Baseball's All Star break is over, but I think that
there will be lasting memories from what we saw in
Atlanta over the last couple of days. Home Run Derby

(01:33):
was a great show, and then obviously how the All
Star Game ended with their home run swing off and
Kyle Schwarber ending up hitting his three home runs on
his three swings. A lot of positives to take from
an All Star weekend in Hotlanta.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
Well, I mean my biggest takeaway with seeing Cavino and
Rich at the Home Run Derby.

Speaker 4 (01:50):
Bush whacking them their way on camera multiple times.

Speaker 3 (01:55):
Boys looked like they were having a good time, you
know you and I were filling in for them yesterday.
I know I said this a little bit for people
who were listening in this time. SLOT thought the last
four days were a great celebration for baseball, you know,
bringing out Joe Torri, the miked up players, Clayton Kershaw
being there.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
I know you referenced the Hank Aaron.

Speaker 3 (02:16):
Thing being a little weird since it wasn't at Atlanta
Fulton County Stadium, But overall, I thought it was an
awesome couple of days. I'm excited for the second half
of the year, and uh, yeah, it's been a fun
couple It wasn't weird.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
It was just misleading.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
Que Yeah, I felt because like if we just pretended
we were Cavino and Rich but we weren't.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
It was like, oh, hey, Cavino, what are you doing?
What have you been up to? Yeah, I'm rich.

Speaker 4 (02:41):
Like there's something about it, like I get the historic
significance of the spot that the home run.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
Happened, it just didn't happen.

Speaker 4 (02:48):
I think, yes, And I think the crazy thing about
it when you get to be Aaron's age and when
you get to be my age, you're younger than me,
So I think it's stranger for you now when team
go through a stadium that you remember being built and
go to another one. Sure it's one of those reminders
of your age. There are a lot of different things.

(03:09):
When you hear of guys that you were fans of
in the NBA and the NFL and their son or
in college football or basketball, or daughters playing college hoops
or something, you're like, whoa, I'm getting old, and I
feel that way with the stadiums. So that's what the
thing with Atlanta was. Not only was it not the
previous stadium, it was two stadiums ago and we were

(03:30):
still doing this.

Speaker 3 (03:30):
Well, I'll tell you when they opened this most recent one,
that was my first thought was like, didn't they just
open Turner Field? Because you know, obviously, being a child
of the nineties, the Braves were quite literally the only
sports team that were on every single game, and certainly
in the summertime, if you wanted to watch sports, you
watch the Braves on TBS. So I do remember the
Fulton County days. I do remember Turner Field being built,

(03:53):
and I was even surprised two three four years ago
when they opened this most recent stadium.

Speaker 4 (03:56):
It was so that was that was my only thing.
I thought they did it nice, that they did it well,
it was unique, but again, it just wasn't necessarily the
ballpark when.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
The Rangers got their new ballpark.

Speaker 4 (04:05):
Another one like I remember when the ballpark in Arlington, Yeah,
it was being built, absolutely, so there's something with that.
That was the only thing that I thought was just
different because it wasn't the same ballpark. But by and large,
really good tribute, well done, really good weekend in baseball,
well done. It also leads us to a conversation that
we have had throughout and we're going to talk cheaters today.

(04:26):
We're going to talk a whole different way of cheating
later on in the show, but I bring up cheaters
because there was a conversation we had earlier in the
week on this show filling in for Cavino and Rich
and Jason Stewart was here at the time, and Jason
was really put off by last Saturday, Barry Bonds of
the San Francisco Giants was honored throwing out the first

(04:47):
pitch at the Giants Dodgers game in San Francisco, and
Jason's point was like, are we really honoring steroid users?
And there was a conversation that we had about that topic.
But Monzi was alongside me on and Mancy you brought
up the point in support of I'll just say in
support of Bonds, and you could correct me if I'm wrong,

(05:08):
But basically the crux of your argument was what that.

Speaker 1 (05:11):
I have no problem with it.

Speaker 5 (05:13):
Yeah, you cheated quote unquote, Now you did, because I
find it that I, even though you juiced up, you
still have to hit the pitch, So I find it
way worse when you know what pitch is coming, which
is what happened in twenty seventeen.

Speaker 4 (05:28):
And they were talking about the cheating aspect of the
Houston Astros. So that cheating was much more malicious than
what Barry Bonds was doing where he still had to
hit the.

Speaker 1 (05:39):
Ball out of the ballpark.

Speaker 4 (05:40):
Now, I'm not trying to pit a Manzi versus Aaron
sort of deal that will happen coming up later this show.
By the way, we've got in the neighborhood coming up
later on that game. Yes, you will team up with
Burshing or Manzi Torres, you got Iowa Sam. Yes, yes,
you guys will be a team. But do you agree
with Manzi's thoughts that, Like, I don't want to say

(06:01):
forgive Bonds, but he still had to hit the baseball.

Speaker 3 (06:04):
Oh yeah, that part indisputable. I mean, I think that's
the argument for anyone that used steroids. I think the
question is the being honored part. And I guess my
argument would be, is it different the Giants honoring him
versus like major League Baseball?

Speaker 1 (06:19):
You know, Like that was my argument.

Speaker 3 (06:21):
Yeah, like to use like a college sports reference, Like
there are coaches that got caught quote unquote cheating in
the old pre nil era that are revered in some places,
you know, even though to the broader audience they're considered cheaters.
And Barry Bonds is an icon in San Francisco. Regardless
of what he had to do to get the stats.

(06:43):
To Manzie's point, he still had to put bat to
ball to have the success that he had.

Speaker 4 (06:49):
And that is still a topic of conversation, not the
HGH or the steroids, but the putting the bat to
ball and how difficult it is. And I think that
we saw in the home run swing off it's not
so it's easy for Kyle Schwarber to do it. But
even if you're getting VP practice, you're not hitting every
single ball out of the park. And I think that
lends evidence to what Monty was saying. So we ask

(07:10):
you are faithful seeing our listeners, what do you think
is the most difficult portion of sports? What is the
difficult the most difficult thing in sports? Mookie Betts has
an opinion on it. He was on All the Smoke.
We're gonna hear from that in the second. But if
you want to weigh in eight seven seven nine nine
on Fox, it's eight seven seven nine nine to six
sixty three six'. Nine or you can Hit aaron up

(07:31):
At Aaron Underscore. Tours you can find me At dan Byeron.
Fox you feel that hitting a baseball is the most
difficult thing to do in. Sports let's hear from The
dodgers great outfielder on The all The smoke podcast.

Speaker 1 (07:43):
Earlier is hitting the baseball and hardest thing?

Speaker 6 (07:45):
SPORTS i think It's, YEAH i think it's by.

Speaker 1 (07:49):
FARTHER i think that and being a cornerback in.

Speaker 6 (07:51):
Football, Oh i'm sure Corner like that's a different. Athlete,
yeah that's.

Speaker 1 (07:57):
Right the two hardest positions in.

Speaker 7 (07:58):
Sports to, ME i, mean too artest to be a cornerback.

Speaker 1 (08:01):
And hit a.

Speaker 6 (08:01):
Baseball, YEAH i feel like you have a better. Chance
Now i'm not debating. Anything you have a better chance
looking up in the quarterback making a bad throw or
something and stopping the. Receiver there is no chance you're
getting lucky to hit a. Baseball baseball is LIKE i
do it every, day And i'll be hitting that.

Speaker 4 (08:20):
Thing Interesting And Stephen jackson was the one that Said
Matt barnes is a great high school football player and
could have played college football if he wanted, to instead
took the basketball. ROUTE i was surprised to hear cornerback
thrown into that conversation By. JACKSON i also think that
it's just two completely different things when you're talking about
trying to stop another human as opposed to just doing

(08:42):
something of swinging a bat trying to hit a ball like,
That like to me's they're completely.

Speaker 1 (08:48):
Different.

Speaker 3 (08:50):
Yeah, NO i think the argument for corner is like
you're reacting to what somebody else is. Doing BUT i
THINK Tooki betts's point, LIKE i don't, know it's it's
hard to, explain but, YES i want to put playing
corner necessarily at number, two or if you'll allow me.
TO i wouldn't even put it at number. ONE i

(09:11):
think being a good golfers so, hard LIKE I i
am pretty. Athletic Hate bragg plays some sports in high
SCHOOL i can't hit a golf ball. Straight it's it's
on the. Ground it's. THERE i can't hit it straight
right into the.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
Woods he just, said it's on the, ground it's. There,
Yeah LIKE i.

Speaker 3 (09:31):
Know it's like it's coming at. You there's, spin there's,
twist it's, rising it's. FALLING i think being good at, golf,
LIKE i think it would be harder to be like
one of the top fifty golfers in the world than
be A Major league baseball, player not just because there's more.

Speaker 4 (09:47):
Spots i'm not, saying And, MONTE i didn't even tell
you WHAT i thought this. WEEK i don't think it's.
CLOSE i think golf is the most. DIFFICULT i think it.
Is it is the for trying to accomplish and to
play it at at the level that it needs to be.
PLAYED i think it's the most difficult because of What aaron,

(10:09):
said is it appears so.

Speaker 5 (10:11):
SIMPLE i don't. DISAGREE i don't. DISAGREE i JUST i
think hitting a baseball IS i don't. KNOW i even
want to say that's a little bit, different because you're,
right Like i've talked to you HOW i can't hit.

Speaker 1 (10:23):
That stupid little ball and WHEN i do.

Speaker 8 (10:25):
It it feels so.

Speaker 5 (10:26):
Good it is the greatest feeling when you make contact
with that stupid little.

Speaker 4 (10:29):
Ball that's that's the thing is IF i lobbed one
up to you playing, softball you could hit, it, Yes
but if you're standing in the batter's, box with ba's,
box With Jacob, mazerowski it's going to be much more.
Difficult AND i think that's what we're, Saying like With,
bonds like He bonds WASN'T i, mean his strike zone
was the size of a thimble first of, all and
a lot comes with, That but, ultimately the ball sitting

(10:52):
there never. Changes the ball's not coming to, you like
if you're playing, golf it's not coming to you faster
than it was the previous. Time like it's always. There Are,
sure you're hitting different clubs and trying to do, it
but just as a, Whole i'm With, aaron AND i
don't even think that it's it's, close because, again it's
just sitting right. THERE i think it's the toughest thing

(11:13):
to do in sports.

Speaker 3 (11:14):
As, well and it's it's like so unexplainable as to
why it's so hard because it is sitting, There but
it is to me.

Speaker 4 (11:21):
The simplicity of. It, yeah just of just breaking it
down and looking And i'll give you another. One BUT
i do want to go To, patrick who's In, spokane
who wants to Join cavino And. Rich we're up and
at him here on This thursday. Afternoon, Patrick welcome Into
cavino And. Rich what do you think is the most
difficult thing to do in? Sports?

Speaker 1 (11:38):
Hello, Yo, patrick what's?

Speaker 7 (11:40):
Up? HEY i think playing hockey's got to be one
of the hardest, things but one of the hardest sports Man,
like my daughter skates and it's amazing to want so
what some of these kids can do on. Ice they're,
skating people are trying to take them. Out the fuck's.
Moving it's all over the darn. PLACE i don't, know
BUT i hear on, golf, man because like you, said

(12:01):
it's right, there and to be consistent and hit the
ball where you actually want it to, go it's it's
pretty damn.

Speaker 4 (12:07):
Tough but just the fact Of, PATRICK i. Agree i'm,
sorry keep on talking Over. Patrick one of the most
difficult things in sports is to not talk Over. PATRICK
i just kept on doing it there at that. Point
one of the most difficult things for me to do
in sports is to shut, up just to not. Talk, Sorry,

(12:27):
PATRICK i don't know what's more difficult than.

Speaker 1 (12:29):
HOCKEY i.

Speaker 4 (12:30):
Understand like when you See connor McDavid do what he
did and you're, like, OH i did it on.

Speaker 3 (12:33):
SKATES i would, say have you ever sat like on
the lower level of AN nhl game and you do
like the speed that they're going, at their ability to
stop on a. Dime To patrick's, point you got this
puck moving in and. Out, YEAH i you, Know it's
just it's hard to say because everything takes a different skill, set,
right golf ball, ground but you know you got to

(12:57):
put it in this this little tiny hole fourundred yards.
Away hockey the, speed the, power you, know two hundred
and twenty five pound guys flying at you full. Speed
baseball can, curve it can, slide it can, sink it can.

Speaker 1 (13:10):
Rise they're all.

Speaker 3 (13:12):
Different AND i Think patrick brings up an interesting point
because if you've ever been lucky enough to sit like,
again lower level of AN nhl, game especially middle, ice
the speed at which those guys are going is kind of.

Speaker 4 (13:24):
Crazy the funny, thing, TOO i thought about hockey is
what's more difficult being a, center a wing or being the,
goalie you, know and trying to like the like the
focus of a goalie in trying to just figure out
where the puck, is in trying LIKE i And i've
never played AND i can't, skate SO i can't even

(13:46):
have any true analysis of. It BUT i would just
think even just of trying to be in. Net maybe
Maybe i'm not saying being a soccer goalie is, easy
BUT i think that's, harder you, Know, yeah like.

Speaker 1 (13:58):
As you're defending more.

Speaker 9 (13:59):
Space, yeah and you don't have like equipment on to
help you deflect. Shots, sure just you and your hands
and your. FEET i let's go To, Miami. EDWARD i
will try not to talk over. You what do you
got for us? Here On convin And Rich.

Speaker 10 (14:13):
It's unequivocally hitting a.

Speaker 7 (14:14):
Baseball it's not even.

Speaker 10 (14:16):
Close if you guys failed seven out of ten dimes
at your, job it wouldn't be your job. Anymore and
to get the comparison accurate across the. Board when people, say,
oh playing hockey is as difficult or aspects of football
playing a, cornerback you're talking about an entire, position not
one aspect of the game that everyone must. Do that's

(14:40):
the comparison. Point if you're saying something is as hard
as hitting a, baseball it has to be something that
happens every single time in that, game for every single.

Speaker 3 (14:50):
Participant SO i have two comments on that great call.
Back great, call, yes BUT i think it's a great.

Speaker 1 (14:57):
Call but two. Things one.

Speaker 3 (15:00):
The seven out of ten, times it's kind of a
bogus thing to, say because you can hit the ball
right on the seams and it can be an, out
and you can barely dink it and it can be a,
single you, Know so it's like that doesn't really add.
Up and then the other thing is with, golf you

(15:20):
would know this better THAN i. Do but how many
guys shoot above? Par that's no different than striking out
in baseball or maybe popping out or grounding. Out is,
hey this is the baseline average of what you're supposed to.
Do and There's Phil, Mickelson Tiger, Woods rory, McElroy whoever
eight shots above that and going home on A friday

(15:41):
because they can't even hit the baseline of what's.

Speaker 4 (15:44):
Expected one of the things that stuck with me in
life Was Peter, jacobson who now does broadcasting FOR. Nbc
But jacobson was a well known player on. Tour jacobson
a bigger, guy taller, guy bigger, frame and he said
that he was closer to playing in THE nba Than
Michael jordan would be to be playing on THE Pga.

(16:05):
Tour AND i don't mean Like jacobson being like a
tall power for. It i'm just saying it's just kind
of built in, more you, know six' two probably and
with a little size. On him but he said that
he would have a better chance playing IN the Nba
Than michael jordan would in playing ON The. Pga tour
and This Is michael jordan Who played we know How
Much michael jordan played golf during the prime of. His
career and his point was the guys that play at

(16:27):
the top level of golf are. So GOOD and i
think that's one level of this argument that there's you
can't even dream of how good these. Guys are just
look at their club face and look at the where
on where their ballmark is on their irons like it's.
A dime it's. It's perfection they hit that spot every.
Single time, but again there's a Difference if i'm lobbing
up a Softball to manti as opposed to throwing one

(16:48):
hundred miles per, hour, Fastball buyer it's gonna have a
different different time every single time the ball is on
the ground and maybe in the, fair way maybe in,
the rough and maybe in, The sand but that condition
of hitting the actual golf ball does.

Speaker 1 (16:59):
Not, Change WELL.

Speaker 3 (17:00):
And i, Think TOO and i know this is like
the most baseline conversation that. A sport, you know you
can have, in sports what's the hardest thing? To do
but there is levels to, the conversation right, it is
are you talking about could you get to the highest level?

Speaker 1 (17:15):
And compete? Could? You then, you KNOW cause i think.

Speaker 3 (17:18):
There's, more uh, YOU know i think there's a difference
between hitting a baseball and being a dude that steps
into a batter's box against somebody throwing one hundred at
the elite highest level of. The sport you Know what, i'm, saying, like,
like yes is it easier to hit a stationary golf
ball than it is a one hundred mile an hour
fastball From Show heyo tani. Of course so IT'S like,

(17:41):
i think even though this is, you know, fun conversation,
you know we're getting good calls from, The AUDIENCE like
i do think there is a difference between what are
we actually? Talking about are we talking about playing at
the highest? Level whatever on.

Speaker 4 (17:51):
And, on okay look we're gonna we're gonna put a
pause on this because we've got some breaking news at
the news Desk from mons, to blaniosponse what do you.

Speaker 10 (17:58):
Got breaking News From?

Speaker 11 (18:03):
Fox, sports, Well guys SHAMS of espn reporting NINE Times
Nba All Star damian lillard is finalizing a, three year
forty two million dollar contract to.

Speaker 5 (18:16):
Return To The.

Speaker 12 (18:17):
Portland trailblazers the deal is expected to include a player
option in the twenty twenty seven to twenty twenty eight
season and a no. Trade clause the grass is not,
always greener.

Speaker 1 (18:27):
Good, for dame Good for dame. On that As a,
BUCKS fan I just i can't. Hate it so this is.

Speaker 3 (18:36):
The couple that's been married since like high, school sweethearts
like forty six, years old forty four, years old, LIKE
yeah i, don't know maybe, we should, you know and
they move out into separate apartments, or whatever and then
like a year later, they're like what are? We doing
we were always supposed to, Be together like that's that's kind, of.

Speaker 4 (18:53):
Yeah, it, is, YES yeah i THINK that i think
he will be applauded throughout the league. For THIS and
i think there's something of Going to milwaukee and doing
what everybody had told you to always, Do, it yes
and you didn't want to, do it you didn't want to.
Do it finally it was maybe best for. The team
it's also.

Speaker 1 (19:13):
Hard Plays, all right it's time to, Do it i'm gonna.

Speaker 4 (19:16):
Do it And to, manci's point like the grass isn't
greener and that's and That's what's THAT'S what i think
is just so great about it is that unfortunately he
had to learn, a lesson but he didn't go ring
chasing in the latter years OF his.

Speaker 3 (19:34):
NBA career i always thought the conversation on him was
very unfair because he tried to stick. It out he
tried to stick. It out he tried to stick. It
out and then to, your point the organization was in a.
Different place AND but i feel like there were so
many players that, demanded trades and if you remember, early on,
you know he kind of insinuated that he wanted to

(19:56):
be With The miami heat and LIKE and i felt
like there was like a re oh who is damed
to dictate where, he GOES and i think that to
me always was like a mounting thing of all of
these guys asking, for trades but because he was kind
of one of the, last ones he kind of got
the brunt of it from all the other guys that didn't.
Get CRITICIZED and i, ALWAYS said i don't understand. The

(20:18):
criticism he's, thirty six thirty seven. Years old he's done
everything he can and maybe he was. THIRTY four i
don't know at the, exact age but early to. Mid
thirties he's been there his. Entire career he tried to make.
It work he could have demanded the trade, four, five,
six seven eight. Years ago he wanted to stay. The,
organ it's of course it's his prerogative to go try win.
Somewhere ELSE but i do think it is cool to, Your,

(20:39):
point dan to bring it back.

Speaker 1 (20:40):
Full circle He's.

The tj watt deal get Done?

Speaker 1 (22:45):
In, pittsburgh yeah.

Speaker 2 (22:46):
That's the way you frame it is a, good way
because so Any interview i've done HERE, ON fsr i
shot down any possible trade it was going.

Speaker 1 (22:54):
To happen they were never.

Speaker 2 (22:55):
Considering it but the longer it, went on the more people, would,
question well?

Speaker 1 (23:00):
What's good would?

Speaker 2 (23:01):
They, listen no they made it very clear publicly and
PRIVATELY that tj wattwould end his career As. A steeler
but my understanding the holdup was and why didn't get
done maybe a couple of, months ago was the guarantee
and the average.

Speaker 1 (23:15):
Per.

Speaker 2 (23:15):
Season guys it really came down to amount of years for,
cap purposes though cash is always more important, than cap
but just to be able to spread the cap hit
out and. His, age guys he does turn thirty One.
In October and i'll be honest, With you i'm really
surprised at. Contract negotiations they, Typically, GO look i think
it's going, To. Go suth it, takes longer but man
to do forty one million, a season which IS the,

(23:37):
espn report higher than THE number i would. HAVE believed
i had him pegged at thirty seven or. Thirty eight
the guarantee it's, signing now my understanding is it's the
large shigning bonus first two years, fully GUARANTEED and i
don't know how much is fully guaranteed in. Your three
but this is a tremendous job by his AGENT. At
caea this is to get this deal. Done now Now

(23:58):
obviously parsons gets his, deal done that's going to. Get
done maybe Now that parsons knows this and His Agent
david mulgetta. Sees this they have to be loving forty
one Million because parsons was going to get over.

Speaker 1 (24:12):
Forty million but how much?

Speaker 2 (24:13):
Over, Now Well, jerry jones because, He's waited parsons has to.

Speaker 1 (24:17):
Get more he's.

Speaker 2 (24:18):
Way younger let's not forget he's significantly YOUNGER.

Speaker 7 (24:21):
Than.

Speaker 1 (24:21):
Tj, watt well.

Speaker 3 (24:23):
Let me ask you about another thirty plus year old,
Defensive Lineman. Von, Miller Yeah washington commanders feels like they're
all in on this Jayde and daniels'. Rookie contract is
there any other way to take it than its win
now with the quarterback on the.

Speaker 2 (24:37):
Rookie, Deal, no well this signing has nothing to do.
With it this is simply if you look at, their
guys if you really look, At It von miller may have.
Nothing left he's, mid thirties he hasn't been same SINCE the.
Acl injury but you know what they're trying to do
here is just when you look at their edge, rusher
group it's very, very average like they have enough for.

(24:58):
Their Rotation towrance armstrong WAS an. I Signing dan quinn
coached Him In. Dallas, CLEVELAND farrells i mean. Surprised me
he was a total bust as a first round pick For.

Speaker 1 (25:10):
The raiders he's a good.

Speaker 2 (25:12):
Rotational End dietrich wise comes over For, the patriots, good
player but they don't really have any high end.

Speaker 1 (25:18):
Pass rushers that's all. This was it's a one, year
deal not a lot.

Speaker 2 (25:21):
Of money, so yeah this this does, help him, you
know get the depth going and the rotation, and look
they have To see i'll be at their training camp
probably for two or three days. This summer let's see
if he has. Anything left that's. The, Thing guys Remember
the bills. Cut him bill's pass rusher has not. Been
Good the bills were done. With him it just didn't.
Work Out von miller is the oldest edge rusher In

(25:42):
The National football league at.

Speaker 1 (25:43):
Thirty, six, JEEZ well i don't know if you have.

Speaker 4 (25:47):
Anything left he's, Been, spots broncos Wins A, super bowl
ring With, the rams, you know the ten Year. In
buffalo if he doesn't. GET hurt i always wonder. ABOUT
that i felt that that was the biggest Deal, when
buffalo when he got Hurt on thanksgiving in that game Against, The,
lines well if It, was thanksgiving it definitely was against.
The LINES but i think that's when he. Got HURT. J,

(26:08):
C yeah i thought that changed everything, for him but.

Speaker 13 (26:10):
He.

Speaker 2 (26:10):
Did dad let me add this With von miller, number
one he Should be Hall of. Famer, someday, YES absolutely
i don't think there's any question.

Speaker 1 (26:17):
About It.

Speaker 2 (26:19):
The bills felt that he was their missing piece because
and by, the way their past rush is still not.
Very good they really thought because they thought that he
had clearly had something left in the tank when he
came over From the rams and he signed there in twenty.
Twenty two, and then as, you know he TEARS His
acl he's really not. The same it's, very rare Like
What brandon graham did With the eagles this past season

(26:41):
before the first triceps indury.

Speaker 1 (26:43):
Tour twice But.

Speaker 2 (26:45):
What brandon graham did at thirty five years old. IS
ridiculous i mean he now here's the thing you could
you Could Play, von miller let's say, the realistically maybe
a third of the snaps that. Might work, but again
they're really not going to know until we get deeped in.

Speaker 4 (27:00):
Training Camp adam kaplan joining us Here On Fox. Sports
radio another news Item that monsie brought to our attention
earlier today Was That anthony richardson is reportedly fully healthy
For The, indianapolis Colts And chris ballard Said in january
that there's going to be an.

Speaker 1 (27:16):
Open competition Is Is daniel jones in the lead?

Speaker 4 (27:20):
Right now because Of what richardson had to. Deal with
how Do the colts take this News that richardson now
seems to be back from his.

Speaker 1 (27:26):
Shoulder, Issue well i've.

Speaker 2 (27:27):
KNOWN this i mean they've had access to all everything
with him there working out on his Own in ota
is what it, looked like and also with. His agents
so it is. REALLY interesting I give. BALLARD credit i
know he gets a lot. Of criticism they've been very
average since he's been the. General manager that's absolutely. The
case but he could not hide from the Fact that richardson's.

(27:51):
INCREDIBLY mature i know he sort of, made excuses but
he did admit. It, That look richard's got to. Grow
up so when you look at, this situation they are
fully expecting rich shouldn't be. Their start let me just make,
this clear but they're not handing him the. Job anymore
he goes in as, the guy but they'll probably split
reps to a certain point and if he doesn't, look

(28:11):
good guys. Game. On now the contract for, You know
jones isn't. Very high it's, you know he didn't sign for.
Starters money but was it like FOURTEEN or i think.
IT'S fourteen i think it's fourteen LAST time i look
at you're. Exactly right so it's fascinating that that's. A
team they're kind, of like they're kind of Like the
dolphins are stuck, In neutral like they're like they can't

(28:33):
get into the next year because they just don't know who.
They are and Again Under, chris ballad they've been. Extremely
Average and ballad's got the benefit the doubt over the
years with The, late mersey but we got to see
how his daughters kind of handle. This situation this team's
fascinating because they really should be better than they, have
been and for, whatever reason obviously the quarterback Situations Since

(28:53):
sandred luck retired has not worked out, at all and
that's a big part.

Speaker 3 (28:57):
Of IT so i have a question that makes sense in,
my head kind, of convoluted but hopefully it.

Speaker 1 (29:01):
Comes out do it go for?

Speaker 8 (29:03):
It?

Speaker 1 (29:03):
All Right? Ben?

Speaker 3 (29:04):
Johnson yep will his impact be felt more Positively in
chicago or Negatively? In detroit in, other words.

Speaker 1 (29:14):
GREAT question i. THINK both i. Think both you KNOW
what i like about? That Too is kaplin said.

Speaker 4 (29:18):
GREAT question a lot of times the questions are awful
and the guests will say that. GREAT question i TELL
you i don't think it's a good YEAH when i
just don't. One yeah let me here's, The, thing aaron
let me. Explain, This okay i'm gonna give you a
couple good. Nuggets here so someone who Worked With ben
johnson over the years With the lions told me that
you will not it will not take long for the
players to either buy in or he, didn't say Turn On,

(29:41):
ben johnson but but not to an Amount Because ben
johnson is. Super intense her coaches, very hard.

Speaker 1 (29:50):
And he's on. His players he's on, his coaches.

Speaker 2 (29:54):
And you're not gonna have to wait very long if
it's gonna Work With kayleb williams and. Their, players, okay
now play just spoken very Well Of ben johnson. So
far he's because the previous Regime Entner matt eberfluss's it.
Didn't work They weren't they didn't coach the players, very
hard and there was not enough. Buy in so that's
that's so he should have a very. Positive impact BUT
like i, said here it may. Not work i'm on

(30:17):
the side that it. Will work and then With, The
Lions john morton did not. Call it didn't do a
great job With the jets so that the players did
not buy in when he was the play caller For
the jets some years ago in. My reporting but he's
a very. Smart guy he did call plays in COLLEGE
at usc but he has not proven he's Innovative Like.
Ben Jonson ben johnson did one of the all, time

(30:39):
JOBS and i got To Give dan. CAMPBELL credit i
remember hearing That When ben johnson, was promoted people, are
like who is? This guy nobody knew anything. ABOUT him
i got To Give dan. Campbell credit that was one
of those, like, wow really and. Guess what he became
arguably the NFL's best, play caller certainly. Top THREE so
i would Say that i'm gonna say it's, Good. Boy

(31:02):
aaron it's such a, good question but it's hard to
give you a straight answer because but there's going to
be Impact For ben johnson to. Both teams but who
could have a bigger Impact on it's got to Be
the bears Only Because, Caleb williams he's. SO gifted i
know the numbers. Were bad some of the games are horrific,
last season, but man some, of, them guys when it

(31:25):
when when you people might forget there are some games
where he played, really well but it just you got
overshadowed by all the.

Speaker 1 (31:31):
Bad Football and i'm just gonna end.

Speaker 4 (31:32):
On this SO if i Said, to adam What's the
bears record going, to be that's an awful question because
it's just.

Speaker 2 (31:40):
Really, bad well it'll be over under if you have
the over, under Total which i'm going to guess the
seven a.

Speaker 4 (31:44):
Half, Roun yes but the point is is you wouldn't
have the over, under total so it would be a cool.
Completely question so you would say it's a. Stall tactic you, would,
say oh that's a good question because it came out,
of nowhere because and Then in.

Speaker 1 (31:58):
Aaron's was so thoughtful though that's.

Speaker 4 (31:59):
All, Art yes That's what, i'm saying Is that That's
what i'm trying to decipher between when a guest usually says,
good question it actually means that it's not that great of. A,
Well no what it is IS that i THINK sometimes
i Think sometimes dan is that sometimes, guests, patronize oh,
good question.

Speaker 2 (32:14):
Good, QUEST no i mean you've known me five or,
six years if you kind OF know i don't really.
Hide anything SURE if i have my own way of
saying you, Know, what no, YOU know i, JUST think.

Speaker 1 (32:23):
I THINK what. I think what happens as guys is
now they just it's Like.

Speaker 2 (32:27):
The, steelers Okay the Steelers With aaron rodgers and what Extension. And,
metcalf oh they're they're going. For, it well what do
you what are?

Speaker 8 (32:38):
They?

Speaker 2 (32:38):
DOING yeah i mean they make the make. The playoffs
but every YEAR now i would, say this they haven't
won a. Playoff games it's twenty. Sixteen season they lost
in twenty seventeen when when they had the, best record
so IN THE nfc afc they had number one seed.
They lost so they lost. Pretty early but it's. It's,
fascinating No the steelers will be, more competitive no doubt.

(33:00):
About it but the kid that they really like who
had had what knock gone at the Steal Is, nick
herbig who was in his third years an Intrusher. From
wisconsin they absolutely. Love him who's guy's got a Real
chance and unfortunately this impacts his career Because if wat
plays the three years out and he'll be. Thirty Four
Then nick krbrigg will be ready to be gone because
his Contract.

Speaker 1 (33:20):
Will this is how You know kaplin's a.

Speaker 4 (33:22):
FOOTBALL head i was just talking about good question and
he ends up answering How the steelers are going to
get younger and get after. The quarterback you're gonna get
more of That on. Sunday noon he's Got, Nine pacific
Me And adam kaplan teaming up having some Fun As
mike harmon is off In soccer land taking care.

Speaker 1 (33:38):

it was evil and somehow he smashed it on, the
green knocked him from fifteen feet and it's A late birdie's.
Under paw now with one hole, to play he feels

Radio Sec media days wrapping Up in atlanta today in
advance of the twenty twenty five college, Football Season aaron
torre is your biggest takeaways from what we saw from
the sixteen schools that make up.

Speaker 1 (35:13):
That, league.

Speaker 4 (35:15):
Interesting that's all you have to say about the four
DAYS Of Sec, media days that is a little.

Speaker 1 (35:22):
Bit OF What Sec media days.

Speaker 3 (35:23):
HAS become i hate to be a jerk, about it
but the number of media members there relative to the
amount of actual news not.

Speaker 1 (35:32):
A lot a.

Speaker 3 (35:33):
Couple things one apparently in when we had the most recent,
breaking news Which Is, DAMIAN lillard i actually. Saw That
Apparently nick saban's daughter has commented on rumors about him returning.
To coaching she says it isn't. Gonna HAPPEN so i
think we could cross that one off. THE list i
would say, Number Two. Arch manning the lineage Of the
mannings are very is alive. And WELL and i know

(35:56):
that because he did not say anything in like a
thirty two minute. MEDIA available i mean he. Said nothing
it was unbelievable. And, SPECTACULAR finally i did Just See eli.
Drinkwitz Today the missouri head coach wants how?

Speaker 1 (36:09):
About?

Speaker 3 (36:09):
This dan he wants to skip past that boring old
fourteen team, college playoff maybe.

Speaker 1 (36:13):
Even sixteen he.

Speaker 3 (36:14):
Wants a thirty team college, football playoff TO which, I
say i guess we just don't even play a. Regular
season it's just a. Preseason invitational that we're calling. A, playoff.

Speaker 1 (36:25):
Yeah that's a little too much for.

Speaker 4 (36:27):
My liking he apparently liked the big ten format of
the two that are, out there which differs from the
message that we had heard earlier ON the sec. MEDIA
days i think your Point about saban at the top
is one that YOU and i have talked about. And
made the point this summer is that outside Of, arch
manning the college football season doesn't have as much hype as. Previous,

(36:49):
years now that will all change once the season gets
underway and stories end. Up DEVELOPING but i think what
it does is it again shows the chasm of when
you have a Figure Like nick saban not in the,
game anymore and how big it how how much room
or and how much space that. Took up now you
need to fill, that space and it's very difficult to

(37:11):
do and now the only way that you could do
that space apparently is to make up rumors that he
may be, coming back. Involving HIM so i think that's
that's something with, college football plus with players, moving here there,
and everywhere it's a little tougher to get a sense
of loyalty and understanding of who's coming back and who's gonna,
Be where so that makes it tough entering the season

(37:32):
to get it to to really get ramped up with.

Speaker 1 (37:34):
College football two.

Speaker 3 (37:35):
Quick, Things one, i'll defend, you know With The nick.
SABAN stuff i think there's always that guy or girl
in every sport that when there's nothing else to, talk
about you can. Default too because EVERY time i TURN,
OUT tv i See a dak conversation IN the nfl
and he didn't even play for the back half of.
Last year so. THAT'S one I think saban was. That
guy college football doesn't never. Right, now two as far

(37:57):
as the playoff, IS concerned i think the other thing
that's daring. PRESEASON conversation i think every fan base knows
we can take not only, a loss we could take
two or three and still be there in. The end
there's not as MUCH urgency i think going into a
season as there has been in, years past and that's
obviously not anything that's gonna change.

Speaker 1 (38:13):
Any, TIME yeah I.

Speaker 4 (38:14):
Think Texas ohio State With arch manning going up against
the defending national champions will. Be massive but to, your
point does the game really mean anything when we're talking
about college? Football, playoff Now If ohio State. Or texas
whoever loses has, three losses it could. Affect them but
we've even seen in the past had to head a lot,
of times didn't even matter on, who won especially in.

(38:36):
Conference situations when you're breaking, it Down He's, Aaron Torres I'm.
Dan byer there are cheaters, in sports but the cheaters
we're gonna, talk about you're not gonna want.

Speaker 1 (38:46):
To miss. That's next
