Speaker 2 (01:36):
After this big party, we're gonna have to start lying
about how long we've been doing this because we're still
the youngest in the game. Let's make that clear, all right, Yeah,
but it could get crazy. You never know who's gonna
stop by riches drinking, I mean apparently supposedly. But hey, guys,
thank you all for being here live and for everybody
who couldn't be here live.
Speaker 1 (01:54):

again to everybody at Fox Sports Radio and iHeart so.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
I want to start where we left off last night.
I meet you at the airport. You and our buddy
Shay who works at Fox Sports Radio. You sit at
the bar at the airport and I look at the screen,
I'm like, oh, yeah, NBA Finals, the Pacers force in
a game seven? Does that think Caliburton looked like the
g even though he really didn't do that much.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
Now, it was the whole Daniel Laruss is gonna fight,
laced them up, and I think just his presence alone
really sparked the team because they just wiped them out yesterday.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
They dominated that game.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
SGA didn't have a great game, and superstars always step up.
I know that's the theory. That's the thought that when
it comes down to a game seven, whoever has the
best player, a lot of people say usually wins it.
But the Pacers looked strong yesterday, and Haliburton even played
that much.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
But he was impactful yesterday.
Speaker 4 (02:47):
We talked about how the Pacers rarely lose back to
back games. Yeah, and with that crowd behind him and
Holly coming out the way he did, and we said
he would probably be a facilitator, which he was. That's
steel and that no look pass to Siakam was insane.
Speaker 5 (03:03):
It was a poster moment.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
Yeah, dude, awesome and by the way, the smoothest voice
in radio.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
Let's give it up for Danny j.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
There is Dan Jucer Danny G on the mic, and
again the phones are open. Eight seven, seven ninety nine
on Fox.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
What I thought was interesting is that this is the
first Game seven in ten years, twenty sixteen, so it's
been a minute since we've seen a Game seven in
the NBA Finals. So we get that Sunday night, and
again we have to wait so long.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
It's Friday, k Saturday Sunday.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
But you know what that could mean, arrest at Halliburton
and a real battle.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Dude.
Speaker 2 (03:36):
That's the plus side here too, because that gives him
more chance to heal up, make sure the CAF is right.
I don't think he overextended. He played with the spark
and adrenaline. I think that rest benefits the Pacers moving forward,
even though it's away. So guys, your thoughts, let's open
it up, and you know, keep this whole game, this
whole series in mind, because in a few minutes we're
(03:56):
gonna talk about growing rivalries. Yeah, because I think even
though oh, it's not the greatest for ratings and there's
a lack of star power, as people say, dude, we're
going to a game seven. So hey, if you're not
vibing it, maybe you're just old, maybe you're just not
feeling it. But I'm telling you, this has been a
great series so far.
Speaker 3 (04:13):
I know early to say it's a rivalry, but they
all start somewhere, right Like the Celtics Lakers rivalry started somewhere.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
Every rivalry started somewhere.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
But I think the question could you know could very
well be can a new rivalry surpass an old one?
Because when you think back, think of your favorite team,
did they always have the same rival Big Mike who
runs this place?
Speaker 2 (04:38):
Who Mike? He was talking about the Reds and Dodgers.
He was like, yeah, there was a Tillery rivalry at
one point. You know, old school organizations, teams with history rivalries,
they sort of dwindle and fizzle after a while, And
maybe we're seeing one grow here.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
Can it surpass?
Speaker 2 (04:54):
Like Rich said eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox
because as a Yankees fan, everybody knows the biggest rivalry
is the Red Sox, but is it.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
Really the biggest rivalry?
Speaker 2 (05:03):
I feel like it's grown in the past few serieses.
But that's that would be seer.
Speaker 4 (05:08):
I but you know, there used to be a bigger
rivalry between your Yankees and my Dodgers.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
I was just gonna say that though with the World
Series last year, with the interleague play recently, I was
at the game Rich, but that was like a late
seventies early eighties East Coast, West Coast Dodgers Yankees, and
it took like a forty year hiatus. Yeah yeah, but dude,
that one I feel is stronger than Yankees Red Sox.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
Again, that one is back.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
And I even think the Yankees Mets because of the
Mets stealing Sodo and all the animosity there, and then
the Mets are trying to prove they're the bigger team
in New York.
Speaker 1 (05:45):
They're not the little brother team that.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
Builds a big, bigger rivalry to me than Yankees Red Sox.
So yeah, I think we could be seeing the start
of something new here and something better. Well, I think
it can surpass Rich. The classic ones will always be classic,
but there's room new.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
I think what happens is your team has a rival.
When one of those teams suck, you have to find
the new rival, right, Like, I'm a Mets fan when
the Mets were sucking.
Speaker 1 (06:11):
Do you think the Braves were like, mit, you're still
our rivals. They're like, no, the Mets stinks.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
So how about this theory, If you don't have a rival,
you sort of suck because rivals push each other, and
if no one's pushing you, you're probably not that good.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
Like you have to have someone after you, someone that
you hate.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
It's great for the ratings, great for drama, great for
the fandom. It's great for pushing your team to the
next level. We say it all the time. My favorite example,
I do all this stuff on the History Channel as
we jokingly talk about He's history boy. I'm a History boy.
Look out for me Sunday Nights, Hazardous History New Show.
But every Coca Cola needs their Pepsi, their Pepsi to
push them further. Every Muhammad Ali needs their Joe Fraser
(06:50):
to push them further. If you don't have a rivalry,
you're not bringing the best. That means no one cares
about you. It's kind of like, if you don't have haters,
then you're not that dope.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
Yeah, if you're in the entertainment world and no one
hates you, so now ivories are a good thing and
we need to honestly start embracing that. As sports fans,
we just love drama, Like, Okay, the biggest rivalry now
is the Dodgers.
Speaker 6 (07:11):
Pop.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
We're gonna get to that.
Speaker 3 (07:13):
But to back up your point before we get to
Dodgers Padres, because I think that's the hot story, right
what makes the WNBA have a heartbeat for the first time?
And ever, let's be honest, it's Caitlyn Clark Angel Reese,
and it's people going after Kitlyn. Genuine heated rivalry and
it seems like there's players that genuinely don't like each
other and that is what they need.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
The key word there is genuinely. And think about that.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
Fox Sports Radio Nation eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox.
Would you rather tune into a fight, a fight where
people are buddy chummy and they have this sort of
respect for each other, Yeah, that's great sportsmanship. But isn't
it more intriguing when they genuinely hate each other and
there's a pre fight stare down, yeah, and a press
conference and the fighters are like, yo, I hate that guy,
(07:57):
you know, I like I just.
Speaker 4 (07:58):
I want so hard as that which ones are real though, Hey,
because we've even heard some of the boxers afterwards some
of the events we've been to where they're like, yeah,
I was playing it up.
Speaker 5 (08:07):
I don't them now. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
Sometimes as showmanship, we get all that. But I'd rather
see some showmanship than nothing at all. Right, So again
we're Cavino and Enrich live from Circa Stadium Swim celebrating
the show's history, bringing the fun to you. But we
do want to take phone calls. I want to give
props back at the studio. Perfet and Jay stew are
on the phones at eight seven, seven ninety nine on
Fox if you want to chime in, because the question,
(08:30):
the core of it based on the NBA Finals Game seven,
based on Dodgers Padres. They're hitting each other, this animosity.
We love the drama, We love the growing rivalry. Can
the new rivalry surpass the classics?
Speaker 1 (08:44):
I think it could.
Speaker 3 (08:44):
And I want to ask Jay Stue, because I know
he's a big Dodger, said like you, Jay Stu, thanks
for hanging brother.
Speaker 7 (08:49):
Do you hello, everybody?
Speaker 3 (08:50):
Do you look at this Padres, Dodgers hitting each other,
bench is clearing, Dave Roberts, pushing people.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
This is first of all, great for baseball.
Speaker 3 (08:59):
But do you look at the Dodgers Padres as now
the hottest rivalry in Major League based we do?
Speaker 5 (09:04):
You know what?
Speaker 7 (09:05):
Just earlier this week, we had NFL Draft analyst Daniel
Jeremiah on the Doug Gottlieb Show, and I think he
put it perfectly. I think it's the best matchup in
baseball right now.
Speaker 5 (09:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (09:17):
He was very careful not to use the word rivalry
because we have a rival up north in San Francisco
that goes back one hundred and thirty years, and I
consider just one rivalry per team, so I can't.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
Oh, so you're saying great match I because there's a
younger generation that sports that everything is always marketing to.
So that old school rivalry may sit in our hearts,
but young people don't know deadly squat.
Speaker 1 (09:42):
About it, so what they see is all they know.
Speaker 2 (09:45):
So if a young person's tuning in to see the
Dodgers Padres and they're seeing the benches, clear, that's what
gets the headlines, and we need to embrace it and
honestly just admit that we love this stuff.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
Yeah this weekend, By the way, you know, I'm always
going to bring it back to the Mets. When you
think Mets, they're tied right now, same exact record as
the Phillies and they have a three game set that
starts today. Do you look at the Mets Phillies as
a robbery or do you think Mets braves or do
you think braves Phillies?
Speaker 1 (10:10):
Like, how do you look at it? Because I look at.
Speaker 2 (10:12):
It like again, almost the opposite of what Jay Stue said.
But I love his point because it makes you think.
I think there's room for plenty. Do you have one
person you hate or do you have multiple? So let's
say the Orioles, Well, you just hate a little more.
Speaker 3 (10:23):
So let's say the Orioles are good for five years,
five six years, and the Yankees and Orioles are battling.
Do the Orioles sort of step in if the socks
are stinking at that time.
Speaker 1 (10:32):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
I think it goes through cycles, It goes through phases.
I'm trying to think you're Mets, though, who's the biggest one?
Because I would say Mets, I'd say Mets Phillies. Believe
it or not, I don't know why that's that's the one.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
I think. Yes, do you think Mets Phillies or do
you think braves. It has a tough one.
Speaker 4 (10:48):
Since I didn't grow up with those rivalries or rivalry,
I'm not sure. But as far as the West Coast goes,
as far as what Jay Stu is saying, I kind
of agree that the Padres would like to be the giants.
They'd like to take their place as the Dodgers.
Speaker 5 (11:03):
Right.
Speaker 4 (11:04):
Let me this all started with those old white rappers
Cavino likes to joke about. Remember what was their rap
that they were doing on the morning.
Speaker 1 (11:12):
Show TV Woods It.
Speaker 2 (11:15):
Social media and we're trying to hype up the Padres.
Speaker 4 (11:18):
Yeah, and then there were parades through the streets because
they made it to the playoffs, remember, and then it's
been this heated thing, especially.
Speaker 1 (11:28):
Fast Wood's it.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
Yes, social media does help build those rivalries and fan
bases and people love it man, So that and.
Speaker 4 (11:35):
I think that's the core of the argument to count
as a rivalry doesn't have to go back X amount
of years.
Speaker 3 (11:41):
And ask yourself this, think of all your teams and
all your sports.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
Danny, you're big Raiders fan. Is it chiefs.
Speaker 5 (11:48):
In our division?
Speaker 1 (11:49):
Yes? Like all right, I'm a Niners fan? Is it?
Speaker 3 (11:52):
Am I going to always be like Yo, Damn Bayern,
your Seahawks, my Niners or do you say Niners Cowboys?
Speaker 1 (11:56):
Because of the history.
Speaker 3 (11:58):
Like I I just feel like it mean those making
the point that it could change.
Speaker 2 (12:03):
It could change because generations changed, teams change divisions. Sometimes
sometimes that team's no longer in the division has not
even matter.
Speaker 3 (12:09):
And again I feel like, like the Bears Packers, that's always
going to be right. I mean, it's the class Cardinals,
Cubs will always be a rivalry Red Sox Yankees. But
I think there's something that pop up once in a
while because of some bad blood. And I know the
Giants are playing great baseball. But right now, even as
a guy that doesn't care about the n O West,
I am glued to Dodgers, Pods.
Speaker 1 (12:30):
Dodgers Potters.
Speaker 2 (12:31):
But keep in mind that the Giants just got that
Devor's move. Posey's talking a lot of smack. Dever is
gonna bring a lot more action to that rivalry. So look,
I think there's room for plenty of them. Your calls,
your thoughts, and on a side note, on a side note,
by the way, my dad is here, Let's give it
up the Big Sea.
Speaker 1 (12:52):
Let's give it up to my parents.
Speaker 2 (12:53):
My parents are at this party stadium swim kissing. As
I know, I gotta say, it is like a weird
dream to see your parents pull side in Vegas. There's
like butt cheeks out and my parents hanging out.
Speaker 5 (13:04):
It's so weird.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
What's take it out more? Your parents are budget well,
you know what it's like people watching in Vegas, right,
and then you see that and you see your family.
It's sort of a weird contrast, you know. But hey,
we're here celebrating and we're happy to be here with you.
But the question at hand is when Dave Roberts puts
in a rookie pitcher, right, because Danny g and I
were sort of debating this. His whole thing is like,
(13:26):
you think I'm gonna have him throw a tattise. Yeah,
I'm saying yes.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
I think.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
Sometimes a manager says, hey, rookie, you want to earn
your place on this team. You want to show us
that you belong. You want to You see his reaction,
Maybe that's good acting.
Speaker 1 (13:45):
You want to win over, you want to win over
your teammates.
Speaker 2 (13:49):
Hit the guy, and it's almost like a Johnny Lawrence
creased sort of things like what do you mean hit
the guy with take him out. I think that's intentional.
I think you tell the young player to earn his
place on the team.
Speaker 1 (13:59):
By hitting the star with the school baseball And why not.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
Then, because I think if you want to show that
you belong and you got your team's back as the
young guy, it's like being initiated in a gang, like
you got to prove yourself. And I think by hitting
tattists it was intentional. I'm gonna take you back.
Speaker 1 (14:16):
That's why I love the drama.
Speaker 3 (14:17):
I'm gonna take you back to the nineties when Robin
Ventura was told by his team, if Nolan Ryan hits you,
you charge, and.
Speaker 1 (14:27):
Remember Nolan Ryan was ready.
Speaker 3 (14:30):
Robin Ventura has said since, like I reluctantly, I did
not want to charge and fight Nolan Ryan, but to
earn the respect. At the time, Nolan Ryan was a
you know, forty years old and you know Robin Ventura
was a young dude in baseball.
Speaker 1 (14:43):
But he had to do.
Speaker 2 (14:44):
It all right, So your thoughts can new rivalries surpass
the classics?
Speaker 1 (14:49):
Is their room for both those two says, hey, just one.
You gotta have one hated enemy.
Speaker 2 (14:55):
And do you think that was an intentional beanball yesterday
to send a message. I really believe the more I
think about it, it was And Dave Roberts of course
is gonna say, why would I do that? And when
we see these highlights, we're here in Vegas too, schmoozing
and boozing. When you see these things happening, it's so
great for sports. And that's why the WNBA needs to
also just lean into that every chance that we talked
(15:17):
about the other day. I know it's ugly and fast sportsmanship,
but it's great.
Speaker 3 (15:20):
Every Caitlyn Clark, you know, I poke or push to
the floor is just good for the WNBA.
Speaker 4 (15:26):
I was at Lax at my terminal and the center bar,
what had the Dodgers game on a couple of screens,
and you should have seen all of the LA Dodgers.
Speaker 1 (15:36):
Fans going nuts. Yeah, no doubt during this game. It's
a great rivalry.
Speaker 2 (15:41):
On a side note, seriously, I just got a piggyback
with any g said there's nothing more exciting than when
the bench is clear. I know, it's like ninety percent
of the time is corny and it ends up with
just a little smack talk like.
Speaker 1 (15:51):
Oh yeah, yeah, oh yeah yeah.
Speaker 3 (15:54):
Have you seen some of the fan footage from like
the first few rows.
Speaker 1 (15:57):
Yeah yeah it dude.
Speaker 2 (15:58):
When you see people come running off, you're like, oh again.
Most of the times the anti climactic, but it still
gets the adrenaline.
Speaker 5 (16:05):
Look.
Speaker 3 (16:05):
Dave Roberts was saying, I'm gonna f you up in
the tunnel. Yeah, Dave Roberts was that he wanted a
fight last night.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
So your thoughts on rivalries, start thinking about it. Fox
Sports Radio Nation, you heard all angles here. What about
the growing Dodgers padres, the growing OKC Pacers rivalry. What
are your thoughts on these things? And we're gonna play
a game too, so start getting ready. It's a little twist.
You know how we do Chipotle worker or w NBA player.
(16:34):
We're putting a little twist on that today, just our
way of bringing the fun and party from Vegas to you.
Speaker 1 (16:40):
We want to give you some giveaways because.
Speaker 2 (16:42):
We're giving away a lot of stuff here on site,
but everybody hanging out in their car at work getting
ready for the weekend.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
Juneteenth weekend, the first official weekend of the summer.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
This is our kickoff. We want to give away Swiggy
and some prizes, so stick around. We'll tell you when
to call if you want to play our new game today.
Speaker 3 (16:58):
I don't know what's growing more the Pre's Dodgers' rivalry
or the line of people wanted to take a photo
with your dad? Oh my, have you seen everyone wants
to take a selfie with Deep Stea's hilarious, It's so weird. Well, hey,
we're in Vegas. If you're in the area. Hey, I
know Vegas is one of our big affiliates. Hey, we're
at circa pool party. Let him know you're here for us.
We get there's like hundreds of people hanging out by
(17:19):
the broadcast booth, so come hang. Oh and if you
could just make it tonight, we'll be rooftop tonight. So yeah,
we're here all weekend and if not this time, next time.
But I want to hear from you guys, your thoughts
on rivalries. We'll get ready for this game. K D's
in the news, and I got a bone to pick
with Rich. I have a rivalry with Rich that I
want to talk about in address. It just gets heads
(17:39):
up assessed, all right, So we'll do that.
Speaker 1 (17:41):
But we are live, yes, Vegas, Let's hear you. Let's
hear from my Dad, who's here? And my mom?
Speaker 2 (17:48):
Look at she's hugging men. Look at that my mom. Hey, guys,
thank you guys for hanging out. We got more Cavino
and Rich on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 8 (17:56):

the nation yet. All of our shows at Fox Sports
Radio dot Com and within the iHeartRadio.
Speaker 9 (18:04):
App our cnsor live from the Circa Hotel and Casino

Speaker 1 (18:17):
Stadium swim and we are live. We have a very
special guest.
Speaker 2 (18:20):
But can we do a little cr cr CRC.
Speaker 1 (18:26):
Cr cr C. We all right, thank you guys. That's
so cool to be here.
Speaker 5 (18:32):
Guys.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
We have lots to get to. We have prizes to
give away. We are gonna play a new game, putting
a twist on a classic. Yeah, stick around for that weekend,
hobnobbing like we always do on Fridays, but without further ado,
with Glory and Laurian.
Speaker 10 (18:49):
Now let's do it.
Speaker 1 (18:49):
Let's welcome the owner of Circa, Derek Stevens Today. What's up, Derek?
How are you man?
Speaker 11 (18:55):
Great to see you guys here. I'm I'm honored to
be on the show. You guys don't know this, but
I was driving around Reno about a year ago when
we had we have a sports book up in Legends Bay,
up in Sparks, and I turned the radio. I'm in
a rental car. I turned the radio on. I listened
to you guys. I immediately when I got out of
(19:15):
the car, my first text was to our director of marketing,
I go, I gotta I gotta learn more about you guys.
Speaker 5 (19:22):
I love the show.
Speaker 1 (19:22):
I love your show, guys so awesome.

Speaker 3 (19:32):
We've been in Vegas. Is my first time here though,
and it's it's everything and more. I got anysteric. I mean,
we're at Stadium Swim. This is the most impressive setup
I've ever seen. Do you since you run this place?
Do you ever just sit out here by yourself and
watch a game on the big TV?
Speaker 6 (19:47):
I do.
Speaker 1 (19:47):
I love it.
Speaker 5 (19:48):
I actually do.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
I'm not joking.
Speaker 2 (19:50):
I do.
Speaker 11 (19:50):
I love it to be I mean, the way this
thing came about was my wife loves loves music. It
loves going to day gloves I love going to the day.
I love the sunshine. But every day club I went to,
had a little little little TV with what You're not
gonna be at one gate? Yeah, well I like to
bet on every gate. So I figured if I ever
heard she has to do something like this, We're gonna
(20:11):
build a big screen. This is one hundred and forty
three foot screen right here. Wow, you got Odds boards,
you get all the games on, like right now, we're
just watching golf. We the Cubs game on it earlier,
but tonight you know we're gonna have everything. So yeah,
this is kind of exactly what I wanted to build.
Speaker 2 (20:24):
You know, we're in the cavana now and it's a
perfect view for everybody. On a personal note, can I
just say it puts a tingle in my radio broadcasting
dingle to see logo up there, logo up there with
all the great games and on these big screens.
Speaker 1 (20:38):
It is so impressive.
Speaker 5 (20:39):
Man.
Speaker 3 (20:39):
Yeah, Derek, we were just talking about sports rivalries. Have
you been seeing what's going on with the Padres and Dodgers.
I think it's great for baseball. What's happening with Caitlyn Clark,
people roughing her up? These things are great for sports
in my opinion.
Speaker 5 (20:51):
I agree. I mean, I grew up in the Midwest.
Speaker 6 (20:53):
I grew up.
Speaker 5 (20:54):
I grew up with Sea in Michigan, Ohio state.
Speaker 11 (20:57):
As a pay rivalry, I got to see a lot
of these great rivalries on television. You know, Yankees, Red
Sox in the day. Yeah, this thing with the Dodgers
and and Podres. Uh, Yeah, it's getting a little heated.
It's a heck of a rivalry. You know, Padres Pottery's
had had a good couple of years here, but all
of a sudden, how it looks like, you know, the
Dodgers pull it away and maybe the Potteris might not
(21:18):
even make the playoffs this year.
Speaker 2 (21:19):
Derek Stevens, the owner of Circa the question we were
asking to ken new viral v rivalries surpassed the classic ones.
Speaker 6 (21:28):
Oh.
Speaker 11 (21:28):
Yeah, that's the great thing about sports. You don't know
what rivalries gonna are gonna come to pass here. I mean, yeah,
there's new rivalries being built every year, every season, every sport.
So I think we're I think we're seeing that a
little bit more in hockey. I think we're seeing that.
Speaker 5 (21:41):
In the NBA.
Speaker 11 (21:43):
Absolutely, there's there's always new rivalries. So that's a fun
part of the.
Speaker 2 (21:46):
Fan and what does that mean on the business side
of things, for you, when there's great you know, rivalries
and fights and sports and things.
Speaker 1 (21:53):
As a casino owner.
Speaker 11 (21:54):
Well, I love rivalries because it means people have opinions.
And if people have opinions, it means they like to
put a couple of bucks down. So I'm all about
the handle, man, I'm all about good people to have
an interest. And I think everybody understands that that gambling
sports gambling is a good thing.
Speaker 5 (22:09):
I mean, it's good for the leagues.
Speaker 11 (22:11):
It's good for the team owners, it's good for the players,
is good for the players unions.
Speaker 5 (22:16):
It's good for.
Speaker 11 (22:16):
Fans because you get a little you're you're a little
more invested in it.
Speaker 5 (22:20):
You put twenty bucks on the game, You're paying a
little more attention.
Speaker 1 (22:22):
It's a little more fun. Yeah, Derek.
Speaker 3 (22:24):
The other day we were talking about Troy Aikman came
out and said, because there's so much sports wagering now
and it's part of the mainstream Fox Sports. We do
in DraftKings, other people do a fan duel, bet MGM,
all these different sites. They said, the refs and umps
need to get it right. They owe they owe it
to the fans. To get the calls right now.
Speaker 11 (22:43):
Yeah, I mean I think I think you know, we
saw WW coach talk about how how all the athletics
have gotten better and better, but maybe maybe maybe umpires
and maybe the referees haven't kept.
Speaker 5 (22:54):
Up with that same pace.
Speaker 6 (22:55):
You know.
Speaker 11 (22:56):
I think what we're seeing in baseball a lot more
of the electoral baseball. I think they would really good job.
I think they're getting more more uh more of the
UH decisions correct. And then with the challenge rule, it
seems to work. Football is getting better. But I think
you're right. I think people need to have people you
don't want to get. You don't want to have a
bad beat. That that was a referee induced bad beat.
Speaker 2 (23:18):
How wild was it for you to see the progression
of where gambling has gone today in sports from taboo
back in the day to embrace in the way we
see it now.
Speaker 5 (23:28):
Yeah, you know, it's crazy.
Speaker 6 (23:29):
Uh.
Speaker 11 (23:29):
I owned I own the Triple A baseball team here
in Vegas for six years and we were the Las
Vegas fifty ones. We were we were a Triple A team. Yeah,
a couple a couple of years with the Dodgers. I
had four years with the Blue Jays. And then I
sold the team. And at that point in time that
was like two thousand and seven to twenty twelve. You know,
people that they thought, you know, Vegas would still never
(23:50):
have a team, forget about football, forget about baseball, will
never happen, never happen, and boy, in a.
Speaker 5 (23:56):
Decade, things really changed. It all changed when when the
Golden Knights came here.
Speaker 11 (24:00):
And remember all this skeptics said, hockey you'll never work
in the desert, and it's become one of the most
one of the most successful franchising insane. I think it's
been sold out every game for the last for the
eight years they've been in existence.
Speaker 5 (24:12):
And then when the Raiders came that was the whole thing.
Speaker 11 (24:14):
That that's when like, Okay, you know it's a change,
but also realize, I mean, in every city in America,
you're more than likely.
Speaker 5 (24:22):
Going to have a casino right next door to you.
Speaker 11 (24:23):
It's not like the old days, but the only place
you could come to comfort to a casino was either
Vegas or Atlantic City.
Speaker 1 (24:29):
Derek, I got to ask, because not to kiss your ass?
Is we kiss it ass?
Speaker 3 (24:33):
That's that's my dad's big hangou kissing. Let me tell
you when you guys designed this place. It it has
it has the feel of the strip, slightly off the strip,
like this place is by far the nicest place in
downtown Las Vegas. Was the idea to make this place
like this spot in downtown? Was that the initial thuck?
Speaker 11 (24:55):
Yeah, I mean a lot of things I wanted to do.
I like downtown better than the Strip. Yeah, it's a
it's a fun vibe.
Speaker 5 (25:01):
I like it down here.
Speaker 11 (25:02):
Real estate was a little less expensive, so I could
afford to build something a little bit better.
Speaker 5 (25:07):
And I love it down here. Uh, but you know
what building stadium swim.
Speaker 11 (25:10):
I wasn't trying to build the best pool in the
downtown or the best pool in Vegas.
Speaker 5 (25:14):
I was trying to create a destination that people would
fly to. I wanted to.
Speaker 11 (25:19):
Design something that I thought would be the best pool
in history. And on a Saturday or Sunday in September,
people understand this is where, you know, watch every football
game all that I want to.
Speaker 1 (25:29):
I'm waiting to do a cannon ball soon. Is this
show go?
Speaker 3 (25:33):
By the way, I gotta I gotta ask you about
the Circa Survivor pool. You got going so many cool things,
but just tell us about this one because I love
me some NFL wagering, So tell me how this is
working out for you.
Speaker 11 (25:43):
It's good now, I'll tell you. We started off with
circa million. That was That was about six years ago,
and that's a traditional traditional football Haiti caamping contest where
you pick five games against the spread.
Speaker 5 (25:54):
Every week you pick.
Speaker 11 (25:55):
We have quarterly prizes, you have, you have the prizes
for the overall winner and we get tea six million
dollars in payouts. In that contest, it's one thousand dollars
to enter. You got to enter in Las Vegas, but
you could play from anywhere because proxies.
Speaker 5 (26:08):
Put your picks in for you.
Speaker 11 (26:09):
Matter of fact, like ninety five percent of the participants
don't even living live into Vat They live without the
country around the world.
Speaker 5 (26:16):
That's the traditional football contest.
Speaker 11 (26:18):
If we have more than six million dollars of entries,
all that money goes back into the into the pot.
We don't take a reak, so it's great free. The
next contest is called Circuit Survivor. We started that up
a year later. That's the same thing. A thousand dollars
to enter and it's real simple. You just pick one
game each week, no point spread. What what the catch
(26:38):
is though, every week that goes by, you can't You
can't pick a team twice, so you have a smaller
pool of who to pick from every week. And you know,
at Circuit we celebrate holidays, so we consider Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Speaker 5 (26:52):
It's old week. So you got to go twenty to
oh to make it through the year. Last year we
had we had.
Speaker 11 (26:57):
Fourteen thousand, two hundred sixty six entrants, so fourteen point
two million odd dollars and there were four entrants that
made it the distance with twenty you know, and they
split up, they chopped up the fourteen.
Speaker 5 (27:10):
Point two million.
Speaker 1 (27:10):
How amazing is this year?
Speaker 5 (27:12):
We're kicking it up a notch.
Speaker 11 (27:13):
So we're we're guaranteeing at least fifteen million and I'm
hoping we blow right through that and survivor.
Speaker 2 (27:20):
Yeah, we're kicking off the weekend here at Circa and
we're hanging out with Derek Stevens, the owner of Circa,
And it's not everything. You have the owner of one
of the coolest casinos on your show hanging out. So
I got to ask you, much like sports, sports is competitive,
life is competitive, business is competitive. How do you get
to this point, Derek? Is it like some sort of
crazy tenacity you have? Are you a super competitive guy?
(27:43):
How do you own a casino like this and live
this sort of life?
Speaker 6 (27:46):
Yeah?
Speaker 11 (27:46):
You know, I'll tell you when you got to ask
that question like that, tell us you've been around for
a little while. I bought my first casino in two
thousand and six, right across the street, literally across the street.
You're eighty feet across Fremont Street, called the Golden Gate.
About fifty percent of it it wasn't it was single
digit millions. That's what it costs. And then we renovated it,
added to it this little casino. It closed at ten
(28:08):
o'clock at night, like the doors closed.
Speaker 1 (28:11):
Wow.
Speaker 11 (28:11):
And I figured, well, let's see if you can get
people to show up between ten pm and six am.
And I kind of figured I had a free role
because how could I screw it up? There's nobody there
to begin with. So we just tried a couple different things,
start cranking some music and got some dancing girls in there,
and all of a sudden it took off and it
worked out pretty well, and then kind of parlayed that
(28:32):
into buying FitzGeralds, which is now the d right down
the block. A couple couple of blocks that worked out
pretty good. And then somehow, after I got these two
casinos under my belt, we developed a great team, had
the ability to purchase up this city block that Circus
sits on, and I had a crazy idea of building
a sports orientated casino and just had a lot of
(28:54):
ideas over the years and then never really thought.
Speaker 5 (28:57):
It would happen. But we went to Wall Street.
Speaker 11 (28:59):
We pitched our idea and somehow those lunatics loan me
the money.
Speaker 1 (29:04):
But we had You have one more question. Congrats on
all your success too. It's awesome. We're happy to be here.
What's the wildest event or wildest game to watch here?
What was the wildest scene that you had going on
at stadium?
Speaker 5 (29:18):
Swim?
Speaker 1 (29:19):
I would say, is it a fight or is it football?
Speaker 10 (29:21):
Like?
Speaker 5 (29:22):
What is it?
Speaker 11 (29:22):
I would say, I would say, yeah, I mean we
do massive crowds here. We do a deal with diglad
White here, so this is the only place in Vegas
you can watch UFC.
Speaker 5 (29:29):
So we do we do, we do that.
Speaker 11 (29:31):
But I would say there's a certain electricity that comes
about out here during Super Bowls or during the first
week of March Badness. Some of these March Badness upsets,
when you're sitting in the water and you get these
upsets coming and the whole crowd just rars when there's
an upset, it's it's pretty awesome.
Speaker 2 (29:48):
Speak of the NFL. Rich, we'll be talking some quarterbacks
later on the show. Right, there's a list that's out
that's really controversial. We're going to talk about it on
the show.
Speaker 3 (29:56):
Nice Derek, We want to thank you, thank you so
much for hosting us here at Circa.
Speaker 1 (30:01):
Appreciate you, man.
Speaker 5 (30:02):
I'll tell you what you guys, Thank you very much.
Look at this crowd. You guys bring crowd. I love this.
It'll be bringing everybody out back good night.
Speaker 11 (30:10):
Oh yeah, wait, thanks very much, see you guys, See
you guys later out brother Evens.
Speaker 2 (30:14):
The owner of Circa Again, appreciate you. Stadium, Swim. We
got more Cadino and Rich to get to.
Speaker 8 (30:20):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Fox sports
Radio dot com and within the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (30:31):
We are live from Circa.
Speaker 2 (30:34):
Downtown most manus Stadium. Swim and Derek Stevens, the owner,
was not lying. This place is impressive. If you want
to watch a game and do things big. Can you
imagine march madness here? Rich, I hope this is the
first of many events. And if you're listening at work
(30:55):
at the office on your way home, you know we'll
do it again. You gotta come.
Speaker 5 (30:58):
What up?
Speaker 1 (30:59):
Iowa Sam?
Speaker 3 (31:00):
You guys, I wanted to ask because he's been to
a Cavino Rich event, but this is a party.
Speaker 1 (31:05):
I was saying, I feel like you're working the room.
You have a fun or what.
Speaker 2 (31:08):
I am having a great time, and I am working
in the room and I'm losing my voice, like pretty much.
Speaker 1 (31:12):
All you guys here.
Speaker 5 (31:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (31:13):
And he's running around so much. I think he's losing weight.
I am losing weight. I'm using water weight. You're yeah,
you're just sweating. I love having you, bro. This has
been fantastic and I am on the liquid diet right now.
So heait behind the scenes.
Speaker 2 (31:26):
For people that have been following Fox Sports Radio for years,
Iowa Sam's a party star, Monsey La Rena and of
course Danny G's holding it down. In the meantime, he's
here producing Cavino and Rich and back at the studio,
Jay stew and profet and thank you guys again for
hanging out with me. Now it's time, Rich, Yes, it
is time. It's time for the ti Iraq Play of
(31:47):
the Day. It was all Pacers last night. It was
all Pacers last night.
Speaker 11 (31:54):
Don't worry dem harts live to shoot, can't clear the
shot up top siakam beats the shot clock deliverers are three.
Speaker 4 (32:02):
Scams shop ready forficial, just waiting to receive that pass.
Speaker 1 (32:07):
Just beutiful execution, lets it go well.
Speaker 4 (32:09):
You can hardly be asked for a better performance, particularly
given the fact that if you didn't play well, your
season would have ended.
Speaker 5 (32:18):
MJB.
Speaker 11 (32:19):
This team, that's in case you didn't though, NBA Finals
Game seven and they still have an opportunity to win
a championship.
Speaker 5 (32:27):
How cool is that?
Speaker 3 (32:28):
Well, as Danny g and Dan Bayer said yesterday, Hey
we're gonna get a Game seven on Sunday. That's courtesy
the Pacers Radio Network, and that's our Tiract Play of
the Day. For over forty years, our friends at Tyrak
have been helping customers find the right tires for how,
what and where they drive.
Speaker 1 (32:42):
Ship fast and free back by.
Speaker 3 (32:43):
Free road hazard protection, convenient mobile tire installation options tirack
dot com, the way tire buying should be.
Speaker 2 (32:50):
Caliburton lifted the spirits, set the tone, and the Pacers dominated.
We have a game seven and we revolved Bennett, you
know Halliburton, you know, grabbing the old tuevos and saying
I'm playing. Even though they were able to use him
in a limited way, he looked good. It just showed
that he was in it to win it.
Speaker 3 (33:09):
And I think that message alone sent send the message
to the team and everyone that like the Pacers are
not They're not just Crawley, you know, like not laying down.
Speaker 1 (33:17):
Not letting us get away from then. You know what,
we have a lot of people on hold still Rich. Yeah,
let's do it.
Speaker 2 (33:21):
Let's get Jay stew back on the phone. Sky's eight
seven to seven ninety nine on Fox. Tony and Virginia,
Jesse and Indiana, Jay and Kentucky. Let's do Let's get
to the phone calls now the most interactive show on radio,
Live from Vegas. Do these new rivalries get you pumped up?
Can they surpass the old ones?
Speaker 5 (33:37):
What do you think?
Speaker 1 (33:37):
What's up? Tony in Virginia how are.
Speaker 6 (33:39):
You, bud, Hey, I'm well again, Thank you, fellas. Sometimes
the best rivalries are between cities. I was born and
raised in Baltimore and the Orioles wells to the Pirates
twice in the World Series. The Steelers knocked out the
colt in the seventies. That carried on to the Ravens
and Steelers, and I still think raven Steelers the best
rivalry in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (34:00):
That's a damn good rivalry. So yeah, sometimes it is
just the city and you end up hating a city
for that reason.
Speaker 1 (34:05):
For it, I love that, I do.
Speaker 2 (34:06):
I look, I don't like the ugly side of it
when you're just a fan trying to go to a game,
but when the teams don't like each other and.
Speaker 1 (34:13):
You know you don't have I love it. We live
in la now. I grew up in New York.
Speaker 3 (34:17):
Everything about Philadelphia is hateable to most right, right, I mean,
if you're a New Yorker, you like, call the Eagles off,
the Phillies off, the Flyers, oh, the Sixers.
Speaker 10 (34:26):
Like.
Speaker 3 (34:26):
Everything about Philadelphia to a New Yorker stinks and that's
the best part about it.
Speaker 1 (34:31):
Let's go to Jesse in Indiana. Jesse. You got to
be fired up, man. You get a game seven on
Sunday night.
Speaker 10 (34:37):
Oh yeah, it's great to be here in Indiana. And
mine kind of goes with the face because I got
two for you once. The Pacers, it's a new one
though we've seen it two years in a row. Pacers, Nick,
I mean name, I mean just the amount of aggression
you see between each of those teams is they're going
to try and play either in the finals like this year,
(34:58):
or to play the game and play the Celtic.
Speaker 1 (35:01):
You know, it's a good point.
Speaker 2 (35:03):
It's a double doozy because he kept Halliburton and the
Pacers kept that Pacers, Nick's I think by Haliburton, by
Halliburton paying tribute to Reggie Miller and doing the choke thing,
it was so hat.
Speaker 3 (35:13):
It was a way of doubling down on like, hey,
remember our rivalry, it's back.
Speaker 1 (35:17):
Remember that luckiest shot we've ever seen of all time. Yeah,
I think.
Speaker 2 (35:21):
Yeah, they're doing a great job of just stirring it up.
Great call, man, Thank you guys for hanging out with us.
We'll take more phone calls. Eight seven seven ninety nine
on Fox Now, we sort of referenced it before we're
gonna give away prizes, we're gonna play some games. But
I have a lame question to ask. Do you have
to coordinate with your buds when you're going to parties
(35:43):
or events?
Speaker 5 (35:43):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (35:43):
Because I wore a black tank top, thinking what's the
chances of Cavina wearing a black shirt. He's wearing a
black sleeper shirt. I'm wearing it look like like a
music But it has.
Speaker 2 (35:51):
Happened so often and so many times that it has
to be addressed, like as buds and boys, do you
have to ques? It sounds like it's a girl thing
or a woman thing, But do buddies have to coordinate
these things to not look like fools?
Speaker 1 (36:04):
We look like two fools right now. We're in the
same outfit.
Speaker 4 (36:08):
You guys are fine, It's not okay. You two look
like you're part of some show. It looks like advertised here.
Speaker 2 (36:16):
It looks like we coordinated that, and it's not at
all like you're about to dance on brocket.
Speaker 3 (36:21):
We we did a we did a speaking engagement for
iHeart in Chicago. We both showed up with a black
T shirt and like a green like jacket, same exact
I look I looked.
Speaker 1 (36:31):
At like, what are we doing?
Speaker 5 (36:32):
Company?
Speaker 2 (36:33):
Now, your thoughts let us know. Plus we got games
to play and we talk NFL live from Vegas, Live
from Circa Downtown and Ridge your next tank TI Everybody.
Speaker 10 (36:44):
Yeah,
