Speaker 2 (00:23):
Yesterday some crazy baseball.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
We're going to talk about the Yankees clinching, but we
got to talk about David Fry and what happened to him,
because that was scary.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
Dude.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
I couldn't believe what I saw. At first. I was like,
Dan Byer, did it hit the bad that was wild? Well,
the guy we're talking about, David Fry as the guy
that got hit in the face. I don't think the pitch,
when you take a look at it, I don't think
scooball went to inside. I think Fry squares around for
a bunk, hovers over the plate, and what would normally

(00:57):
have been on a regular pitch a sort of a brushback.
When you're squaring around that much in front of the plate,
you are exposing yourself, like you know when you teach
a little kids, exposed himself to a ninety nine point
six mile per hour fastball to the face. When you
teach little kids how to get out of the way
if a ball's coming at you, you know, it's the
opposite of scaring up for a bunch. You always tell

(01:18):
him to, you know, turn away and let it hit
your side or back like you, you know, like a turtle. Well,
speaking of what you teach the kids, if you were
one of those kids that sucked at little league, you
may have never learned that the second you see someone
square away for a bunt, you're supposed to throw high
and tight. Yeah, and that's what school boy was doing.
He was doing his job. I agree with rich. I

(01:40):
think he's squared away way too far. He leaned into
that fanst because schoobol. You saw his reaction. He felt terrible,
and you know he's a good man. He of course
feels empathy and sympathy and all those things.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
But David Fry was over the plate.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
He was he was uh again, I don't think this
is some ridiculous high tight what a hit a pitch?

Speaker 2 (02:01):
I really would of them.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
I think it would have been inside ball one, but
so scary to see. Luckily, he's okay. When I say, okay,
he has facial fractures. You heard Dan Byer talking about it. Yeah,
but in the grand scheme of how bad it could
have been, he's okay, six to eight week recovery, and
that's great to hear. I know, schoobl felt terrible, as
teammates felt everybody watching. I felt terrible. But the Guardians

(02:24):
pulled it together and they end up winning five to two.
But let's talk about it the times you got hit
in the face or maybe you were responsible for it,
because we all have stories, and Rich and I share
one together, and we'll tell you this unfortunate tale.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
But it's scary. Sometimes you're never the same.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
You could talk about Jean Carlos Stanton, or you can
talk about my buddy Barry. You know, my buddy Barry Bartnando.
He was that kid in Little League that got hit
in the face, broke his jaw, and we had to
wear those masks for the rest of our Little League career.
You got to wear like a mask in Lily like
a plot to guard that went over the helmet.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
Oh, Barry ruined it. Yeah, he was sort of ruined
that for everybody.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
He was that kid and he was infamous, which is
more than famous for that one reason. But we all
have those stories, and rich and I, like I said,
we share like a terrible story. But maybe you were punched,
maybe you were knocked in the face. We want to
hear those stories because I want to know if you
saw stars, did you see birds? Like the cartoons, and
how scary it actually is. I mean, had no fun
a day later, but at first it was very scary,

(03:26):
very scary and even you know, as scary as.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
The hit in the face. Because we know that he
is he's going to recover right down, buyer like he's
going to be six to eight weeks. He was discharged
from the hospital.

Speaker 3 (03:37):
They say he's resting comfortably, but they were minimally minimally
displaced fractures. But there were multiple fractures on the left
side of his fright face and other nasal fractures as well.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
Now I don't wish just upon him or anybody, but
he has to be a little apprehensive moving forward, right,
So he's got to be that ptst involved of being
scared of any high type pitch at.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
Least for the next few months.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
My well, Gary Man, listen, the bummer for him is
a she fractured his face in nasal bones and everything.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
That's every heat ballplayer, everybody's fear.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
But I'm saying what sucks for him is that the
Cleveland Guardians are on a roll.

Speaker 4 (04:15):
There.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
They are now in first place and a tiebreaker over Detroit.
The Tigers have had the most monumental collapse in Major
League Baseball history.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
At one point this.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
Year, they had a fifteen and a half game lead
over whoever was in second place at the time. So
the Tigers collapse has taken a has taken a backseat
to this story today because right now Cleveland, Cleveland rocks Cleveland.
Aside from this pitch to the face, is fun times
in Cleveland again Cleveland, Yeah, I mean good times for Cleveland.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
I feel bad for David Frye again.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
I pull back to the Little league because she said,
your buddy Barry got hit in the face. Every kid,
it is, without a doubt, the most universally accepted the
coach ballgame will tell you this. Every kid gets hit
once in the Little league and for the next week, month,
two months, maybe the season are a bit nervous at

(05:13):
the play. Some kids might not ever recover. And I'm
wishing David Fry the best. And I don't know what
it is about this particular pitch because when I saw it,
you know, maybe it's the fact that I know he's
okay now was I'm able to watch it. There's other
injuries like a like a broken.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
Leg, or we're not going to show that. Yeah, I
can't watch that.

Speaker 1 (05:32):
For some reason, I could watch the ball to the
face as terrible as it was. And that's just the
random observation I made. I don't get that weird feeling
of oh, I can't watch, but I have a few stories.
I would be careful, by the way, with your Google
search balls to the face. Oh yeah, yeah, I know,
careful of I was. I hope I don't get in
trouble from HR. I was doing research. But my point

(05:55):
is every kid has gone through this. I remember I
get I got drilled in the helmet by kid in
Little League thrown heat and for a good month I
was like, oh, you get scared in the box. And
my son, who plays T ball, it's coach pitch and
machine pitch. There was a good month where I had
to mentally get my son back in and be like, yo,
Benny boy, you're not gonna get hit. He got hit
in the hand and his hands swelled up, and every

(06:17):
pitch he did that, you bail out, you step out.
You know what's unfortunately about that, rich is you know
what are you like? Sixty years old? Now get out
of here. Even at sixty five, you remember those kids
in the Little league that cried when they got hit.
You still remember that, Yeah, it's the tree not that young.
I remember the kids. I remember the kids that cried
when they were like, oh well, it just like laying

(06:38):
in the batter's box like, oh.

Speaker 3 (06:42):
The hardball was the crazy thing for me because I
took one in the stomach playing pickle.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
Oh, so that made me afraid.

Speaker 3 (06:50):
I didn't make contact my first year of Little League
until the last game of the year. We're talking contact
like a foul ball, because I was always pulling out
of the batter's box completely star my foot.

Speaker 1 (07:00):
You're pulling out and every kid, the kid gets hit
or gets nervous the whole season.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
You're dB.

Speaker 1 (07:04):
There's kids in my team that will never make contact
because they are nervous, like you said, and every epid
they pull out laces on your face or on your
wherever you got hit. You feel that sizzle of the
fastball coming in. Yes, that's hard to recover from. So
we do wish David Frye the best, but it opens
up the conversation. I'm glad he's okay. It was a
horrible scene and I did feel for everybody involved last night,

(07:26):
and congratulations to the Guardians. But Rich and I had
a listener get together. It was at one of our
conventions in New York City. We're in Central Park, New York.
Beautiful day, hundreds of listeners there and we had a
softball event before a big party. We just got together
a Central Park. Listeners from all over the country came.

(07:48):
We had a big softball game. It's Rich's chance to
show off because he thinks he's Mike Piazza, and we
had way you see him hitting bombs at fifty seven. Yeah,
Mike Piazza fifty seven years.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
Piazza always took like monster hats, and that's sort of
my swing.

Speaker 5 (08:03):
Yeah, I did.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
Monster has swings like for the fence with every swing.
And for the record, he's got a good ten plus
years on me. No, yeah, come on, But we're having
a listener event and that's important because everyone's just having fun.

Speaker 2 (08:15):
As a listener event.

Speaker 1 (08:17):
We're in Central Park, beautiful day, and some of the
women that came to support our show weren't playing. They
were just sitting on the sideline. They were just hanging around.
And we had a kid at shortstop who listened to
the show that was a college baseball player, like a
legitimate athlete, really good in fact, and a ground balls

(08:37):
hit to shortstop. This kid, Doug scoops it up and
he rifles one to an average first play first base
playing Jabbroni that was hanging out with us. Yeah, I
mean he made a great play, throws a bullet. This
guy can't scoop it at first. I watched in slow
motion as this ball bounced at first base and went

(09:02):
about ten to fifteen feet on a fly bed beyond
that and hit one of our female listeners in I
mean square in the face. So here we are at
a listener event. You know, we're like, hey, can we
get suit for this?

Speaker 5 (09:16):
Right?

Speaker 2 (09:17):
This is horrible? You know, we felt so terrible.

Speaker 1 (09:21):
The guy that threw the ball, I mean he just
threw like a like a ninety mile per hour like
Aaron Yeah, you know, the first base and it hits
this woman square in the face, and it took all
the fun, sucked all the fun out of the day. Everyone's,
you know, concerned about the whole thing. Turns out she's okay,
it's not worth there they were. There was two girls
that listened and they visit. They were visiting from Salmon Arm, right, Ken, Yeah,

(09:44):
I remember being like, yes, some girl from Salmon Arm
got smacked in the face. Why was she sitting behind
the first base?

Speaker 2 (09:53):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (09:54):
Man.

Speaker 1 (09:55):
We were like, oh no, he killed our listener. We
felt so terrible she went down. It was so scary.
So let's share some stories. I got other stories to
a personal story, because getting hit in the face, Man,
you'll never forget it. If your bell's rung like that. Look,
if you're a fighter, I get it's happened. But if

(10:15):
you're not and you get your bell rung like that,
it sticks with you. Now, there's something very scary about
getting hit in the face and the idea of this dude,
David Fry having broken, you know, some fractures in his face.
Remember the story of the wrestler Brutus, the barber beefcake. No,
but I remember the story of the hippopotamus Geez, the

(10:38):
story of brute Eie Brutus Beefcake, the wrestler. And you
learn this if you watch wrestling documentaries or you remember
as a kid. He was parasailing and someone's knees slammed
into his face at full speed and his face like shattered.
He needed reconstructive service, right, Yeah, they put his face
back together based on a picture.

Speaker 2 (10:59):
M hm.

Speaker 1 (11:00):
And I just kind of remarkable because he looked relatively handsome.
I mean, we interviewed the guy you would have never known.
I remember you saying beefcake for sure, what a beefcake?
So my question is this, will the face injury is
very scary because it's your freaking face, right, it's your face.

(11:21):
It's what people look at, it's what you your face,
and your brain's back there too, and your brain's back there, Sam,
it's your face. Would you rather get hit in the
face because the moment is scary? But God willing, you're okay?
Would you rather that? Would you rather? What happened to
Matthew Stafford the other day? You see that he said

(11:42):
he got his wavos crushed. His wife said that on
her podcast. He goes You see there's a clip from
the Rams game and he is down.

Speaker 2 (11:50):
Would you rather get hit in the wavos or the face?

Speaker 1 (11:53):
I think the answer is definitely the wavos, But the
third I'm not sure about that. So Stafford gets crushed
in the in the in the nutties. The third one.
I saw a dude that you and I know, one
of our listeners on Long Island, took like a he
slipped dropping his kid off from school, and he broke

(12:15):
both of his wrists. So for the next months he
can't like wipe his butt. Probably he can't do it,
can't eat, he can't do it. Imagine if both you're
if you break both your hands and wrists, that might
be the worst.

Speaker 2 (12:28):
Guy's gonna have some lonely nights. It's true, so you
need your hands. Yeah, you did anything for everything.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
So while this is a terrible thing, is there anything
worse than getting hit in the face?

Speaker 2 (12:40):
Maybe the wayvos? Yeah, I don't know. It depends.

Speaker 1 (12:42):
Like I've never taken a vicious shot, but I have
been punched in the face a few times. And again,
like I said, you never forget it, because it's like
a movie.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
It's a ba ba.

Speaker 1 (12:52):
He goes back like did that just happen? Because if
you don't get knocked out. You're aware of what happened,
so feeling. We're We're at a party in Manhattan at
at a club, and I remember some dude was hitting
on Cavino's girlfriend and I'm gonna paint the picture accurately.
Cavino wasn't being some blow hard like what are you doing?

Speaker 2 (13:14):
Event? It was working.

Speaker 1 (13:15):
It was we were doing hosting a thing, and Cavino
said something like very polite, like, hey man, you got
good taste, but she's my girl.

Speaker 2 (13:23):
Have a great night, like something very polite. The guy's like,
oh yeah, And I saw this guy exam.

Speaker 1 (13:29):
Face No, no, not once because you sit there and shock,
like your hair goes back right.

Speaker 2 (13:35):
Look at this guy. He hits me again. Boom. It's
like when let's see the slow mo replace.

Speaker 1 (13:42):
It was the principal in Ferris Bueller, what's his name?
Principal when Ed Rooney gets kicked in the face.

Speaker 2 (13:49):
You know, it was like that.

Speaker 1 (13:50):
I was thinking, and you're sitting here, you're like so shocked,
and you're remember the scene when they're reacting like a
dream scene and dumb and Dumber and Jim Carrey pomps
back up and he wipes his mouth. He goes, he
just starting the speedbag the guys. Honestly, Sam, I'm not bragging.
I'm not like this fighting kind of guy. But the
fact that he didn't knock me out put me in

(14:12):
that zone of attack mode, like he didn't even get
I'm not getting punched again.

Speaker 2 (14:16):
And that's what happened at that point.

Speaker 1 (14:17):
And I remember in that moment, like bouncers and everyone
jumped in and people got like sort of escorted out
of the bar. Cavino didn't get in trouble, and I
did a ground pass. Cavino did nothing wrong, not at all,
and I just saw it.

Speaker 2 (14:29):
And all I.

Speaker 1 (14:30):
Remember was Cavino being so mad because the girl he
was dating at the time was less concerned about him
getting punched. And she's like, I lost one of my
shoes in the club, and off the shoe.

Speaker 2 (14:40):
It was a melee. And then she was like, but
I a bunch in the face. She's like, but my shoe.
I love that shoe. I was bleeding all over the place.

Speaker 1 (14:47):
So your stories, and again we say it respectfully because
we wish David Fryar all the best, But I was
thinking about but getting hit in the face is one
of the top, if not the top, a top level
like oh no, and we get it. Some people make
a living at of doing that. You know, nobody loves
a fight more than us. But when you get punched

(15:10):
in the face, this is a different story, especially when
you're not looking for it or hitting the face.

Speaker 2 (15:14):
So in your stories.

Speaker 1 (15:15):
Speaking of getting hit in the face, I'm sure I
we'll mention it at some point. But they came out
with the rules for that Jake Paul Tank Davis fight,
and we talked about how Jake Paul twice his size
twelve ounce gloves, which isn't as puffy as we thought.
So's weight limit of one ninety five for that fight. Geez,
So I don't know how big Tank could actually get so.

(15:37):
I mean, listen, we pay pay per view money and
we love watching people fight. But when it's a regular
guy get hit in the face, my goodness, how scary
is that? What's scary that? Or when you see a
picture get hit with a line drift coming back to
me that there's something real alarming about like the brutal
man I say it.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
Is, it's brutal.

Speaker 6 (15:53):
Yeah, yesterday, comebacker to Otani and he was everyone ran
out of course worried. And that's what you worry about
with Shohey, is him getting hit by a you know,
a batter hitting the pitch back to him and it
was his glove hand and he shook it off. He
wound up being okay.

Speaker 1 (16:11):
But I I there's a couple of guys in my
men's softball league that at first I sort of laughed
at a little bit, like why is this guy wearing
a like a mask right, like a like a little
pains like a Ronald Reagan mask.

Speaker 2 (16:24):
Four great jokes today for you. I'm one of the
kings of Commons.

Speaker 1 (16:29):
A couple of these, like a pitcher would wear a mask,
like are we doing this? And I was told the
story of like I guess right, like before I started
playing and moved out here, there was a story where
you know men's slow pitch softball, those guys that are
thirty forty years old, that saw that's hard right sitting dunk.
You're just tossing a little baby softball meatball. There's some
big fat Burley guy, Mark Burley's there to hit one

(16:52):
hundred mile pour rocket right back at you. There's guys
you just defense. You've seen videos on Instagram and some
of these baller softball players. There was a guy that
hit the ball back and knocked the dude in the
head unconscious, and people like, oh my god, is he dead?
He is fine, dude, I don't he was cancussed everything.
But I saw a guy break his wrist in softball.
You can't guard that. But I saw a guy throw

(17:12):
throw sort of a cookie guy rip one back.

Speaker 2 (17:15):
I heard his wrist. So that high arc pitching. And
you can hit it on a rope.

Speaker 6 (17:22):
No, yeah, if you time it perfectly, man, you could
rope it down third baseline or at the picture's head.

Speaker 2 (17:27):
Unfortunately, so scary moment.

Speaker 1 (17:29):
So hopefully David Fry will uh, by the way, you're
not be that affected man observation. No school boll had
like the weirdest, weakest inning ever. It was like a
It was like a bunch of just circus events. That
terrible play he made between his legs. Write that weird play.
Everything went wrong, Everything went wrong for him that inning.
The whole thing was, he could say, everything goes wrong
for the Tigers. Yeah, it was a bad, bad inning.

Speaker 2 (17:50):
Boy.

Speaker 1 (17:50):
All right, Well, hey your thoughts. We got all the
phones going, so we'll take your feedback. Next you get
hit in the face David Fry style.

Speaker 2 (17:59):
Uh gluck. He seems like he'll be all good.

Speaker 1 (18:01):
So I theyve recovered, we'll talk a little baseball, and
of course NFL. I can't believe we're getting into week
four already. Tomorrow night we kick off again. After this week,
we're gonna be essentially a fourth through the season, which
just shows you time is flying. My friends, can we
just say, like, can we spin it and say this
is our way of celebrating the recovery of David Fry

(18:23):
because what we saw was scary, but he's okay. I
think what adds to the scary is you know a
lot of times, I'll give you the analogy. You know,
when your kid falls, sometimes you reacting is the worst
thing is then they get scared. Like if you're like,
oh my god, you okay, they don't cry until you react.

Speaker 2 (18:42):
Yeah. So sometimes if you keep your comic, you okay.

Speaker 6 (18:44):
Their buddy, or if they're on the edge, you can
cause them to fall by overreacting to what they're doing.

Speaker 2 (18:51):
But what are you doing up there?

Speaker 1 (18:53):
I think by scoopball like dropping his glove and hat
and be like, oh heavens to Betsy and really reacting
it made to me it feel worse everyone and I
I love Schoobl's emotions and he reached out and seems
like a really good dude, but his reaction to me
made it even scarier.

Speaker 3 (19:12):
We were playing some street football in our cul de
sac and my four year old son fell on his
knee wearing shorts, and I in my head, I was like, ooh,
that hurt. And he teetered do you cry? Do you
not cry?

Speaker 2 (19:22):
Ah?

Speaker 3 (19:23):
And I played it cool and he didn't cry. He's like,
I'm fine, I'm fine. I'm like, you know what, Let's
do halftime, Let's go inside. He's like, nope, nope, Let's
play Winning Dad.

Speaker 1 (19:32):
Move Dan Bayer Winning Dad movie. If you would have reacted,
he probably would.

Speaker 2 (19:36):
He stared on it. You're all right? Yeah, you know
what a since? You know, I talk a lot about
coaching because I'm the number one coach on Fox Sports Radio.
When did that start?

Speaker 1 (19:45):
I do this with with the kids, my daughter's team
and my son's team. And if you got kids, you
don't need to be a coach. But I always say,
and someone taught me this, I always say, are you
injured or scared because when a kid's like crying, is
it yo?

Speaker 2 (20:00):
Are you stole that from me? Because I always say
are you hungry or just bored? Yeah? I stole from me.

Speaker 1 (20:05):
Every time I go to the pantry, I ask myself
that am I hungry or am I bored? That's a
good one, But a lot of times you'll see a
kid crying and I'm like, are you are you hey, budd,
are you scared?

Speaker 2 (20:14):
You okay? You little?

Speaker 1 (20:15):
Like, did you get shaken up? Or are you injured?
Because I think ninety nine percent at the time, when
a kid cries, they're not injured. They're just scared, like, hey,
you know, you get you got hit by a ball,
you fell and you get startled. And every coach was like,
oh you okay, little Jackson. The kid's scared, he's not hurt.
So are you scared or are you injured? It was
a weird sequence of events, school Bill making weird plays,

(20:36):
had no control. Fry squares up, school Bill hits him
in the face ninety nine point six mile an hour fastball.
As Rich said, school Ball very animated and regretful about
what happened, and he said the right things too. He
said something along the lines of you know, they lost
the game, but some things are bigger than the game.

(20:56):
And David Fry's health was the priority last night. And
he's okay, he's got fractures. So we're taking your phone
calls now about those scary moments where you hit somebody
in the face, or maybe you were hitting the face,
because you never forget it. That's really the thing. You
never forget it. Let's go a trip in Vegas.

Speaker 7 (21:13):
What's up trip, Hey, good afternoon, gentlemen.

Speaker 2 (21:17):
What's up, buddy?

Speaker 7 (21:17):
You'll love this. I got plenty of fight stories from
the military, but I got one when I was a kid.
So I'm I'm playing pony League and they bring me
in from centerfield because the picture gets hurt and they're like,
you got a big arm, you can come pitch. I'm like, okay,
first kid right handed, strike out, next kids strike out,
next kids left handed. I hit him square in the helmet. Oh,

(21:40):
and I was just devastating.

Speaker 2 (21:42):
Those lefties threw you off as a kid. Yeah, that's
so funny.

Speaker 1 (21:45):
You said that because when you were a pitcher in
Little league or pony ball, you're so you got so
used to throwing the right is that when there was
a lefty.

Speaker 2 (21:52):
You like, I don't really need to do anything different,
but it feels different.

Speaker 1 (21:55):
And you know, there's a lot of kids that take
them mount and Rich I'm sure you're experiencing this now.

Speaker 2 (21:59):
Is the you know, the number one coach as you
brag about all the time.

Speaker 1 (22:03):
So many kids take them out and they're so scared
of actually hitting a kid that they don't throw the
way they're capable of, man, because they're so apprehensive. I
see the tentative hitting somebody like Dave Robert's press conference
after the game.

Speaker 2 (22:16):
Yeah, we're gonna get to that. Let me tell you.
I see the girls do that all the time.

Speaker 1 (22:19):
And my daughter softball, like they if a girl hits
a girl, she will then pitch hesitantly, and they do
this thing when a girl gets hit they all take
a knee. Is I don't know if that's a new thing,
like like everyone in the field and dug out, like
girl gets hit by a pitcher instinct like take a
knee and they like, oh, don't get up until the
girl's like I'm okay, no. You know those kids that
have a rocket arm and then all of a sudden
they're like throwing darts. They're like, eh, because they don't

(22:40):
want to they don't want to hit the kid.

Speaker 2 (22:43):
Okay, Arizona, what's up? O?

Speaker 8 (22:46):
Hey guys, what's up?

Speaker 2 (22:47):
Man?

Speaker 9 (22:48):
All right? Hey, So I'm in the nineties high school
might have heard about this rich uh soccer players are
playing soccer at lunchtime. And I'm over with the head
pain with the cool guys and the ball guy missus.
The net ball comes over, probably like forty fifty yards.
Nobody says a word to me, just watch the ball,
and I turn around smack right in the side of

(23:10):
his face. Hurt. Hurt a little bit, but it was
more embarrassed and angry. Yeah, so so, so bad for
the kid who came and got the ball because he
wasn't the one who kicked it. And I just threw
that ball double fisted right.

Speaker 8 (23:20):
In his face.

Speaker 9 (23:21):
But I may or may not have started a small
riot at the school.

Speaker 1 (23:25):
So I want you paying a great picture and remind
me of something to the embarrassment that's involved, if you're
alert and awake to tell the story, because I remember playing.
It was like a varsity high school game or whatever,
and I'm running home and it was a play at
the plate catcher has the ball. I'm going down the
slide and the catcher with all his force, tags me

(23:47):
right in the face.

Speaker 2 (23:49):
Boom.

Speaker 1 (23:49):
So I get tagged in the face. My head goes
back and I'm out. I'm out and out, and then
I got a bloody face all over the place. You know,
and you're embarrassed and you'll never forget yet there is
a level of embarrassment tagged and hit so hard in
the face.

Speaker 2 (24:03):
You know what's embarrassing. Let me take you back to
gym class. I was Sam. You ever get hit in
the face during dodgeball? Like blindside? Oh? Yeah, yeah, and.

Speaker 10 (24:11):
The ball makes a weird sound and then you're like
your face might swell up a little bit, and you're
just like, what, not a good one?

Speaker 2 (24:16):
Not a good one? All right? Let's say hi to
Mark and Bakersfield.

Speaker 11 (24:19):
Hey, Mark, Hey, thank you gentlemen. I was playing like
four nights of softball fast pitch, slow pitch. One of
the leagues were played in it was co league. So
I get up. My buddies already hit two and runs.
I have two home runs, so I'm going to try
to hit one to beat him. There's this nice girl
playing third base, got her knee pads on, got her
ponytail and her stung glasses playing right at third base.

(24:42):
So I swing as hard as I can and it
just hits her can move straight in the face.

Speaker 8 (24:48):
And I'm like, do I.

Speaker 11 (24:49):
Run to first or do I run to go to her?
And that was the last time I ever played co
ed softball?

Speaker 1 (24:56):
Then who would I mean, not to sound sexist, but
who would put the like maybe inexperienced girl in the
hot corner at coed softball? That just that just seems
like a dumb move for an evil move by whoever
put her there.

Speaker 2 (25:07):
Yeah. Oh, John's girlfriend, we hate her put her at
their base?

Speaker 1 (25:10):
Yeah, and you feel terrible, man, man, that is I
hope he rant the third base to check on her.

Speaker 2 (25:18):
Single time. Yeah, he took second. Man, he he checked
on her when he got the third.

Speaker 1 (25:23):
Yeah, but did you see that the other day? Not
to be all over the place, but the Mets are
or who are in a wild card race? Luckily the
play was called dead, but the left fielder for the
Nationals slid into the wall and injured himself on the play,
and it was like bad, like he was immediately thriving,

(25:44):
like ah Cedric Mullins of the Mets, who's been trash
for the Mets.

Speaker 2 (25:49):
Stops in between first and second, puts his hands on
his helmet, like, oh my god. The ball gets thrown
back into the infield.

Speaker 1 (25:55):
They tag him and luckily they're like, after further review,
we've we've called the play. And I'm like, yo, you
still have to play at that level, at that level, right,
so the times you're hitting the face, because you'll never
forget it.

Speaker 2 (26:08):
We got Brooklyn. Let's uh, we'll take two more. What's
ever right now?

Speaker 8 (26:12):
Boys? Hey, I got a good one. Pretty scary, but
it was pretty crazy. Foursome playing golf. We're out, we
got two carts. We're out there. One of my buddies
is up in a tea box. He's lining it up.
I'm talking to one of my other friends. The other
the third party is basically off to the side taking
some practice practice cuts or practice wings. The guy i'm

(26:32):
talking to his is back to the guy taking practice wings.
He turns around. This guy swings and he walks right
into its him right in the forehead, takes up off
his seat. I thought we killed the guy. It was
it was just generrace him up.

Speaker 1 (26:46):
That is the scariest thing when people are swinging golf
clubs or baseball bats, or other parties or pinata.

Speaker 2 (26:52):
Oh dude, you have a little kidd party.

Speaker 1 (26:54):
Even kiddy as a kid who always had pinatas at
his party. Someone was always getting hit in the face,
but it was usually whiffle bat bro it is.

Speaker 2 (27:01):
It is always a scary moment.

Speaker 10 (27:03):
Do you know how many times at the tell or
dad takes it in the nether region the kids are
lined up right there.

Speaker 2 (27:09):
Yeah, you're so right about best.

Speaker 1 (27:10):
Do you know how many times I have to say, like, boys,
bats down because these knuckleheads would walk into it. Put
on your helmet side, Kevin, wrap it up in Tennessee.
Then we'll go to dB for an update. What's up, keV?

Speaker 12 (27:21):
Hey guys, how you doing today? Well, I'll tell you
this is kind of a crazy story about ten years ago.
Good our best friend's daughter and he got married to
a guy. They met each other playing softball, and they
get married. They go away on their honeymoon. They get
back from their honeymoon, they don't even check the presence
or anything yet. They go and then he has a game.

(27:44):
He goes out. He's a pitcher, throws a pitch gets
hit with a who gets the batter, hits the ball
right in his head. Guy dies.

Speaker 2 (27:51):
Oh dude, that's horrible, terrible.

Speaker 8 (27:54):
Yeah, hor my favorite. I hate to give you a story, no, no.

Speaker 2 (27:56):
But you know what.

Speaker 1 (27:57):
It goes to show you how serious alast Night was
and how thank you he got and how we could
all take a deep breath and say, hey, man, get
get better. David fry I do have one more story,
but we got to go to Dan by DB's got
the update.

Speaker 2 (28:14):
Now you go to me.

Speaker 3 (28:15):
You couldn't tell your story and Christian, I gotta follow
a death like yes, and the guy died.

Speaker 2 (28:21):
Let's go to Dan Byer for more. It's like Casey
Casey with that dead dog dedication.

Speaker 3 (28:30):
Year as I please to me and I'll tell the story. Please,
you know what I'm gonna hold off, Dan, go ahead.

Speaker 2 (28:35):
And then everyone died. Hey Dan, what's going on? All right?

Speaker 3 (28:40):
David Fry out six to eight weeks multiple facial fractures
some minimally displaced, did have nasal fractures as well, but
has been discharge from the hospital and the team says
is home resting comfortably, but yes, scary situation with David
Fry who won't play again this season.

Speaker 2 (29:02):
It's time for our Tirack play of the day. I'm
going to debate this.

Speaker 1 (29:06):
We're gonna go with Scooball and the Tigers caught off
guard by the Guardians.

Speaker 2 (29:11):
Their final play, the final call. Take a listen.

Speaker 13 (29:14):
Cleveland will not only move into a tie for first,
but they'll own the season series and the tiebreaker.

Speaker 2 (29:20):
Here's the pitch swung online the third type by Radiers
Bog game.

Speaker 1 (29:26):
The Guardians take over the Central Division lead, defeat the
Detroit Tigers five to two.

Speaker 2 (29:33):
All right, that is pretty cool.

Speaker 1 (29:35):
Guardians taken over when at one point of the season
the Tigers had a fifteen and a half game lead.

Speaker 2 (29:39):
So I just wanted to.

Speaker 6 (29:40):
Give them love because I knew we would cover the
Mets and the Yankees and ringing.

Speaker 2 (29:44):
That is that is tu enough, that is true.

Speaker 1 (29:46):
That's courtesy of Cleveland Clinic Guardians Radio Network, and that's
our tire IRAQ play of the Day. We will talk
a little more Wildcard and playoff baseball, where we got
five games left, which is giving me anxiety to the
level like yesterday Mets are losing six to one. I'm
at my kids baseball practice, I put down my phone,
I pick it up. Nimmo's hitting a home run to

(30:08):
tie it a wild day your Dodgers, Danny g I
want to talk about this later. They couldn't do me
any favors. What is Dave robertson your bullpen doing? Beat
the damn d Backs.

Speaker 6 (30:17):
They've been doing what they've been doing all season, where
it's it's the reverse of last season. Last season, the
bullpen basically won that World Series. This year they have
starting pitching and no bullpen show.

Speaker 1 (30:27):
Hey, throw a gem and I'm like, oh, four nothing,
Dodgers are gonna win perfect And I'm like, no, not
so fast.

Speaker 6 (30:32):
We're gonna have to have back to back starters go
in these games because as soon as the Dodgers go
to the pen, the other teams licking their chops.

Speaker 1 (30:39):
So that went down. We'll talk a little Yankees clenching.
But you said you had your final hitting the face story.

Speaker 2 (30:45):
One last story.

Speaker 1 (30:45):
It's worth telling you know this is in honor of
David Frye's speedy recovery. He's okay, yeah, I'm talking about
that time with Ed girl a motor boat at do
in Vegas. Right, No, you hit the face out. It's
a great story. Yeah, no, this is a terrible story,
but with a happy ending. No, not that. So I
graduated with this kid. I'll get him a shout out.

Speaker 5 (31:06):
E J.

Speaker 1 (31:06):
Collins, Eddie Collins was drafted by the Brewers, right, and
he was at my house kid through heat dude nineties.
We're in high school, so he's like sixteen, seventeen years old.
We're on our front lawn, so that's all part of
the story. On the front lawn and we're just practicing
throwing heaters and about the curb ball. One of my

(31:28):
buddies squatting right in front of a little fence, like
I a little wooden fence in the front yard that
separates the front yard to the backyard. So you got
one friend just squatting in front of the fence.

Speaker 2 (31:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (31:38):
And then me and my buddy Eddie were just throwing heaters, right,
just some practice.

Speaker 2 (31:41):
Who'd you get? What sucker did you get to catch
for you guys? Yeah, just one of our buddies. Right.

Speaker 1 (31:47):
EJ gets in full wind up again, is a big kid,
high school six' three. Heat, yeah, cheese full wind, up
throws one and he goes sizzling over the little, fence
and all of a, sudden here, pop AND i see
the ball like going a different, direction and we look

(32:10):
over the fence and my little sister is completely knocked. Out,
joking my little, Sister. Dawn, dude we's never been the. Same,
yeah we thought we killed, her. Dude and then, immediately.

Speaker 2 (32:22):
This is why it's so.

Speaker 1 (32:23):
Scary immediately she was like five maybe immediately had like
a cartoon. Boo she had a big lump in her.
Head you saw the veins in her, head, like oh my.
God and then you had to go get my. Parents
you know how frightening that, was, dude. Horrible it turns
Out dawn's a great. Person she has kids and she's doing.
Well but, man getting him in the. Face the point

(32:45):
is she she still has a huge lump on her
she still got this Weird frankenstein. Scarnerhead but the point
is you never ever forget. It and you, know she's
allowed to tell the. Story but, man that was, scary,
Dude david last. Night thank, goodness he's all. Good and
you know what, baseball we been saying it all, year it's.

(33:06):
Popping and right now you have two teams that are
one game behind The mets in the wildcard, race and
both of those teams own the tiebreaker over The. Mets
so WHEN i tell you The mets are clinging to
a one game, lead it's not, like, oh if they
tie it, up who has the? Tiebreaker, no, no there
is zero margin of error for The. Mets and, Today

(33:29):
danny g All i'm rooting for is Your dodgers to
beat The. Dbacks and The reds have to Face Paul schemes,
today so and The mets are In, Wrigley so THAT
Nl wildcard is getting freaking. Awesome The yankees have struggled all,
year ups and. Downs it's been a crazy roller coaster

(33:50):
of a season like None i've ever really seen, before
not to this. Degree so when The yankees clinched last
night on a walk, off keep in mind and he
walk off victory, celebrated but it was a walk off.
Clincher The yankee. Celebrated caballero was jumping up and, down

(34:13):
he tore his jersey. Off they're popping, champagne they're doing
their postgame. Interviews everyone's pumped about it by the way
they fired. Up but the criticism, WAS, yeo why are you? Celebrating, no, no,
NO i have thoughts on this major. CRITICISM i just
want to go to that walk off for a. Second
there's a reason why The Chicago White sox have lost
one hundred plus, games, Now, Michael, yeah for efforts Like Michael,

(34:36):
taylor the center. Fielder you know. This you learn this
In little, league you learn this in high, school any.
Level if the ball, drops the games Over yankees. Win
he fields it on a, Bounce, like where is the
judge in that? Moment where does the?

Speaker 2 (34:53):
Dive where's the? Effort?

Speaker 1 (34:55):
Dude you lay out A savannah banana could have caught.
That you could have caught. That AND i see them
because they're always laying. Out they could have caught that
in their back. Pocket he could have easily had that
if he just did a slide. Catch he didn't even
have to. DIVE i couldn't blay it out face. FIRST
i couldn't believe my. Eyes and, again that was the
weakest Ef you're on a team that's you have what

(35:19):
fifty ish. Wins that team is, awful The White. Sox
but when the game's on the line and there's a
line drive to center, field and if it, drops man
on second, facts if it, drops the game is. Over
and you feel that on a hop instead of trying to,
slide catch or even dive.

Speaker 2 (35:36):
Layout it was.

Speaker 1 (35:37):
Embarrassing it's like it really is like a reflection of
like that. Guy, yeah it should be noted that this
tailor guy zero. Effort the effort level should be noted
because if there's another team that tries to acquire him
and he's in a better situation just because your team,
stinks watched your Major it falls right in front of his,
Feet right in front of his, feet, dude and The

(35:57):
yankees reap all the. Benefits arrow gets his first walk
off hit ever in his, career and The yankees went,
ballistic and it was cool to see because it's not
the same teams from the two. Thousands it's not even
the full team from last year that lost in The World.
Series it's a different squad of. Guys it's been a
tough year AND i think you take any reason to. Celebrate,

(36:19):
look they know more than anybody that there's still a
lot of work to be. Done but you celebrate the
victories along the. Way that's what life's. About and it's
a long. SEASON i had no problem at all with
the celebrating, yesterday AND i would have no. Problem if
it was The, dodgers even though the world Their World series,
champions they've struggled your. Mets anybody at this point this

(36:40):
SEASON i would have a.

Speaker 2 (36:41):
Problem. Glad that was the major criticism from yester. Years i'm.

Speaker 1 (36:44):
Glad why are they celebrating that you're taking the, stance
Because cavino's usually the stick in the mud that'll say,
nonsense like, yo, ecklock you've been. There to, me baseball
is one hundred and sixty two. Games these guys start
hanging out pitchers and, catchers And February Super bowl. Happens
the minute The Super bowl's, over pitchers and catchers are

(37:04):
getting ready to prepare for spring. Training you're talking about
most of the, year one hundred and sixty two, games
traveling every.

Speaker 2 (37:13):
Day this isn't.

Speaker 1 (37:14):
Baseball this isn't, football where it's Every saturday Or sunday
if you're college of the. Pros this is pretty much
five days a, week six days a week rhyme or
one hundred and sixty two games an emotional roller, coaster
and each team is going to go through winning, streaks losing,
streaks division. BATTLES i can't understand anyone that thinks celebrating is,

(37:36):
bad AND i look at it this. Way i'm a
believer in celebrating anything in. Life call, me you, know
call me. Crazy i'm the guy that likes gender reveals
and parties and people have had baby showers and events
and sweet sixteens and. GRADUATION i don't like how people
make gigantic spectacles about.

Speaker 2 (37:57):
It unless you're. Starting unless you're starting a forest.

Speaker 1 (37:59):
Fire if someone decides to pop some balloons or cut
a cake and have friends and family, over we're on.

Speaker 2 (38:05):
This we're in this world. ONCE i don't.

Speaker 1 (38:08):
Know i'm about celebrating these, moments the birth of, children
celebrating birthdays and anniversaries and championships and divisions and, hey
you got a work, promotion let's go get. DRINKS i
don't know why people are anti. Celebration it boggles my.
Mind so you rather just be a lame o that
just sits. There so what do you want The yankees to?
Do AND i don't like The yankees because every day they,

(38:29):
win it means, like oh com, me no more, money
right you showays Win?

Speaker 2 (38:35):
Yankees that sounds. FAKE i didn't know how long that.
Was sorry to.

Speaker 1 (38:40):
ME i don't want to see The yankees, win but
you know you win in a walk, off and that
means you clinch a, division not a division even a playoff.

Speaker 2 (38:48):
Spots to, me that's still cool enough for some one
game behind The Blue. Jays so it was a cool.

Speaker 1 (38:55):
Moment but the two, stories like the major headlines after
that particular game As Michael taylor not putting effort in
to catch that ball for The, socks and why.

Speaker 2 (39:05):
Are The yankees? Celebrate?

Speaker 1 (39:06):
Dude even our Buddy Drew mack From nashville hit us
up and he, Says i'm not a, traditionalist SO i
like bat flips and. Celebration just think making the playoffs is.
WEAK i, mean you have a good team and a rich,
tradition but those guys are, Young ben Or wilson never
made the playoffs. Exactly you, know you act like you've been.
There hobbietro is in a playoff. Player he, says come,

(39:29):
ON i feel like twenty seven rings making the playoffs
and you're celebrating like. That, well everybody knows the end.
GOAL i just think this this season, Especially i'll never
all teams deserve to. CELEBRATE i will never get on a,
player a team or anyone for. Celebrating i'll never get
on someone for having a birthday, party an anniversary, party

(39:50):
a gender. Reveal, Listen i'm all for high school. Reunions
when people, say you, know people love to say which?

Speaker 10 (39:58):
Mine last weekend twentieth, DUDE i was saying THAT i was,
gone sorry two.

Speaker 1 (40:02):
Weekends you, know you know what people love to. SAY i, was, sam,
OH i thought you got a hair. Transplant, yes that's
part of the trip to your hair looks. Great forget,
turkey go To. Iowa, yeah, man he came back with
a pump a.

Speaker 2 (40:12):
Door thank.

Speaker 1 (40:13):
YOU i thought it was my gundy in. HERE i
hate when people say high school, reunion no. THANKS i
see what they're doing On. Facebook IF i wanted to
hang out with, Them i'd hang out with. THEM i don't,
know is there something like?

Speaker 2 (40:27):
That is what everybody? Says you that much of a
stick in the, mud that, LIKE i don't? Know then
what WOULD i love?

Speaker 5 (40:32):
Him?

Speaker 2 (40:32):
Now so go into a bunch Of. Facebook, YEAH i
had a good. TIME i.

Speaker 1 (40:35):
ENJOYED i, Agree, SAM i loved my my high school.
Reunion because what you bump into some old familiar faces
something you don't care. About my point Is i'm gonna
say old familiar. Faces some of them look like. YEAH
i was saying with people like Oh, winter did anyone
be LIKE i Was sam From Fox Sports.

Speaker 2 (40:55):
RADIO a lot of people didn't know WHAT i was
doing for a. Living so that's. FINE i think you're
an only fans. Model, yes oh, Yeah i'm IN. La
i'm not doing only, fans, yes but. NO I i just.

Speaker 1 (41:10):
Think it's weird how people would be anti, celebration like,
like what the alternative? Is?

Speaker 2 (41:14):
What, hey good, job?

Speaker 1 (41:15):
Bude, yeah, NO i think you you take that feeling
and you run with. It, man you don't want to.
Lose you enjoy, it and it keeps you fired up
for the next round of. Playoffs so The yankees got
the clincher chevelle style the clincher chevelle style last, night
AND i don't have a problem with, it BUT i
did see a lot of. Criticism it actually got me

(41:35):
pumped up as a. FAN i was, like all rights
as a fan, postseason let's.

Speaker 2 (41:39):
GO i love seeing the TEAM i root for, celebrate
so same if they. Don't if they, don't every years
a different.

Speaker 1 (41:47):
Team and you, know if you don't think riche wants
to see His mets celebrate who cares is the first
round yesterday When Francisco albers making, It When Francisco alvarez
hit that go ahead home run the game, winner when
he pauses in between home played in first, base looks
at his teammates and, flexes how are you not going
to get fired? Up i'm with, you, Man i'm with

(42:07):
you on. That so your thoughts at eighty, seven seven
ninety nine on fire and The dodger how we feel
when The dodges bullpen blows yet another game and the
D becks round third and score and they're in the
wild card. Race if you're An arizona, fan how are
you not excited in that? Moment and by the, Way,
danny your team better win the next two. Nights can
we make a deal here or?

Speaker 9 (42:23):
What?

Speaker 1 (42:23):
YEH i hope they're not too scared for the. Moment
we got to talk about that.

Speaker 6 (42:26):
LATER i know how we started the show talking about
being hit in the. FACE i don't want him to be,
injured but can somebody like Smack Dave roberts.

Speaker 2 (42:34):
A little, bit maybe some cold water wake them?

Speaker 1 (42:36):
UP i saw one of my buddies posted On. Instagram
you know How ai is. Ridiculous, now how like you
can make. Anything someone did AN ai of After Tanner
scott blew that, Save otani walks out of the dug
out and Punches Tanner scott in the. FACE i saw
a clock With Jake paul And Tank davis making.

Speaker 2 (42:54):
OUT i thought it was.

Speaker 6 (42:55):
Real do you know how many excellent starts By otani
now have been?

Speaker 2 (42:59):
Wasted? Season Tanner scott Has Paul skein's. Treatment he's getting
The jacob The ground treatment On.

Speaker 6 (43:05):
SPECTRUM i saw the stat on THE tv screen after
the blown, save AND i am, like that can't be.
RIGHT i looked it. Up i'm, like that's somebody messed
up back in the truck in the you, know.

Speaker 2 (43:17):
The edit, bay the graphics.

Speaker 14 (43:18):
Guy.

Speaker 6 (43:19):
Yeah how many blown saves do you guys Think Tanner,
scott by the, way who was great with The padres last,
year how many blown saves does he have with The
dodgers this?

Speaker 2 (43:27):
Season more than? Five five to?

Speaker 6 (43:29):
Ten ten that was. Blown that's that's an additional ten.
Wins The dodgers have had a decent.

Speaker 1 (43:36):
Season that's a different that's the difference between eighty eight
and ninety eight.

Speaker 2 (43:40):
Wins, yeah and by the, way that is.

Speaker 1 (43:41):
The even if it's half of, Those like you see
a guy a good, closer you'll see, like, oh he's
thirty one out of thirty five on, Saves like you,
know everyone's gonna blow a save here and, there but
ten is.

Speaker 6 (43:51):
Substantial but to have no backup, plan like nobody was
warming up in the. Pen it was, WILD i, mean
and The dbacks suddenly get three runs off of Rookie Jack.
Dryer kershaw was wandering around near the pen and he
was Warming they said he was warming up a little.
Bit So dodger fans were, like, Oh roberts is gonna Bring,

(44:12):
kershaw and that's a great. Idea he'll close this out
four to, three get the W, nope Brings Tanner scott.
In nobody's even warming, up gets in a Jam runners on.
Base still nobody warming, up And Dave roberts after the game,
Said i'm gonna stick with the guys who are timid
right now BECAUSE i feel like they need to build some. Confidence,

(44:32):
bro there's only a handful of games left in the.
Season you should have figured this out way.

Speaker 1 (44:37):
Sooner David roberts says a scared mindset is a significant
factor in the team's recent. Struggles that's, again that's a
whole other. Discussion that's. Nuts you're, scared you're playing. BASEBALL
i understand the moment's, Big rocky fighting. Drago i'm Just
i'm just thinking it's not a good way to feel

(44:57):
at this stage of the.

Speaker 2 (44:58):
GAME i liked him in that.

Speaker 1 (44:59):
Spot you want those kids and those guys that want
the ball and want that, Moment AND i guess not
everybody's cut out for. That BUT i think a lot
of times that you, know we talked about how. Baseball
we just talked about a long, season one hundred and
sixty two. Games there are times where that losing or
winning vibe is. Contagious kavin always talks about, it, like
if you get a couple of guys in the bullpen,

(45:20):
timid if you're playing Tight danny G i can feel
like that could spread throughout the.

Speaker 2 (45:24):
Bullpen is there a worst feeling as a baseball?

Speaker 6 (45:27):
Fan then your starter throwing an absolute, gem and then
all of it is for nothing because your bullpen vomits
all over the.

Speaker 1 (45:36):
Mat you know, what as in a, minute we're gonna
Play mike's words of, Wisdom but let me pose another.
Question we'll take your feedback on the other, Side, okay
on the other side of The Mike's swords Of. Wisdom
what is the worst feeling as a sports? Fan Like danny,
said your ace throws, six, seven, six because it's it's
usually five or, six, right, yeah, man.

Speaker 2 (45:53):
Hog yesterday he threw, six no.

Speaker 1 (45:55):
Runs so usually it's like starter goes five or and
through eighty pitches and you're, like why.

Speaker 2 (46:01):
They take him? Out he only has eighty two.

Speaker 1 (46:03):
Pitches your team blows the, game or you have the
lead in a football game and for some, reason out of,
nowhere your coach decides to just run it three times
and punt the ball right back to the other. Team, yeah, like,
oh like you've abandoned the game, Plan like you've effectively
spread the ball out the whole. Game and then you just,

(46:23):
say let's run up the gut three, times all, right
third and, six punt.

Speaker 2 (46:27):
It you're, like did the whole?

Speaker 4 (46:28):
Game what are we?

Speaker 6 (46:28):
Doing it's like a Del aya fight back in the,
day where he would run around the ring in the
last couple of rounds after dominating the, fight and then
he was just trying, to you, know eke out the
victory at the very.

Speaker 2 (46:41):
End so your. Thoughts what is the worst?

Speaker 1 (46:43):
Feeling is it your manager making one of these bonehead
bulk fens. Decisions we'll get to, that but right, now
we do this Every. Wednesday he runs this.

Speaker 2 (46:50):
Place he.

Speaker 1 (46:51):
Doesn't he brings us wisdom and camaraderie around this, Joint,
mike and here's his words of.

Speaker 4 (46:58):
Wisdom it's time for the guy that runs this.

Speaker 3 (47:02):
Place just for, clarification, Guys Big mike does not run this.

Speaker 2 (47:06):
Place he is not in charge of.

Speaker 3 (47:07):
Everything he has no power over really anybody. Here he
does not run this.

Speaker 4 (47:12):
Place It's Big mike's words of wisdom on A.

Speaker 5 (47:15):
Wednesday we do not do unto others as you would
have done to. You instead treat others how they wish
to be. Treated your opinion should be. Irrelevant that's worth.

Speaker 1 (47:36):
Now that's very Wordy mike's wordy words. Wisdom wordy words
of wisdom From. Mike can always run it back one more. Time,
YEAH i think we.

Speaker 2 (47:43):
Should run back one more. Time do not well through.
OTHERS i can't Even i've already lost it. All, right
here we.

Speaker 5 (47:49):
Go do not do unto others as you would have
done to. You instead treat others how they.

Speaker 2 (47:59):
Would to be.

Speaker 15 (48:00):
Treated your opinion should be. Irrelevant, yeah you, COULD i
feel wiser. Here you could repeat that jibber jabber word for.
Word you win if you don't reach ner Football like.

Speaker 2 (48:15):
The winner should get two nerd.

Speaker 1 (48:16):
Footballs all, Right So mike's Original wednesday words of wisdom
give us a call now for a prize at eight
seven seven ninety, nine M fox if you could repeat?
It and then to back up What danny g was talking,
about like the frustration that you feel with your, Team
this is kind of. WILD i know it's a different
breed of young, man But i've never heard this before.

Speaker 2 (48:41):
Growing. Up when it came to the players we grew up.
Watching mm.

Speaker 1 (48:46):
Hmm Dave roberts says that some of the players are
too scared for the. Moment, again the scared mindset is
a significant factor in the recent struggles for The. Dodgers
says he has timid relievers and that's why this is going.

Speaker 2 (49:03):
On by the, way it's.

Speaker 1 (49:04):
A weird public admission to make BECAUSE i think it's,
JUST i don't, know it's not a good. LOOK i
think that's something you keep to. Yourself MAYBE i don't,
know it's kind of old, school but to back up
what you, Said danny G rich was trying to figure
out WHY pca of The cubs bat's. Eighth, yeah there's a.
There you, know he was An All. Star he's had
a terrible second. Half hopefully he continues that against The mets.

(49:26):
Tonight BUT, PCA i think he had over twenty home
runs in the first. Half he's had four in the second,
half so he's. Struggling but he's still An All. Star
he's still a confident, player a great young player for The.
Cubbies AND i kept seeing, like why is why Is
Crow armstrong batting eighth or ninth or bat at the
bottom of the. Lineup, now one theory is, that, well you,

(49:49):
know sometimes you like to spread out the meat in
the lineup and you sort of set the stage for
the top of the.

Speaker 2 (49:53):
Lineup, again, YES i said, meat you said spread out the.
Meat but there's also.

Speaker 1 (49:59):
Another layer that he's a young player and the pressure
of being in the meat of the lineup was getting to,
Him like he doesn't Like batton second or third or.
Anything so to give the, guy this young, kid less,
pressure they throw him at the bottom of the lineup
to take, that to take that excess baggage off of,

(50:21):
him And i'm, like, yeah but you're like a you're
An all star kid though you bet an EIGHTH i get.
It you want your best players to feel, comfortable but
you also want your best players to step up in
those big. Moments THAT'S i don't. Know that just rang
weird to, me But i'm saying it's a different breed of.

Speaker 2 (50:39):
PLAYER i, GUESS i don't. Know they're letting their nerves
get to him a little.

Speaker 6 (50:42):
Bit, Yeah friedman was trying to save a little bit
of money at the trade, deadline and that rubbed Some
dodger fans the wrong way because we knew we didn't
have a closer fit for Another World. Series and so
For Dave roberts to, say, well some of my setup
guy and my two, closers they just need to gain some.

(51:02):
Confidence so that's WHY i wasn't warming anybody, up BECAUSE
i want him to be confident that it. Is but
once he's in trouble and there's no outs and there's
two runners on and you know you're about to blow another,
game that's when you walk out to the mound and
you get somebody warming up and you're, Like, okay, No
we're not going to blow this. Game you can't just

(51:23):
keep making the same mistake.

Speaker 2 (51:24):
Over blow, It, dave don't blow, It. Dave it doesn't add.
Up it doesn't make any.

Speaker 6 (51:28):
Sense so you Handle otani with kid gloves and you're
so worried about how many innings he's, playing but then
you Let scott do that and you have no backup.

Speaker 2 (51:37):
Plan it doesn't even make. SENSE i think it's just.

Speaker 1 (51:39):
Shocking, look they're young, men they're, human BUT i don't
think we're used to hearing that on this level of. Professionalism,
yeah THE pca one's interesting Because i'm reading more and
a social and performance pressure and. Anxiety a lot of young,
players in Particular Crow armstrong has had to make as

(52:00):
in The Major, league such as altering where he's in the,
box seeing different, pitches and they're saying putting him at
the bottom of the, lineup even though he might be
one of their best potential. Hitters it relieves some of
that anxiety for a young, player so they're saying strategy
but also. Anxiety so when you're dealing with these timid,
players anxious, players it all ties back to what we

(52:22):
were talking about. Before different breed of young. Men they're
really young. Men of course they're going to. Celebrate they're
so pumped that they made it this. Far it's fun
to see them enjoy the. Moment so it all sort
of ties together THAT lgx boom so powerful it'll Blow

(52:47):
riches to. Payoff oh be, Careful. Rich oh, well with.

Speaker 2 (52:50):
That, said let's do It Midweek major, Time.

Speaker 13 (52:54):
Covino And rich gets you over the middle of the
week when Mid Week MAJOR i love that we throw
sports and pop culture headlines and topics at the fellas

unlimited Himself Danger. Russ wilson spoke out today about his recent,
benching making may of course we BACKUP. Qb Jackson dart
to step in my. Starter but despite losing his starting, Gig.

Speaker 2 (54:01):
Russ is not.

Speaker 14 (54:02):
Phased so during today's press, conference he, SAID i, QUOTE
i think for me, Personally i'm not. Done i've got
so much belief in myself AND i know What i'm capable.
OF i KNOW i can help this football team if
it comes. Up wilson through for four and fifty passing
yards three touchdowns in a week, two but understands that
THE nfl is a. Business he, said, quote you can

(54:23):
control your. Attitude you can control your, gratitude and those
two things are important BECAUSE i love the game and respect.
It dart also spoke about at the press, Conference dart
saying he knows he's got to go all out in
his debut midweek or.

Speaker 1 (54:37):
Major you, Know dart's got to. Start but you, Know
russ has a Super. Bowl he is a you, know
Borderline hall of. Famer and WHAT i love About Russell
wilson is that you can make fun of.

Speaker 2 (54:48):
Him we all.

Speaker 1 (54:48):
Can i've done. It you, know dangerous mister. Unlimited he's.

Speaker 2 (54:51):
Corny at.

Speaker 1 (54:52):
Times but you know, what on the day he gets,
benched you know, what he spent the day doing visiting
children At Mount Sinai hospital with a, man, guys sitting sick,
kids being a great member of.

Speaker 2 (55:02):
Society The giants stink move on To.

Speaker 1 (55:05):
DART i think this Is major because he's got a
great attitude and you know, what he's made tens of
millions of. Dollars who, Cares He'll he'll get a chance
somewhere somewhere. Again BUT i don't.

Speaker 2 (55:15):
KNOW i Like.

Speaker 1 (55:16):
RUSS i think he's a good. Dude That giants do
need to make a. Move THOUGH i actually agree with
Everything rich. Said Shocker Major.

Speaker 2 (55:26):
MAJOR i think he's handling it.

Speaker 1 (55:27):
Well he says all the right, things he has a
great outlook on. It he's understanding that it is just
a business. MOVE i think at this point they got
to put him in. There Dave all has nothing else to.
Do plus they can possibly save the. Season why. Not
they even got young Ho ku on their practice, squad
so they're trying.

Speaker 2 (55:44):
To make so much. More AND.

Speaker 1 (55:48):
I Think, Major BUT i also think that he can't
beat father. TIME i think he did lose a. Step
he may have a lot to, give but he's not
the same.

Speaker 2 (56:00):
Player.

Speaker 1 (56:00):
NO i, mean, listen you, KNOW i think his mind
is saying, yes but his body's.

Speaker 2 (56:05):
Like, eh his body's telling me. No it's Like canelo And.

Speaker 1 (56:10):
Crawford it's like, Yo canelo thought he had this, fight
he could do.

Speaker 2 (56:14):
It his head was, there but his body didn't react
the same. Way all, right what, Else? Boddy all? Right,
rich listen to this.

Speaker 14 (56:20):
One mets Broadcaster Gary, cohen your favorite whom you, love
catching some heat for comments he made during last Night's
mets At cubs. Game so while calling the, game he
mentioned how it was odd That Cub Matt shaw decided
to Skip sunday's game against The reds to attend The
Charlie kirk memorial. Service he, said Quote shaw Had cubs
world in a tizzy when he was not there for

(56:41):
The cubs game with The, reds and his lack of
presence was. Felt he went on to, SAY i don't
want to talk about any of the politics of, it
but leading your team in the middle of a race
for any reason other than a family emergency really strikes
me as. Weird So shaw later went on to explain
his decision to leave the game saying he had a
close personal relationship with that they would he was a
Big cups, fan that they would text each other after every.

(57:04):
Game and you know that he explained it to his
team why he. Left so whatever backlash comes of, it
he's okay. With he feels strongly about his faith and
what was meant to be. Happened So midweek Or, MAJOR.

Speaker 2 (57:16):
I, mean you said an all, spot BUT i mean
to get, there you?

Speaker 1 (57:19):
Go what's said? Everybody? Major, Listen Gary cohen's the best
played by play guy in. Baseball that's that's a common.
Sentiment it's a common sentiment in the. Industry now he
he missed steffed last. Night this is a terrible statement
in the middle of a. Race If Matt shaw was
personal friends With Charlie kirk AND i read That Erica,

(57:41):
kirk his, widow reached out to Invite shaw to the,
Service you're not going to go to a friend's funeral?
Service are you kidding? Me like someone point out That
Gary cohens skipped the game last year when his dog.
DIED i, mean and it's not just a funeral, service
it was an. Assassinate it's like a horrific. Story, yes
so heartbreaking heartbreaking to people that didn't even know him

(58:03):
on the, personal heartbreaking to people that disagreed with everything
he said. Politically but SO i think to go to
someone's funeral service or, ANYTHING i. Think so you're telling
me if a baseball player's best friend dies that's supposed
to play a game against The reds on A tuesday,
night come, on use your, Head Gary, cohen as it's
made your bed Move Gary. Cohen, yes As schoolbol said

(58:25):
last night after Hitting David fry in the, face some
things are bigger than the.

Speaker 2 (58:31):
Game AND.

Speaker 1 (58:33):
I think in this particular, case it was such a
crazy story and they were close.

Speaker 2 (58:38):
Friends.

Speaker 1 (58:38):
YEAH i think it was a tough decision to, make
BUT i think he made the right.

Speaker 2 (58:42):
One it's a major. Story. Yeah wrapping it up With.

Speaker 14 (58:45):
Tommy Tommy brady officially firing back at critics who were
questioning his conflict of, interests of, course as A fox
broadcaster and minority owner of The.

Speaker 2 (58:53):
Raiders so he released a newsletter.

Speaker 14 (58:56):
Today tommy's newsletter say that his duty to utilize his
knowledge of. Sport anyone who doesn't see it is paranoid and.
Distrustful so he spoke at length about the importance of
doing one's, job and that for him means growing the
game of football by sharing his experiences On Fox broadcast
and assisting in bringing The raiders back to. Relevance he,

(59:16):
said with the success that football has given, him he
has a moral and ethical duty to the. Sport and
he said that anyone who opposes his dual jobs is
blinded by distrust and it's hard to see beyond their self.
Interest he actually went on to really lean into his.
Head it was like a crazy.

Speaker 2 (59:33):
Read this is.

Speaker 1 (59:35):
Major i'm team Tom brady on. THIS i think we
all love to just lead with skepticism and. CYNICISM i
Think Tom brady's great for the. Game he's a legend of. Fact,
YESTERDAY i was bummed that we didn't bring up it
was the anniversary yesterday and when he took over For
Drew brees and the rest is. History so yesterday was
the twenty fourth anniversary of he took LET i Say
Breez Drew. Bloodsoell when he took over For, bloodsoe that

(59:56):
was twenty four years ago. Yesterday he's been great for the,
game biggest, winner and Everything Tom brady, DOES i think it.

Speaker 2 (01:00:02):
Is great for. Football So i'm Team brady on this.

Speaker 1 (01:00:05):
One major breeze is in the news, though gonna be
commentating on first. Take oh, nice but it is major
because It's Tom. Brady but it doesn't come from. Nowhere
it's like that guy who that married guy that got
caught cheating and it sort of lives with him for
the rest of his. Life tommy's been in some controversy,
before so it's not, like you, know people don't have

(01:00:27):
any reason to not trust. Them but it's good for the.
Game i'm Team tommy on. THIS i agree With. Rich,
well let's let's say thank you To. Spot come be
a part of the legacy that never. Stops be there
when history is. Made The Harlem globetrotter is one hundred year.

Vest this season we were saying that this is a
great thing to think.

Speaker 1 (01:01:33):
About i'm Talking marty McFly, though because they're back and
big and. Hard you know how light, Preserver, yeah you know.
How the old uniform for women would be leggings and
ugs around this time of. Season for men more than,
ever this, season more than, ever it's that, vest, bro
that life preserver. Vest jackets. Came are you invest and

(01:01:56):
then they disappeared like. That let me Ask manzi who
just walked in the, room, which by the, way she's
throwing me. Off she's got A dodger shirt on In padre's, Colors,
like what do you what do you trying to do?
Here it's like A Neon.

Speaker 2 (01:02:04):
Dodgers it's Not padre. Color this is not even sort
Of padre's.

Speaker 1 (01:02:07):
Colors you're, right there's a little bit of A neon
green sea.

Speaker 2 (01:02:11):
Home but it's just neon green against. GRAY i. KNOW
i just sometimes you got to get. Something do you
like a man in a? Vest you know those puffy
vests that men wear to keep their tours so? WARM
i you know WHAT i do like a man in a.
Vest we're just saying how it's like we.

Speaker 1 (01:02:26):
Do when you think of your buddies and you think
of your, friends you immediately know is he a vest
guy or? Not like it's a weird. Thing i'm sure
you have similar things with your. Girlfriends. Totally i'm, thinking
like you name one of my. Buddies i'll tell you
if this guy owns a, vest and it's a. Weird
it's a weird choice because it's like Some griffy on The.
Reds some people would never wear a, vest and then other.
People you feel like it's if you're going down the

(01:02:47):
fall to watch, football like you, know this guy's gon
show up at the bar with a, vest thinking about
you got to be so proud of your guns or your. Sleeves,
yeah because you just need to show those. Arms, yeah
so it. Good the vest is A i don't, KNOW
i might be in vested your arms, warm but your
torso is. NOT i don't, know but as you bust
out the fall, WARDROBE i might have to invest.

Speaker 4 (01:03:07):
You would look good in the.

Speaker 2 (01:03:08):
Vest, yeah you look good in the, vests even with
the long sleeve.

Speaker 4 (01:03:11):
Under it looks.

Speaker 1 (01:03:12):
Good AND i need one now because it's extremely cold
in the.

Speaker 10 (01:03:15):
Studio, yeah ninety degrees in the insuremental will give you
a we were not in fall at.

Speaker 2 (01:03:21):
All get you a gift card for llll bean or.

Speaker 10 (01:03:22):
Something, yeah it's cold in the studio, though probably there's
all that equipment in.

Speaker 1 (01:03:26):
THERE i can't, wait SO i. Might you might see
me come in here rocket. Wah you know you can
control the, thermostat you can turn it up freezing in.

Speaker 2 (01:03:35):
HERE i try. Out he's, right maybe a little hoodie
with the.

Speaker 1 (01:03:38):
VEST i throwed a hoodie today and it's way too
hot outside for a.

Speaker 2 (01:03:41):
Hoodie BUT i feel so. Comfortable so what's your football? Question?
Man might involve The.

Speaker 1 (01:03:47):
Giants my football question is does it Involve Daniel, jones
who's added to the list of people that were written
off but now are redeeming their their. Careers, no it
was just a question selfishly about my forty nine. Ers
BUT i think we all the same. Way bet whether it's, basketball, football, baseball.
Anything there are years where your team's record isn't necessarily,
great but you still feel, like, yo they getting a raw.

Speaker 2 (01:04:11):
Deal they could compete with.

Speaker 1 (01:04:12):
Anyone and then the season is where your team's record
is good and you're, like, yeah BUT i don't really
believe it over. Inflated like to, me there have been
years with The niners are just like sneaking, by But i'm, like,
yo come.

Speaker 2 (01:04:23):
Playoff, time they could compete with. ANYONE i know.

Speaker 1 (01:04:26):
It right, NOW i feel like The niners are gonna
win This, sunday you, know Hosting. Jacksonville there'll be four to.
Oh but in my, Mind i'm like that, team that
forty Nine ers, Team Robert sala's got the defense looking.

Speaker 2 (01:04:37):
Sharp but you think a four to oh forty Nine.

Speaker 1 (01:04:39):
Ers team could still compete with The eagles Or raving
even like a one in Two ravens team or.

Speaker 2 (01:04:44):
SOMETHING i don't, KNOW i.

Speaker 1 (01:04:44):
Just you're not part of you that feels like that
could be a trap game against The Jacksonville.

Speaker 2 (01:04:49):
Jags.

Speaker 1 (01:04:49):
YEAH i guess you're, right BUT i think you gotta
win that because the forty Nine ers then play The,
rams AND i believe The. Bucks so, hey, LISTEN nfl is.
Popping we got a big game tomorrow. Night Is thursday?
Night football Starts week four and what is Your thursday night?
Game Seahawks cardinals IN Nfc west. Battle as A niners,
fan who SHOULD i root? For who do you think

(01:05:11):
is a bigger threat to The, Niners seahawks Or? Cardinals
probably The, Hawks Hawks cardinals the. More James connor AND
i don't know If Kyler murray will ever be the answer.
THERE i don't dislike. HIM i Just arizona is. NEVER
i don't. KNOW i don't think they'll be. THERE i

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

I’m Jay Shetty host of On Purpose the worlds #1 Mental Health podcast and I’m so grateful you found us. I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
