Speaker 1 (00:00):
Yo.
Speaker 2 (00:00):
It's Danny g executive producer of Covino and Rich. Thank
you for being down with us.
Speaker 3 (00:05):
There's never been a radio show more simpatica with me
ever than you guys.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
It was another fun week on the show. Enjoy some
of the greatest moments from the past few days, and.
Speaker 4 (00:21):
It's time for a tire rack play of the Day.
Thirty four year old JJ Spond made his Sam Dimas
High School in San Diego State, proud to win the
US Open at Oakmont, one of the hardest, if not
the hardest tests in major championship golf. For the win,
JJ Spond ball up and over the ridge. It's on
(00:42):
a very good line. This could go in J J
Spon makes sense. It's the biggest moment of his career.
Speaker 5 (00:48):
JJ Spon conquers oap fun and as you're one hundred
and twenty five US Open champion.
Speaker 4 (00:56):
I haven't seen a shot like that since Gilmour McGavin
in ninety for JJ spawn his first major championship as
courtesy of PGA Tour Radio. And that's our tire rack
play of the Day. And for over forty years, shoot
up ty Rack has been helping customers find the right
tires for how, what and where they drive. Ship Fast
and Free backed by free Road has a protection convenion
(01:16):
installation options like mobile tire installation, tirerack dot Com. The
way tire buying should be all right. So welcome back
to the show Gram program. In about ten minutes, we
welcome the guy who makes his triumphant return. Not show
hel TONI now Jehan, Carlos Stanton, Joey Chestnut, the superstar,
(01:38):
the Goat. He'll be here to tell us how it happened,
what to expect and more. But wrapping up this, Troy
Aikman thought of, we owe it to the fans to
get the calls right. With all the money trading hands
and all the gambling going on. You see this all
the time. When money it sponsors and powerful people get
(01:59):
involved a sudden, that's when things change. Yeah, and it
doesn't matter why the change was made, as long as
it's made right. I think people are also like, man,
we had the technology and the ability to get it
right for a minute now, but because because of gambling,
now we're gonna like try to enforce this. And again
(02:20):
this is just speculation from Troy Aikman, But yeah, who
cares if we get it as long as we get
it right. I think that we all just want it
to be right without wasting time, like the enbyer. Is
there a call that or a play in any sport
that you wish was reviewable, but you know that it
would be a slippery slope. I remember pass interference Danny
g where we realized, oh man, you could almost sort
(02:42):
of call pass inference on any play. I feel like
you can't challenge holding. I almost feel like if you
also challenged face mask, it has to be it has
to be a gregious like I think of like if
you grab someone's mask for a half a second, Like
is it really within reason? There's still human element invol
because the initial well in baseball for example, right, if
(03:03):
you if it's the evidence is not good enough to overturn,
then you stick with your original call. So it just
matters on what they called, then how it pans out,
and there's there is there enough evidence to overturn overturn it? Right,
So there's still a human element involved.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
Yeah, And speaking of money being involved, chet He texted
us he said, if a cashier gives you the wrong change,
you don't say that's the human element. You say it's
a mistake and you want it to be corrected. Yeah,
especially when it's your money on the line.
Speaker 4 (03:31):
Right, What if they give you too much change, Well,
that's different, and that's fine. You know. You just look
over your shoulders, make your No. One saw and you
walk away.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
All right.
Speaker 4 (03:41):
So I'm on teen Troy Aikman as far as getting
it right in the NFL and all sports. In fact,
I'm just looking at the All Star balloting so far
for baseball, your boy Paul Goldschmidt leading first baseman. I mean,
dudes having a season, having a season. He's a Hall
of Famer. You look at his numbers, you're like, damn.
And to prove my point earlier and dan byer than
(04:02):
the update said leading vote getter Aaron Judge. He really is,
he really is, you know. I mean, he had a
bad weekend, but he's another circus freak. Anything he hits,
he just throws. So enjoy your show, hey, return tonight.
Enjoy your NBA Game five now tonight. You know they
(04:23):
always say whoever wins Game five when it's tied to
two ed ze, you know, most likely winning the whole thing.
Do you think that's the case, Danny or do you
see this is just every day it's like back and forth.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
This has felt like a seven game series from the start.
Speaker 4 (04:35):
Okay, see he's almost double digit favorites at home game five.
This sentiment is all long. They should have been the team.
So if they win big tonight, I do wonder Ken
Ken Indiana go back for a game six and the
me that's been the pattern all round, right, So on that,
(04:56):
okase Tip, I just want to let people know that
over the weekend, aside from all those sports we were
watching and of course had to train your Dragon, which
was number one, I watched this show called Power Moves
with Shaquille O'Neal on Netflix, and Shaq is now the
president of Reebok, which he helped build. He helped build
(05:18):
that brand with Alan Iverson, who's now the VP, and
one of Shak's priority moves was to get SGA to
sign with Reebok, and you see the whole thing play
out where SGA re signs with Converse but sort of
blows off Shack a little bit respectfully.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
But yeah, it felt like they didn't have enough money, right.
Speaker 4 (05:36):
They didn't have enough money, so they pivot and they
start going after G League players like think Pate and
other guys like that. But if you want to see
behind the scenes, really cool because his mind was set
like SGA before he was MVP. SGA's the guy to
take this brand where it used to be with me. Cool.
But I don't think the average fan thinks about those
(05:58):
awkward situations. Meaning come, if you are a star player
picture it almost like, uh, you know on The Bachelor.
I know I'm making the lamest analogy, but it makes
total sense. You don't need to because you see Shack
go right up to SG. He's like, hey, man, I
mean we need to talk business after there, we need
to talk some business and you know it's an honor,
(06:20):
but he still has to sort of reject him politely
and he starts ghosting Shack a little bit.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
That's the vibib I'm saying.
Speaker 4 (06:26):
It's sort of like dating, like free agency and that
stuff like that is dating where you have to let
someone down. And I can'ly imagine if you're a free
agent and you've met with five teams and they're all
so confident like he's gonna come here. You have to
tell those four teams like, I'm sorry, You're just not
the one and SGA had to tell that to Shack
to Shack yeah and uh again. Really worth the watch.
(06:46):
It's a fun watch. It's called Power Moves on Netflix.
When you're done with all the great games tonight nice
While we are joined by Joey Chestnut, legendary hot dog
eater next hang type, he announced his return to the
Nathan's Hot Dog getting contest. Joey Chestnut, everybody here, he
is our guy. What's up, Joey?
Speaker 6 (07:08):
Good to see you guys again.
Speaker 4 (07:09):
Good to see you always. Man. Hell yeah, So huge announcement,
and that's why we brought you here. He's back sixteen
times Nathan's Hot Dog Eating champion, going for seventeen. He
holds an eight year winning street from seven to fourteen,
he holds the record with seventy six hot dogs and
what ten minutes. I look at all the championship belts
(07:29):
behind you. Joey, first of all, got to ask, well,
first of all, get to see you. Second of all,
how easy was this to get done? Because we talked
last year. It didn't end up the way we won.
Speaker 7 (07:39):
It absolutely didn't end the way we wanted to or
expect it. But it's it's been a little bit of work.
But it's yeah, we took some communicating and last year
communication broke down and we all kind of good things
don't happen when you're not talking.
Speaker 6 (07:55):
So this year, I think I saw you right around
in the Super Bowl. Yeah.
Speaker 7 (07:59):
Yeah, it's uh man, it's like almost immediately after that
we started really talking.
Speaker 6 (08:05):
And uh.
Speaker 7 (08:06):
It just took a while to get for them to
be comfortable with the things that that I that were
bothering last year and for me to uh, you know,
we had to meet in the middle.
Speaker 4 (08:16):
What was the hurdle, man? What was the issue that
you guys had to overcome there?
Speaker 7 (08:20):
There was there was that issue with the with the
plant plant based food. Uh, so they we would up
making a deal where you know what, I can still
do meatless mondays uh and and promote another brand.
Speaker 6 (08:33):
But I'm I'm gonna be I've always been.
Speaker 7 (08:37):
Uh dude, Nathan's hot dogs are one percent the only
hot dogs I was promoting, So there's not gonna be
any confusion. I'm not gonna work with I never wanted
to eat plant based hot dogs on the fourth of July.
So there's we were just clarified some things and we
uh yeah, I'm gonna.
Speaker 6 (08:55):
I'm back.
Speaker 4 (08:55):
Well, the competition. Yeah, he's so back. The competition needs you.
Last year, Patrick BERTOLLETTI won in your absence. Is he
any threat this year? I think he had about fifty
eight last year. Any threat to you? And what's your
view on him?
Speaker 6 (09:10):
Oh, he's a good guy from Chicago.
Speaker 7 (09:13):
I've known him since. Man, he's just turned forty. I'm
forty one, so we've known each other three years. But
my biggest competitor is some crazy guy and he's.
Speaker 6 (09:23):
Uh, it's me.
Speaker 7 (09:25):
If I get in my own head make mistakes, it's uh.
But if I if I'm doing everything right, I can,
I'm going to annihilate everybody.
Speaker 6 (09:35):
Man, it's gonna be. It's gonna be.
Speaker 4 (09:36):
Yeah, Gonna. He's a good guy, but you're gonna annihilate
beautiful chaos by the ways he You gotta imagine. Is
Patrick mad that you're coming back.
Speaker 6 (09:44):
No, we're competitive eaters.
Speaker 7 (09:46):
We if we're getting on a big stage, we want
to compete against the best.
Speaker 6 (09:51):
And so he felt like he did win. He earned
that win. He got a personal best last year. But
he wants he wants to compete against.
Speaker 7 (09:59):
Me, and uh, he's not mad at all. Where We're
going to be pushing each other hard.
Speaker 4 (10:06):
Joey Chestnut here on Cavino on Rich Fox Sports Radio. Joey,
you're allowed to brag if it's true. So let me
ask you. Are you more important to hot dog eating
than Kaitlyn Clark is to the w n b A,
because when when big stars aren't part of it, it
seems to like you saw the w n b A
ratings attendance when she was out for a few weeks.
(10:27):
Joey CHESTNUTT, what do you think Caitlyn Clark?
Speaker 6 (10:30):
Have you have you met her? She is amazing? Dude?
I'm I'm yeah, I'm nothing better to her.
Speaker 7 (10:37):
She she really is amazing. And then I'm not bigger
than hot dogs. People were still eating hot dogs on
fourth of July. I was eating hot dogs last year
even though I was in a Coney Island, But uh,
you know this is this is Nathan's hot.
Speaker 6 (10:50):
Dogs for the July. I'm I'm happy to be back, Joey.
Speaker 4 (10:53):
Where do you Where do you meet Kaitlyn Clark? How
does that happen? Like a conference of the goats? Like
what's going on? Where do you interact Clark?
Speaker 7 (11:00):
At a mileinggue baseball game in Indiana and she was.
She was there too, and the people from the stadium said, hey,
she's in the sweet next to you. You want to
go say him like she's She's absolutely, she's amazing, She's
the best.
Speaker 4 (11:10):
I like the other story better. It's you, Caitlyn. You're
in the room, Michael Jordan, Mike Tyson, you know, all
the goats take it out, just hanging out as a
goat conference. I like that story. What's a bigger comeback again?
The headline I'm back? I think I heard Jordan's say that, right, Yeah,
I believe. But Joey Chestnut has also said he's back.
So what's the bigger comeback or headline tonight? Your comeback,
(11:34):
Shoe Hayes comeback Stanton or NBA Game five?
Speaker 2 (11:38):
Because you're all over the news today.
Speaker 6 (11:40):
You know what tonight, I'm going for the comeback. I want,
I want.
Speaker 7 (11:43):
I want the Pacers to get the win tonight. That
would be pretty awesome. Uh, this is this was bound
to happen. I'm just happy we did it and now
now I just got to eat some hot dogs.
Speaker 4 (11:53):
Yeah, Joey, I'm not even bs and you is there
is there a party of that feels like in a
country where everyone's at odds politically, everyone argues, is there
something about you being back that everyone could be like
that's awesome? Like do you realize that there is probably
a part of that that everyone's sort of pumped about.
It sounds ridiculous, but I feel that it's weird.
Speaker 7 (12:12):
Yeah, I know hot dogs. I don't know politics, but
it definitely feels like the people who followed me are
from every corner of America, and I'm very happy.
Speaker 4 (12:24):
Well, yeah, there's nothing more every Yeah, and you're the
face of it. And to back Rich's point last year,
not to take anything away from what Patrick did last year,
but it just wasn't the same. There was a void
there and it didn't unite people the way it normally does.
I didn't hear much of a buzz about it other
than did you hear who won? Because Joey wasn't there?
(12:45):
And I say that respectfully. So I think it does
bring some fun excitement where the country needs it to
be honest.
Speaker 7 (12:53):
Yeah, Pat, I think if there's something on TV and
it's a sport, people want to see the best in
the world.
Speaker 6 (12:58):
And I and Pat's awesome. But on the fourth of
July celebrating America.
Speaker 7 (13:04):
We want to see somebody go for a record, and
I'm going to be doing it.
Speaker 4 (13:09):
I have a listener question from Mercer in Pittsburgh, says,
the first time Joey Chestnut got to Cony Island, he
ate thirty two hot dogs? Is that a fact? So
you went from thirty two to what seventy six?
Speaker 6 (13:20):
Yeah, that's an absolute fact. That year.
Speaker 7 (13:23):
I remember my first practice that year, I only did
sixteen in practice. So it's just slowly building my tolerance
and just making my body get comfortable being uncomfortable.
Speaker 6 (13:35):
And that's the way I push it.
Speaker 4 (13:37):
He says, as an aspiring eater who ate seventeen and
a half in his first try, I'd like to know
how exciting it is to get the call to be
able to compete the first time, and how it compares
to being asked to come back again.
Speaker 6 (13:50):
Oh, it's amazing, it's you know.
Speaker 7 (13:53):
The first time I went to Coney Island, I was
literally a table ender that we call them the table enders,
the people who.
Speaker 6 (14:00):
Have the lowest qualifiers, and I I was so nervous.
I went there. I was wearing Levi's. I didn't give
it that much thought.
Speaker 7 (14:10):
At the time, but now it's uh, it's it's a
it's an amazing stage on the.
Speaker 6 (14:15):
Fourth of July.
Speaker 4 (14:16):
So a table ender is like the weak link of
the table. Is that what that is? Kind of? I mean,
you made it, but you're sort of the weakest guy.
So that would be me when we're out to dinner
and I order a steak well done, right, Rich? Yeah, Yeah,
that's like a debate with the people that don't have
a chance are always like the ends.
Speaker 8 (14:32):
You know.
Speaker 7 (14:32):
It's sort of like that, either the table enders or
we call it the kitty table right kids.
Speaker 4 (14:39):
Right, I gotta ask Joey Chestnut hanging out on Kavino Rich,
He's back fourth of July. Nothing more American than hot
dogs with Joey Chestnuts. It's a big story.
Speaker 2 (14:47):
Today.
Speaker 4 (14:47):
I saw one of our one of our pals on
the Dan Patrick Show, one of the behind the scenes guys,
did that nine to nine to nine challenge at a
ball game? Is that amateur? Do you think that's awesome
that people are trying to do nine hot dogs, nine
b in nine innings? What what's your take on that?
Speaker 6 (15:02):
It's amazing. I've been doing it.
Speaker 7 (15:04):
I came close to doing a twenty twenty seven, twenty seven,
and nine. But god, yeah, nine is a it's I
think most real adults can do them and do it. Yeah,
it's definitely do especially these days. They'll serve the beers
and cans. It's not even full pints, so it's definitely doable.
Speaker 4 (15:24):
Now, before we get your prediction, Joey Chestnut, we've heard
the rumors or maybe a scientific fact. I don't know
that you lose so at thirty minutes of life for
every hot dog. Have you ever thought about that? Is
there any truth to that? Because you've been eating, you've
been taking back a lot for years now.
Speaker 7 (15:41):
It wasn't thirty minutes. I think somebody said it was
like maybe two minutes, and so if you calculate, I've
ran the numbers, may and maybe it's like five years
I've taken off, you know.
Speaker 4 (15:50):
But for the glory, A good time, not a long time.
All right, Hey, I like it, Hey, Joey, As people
get ready for the fourth in a couple of weeks,
is throwing hot dogs on the barbecue on the grill
the best way? Or you a boiled hot dog guy?
If you had to pick your preference.
Speaker 6 (16:05):
Is this a joke? Really.
Speaker 2 (16:07):
I mean I got to ask the great come on.
Speaker 6 (16:09):
Dude, boiled hot dogs they're almost criminal. It's uh. And
you know so for a long long time ago, I.
Speaker 7 (16:16):
Was I was given in Costco hard time about there
their hot dogs and say, actually, we.
Speaker 6 (16:20):
Don't boil and we steam them. So it boiling is
even worse than steaming. It's it's uh but yeah, it's
uh dude.
Speaker 7 (16:28):
Yeah, you got to be on a grill, either flat
top or griddle or grill.
Speaker 6 (16:32):
It's a dude. Yeah, you gotta get he has to get.
Speaker 7 (16:36):
That direct heat to get the fat and the juices flowing.
Speaker 6 (16:39):
And it's a that's the way.
Speaker 4 (16:40):
Joey, when you're not competitively eating, What is the proper
way to have a dog on the fourth? What do
you put on a ketchup mustard? Relish onions? Like? What's
those New York City red onions? Like what does Joey
Chestnut do if he's wanting to eat a hot dog
for actual enjoyment?
Speaker 6 (16:55):
Oh my god, I'm not married to one topping.
Speaker 7 (16:58):
Uh, so I get to go where my heart desires.
But mostly if raw onions and mustard, a good Deli mustard,
that's that's an easy.
Speaker 6 (17:07):
Go to, but I'll mess around. I love a good
chili cheese dog.
Speaker 7 (17:11):
I was somewhere I had a good Chicago dog recently,
so it was just put.
Speaker 6 (17:17):
Everything on there.
Speaker 4 (17:17):
What's your thoughts on the what's your thoughts on the
corn dog? I don't think we ever. Did you like
a corn dog or no?
Speaker 6 (17:23):
Well, corn dog it's trouble.
Speaker 7 (17:24):
I've had some experiences where you bite into a corn
dog and it's like hot.
Speaker 6 (17:28):
It ruins my mouth for like two days.
Speaker 7 (17:30):
So sometimes it's a it's very I've never burnt my
mouth on a hot dog, but corn dog can be
troubled in the deep fryar.
Speaker 4 (17:38):
It's like a hot pocket. Could it could deceive you
like a hot pocket in college? Right?
Speaker 7 (17:42):
Yeah, it could be the magma inside there.
Speaker 2 (17:44):
Hey, what's the aftermath?
Speaker 8 (17:46):
Like?
Speaker 4 (17:46):
I'm not talking bathroom antics, I'm talking recovery. What's it
like the day after a major competition like this, Because
you're putting your body through a lot, there's a lot
of pressure. This is your big return. How long does
it take for your body to get back to normal
after this?
Speaker 7 (18:00):
It's uh, it takes two days to start feeling good,
and it can the day after.
Speaker 6 (18:06):
It can be really bad if I got dehydrated.
Speaker 7 (18:08):
Uh, it's so the weather in Cony on Coney Island,
fourth of July, it's it's sometimes oppressive eating humidity. So
those are the times where I go in and knowing
that it's gonna take longer to recover.
Speaker 4 (18:19):
When you say bad though, like you bed, it's like
a day in bed. You're just laying there.
Speaker 6 (18:23):
I'm lethargic. Yeah, I'm I'm more bloated.
Speaker 7 (18:26):
I'm trying to take in more liquids and it's just
I'm getting more bloated. Even though it's a yeah, it's
just hard. It's it's harder on the body when when
when I'm at all dehydrated.
Speaker 6 (18:36):
So, but I've learned my body look better.
Speaker 7 (18:38):
But it's if once I get get moving, I start sweating,
smell like a hot dog. It's the meat sweat start
coming and I, uh, it takes. It takes a good
two days. You feel close to normal.
Speaker 4 (18:50):
But speaking of your body and recovery, do you have
ring rust? I know you missed the year, but you
never stop competing. I know that's your lifestyle. I know
it's what you do and you eat also sorts of
things competitively. But I love how your ring Russ comparing
him to a fighter. Are you ready, man, it's the
body ready? Are you ready? And what's your prediction? How
do you see this pan and out? Fourth July weekend?
Speaker 7 (19:11):
When you said ring Russ, my My Brett and the
Gears returning, I was like, where is he going with?
Speaker 4 (19:16):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (19:20):
This is Uh. I've been really lucky. I did a
couple of contests already this year. I made a new
world record with.
Speaker 7 (19:25):
Boloney and Uh in Knoxville, Tennessee. So I'm not annihilated
my old record. So I'm my body's ready. I'm uh,
I feel good. It's gonna be Uh, just gotta yeah,
Like I said, just eat some hot dogs.
Speaker 6 (19:38):
Find my happy place.
Speaker 4 (19:39):
I don't know. I may have eaten more Bolooney than
Jony and then Joey at my grandmother's house in the eighties. Yeah,
bloy and catching sandwiches every day. Joey continued success. I'm
glad you're back. We're happy that you're back. And UH
always appreciate you giving Coveno Rich some time. Brother, appreciate
you man, great talking to you guys again. Thank you,
Joey Chesnut big return. It's not show Tony. When you
(20:00):
think about what brings Americans in America together, it's Joey Chestnut.
Speaker 2 (20:05):
Fourth of July.
Speaker 4 (20:06):
My prediction Patrick BERTOLETTI never heard of him, but Joey
Chestnut's back by give me this. What's what's you're not
over under? What's your point? What's your dog spread? Whoa
if you're what your what's your dog spread? How many
does he beat? Second place? Play well Joey. Joey's record
is seventy six. Patrick won last year with fifty eight.
(20:29):
I think both guys improve. I think Joey breaks his
own record. You heard the guy he says, the only
one I'm competing with is myself. They're not looking over
to see what the competition's doing. They're trying to beat
their own personal records and do the best that they can.
So my prediction is pain and Joey breaks it by
one dog seventy seven to Bertiletti's sixty. I think Blett
(20:53):
really pushes he gets sixty this year, Joey beats him
by seventeen. I think Chestnut brings it, but he's not
going for his own record. I think he's going to
ease his way back in. But weird he's trying to
make a statement. Bro, this is his big comeback. I'm
gonna compare it to tonight's the NBA Game five. Okase,
he is favored by nine and a half, So I'm
gonna set the hot dog spread at nine and a half.
Does Joey Chestnut beat second place by ten dogs in
(21:15):
two weeks?
Speaker 2 (21:16):
You just said hot dogs? I'm saying yes, Yeah, he
said hot dogs. Brandy, Yes, your dog spread.
Speaker 8 (21:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (21:23):
I'm you know, I'm kind of with Rich. I feel
like he's gonna have to ease his way back in.
I don't think he'll beat his personal record until the
next fourth of July.
Speaker 4 (21:32):
Okay, Like you know, one year off, he's little, he's
not the same. But you know what, Rich, it's like
Michael Jordan coming back. I got to ask you this,
it's a lot like Michael Jordan comeback. We're having fun
with it because Joey's a great guy and it really
is something so American. Fourth of July Joey Chestnut, Jenny
islands like when he wasn't doing it, it did feel
sort of whack like Ethie. It did, but boiled hot dogs?
Speaker 2 (21:55):
Are you kidding me?
Speaker 4 (21:56):
I agree? You would choose a boiled hot dog over
real hot dog. Hey ask clown, I like to throw
them on the grill. But how many times have you
made hot dogs? Or your kids and your mom or
someone throwing a bug?
Speaker 9 (22:06):
Who was?
Speaker 7 (22:07):
What that?
Speaker 4 (22:07):
Would you like? Uh? Do you like boiled Russell's mouth
Russell sprout, No, I do not, That's what I mean.
But Danny g you're tell me as a kid, you
didn't have boiled hot dogs, and then we all did.
But it does mean you get the grill every time.
Speaker 2 (22:20):
Sure, no, Sure was different than a family grill because
that's when you were like, this is what hot dogs
are supposed to be like. And the Dodger Dog famously
at Dodger Stadium. One of the reasons why it went
downhill a little bit is they started boiling some of
them rather than grilling all of them.
Speaker 4 (22:35):
Kid, you know what about when you go to New
York City you got a great hot dog, Like Rob
Parker would say, you get that the red onions on
the hot dog, and that's a boiled New York City
hot dog? What up? Sam?
Speaker 2 (22:46):
All right? Get this guys.
Speaker 9 (22:47):
So next year is America's two hundred and fiftieth anniversary
seventeen seventy six to twenty twenty six. His record is
what seventy six hot dogs?
Speaker 2 (22:56):
Yeah, it'll be.
Speaker 9 (22:57):
The fourth of July, the two hundred and fiftieth anniversary
of America. Next year, what if he breaks that record
of seventy six on America's two hundred and fiftieth birthday.
Speaker 4 (23:05):
So maybe he won't break his own record, he can
still win it without breaking purposely to bring the heat
next year.
Speaker 9 (23:11):
I'm seeing a lot of synergy here. I'm saying a
lot of things sinking up.
Speaker 4 (23:14):
I feel you. Darren Waller decided to retire after the
New York Football Giants made him play full back against
the Bills. He was a tight end. He's like, what
am I doing playing full back? And it sort of
ties into Raphael Dever saying, Yo, I'm a veteran, the
(23:35):
star of the team, and you're asking me to play
first base. I don't want to. And because of LA resistants,
when player retires, this guy gets traded and today they
introduce him as a San Francisco Giant. But you know
your thoughts on people saying no, I'm not comfortable with this,
(23:56):
the change of scenery, the change of position. Well, what
do we learned over the ya ry baby, you're not
everything you say yes to means you're saying no to
something else. So by saying yes to that, he's saying
no to doing what he really wants, and that's play infield.
All right, Bruno, real quick, you got thirty seconds. What's up, Brooklyn.
Speaker 3 (24:13):
Boys, I'll make it fast. Hey, listen, I just I
never I rarely side with the player, but I got
to say, toughest, toughest position of the hottest position besides
the catcher on that deal. That's he's the most action
is first base, and if you're not comfortable there, it's
not good. And I think he was okay, not wanting
to do it, but because of the value of a
player he is, they should have made some sort of
amends for him to move off on to you know,
(24:36):
a different position, or keep his Carr position. But I'll
side with him like that.
Speaker 1 (24:39):
Man.
Speaker 4 (24:40):
He meant a lot to the fans, to the team,
and look, I'm glad as the Yankees fan that he's gone. Danny.
Don't look now, the team two games behind the Dodgers
in the NL West, now got Rafael Dever's in that lineup.
So the giants looking a lot better. I had something
I wanted to ask you real quick. Sure you ever
(25:01):
see a hack on social media? And you're like, how
have I never thought of that before?
Speaker 6 (25:04):
Like?
Speaker 4 (25:05):
What? Well? You just said, like our boy Sean Umstein,
what no way? I have sakes you brought up out?
You know, this is the official kickoff of summer this week,
a lot of people having their cookouts and barbecues, and
what you said, no way? Like you can't believe there's
an easier way to do something you've done your whole life,
or something that your feeling is, how have I never
(25:27):
done this before? Well, give me your hack? Someone said,
instead of ice cubes, why don't you just freeze the
cocktail you have so that you never have a watered
down drink. Freeze free on a slushy sort of old fashion.
(25:50):
What I'm saying, freeze your mixers. I know certain alcohols
can't be frozen, but freeze your mixers free so instead
of having a water down drink, like someone said, ice
tea should never be water down, just put an ice
cube tray full of ice tea.
Speaker 2 (26:04):
Wait but then okay, so, or you can do lemonade.
Speaker 4 (26:07):
And slowly make an arnold palm, because.
Speaker 2 (26:10):
If you're you can't freeze an individual drink because.
Speaker 4 (26:13):
No, you're missing I get what if I poured you
a glass of ice tea and I threw two lemonade
ice cubes in there, But they're not water. It's it's lemonade.
It's just not watering down the pit.
Speaker 9 (26:26):
It's not going to fill up the glass when it melts,
and you're not gonna get any liquid out of it
for like half an hour. You can do it on
the hot sun. You do lemonade shots. It doesn't make
any That doesn't make sense.
Speaker 4 (26:35):
I'm just saying, why not make ice cubes instead of water?
You know what, Richards lots of great hacks. I'm not
sure If that's one of.
Speaker 10 (26:42):
Them, I will screw you fine. You know, you know
I go back and throwing word. Ah, it's a good hack. Now,
you always a good gene hack man finds.
Speaker 2 (26:54):
A good hack.
Speaker 4 (26:54):
Well, can I can I tell you something else? I
wanted to point out. You said it's summertime and so
many people are going to their kidsall game summertime activities,
summertime activities, summertime activities. You go to the beach, you're
at the park, and what do you always see the
guy going around with the little ice cream truck with
his little bell he'll be pushing on the cart or
the actual ice cream man. Is it about time that
(27:18):
if someone doesn't have Zell, you forgot the fruit guy
out here on the west side, or of course the
fruit with the taheen. Oh yeah, they call me Tahino Covino.
If you don't have the ability to pay by Zell,
Venmo or Apple pay or tap, like, do you realize
how much money you're leaving on the table? Like like
if you bump into someone selling ice cream at the
(27:40):
beach or at the park without those options, is that
the worst business person of all time? You? If I
was a homo or if I was a stripper, I'd
have a QR code tattooed on my ass.
Speaker 2 (27:50):
Oh that was another idea.
Speaker 4 (27:50):
See that was the hack with the hack was if
you're a stripper, you should have a QR code on
your inner thigh.
Speaker 2 (27:56):
Take you right to my Venmo, make it easy.
Speaker 4 (27:59):
So anyway, rich, I think you alweys a hack after that?
You know, I don't think of on for next time.
And let's talk spectacles here on the show. When I
say spectacles. I'll say it again, not talking Chris Sabo,
Who's still my standard answer since the Little League of
guys that wear glasses in sports and baseball, I thought
Kurt Rambis would be high on that list of You know,
(28:20):
I can't think of any who would be a current
day answer. A current day I think every time to Calvy.
I think at this point everyone wears some type of
contact lens or you wouln't even know if they were glass.
Is there a current athlete that wears glasses.
Speaker 2 (28:36):
Or goggles prescription goggles.
Speaker 4 (28:38):
I can't think of anybody man a generation without a
four eyes player. It's a shame they get all I'm
sure there's reasons for moving away from him because they get.
Speaker 2 (28:49):
All steamed up.
Speaker 4 (28:50):
Horaus grant, you have to go back. I can't think
of anybody. So when I say spectacles, I mean Jake
Paul type of events like silly sporting events now rich.
If you really think about it, there's a huge opportunity here,
even as a broadcaster. I don't really want to think
(29:11):
about it because you want to think about ice cubes. No,
but there's I mean Sam sort of shot you down.
If you really want to be honest, Sam was like,
you know what, I don't like this idea. Sam was like, no.
In other words, you know what, now I think about it,
Now that's dumb. If you were into covering sports, you
might want to look into the avenue of banana ball
(29:33):
and Jake Paul fights. I mean, we talk about this
stuff because we don't take ourselves that serious. We have fun.
Sports is fun. But you're really starting to see a trend.
You're starting to see a movement of where sports is
headed because there's room for both. And when I say
there's room for both, meaning there's room for sports that
matter and sports that are really just there for fun.
(29:54):
The spectacle that we're talking about, because today the Tyreek
Hill race was canceled. Olympic gold medal winner sprinter Noah
Lyles was supposed to race Tyreek Hill, but no Alliles canceled.
Speaker 2 (30:09):
To be the highlight of our summer.
Speaker 4 (30:11):
Yeah, but seriously, there's some fun in that and it's
not even high profile meames like that. We talked about
this last year when they planned it. Remember, yeah, no
Alliles and Tyreek Hill canceled the race. But just this
past weekend. He's a social media influencer, but he sort
of went viral. Remember that guy, Ashton Hall, his morning routine,
Morning Routine Guy, Routine guy. Yeah, banana peals on his
(30:34):
face and race a very popular streamer by the name
of ICE Show Speed. But dude, you would say, well,
that's sort of dumb. Who cares about those guys? That
was everywhere over the weekend. Ashton Hall lost, he fell,
and this I Show Speed streamer guy sort of smoked him.
(30:55):
But it got so popular, got so viral that even
tyreek Hill went viral talking about it, saying, you know,
they both look slow to me. I'll smoke both of
these guys. And then we start getting intrigued. And then
what else happened over the weekend? The Big Three fight
between Lance Stevenson and Dwight Howard. Yo, dude, that looked
like a serious, heated matchup. Did you see Michael Beasley
(31:17):
in the face of Dwyighton Howard? Dude? That was intense. So,
of course we care about what's going on in the
NBA and the finals, but.
Speaker 2 (31:28):
There's still room for Big Three. There's still room for this.
Speaker 4 (31:31):
How about that Lance Stevenson Beasley one on one tournament
that happened a pay per view event just two weeks
ago that got a lot of social media coverage. You're
talking to me, yeah, you're talking to me. Yeah. But
I think a lot of people, as Rob Parker would say,
pooh pooh with these things, when honestly, there's a giant
market for this stuff, and I feel like you're sleeping
on it because there's a lot of people in the
(31:51):
word of the social media and younger people that really
like and enjoy this stuff because it's not that serious.
Buddy boy, I've been on since the days of Maywet McGregor,
since we have kids and it was what is it,
the Battle of the Network Stars. I've always loved the spectacle,
the spectacle and you know, you could have called me
immature for it, or you like real sports, Danny. I've
(32:13):
always felt like these things are entertaining. They never replace
keep this mind, they never replace real sports for me.
But I don't see why you wouldn't find interest in
Tyreek Hill. I think racing a gold medalist because in
my mind that's fun as well. No, I think real
sports Brian Gumbel style. I think real sports needs to
take some notes as to why these things are blowing
up and why they're even garnering any interest. Like, I
(32:35):
think MLB needs to look at banana ball a little bit.
I'm not saying they need to clown it up, but
there's something there as far as entertainment factor. I think
the NBA needs to say, you know what, man our
All Star break is a little weak. We're making moves,
we're making changes, but maybe the one on one stuff
is dope with the right players.
Speaker 2 (32:53):
Because there's a lot of buzz around this stuff, and
you guys have talked a lot about the Savannah bananas
this season, and also it's why we all care about
the Nathan's hot dog eating contests. Just had Joey chessnut
on yesterday. It's a spectacle.
Speaker 4 (33:06):
Anything and there's a growing market for that because you
know what, rich is like mindless fun but yet still sport.
It's just like you could be at the cookout and
have this goofy stuff on. You can have company over,
still have this on, not be glued to it. You're
not surrounding your whole event around. It's just this background
fun to watch. And again it's not as serious as
regular sports. I told you last weekend, there's no banana
(33:29):
ball is expanding. There's four teams. There's supposed to be
six different Banana Ball teams in the next few years.
And the thing is, unlike the Globetrotters, who I was saying,
I trivia for you, buddy, who did the Globetrotters beat
up every time the Washington Generals bamn? Do you remember?
The whole point was any other brain bust? Remember? Every
time they would just whoop them and that was it.
(33:51):
I mean, what was the rumor that one time the
Generals won?
Speaker 6 (33:53):
Right?
Speaker 4 (33:53):
I don't think it was. I think they did. I
think they beat them once once. The thing about Banana Ball,
and again this is no commercial not giving us anything.
I find it entertaining in that it's not just the
Savannah Bananas that are entertaining.
Speaker 2 (34:06):
Like not you rich.
Speaker 4 (34:07):
There's millions and millions of people on a wait list
to get in, and there's college stadiums all over the
country that are trying to get their bid on the
Hey come play here. All this money is just popular
tick money to be made. And I was gonna say,
the other teams, like the Party Animals, and you know,
the people that play the Bananas aren't just chumps that
they beat like that if that of bananas don't win
(34:28):
every game and they're not the only ones doing these
tricks and silly things. And we talked about this a
couple of weeks ago, so let me let me pull
this back for a second. Remember we had that conversation,
would you rather be on the Colorado Rockies or be
a Savannah Banana if money didn't matter? Yeah, And I
think we all agree being in the big leagues is
just such an honor. It doesn't matter if you're on
the worst team in history, the Rockies. It's still the
(34:49):
big I gain it, I get it. But we were
seeing the salaries of a Savannah Banana. Is it close
to one hundred thousand dollars? Danny, would you agree that
if that number goes from nine need to one hundred
thousand dollars to maybe three to five hundred thousand dollars,
all of a sudden, the interest level of some of
these young ballplayers might be like, you know what, I
don't think I'm good enough to make the bigs, But
(35:10):
if I start learning some trick plays, eh, definitely changes
people's thoughts on it. It's a great existence. You're having
fun touring. Women love you, kids love your families, You're
going to see you. It's a great second option if
you're not good enough for the big leagues. And you
could flip around and stuff, But if you really pause
for a second, I could see what's happening. There is
(35:33):
such a growing market, you know. Just this week, Jake
Paul said something that there might be some truth to.
He said, I'm the best thing for boxing since Muhammad Ali.
And it sounds outrageous, but people tune in. There's a
huge growing market for it. He's fighting Chavez Junior, not
this weekend, the next weekend, the weekend of the twenty eighth.
(35:56):
And guess what we're all quick to be like, who cares?
Everybody's tuning in for whatever reason because it's fun and
there's room for that. And that's why there's room for
goofballs like us on the radio. To be honest, you
got twenty three hours of serious sports talk radio. I
think you guys could have some fun for two hours
(36:17):
where we do appreciate our sports, but we're goofing around
having fun at the same times. Funny is that you
just put twenty five hours in the day. Did I
Did I say that was the joke? You get it. Yeah,
let's talk about ice cubes again, you moron.
Speaker 2 (36:30):
The Extra Hour. The Extra Hour is our best of podcast.
Speaker 4 (36:33):
Yeah that's what yeah.
Speaker 2 (36:37):
Saying about eight days a week, eight days a week.
Speaker 4 (36:39):
I love you a genius. Let's put it in an
extra work. I don't know about you know, but what
Kamino said, I want to adjust what Jake Paul said
by so much of this. I actually want to adjust
Jake Paul's quote and then believe it. If he said
he's the best thing that happened a boxing since Mike Tyson,
Muhammad Ali. No, no, he said a Lee. I'm saying
if he adjusted it because Tyson brought so many eyes
in the eighties and he revolutionized like you know, fight
(37:02):
nights and pay per views where it's like, oh my god,
Tyson's gonna knock him out right away. I really do
think spectacle wise and must watch. I've never had friends
be like we go to get together for the Clitch
go fight. I never had a friend say yo, Anthony
Joshua must see. Mayweather was a defensive fighter. He was great,
but he wasn't knocking people out. Have to be a
(37:25):
hardcore fan, you have to, you know, you have to
follow the sport. This stuff is just fun and there's
room for that, and I think we need to be
a little more open to the fun and and talk
about it, because I'm telling you what, you know what,
a lot of people slept on and we did mention
it here that one on one pay per view with
Stevenson and Beasley. There was something to that. Man, it
was a lot of emotion involved. These guys still have game,
(37:48):
Danny g. As you were pointing out, you don't want
to see if Dwight Howard still has game and you're
seeing them fighting, there's a lot of intensity.
Speaker 2 (37:55):
D We had heard Howard for so many months say, Lakers,
I'm right here, big guy, come get me. I can
still play, and he and some other older players are
proving that.
Speaker 4 (38:05):
Imagine back in the day too. I mean we could
still get that now, but imagine back in the day
if we were able to see a pay per view
event between a retired Jordan and somebody else, that would
be there's something there, Listen. I'm not trying to downplay
our love of mainstream real sports right hell, but it's growing,
whether you like it or not. But I do think
(38:27):
a lot of old heads and a lot of people
that are sports fans are quick to, as you said,
pooh pooh the spectacle, which I think there's room for both. Again,
why can't you love the NFL, Major League Baseball, the
NBA College football? Wife like, why can't you love that?
Speaker 2 (38:45):
Because it's like cool to like put a thumb down
to things that are kind of gimmicky.
Speaker 4 (38:50):
Yeah, I guess so. But I think you're allowed to
love all the things I said and also watch it.
You don't have to take a serious you could do that.
It's not meant to be. You could love all the
things I just said, NBA, NFL, Major League Baseball, but
still say, oh, I want to watch Jake Paul fight
and watch the Savannah Bananas. Why can't you like all
that stuff? Do you agree or disagree? Do you feel
what we're saying at all eight seven seven ninety nine
(39:12):
on Fox? And the reason we talk about this is
because if you follow social media trends, you're seeing just
as much banana ball highlights as you are. Oh Tani
on the mound. All day, I was seeing that this
Tyreek Hill race was canceled. I'm like, oh, that would
have been cool to see how Tyreek Hill squared up
against Noah Lyles.
Speaker 2 (39:30):
Oh, but it's canceled.
Speaker 4 (39:32):
And then again, like we said, all the other side stuff,
these big threes and all the highlights we're seeing. You
can't help but notice that there's definitely a trend in
the popularity of at least these clips. We're not seeing
it on TV, but on social media, you're seeing it everywhere.
I got a question for you, Yeah, do you think
hear me out on this one? If Tyreek Hill did
(39:55):
fight no fight, if he did race Noah Lyles, I
think he gonna smoke them. I do. If Tyreek Hill wins,
does that throw everyone mentally for a loop that our
fastest football player beat the fastest guy in the Olympics?
Is that I don't think it really you don't think
it's any shade of Noel Lyles. Again, he he can't
take away his gold medals, right he has? I think
(40:16):
multiple gold medals as a sprint. Doesn't that make you
think that I only wanted because guys like Tyreek Hill
didn't want to participate. I think it just elevates guys
like Tyreek Hill as like, Wow, he's that exceptional man,
he's that fast. I really think it just puts him on.
Speaker 2 (40:34):
A higher echelon of speed.
Speaker 4 (40:40):
He oh, he has one gold one Carelyles again gold
medal sprinter. That race was canceled. So just got us
thinking about these spectacles we look forward to, because you know,
I'm looking forward to that Jake Paul Chavis junior fight.
I know it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of
things as as a fight fan, but I still find
enjoyment in that stuff. Stupid but stupid fun. I feel
(41:02):
you based on everything we saw yesterday. Yeah, Otani got
hit by a pitch, Caitlin Clark's being tossed around. You
got to protect the superstars. This question one, But is
it bad for the league? Or is drama great for
the league? Let's be real for us, that's the hole.
It's great for any league, but especially the WNBA. That's
(41:23):
the whole center point of most reality television drama and nonsense.
And people could say they don't like drama and nonsense, dude,
but they do the only time anyone at the barbershop
paid attention to the doubt. And I'm not coming from
a negative or sexist place. I'm just telling you based
on what I saw. I was at the barbershop. See
the sweet trim up I got. The only time everybody
(41:44):
stopped to watch the game is when all the drama happened.
That's the proof right there in the figgy pudding. Where'd
you go? Guys? Want to watch it? Steve? Yeah, but
the whole play stopped. You know, everyone stopped. The buzz,
the Clippers shut off, and everybody watches to see what
was happening in the game. Hey, protecting the stars, I
get it, But the drama's great, Caitlin Clark's fine. Even so,
(42:05):
if the drama's great, then it's a non star. No,
then they let these things sort of happen with that reason.
And you know what, even Dave Roberts, he was just
mad that he got ejected. It was done the right way.
They hit Otani in the leg by the Rodgers hit Tatteese. Yeah,
you got to hit him in the butter leg, you
hit hunting. And you know, even though Tani posted his
reaction when he's like, the.
Speaker 2 (42:26):
Announcers did point out Covino that the only intentional throw
seemed to be the one that hit Otana.
Speaker 4 (42:31):
Yeah, no doubt that's true, but hey, that's baseball. But hey,
a really fun night of sports coming up. We're gonna
go over Mike's words wisdom, give away a swig. Is
it rich spots baseball? Yes, that's baseball. So we got Spots,
Midweek Major and a bunch coming up now before we
wrap up, Caitlyn Clark and we keep seeing the highlights
(42:53):
over and over again. Hey, if it wasn't good for ratings,
why do we keep seeing the highlights over and over
and over again? Exactly?
Speaker 2 (43:00):
The question is is.
Speaker 4 (43:01):
It bad for the league or is drama just straight
up great for the league. What does your boy Triple
G say in the world of boxing, he says Max
Max Max. No, he says, I am champion, Canelo is not.
I'm real champing. Oh oh, drama show, drama show that
some people want. Drama show, drama show, drama show. Rybody
(43:23):
loves drama show. And I do want to bring in
one caveat that you may have heard here on Fox
Sports Radio, the Gottlieb was saying that is bad because
what about the moms that want to take their daughters
to a w NBA game. You're spending good money on
bad sportsmanship, bad basketball. Sometimes, like, is this the sort
(43:45):
of example you want to show young women and girls
in sports fans period. I mean, do you like it
when all these girls are pulling each other's hair? My
teenage daughter sees worse on her school camp. I mean exactly, Daddy.
It's just something to keep in mind. Have a you know,
full conversation here. I happen to agree that the drama
is great for the league. And no, Rich, I don't
(44:06):
like when they're pulling on each other's hair. I don't
know if you're talking to me neither. I'm just saying,
I mean, creep. Oh, I'm understanding. What's up, Dan Bayer? Guys.
Speaker 11 (44:14):
I know that you're getting ready for your huge weekend
in Vegas, which also includes the Sam and Big Mic
road trip, and we're gonna hear from Big Mic in
a little bit stories. But when you guys are driving,
please don't pull ash your door. Sanders, what happened?
Speaker 6 (44:29):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (44:29):
Oh?
Speaker 11 (44:30):
The Browns rookie quarterback cited for going forty one miles
per hour over the speed limits on Tuesday morning, going
on one hundred and one in a sixty mile per
hour zone, according to police records in Strongsville, Ohio.
Speaker 4 (44:46):
I won't do that, don't I do the opposite Dan,
I go forty one in like a sixty five. Yeah,
you'll pescamto on the one on one here in LA
and be like, who's going forty in the right hand lanes?
I'm old and.
Speaker 2 (45:00):
It's Steve Cavino.
Speaker 11 (45:01):
Yeah, I drive like mister Magoo one in a sixty
four sedor Oh, I.
Speaker 4 (45:06):
Don't don't make foolish moves at that. I'm never one
of those need for speed kind of guys, especially a
guy with such a great life and future ahead of him.
It's like, why take any risks at all? And you
know it's speaking of which a terrible story. But you
saw Henry Ruggs yesterday speaking about regret and he wished
he could turn back the clock and yeah.
Speaker 2 (45:25):
He got to speak to a group of prisoners, and
it's sad. We recently saw Max Crosby, his former teammate,
say that he was supposed to be out at top
Golf with Rugs that night, wasn't able to go, And
he said Ruggs had never made any big mistakes in
his young life before, wasn't wasn't a troublemaker any that
was a really good young kid and just made one
(45:47):
dumb mistake that night, Danny by driving fast after he drank.
Speaker 4 (45:50):
We were working at ESPN not too long before this happened,
and we interviewed him. And I can't say you can
make a full assessment of someone in one silly interview,
but he make such a night. I mean, we hooked
with the guy for a half hour and he was
a cool young kid and I'm sure still is, but
one terrible, terrible mistake.
Speaker 9 (46:07):
Young men, young men especially, do really stupid things. I
keep up with Iowa news and I saw that a
nineteen year old man in Iowa was on a motorcycle.
He got pulled over at one hundred and seventy seven
miles per hour one hundred and seventy seven. He had
someboddy shooting video of him doing like you know what
do they call wheelies and stuff? Yeah, and this guy
got to one seventy seven. That's insane.
Speaker 11 (46:30):
How do you pull him over?
Speaker 2 (46:31):
Well, he got gone. He got caught by a plane. Helicopters.
Speaker 4 (46:35):
Yeah, car, yeah, thanks for noticing. The highway patrol had
a plane that they spotted him with.
Speaker 2 (46:41):
And then eventually he did play if you have one
hundred eight or two hundred thousand dollars sports car and
you want to see what it can do. Rent a racetrack.
You have that sort of money where you could rent
a track for yourself, no doubt, I agree.
Speaker 4 (46:52):
So, Hey, be safe out there, don't pull to thunder
Road or something. You know, he was putting people's lives in. Jeff,
I hate that, man. I well, you know what, in
a few minutes, we're gonna go over Mike's words of wisdom,
So get ready to be dialing eight seven, seven, nine
to nine. On Fox Big Mic runs his place. Drop
some words of wisdom. If you repeat it verbatim, word
(47:13):
for word, you walk away with a caveno. On Rich
Fox Sports Radio, stainless steel, Swiggy, it's the sweetest water bottle.
Speaker 2 (47:19):
Known to mass.
Speaker 4 (47:20):
Speaking of Mike who runs his place, Hey, Sam dan
Byer mentioned.
Speaker 2 (47:24):
The road trip.
Speaker 4 (47:24):
Are you prepared to share a queen size bed with
Mike and Vegas?
Speaker 12 (47:27):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (47:28):
We forgot to tell you are a combinations, we said, up.
Speaker 9 (47:31):
So from what I've been told, we only have one
cot and we'll be sharing a cot in a boiler room.
Speaker 2 (47:36):
Yeah circa.
Speaker 4 (47:37):
And so I said, nuts to butts, right, that's right.
Speaker 2 (47:40):
It's gonna be like Old Times Room.
Speaker 4 (47:43):
You know what, this is the like the secondary reason
that we have these big events. Of course we want
to connect and have fun with our listeners and make
new friends and all that and broadcast live. But the
stories that come of it are always the best part.
So I can't wait to hear That's sort of that
side of the story.
Speaker 11 (47:58):
I also don't think it's shit be neglected that Sam
is doing this to take advantage of Mike's handicap parking,
So that is.
Speaker 2 (48:08):
Like, let's be real, let's be real here. It's definitely
the funny.
Speaker 4 (48:12):
All right, So Rich we have to talk about Lebron
and ring culture. I just want to keep people in
the loop of what's going on. He's talking about people
need to drop ring culture. But isn't he the guy
that's sort of well, I don't want to say started it.
I mean we leaned into it. At least. I'm going
(48:34):
to discuss that. But you know what, let's not keep
this waiting any longer. It's time for the guy who
runs his place to drop his words of wisdom. It's
time for the guy that runs this place.
Speaker 11 (48:46):
Just for clarification, guys, Big Mike does not run this place.
He is not in charge of everything. He has no
power over really anybody here. He does not run this place.
Speaker 5 (48:56):
It's Big Mike's words of wisdom on a Wednesday.
Speaker 4 (49:04):
Life is not a fairy tale. If you lose your
shoe at midnight, you're just wasted, which actually happened Rich.
You know, we called Rich barefoot Jones for years because
he was so drunk at a party one time. I
saw him in a circle of girls like hamming it up,
like hey, Rich's going on? And we're like, I'm just
(49:26):
hanging out all these beautiful women, high ladies, and.
Speaker 2 (49:29):
I'm like, dude, where's your shoes?
Speaker 4 (49:31):
He was so drunk, didn't realize he had no shoes on.
Swear to God.
Speaker 2 (49:34):
True story.
Speaker 4 (49:34):
That is a true story. They called me barefoot Jones
for a year, Barefoot Jones for years because somebody I
lost my foot up. Somebody ended up discovering these shoes
in a room and you're like, whose shoes are these?
Speaker 2 (49:46):
But they were riches.
Speaker 4 (49:47):
Hey, listen, it was spring break in the two thousands.
What do you want to tell you legend of Barefoot Jones.
Speaker 2 (49:50):
We have a beautiful swiggy waiting to be one right
now in the studio lines.
Speaker 4 (49:54):
Now while we wait for that winner to call in,
I do want to share something I did yesterday.
Speaker 2 (49:59):
That number really quick the number again, eight.
Speaker 4 (50:01):
Seven, seven, nine to nine on Fox. Repeat Mike's words verbatim,
and you win. I feel like I did. I feel
like I did something that needed to be done for
the younger generation. As you know, I've talked about it
quite a bit. I'll say, what you trimmed your back
hair for Vegas? Now, I'm gonna do that tonight. My kid,
I coach both my kids, my son Ben is five.
(50:24):
I get so much joy teaching these little five and
six year olds baseball. It's honestly, it's what I get,
what I get the most joy out of other than,
you know, just being a dad and doing the show
with you guys. Like, I'm pretty blessed, and I do
love coaching. I could see why I got, like Doug
gott Lee blessed doing on a professional level, right, because
it really is teaching and watching and rewarding. It's rewarding, right.
(50:48):
And yesterday it's one hundred degrees Danny g in the Valley,
can you back me up that it's like one hundred
degrees in gross in the valley, it.
Speaker 2 (50:54):
Is like it's it's in the like mid nineties and Sherman.
Speaker 4 (50:58):
Outside like forecast there was sunny, sunny, sweaty ass today
and then sweaty asses. Yeah, swasty weather, swasty put in
the valley Dan West Hills, Calabasas, Woodland Hills. It's like
a hundred.
Speaker 6 (51:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (51:12):
Even last night we weren't able to open up the
windows or the sliding glass door because it's it's to
you don't get any breeze right now.
Speaker 4 (51:18):
So these little kids, we're doing baseball practice for this
week's tournament, and I could see they're like irritable. Even
brought the little missing fan I have that I bought
at home deep on those cooling rags that we have
these kids. My wife bought those with the kids. Is
that missing thing? Is that what Kovina uses on his
hair that have mercy? So you'll love this because it's
(51:44):
a move that these kids probably would never do. In
between infield practice and batting, I'm like, kids, come with
me because I know why the snackshack there is a
hose and I was like, all right, let's go, and
I sprayed all these kids down with the hose and
then is it true. You also spray to mom with
a white T shirt on, but I mean that is
(52:04):
accidentally creepo. And then my son goes, I want to
drink of water, and all the kids, one at a time,
took a simple water. Hey that's generation X is bragging around.
Speaker 2 (52:16):
Yeah, that's school dandy.
Speaker 4 (52:19):
Some of the parents made eye contact with with me,
like taste like rabbit, like well done, like because these
little kids are freaking spoiling panpers right by the time
they see what it's like to have rust in their mouth.
And you know what, this tastes calcified. It's taste like coins.
It's yeah, it tastes a little different. Coach Rich, Hey, kids,
are you sure this is okay? That's the pump you'll live.
(52:41):
Now you're going to have a reputation. You poison the kids.
I poison all the kids in the alley. But bodies
can't handle that. But I will say I think it
was one of those cool little memories. I'll remember these
little kids all drink it out of the hose like
we did in the eighties and nineties. Now every kid
has our own little water bottle and Stanley cup and
all the different thing. So let's get a contestant. I
(53:04):
have given you time to think about this. Mike's words
a wisdom. If you can repeat it verbatim, you win
that prize again. Let's get a contestant and do this.
Who we got there?
Speaker 2 (53:14):
All right, Mike in Mississippi. Mike, you think you got this?
Speaker 13 (53:18):
Oh man, I think so.
Speaker 14 (53:20):
We'll give it a shot.
Speaker 2 (53:21):
All right, take a beat. Let that music simmer.
Speaker 15 (53:23):
Okay, life is not a fairy tale. If you lose
a shoe at midnight.
Speaker 4 (53:30):
Noready missed, Mike, divulge what he missed. You know what,
here's the beauty of it. Mike. You get to redeem
yourself next week. All right, thanks, thanks for playing, Thanks
for playing. We appreciate it. Man, he lost it.
Speaker 2 (53:47):
I thought he had it is one word, ship up
on one word.
Speaker 4 (53:50):
It's got to be verbatim. We can't just be handing
out swiggies. This is like the Stanley Cup of the
Coveno on Rich show. Life's not a heard I think
is that Part's right? Okay, Hey, let's get someone else.
We got to get a winner here from Mike's words
of wisdom, spots midweek majors on deck.
Speaker 2 (54:06):
All right, let's go to North Cacilaca, North Carolina. Will Hello, Will, Hey.
Speaker 4 (54:10):
Will, what's up?
Speaker 3 (54:12):
What's going on?
Speaker 6 (54:13):
Guys?
Speaker 4 (54:14):
Thanks for calling?
Speaker 14 (54:14):
Man?
Speaker 4 (54:15):
You ready to win a swig or what? Absolutely, sir,
let's hear it.
Speaker 8 (54:20):
Life is not a fairy tale.
Speaker 3 (54:21):
If you lose your shoe, you are just wasted.
Speaker 4 (54:24):
Then no, really man, he said that with a lot
of confidence, right.
Speaker 2 (54:29):
I think you'd kind of summarize a little bit.
Speaker 4 (54:31):
Yeah, yo, well I thought you had it. Man, he
missed a part of the day. Well, you know what again,
play again next week. Thanks for calling. I know it's
a lot of pressure to call on the radio, but
you get to win this prize and you learn a
little something.
Speaker 2 (54:46):
Some words of wisdom the.
Speaker 4 (54:47):
Numbers eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox if you
could repeat it verbatim, eight seven seven ninety nine on
Fox Mike's Wednesday Words of Wisdom. We're gonna get more
phone calls. But let's dive into this Lebron James thing.
Uh yeah, this is wildly funny to me because when
when someone's uh, you know you guys joking and call
(55:09):
me double talking David she which I never double talk.
I try not to when people say something Box Davis
and then people say the complete opposite. It makes me laugh.
Lebron James, Well, hold on, you're allowed to change your mind,
You're allowed to evolve. Yeah, because our famous example is
(55:30):
before we became dads, we used to say, I'm never
gonna have a toy castle in my living room. Ever.
Speaker 2 (55:37):
Get your toys out of my living room.
Speaker 4 (55:39):
Yeah, And of course life takes over and you realize
the kids take over, and you realize that you just
want to have a fun family. Yeah, and what you
used to say changed, and that's okay. I remember when
Cavino was a dad and I had not become a dad.
Jet we all went out to a Japanese restaurant, big
group of people, and Covino's daughter left her little toy
(56:01):
chopsticks at home and Cavino lived like two blocks away.
Kevin I was like, yo, oh, bro, let me just
turn around. I gotta get her chopsticks. And in my mind,
I'm like, your kid will just deal. Everyone judged me, like, man,
what a weeny daddy is? Just tell your daughter to
deal with it. And now I realize that if my
kid left something they wanted behind and I was a
block away, you damn well know I'm turning around because
(56:24):
it's just saving me the hassle. So I tried to
prevent a meltdown, and it was sort of my fall.
Speaker 2 (56:30):
I was really the ones that forgot them.
Speaker 4 (56:31):
Yeah, and I remember saying. I remember saying Kevino, I'm sorry, Bud,
you were right back then? Or how about this one?
Speaker 1 (56:36):
Right?
Speaker 4 (56:36):
I just didn't know. You evolve, you change, You're allowed
to change your mind. I'm just saying, for the sake
of conversation, to keep that in mind here and then
tell me how you feel about all this. I used
to say. I used to have a rule guys that
you would I could never travel more than twenty minutes
for booty. That was the rule back in our twenties.
Remember that, I said, I'll never travel when twenty minutes
for booty And then I met someone I was traveling
(56:58):
across the country every week and an idiot. Yeah, so
you change your mind. It happens. Lebron James slams the
NBA's obsession with ring culture. It's just weird to me. Yeah,
Lebron on ring culture. This is what he said. I
don't know why it's discussed so much in our sport.
You're telling me iverson Barclay Nash weren't e fing unbelievable.
(57:22):
They can't be talked about with these guys because they
didn't win rings. It's like saying Peyton Manning camp be
in the same room as Brady or Mahomes because he
only has one ring. Yeah, yeah, Peyton has two. So
Lebron's wrong with the quote. First of all, Barry Bonds
never won a World Series. You can't sit here and
tell me he's not the greatest player to ever touch
(57:43):
a bat. So when you hear that quote, you gotta
say to yourself, he mean, we are obsessed with ring culture,
But hold on, is Lebron the guy that's like, how
many were gonna win? Not three, no four, not five,
not six, not seven? Like, and that was also the
guy that sort of started.
Speaker 2 (57:58):
The trend three, not five, not six, seven, not seven.
Speaker 4 (58:04):
I mean, he's the guy that he's the guy that
that left his hometown team to go play and start
and create a super team for the Rings. So that's
the interesting part of the story. It's like, dude, you're
the guy that created that culture. He built a super
team to win a couple, then he went back to
(58:25):
his hometown to win a ring, which was glorious for Cleveland,
and then he went to the Lakers to win for
the biggest dynasty maybe other than the Celtics and NBA history.
So when you hear everything laid out, is he allowed
to change his mind? Does he make a point or
is he the biggest double talker? Sort of hedging what
(58:45):
he put out there, because guess what, he doesn't want
to be compared as the guy who has less rings
than Jordan. He's basically saying without saying, I'm still the
greatest that has ever played the game, despite who has
more rings than me. Now you can say, yeah, Robert,
or he has more rings than him. Does that mean
he's a better player?
Speaker 1 (59:03):
No?
Speaker 4 (59:04):
But how many great players out there don't have rings?
Think about it? Not that many. I mean it's the
ultimate rationale, right, We all do this in life. If
something works out in our favor, then it's the most
important thing. But if it doesn't, you'll say to yourself
like it doesn't really matter anyway. And it's also the source.
It's it's Lebron. He's the poster boy for rings mattering.
(59:27):
In my opinions, that's what makes it interesting. If we
were up for an award for I don't know, the
dopiest radio show, right. If we won, you'd be like, dude,
awards matter, look at this. If we didn't win, you'd
be like the stupid award anyway. And I think that's
what Lebron's doing now, because while he is way accomplished
more than most people in any sport in the history
(59:48):
of athletics, he still is shy of of the other greats.
And I think it's easy for him to now say
the rings matter. Come also on the Lakers for that
same reason. I mean, you're in the game of wins
and losses, and you're in the game of championships. If
(01:00:10):
Lebron had six any championships mattering. If Lebron had six
and he was tied with Jordan, or had seven, one
more than Jordan and had the same as Brady had
in the NFCA A matter, he'd say, your baby ring culture.
That's what it's about. Yeah, that's that's about winning. Your
narrative goes along with how you do. That's just a fact.
All right, let's get a winner for the swigy. More
(01:00:31):
people are saying they can nail this. Mike's words of wisdom.
Speaker 2 (01:00:34):
We have three contestants left to play, because remember we
agreed five tries at this.
Speaker 4 (01:00:39):
Okay, yeah, you get five chances. If not, you just lose.
Speaker 2 (01:00:42):
We're on the third try right now. It's Cruise in
San Diego? What of Cruz?
Speaker 14 (01:00:47):
About those locals forever? What's going on.
Speaker 6 (01:00:51):
Business?
Speaker 14 (01:00:52):
Cruciso. I think I'm speaking with Niklo and that's right,
that's me. Look looking forward to the Padres Dodgers tonight,
really need one. I'll tell you what. If the game
gets out of hand, there's gonna be another plunkin. So
it's either gonna be Mookie Freeman or Otani.
Speaker 4 (01:01:11):
Just heads up, yo, Danny, he's called out. What Dodger
he's gonna hit tonight?
Speaker 2 (01:01:14):
The sports of wisdom. They can have a parade in
San Diego with a big sign that says we plunked
the Dodger as you got the words wisdom or what I.
Speaker 3 (01:01:25):
Sure do it?
Speaker 14 (01:01:26):
But also head shot to a big mic who runs
a place.
Speaker 4 (01:01:31):
Big like that. He's giving Mike shout outs. Let's let's
hear the words of wisdom.
Speaker 2 (01:01:34):
Cruise.
Speaker 14 (01:01:35):
All right, life is not a fairy tale. If you
lose your shoe at midnight, you're just wasted.
Speaker 10 (01:01:44):
Yeah, I may be right on the outside.
Speaker 4 (01:01:49):
Finally the inside, finally theres win something nice. Cruisito, all right, Cruise,
hang on the line him, get your info and we're
gonna mail a C and R swiggy tea there, San Diego,
Thanks Cruz, he's got the he's got the sweegee. Thank you, buddy,
thank you man. Congrats. That's great. So we got a winner.
And again, guys, don't feel bad if you lostga culture.
(01:02:13):
It's not about winning. It's not about winning. We're Cavino
and rich. And speaking of baseball, look at the time,
all school win fifty hits. There's a certain.
Speaker 16 (01:02:26):
What we're gonna do is go back back into time,
throwing it back for a Thursday. Old school won fifty
hits at fifty after CNR give you the time capsule
topic and we reminisce together.
Speaker 4 (01:02:42):
Yeah. So word on the streets is today is an anniversary,
especial day on this day in eighteen forty six. I
think Mike, who runs his place, he was probably around
around that time. Who I think he was there when
it happened. Mike, he was there. I heard he was
(01:03:05):
there on this day when fall was invented. In what
city was invented on this day? Hoboken, New Jersey. Hoboken,
New New Jersey, where Covino and Rich met and began
this journey as a show together, Danny jil Right off
of Washington Street in Hoboken, where all the bars are
(01:03:26):
by the way, Hobokean New Jersey, the home of old
Blue Eyes and more bars per capita. Hoboken is a
really cool town right across the Hudson River from New
York City. And there it is. There's a there's a
plaque and it says baseball started here. I was gonna say,
I've seen the plaque, Danny g it's a historical monument.
Oh yeah, I remember the ken Burns documentary famously talking
(01:03:48):
about it. The ken Burns documentary Classic. So we asked
you Fox Sports Radio Nation Throwback Thursday, Old School in
fifty hits. This is when we get everybody involved, the
most inclusive show on radio seven ninety nine on Fox
and at Kovino and Rich at Fox Sports Radio on
this anniversary, On this day, eighteen forty six, baseball was invented.
Speaker 2 (01:04:10):
Baseball as we know it.
Speaker 4 (01:04:11):
Baseball as we know it? Right, what are the most
important moments in baseball to you, all right, I have that,
and I have a second part of the question. I
want to add. I want to go your favorite baseball
memory that you think was just so iconic that meant
so much to you if baseball went all the same
without it, and also your favorite weird baseball saying or lingo.
(01:04:35):
Because I'll give you one, Okay, I give you I'm
gonna give you two, all right. My favorite moment, clearly
as a Mets fan, gets By Buckner rounding third is
night and the Mets win the ball game, Game six,
eighty six. I was in kindergarten. I was my son's age,
and I remember thinking, like is at the beginning a
lot of a great things. And now the Mets haven't
won since, but eighty six, Game six gets by Buckner's
(01:04:56):
my moment. My favorite sayings in baseball little number, never
understood that little number. And I love how it's okay
that we just call guys studs. For some reason, you're
left to call other grown men stud.
Speaker 2 (01:05:10):
Chryce Harper's a stud.
Speaker 4 (01:05:12):
So hear from you guys.
Speaker 2 (01:05:14):
He doesn't have a little number. That's probably why.
Speaker 4 (01:05:18):
Again, greatest moments that are important to you, we chop
it up next right here on Covino and Rich Fox
Sports Radio. If you want to hear the thirty things
I think people do at the Stanley Cup, listen to
the Bonus Pod where I could be uncensored. If you
want to hear why there's something wrong with Rich? Perhaps, Yeah,
(01:05:41):
take a listen for sure something wrong with this guy.
So I'm Covino, that is Rich, and we do this
every Thursday, old school when fifty hits. According to Iowa
Sam's math, one hundred and seventy nine years ago, Rich
baseball was invented today, eighteen forty six on this day.
So it got us thinking about the most important moments
(01:06:05):
to you in baseball history. And there's historical moments like
I'll give you an example that might not be one
for me. It's been around one hundred and eighty years almost.
But let's say in Seattle, Dan Byer could correct me, Well,
he's not a he's a Seattle Seahawks fan, not a
Mariners fan. But in Seattle, Rich they often say if
they didn't win in ninety five, they wouldn't have safe
(01:06:28):
co field, right, Yeah, they say, if King Griffey Junior
didn't show up in the playoffs, they wouldn't have kept
that team in Seattle. Maybe getting Jor saved baseball in Seattle. Yeah,
maybe just getting him period? Was that significant moment for
your squad? Right? Perhaps it was Jay Buner. I don't know,
it depends on you asked. But if they didn't win
in ninety five at the Yankees expense, baseball might not
(01:06:51):
exist there anymore. So that's a historical moment in Seattle history.
And I'll give an obvious one. I got to get
it out of the way. Jackie Robinson breaking the color
barrier has to be one of the most important things
to ever happen in baseball, not only for baseball, just
for you know, the world that we live in today.
So eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox. It doesn't
(01:07:14):
have to be of historical significance. It could be something
like Ridge said, the Mets winning eighty six. Maybe your
first baseball game, Yeah, yeah, whatever whatever it means to you.
I remember my first baseball game. My mother likes to
remind me that I should never be hard on my
kids if they like want to leave a game, because
you know, I'm a diehard baseball fan, and my mom
would always tell me that at the games when everyone
(01:07:35):
else is cheering, let's go Mets, I was cheering let's
go home. You're a little kid, you know, you don't
want to know he's sitting there in the heat. But
you know what, I watched a documentary recently, so I
got to shout out my pal Al. You know, Albert,
Can me know my buddy al Al Spaulding.
Speaker 8 (01:07:50):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (01:07:51):
I think this is a big moment in sports history
that can go under the radar. Obviously ended up making
balls for a variety of sports, the NBA, but it
was back in the late eighteen hundreds that Spalding was
the guy that got every little baseball league in town
to use the same baseball. I don't know if people
know this before that it was almost like houseball, you
(01:08:13):
know when you played wiffleball as a kid, where it
was like neighborhood rules. It was neighborhood rules in real baseball.
Like some balls were tighter, some balls are bigger, smaller.
Spalding was the guy that made yeah, But wasn't Spalding
also the guy that made the glove like an acceptable
thing because he was so good. Anyone that wore a
glove was made fun of, like you big wimp. You
(01:08:34):
wear a glove? What a weenie? You know, we played
bare handed. But because he was so good and people
respected him so much, it made it okay. Isn't that
the back something like that? That was the original baseball.
They started outs gloves and then the fingers on the
gloves just started getting bigger and bigger like Mickey Mouse.
And then who decided to tie all the fingers of
the gloves together? So like I'm bringing the fun facts today.
(01:08:55):
You might have heard of them, the Rawlings brothers. So
I mean, think of all the gloves you had as
a kid. It was the Rawlings Brothers that said, let's
make a pocket to the glove and connect the fingers.
And you could go nerdy old school like that, or
simply just say, hey, Freddy Freeman last year is my
favorite moment. You know, these are all important moments in
baseball history, but everybody has the ones that stand out
(01:09:16):
to them. Dan Byer, do you have one?
Speaker 11 (01:09:19):
Well, I was just gonna say, just on the heels
of what Rich was talking about, like a house, baseball
ends up becoming uniformed. But isn't that what makes baseball
so great? With these stadiums where every NFL field is
the same. Every NBA courts by and large is the same,
with the same dimensions. Paintings and otherwise are different. But
isn't that what makes the green Monster awesome? Or you
(01:09:42):
know the right field hole in the Fenway Park, the pistolling, Yeah,
you know, the warehouse in Baltimore, like all those things.
Like that's something that I find great. I also love
this chatter. Come on, kid, come on now, come on,
come on, come on, yeah, come on.
Speaker 4 (01:10:00):
Baseball chatter, yes, I love it. Sounds of the game absolutely.
Speaker 11 (01:10:03):
You know, maybe don't get it at a at a
big league ballpark, but you go to any legion tournament
or high school, you always have chatter.
Speaker 4 (01:10:10):
Hey, Dann Bayer, Yes, good, I good, I good ee.
Speaker 2 (01:10:14):
Ki'd take your pitts.
Speaker 4 (01:10:15):
Kid, Come on now, come on, come on now, kid.
Speaker 2 (01:10:18):
How about you.
Speaker 4 (01:10:19):
Now you've seen them, you're hacking.
Speaker 2 (01:10:22):
I turned Southern, by the way.
Speaker 11 (01:10:24):
I don't know if you can tell them, but when
I did my chatter, it's like I just you know,
was born in Alabama, d O.
Speaker 2 (01:10:30):
I was gonna say, rich the other sounds of the
game when we were little kids at the stadiums uh,
the announcers on transistor radios. You won't hear that anymore.
Speaker 4 (01:10:38):
No doubt. Man.
Speaker 2 (01:10:39):
And and by the way, especially being school here in La.
Speaker 4 (01:10:43):
DV speaking of the old school chatter, can you know?
And I always joke about how you know when I
know they still sell them, maybe like the old timers
buy him, but the guy that sells things at stadiums
still talk like they're from the nineteen twenties. Catch a
program here, program Peanuts, popcorn program, old school. That's the
cool part about baseball, Yeah, because it goes so far back.
Speaker 2 (01:11:04):
There's so much history.
Speaker 11 (01:11:05):
So again the bam, I don't dip, but if I
was playing first base, I'd have my tongue in my
bottom lip, you know, right doing that chatter right the best?
Speaker 4 (01:11:14):
All right, So we get you involved at eight seven,
seven ninety nine on Fox. There's so much history when
it comes to baseball. And aside from Rob Parker's love
of baseball, here on Fox Sports Radio, we're one of
the only shows that really loved talking about baseball because
on right now we I got my baseball, still love baseball.
I got one, let's say. Coming up in the lineup
was a Cavino Bayer Danny, g that sounds like hits.
(01:11:38):
That sounds like here, it sounds like ron, sounds like
some ruds. Yeah. I love baseball chatter too. That's a
good point, Dan, But if baseball chatter is the best
sports chatter, you remember the first time you heard ducks
in a pond. You're like, oh, okay, ducks in a pond.
They get it. Okay. Oh we want a pitcher, not
a belly itcher. Oh oh, we want to catcher, not
a belly scratcher. Oh we want to catcher now, speaker. Come,
(01:12:03):
by the way, the kids made a really fun creative
one pitcher gets up. You know when pitchers would hit
in little league itself, like got runners on base Yo,
help yourself, help yourself.
Speaker 2 (01:12:13):
Oh so good.
Speaker 4 (01:12:14):
I mentioned Jackie Robinson. So I'm gonna get another one
out of the way. As a as a half Fato local,
myself got to give props to the great Roberto Clemente
again being the first Hispanic player of Puerto Rican descent
to play professional baseball in nineteen fifty five. These are
all major moments that opened up the game to where
(01:12:36):
it is today. Right, So again I have to point
that out, but it doesn't have to be that historical
because me personally, I remember the nineteen ninety six World Series, right,
the Yankees were down, dude, down, the Braves were dominant,
and then Jim Layritz hits this magical home run and
(01:12:56):
turns the whole series around, and the Yankees win that series,
and that sort of started that dynasty for the New
York Yankees. If you guys remember, that was like a
clear memory because before that was a little kid when
they won in ninety six, When that turnaround happened with
Jim Larretz's home run, the Yankees never looked back. They
win the World Series. Yet he stumble in ninety seven,
(01:13:19):
but then they go on that major run, dude, and
looking back, I think we're far enough removed to look
back and say what they did was insane. Yeah, that
dynasty the Yankees had winning three in a row.
Speaker 2 (01:13:32):
That's unheard of.
Speaker 4 (01:13:33):
Baseball's the hardest sport to repeat in they did three
in a row. So Larret's he's in trouble, right, He's
a yeah, Well, I'm not saying he's the best, dude.
I'm saying he turned that whole series around. So YT's
hear that, you know, said Jim Larretz is his hero.
That's not what I said. I'm saying that whole turnaround
when they were looking like they didn't have a chance
(01:13:55):
against the Atlanta Braves. So moments important moments to you
that made baseball is what it is. Danny G.
Speaker 2 (01:14:03):
What's yours? How about Hank Aaron's historic seven hundred and
fifteenth home run. Now we weren't around, but we famously
see the clip over and over of those two fans
running out to pat him on his back there in
their seventies duds.
Speaker 4 (01:14:16):
You know what's so cool about that? As he was
getting so much flack about breaking the Babes record, right,
like no one wanted him to be the guy, and
racial barriers and things like that. Redict and then you
see these two goofy white dudes, the leather chack like
seventy Bell boy dollers, big college seventies dudes. That is
one of the most classic clips for sure.
Speaker 2 (01:14:37):
I love that.
Speaker 4 (01:14:37):
I haven't seen it in a minute, but I love
that clip. So the ones that stand out to you,
Let's go to the phoonks, get everybody involved. Where do
you want to start. Let's start with Baker in Illinois.
Baker in Illinois. You're on the Cavino and Rich Show,
the Anniversary of Baseball? Hey man, what's up?
Speaker 8 (01:14:55):
So it's kind of a not a moment, but uh so,
I'll try and make it quick. I grew up listening
to Braves games on my radio, and so I was
a fan. And then the Yankees knocked him out of
the World Series. So I decided I hate the Yankees.
(01:15:19):
And then I jumped on the bag bandwagon right at
the right time in three, and then the Yankees knocked
the Red Sox out, but then four they won, and
that was dude.
Speaker 4 (01:15:36):
Yeah, for any Red Sox fan or Yankee hater, four
was insane because it goes back to the curse of
the Babe when they dished him after nineteen eighteen. Right, So,
and that's another question itself. Would baseball be the same, Rich,
Baseball would still exist, But would it be the same
if Babe Ruth wasn't traded to the Yankees? I mean,
(01:15:56):
would the NBA be what it was if it wasn't
for the Atrick Johnson, Larry Bird feud and Michael Jordan
coming And you can say that about most stims. I
think Babe, you know, was super important back then he
was larger than life. He was a circus act. People
would go see him to just hit the ball. Yeah,
he could argue though. He might be the most important
(01:16:17):
figure in baseball to make it what it is today,
no doubt. So thank you man. Uh yeah, two thousand
and four. Major impact for anybody in the New England
area too. How about all those old people that never
sawt this other team win and you're just happy for
Grandpa that you got to see something. Scott and Missouri
(01:16:40):
important moments in baseball.
Speaker 15 (01:16:43):
November November second, twenty sixteen. Cubs winning the World Series unbelievable.
I mean, growing up because staying in Chicago, I moved
to Springfield, Missouri, right in the middle of Cardinal Country.
I could take a crap for years, but finally the
Cups get it.
Speaker 4 (01:17:01):
They win the World Series. You know, I always wonder
if the Cubs fans had a hangover after that, meaning
like not from drinking, Like like now what, because I
there's that there was such a lovable charm about the Cubs.
You finally win one, and then I wonder, like what
does that feel like? That? There were so many great
stories similar to the four Red Sox. You waited your
whole life to see that. The story of David Ross
(01:17:24):
was big too. Remember he got carried off the field
his majestic home run. That was huge for Chicago and
we all got to witness that absolutely in our lifetime.
One of the greatest moments for sure. Thank you man,
Rob in Pennsylvania, you're on the Cavino and Rich show.
Speaker 3 (01:17:39):
Hey guys, I love you and love your show.
Speaker 4 (01:17:41):
Thanks man. Thanks.
Speaker 14 (01:17:43):
The guy just stole my.
Speaker 3 (01:17:44):
Thunder was the Cubs winning the World Series one hundred
and eight years.
Speaker 15 (01:17:48):
And something cool was a baseball has one hundred and
eight threats, so he couldn't have matched up anything better.
Speaker 4 (01:17:53):
You know, that's cool. And you know what you think
too about like Steve Bartman and all the stupid things
that happen in the port CBS, and you know it's
it's funny. Dan Buyer brought up a great point and Cavi,
you know, I know you found some young some young
kid on social media that's learning baseball and he's like, yo,
when was someone gonna tell me all the stadiums were different?
(01:18:14):
And to me, there there's such a charm about That's
why while people do want to go see different basketball games,
and football games. Why do you think everyone wants to
go see every Major League Baseball stadium because they're all different.
You go to Milwaukee, they got the slide in left field.
You go see the an Astros game and they got
the train in left field. Or remember they used to
have that little center field little thing. You go to
(01:18:36):
Yankee Stadium, it's Yankee Stadium every every you go to
Wrigley Field, you see the the ivy on the wall.
It's there's something so special about each stadium, the dimensions,
the grass, everything. And by the way, we've been to
MLB experiences where I know Dan Byer enjoys this conversation. Dan.
They showed all the different types of grass at all
(01:18:57):
the stadiums, like it is precision, like the different types
of strains of grass at all the different stadiums used.
Speaker 11 (01:19:03):
That's an another thing. That's why I think golf appeals
to me so much, aside from just the sheer frustration
of it, but it's such a gorgeous setting in Major
League Baseball, with that lush green field. If you have
certain stuff mode absolutely in San Francisco. This is kind
of funny.
Speaker 4 (01:19:19):
I don't know if anybody remembers this the San Francisco
Giants before well, they changed it. They used to have
the old navy like splash landing area. Right, But do
you guys know the story of Rusty, the fourteen foot
mechanical mascot that would come out if they hit a
home run into the splash landing. You gotta look this up.
(01:19:42):
Because it was such a failure they got rid of it.
But it was just fourteen foot mechanical baseball dude that
would come gliding out, tipping his hat out to the
to the audience, and everyone hated it so much that
they eventually got rid of it. But the railway that
he would the track that he would move on, is
still there underneath that splash landing at It's Oracle right
(01:20:05):
at Oracle pack Bell Park, whatever the heck it is.
But look up the legend of Rusty and it might
trigger some memories because that story's wild Rusty again. It
goes with the signature look that every stadium has, which
is why we like these ballparks. You're right, I love
that originality that every city brings to the game. Oh
my god, this is so weird. Oh honestly, I think
(01:20:27):
it's kind of cool. But it got such backlash and
people were scared of it, and kids hated it, and
everyone's like the socks they got rid of Rusty. I
think it lasted like one season. Oh, let me ask you,
can you think of I have one that's on my mind.
Can you think of something else that was so terrible
they got rid of it in the stadium? Yeah? The
flagpole in Houston. No, that was the weakest. Do you
(01:20:51):
remember that, Like really gross statue in Florida? In Miami
with the Flamingos, they had some art his stick to
something going on. Yeah, but you know, the signature look
is I think a part of the game that we
all cherish, and I think that's part of why we
love it. Mike, who runs this place, who's also getting
(01:21:13):
ready for our big Vegas adventure. He's bringing a bunch
of prizes down there for us, he says. Kirk Gibson's
home run was the historical moment for him. He said,
you know, he always admired the lou Gerrick speech too
and what that meant for baseball, But Gibson's home run
was just a classic moment for him. Back to your
(01:21:33):
phone calls on the anniversary of baseball invented on this day,
eighteen forty six. What were some of the most important
historical moments in the game, or maybe just you personally,
Tom and Florida. You're on the show.
Speaker 12 (01:21:46):
Hey guys, you know I'm a Braves fan since the
early seventies. I was eight years old when he hit
the home run. But that's not it. I've seen him
win the World Series in ninety five and twenty twenty one,
but that's not it. The powder Blue Braids, the disgusting
Braves of the late seventies and eighties. It couldn't win anything.
And then Sid Bream in nineteen ninety one beats them.
Speaker 14 (01:22:07):
Throw from the.
Speaker 12 (01:22:08):
Greatest player in the game at the time, Barry Bonds.
Braves win, Braves win, Braves win from worse to first.
That to me was the moments that I'll always cherish.
Speaker 4 (01:22:19):
I love that, and I love the excitement in your voice.
I love the story. And then my mind starts to
trail off because baseball means a lot to all of us, right,
we all grew up loving it. And it gets me
thinking this would be a controversial one, Rich, but you
don't think the steroid era for as bad as it
was for baseball brought so much excitement for baseball, like
(01:22:40):
Sosa and McGuire gut punching each other.
Speaker 2 (01:22:42):
Also that summer was unforgettable, dude, Am I right? That
any network channel they would break into it. They would
break out of whatever they were covering at the time,
whether it was the news or whatever was going on,
and they would show the at bat for McGuire or so.
Speaker 4 (01:22:55):
So that's why it's so hypocritical to hold it against
these players, because everybody was pumped about it. And if
you were a little kid, like I wasn't a little kid,
but if you I was in college in the mid nineties,
late nineties. I graduated college in ninety eight. So if
you're a little kid and you're watching Sosa and McGuire
(01:23:16):
and guys like Rafael pal Merrow just slugging away, hitting
bombs all the time, you don't think that was important
in their life and reeled them into the game. Like, yeah,
I get it detrimental to stats into the game and
the reputation, but if that's what pulled you in and
you've been a lifelong fan since, was it really that bad?
Speaker 2 (01:23:34):
I don't know something to think about, all right.
Speaker 4 (01:23:37):
I thought of a couple other fun ones Nolan Ryan,
Robin Ventura.
Speaker 2 (01:23:43):
Historical moment for sure, just like one.
Speaker 4 (01:23:45):
Of those, like those are the fun moment you'll never forget.
It's like, uh yeah, it's definitely a moment you'll never forget.
Speaker 2 (01:23:51):
I don't know remember how important it was.
Speaker 4 (01:23:52):
Yeah, I mean it's well, I mean you can also
throw like Don Zimmer and Pedro. That fight was legendary
and just added to the Yankees Red Sox few. Dude,
There's just all these memorable moments, Mike Piazza and Clemens
throwing the bat at him. There's so many rens we
will say, magical moments. Mike Piazza bringing life back to
normal after nine to eleven with that bomb he hit.
Speaker 2 (01:24:12):
That was a majestic moment. Yeah, I think about some
of the Manias, like Doc goodin coming to the league,
and of course Fernando Mania in Southern California kind of
healed what had happened with Chavez Ravine and Mexican Americans
being moved out of there for the stadium to be built,
and a lot of them didn't embrace the team until
Fernando and all of that happened.
Speaker 4 (01:24:31):
For you know what, Fernando Venezuela and what he meant
to the Latino community embracing baseball. You're right in Mexicans
embracing the Dodgers. Dude, that's insane the impact that he
had in this city with the Dodgers so important moments too.
Back to the calls. Do you remember, Cavino, when you
were a kid, you told me you went to a game.
(01:24:52):
Were you on the West Coast? You went to an
Angels game? And you were there when Reggie Jackson tried
to kill the queen? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:24:59):
I get it. It was wild, dude.
Speaker 4 (01:25:02):
Thank god for Lieutenant French Rubin.
Speaker 14 (01:25:03):
Right.
Speaker 2 (01:25:03):
I was a historical moment.
Speaker 4 (01:25:05):
Thanks Frank, Jamie and Georgia. You're on the Cavino and
Rich Show. Historical or oh wa.
Speaker 13 (01:25:12):
Thunder just a second ago from Florida, but it was
Sid rings slide.
Speaker 12 (01:25:15):
But it was nineteen ninety two.
Speaker 6 (01:25:18):
Oh yeah yeah, ye.
Speaker 2 (01:25:22):
Oh really Okay, Jamie cleaning up his work. You know
how Braves fans coming.
Speaker 4 (01:25:25):
I love going through these phone calls because then my
mind wanders and I start thinking of other stuff. Appreciate you.
You think about Sid, You think about sidbreams mustache. No,
I'm thinking about like there's other moments that maybe not
that historical, but we're seeing Buster Posey, you know, on
the big stage press conferences talking about Raphael Devers and everything.
Him getting mode over changed the game period as we
(01:25:49):
know it, you know what I mean. So it's like,
maybe not that historical, being that we've been watching baseball
one hundred and eighty years, but what happened to him
changed the game as we know it. Yeah. I always
think about that with your your Yankee pitcher, Joba Chamberlain.
I remember him being the first pitcher that had a
pitch count because he was coming off an injury job.
(01:26:09):
I felt like, yeah, yeah, the Joba rules, And ever
since that, I feel like that opened the floodgates to
every pitching coach putting counts on their pitch Jaba rules,
Joba Chamberain, significant, Buster Posey, you know, barreling down catchers,
that changed everything.
Speaker 2 (01:26:23):
Historical moment.
Speaker 4 (01:26:24):
These are things that we were able to witness in
our lifetime, which make him actually a little cooler. Uh,
Tom and Ioway, you're on the Coveno on Rich show.
Speaker 1 (01:26:33):
Hey, yeah, this is Tom.
Speaker 6 (01:26:34):
Hey.
Speaker 1 (01:26:35):
I tell you what, when I was a teenager, we
got to send to Saint Louis to watch a game,
and I'm a keV fan, so I loved it again.
See Dave Dinglin hit a grand slam off the Cardinals.
Speaker 4 (01:26:45):
That is pretty dad Dave king and he.
Speaker 1 (01:26:47):
Almost did it out of the stadium.
Speaker 6 (01:26:49):
I said it was.
Speaker 1 (01:26:50):
Three and two first standing bass. I said they were
to throw him a fastball and they did. But of
course my favorite time was one of the Cobs won
the World Series. But see and Kinglin had that was
before the shirt he was he was.
Speaker 17 (01:27:03):
Yo.
Speaker 4 (01:27:04):
That guy hit like I only saw highlights. I was
a little too young for Kingman, but he was a
met when I was like a baby. Kingman was known
to hit like moonshots like I don't know if anyone
else is synonymous as far as home run hitters that
would just hit like rocket high bombs.
Speaker 5 (01:27:19):

Speaker 2 (01:27:31):
Vegas?
Speaker 4 (01:27:32):
You know rich, You're so money you don't even know it. Bro.
You know, we gotta bring that quote back. There's so
money you don't even know it, Yo, Big Mike runs
this place. I don't think young people realize how much
we quoted Swingers back in the day. Oh yeah for sure.

Juneteenth weekend we have swiggys. Yeah, the coveted Swiggy is
the first official weekend of summer. So you need that

we got coozies, we got giveaways, and by the way,
we don't slaps when it comes to giveaways. We have
nice giveaways, all right, not your standard radio BS giveaway. Now,
before we get to the game, we got people hitting
us up about quarterbacks. The list came out Yahoo Sports
(01:29:01):
decided to put I'll just say this, we don't even
need to go over the top of the list because yeah,
mahomes Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, Josh Allen, the usual suspects
are there. This Yahoo list had Gino Smith in the
top ten, it had Dak Prescott in the top ten,
and it left off guys like I don't know, Jalen
Hurts who just want a quarterback, Jayden Daniels, maybe brock Perty. Honestly,
(01:29:23):
that Dak Prescott. I think Dak bothers me more than
Geno Smith, because you can make the argument that Geno
Smith did more, unexpectedly more with less, and Dak Prescott
just has been under delivering for a long time. And
that's that's not coming from a mean place. I say
that respectfully. A right, let's go to Dave and Idaho.
Dave hanging with Coveno on rich Vegas. What's up, buddy.
Speaker 3 (01:29:46):
To play that game.
Speaker 13 (01:29:47):
But I do have a thing about the quarterbacks and
being a Cleveland Browns fan. As I am a huge guy,
a Cleveland Browns fan, I'll tell you when you forgot
oh yeah, he loft. It's Baker Mayfield, by the trying
this a whole. He will be one of the top
five quarterbacks ever in the history because of his die
hard play, because of his demeanor, because of his He's
(01:30:08):
blue collar, he belonged in Cleveland. We just made a mistake.
Speaker 4 (01:30:12):
He didn't make a mistake. I just remember when Cleveland
did give up on Baker. I remember thinking, like, I
don't know about this move. He brought Cleveland into relevance
for the first time in a long time and must
watch it. And then they were like, yo, later, my dude,
it's like dumping a girl that you were like, oh
my god, I made a terrible mistake and the new
girl stunk.
Speaker 5 (01:30:32):
Well.
Speaker 4 (01:30:32):
He got a lot hotter after the breakup too, though.
He really did got the hospital up, meaning I think
his reputation turned around a lot. He stopped being the
guy in Goofy commercials and he became the guy that
was leading a team. He became a football player, and
no one's going to debate that he's in the conversation.
We all like him here for sure. Let's go to
(01:30:53):
San Jose and say, what's up to Tony?
Speaker 12 (01:30:56):
It's it's Troy, but it's all good, guys, your.
Speaker 4 (01:30:59):
Tone, we want you to be Tony though.
Speaker 8 (01:31:01):
I don't care.
Speaker 4 (01:31:02):
All right, what's up?
Speaker 17 (01:31:05):
People use argument about putting the team on rock Perty's back,
and I mean Mahomes had weapons and or a top defense.
Any team that goes to the Super Bowl have to
have weapons or great defense or both. You know, Brock
had a terrible offensive line. Put the team on his
back actually in both NFC championship games to get to
the Super Bowl. So I don't get what it's always
(01:31:26):

like a top tier guy now, so he's got a deliverer.
Speaker 2 (01:31:41):
Well, Rich, I understand that point of view, but you
could also then make that same argument for Gino Smith.
He had one of the worst old lines in the
entire league, and he took that Seahawks team way further
than anybody thought he could.
Speaker 4 (01:31:54):
And again made them relevant. They were in the mix
for the past few years with him. So again your thought,

Week live from Vegas.
Speaker 6 (01:39:23):
Belly.
Speaker 4 (01:39:24):
Come on, man, we got some NBA going on the finals.
It's gotta be Tyreese Halliburn and what he meant to
the team. I mean just just stepping up just in
Speir and setting the tone and they just ran with it. Yesterday.
You gotta say Tyre's Alibert because we talked about him
all week, Is he gonna play? Is he not gonna play?
And then he plays and delivers that passed NYG talked
(01:39:46):
about before one of the highlights of the game. He
is our express pros pro of the week and before
you get into weekend, Hobnamin, did you say set the tone?
I did say set the tone. Can I give everyone
a little piece of advice if you could keep PG
yeah okay or PG thirteen. I have two versions of
setting the tone okay in Vegas. I feel like every
(01:40:07):
time you go to Vegas, whether it's here at the
Beautiful Circa or anywhere, I feel like the minute you
get there, you got to go to a table and
throw like one hundred bucks on one bed or a thousand,
depending on if your big time ball or not, and
immediately you'll either be up or down and feel either
awesome or crappy right away. Right The other set the
tone is if you're going away with the wife or
(01:40:27):
your girlfriend or someone you're getting on with it. I
think the minute you get to the hotel resort anywhere,
you got to get one in right away because she's
gonna put both of you in a good mood. And
then there's no pressure talking about room service, right, yeah, yes,
room service, Yes, Danny, room shots, but you're talking about yes.
I think it's a good way to set the tone
because then you guys can go do whatever you want
(01:40:47):
and there's no like, oh, we're tired, like you already
got are we saying that on the first official weekend
of the summer. Maybe you set the tone this weekend? Yes,
you go, all right, And now it's time live from
Stadium Swim CIRCA time for weekend hob nobin live in
for the weekend.
Speaker 5 (01:41:06):

denner in the palm line?

g mentioned it too. Power Moves with Shag on Netflix.
It's about his quest to make Rebox a significant brand
in life and in the NBA again. He's trying to
bring it back to when he and Ai were rocking
Rebox in the NBA. He's the president and Ai is
the VP of Rebox. Power Moves on Netflix. I got
one more episode to watch, but I really enjoyed it
and our show over Promised. Our Bonus Pod episode ninety
(01:42:25):
seven is available on Fox Sports Radios YouTube page. We
talked Stanley Cupp, We talked some hockey on Ober Promise
episode ninety seven and fundamentals versus winning? What's more important
when you're teaching kids fundamentals or wanning over promise? Fox
Sports Radios YouTube page. Just what I'm watching? If you
got little kids, do you think there's gonna be I
(01:42:46):
mean there was hyper Lee Loan Stitch, there was hype
for How To Tread and Dragon Live Action this weekend. Ilio,
if he's out the Pizza story, not the East Coast Pizza,
please say it right? Is it? Elio? Ilio's the pizza?
Elliot is the kids movie, Ello's the Little Boy. Ilios
is the New York pizza brands.
Speaker 6 (01:43:04):
Oh I want some?
Speaker 4 (01:43:06):

You're gonna resist this because you just don't pay attention
to me. Tires with Changular season cho better. Did you
watch Power Moves with Shack? I'll watch that? So watching
Tire season two is great. Now I am gonna get
around to that and call her Daddy documentary on Hulu
this weekend. That's pretty good, just to see the magic
(01:43:29):
that is Alex Cooper and see her story. You know
it's a Fillip broadcaster, so I'll check that out. And
for me, I'm in Vegas. I'm gonna get some money
going on Mets Phillies. They're tied in the NLS. They
have a three game set and the Mets have to
face Zach Wheeler tonight, so I may watch them to
sports Book later and cry. I guess the Events will
probably get beat for the seventh time.

pal KFC from Barstool talking about some of the vulgar
stuff that they're doing on this show, like they are
testing limits more than ever.
Speaker 2 (01:44:14):
Right, there's a dude who has a big herbie on
his lip and they're kissing everybody. Wow, I don't know
why they agreed to kiss this dude with a herbie
on it.
Speaker 4 (01:44:24):
There's a girl I can't even say it on Fox
Sports Radio. She does something in the bedroom, be like, yo.
Speaker 14 (01:44:29):
