Always a pleasure to be in for Dan Patrick. His
day three of the Dan Patrick Patrick And what a
(00:48):
blast we've had in Atlanta.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
Little All Star game hangover a little just just from
so much baseball, and now it's go time, Like All
Star break is always they always say it's a halfway point,
but it's not. It's like sixty games left, it's it's uh,
we're getting down.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
It's go time, showtime. Remember speaking of baseball, be part
of history. On August second, at the MLB Speedway Classic,
as the Braves take on the Reds at the iconic.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
Bristol Motor Speedway.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
For the first time ever, MLB is hosting a regular
season game in the state of Tennessee, a game a horseshoes,
now a game of baseball in Tennessee City.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
Gates open early for full damn music, food, games, and
fan experiences, including a concert stage headlined by jac Owen,
who's fantastic live. He's so good live. So tickets are
going fast and available right now at MLB dot com
slash Speedway Classic. And I think if baseball ever does expand,
Nashville's got to be the spot, right nash So let's
(01:51):
get back to let's wrap this up. We'll move on
to some NFL. But you are final thoughts and the
swing off to end the All Star Game last night.
It was awesome and there's always gonna be people that
bitch and can play and like, like you said, you
had buddies and' like it's gimmicky. I had a friend
that his first statement on our group chat was like,
dude's stupid. I'm like that you're stupid.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
I really found this to be exciting, but I didn't
like the fact that because Dave Roberts mismanaged, we're in
this situation. That's how I felt about it. But they
put these rules in place for a reason. I get it,
and it was the first time we've ever seen a
swing off.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
Well, hold on, now, did did he mismanage because if
there's a rule for a swing off, then he mismanaged nothing.
Burned through all this pictures. But if the MLB's put
rules in place for swing off, he mismataged nothing.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
I'm not a fan of that, but they have to
figure out who wins this game. You got all these
fans there waiting and.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
But yeah, my point you keep saying, miss he mismataged nothing,
because if there.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
Was, I personally think he did because he kept his
arms fresh right to get to that point, to give
every player to Karon Boone, kept people honors off in
case they need it.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
He was still ready to go. Does no one case
because it goes to a swing off A fan of it.
Speaker 4 (03:05):
If this still affected the World Series, then I would
say mismanaged.
Speaker 2 (03:08):
But I do like the end result because the swing
off was exciting.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
And then our first question as fans, He's like, why
did they choose these bats. There's no mismataging because if
it got to you he did. If it goes to
burnt through his pictures and it went extra innings, they
would have went extra innings. If it goes to a
tie game and they burned through the pictures. As a
swing off dude, as a fan, I don't like it.
I'm telling you I'm allowed to feel that way. I'm
not the only guy. Because Rich says so doesn't make
(03:33):
it true. I'm just telling you I don't like him
how he managed it, because that's not fair to Aaron Boone.
Then you know what Aaron bonche is fresh arms in
the games or Aaron Boone goold comeback. He should have
had fresh games too. But you're making no sense. If
he was going to burn through his pictures, Aaron Boon
should have burnt through his pictures. But if there's no
penalty for burning through your picture because they so assumed
(03:53):
that they were going to win this game, that Dave Roberts,
willy nilly, there you go. That's probably why you enjoy it,
because that's how you rolling life now just started throwing
people into the game instead of trying to really manage
the game. He was just like what other fans want
to see. Everyone get a chance, right, because look, it
turned out was great. But I didn't find that to
be fair for the al and Aaron Boone I just
(04:13):
did it.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
I'm not saying he broke rules. I'm saying, in reality,
I feel he mismanaged it. But sorry, less swing off,
think what you want and shove.
Speaker 3 (04:23):
It up the thing. But you're missing the point. Mismanaging
would mean there's a penalty. I'm not trying to make
it clear for you. I think people understand. I think
you're an idiot. Okay, you know what, let's take the
phone calls. Who's the idiot?
Speaker 2 (04:36):
The bonehead who thinks he's always right and he's wrong,
but he often thinks he's right.
Speaker 3 (04:41):
You can't seven ninety nine on Fox or really? Why
did he burn through the pictures? You know why? Because
they felt they had the game in the bag and
that's why. And also and also because there's no penalty
if they did. I get that, but we've never gotten
to this point. Well, I bet you Aaron Boone.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
I bet you Aaron Boone would have put more pictures
in if he was in the business of sort of
mismanaging so because of that, it's forced into a swing off.
Speaker 3 (05:08):
Am I mad at that? No?
Speaker 2 (05:10):
Because it was awesome. I don't like the end result,
but it was awesome. And as a fan, you're like, wait,
a second swing off? Why is Kyle Stower's and Miranda
in this? You know and Randy Arose arena because it
was pre selected? But I didn't know that at the time.
(05:30):
I found out later on. Oh so they pre.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
Selected it, probably never thinking it was going to matter anyway.
So it's kind of like when you're on a plane.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
Here's my understand when you're on a plane and you're
in the exit row and they're like, hey, man, in
case of emergency, uh, you're in the exit row.
Speaker 3 (05:44):
Are you good with uh? And you're like yeah, yeah,
what that raise my head?
Speaker 4 (05:47):
Going through the motion you have to take out one
AirPod and you're like, yes.
Speaker 3 (05:50):
Yes, I'm in the exit row. Yes, yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
They prior to the game say hey, if this goes
extra innings into a swing off or you wanting to
do a derby action, Hey.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
Schwarber, you want to do this?
Speaker 2 (06:01):
Yeah, yeah, whatever, because you're assuming it's never gonna happen.
Sounds like sounds like Aaron Boone mismanaged that part. Not really,
but there's a lot of people wondering, well, why wasn't judging,
It wasn't Otani in it? You know, Danny g had
the best suggestion of all, and social media was also
buzzing about the fact, why not just have the people
that participated in the home run derby be the guys
(06:24):
on standby here in case this happens because it intertwines
the derby.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
Till the actual game. Yeah, it wraps it up perfectly.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
It's like, well, these are the derby guys, Well, these
are the guys that are going to be participating in
case the swing off happens. But no, you got Brent
Rooker and Stow Wars And it wasn't even supposed to
be Stow Wars from Miami. It was supposed to be
Eugenio Suarez. He got hurt at least.
Speaker 4 (06:48):
Rooker was in the derby, and then he went on
to hit two homers out of the three chances.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
Rosearaina on Schwarber and Ronda and Pete Alonzo, I guess
was the anchor.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
I just can't imagine. I can't imagine why Aron Judge
wouldn't be one of Boone's three guys, unless he was
scared to do it, or Boone mismanaged and said it
doesn't matter, I won't need him. But there's a big
rumor going around that so many of these starters once
they got pulled, some of them left the ballpark. Someone
(07:20):
hung in the clubhouse, someone to hang with their families,
which I really don't care about. It's the All Star
gam It's an exhibition. But for people they showed a school.
Speaker 4 (07:28):
He looked like he was ready to go out clubbing.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
So when you you know, when you're in the All
Star Game and there are no stakes really other than
just your entertain the fans, and it's a fun night
of celebrating your sport like this, rumors.
Speaker 2 (07:43):
Pride on the line. No one wants to embarrass themselves.
It's the All Star Game. A lot of people are watching.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
But I but I think, uh, there's still ultimate competitors.
But Otani, there's big rumors that he wasn't even in
the stadium. You have a problem with that or not?
Speaker 4 (07:58):
Really?
Speaker 2 (07:58):
I do, yeah, kind of, But I also get it
is probably standard for something like that, And you also
have to keep in mind, what did we learn from
being on the field and watching all the fanfare and
the media, It's like, you know, a guy like Otani
probably just has to get out early or else he's
there until three am.
Speaker 4 (08:18):
They re tired, just like you guys from a long
weekend Atlanta and wanted to get back.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
To the hotel. Don't play me if I left early.
Otani left early. In our defense, we're not in the game, dude,
right my bro, I don't know if you know my bro,
show Hey, hit me up. He's like, I'm leaving, are you.
I'm like, yeah, me too. Show Hey.
Speaker 2 (08:34):
You know what, I hear a lot of a lot
of people on social media right now speculating dogging us
for leaving early. Guys, we were super pumped to be there.
No one was more excited than us. We were exhausted,
and if you really want to know, we didn't have seats.
We did have credentials that got us to really cool places,
as we discussed, and we're really grateful for that, but
we didn't have actual seats. So it's like I'm just
(08:56):
walking around trying to get a view. It's like, let's
go back and watch it.
Speaker 3 (08:59):
Even access to a lot of cool places, but no
actual seat, which.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
Is I'm reading some really wrong feedback. Look at this
Jabbroni Bubba hating on us because we left early. It's like, hey, dude,
we were working so long, all work. I use work,
you know with quotes air quotes, because we have fun
doing what we do. But we really had to get back.
We had other work to do. The truth is, and
we didn't have anywhere to sit.
Speaker 3 (09:25):
It's not like we left the playoff game early, or
we left a concert before the encore. It's not like
the people that left. It's not like the people that
left the Gibson. Yeah, it's not like this people. We're
not the people that left the Heat Spurs game. Sweet
that out from fsr's account right now. Covino and Rich
are break lights. But but we did miss I'm not
(09:46):
going to like downplay it. We did miss history and something.
Speaker 2 (09:49):
Awesome and something I wish I could tell my grandkids
one day when I'm feeding the ducks.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
You know, kids, the first time the first ever swing off,
Grandpa was in it. He was there. No, honestly, we
could have lied and said, hey guys when we were
there all right for you knowing on let's go to
a couple of phone calls and then we'll talk about
all how it all culminated. I want to hear how
it was from inside truest Field because Danny g said
(10:17):
the crowd erupted with this in excitement. Here's to Stephen
in Virginia Beach. It's up Stephen, Hey Steve, what's up?
Steven Man so.
Speaker 5 (10:32):
Saving arm when there's no possibility of extra ding?
Speaker 3 (10:37):
Yeah, he miss mad I was. That's what our buddy
Matt Minnesota, Our buddy Matt and Minnesota hit us up.
Going Caveno is so off on this. You can't miss
in your personal buddy who's hitting you up? Oh really, well, listen,
I'm telling you he's not. He's not your friend of Minnesota.
I don't like mattin Minnesota. I like uh, I like.
Everyone agrees with me, and I'll read their comments in
(10:58):
a minute. You can't find mismanagement when it's not mismatched.
So okay, but yeah, Boone, no, because Roberts just assumed
they were gonna win. That's really it. But I mean,
when you can we gonna see, we're never gonna see
eye to eye on something. You can't mismatage something when
there's no repercussion right. I wasn't vining with it at
(11:19):
that point. I was like, well, that doesn't seem fair.
It's not Aaron Boone's fault. Roberts. Try to get every
arm in there, give everyone a chance. I guess I
don't know. That's that was my first instinct. Let's go
to Kevin Culver City. What's up Kevin?
Speaker 5 (11:35):
Hey can couldn't be better guys to do the show
this morning. I mean I was over the moon watching
the game last night. It was incredible. You know, you
got all the major sports trying to figure out how
to you know, do the All Star Games, NBA, Pro
Bowl and Major League Baseball got it right. I mean,
swing off is felt like showmanship. It was like the
(11:56):
show and the biggest fight box office type of show
you could want. You got Colin Schwarber winning it on
a swing off, and I like, I don't like bringing
a home run dirty guys, because you'll get Schwarber. You
don't get along. So to close it out, I mean,
two of the biggest home run hitters in the league going,
you know, you know, backing up each other in a
swing off, and I just I can't imagine, and I
(12:17):
know it will never happen, but I'm crazy to say it.
In the World Series setting Go Tiny versus Judge and
the swing off for a World Series, it was.
Speaker 3 (12:26):
It was exciting that theatrics were incredible.
Speaker 4 (12:29):
I'm so glad keV brought that up because on the
shuttle ride back when the game was over, all of
the people were buzzing about they should end regular season
extra inning games like this, forget that automatic runner on
second I heard several people saying that out loud, and
maybe they were just caught in them up in the moment,
but I heard that from several fans that were there.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
Well, the game is based nowadays a lot on the
home run. It's exciting. Yeah, it's like it's like an
NBA slam dunk, or to a far three pointer, or
let's be honest, like a deep pass in the NFL,
a pick six. Like it's the excitement of the home run.
And I will say I feel a little bad for
Polar Bear Peede Alonzo because I agree with you there
(13:12):
he was, he was he was going to be your MVP,
and then.
Speaker 2 (13:16):
He was one for two with three RBI. Big yeah,
you bomb. You know, he was definitely your MVP of
the game. And he was the anchor of the swing
off shot.
Speaker 3 (13:27):
So if if let's just say it was tied, right,
Let's say the dude on who was the last guy
wasn't even like a big star. I mean, he was
an All Star, But who was the guy that hit zero? Ronda, Ronda,
if he would have hit, if he would have hit,
It's not that he's not a big star. He's an
All star.
Speaker 4 (13:46):
Last hit came close, and then his third strike, dude,
he came inches away.
Speaker 3 (13:51):
But I'm saying, if he hits one and it's tied,
I think if Pete Alonzo just hits one and he
walks it off and he should.
Speaker 4 (14:00):
Have been the MVP, He's the MVP because of the game.
Speaker 3 (14:02):
I think I think if Alonzo would have just hit one.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
What I'm saying, I had a bunch of thoughts in
a bunch of feelings because three players from each team,
three swings from each player teams alternate. Team with the
most home run wins the All Star Game, right, And
I'm like, man, this is wild.
Speaker 3 (14:21):
The whole thing was so cool to see. Let's say,
how to gath Garth, you're hunting Washington? What's up in Hey?
Speaker 6 (14:27):
What's going on though, is Hey, I just want to
talk about number one. So this last night it felt
like a shootout in a hockey game or a soccer game.
Speaker 5 (14:36):
So so it's sweet. Man.
Speaker 6 (14:38):
You know, that's one of the coolest.
Speaker 5 (14:39):
Things in sports.
Speaker 6 (14:40):
You know, if you're in a World Cup final or
something and then go to a shootout, man, You're everybody's
on the edge of their seat. So that's kind of
how I felt watching this last night. And number two,
I want to just want to talk about Aaron Boone.
I guess I didn't realize that they predetermined the lineup,
but man, how do you not let Judge and cal
Riley swing off if they're still there? Man?
Speaker 2 (14:59):
Like, That's these are the thoughts we all had watching it.
So I'm trying to express what I was thinking at
the time. I having a stake down to pretend that
everybody knew these rules. Everyone's full of boloney, like rich
because nobody knew that they had these things predetermined, unless
you're Tim Kirkschin or Jeff Passon.
Speaker 3 (15:19):
Because I didn't know that, and I'm a baseball fan.
Speaker 4 (15:21):
Since it was predetermined, and the managers have been around
these games before, maybe they know Judge isn't still going
to be around. Otawny's going to be in his limo
by then, and that's one of the factors in why
they picked too.
Speaker 2 (15:34):
They picked That's another point, Danny G. But here's where
I actually agree with rich again. First instinct, we're watching
from the bar. What Kyle Schwerber did three pitches, three
home runs in that high pressure moment, he even admitted
it was a high pressure moment was amazing. And how
he went down and scooped up that last home run
(15:57):
on a knee, like you mentioned, that was in But
for him to win the MVP for that, I really
do have a problem with it. I don't think he
was the MVP because he had no hits in the game.
Speaker 3 (16:08):
You're saying, this is like a separate portion of the game.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
In my opinion, this is just my opinion relaxed, So
not you, Danny G. I'm saying everybody who's like, yeah, dude,
and then he gets MVP for hitting three meatballs.
Speaker 3 (16:19):
Pete Alonzo hit a three run blast in the game
a legitimate pitcher off a legitimate pitcher, So yeah, Kyle
Schwarber is a hero and it was incredible. I don't
want to take anything away because he made it look easy.
Speaker 4 (16:31):
Dude.
Speaker 3 (16:31):
It was highly impressive. I get it, but he's the
MVP for that. He hit three meatballs for home runs. Yeah,
it was a big moment, but Pete Alonzo was still
the MVP in my opinion.
Speaker 4 (16:42):
Yeah. Dave DeMarco tweeted out this morning, Kyle Schwarber's bat
has to be on the way to Cooper's town. The
first ever perfect round in a swing off to win
an All Star Game.
Speaker 3 (16:53):
It was Oh, he was high pressure, so cool.
Speaker 2 (16:56):
Guys, don't don't please, don't misunderstand what I'm saying. But
I still think that, Yeah, that's how I That's just
how I felt, because I'm like, that was just how
you decided to win it.
Speaker 3 (17:07):
That wasn't really part of the game, was it. Or
I guess we just have to look at it differently. Look,
it's the first time we ever experienced it. These are
the things I was thinking. I did feel for Pete Lazzo,
even though you know he's had his moments. He's good.
Speaker 2 (17:20):
This is what fifth All Star Game and it's wild
to see guys like him are the veterans rich nowadays.
Speaker 3 (17:25):
Yeah, he was saying that when he was miked up.
How it's a great mix of young players and veterans.
I just wanted to point out one thing because there
are going to be people that say Aaron Boone head
rally and judge and there's sluggers Otani that didn't do
it leaving a game early. I'm not going to get
down on them. It's an all star game. Then again,
(17:46):
there are fans there watching in person and on TV.
But I think it's one of those scenarios that we've
all been through in life where you don't really think
something's gonna happen, so you don't prepare for it. Like
I'll give you I'll give you one, and I ha'd say,
because we're all flying today, but you know when they're like,
there might be turbulence and someone doesn't put their seatbelt
on and then then they might you know, spill their
(18:07):
drink or bump their head or something, or you leave
the house that example.
Speaker 4 (18:11):
Yeah, thanks, thanks for putting that out there.
Speaker 3 (18:13):
Yeah, you'll leave the house two flights today.
Speaker 4 (18:16):
Appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (18:16):
You'll leave the house right And you're like, you know what,
I'm wearing flip flops and I didn't cull my hair.
I'm not going to bump into anyone, and then you
bump into like your high school sweetheart or so, you know,
like what's a chant? You always do the what's the chances?
And I think Otani's probably in his limo, like what's
the chances? Oh I would, Oh.
Speaker 4 (18:36):
Dude, don't you think because of how this all played out,
that might change moving forward?
Speaker 3 (18:41):
Yeah, I mean bigger.
Speaker 4 (18:42):
Stars may think twice about doing what they used to do.
Speaker 3 (18:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (18:47):
Absolutely, And I think that now this may be a
stretch too, but things like the Savannah Bananas where they
lean into the entertainment side of things and they do
goofy things and they're willing to try other things, you know,
sort of even though this was a decided thing a
while ago. I feel like baseball's feeding off of those
fun theatrical antics and it works sometimes. Some of the
(19:08):
changes they've made are working. And that was when they
made a few years back that actually works.
Speaker 4 (19:13):
Oh yeah, we didn't even talk about abs and how
they used that last night and strike a ball call
was over and turned face strike.
Speaker 1 (19:20):
How cool?
Speaker 3 (19:21):
And the reaction of Edwin Diaz when he's like no, no, no,
I think that caught the corner and like you had
it did strike three? Very cool? Yeah, very cool to see.
By the way, do you mind if that were incorporated
in the regular season, if each team got what would
be the lemit? You think the balls and strike challenge
because you can't have too many because then it sort of.
Speaker 4 (19:41):
Game, but probably needs to be like three because they're
real quick.
Speaker 3 (19:44):
It's like Tapa the helmet and you find out within
five seconds. So I think three a game is not crazy, right,
I mean, who's opposed to it? Innovate or die? Right?
You gotta you gotta evolve. The guy in the light,
the guy in the market. Baseball the sport where it's
it's bad to evolve. Who have to in today's war?
Speaker 5 (20:06):
Is it?
Speaker 3 (20:06):
Who's Mellabu, Ken Agano, Ken Kyle Stowers? Yeah, Stowers. You
saw he did the tap and and it just caught
it for striking. He's like, ah, I think it's like,
I think it's cool.
Speaker 2 (20:19):
I think it's He wasn't supposed to be in the
swing off, like I said, it was Eugenio Suarez, So
again a guy that stepped up. He probably said, yeah,
I'd do it if you need me. But you know,
I think that was a pressure filled situation. Props again
to Kyle Swarber not trying to take anything away. Maybe
the people that here Pete a Lonzo got host of it.
Speaker 3 (20:36):
Maybe the people that volunteered also on the flip, you know,
saying guys like Otani and Judge like yeah, what's the
chances I won't do it? The guys are like, yeah, yeah, sure,
I'll do it. Maybe those are the people, like you said.
Maybe it's like at your workplace, it's like who wants
to be the fire and marshal of this floor of
the building and then all of a sudden, someone lights
something on fire in the kitchen. You're like, oh, man, ding,
I'm the guy it signed up. Like, so that's how
(20:57):
it felt. Yeah, that's how it felt exactly.
Speaker 4 (21:00):
Orbs on his knee for that third home run. It
was theater, the same way the night before cal Rawley
was theater. Remember when his dad turned around and it
was just all of it. Man, what a week for baseball.
Speaker 2 (21:14):
And by the way, we're allowed to gush. We're gushing.
I know, we sound like fanboys to the max.
Speaker 3 (21:19):
Bad great week.
Speaker 2 (21:20):
But baseball had a great week. And how many people
are quick to dump on baseball? How many times do
we say hmm as host of a show, Yeah, let's
lead with football because people get bored with baseball talk.
Speaker 4 (21:32):
We keep it real and and I wasn't doing the
field stuff with you guys earlier, but I stayed, you know,
in the seats, and there were MLB executives in that
row and they were really happy with how it turned out.
But what did we You guys said it yesterday. You
thought the home run derby was going to be the highlight,
and you said it on the air. So you're not
(21:53):
fanboying too much because you were honest on yesterday morning
show saying that, oh, home run Derby's the highlight. The
game's probably gonna to be boring. You said that, I did,
and I think a lot of people assume that. And
then look what happened. They do the All Star Game
better than any other sport.
Speaker 3 (22:08):
That's just a fact, DYG. To wrap it up, you
know again, we left were the worst, but so did Aaron,
Judge and Otani get off us and I said.
Speaker 4 (22:17):
There were a lot of fans I saw leaving when
it was six to three. Yeah, what was it like?
Speaker 2 (22:21):
Two things when the swing off was announced and when
it was going on and that Hank Aaron tribute.
Speaker 3 (22:28):
Gotta tell you that that was beautiful. But yeah, what
was it like when the swing off happened? Did everybody
just go nuts?
Speaker 4 (22:35):
Yeah? At first, it was a lot of confusion, and
I saw a lot of people bust out their cell
phones trying to get the TV feed so they could
have and turn the audio over, turn the volume up. Yeah,
and then once we figured out what was going on it, dude,
everybody was just so excited. And when Schwarber thought that
(22:55):
his third one was gonna go foul, I thought, because
the way he was leaning on his knee like that,
I thought that ball was going foul. It wasn't really
even that close the net.
Speaker 3 (23:03):
And when they brought out the net too, like, I'm like,
what the heck? Yeah, And then I thought, too, that's
a that's some decent amount of pressure too for the
pitching coaches. No, they have to not deliver in All
Star Games. They didn't plan up. Yeah, but they didn't
plan on that, dude.
Speaker 4 (23:17):
We didn't know who was going to be pitching either.
That's the other thing, right, Yeah, because I've never seen
this before.
Speaker 3 (23:23):
Which again three swings.
Speaker 4 (23:25):
The stadium went bananas when Schober hit that third one.
Speaker 3 (23:29):
Yeah, that was awesome. It really was well awesome. Big
win for the NL, big win for baseball, big win
for baseball, and l wins the swing off four to three.
Speaker 2 (23:38):
And now we continue with the break and we talk
football and everything else.
Speaker 3 (23:44):
Yeah, there's a couple of fun stories in the NFL today.
And there's one story that I want to get to
about Scotti Scheffler, and it has to do with just
perspective and sports and life, life work balance. What does
it all mean. We'll get to that next. As you're
feeling for Dan, Patch, Covino, and Rich.
Speaker 1 (24:02):

Congrats again to the NL, Congrats to baseball, Dan Patrick, Hatrick,
Covino and Rich live from the iHeart studios in Atlanta.
Speaker 3 (24:58):
Everything at Covino and Rich.
Speaker 2 (25:00):
So I basically was playing out my thoughts as this
was going on, because I didn't know what the.
Speaker 3 (25:06):
Hell was happening. Swing off, but it was awesome. I
was like, why the playoffs exactly? Swing off?
Speaker 2 (25:17):
I was starting back to the studio, Sam and Mark,
everybody hanging out with us.
Speaker 3 (25:21):
We appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (25:22):
The numbers eight seven seven ninety nine MS box before
we move on and took Scotti, Scheffler and the work
life Balance. Danny g tell us about the eruption of
the crowd van Halen's style at the game when the
swing off happened, and I do want to hear about
the Hank Aaron thing live.
Speaker 3 (25:38):
How was that? Because on TV it looked really cool
to Hank Aaron tribute.
Speaker 4 (25:43):
What was cool is it started as any tribute you've
seen at a sporting event would, But then the light
it paused, the screen paused, and the DJ started playing music.
It was interrupted slides spot. They wanted you to think
that the screen froze. Yeah, they were like trying to
trick all of us, and I'm like, wow, what a
(26:03):
bad time to have a glitch. And then all the
lights came down and everybody was like, whooh, okay, they
were trying to get us right there. When the lights
came down. Then it was a light show on the
field and it showed the old school and out Vin
Scully's voice calling the home run call, and then a
fireworks shot out of a cannon at the same trajectory
(26:24):
of Hank Aaron's famous seven hundred and fifteenth home run,
and that stadium because obviously Atlanta, Georgia, it's all about
Hank Aaron. You walk through Truist and there are so
many dedication plaques and there's a statue, there's a whole
hallway of Hank Aaron stuff there. So Georgia and the
(26:45):
world loves Hank Aaron in baseball, always so good with
getting to their back to their roots and honoring the legends.
And they showed his wife, who was there in attendance
after the whole thing, after the lights came back on
and the place, everybody lost their mind. And she she was,
she was emotional, she was tearing up.
Speaker 3 (27:05):
Dude. Just the visual alone on TV was insane. By
Danny G's saying, you know, to be there a whole
different story. So again, baseball.
Speaker 2 (27:13):
Doing it right, bringing some entertainment to the game, showmanship,
and we.
Speaker 3 (27:17):
Rebolve the benefits.
Speaker 2 (27:19):
So your thoughts at Covino and Rich at Fox Sports
Radio and again eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox.
Speaker 3 (27:25):
But let's talk golf. Well, not necessarily golf, I mean
it is golf, but not I mean Happy Gilmour does
come out in ten Daysman on Friday. So now you
got weekend plans.
Speaker 2 (27:38):
You got the Sandman Happy Gilmour on the twenty fifth. Yeah,
that's next Friday, next Friday. Yeah, and you got well
this weekend, you got those two fights.
Speaker 3 (27:51):
Next week, you got this coming weekend, you got a
I know what you did last summer, that's you got that.
Speaker 2 (27:56):
And you got like I said, those fights, yeah, oos
Sick and Duboi and and you also have many pock band.
Speaker 3 (28:02):
Pockey houtis funny. But Scotty Scheffler is in the news
not for golf as much as just his mindset on life.
Now we've talked about legends like Jim Carrey always comes
to mind where Jim Carrey hit a certain point in
his career and he talks about like getting to the
mountaintop and it's not as great as you think. You
saw Aaron Rodgers talk about this in his documentary You
(28:24):
win a super Bowl and then you're like, all right,
I got to where I was going to. Now what?
And I think, now what is sort of a question
great people ask themselves, because then I often asked that
about fan bases, right, like it wasn't that every Christmas
because I'm all excited about it and then it comes
and I'm like, all right, now what now what? I
(28:45):
think people feel this way as fan bases too, Like
I always say the twenty sixteen Cubs, how awesome that was?
But when your team never ever ever wins, and then
they finally do and you're like yeah, and then like
the joy of that moment dissipates, like all right, now
(29:07):
what find new challenges, new things? You know what? Scotti
Schiffler talked all about it. I want everyone to hear
his perspective and then we'll discuss analyze and taking why
why so deep and heavy? Though? Does anybody know like
why he just went on this rant. I think we're
all hitting. I think it happens when you're in your
thirties or forties, you start thinking about life. One him,
this is major reflections, Adam nowhere.
Speaker 4 (29:29):
I couldn't find the question anywhere. Everybody's just been playing
his comments.
Speaker 2 (29:34):
Like, yeah, he really really opens up Fox Sports Radio Nation,
Dan Padrick, Nation, take a list. He's about to be
thirty nine, He's about to be thirty That's what that's why,
let's hear this.
Speaker 8 (29:45):
Is it great to be able to win tournaments and
to accomplish the things I have in the game of golf.
Yet it brings tears my eyes just to think about
because it's literally worked my entire life to become good
at the sport. And to have that kind of sense
of accomplishment, I think is a pretty cool feeling, you know,
to get to live out your dreams.
Speaker 3 (29:59):
It's very special. But at the end of the day, I'm.
Speaker 8 (30:01):
Not out here to inspire the next generation of golfers.
I don't I'm not here to inspire somebody else to
be the best player in the world, because what's the point,
you know, this is not a fulfilling life. It's it's
fulfilling from the sense of accomplishment, but it's not fulfilling
from a sense of like the deepest places of your heart.
That's why I talk about families being my priority, because
it really is. You know, I'm blessed to be able
to come out here and play golf. But if my
(30:23):
golf ever started affecting my home life, or itever affected
the relationship I have with my wife or with my son,
you know that's gonna be the last day that I
play out here for a living. You know, this is
not the be all end all. This is not the
most important thing in my life. And that's why I
wrestle with why is this so important to me? Because
you know, I would much rather be a great father
than I would be a great golfer. You know that
at the end of the day, that that's.
Speaker 3 (30:42):
What's more important to me. I think for the first time.
You know, it's it's easy to mock younger generations, right
because it's all it's got. It so easy to make
fun of young gen z ers and weenials and teens.
But I do think that as you saw from our
grandparents to our parents and now I'm gen X, you know,
if you're a kid of the eighties and nineties, each
(31:03):
generation seems to you know, there's a couple things that
add right, And I think the younger generation is good
about this work life balance. I think other generations in
the past have focused so much on work really mattering
when it really doesn't. And I don't know about that.
I think a guy like Scotti Scheffler is just pointing out,
(31:25):
I work so hard for all this englf and it
really doesn't mean anything. You don't means something his wife
and kid.
Speaker 2 (31:31):
I think he just hit with the reality of Okay,
I did it, what's next, and then he realizes life
goes on, like yeah, it's great, but you still have
to move forward and find the next challenge. So it's
great for that moment, in that minute, and it's nice
to have that in your pocket and on your resume,
but you have to keep moving forward, such as life,
(31:51):
any challenge, any accomplishment, Life goes on. It doesn't stop
once you reach the mountaintop.
Speaker 3 (31:58):
Or you win it all.
Speaker 2 (32:00):
No matter what happens, life goes on, whether it be
something great or something terrible, life goes You have to
keep moving forward. He's realizing now that Yeah, you still
have to keep moving forward.
Speaker 3 (32:14):
Even though I accomplished my goal, he talks about it,
find another goal. He talks more in that there's other
clips that we don't need to puy all very deep,
but he goes on and on. I've heard more of
that where he does talk about how like like what
does it all really mean? Like being a good golfer?
What does that? What does that mean? Yeah, he's made
some good money, he's been able to provide, but in
the big picture of life, and I guess that's what
(32:36):
Maybe he smoked a dube or something. You know, sometimes
you get a little high saying a couple of drinks
and you start thinking a little more deeper.
Speaker 2 (32:43):
Or something majorly reflectives, like, hey, dude, I just asked
how you're feeling.
Speaker 3 (32:47):
Lightly. I didn't expect all that, but it was an
incredible answer. It really was. But I feel like, yeah,
he really needed to vent or open up. But I
I do think that while work is important, we got
to remember people still need to make a living. Like
it's easy to be like work doesn't matter if you have,
you know, money and resources.
Speaker 2 (33:04):
You downplayed it. Yet all these young people are pretty
much broke for the most part.
Speaker 3 (33:08):
But you see a lot of times these young people,
these young people, I mean like twenty somethings, right, you
see them on Instagram and TikTok, and they're like swimming
in Sunoas in Mexico, living their life, travel in the world.
They're traveling to countries you've never been to. And you
may be a successful, grown adult and their mindset is
(33:28):
like life experience. Man, who cares, like we got to
you live once and then if that's their priority, you
don't be crying about working money. I'm not saying that
the economy is the way it should be. And you know,
I'm not saying that you should be able to fix
the real estate market, but maybe it shouldn't be doing the.
Speaker 2 (33:51):
Backstroking to Senote in Tuloom if you can't afford it.
Speaker 3 (33:56):
Yeah, but their mindset is like, I'll just I'll charge
it matter you say, that's just the lack of priorities.
So you're saying that they, oh, they got it right.
I'm not saying that totally right. Work should probably be
more important so that you could afford to live in
today's world, but the mindset might be like, well I
live then, have I lived now? I'm just saying, like
what it went a young person mindset is like, but
(34:19):
that doesn't make it right. There's people you know that
are like, you know, younger twenty something. You might have
family members or neighbors and in your mind you're like,
they probably are broke. Meanwhile they're doing elaborate stuff and
for our generation older, like how are you doing all this? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (34:35):
You know, I go to AI for a lot of
reasons nowadays. And you guys, you guys.
Speaker 3 (34:41):
Use Chad, Yeah, Chad gptwo right.
Speaker 4 (34:45):
I looked it up and it said it's not necessarily
a fifty to fifty split of time, but rather a
state where neither work nor personal life significantly overshadows the other.
Speaker 2 (34:56):
WHOA, it's a great mindset like that. But I also
like what Scottie Scheffler said. I just wonder, man, what's
he going through? And it's kind of simple. He's like
you mentioned Jim Carrey, when you've reached a certain level
of success.
Speaker 3 (35:12):
Maintain it really is, or like, you know, find the
new goal. Yeah, it's like, well what do I do?
I work my whole life just for this. It's a
feeling not everyone gets to experience.
Speaker 2 (35:22):
But what everybody can relate to is that no matter
what it is, you have to still keep moving forward.
It sounds like a Rocky Balboa sort of quote, but
that's the truth, and I guess he's just coming to
terms with that now. So again it's Cavino and Rich
and for the Great Dan Patrick live from iHeart and Atlanta.
For over forty years, Tyraq has been helping customers find
the right tires for.
Speaker 3 (35:41):
How, what and where they drive.
Speaker 2 (35:43):
Ship fast and free back by free Road has a
protection with convenient installation options like mobile tire installation, tire
rack dot com the way tire buying should be.
Speaker 3 (35:51):
So your thoughts on Scheffler and we're going to get
to some NFL next. It was just a very deep
thought from one of the top golfers in the world,
and you're thinking to yourself, Yeah, what's this guy going through?
Or like, no, is this the mindset that the whole
clip is actually worth to listen? It's just a long one. Well,
we'll play a little more of it next, so you
want to hear more Scheffler. We'll talk some NFL wellesome fun,
(36:11):
we'll give away some prizes and it's all coming up
right here on Fox Sports Radio CNR in for the
great DP.

Speaker 2 (37:40):
I'm trying to read Iowa Sam's mind. He's back at
the studios on the ones and twos back in La.
I think he's playing collective Soul heavy because we're having
a heavy conversation.
Speaker 3 (37:50):
Bingo was his.
Speaker 4 (37:51):
Name, And don't worry, we're going to lighten the mood. Yeah,
we're going from deep to cheap, deep to cheap. Coming
up something one of our coworkers social media on fire with.
Speaker 2 (38:02):
Well, look, life's not all sunshine and rainbows, as Bomboa said,
And I think Scotti Scheffler's coming to terms with that
because he's seen the mountaintop not everybody has. And the
one thing I disagree with him on is that he's
just a golfer. Yeah, I get it, he's just a golfer.
(38:23):
But you know what, just a golfer inspires a lot
of people. Just a baseball player, you see the excitement
that brought me yesterday inspires a lot of people.
Speaker 3 (38:32):
Dreams do come true.
Speaker 2 (38:35):
I saw a story about Canelo Alvarez who inspired some
kid with cistic fibrosis who was getting bullied and you know,
he thought he had nothing to live for. And this
kid was brought to tears when he finally met Canelo
because Canelo helped him fight through his life. So you're
not just a golfer, You're not just a baseball player,
(38:55):
You're not just a boxer. You know, you're someone that
could inspire other p So it sounds like he gave
a really sincere and deep answer, but it's relatable. However,
I don't completely agree with everything. We're gonna play it
against your thoughts. But for the first time ever MLB,
(39:16):
which is why we're here, Baseball's popping live from the
iHeart Studios in Atlanta. MLB is gonna be hosting a
regular season game in the state of Tennessee, right inside
one of the world's most iconic racetracks.
Speaker 3 (39:28):

you come in here like Kramer from Boston through the
studio Bristol Motor Speedway is the Braves take on the
Reds August second and the MLB Speedway Classic. Before the action,
a pregame concert will take place near the field, headlined
by Tim McGraw. Tickets going fast, So get yours now
(39:51):
at MLB dot com slash Speedway Classic. Imagine being a
I mean, anybody in Tennessee, but especially like a teenage
kid who's never seen a Major League Baseball game. This
is your chance?
Speaker 6 (40:04):
Is it?
Speaker 3 (40:04):
Trying to get out there? That's awesome. I was just
talking one of the nice women that work here at
the iHeart Atlanta should have been talking to me, and
she was like, did you guys go to the game?
Welcome to Atlanta? Go? Yeah, we went? She goes, what
an ending? And I was like, well we left early,
and she's like, I wouldn't tell people that. Did she
give you a wedgie? She's like, you guys should lie
(40:26):
to your friends and family and say, yeah, I was there.
It was electric. We like, we said multiple reasons, but
we had other work too. Yeah. I get it, I
get it. I don't think we wanted to sit there
and enjoy the game. Of course, by the way, I
wrote that. One other thing about Scotti Scheffler before we
move on, because we got to call out a cheap coworker,
and we're gonna do midweek Major, a lot of hot stories.
(40:46):
We'll talk to NFL, we'll play a game. While you
were busking with the lady over there. We already said
all that. Oh, I'm dis messed with you, bro rights
with you.
Speaker 4 (40:55):
No, yeah, last thought on Scheffler. Last thought on Scheffler.
We already that we're going from deep to cheap.
Speaker 3 (41:01):
Yeah, so the deep he started that quote, and I
was saying, I don't expect to play the whole thing,
don't worry about it. But he does say at one
point in that whole clip, I work my whole life
for essentially a two minute celebration, and then after that,
you're like, what's for dinner?
Speaker 2 (41:19):
When that was his thought, He's like, you're a great confer,
you want it all, you got lots of money.
Speaker 3 (41:23):
When but I'm just I don't know. But his theory
is like, I worked my whole life, you accomplish it.
You win a major tournament. You know, you're holding your
golf club in the air, you're cheering. He goes when
that two minutes settles down and then your wife or
family's like, hey, that's great, what do you want to
get for dinner? You realize, like all that for a
life of training for that. Yeah. That's why when people
(41:47):
get accolades taken away, I'm always like, who cares they
experienced it? When the Astros won the World Series cheating,
when Reggie Bush at one point got his heisman taken away,
I remember always thinking like, who cares they lived that moment?
Like living on living the moment is the experience. You
could take it away, but you can't take away something
that actually happened. Like I said, it's like when you're
(42:08):
in a courtroom and someone says something crazy and the
judge goes strike down from the record, like I just
heard him say it, and you think I can't forget it,
so they go Scotti Scheffler more in life than just
being ridiculously good at golf and good looking.
Speaker 2 (42:24):
I appreciate the honesty, but it does leave a sour
taste to people who are really striving for something. So
because really what he's saying is, you mean, all the
things I'm striving for don't mean Diddley squat.
Speaker 3 (42:37):
They kind of don't.
Speaker 2 (42:38):
Yeah, but you gotta like switch your mindset and find
other challenges to fulfill you.
Speaker 3 (42:43):
The challenges are trying to find the cheapest food you
could possibly find, or happiness doesn't rely on your accomplishments,
it's really within you know, not to get too deep,
but that's it. And we're going from deep to cheap. Yeah,
there's a coworker Fox Sports that is the cheapest guy
on planet Earth. We're gonna call out our buddy Rob Parker,
who from The Odd Couple. Coming up next, Plus we'll
(43:06):
talk some NFL and we're getting away some prizes. We'll
play a little game. We'll play Last One Standing this
hour on Fox Sports Radio CNR in for DP
