Speaker 2 (00:15):
It's like searching FSR.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
How can you stop talking about quarterbacks? It's the topic
of discussion over the last twenty four to forty eight
hours thanks to Mike Sando's annual rankings of NFL quarterbacks
as he spoke with fifty head coaches and executives throughout
the NFL getting his rankings done.

Speaker 4 (00:37):
For the athletic we'll break that down.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
It's been a topic of conversation yesterday and a topic
of conversation today. Curious on your thoughts, Kerry, as a
former NFL All Pro on how these rankings set up.
I'm a big fantasy football guy. Have the I Want
Your Flex podcast with Mike Harmon, So my mind always
drifts to fantasy in all of this, and I try
to separate it because when you're preparing for a fantasy

(01:00):
draft or a dynasty draft, like Bo Benz and our
executive producer is doing right now. Sometimes your rankings you
start to think fantasy football, but that's not what this
is all about. And I think there's a little bit
that is causing confusion when we're talking about the rankings
of these quarterbacks. So I want to dive into that.
Plus I think there's another there's a there's an overreaching

(01:21):
theme with all of this that these head coaches and
executives who make these rankings, I'm not sure they realized.
I do want to start with this because yesterday Mancie
Belanios and myself we're in and we're talking about the
debut of Shador Sanders, and I made a comment that
what happened on Friday night with the Carolina Panthers in
that game against the Carolina Panthers, more specifically, what happened

(01:42):
before and after the game was the reason why Shador
was a fifth round pick. And I'm curious on your
thoughts because it's gone around on social media ninety nine
point nine percent negative towards me. But they're personal attacks
and shots not necessarily at what the point that I
was making in the video and the whole draft process

(02:06):
was with Shador was one that captivated us, not just
the three days where he wasn't drafted Carrie, but it
was also throughout the process in February and March, in
April hearing words about how he's interviewing or not interviewing
well with certain teams, some even saying that he had
a confrontation with one of the NFL teams, like those

(02:29):
were all things that came out in addition to Shador
having his own song that he ended up playing in
walking into the stadium in his first preseason game. Ever,
that's the stuff that I'm talking about, and I want
Shador Sanders to succeed, and he succeeded on the field
Friday night. And I think that the talent has always

(02:51):
been there. We saw it at Colorado, and now there's
things that he did at Colorado that Miles Garrett even
said on the sidelines, like You're not gonna get away
with that in the NFL. You're not gonna get away
with that. If I'm the defensive end, you're gonna have
to tighten up the scrambling and stuff. And that's all
part of the growing process. It should be, because he's
hardly gotten any practice reps, you know, with the ones
and twos so far, in the first couple of weeks

(03:13):
of training camp. But he went out, was great on
third down, was great on the blitz through two touchdown passes,
and was great on the field. And I think throughout
the whole process of Chaudere falling in the draft, we
wanted to pick apart his game, make a reason this
is why, because he doesn't throw this well, or he
doesn't throw that well, or maybe he's not big enough
or is We're trying to find all these excuses. And

(03:35):
my whole point is this is the NFL people are
uptight in how they do things front offices, general managers.
They don't want to leave anything the chance and all
of the outside noise that can be brought in that
they can't control.

Speaker 4 (03:48):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
I think they shy away from so all of that
stuff that Shador was doing before and then even after
the game, and there's more clarification on what happened after
the game. That's what I'm talking about. That's what teams
are saying. I don't want to risk that. I don't
want that in our building. I'm not comfortable with having
someone having their own film crew here. I don't want
that into my organization. He's not on the draft board.

(04:10):
Some teams took him off the draft board because he
was arguing in their interviews. That's what was reported. But
that's what That's the point that I was getting at.
It's not a personal attack on should or Sanders. It's
just more of the reality of the NFL. And I
do think that Shador does need to realize that. And
I said, I don't want him to be humbled. I

(04:31):
just want him to be humble. And I'm curious, from
your perspective as a former player, to have a fifth
round pick walk into a stadium, even if it was
cleared by the team, with his own background music walking in,
I would feel that that would be a little strange.
I'm not a former player, I'm not in that locker room,
so maybe I'm not qualified to answer that question. I

(04:52):
think you are as an all pro. How do you
take what should or did before the game and afterwards?

Speaker 5 (04:58):
First thing, first, Dan, if you're going to run, I
need you to get your disapproval rating down a little bit.

Speaker 4 (05:03):
That's number on social media, that's number one.

Speaker 5 (05:08):
But again, you hit something on the head really in
what you said in your statement. Right, if you're not
going to if you're not the guy and you're a
backup guy. You're a guy that you know teams are
thinking about taking a risk on or thinking about taking
you want to you want to towd that company line

(05:29):
down the middle. You don't want to bring any outside
noise from your personal life to this situation. So that
means whether it's playing a boombox come into the game,
or having a speeding ticket, or any outside noise that
that accompanies you as anything else but the player on
the field. You don't want that at all. Number Two,

(05:49):
when you walk into a new NFL locker room, like,
you have to be humble. If you're not humble, you
will be humbled right away. And I'll just speak from
my own experience right me coming in I was a
fourth round guy. He was a fifth round guy I was.
I felt very highly of myself as well. I knew
if I got in any situation, I would show that
I could play. I came in parked at camp the

(06:14):
first day, all of us, the vets and everybody came
in and I had a range rover.

Speaker 4 (06:19):
Right, you don't think anything about it. It's just it's
I didn't think it's a range rover.

Speaker 5 (06:23):
It's a car. It's my first one, you know. I
went from an intrepid to a range.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
Yeah, treat yourself that, right.

Speaker 5 (06:32):
I pulled up in the in and park. I parked
by Curtis Martin. Curtis Martin looked at me and said, man,
the rookies got money.

Speaker 4 (06:40):
The rookies.

Speaker 5 (06:41):
The rookies really flashy, like you know, like just that
initial response to just seeing a car, that's just a car.

Speaker 4 (06:48):
So if you're coming in with the.

Speaker 5 (06:49):
Cars, the chains, the jury already feeling like you belong
and you've achieved something, you will get humbled. And I
so I don't know if he's gotten humble from his
teammate Chet, but that's a part of the journey. Like
you come in there. And once Curtis told me that
I literally didn't bring the range over back for a while.
I wanted to earn my stripes. And like I took
that that. I took those words to heed, right, Like

(07:10):
I took it at heed, and I was like, Okay,
I get it. It's not about the flash. It's not
about me being a pro now, it's about me earning
my stripes. My comments or my words of advice to
shudor would be just that we know you have all
the other things. We know you've made money already prior
to this, and it's a little different than us because
right college guys are making money.

Speaker 4 (07:30):
Now, so you can't really hide it.

Speaker 5 (07:32):
Yes, but just going to that situation knowing that he
should be aware of that from his dad. And so
I agree with you. If you're gonna have all these
other things outside of your game, that's going to be
the thing that speaks the loudest for you. You're doing it
all wrong. And so I agree with what you said.

Speaker 1 (07:47):
I think that there's it's such an interesting conversation and
you're in a situation where I'm sure the dealer is like, wait,
you want to trade this back for the Intrepid.

Speaker 4 (07:56):
It's just doesn't make sense.

Speaker 5 (07:58):
Oh, Dan Tramp got me some good, some good, some
good days with Dan Trepid.

Speaker 1 (08:02):
It's I got, I got comments. And again it's funny
because everybody wanted to deal with everything around for what
I was saying, not the actual point of that was
that's not appealing to NFL teams. They don't want distractions,
they don't want hard knocks. And that is because and
now it's so softened, it's not even good like the

(08:24):
episode with the Bills last week, and there's going to
be a new one tonight. Didn't even talk about James
Cook's contract situation. It's actually the biggest story in Buffalo.
And instead we have Tredevious White going to ice cream
stores and Dion Dawkins going to auto places where he's
drifting his car with his kids like it's a complete
puff piece, and NFL teams don't even want those cameras around.

(08:46):
So so that's what I'm talking about of just of
of the control. The NFL is just control freaks, and
they have an individual wanting to do his own thing.
I think teams were put off by that. I don't
think he was on certain draft boards, so what limits
the pool? And you're going so when I say that,
this is why he was drafted in the fifth round,
That's what I'm talking about. Now, there's some clarification about

(09:09):
the interview that he did with Tony Grossy, who's covered
Cleveland sports for decades, and Tony admitted on ESPN Cleveland
Today saying, you know what I appreciated about Shador is
he didn't call me out on the podium of the
press conference where he goes, I've had other quarterbacks do that,
and Schador didn't do that. And Grossy also said I

(09:30):
went up to Shador, which is something that I wasn't
sure on how the interaction was. What Grosy said he
didn't appreciate or didn't love was he didn't know he
was being recorded and that he was being filmed and
that their conversation was being recorded. And he said, I
don't and I'm paraphrasing. He just would have liked to
have known. And there wasn't much of Grosy that was

(09:51):
picked up, but it was Shador's family member, someone a
part of his team that was recording him. After the
game with that, and gross admitted that I'll be more
careful with my words the next time because I just
wasn't aware of that. But that was like my whole
thing of like that interaction ended up being caught. Now,
it wasn't Schador setting it up. It's a little bit

(10:12):
different than I thought, but it is still the fact
that one person didn't know that they were being recorded,
and luckily something bigger didn't come from it. Yes, somebody
said something that maybe they shouldn't have said, not knowing
that they were being recorded, and was put out like
they're just there are domino effects, but it's not meant
to be a major in diamond. That's I'm actually surprised

(10:34):
that on how it took off because there's nothing, there's
zero about race about it and people saying, I wonder
what his thoughts were about Johnny Manziel. Johnny Manziel would
even admit, and I think we all admit, admit that
Johnny Football took down Johnny Manziel. The name and the
star power of being Johnny Football was his own demise

(10:58):
and that and by the way, hey, what Johnny Manziel
was doing is not even compared to what Chadors is doing.
Manzel was doing things much worse. He was showing up hungover,
still drunk, right flying out to Vegas doing that that stuff.
Chador has done none of that except to get a
couple of speeding tickets. Yeah, like that's that's what it's
been so far. So he hasn't done any of that stuff.

(11:20):
It's it's not a it's not about a what is
you know, what about ism? What about them? What about this?
What about that? Has nothing to do But I will say,
if you want to bring up Johnny Manziel, I'd say
say the same thing, Johnny. Football is not what you
need when you're entering the NFL. And I'll tell you,
at least Manzell had the caveat of being a first
round pick. Now, the Browns may have been stupid enough

(11:42):
to do it where you're like, let's bring them in
he'll be our first round pick and hand them the
keys to this and that. But being a fifth rounder
makes it even more difficult, I think for players to accept.

Speaker 5 (11:53):
And that's the part, Right, you're going to have a
little bit more of a cushion to do that thing.
If you were there first round pick. If you're the
fifth round pick, they're not expecting you to come in
and compete and be that starter anyway. Now, if you do,
that's greaty, but there's no expectations for that. So the
bandwidth that they have for all the other extracurricular they
just don't have to deal with it.

Speaker 1 (12:14):
I just it was funny, and I just felt the
need to at least respond to it because the comments
were they're just personal attacks and called the hater and
other things. But I'm gonna admit something that that I
don't think i've ever admitted on the show, and I
don't think I've ever admitted it in the face of
Rich Davis.

Speaker 4 (12:30):
Let's go Dan.

Speaker 1 (12:32):
I actually think what the forty nine ers do with
the boombox is kind of cool. Okay, I hate the
forty nine ers. As a Seahawks fan, I despise the
forty nine ers, and I've got my feelings about you know,
Trent Williams, and I don't know what's going to happen now.
The debo is a member of the commanders on what
they're gonna do with their boombox. But it's one of
those things where you're just like, Okay, that's kind of neat.

(12:55):
You know, the team gets behind it. They come out
there and that's the deal. That's the team. And people
point out, well, it was his teammate that allowed him
to carry the speaker and the team got the okay
from it. That doesn't matter because it's the perception of
what's going on. I can tell you that Shador got
the okay for it. I could tell you that it

(13:17):
was a another Browns player that was carrying the speaker.
Granted it did have Shador's own song on there. I
don't think Deebo Samuel was playing his song or Trent
Williams was playing his song. It's more of a team thing,
but it's also perception is the problem, and perception is reality.

Speaker 5 (13:34):
And Dan even that it's not apples to oranges. So
Dor Sanders is a rookie, sure it doesn't matter. Like
Deebo Semia was a Pro Bowl receiver, Trent Williams is
a Hall of Fame, Yes, lineman, like these are people
that have put in the dues if they want to
listen to a speaker, and it's okay with the coaches,

(13:54):
perfectly fine in that situation, which Shador obviously, I'm sure
he got the okay because we haven't heard anything else
about it. No fallout, but it's still the optics. You're
a rookie quarterback, quarterback, the leader of your team. Like
lead that to somebody else. In my opinion, yes, I.

Speaker 1 (14:11):
Leave it for a few years down the line if
you want to have some And I think the pushback
to be was, well, that's not who I always I'm
staying true to myself because that's who I've always been.
Like I did it on the first preseason game, and
I'm going to do it, you know in the super
Bowl like that would be the argument to support something
like that, And I just the point was, that's fine

(14:35):
if that's what you're bringing, and that's what you're going
to bring to the NFL. However, don't be surprised if
some people don't like that. They don't want that in
their building. And that's the point of why I think
he fell to the fifth round at that point. Now,
the Browns may have gotten the steel of the draft
maybe who knows, and it could work out and if
it does, awesome, and Chador will have the last laugh.

(14:58):
But there's a reason why melk Yer had him so
high and others had him so high, and he didn't
go round one, and he didn't go round two, and
he didn't go round three, and it wasn't until round
five in day three that his name went off the board.
The talent was there. I would even say, Carrie, the
pedigree has been on his side, right, like I mean,

(15:19):
his dad's Deon Sanders, right, So you know that there's
something there, and it's not a nepotism thing, whether he
thought his numbers should be retired or not. At Colorado,
he did put up great numbers. They did throw the
football around and they won football games. They made it
to an Alimo bole like those are those are things
that Colorado football hadn't done a lot of in recent years,

(15:39):
and they changed in a round. So that's always been there.
But just the fact again of why he dropped so far,
it's because of those meetings. It's because of all the
extra stuff. They don't the NFL doesn't want distractions.

Speaker 5 (15:53):
Yeah, we know what the kid can play. I just
want him to just just calm just calm down on.

Speaker 4 (15:58):
The other things.

Speaker 5 (15:59):
One hundred percent agree with what you'll take in what
you're saying about that instant in that instance.

your opinions on shaudor Sanders. I don't take back anything
I said yesterday. I don't think anything I said was

(18:01):
out of line at all. I stand by it and
Shouldhow Sanders is going to be the story of this
NFL preseason, Yeah, I don't think that there's any doubt
that he is on an NFL roster, which after that
performance on Friday night, because if the Browns don't have
a use for him, one other team in the NFL
is now going to at least perk up after watching
their quarterbacks in camp, and maybe we'll say, all right,

(18:24):
all right, we'll deal with some of the stuff. Maybe
even one in Dallas who knows there you go. You
never know. Yeah, he carry up at Carry twenty five Roads.
You can find me at Dan Byer on Fox. Let's
go to Isaac Low and Cron for the latest on
this Tuesday is quarterbacking news in the NFL and so
much more.

Speaker 3 (18:38):
Oh.

Speaker 2 (18:38):
Yes, very very busy day across the board. In college football,
Oklahoma quarterback John Mattei issued a statement in which he
denied involvement in gambling after screenshots emerged yesterday on social
media in which transactions on his Venmo account were labeled
sports gambling.

Speaker 1 (18:57):
We're gonna get to this, by the way, our own
version coming up in about twenty minutes or so. I
do want to talk about the tears, but there is
something to the Venmo message that we have to dive into.

Speaker 2 (19:09):
Oh the possibilities are literally endless in that situation. As
statement read, my Venmo descriptions did not accurately portray the transactions,
but were instead inside jokes between me and my friends.

Speaker 4 (19:24):
Unquote.

Speaker 2 (19:25):
Minnesota Vikings announced receiver Rondale Moore suffered a season ending
left knee injury, and Saturday's preseason game against Houston, Green
Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love having surgery today to repair
a ligament injury to his left thumb that is expected
to be ready for the regular season opener. Rams quarterback
Matthew Stafford did not practice again today as he continues
to recover from a back injury. The Washington Post reported

(19:47):
that the NFL will appeal Monday's ruling by the Nevada
Supreme Court that John Gruden's lawsuit against the NFL cannot
be settled in arbitration but cam go to trial, and
in the last few moments, Gruden himself has issued a
statement to ESPN saying, quote, I'm looking forward to having
the truth come out, and I want to make sure

(20:08):
what happened to me doesn't happen to anyone else. What
happened wasn't right, and I'm glad the court didn't let
the NFL cover it up, unquote. Finally, with the beloved
studio show Inside the NBA moving from TNT to ESPN
this year, Sports Media Watch reported that this season's premiere
episode of Inside the NBA will run for just half

(20:31):
an hour. It had previously been about an hour show
from twelve oh five am to twelve thirty five am
Eastern time on October twenty second after that, the show
will not air for another two months until Christmas.

Speaker 4 (20:45):
Back to you guys, Oh wow, wow, I will say this.

Speaker 1 (20:50):
That's another way that you knew that show was so
good is I would have no idea how long it
would actually air.

Speaker 4 (20:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (20:57):
Right, you wouldn't know, like because the game time would
air and it wouldn't end like right at the top
of the hour, So you wouldn't know if you had
a full hour. It may end at ten after but
maybe they'll go to the top of the hour. Maybe
they'll do fifteen minutes, thirty minutes, I don't know, hour
and a half. But you just kept out watching because
they had more to give you.

Speaker 5 (21:14):
Man, see, ESPN's already destroyed. I said it. I said it, yep.

Speaker 4 (21:21):
I had thought.

Speaker 1 (21:22):
My whole take was that the NBA didn't want TNT
back in because I feel I was actually at a
detriment to ESPN because of how good TNT was. And
then a lot of the conversation last year wasn't how
much THETNT crew kind of crapped on the NBA, and

(21:43):
then that made it worse for the other broadcast partner,
especially the one with the biggest stake in it. So
now both NBC and ABC ESPN now will be lifting
up the NBA instead of maybe having TNT weighing it down,
or they won't be weighing it down until Christmas time
apparently after that premiere episode. Hey, today's show of Cavino

(22:05):
and Rich is brought to you by ty Iraq. For
over forty years, Tyraq has been helping customers by the
right tires for how, what and where they drive. Ship
fast and free back by free Road has a protection
with convenient installation options like mobile tire installation tierraq dot
Com the way tire buying should be. I felt when
the quarterback tiers were released by Mike Sando of The
Athletic yesterday Carrie Rhoades that there was just so much

(22:26):
attention drawn to the top of the rankings. What drew
your attention as a former player when you see that
the fifty coaches at executives thought that there are five
top Tier one players in the NFL or quarterbacks in
the NFL.

Speaker 5 (22:39):
Well, there's only four, and that's my first thought. But
also the unanimous situation with Patrick Mahomes that one was
obviously interesting as well, because I don't think that's true either,
But I mean those were the things that stood out immediately.

Speaker 4 (22:56):
There's other things.

Speaker 1 (22:56):
But even because Mahomes is taking a step back these
last couple of seasons, despite appearing in super Bowls and
winning one.

Speaker 5 (23:03):
I'd rather say the other three have gotten better than
he's taking.

Speaker 1 (23:08):
The stair enough, fair enough, Josh Allen's got an MVP.
We know that Lamar has two of them. Mahomes has
the rings, something that josh Al Lamar Jackson, and Joe
Burrow are are going after. And it was Mahomes and
Burrow who were actually tied for one in the top tier.
The definitions of these tiers is important.

Speaker 4 (23:28):
Tier one.

Speaker 1 (23:28):
This is Tier one a Tier one quarterback and carry
his team each week. The team wins because of him.
He expertly handles pere passing situations. He has no real
holes in his game. I think that there should be
something added to that. What's that is that the quarterback
has to be somewhat mobile. You have to move in

(23:50):
today's NFL, and I think that most of these guys do. Yes,
I don't know. Well, Stafford definitely is not moving right now.
If he is, it's in street clothes. But I think
that that is a portion of it, and it's just
you have to You really can't be a statue anymore.
You have to have at least some mobility. And it's

(24:11):
not to be a factor in the running game. You
just have to move so you don't get killed. Yes,
so I think that that should be added to tier one.
It wasn't, and maybe that's why Matthew Stafford was able
to creep in Tier two. A Tier two quarterback, he
carry his team sometimes but not as consistently. He can
handle pure passing situations in doses, and or possesses other

(24:35):
dimensions that are special enough to elevate him above tier three.
He has a hole or two in his game, so there,
if you're gonna include it in tier two, it should
be included in tier one.

Speaker 4 (24:46):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (24:46):
And now Jaden Daniels was the first quarterback. He was
the highest rated second year quarterback because again we don't
have we don't have tape on the rookies coming in,
so it's difficult to give a ranking when you haven't
seen a guy play. So this is Jayden Daniels's debut
in this list, and he's the highest that they've ever
had debut at number six, not shocking to see Daniels

(25:11):
in that Tier two on that next level list where
you shocked that he was considered the best of the
tier two quarterbacks.

Speaker 5 (25:18):
Yes, yes, he still has some work to do. Obviously,
what he did in year one was amazing, remarkable, all
the things. I agree with most of the fervor surrounding
his name, But I'm not putting him above C. J.

Speaker 4 (25:35):
Stroud, Jared Golf or it hurts right now. Now.

Speaker 5 (25:38):
That doesn't mean he isn't better than him, but he's
only playing one season. Defense is going to catch up
and he's going to have to do other things than
beat man and man coverage because they're running the red
play and he's getting the one read and he's getting
it out like teams are going to change that, and
so I want to see what happens in year two
for him.

Speaker 4 (25:57):
First.

Speaker 1 (25:58):
Here's my problem with the Jayde Daniels ranking is that
you have Lamar Jackson at four, who had one of
the greatest passing seasons statistically that we've ever seen in
the NFL. It's two MVP awards, and when you go
to this rankings, and maybe it's because it's kind of
on a curve, because we're just taking the quarterbacks that
are eligible. But he's just two spots ahead of Jaden Daniels.

(26:22):
And this is.

Speaker 5 (26:22):
Lamar Jackson's debut on Tier one. Yeah yeah, like six
how many years this Lamar been the league? Yeah enough,
he's spending enough.

Speaker 4 (26:30):
Is it birth time? Yes?

Speaker 1 (26:32):
And so that is so it's it's that little thing
like Fantasy football wise, Jadon Daniels is up there.

Speaker 4 (26:39):
I'm looking at the rankings. That's where you're gonna put him.

Speaker 1 (26:41):
Mahomes wouldn't be Mahomes wouldn't be in that top tier.
Alan Jackson, Burrow and Jayden Daniels are your top guy
and Jalen Hurts because of what he does on the ground. Yeah,
but Jalen Hurts is a part of this conversation because
now when you're looking at these tiers and it's spot
after spot after spot after spot, it goes from six
all the way down to fourteen. The quarterbacks that are

(27:03):
on the second tier are Jaden Daniels, Justin Herbert, Jared Goff, CJ. Stroud,
Jalen Hurts, Baker Mayfield, Dak Prescott, Jordan Love, and Brock Purty.
So that's nine quarterbacks. Then Carrie my biggest problem, and
it's not that rock Perty is fourteen or Dak is twelve,
and yeah, Jalen Hurts is tied for ninth and c. J.

(27:24):
Stroud's tied for ninth even though he only has had
the one great season and last year took a step back. Yeah,
none of that matters to me. What I find interesting
about these tiers, again done by coaches and executives, is
that you had nine players in that tier two, then
in tier three you had eleven quarterbacks in tier three?

(27:46):
Is this this is the definition that the athletic use
for tier three. A Tier three quarterback is a legitimate starter,
but needs a heavier running game or a defensive component
to win. A lower volume dropback passing offense suits him best.
Pretty specific there. But now if you take tiers two
and three, that's twenty quarterbacks in the National Football League. Yeah,

(28:07):
that's two thirds of the league. Is good to good?

Speaker 4 (28:14):
Yeah, I don't know. Great.

Speaker 1 (28:17):
If you want to say tier two is great, that's fine.
It seems like it's a bit of a stretch. But
it just feels that when I'm looking at the NFL
now and a guy like Dak Prescott's getting sixty million dollars.
Rock Perty just got who's his new deal in the
fifty million reigns with the forty nine ers, and he's
fourteenth on the list. Jordan loves a fifty five million

(28:39):
dollar quarterback? Who's heart again? As you heard Isaac Lohenkron,
Why are we paying all of these quarterbacks if two
thirds of them in the league are basically the same guy?
And I and I'm not saying that Jayden Daniels and
Kirk Cousins are the same guy, because Jaden Daniels is
the top of Tier two and Kirk Cousins is the
bottom of Tier three, but Bryce Young and Caleb Williams

(29:00):
are at the bottom of tier three. What this tells
me is, for some reason, these executives and dead coaches
are just getting smitten and feel they have nowhere to
turn but to just pay quarterbacks money. If two thirds
of the quarterbacks in the National Football League are essentially
in the same boats, then why are we paying them
this absurd amount of money. I would rather pay a

(29:23):
Tier three or Tier four guy a lot less to
be able to fill out the team around him than
to pay someone or overpay someone, especially in Dallas's case
with Dak getting sixty million dollars a year, like, no
wonder some of these teams are in the problems that
they're having because of what they've paid their quarterback.

Speaker 4 (29:40):
That's a great point.

Speaker 5 (29:41):
But I'll tell you why that's happening, right So that's
because Dak is Tier two right here today at number twelve.

Speaker 4 (29:48):
The year he got.

Speaker 5 (29:48):
Paid, he was he was having an MVP type of season.
Well I think the year before that he got paid
the year after I think or end the year, but
he had that thing happen right there at that moment
where he played a little bit above a Tier two guy.
So that kind of would be his situation. A guy
like Brock Purdy, he just got paid. They don't have

(30:10):
any other option there. I mean, he played well, he
led them to the NFC Championship game, like there is
some I guess some some fervor there with him as well.
So I think these situations only because they'll come into
this year specifically, we're talking about it now, but these
guys could have had stronger season the year before or
something like that.

Speaker 1 (30:29):
This is what I'll say to Dak because I'm not
talking about the sixty million dollars years I'm talking about
the now I'm going to talk about the previous contract
because it was the exact opposite with Dak that broke
his leg.

Speaker 4 (30:39):
He did yep, and the Cowboys are still like, yep,
we'll pay you.

Speaker 1 (30:43):
That's true because they had to your point, they had
nowhere to goe if some of these teams started to
be like like the Seahawks with Gino Smith. The Seahawks
traded Gino Smith because they felt that he was going
to want more money, and he said that he wanted
more money. True, fine, so we'll trade you and we'll
sign I'm Sam Donald for less. Sam Donald is tied

(31:04):
for twentieth. Guess who's nineteenth, Geno Smith? Geno Smith. That
seems like a pretty smart deal by the Seahawks. Yes,
it does right, like as you're looking at it, like
they now they basically have the same quarterback. They just
paid less for them, and they didn't pay more for
the other guy. That's the type of thinking in the
NFL that I think that you need GMS. Now you

(31:24):
can draft your quarterback and there are a bunch of
young quarterbacks in this right hand column. If you're looking
on X and seeing it because you have bo Nicks.
There you have Drake May and Caleb Williams and Bryce Young.
All of those players will have the opportunity to move
themselves into the next tier. But when you're talking about
that second contract or how you're looking at moving forward,

(31:47):
I think that the executives and coaches, as they do
these tiers, should recognize that, you know what, a lot
of these guys are just the same and if everybody
wasn't in the same think group, maybe there would be
more movement throughout the NFL. People are feeling like they
need to commit their money. I mean, Kyler Murray got
a new contract from the Cardinals and he had staged

(32:08):
his It wasn't a holdout, but it was the week
of the Super Bowl between the Rams and Bengals where
he scrubbed his social media of everything of the Cardinals.
It was in early February, Like, the negotiation is on,
let's begin now.

Speaker 4 (32:23):
I want a new contract. Cardinals end up.

Speaker 1 (32:25):
All right, we'll pay you. We have we can't think
outside the box. We know you've done well, and because
nobody else can think outside the box, we're just going
to pay our contracts. That's the thing that stood out
to me. I looked at this thing for twenty minutes, Carrie, Yeah,
and then it just dawned on me, like, wow, two
thirds of the league is basically just in the middle.

(32:45):
Then you have the top tier guys and then the
also rams are the new kids on the block. And
he also rans are Russell Wilson, Joe Flacco, and by
the way, poor Kenny Pickett, he's thirty fourth on the list.
They had a Tier five they made for Kenny Pickett,
like like just in, you know, adding salt to the wounds, right.
But that's what stood out to me is there's a
lot of quarterbacks here that are basically the same guy

(33:07):
with a little bit of difference, and then we're paying
them like they're rock stars.

Speaker 5 (33:11):
So you know what you're telling me, Dan, there's a
lot of clueless offensive coordinators out there, That's what you're
telling me, Because if they're all the same, then that
means that you can bring in any one of these
guys and have them fit your system and you coast
them up to be a really good player.

Speaker 1 (33:25):
I think that there's I think that there are assistants
that can work with guys in their system that will
do well better than others. But I don't think it's
the end all be all to sign those certain guys. So,
you know, like Sam Donald had some familiarity with Clint
Kubiak's offense, So the Seahawks bring in a new offensive coordinator.

(33:47):
They bring in Sam Donald at a lesser price than
Gino Smith. Like that ends up working in other spots.
You may have a previous connection. Kirk Cousins, you know,
went to Atlanta with you know, basically blind except they
gave him.

Speaker 4 (34:02):
A he was blinded by the jack. Yeah, that's not
agreed by.

Speaker 1 (34:07):
The Green And now you know, like now he's now,
now he's the backup. It wasn't like any package deal
that was happening there. I just look at the list,
and you know, your your argument is well taken with
the brock Purty sort of deal. But it's funny that
the forty nine ers were in that race, like so
many teams are now, Like before we have to pay
our quarterback. How about if teams just decided, you know what,

(34:30):
maybe we're not going to pay our quarterback. Maybe we'll
just try to play a hard ball and see where
we can go. That's what I'd like to see in
the NFL.

Speaker 5 (34:37):
I got a question for you right now, though, out
of these tier three guys, who do you see taking
that step to tier two? Out of this list right now?
I have mine, but I want to see where. I
want to see where you're going.

Speaker 1 (34:48):
And just the Tier three is Kyler Murray, Aaron Rodgers
to Trevor Lawrence, Gino Smith, Boonick, Sam Darnold, Drake May,
kayleb Williams, and Bryce Young and then Kirk Cousins. Cousins
not it, I would say, I think, obviously, Caleb Williams okay,
bo Nicks okay.

Speaker 3 (35:08):
And.

Speaker 1 (35:11):
I'll say Drake May, I'll say those three. I think
Bryce Young, that's my guy, has has the possible. You know,
that's my guy, Bryce Young.

Speaker 5 (35:21):
Is He's gonna he is going to be a Tier
two guy by the end of this year. Okay, all right,
I'm saying that very very took the four. I took
the four young guys. I think we know a little.

Speaker 1 (35:30):
We know more about everybody else, right, but those those
four young guys. Maybe I took the easy way on
just naming everybody, but I was gonna I was gonna say,
I thought you were high on the Patriots, so I
thought it was gonna be Drake May.

Speaker 5 (35:41):
I am high on the papers, but I think they're
They're gonna be a surprise team. But I just think
Bryce Young is going on. I'll tell you what that pop.
I think Michael Panicks Junior is going to be great
for the Falcons. And he's a Tier four guy, so
so maybe he's the guy that takes He's carry roads.

John Mattier of Oklahoma I had to clear his name
with a statement saying that the descriptions of sports gambling,

(37:03):
USC versus UCLA and others were phonies.

Speaker 4 (37:08):
I'll tell you what.

Speaker 1 (37:10):
Venmo is any of those pay services, especially when you're
my age. I'm a little younger than you. Carry Like
I had buddies who never trusted pay palic when you
would do fantasy football stuff. They were the last to
get on board with like these places because they're just
like they didn't trust it. They didn't trust any of

(37:30):
it at all. And I think that there are some
now like me. So if I venmo something, I'm not
sure exactly what I should type. I don't know if
I should just make it universal. I think everybody just
puts a pizza slice, So no matter what you pay someone,
it's likely for food, but it can be a daunting

(37:51):
task for people of a certain generation.

Speaker 4 (37:53):
Man, you're you're right. I'm so.

Speaker 5 (37:55):
I'm one of those guys that's always late to the
party when it comes to technology in general, the pay services,
that stuff. I'm always late to that. Reluctantly, I have
to do it because that's how everybody's receiving payments and
money now. And so even my little nephew he's calling, uncle,
can I get money for the movies?

Speaker 4 (38:14):
I'm like, how do I write that?

Speaker 1 (38:15):
In?

Speaker 4 (38:15):
What do I write? Yes?

Speaker 1 (38:17):
You just you do the action thing right, Like with
that action I don't know that. What's that the board
that you snap, you know when you go action?

Speaker 5 (38:25):
Oh yeah, I know. I can't even think right now.
You put me on the spot with that one.

Speaker 4 (38:33):
I don't even know.

Speaker 1 (38:33):
Well, just just when you think that you can get
away with like some tomfoolery, Yeah, apparently you can't.

Speaker 3 (38:40):
Both.

Speaker 4 (38:40):
Benson is not going to name any names, name names both, No,
he can't.

Speaker 1 (38:46):
But there is someone that you know that tried to
play the haha Venmo game and got busted.

Speaker 7 (38:51):
Yeah, we have a mutual friend.

Speaker 5 (38:52):
Oh.

Speaker 7 (38:52):
Here at Fox Sports Radio that was telling a story
today that they had a friend that they they put
in their description when they paid them, like you know,
money laundering to get someone out of X location, and
they're the payment was flagged and they had to send
an email to the company explaining it what they actually
were doing.

Speaker 4 (39:13):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (39:13):
Yeah, so so bleep around and find out is all
of your little Venmo and PayPal funny funny things along
the way. You understand why someone of my generation may
not want to show directly that they may be paying
a bill to someone. Yeah, or you know, maybe a
tree trimming and whatever, but you don't want it to

(39:34):
be so you want to show that it's it's a tree,
but you don't want it to be so discreet that
it could be something else, or that it wouldn't be
thought of as a business, or in this case, pretend
to have a joke and then be flagged for it
because of a legal activity.

Speaker 5 (39:51):
Everything's not funny, guys. You gotta you gotta protect yourself
and this is.

Speaker 4 (39:55):
All public public knowledge. Don't do it.

Speaker 1 (39:58):
I would send it back. I I think that you
have the ability to. I'm not sure if you do,
but if you were to, I think so.

Speaker 4 (40:05):
Well.

Speaker 1 (40:05):
The other thing with this as well is the Venmo
stuff for the people that don't have it on private
or on the secret to see like what everybody's business exactly.
I have a couple of friends who I just know
who they're they're paying soccer to, or they just never
pay for lunch and they have to pay somebody else
because that's what it's constantly is twenty dollars again, slice

(40:26):
of pizza.

Speaker 5 (40:27):
It helps It helps us Dan because we get to
know that if we invite that friend and never paying.

Speaker 4 (40:31):
So we've already talked about this.

Speaker 1 (40:34):
Absolutely, he's carryer Os. I'm Dan byer in for Cavino
and Rich who have been in for Dan Patrick. They'll
be in tomorrow morning as well. Carrie and I will
