speaker 2 (30:01):
He had experience as a tight end, but then again,
when you grow up and you're a professional, you probably
have experience all over the place, right, But again, at
a professional level could be a big ask, so, crime, baby,
you're not based on the whole Devers story refusing to
play first. Obviously he was bitter about Bregman. You got

(30:22):
Darren Waller now admitting why he decided to retire. How
do you feel about it? Are these cry babies in sports?
Or do you see their side? We made a case.
I think we made a case for both sides of it,
Like your inability to roll with the punches on a
highest level of what you do, versus Hey, listen, if
you're a big star, you might say, well, guess.

Speaker 1 (30:41):
Who doesn't have to roll with the punches? The big star?

Speaker 2 (30:45):
Should Rafael Devers the best player on the Red Sox
before they get Bregman? Should the best player have to
quote roll with the punches? That's what I'm saying. So
there are just two sides. There's two sides to the story.
We were quick to see one that was sort of
the point, and I got a credit again Jojo already
for making me at least see it in a different way.

Speaker 1 (31:03):
But I think it depends who you are.

Speaker 2 (31:06):
But then again, there's always the mookie Bets of the
world that just they're just awesome at everything. Yeah, and
they just excel everywhere they go. But you know what,
not everybody's like Mookie Bets. That's the other thing. Not
everybody's good at that. Not everybody's as versatile as Mookie
Bets does it makes them great. Let's go to Mitch

(31:26):
in New Jersey. Mitchie, you looking at it as cry
babies or listen. I'm a big star player. I don't
want to play just anywhere.

Speaker 4 (31:35):
You tell me, oh, well, how you guys doing?

Speaker 3 (31:37):
Good man? What's up weekends?

Speaker 4 (31:41):
I traded him because months he's okay. But he's doing tailor.

Speaker 5 (31:44):
As clear as you will get Joshau.

Speaker 4 (31:46):
But I think he does that right. The age is
pretty born first base. You know you're not get that
much action.

Speaker 1 (31:53):
And activity the age.

Speaker 8 (31:55):
The third is our.

Speaker 4 (31:55):
Core and he should get some may weight always others
get good presidence.

Speaker 2 (32:00):
And you know, Mitch just made me think of you
know what you just Mitch just all I said that
I needed to hear.

Speaker 1 (32:06):
Was I heard hot corner.

Speaker 2 (32:12):
When you play an infield position and you've honed your
abilities to be like, you know, I'm an infielder.

Speaker 1 (32:17):
Man.

Speaker 2 (32:18):
If your team that you signed a big deal with
is like, yeah, that's not you anymore?

Speaker 1 (32:22):
Is he pretty much saying like, yeah, that's not me anymore,
you know what I'm saying? Or no, not really? All right?

Speaker 2 (32:31):
Heat his mind is I'm a left side of the
infield guy. I'm I can handle that hop, I'm a
I got the hot corner.

Speaker 1 (32:39):
It's a very reaction position.

Speaker 2 (32:44):
And now you're telling them, yeah, like you're as long
as you're with this organization, Yeah, that's not you anymore.

Speaker 1 (32:51):
You're a DH You're gonna play first base. I want
to do that. Like that's sort of an adjustment.

Speaker 2 (32:55):
That would be Hey, guess what, you know what you're
you're making exceptions for Shohio Tani. No one really what
do you really want to pitch and take that risk? Yeah,
I know you're paying him a lot of money, But
it's also him saying, no, I'm a pitcher and this
is what I want to do.

Speaker 1 (33:09):
So they're like, okay, whenever.

Speaker 2 (33:10):
You say show Hey, you know, dude, Devers is a
big star in Boston.

Speaker 3 (33:14):
I don't know about Waller.

Speaker 1 (33:16):
Do you think that with the Giants.

Speaker 2 (33:20):
It was them stepping on his toes or should he
have I think he wasn't what he was a big
star with the Giants at the time. This was twenty
twenty three, his eighth year in the league.

Speaker 1 (33:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (33:32):
Yeah, he was about a year and a half removed
from Pro Bowl form at that time.

Speaker 2 (33:36):
Right, I had with some injuries, you know, Kimno, I
had one more analogy because I'm gonna I think that
was almost the reality check of like, oh, I guess
I'm not the superstar tight end that I once was.

Speaker 1 (33:45):
They got me here a full back.

Speaker 2 (33:47):
It was like a realization he had in that moment too,
I guess I should retire. I'm gonna beat this horse
to death with one ten second analogy. Then we'll go
to Dan Buyer for an update. You've been playing rock
music from the early two thousand on k Rock in
New York and outside of Fox Sports Radio. You are
turbo octane OSSI's Boneyard. You're a rock guy outside of sports.

Speaker 1 (34:07):
You love rock. Yeah, what if serious XM.

Speaker 2 (34:09):
Your side hustle was like, Yeah, that's great, We're putting
you on Prime Country. It's a great example. I'd be like, look, respectfully,
it's not what I do. I'm not comfortable doing it.
You want to be a team player to my hop
along Cavino, hop Along Stevie with your country hits. I
don't know anything about country. You learn it and I'm like, yeah,

(34:29):
but I'm a veteran, like I've been. We've been doing
this a long time. Why do I got to do that?
Didn't we see this in the Howard Stern movie. Yes,
and he went to Detroit.

Speaker 1 (34:35):
He turned it to hop Along.

Speaker 2 (34:38):
But here's the thing, and it always comes back to this.
It always comes back to this two things. Actually, Well,
it's a team sport, are you Are you a team
player or not? And then it always comes back to
but we're paying you so much money? Ye look like
an ass clown on a high level, no doubt.

Speaker 1 (34:53):
dB. What's going on? Man? What's up? Fellas?

Speaker 3 (34:57):
Let's just get right into it.

Speaker 6 (34:58):
Tyrese Halliburn of the Pacers dealing with a reported calf
strain that's going into ESPN. He's gonna have an MRI
and then at that point the Pacers will determine the
severity of the injury and figure out a plan going forward.

Speaker 3 (35:10):
It's got a couple of days.

Speaker 6 (35:11):
Game six isn't until Thursday night in Indianapolis. With a
thunder up three to two in the series, Oilers and
Panthers skating. Game six tonight of the Stanley Cup Final
eight o'clock Eastern time. Panthers are up three to two.
Well win tonight gives them back to back Stanley Cups.
If Edmondson wins, they go back to Edmondson for a game.

Speaker 1 (35:28):
Seven.

Speaker 6 (35:29):
Oilers, by the way, are going back to Stuart Skinner.
He is in goal for tonight's contest. PGA Tour commissioner
Jay Monahan will be stepping down following the twenty twenty
six PGA Tour season.

Speaker 1 (35:39):
Hall of Famous skipper Joe.

Speaker 6 (35:40):
Tory will serve as an honorary coach for the American
League during next month's All Star Game in Atlanta. Aaron
boonstaff will also include Guardians manager Stephen Votes. As for
the NL staff, managed by Dave Roberts, He'll be joined
by the Braves Brian Snitker and the Marlins Clayton McCullough,
who was once the Dodgers first base coach, including last
season's championship run College World Series. Oregon State is just

(36:02):
homeward on the top of the ninth inning, but they're
only within two of Louisville right now. In the elimination game,
six or four Cardinals over the Beavers again in Omaha
in the top of the ninth guys, back to.

Speaker 1 (36:13):
You, Thank you, d B oh thanks TB.

Speaker 2 (36:15):
By the way, Raphael Devers just announced as a Red Soxy,
so he changed numbers for anyone.

Speaker 1 (36:19):
I know you love those type of things. Giant forms.
The giant goes from a number eleven as a Red
Sox to number sixteen.

Speaker 6 (36:25):
Interesting, wearing their City Connect hat too, which is really weird.

Speaker 1 (36:29):
I noticed that, by the way, Dann Bye.

Speaker 2 (36:30):
That's why you and I I we notice those things,
like what introductory press conference He's wearing their weird yes,
City Connect alright, cool dude, look god, all right, well,
hey we got more Cavino on Rich Fox Sports Radio Tuesday.

Speaker 1 (36:43):
Let's go.

Speaker 2 (36:49):
Ooh yeah, oh yeah, Covino and Rich you ready you
ready for uh this weekend Friday and Saturday, Vegas coming
on Rich four different events, four different parties Friday, Friday night,
Saturday Saturday night, and we're gonna come back with stories.

(37:11):
So don't you worry. You're gonna hear it live on
Friday from Circa. But Danny G's gonna be there, Sam's
gonna be there, Mike who runs his place, is coming
to party.

Speaker 1 (37:18):
With us later on.

Speaker 2 (37:19):
Who Yeah, a lot of Fox Sports Radio staf gonna
be partying with us, so we'll give you the details,
the scoop, who gets drunk, who gets sloppy?

Speaker 1 (37:27):
You'll hear about it.

Speaker 2 (37:28):
By the way, I would say, I'm true that you
and Michael runs his Place are driving to Vegas together?

Speaker 3 (37:33):
That is correct?

Speaker 2 (37:33):
Oh yeah, how is that not gonna be live stream
the whole time? I can't wait?

Speaker 1 (37:38):
So thanks gonna be a party fun, It's gonna be
lots of fun. Damn matter. Can I pay you to
be in that car?

Speaker 3 (37:43):
Or no way, you couldn't pay me enough.

Speaker 5 (37:48):
Torture Big D's control the radio Dan, Mike Dan would
have to ride in the truck beds.

Speaker 1 (37:54):
We're taking Mike's.

Speaker 3 (37:54):
Truck sham that it's not correct.

Speaker 6 (37:56):
I would just not produce the third most amount of
chestnuts commute understad.

Speaker 1 (38:00):
Yeah, this'll be some real heated discussions for sure. Can down.

Speaker 2 (38:04):
Cavino and Rich are live from the Fox Sports Radio
studio and it's time for our tire rack. Play of
the day, All Eyes ron O'tani's arm last night.

Speaker 8 (38:15):
Oh Tani's twenty eighth pitch A one one to Bogart's
but chopper to the left side Munces. He charging along
the line in the glove throws on the run. Freeman
stretches in time to get him and so that will
strand arise. But the Padres do get one, although Manny
Machado sacrifice fly following the back to back singles to
Greek show. Hey old Tani in his Dodger pitching debut

(38:37):
in twenty twenty five.

Speaker 2 (38:39):
Just cool to see him back on the hill this time,
obviously for the first time with the Dodgers. He did
his part with his bat though Dodgers beat up on
the pod six to three courtesy of and five seventy
Dodgers Audio Network.

Speaker 1 (38:50):
And that's our tire rack play of the day.

Speaker 2 (38:52):
For over forty years, Tyrak has been helping customers find
the right tires for how, what and where they drive.
Shift fast and free back by free road hazard protection
with the convenient installation option of mobile tire installation tire
iraq dot com the way tire buying should be. Again,
We're Coveno and Rich everything at Covino and Rich. And
to wrap up our first hour, Darren Waller decided to

(39:16):
retire after the new York Football Giants made him play
full back against the Bills. He was a tight end.
He's like, what am I doing playing fullback? And it
sort of ties into Raphael Dever saying, Yo, I'm a veteran,
the star of the team, and you're asking me to
play first base.

Speaker 1 (39:36):
I don't want to.

Speaker 2 (39:38):
And because of la resistance, one player retires, this guy
gets traded and today they introduce him as a San
Francisco Giant. But you know your thoughts on people saying no,
I'm not comfortable with this, the change of scenery, the
change of position. Well, what have we learned of the
cry baby? You're not everything? You say yes means you're

(40:00):
saying no to something else. So by saying yes to that,
he's saying no to doing what he really wants, and
that's play infield. All right, Bruno, real quick, you got
thirty seconds? What's up, Brooklyn.

Speaker 4 (40:11):
Boys, I'll make it fast. Hey, listen, I just I
never I rarely sided with the player, but I got
to say, toughest, toughest position of the hottest position besides
the catcher. On that deal, that's he's the most action
is first base. And if you're not comfortable there it's
not good, and I think he was okay, not wanting
to do it, but because of the value of a
player he is, they should have made some sort of
amends for him to move off on to you know,

(40:34):
a different position, or keep his carent position. But I'll
side with him like that.

Speaker 2 (40:37):
Man. He meant a lot to the fans, to the team,
and look, I'm glad as the Yankees fan that he's gone, Danny.
Don't look now the team two games behind the Dodgers
in the NL West. Now got Rafael Dever's in that lineup,
So the Giants looking a lot better as of right now.
All right, we got more CNR next right here, Fox
